Enigmatic Confections - the Baking Show AU. Honestly, I didn't expect to enjoy this one so much, it started out as recycling a prompt to participate in my first Fictober. Also, people seem to really like it, which is nice. :)

Helen hosts a baking show. Nikola hosts a cooking show. They've hated each other since they met years ago. When their network pushes them together for a new show for the summer, they must learn to get along or suffer professional consequences. (Sactuary, Helen/Nikola, enemies-to-lovers)

The Abnormal X-File - the first multi-chapter I finished, though I don't have access to the ending right now. I adore everything about it and feel it's a very good example of my writing.

Mulder and Scully go on vacation to London in pursuit of an old story from Mulder's school days. The story leads them to a mysterious woman and the Network she runs... (Sanctuary + The X Files, Scully & Mulder friendship)

Bleeding Through the Blue - my second purely Sanctuary fic! Out of the Blue was the first episode I ever saw and I love it much. I also love Magnitt.

Helen is a painter, trying to deal with her anxiety and teetering marriage. But things are changing and she is rapidly losing sight of what is real and what isn't as she tries to hang on to her sanity. (Sanctuary, Helen/John)

Come Now, Little One... - the crossover of my two favorite shows because I heard the My Little Pony song 'Open Up Your Eyes'. Also self-indulgent in the fact that it's a dark!fic and I like those.

Sam has spent her whole life in the Sanctuary, being raised to take over by her slightly psycho mother. That life isn't the one Sam wants, but her mother has a very clear idea of what she should be. Rebelling against it for years, Sam searches for an escape from the darkening world she was raised in. (Sanctuary/Stargate SG-1, Sam and Helen mother-daughter relationship)

Bird Cage - This one is a rewrite of one of my favorite books, The Aviary, but I really enjoy how I've so far inserted Stargate and Sanctuary characters into it and mashed all three worlds together.

The rebellion against the Goa'uld in ancient Egypt failed. Since then, Earth has been under their enslavement. The Goa'uld use Earth as a pleasure planet, allowing technology progression in the interest of taking it for themselves, allowing humans some measure of power by enslaving their own people. The main commodity on Earth now is human women. Sixteen-year old Sam Carter has led a sheltered life, protected by her parents and her foster brother, Jack. But safety can only last so long. Sam falls victim to a Museum, where girls are displayed as art by day and 'entertain' men by night. Desperate for escape, Sam desperately hopes for Jack to come so they can return home to their family, while battling her mixed feelings for her new museum director. (Stargate SG-1/Sanctuary, Sam/Jack (budding), Sam/John Druitt (unrequited).)

I just realized that absolutely none of these fics are actually finished, but whatever. I love them.

i have finally found the time to watch through the entirety of a court of fey and flowers and it has left me clawing the walls

a few thoughts, here and below the cut:

aabria is honestly one of my favorite gms to watch work. like, literally watch, i am 95% podcasts for my actual play media, but the visual elements of her games (esp. her npc facial expressions & acting choices) are so compelling. every damn time wuvvy looked at rue i died.

never not gonna be impressed with how smoothly this team integrated dnd combat & magic & skill checks with the good society framework to make a compelling, weighty, primarily social game. the unique tokens! (the significance to burning them!) the many pvp insight/deception checks over sighs and glances!!

brennan being an eternal gm is a crime, hob is The Most Character

like, picture me taking that character art of hob, printing it out, folding it up, and eating it. love him.

he’s a self-loathing emotionally obtuse plothound who claims to be bad with words but gives The Most Austen-style heart-wrenchingly vulnerable speeches. who else is doing it like him.

(seriously, if you’ve got regency media recs with hob-alike MCs I Want Them)

i am imagining some bonkers child creation magic — like, cabbage patch If You Want One It Will Grow stuff, genetics and gametes need not be involved stuff — that gives hob and rue an enormous passel of kids to love on and Treat Right, including at least one Owl With Bug Wings and two or three Literal Bears.

also picturing atla level confusion when the first one of those bears comes along. “just a bear?” “not a bugbear, not an owlbear, not a bugowlbear. just a bear.” “…this kid is weird.” “yeah, but we’re gonna love them like mad anyway right?” “oh yeah, of course, i’m just saying!”

deeply shocked andhera was able to sit through that detect thoughts at the tailor shop scene without blurting out SOMETHING, given his tendencies towards blurting out everything in other moments.

but like. imagine.

hob: the k stands for knickolas!!

rue: i love him.

andhera: oh shit, for real?! you love him for real??

disastrous. andhera fails to keep his mouth shut, four wounded two dead. (rip buddy, you were a real one)

otoh. now i’m imagining a fun little trivia game at rue’s nearlywed shower with questions like “where did they meet” and “who asked whom” that give them an excuse to retell all of these cute stories about their relationship, and one question is “when did rue first realize they loved hob?”

the answer is supposed to be after they danced all night at the masquerade, because rue thinks it’s fine to lie a little for the Romance of it all, but andhera’s like “oh, i remember that! it was when hob told them what the k in k.p. stands for!”

and he’s very :D satisfied with himself for winning his team a point! not noticing rue and hob’s very complex face journeys as they silently have a Conversation about this.

most shocking moment for me, a person who saw a fair number of acofaf gifs on my dash last fall: chirp marriage & child reveal, no question. the cast around her reacting is also very good, but the twist in itself was honestly so unexpected! and it works fantastically to give the lords of the wing motivation to join the larger plot on Our Heroes’ Side, i thought that was very smartly done.

and last but not least, a fun fact!

I did not realize this until the ap episode where omar confirmed ace andhera, but my first dnd character was basically a mash-up of andhera and rue.

like. they were an ace paladin poorly faking charm and coolness, using a normative appearance (“imagine a combination of chris hemsworth and chris evans”) as a facade a scared, nonnormative creature hid behind— unfortunately my BINX-alike PC friend died early in the campaign, and the plot took priority over character exploration. but still: same hat!

Trust me, I get it, especially about the prices (I'm so bad w money orz),,,, Two of my all time favorites are free to read online, both written by actual lesbians!

🕵️‍♀️ Hard Lacquer by Amelia Allore, it's a webcomic about lesbian spies, there's some proper handsome butches, a fast read (though ongoing) and GORGEOUS colors! I'm pretty sure it's posted here, on Tapas, and on it's own website.

🌌 On a Sunbeam by Tillie Walden (or really any Tillie Walden work) - like 500 pages but completed and worth every one, it's about a girl travelling across space to find her lost love from boarding school. Set in a universe with no men and no desire to have to justify it. Walden's work is gorgeous as usual and it doesn't really have any big scifi jargon that would normally push people away from the genre. The spaceships are fish! It has a dedicated website you can read it

hi weird question maybe but do you have any recs for blogs who post sapphic or gen atla content?

hi anon!! i'm gonna be honest, most of the atla blogs i follow have since turned into a mash up of multiple different fandoms so i don't really follow many atla-specific blogs anymore (and most of the ones i followed originally were more z.ukka-centric) BUT here are some that i like

@aroacekatara has good gen content (i don't think i've had a chance to read most of her fics but they all look vv good)

@raspberry-flower has a lot of sapphic fics (not just atla, but quite a few atla ones) that i've enjoyed reading

@ash-and-starlight has some of the best mailee art i have ever seen in my entire life

also @jaanii @that-was-anticlimactic @rejectscanon and @zukoisgayforsokka have all written several very good gen and/or wlw atla fics, though their blogs aren't necessarily centered on gen / wlw atla content

you can also check out all of the stuff made for @maileeweek2022 back in may and keep an eye out for @jinzulaweek22 later this summer!! @atla-gen-week is also running again later this summer + there's a bunch of gen content on there from last year

5. Something in fiction that reads like poetry

For some reason I think about this passage from Dear Mr. Henshaw a lot

I was almost afraid to ask the next question, but I did. "Mom, do you still love Dad?"

"Please don't ask me," she said. I didn't know what to do, so I just sat there until she wiped her eyes and blew her nose and said, "Come on, Leigh, let's go out."

So we got in the car and drove to that fried chicken place and picked up a bucket of fried chicken. Then we drove down by the ocean and ate the chicken with rain sliding down the windshield and waves breaking on the rocks.

There were little cartons of mashed potatoes and gravy in the bucket of chicken, but someone had forgotten the plastic forks. We scooped up the potato with chicken bones, which made us laugh a little. Mom turned on the windshield wipers and out in the dark we could see the white of the breakers. We opened the windows so we could hear them roll in and break, over after another. "You know," said Mom, "whenever I watch the waves, I always feel that no matter how bad things seem, life will still go on." That's how I felt, too, only I wouldn't have known how to say it, so I just said, "yeah." Then we drove home.

The One Taste of Truth: Zen and The Art of Drinking Tea. No joke, this got me through one of my darkest times.

This was a hard one. I don't typically read books specifically because I miss someone (other than missing the characters in the book). I gave myself a night to sleep on the question and was still about to give up on it when I realized there is someone I miss and if I really wanted to read a book to make me think of her more it would be a Jane Austen novel, possibly Mansfield Park, because we read that to discuss over the phone during college.

For the Dancing and the Dreaming--this is a Hunter x fem!reader fic I am rather attached to the story. I worked really hard on it and I am still very happy about how it turned out. I have a thing for flashback scenes and this song is one of my absolute favorites so mixing my fandoms in a perfect mash made me happy, and I was happy to do it for my friend :)

This Bond Between Us--This is a Hunter!ForceSensative AU. It started out as a request from one of my readers and I fell in love with it. It is one of my longer fics but it was a blast to write. I hope to continue it.

Though Broken, We'll Mend Each Other--One of my Hunter's Stress Journal series. It is more of an angsty one with a happy-ish ending. Omega goes rouge after something bad happens and Hunter has to talk her down.

The Days We Can't Get Back--this is a bunch of one shots in a book form of the Batch as kids growing up with 99 as their buir.

Sniper's Code/Death's Darling Daughter--these ones are two separate stories but they coincide so I am including them both here. I really like my OCs in them..... :D

Can I cheat and add one more? I know this is a strange one, but If Only Time...I was really proud of that one. It is an AU where Tech becomes a ghost and looks out for his family. Hunter is missing his brother and though he can't see Tech, there is comfort and forgiveness there.

Love Letters Never Write Themselves  by @lalainajanes

She hears the horse first, the patter hooves on the grass. Caroline walks until she can see around the side of the house, lifting a hand to shade her eyes.

For a second, Caroline wonders if she’s hallucinating because Klaus Mikaelson, of all people, is coming her way. On horseback.

She quickly realizes that she’s firmly planted in reality - her heels are sinking into the grass, and she’s sweated off her foundation. If Klaus were a figment of her imagination, she’d appear flawless and collected to make him regret how he’d left things.

He’s wearing a white shirt, sleeves rolled up, again managing to look like he’d be right at home on the cover of a romance novel.

God, he’s the worst.

Why had no one had bothered to tell her that the gifted alchemist was Klaus? She might have had time to worm her way into another apprenticeship placement. And she definitely wouldn’t have bothered with the cloak.

He appears to notice her, moving to slow the horse. His expression doesn’t indicate recognition. Caroline’s going to chalk that up to how she’s dressed, how neatly her hair is pinned up. Klaus is used to her in her school uniform, had seen her a few times in casual clothes when they’d snuck into the woods around the school so they could talk without dozens upon dozens of prying eyes following them.

He’d even seen her best bra once, had gotten a peek of the matching lace panties before he’d abruptly rolled off of her and fled with muttered apologies.

He hadn’t bothered with another sorry when he’d left the school.

this is the first story I bookmarked on ao3 when I learned how to bookmark (yes I only learned in 2020 lmao) and it made me cry so now I love it of course

this one is like the best it's soft and perfect like mashed potatoes

this will not be the only soulmate au on this list but by God it is a really damn good soulmate au

this one is also just like the sweetest and it's really short but it makes me cry no matter how many times I read it

I also really love villain aus a lot and finished rereading this one today because I thought about it and had to reread it for the fourth time

I found this one before I learned how to bookmark stories on ao3 and loved it so much I spent ages tracking it down to reread and bookmark

This and it's companion piece Tether are just like peak musician au stories they are both SO GOOD

this one is adorable and as a bonus it has little toddler Hitoshi in it

I just reread all four of the stories in this series and they continue to be top tier like they're a different vibe than most of the rest of these but damn if I don't love it so much

I kept seeing art for this in the erasermic tag and eventually had to read it and then before it even finished I reread it twice it's really really good
