Task Force X is PERFECT for a Superman villain team to focus on.
It's basically leaning into the "immigrant" angle originally thought up for Supes to its logical extreme: going against a government that demonizes them. Especially with allusion to Isis and how prisoners are treated.
It's not just saving the world, it's saving the world from itself in a way. Saving America from it's paranoia of those outside of their borders. It feels like the whole "what if Superman went evil?" think pieces were personified by those like Amanda Waller and her organization.
It especially feels relevant with how we're not aware more than ever how people in power are actively screwing over a few to maintain the fragile house of cards that is "society" as they see it.

Can people actually take a look at the post-race interviews before calling for a driver's head on a platter? How can you expect drivers in general to 100% know who's at fault in the heat of the moment all the time? Just look at Lewis in Qatar last year (blamed George initially, but realised it was his fault after seeing the onboards), or George in Las Vegas 2023. The audience has the luxury of rewinding the clip multiple times but these drivers literally just got out of their cockpit after an adrenaline-filled race, straight to the media pen. They don't have the time to look at what happened.

Domination in Formula 1: A Blessing or A Curse?
When someone not well versed in the world of Formula 1 thinks about the sport, a few things may come to mind: Ferrari, McLaren, Red Bull, Mercedes; Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen, Michael Schumacher, Ayrton Senna. There is a definitive comparison with all of the names I have presented to you - Dominance. Every team or driver listed here has at one time in their existence or life been the leading image of the sport. But someone winning every race is boring, right?
If a team is performing the best, has the best car, the best drivers. Then you would think there would be no competition. This is not always the case. Since 1958 and the start of the Constructors championship we have seen 11 drivers take the title who were not driving for the winning constructor. This begs the question: is it the car that is dominant or the driver? I think both are true. In order to be given a place in the best teams, you need to be the best driver. Ayrton Senna was given the drive in McLaren after proving his worth in the smaller teams, first with Toleman (where he almost won the Monaco Grand Prix until it was controversially stopped early due to adverse weather), then with Lotus. Winning races in a car that should not have been winning anything proved to McLaren team boss Ron Dennis that Senna deserved a chance. Now he is considered by many to be the greatest driver who ever lived. Lewis Hamilton is another example, incidentally also with the team McLaren, though much later. Hamilton showed such promise and speed in lower categories that when given the chance to race alongside reigning 2 time champion Fernando Alonso in 2007 Lewis almost won the title; missing out by 1 point. (Lewis came second, Fernando third. Lewis beat Fernando by means of having more second places, 5 to Fernando's 4. They both won 4 Grand Prix). Almost out of spite, Lewis went on to win the 2008 Championship driving for McLaren, Ferrari won the constructor title that year.
A new fan joining the sport in 2018 seeing Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton winning endless titles may start to root for Verstappen at Red Bull, or Vettel at Ferrari. Building the foundations of your loyalty to a team or driver stems from whether they are winning or not. A driver who is always winning may quickly become the favourite of many fans. Someone who is always winning may start to become a Goliath in everyone's eyes. Then, and only then, will people start to root for the underdogs. It is worth noting that casual fans may support a driver purely based on nationality. If every race saw a different winner, leading to a champion who won marginally with 15 other drivers almost taking the title, the value of the overall championship would diminish. If every driver is constantly in the run to win every race then people would quickly start to forget who wins at all. When someone like Michael Schumacher starts winning championships one after the other with Ferrari, people start to notice. When people start to notice, they begin to become attached to the names and faces they recognise. Now you have fans who are not going to see a Formula 1 race - you have fans who are going to watch Michael Schumacher race in Formula 1. It is worth remembering, Schumacher joined Ferrari in 1996 when the team was very much underperforming. He helped rise them up to start winning in 1999 with a constructors title followed by 5 more as well as 5 consecutive driver titles - all with Schumacher's name on them. Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher are the only two people to have won 7 drivers championships each.
I feel compassion to everyone that say Max Verstappen winning nearly every race between 2022 and now (early 2024) is boring and bad for the sport. Even I have said it becomes boring. But you have to admire his dedication and clear ability. He almost never makes a mistake. You don't win 19 out of 22 races on pure luck. Max often found himself winning races in 2022 by 20+ seconds. But if you take him out of the equation his teammate Sergio Perez was not even always second place and, when he was, he was never clear of the field. I think what we currently find ourselves in is a period where a team such as Red Bull have built a car that has the capability to leave the field behind. Then they have put Verstappen behind the wheel and the two mix emphatically. If we had two drivers driving for Red Bull in 2023 who were of Perez's level, the title would have been much more up for grabs. Red Bull, Mercedes and Ferrari would have all been fighting for wins and the title. But Max drove the Red Bull that year, and the rest is history. People tend to forget history. In 1988 McLaren were so dominant that they won every single race except for the Italian Grand Prix (The First Italian Grand Prix held at Monza since the death of Enzo Ferrari the year prior. It was Almost like fate intervened to make the two McLarens retire in that race. Senna through a collision and Prost with engine failure). Senna and Prost were fierce rivals and in that year Prost won 7 races. Senna won 8 races and took the title. If, in 2023, Max had a team mate who could take the race to him, just as Prost took the race to Senna, then maybe we would not be talking about how Max winning every race is boring, rather how the two drivers at Red Bull make for an entertaining season (even if only between those 2 drivers, arguably better than 1 driver).
I think the debate over dominance being good or bad for the sport is a conversation shrouded in immediacy. One fuelled by our generation's brains that are wired for instant gratification. While it may seem bad for the sport now, for reasons stated above I believe that dominance is required in sport. It brings people together. Forms attachments between fans, drivers and teams. Forms legacy and legend. In five years time, in ten years time, in 40 years time - Max Verstappen will be remembered for his absolutely devastating dominance displayed in the years between 2022 and TBC. As of right now, he is leading the 2024 standings and it looks like, save for multiple retirements, he will go on to win this championship too.

Your Honey Under My Skin.
Max and Gary post? SHOCKER. Anyways I’m mentally ill (ANOTHER SHOCKER.)
Max stood in the dim hallway outside the abandoned classroom, his breathing shallow and erratic. The faint hum of the overhead lights buzzed in his ears, drowning out the distant echoes of students heading back to the dorms for the day. His heart pounded in his chest, each beat a reminder of the task Gary had laid before him. He wiped his sweaty palms on his jeans, feeling like a mouse trapped in a maze, with no way out except through Gary’s test.
Gary stood only a few feet away, leaning casually against a locker, his arms crossed. He radiated an unsettling calm, a quiet authority that demanded obedience. His presence was almost otherworldly, the faint flicker of the fluorescent lights casting long shadows that danced across his face. His eyes, sharp and cold, glinted with that strange, knowing smile that always sent a shiver down Max's spine. He looked like he belonged to a higher plane, something untouchable, almost celestial. Max worshiped him for that. Every movement Gary made seemed deliberate, calculated, like the motion of a king watching his subjects from a throne. It made max feel smaller than he was.
Max couldn’t shake the feeling that Gary wasn’t like other people. Other people didn’t have this magnetic pull, this power that made every word feel like gospel. Max had heard stories about gods, about ancient beings that demanded sacrifices and loyalty. To him, Gary wasn’t so different. A god walking among mortals. And gods, Max knew, required proof of faith.
“You believe in me, don’t you, Max?” Gary’s voice, low and velvety, cut through the air like a blade. He didn’t need to raise his voice—every word, every syllable, felt like scripture to Max. It was the only sound in the suffocating silence of the empty hallway. Max’s legs trembled under the weight of Gary’s gaze, but he nodded fervently, unable to meet his eyes for too long without feeling like he was staring directly into the sun.
“I do,” Max whispered, his throat dry, his voice barely more than a breath. “More than anything.” Gary smiled, but it wasn’t a kind smile. It was the smile of someone who knew their power, who held the world in their hands. “Then you’ll do as I say.”
Max swallowed hard, the lump in his throat refusing to go away. He knew what was coming. He’d heard the command before, but it had always been hypothetical, some test of loyalty that he thought Gary used to tease him, to see how far he was willing to go. But now, standing in the dim light with Gary’s eyes boring into him, Max knew this was real. This was the moment he’d been waiting for—the moment that would prove, once and for all, that he was worthy of Gary’s approval. A task that seemed so insignificant, and yet Gary persisted the blonde.
The task hung in the air between them, heavy and suffocating: slip alcohol into Mr. Hattrick’s desk. Max felt his stomach churn at the thought. Mr. Hattrick was a strict, no-nonsense math teacher who always made Max’s life miserable. Every day felt like a battle, with Mr. Hattrick constantly calling on him, criticizing his answers, making snide remarks about his work. Max could already imagine the fallout—getting caught with alcohol on school grounds would be enough to destroy Mr. Hattrick’s reputation, maybe even cost him his job. It wasn’t just a prank—it was sabotage.
More importantly, it was about proving to Gary that Max would do anything—anything for his approval.
Gary took a step closer, his presence intoxicating. “It’s easy, Max. You’re overthinking it.” His voice dripped like honey, smooth and sweet, but with an undercurrent of something darker. “All you have to do is sneak in, put the bottle in his desk, and slip out. No one will suspect a thing. And I’ll know you’re truly loyal to me.”
Max’s head swam. He felt lightheaded, dizzy. The walls seemed to close in on him, his world narrowing to the space between him and Gary. Part of him wanted to refuse, to walk away and pretend this was all just some joke Gary wanted to pull on him. After all, costing a teacher their job? Max never worked a day in his life but even he knew the weight of one keeping a career. But another part—the bigger part longed to please Gary, to bask in the warmth of his approval. Gary wasn’t just some classmate. To Max, he was more than that. He was everything. He was a god. And gods required devotion.
“I... I’ll do it,” Max breathed, though his voice was barely audible. His legs felt weak, like they might give out beneath him, but Gary’s approving nod sent a jolt of energy through him, like a surge of power.
“I knew you would.” Gary’s smile widened, and he placed a hand on Max’s shoulder, his touch sending a wave of warmth through Max’s body. His hand lingered just a moment longer than it should have, as though Gary were granting him a divine blessing. “You’re special, Max. I don’t say that to anyone. But you… you understand me.”
Max’s heart soared at the words. He’d waited so long to hear them. His doubts melted away, replaced with an overwhelming need to fulfill Gary’s command, to prove himself worthy of the role Gary had bestowed upon him. Special. That word echoed in Max’s mind, over and over, filling him with a strange, manic energy.
Without another word, Max turned and crept toward Mr. Hattrick’s classroom. Each step felt heavy, his legs trembling beneath him, but the pull of Gary’s gaze was stronger than his fear. His hand shook as he reached for the door, the weight of what he was about to do pressing down on him like a boulder. But behind him, he felt Gary’s eyes, urging him forward.
The door creaked open. The classroom was dark, silent, save for the faint light filtering in through the windows. Desks sat in perfect rows, the scent of chalk dust lingering in the air. Max’s footsteps were barely a whisper on the tile floor as he made his way to Mr. Hattrick’s desk. His pulse raced in his ears, a steady, frantic drumbeat.
Max’s hands trembled as he reached for the drawer handle, his fingers twitching with hesitation. Was this really what Gary wanted? Was this really what would prove his loyalty?
A voice from the hallway broke his thoughts. “Max.”
Gary. His tone was soft but commanding, a reminder of what was at stake. Max’s resolve hardened. He pulled the drawer open slowly, the wood groaning softly in the silent room. With a trembling hand, he reached into his backpack, pulling out the small bottle of whiskey Gary had given him earlier. It felt cold in his hand, heavier than it should have been, like it was loaded with the weight of his decision.
Max placed the bottle carefully in the drawer, the gleaming label standing out against the papers and pens inside. His heart raced faster as he closed the drawer, his hands slick with sweat. The reality of what he had done hit him like a punch to the gut, but the thought of Gary’s approval made the fear … bearable.
He hurried back to the door, every step feeling like he was one inch closer to freedom. Gary was waiting, a satisfied smile playing on his lips as Max stepped out into the hallway. The light flickered overhead, casting shadows on Gary’s face, making his expression unreadable. “See? That wasn’t so hard, was it?” A smirk playing at his teeth.
Max’s chest swelled with pride, his earlier fear vanishing in the glow of Gary’s approval. “I did it,” he murmured, a slight tremor in his voice. “For you.”
Gary nodded, his eyes softening in a way that made Max feel like he’d just received the most precious of blessings. “You’ve proven yourself today, Max. You’re one of the few who truly understands what it means to serve.”
Max felt the weight of those words settle deep inside him, like a sacred vow. He was one of the chosen. And he would do anything to keep it that way. As they walked down the hallway together, the school empty and quiet around them, Max couldn’t help but feel like he’d passed some divine test. Whatever came next, whatever Gary asked of him, he knew he would obey. Because Gary wasn’t just a friend. He was a god. And Max was his most loyal disciple.
I’m not sane.

Of course, there's no such thing as a truly quiet day at home—not living with these goobers. The loose tooth saga continued well into the evening...
"Your tooth! It's gone! Dasia lost her tooth!"
"What? Where?!"
"I don't know! You didn't feel it?"
"I was wiggling it before! I, I— Did I swallow it? OHHHMYGOD! ITHINKISWALLOWEDMYTOOOOTH!"
"That's— Oh. Um... Yeah. I'm sure you'll be alright."

this is a hyperspecific work struggle i won’t lie but. the combo of having adhd + being the only person w a cs background is so.
i keep getting like coding tasks (usually asking me to automate some analysis or another that someone’s doing by hand in excel), and then finishing them like way faster than anyone’s expecting (bc i work Fast when i like what im doing like i slide into the Zone and the rest of the world stops existing until i finish it). and then i have this awkward start-stop of it all while they figure out the next thing for me to work on (hence why i’ve been on here All Day)
