A Sabine Wren & Ezra Bridger story

Story Summary: Tucked away inside their watchtower during a snowy night on Lothal, Sabine Wren and Ezra Bridger ponder the future and their relationship.

The beverage dispenser whirred and deposited the last of its contents - sweet, sweet hot chocolate - into the mug; Ezra watched the steam waft up from the dark brown ambrosia, bringing with it the tantalizingly sweet aroma that made his mouth water.

Even with the heating unit at max, the watchtower's interior was still chilly. Outside the temperatures were approaching near freezing and bringing with it fresh concerns of an early, bitter winter with its sleet and snow. But, for now, the snow was harmless and provided an endless frosty wonderland for all the children - and not an insignificant number of adults - to enjoy. Ezra took the fresh mug of hot chocolate in one hand and grabbed another less recently filled one in his other and moved to the watchtower's balcony.

His partner, Sabine Wren, was standing there. Wrapped in a comfy gray shawl - a gift from her departed master, Ahsoka Tano - she leaned against the railing, watching the snow drift lazily down. Just beyond, lit brightly against the snowfall, was Lothal's Capital City with its gorgeous array of spires and skyscrapers. Ezra smiled wistfully, thinking of all the families living in those towers, their children's faces pressed against the glass to watch the snow come down.

He remembered with a pang of melancholy of doing just that with his own parents, Ephraim and Mira, many years ago. Waking up to see the snow, riding a sled down the hills of Lothal's fields, scampering after the loth cats to find their hidden burrows . . .

"Enjoying the view?" Sabine called to him, jolting him out of his reminiscing. He blinked, re-focusing on her.

Even after all these years, she still took his breath away with her beauty. Sabine's hair had grown a little longer, the dyed orange tips just brushing the top of her shoulders now. He knew she wouldn't grow it any longer, purely for practical reasons, but oh how he yearned to see Sabine with longer hair. Underneath the shawl, she wore casual clothes: a bright orange tunic, yellow combat pants, and maroon boots. Once upon a time, he had teased that her outfit was similar in style to the one he wore during the Rebellion and had received a sharp poke in the side for his observation (but he had noted slyly that Sabine was blushing as she did so).

Playing it cool (ha ha), he replied, "Yup."

Smooth, he thought dourly. Very cool, Ezra.

Sabine snorted and took one of the mugs to sip at. "Charming as always, Ezra."

He batted his eyes at her in, hopefully, a smoldering fashion. "Hey, it's a part of the package. Prince Charming, that's me."

She choked on the hot chocolate.

Using his sleeve to dab at her mouth, he said, "That wasn't meant to be a joke."

In between gasps of air, Sabine choked out, "You're going to kill me with any more of whatever this is you're trying to do."

Ezra sighed and took her gently by the arm. "Let's just head inside."

Once Sabine had settled down, they settled onto the couch and wrapped a large quilt - a gift from Zeb and Kallus (with an apology note from Kallus about the quilt's clumsy construction but Zeb tried really hard, and he hadn't the heart to tell him otherwise) - around themselves. Sabine was sipping at Ezra's mug of hot chocolate, since he was the reason why hers had been spilled. Normally he would have protested, especially since it was his favorite beverage, but Ezra had learned long ago that certain arguments were futile with Sabine, so he gladly acquiesced.

They sat there in silence, just listening to the watchtower's gentle mechanical hum and the occasional mewling from Murley, who had taken up the usual perch at his favorite window.

Ezra closed his eyes and took in the ambience, enjoying the simple feeling of being at home and beside the person he loved the most in this galaxy.

. . . And trying to ignore the fact his hands were shaking ever so slightly.

Sabine set down her mug on the table in front of them. He felt her turn towards him, leaning in close, her warm breath tickling his ear . . .

"Your hands are shaking, cyar'ika," she said quietly.

Ezra's eyes opened as he grimaced. "You caught that," he said glumly.

Sabine arched an eyebrow at him. "You can't hide anything from me, Ezra," she replied. "We're partners."

Ezra shrugged off his side of the quilt, glaring at his traitorous hands. "I don't know why they're doing that," he confessed. "It's been happening more and more lately."

She cocked her head at him, thinking. "Not during our missions," she said. "Only when we're home."

"Yeah," he said. "You think they'd be acting up while we're fighting off pirates or negotiating trade disputes or any number of stressful situations we've been in . . . but no. Just whenever we're home."

Sabine gently grasped his shaking hands. They stilled in her touch. "It's fear, I think," she surmised, studying his face. "And something more."

Ezra frowned at her. "What am I scared of when we're home, safe and sound, alone together?"

"Talk it out. Let your thoughts flow along with your feelings, cyar'ika."

Ezra sighed. "Okay," he replied. Closing his eyes, he reached out to the Force for calm and just . . . listened to himself, breathing in and out. He felt Sabine's presence beside him - a constant fierce light, radiating love and belief and support -

The quiet.

He opened his eyes, feeling the hairs on the back of his neck raise unsettlingly. "That's it," he murmured. "That's what it is."

Sabine looked at him, frowning. "What is it?"

"It's the quiet," Ezra said. "It's the peace. I'm not used to it."

He leaned back into the couch, processing this revelation. After a few moments he said, "Sabine, do you realize we've been fighting for most of our lives?"

Her grip on his hands tightened. Ezra looked and saw the discomfort appear on her face. "It's not something I like to dwell on," she said. "But, yeah. I know."

"I think it's come to the point where I feel more at home in a battlefield than I do at our actual home. The peace, the quiet . . . Sabine, it scares me. I'm scared it could be disrupted at a moment's notice, that it could be taken away."

Ezra stared at her, his vision going blurry. "I'm scared you could be taken away. Or me, taken from you. It all feels false, somehow. I can't truly enjoy it."

Sabine reached out and cradled his face to her chest. He heard the gentle, re-affirming beat of her heart. It calmed him a little.

"The galaxy's a scary place, Ezra. We've already lost each other once. I wish I could guarantee that it will never happen again . . . "

Ezra said bitterly, "You can't. No one can."

She turned his face upwards towards hers. "I love you, Ezra. That's all I can promise you. I'll love you until the stars go cold."

"Is it enough, Sabine? Love doesn't promise anything. It wasn't enough for Kanan and Hera. It didn't save Kanan. It killed him." The mention of his former master, Kanan Jarrus, brought a bitter taste to his mouth. He felt awful for saying it, but it held true. Kanan had loved Hera deeply - enough to give his life to ensure hers and everyone else's future on Lothal.

But he had still died. And he knew Hera still felt that loss keenly everyday.

Yes, the love had been there. But it hadn't changed anything.

Kanan still died. Hera had told him of the regrets she felt; things that should have been said but were put aside in the foolish hope that there would be another time to say them.

"You don't mean that, Ezra," said Sabine sharply. "I know you don't."

Ezra turned his face away, hiding his shame. He shrugged in response.

Sabine grabbed his face and wrenched it back towards her. Her brown eyes, normally bright and compassionate, burned with a fierce anger. "Listen to me," she said. "Do not let this fear turn you into something you're not, Ezra. You're better than this. I know you are."

Ezra let out a frustrated breath, bowing his head. "I know. I just . . . I don't know, Sabine. Will this be enough for us? With the lives we lead? I don't want there to be any regrets between us."

"You mean like Hera and Kanan?" asked Sabine. "I get what you mean."

He looked at her, feeling lost. "So what do we do?"

Sabine looked back at him. Then, with a soft touch, she placed a finger under his chin and titled his face up ever so slightly.

"If the love is not enough," she said softly, "then I will ask you for more."

Ezra stared at her, entranced. "What do you mean?"

Sabine leaned in close; the scent of her, a lilac fragrance, filling his nose, intoxicating his mind . . .

"Adore me, Ezra Bridger," she whispered. "Worship me."

His mind went blank. "I . . . how?" he heard himself ask.

With her other hand, Sabine reached behind his head, running her fingers through his hair. Silvery sensations erupted from his scalp; Ezra could hear his heart pulsing loudly within his ears. The fingers clenched, and she pulled him into a deep, searing kiss.

After what felt like an eternity, she let him up for air. Breathing heavily, she placed a hand on his chest.

"I will worship you too," she said huskily. "All of you."

She leaned forward and kissed his chest. "I worship your heart."

His forehead. "I worship your mind."

Sabine reached for his hands, still shaking but for different reasons now. She brushed her lips lightly against each of his fingers. "I worship your hands."

Ezra shivered at her touch. When she was finished, she gazed deeply into his eyes. "Your turn now," she said with an impish grin.

"Are you sure about this?" Ezra asked. "I haven't . . . I mean, this is my first time."

"Mine too," Sabine admitted.

Ezra's eyes widened. He smiled, feeling surprised - and a little gratified. "You waited for me?"

Blushing, Sabine punched him gently on the arm. "Obviously, goober."

He grinned at her. "So, who will take the lead then?"

"Me," she said bluntly. "Unless the Noti gave you directions."

Ezra laughed, feeling some of the tension slide out of him.

Sabine poked him in the chest. "Hey. Focus. Back to worshipping."

He reached out through the Force and dimmed the watchtower's lights. Sabine quirked an eyebrow at him. "Trying to set the mood?" she asked.

Ezra glanced at his hands - they were steady as a rock.

He slid his hands underneath the quilt, searching . . .

Sabine frowned at him. "What are you - oh."

Ezra gently pressed himself against her and returned her kiss with a fervent ardor that left them both breathless. Blinking at him, stunned, Sabine asked, "Where did you learn to do that?"

"Maybe the Noti did teach me some things," he teased. "Oh, I've got tricks that will blow your mind, Sabine Wren."

A sly smile grew slowly on her beautiful face. "Yeah?" she challenged. "Are you willing to show me some more of these tricks?"

"Certainly," said Ezra. "If you're not busy this evening."

She rolled her eyes. "I've got some free time, sure," she replied dryly.

"Excellent," said Ezra. And he promptly got to work, worshipping her, adoring her.

*Author's Note: One of the craziest lines I've ever heard in romantic fiction is a woman saying to her lover, "Worship me." I immediately knew it was something Sabine would say to Ezra and, well, here we are.

Maul takes statements a little too literally because Sidious had a habit of making “offhand” ones that turned out to be extremely literal. Like “it will only be a little skin off your back” would mean carving a piece of flesh off Maul’s back while being told if he moved or made a sound, they’d start again on a completely new area until he could “complete the mission”.

You don’t come out of being raised like that for as long as you can remember and be a regular person mentally. If he didn’t take it all at face value, he’d never have survived. If he didn’t follow instructions to the letter, there would be pain worse than what he was already in.

In canon, and AU’s that include this, most healthy moment he ever had was realizing that it wasn’t that he was unworthy of Sidious’ approval, but that Sidious was unworthy of his adoration. In canon, he decided to make it Sidious’ problem however he possibly could. Killing Anakin was his best shot. And he got Ahsoka instead.

Kenobi was just an outlet for all the pain and hurt and jealousy that all this breeds inside a person’s soul. Kenobi was why he failed right? Right?! He had to be. And when Maul discovered Kenobi had someone that loved him, truly loved him… they had to be dealt with. And that’s why Satine had to die. How could he let the man who’d taken everything from him have the thing that Maul so desperately CRAVES? Simply put, Maul couldn’t.

Maul’s full, ultimately, of love. But he’s been beaten and twisted and broken so many times that when it comes to showing it, it’s also broken. “I was told to do this by a person I love and if I love them, I do it to the letter, because if I don’t, I must not love them so maybe they’ll love me if I do it perfectly.” All he wants in the end, is someone to please love him back. But he doesn’t believe he deserves it. Because no one ever has. Which in turn leads to “If I don’t show how much I hurt, it isn’t real but I deserve it all anyway, so who cares?”

So when I write for a Maul who’s endured Sidious and come out the other side, whether in an AU where he gave up being a Sith or Sidious was killed, you get a very tired, very lonely man. He’s free of some things, having possibly realized that Kenobi was just a scared kid who’d watched his father-figure die and who else wouldn’t have gone after Maul after seeing that? It was all Sidious. He might meet someone he likes. A partner or perhaps a younger person he realizes he has paternal instincts toward. But then, he comes to love them. And one day they tell him to just GO AWAY. LEAVE ME ALONE. They mean it for an hour or so. A couple days max.

But Maul doesn’t understand that. It’s not their fault. And it’s not his either. So when they realize Maul’s not even in the same building, but is in fact waiting at the nearest spaceport with the cheapest shuttle across the galaxy in mind, it’s liable to make them panic. Because chances are, they don’t even remember what they said to him. If he ends up failing either in this or some other regard, brought back because of whatever reason, it frequently leads to quiet self harm because he failed and failure means punishment.

It doesn’t matter whoever he’s with all but begs him to not do this, not leave them. Maul doesn’t believe it. Even if he agrees just to get whoever it is to calm down. Because it feels so good. To be wanted. To be clung to. If it’s true, it’s going to have to hurt. Things that feel this good… they simply don’t happen to Maul. So they’re obviously lies.

This mental cycle is breakable. But it’s going to take a long time and a whole lot of effort. Which is why Maul isn’t easy to love or for just anyone to attempt to try to. He’s damaged. Horribly. And you’re going to get hurt trying to heal that. One should accept that not all of it will be healed. One should accept that he’s going to misunderstand. And if someone really does love him? They’re going to have to try anyway.

My Thoughts on Tales of the Empire; mostly Barriss (spoilers ahead!)

Ah hello all, i have had some days or so to think since watching the show and to say it has completely wiped me of my life force would be... pretty accurate tbh. BUT I HAVE FINALLY DECIDED TO POST MY THOUGHTS. will this cover my entire though process that im sTill working through? PROBABLY NOT! my thoughts are very unorganized and very unstable! ANYWAAAAYS.

Now I just gotta say overall, the show itself definitely passed the test. To be completely honest, i wasn't really paying attention to the Morgan parts as i was the Barriss parts, since it was literally what I was looking forward to this entire time.

Though I will say that the first Morgan episode was pretty neat! it was crazy seeing that perspective of the Nightsisters again and god did they make Grievous fucking terrifying. Honestly, bravo to them, it was amazing. I diiiiid end up just.. kinda spacing out the rest of it tho unfortunately cuz i just wanted to see barriss..

Visuals 10000/10. stunning, amazing, phenomenal, gahdamn. the animation was so smooth and fluid and uGHH it was amazing throughout the entire show. Acting amazing as always. BUT GOD I CANT GET OVER HOW AMAZING THE ANIMATION WAS.

NOW.

In my opinion, they got her character pretty on the dot. I am SO glad they did. I was rlly rlly worried they were totally butcher her character and make her unrecognizable to all of us but oml they didn't completely disappoint us, she has her morals, SHES STILL A HEALER! Im so happy from that.

Now although i did enjoy it, i do have my own little complaints.

Now okay one i noticed since the trailer and has REALLY been bugging me; where are her hand tattoos??? idk i guess i just wasn't expecting them to just be gone?? they couldn't have just forgotten them.. right? I dunno, but unless someone has a genuine answer for that, imma just keep drawing them on her in the future.

Alright another thing i've been seeing ppl post about is how come she looked so old at the end? I am also confused on that and i've seen multiple theories. She should only be like 30-35 max right?? Because i'm assuming the last episode took place a the time in Rebels where the inquisitors were after the force sensitive children, and Ahsoka was around that age a the time, so why is Barriss any different?

I suppose the one i think makes the most sense is the force healing? I guess it could take a toll on her over the years causing her to look more aged, but still, i'd really prefer an explanation. Also what happened to her hair coverings?? Is that not her culture?? I dunno, again, i really need an explanation. I suppose that maybe her perspective has changed since trying to come to terms with her new life, and her ditching the coverings is a way to free herself from her past? Honestly i have no clue but i just need a lot of things answered.

That's mostly my complaints on it! I just felt things weren't explained enough but to be fair, they only gave her like 3 15-ish min episodes?? I really think they got some explaining to do. Which brings me to my next points.

I'm like... 98% sure that the "old friend" is Ahsoka that she was talking about. Who else would it be?? Like cmon. And if it is Ahsoka, why did we not get to see anything about the moment of confrontation? or at least more of a mention? I guess they wouldn't rlly wanna rush that scene, and tbh, im glad they didn't. It's not some "we talk for 5 min and everything is fine" type of situation. it'll take time. time to rebuild that trust. time to discuss. YEAH. I've heard many people state how it would be more likely and realistic to see a novelization of that and i agree. I would want it to take time, showing the build of the relationship over time, going on further into the story as we watch their strong bond mend from the trauma it's faced. I'm not saying this as a crazed Barrissoka shipper, i mean it that I would genuinely want to see how that confrontation is handled, as do many others and not just as a ship!! It's been a decade! the fans wanna know!

And my last point.

I.believe.Barriss.is.alive.

The more i rewatch it, the more i believe it. the first time around i had my doubts, but something tells me they are NOT done with her character. At least before the stabbing scene anyway. There's too much stuff that's left unanswered for it to just end that way! I dunno man, but Lyn's "i'm going to get you out of here" sounded way too determined for a "im going to move your body out of here" type of thing yk? maybe she could sense she was still alive, just barely hanging in there? I don't think they are done with Barriss Offee, and I wont think so unless we see her corpse being fucking BURIED. Not to mention the UNGODLY amount of parallels of that scene along with them exiting the cave. I've already seen so many point it out. Post-Vader and Ahsoka fight on Malachor?? Back when we all thought Ahsoka may or may not be dead?? sounds familiar hello?? Also a parallel from earlier in the show itself when Barriss saves that unnamed jedi! she HEALS them when they were going to be left there. Something tells me the same fate may happen to Barriss. Idk call me crazy but i will say it again, i don't think they are done with her story.

Some miscellaneous thoughts during watching:

Off to an interestingly horrific start as Barriss is repeatedly forced to obey or die.

"They won't kill us." Why would you think that, they already killed the dumb one.

It's not exactly the reminder I hoped for, but Barriss using Force choke to end the fight was terrifying and awesome.

Oh. So the trailer shot of Barriss bowing down first was in reverse and she's actually standing up last. Here I thought she was doing something clever to keep up the illusion of loyalty, but she's not hiding her feelings at all and the inquisitors are too dumb to notice. It was just deceptive editing. Cool.

Apparently Vader just doesn't care that the girl who's partly responsible for his apprentice leaving is right in front of him. Doesn't even make a remark about how he's going to make her life hell rather than kill her. Doesn't say much at all.

Canon Barriss might not be as intelligent as I believed. My hopes were wrong, she wasn't working on an escape plan from the start, this was spur of the moment.

Looks like some healing abilities are on display. Glad she got those back. Something good.

Woohoo, she escaped, and without any indication she's the one who killed Luminara. That's a win for me.

Crap, I was wrong, they didn't officially make Barriss green, she's still yellow, it was the fucking lighting again. I got bamboozled in the same way I yell at everybody else for.

I'm not sure how I feel about that haircut.

I am sure they should've given her back her damn hood. And a few new tattoos.

How is Barriss the "wise mother"? She's in her mid-thirties, max, possibly still as young as her twenties. Mirialans live at least a couple hundred years, I get the stress took a few off, but how did it take off a century? Barriss looks older than Luminara while Lyn hasn't aged at all, and Lyn spent at least ten years undergoing dark side corruption. How is escaping the inquisitors more stressful than being one?

"To see an old friend. She'll understand what to do." Thanks for the scraps. So she and Ahsoka are friends again. With benefits? Come on, did they make up and make out or what?

AHSOKA (2023) / FAVORITE SCENE / SABINE WREN & EZRA BRIDGER IN EP 1.6 FAR, FAR AWAY

"Let's not talk about that. Not right now." Sabine climbed to the top of my favorite Star Wars characters ever since the day she was introduced nearly a decade ago. The way Natasha portrayed Sabine's serenity at seeing that Ezra was alive and safe and just as she remembered filled me with more ca tharsis than I knew I needed. Sabine had lost so much more than we knew; first Kanan, then Ezra, but then also Ursa and Alrich and Tristan and the rest of her clan. "I just wanna be happy that I found you. After all this time, can I have that?" My 2023 has been shit. My mom died after a short battle with inoperable pancreatic cancer. My uncle died, my cousin attempted suicide. My dad got diagnosed with dementia. Two of my uncles just straight up decided to never talk to any of us ever again. I've faced childhood traumas that had been buried since the Clinton administration. I've felt levels of loneliness and abandonment I didn't know were possible to feel. I've also felt some of the highest joys of my life. Being able to say goodbye to the 2/6 of the most important people to me exactly the way I wanted to. My last words to my mom being ones of forgiveness and grace for the hurt she caused. Feeling confident in my abilities to take care of my loved ones in their worst moments. My best friend maxing out her credit card just to fly across the country to watch Jedi Survivor walkthroughs with me while I signed my mom's DNR. My dog curled up on my mom's hospital bed as she lapsed into a coma, surrounded by birdsong. Watching my dad reconnect with his brother as *he* struggles with dementia too. Learning what it's like to have genuinely supportive managers at work. Knowing I am strong while still knowing I deserve not to be. The deep sleep that comes with knowing your loved one is no longer suffering. I knew 2023 would be horrible from the start, and I made it my intention to welcome every emotion that arose. I've thought about that intention every time I watch this episode (which is an ungodly amount). I know grief isn't linear. But like Sabine, I know this is a marathon, not a race. I know I have to stop and replenish myself with happiness wherever I can find it.

Mik I need your expertise. I’ve recently become consumed with the dynamic between Obi Wan and Darth Maul. Is there anything outside of the clone wars I can read or watch to get the full scope of Maul’s character? I want to know everything

to start i'll say that i’m not familiar with really any of maul's legends material. i know he's got several legends books and also some comics that center on him, but i haven't read any of those, so i'll just focus on his canon material!

after his clone wars eps (which i'm guessing maybe you've seen?? but if not, let me know and i can make a separate list of those!), i would definitely start with the star wars rebels episodes he appears in, as it’s the culmination of his (and his and obiwan's) story. i don't know if you've watched rebels before (if not, highlyyyyyyyyy highly recommend the whole show), but here are the eps he’s in:

s2 ep21 and 22 - twilight of the apprentice

s3 ep3 - the holocrons of fate

s3 ep11 - visions and voices

s3 ep20 - twin suns

(if i had to pick one for max importance to maul's story, twin suns is really THAT episode.)

and then for comics, i've read two of his runs (both standalone and completed):

Star Wars: Darth Maul (2017) - 5-issue run set before the events of phantom menace. gives you a glimpse into his apprenticeship and a look at how sidious manipulated him. i remember quite enjoying this comic and definitely liking the artwork.

Darth Maul: Son of Dathomir (2014) - based on scrapped storyboards/unused arc for the clone wars, set between his last appearance in s5, after being defeated by sidious, and his reappearance in s7. ties up some loose ends about his story during the clone war era, so definitely worth the read!

as for canon stuff, that's kind of it! i think there's some other comics that i haven't gotten to yet, but he really doesn't appear that much, surprisingly. so i've just rewatched his clone wars and rebels episodes A LOT lol (which, moment of praise for sam witwer. his voice acting for maul is so incredible and i think he's really added a lot to the character).

i love to make fun of maul bc he's so lame sometimes asdfsljklj, but truly he's such a tragic character. his story is so intertwined with the entire tragedy of the clones wars and the fall of the republic. he's got a lot of parallels to anakin, and even ahsoka, which is partly why he makes such a great foil to obiwan. and i think all the pieces really come together once you’ve seen his full story in rebels.

as a bonus, this maul video edit and this one are SO so good. (though, if you haven't seen all the rebels eps yet and don't want to be spoiled, i recommend waiting until after).

Fics I'd want to write but already have too many WIPs to even contemplate adding more to the fucking folder (posting concepts in the hopes they stop haunting me from underneath the floorboards), mostly crossovers:

Fix-it that's just Jedi reading children's books to smol Anakin. It starts when some kind and wise soul lends Obi-Wan The Snow Cat to help him and Anakin talk about grief in the wake of Qui-Gon's death. They help him explore his relationship to prophecy/destiny via The Paper Bag Princess. Room on the Broom to challenge win-lose thinking. Etc. As an adult, he asks Obi-Wan to reread The Velveteen Rabbit with him if he ever gets self-conscious after losing his arm and then we all cry.

Anakin gets therapy but it's inspired by Poe's The Premature Burial, like, they carefully and repeatedly and with plenty of emotional support etc expose him to a simulated reality in which he experiences losing everyone he loves but structured in such a way as to reduce the fear of it rather than make it more frightening, and Anakin thinks his prophecy nightmares of Obi-Wan dying are just (a very ineffective and unpleasant) part of the therapy until he complains and somebody on his care team goes "Wait, what?" which leads to Sidious getting discovered.

The Happy Man's Shirt but make it Vaderwan. Emperor Vader just wants to keep Luke from dying of melancholy, but now he's reluctantly learned a life lesson from a shirtless Obi-Wan and it's making him rethink this whole Sith Empire thing. I'm insane and there's something wrong with me.

Crossover with Were The World Mine (movie). Same age AU with Anakin as Timothy and Obi-Wan in a similar ish role to Jonathan (yes I know Obi-Wan isn't a jock but hear me out), Ahsoka as Frankie and Rex as Max, utter fucking chaos, what Timothy does with the flower is already such an Anakin move tbh

Shakespeare's Tempest but make it Vaderwan, with Vader turning away from the dark side being like Prospero breaking his staff. All about Letting Go(tm). Darth Vader redemption but with so much Force philosophy you'll want to stuff a sock in my mouth.

Crossover w/ The Last Unicorn. Sidious or Dooku as King Haggard, Anakin and Obi-Wan as Molly Grue and Schmendrick or alternatively as Amalthea & Prince Lir, Maul as the Red Bull, honestly *slaps roof* this baby can fit so many reinterpretations/explorations of all our favourite themes in it

Crossover with Celia S. Friedman's Coldfire Trilogy (When True Night Falls, Black Sun Rising, and Crown of Shadows). Listen, are you someone who ever thought it's hypocritical of Christians not to pray for/forgive/empathize with the Devil? Would you go nuts if a fantasy-brand priest homoerotically did exactly that? Okay now what if Anakin was the fantasy-brand Devil (eldritch af) and Obi-Wan risked his own beliefs/moral purity/etc for him, and they were magically connected and intextricably linked, all while the rough equivalent of the Force on their planet was trying to kill them and/or trying to communicate with them (it's complicated)?

Sailor Moon but make it obikin, because we all want to see the horror of Artoo doing Luna's job lmfao.

Crossover with Steph Swainston's Fourlands series (The Year of Our War, No Present Like Time, The Modern World etc). This one would have everything. Obikin with anidala parallels, Anakin making morally objectionable choices, horrifying combat scenes, Star Wars galactic politics meets the weirdest worldbuilding you've ever seen, blasphemy and sacrilege, needless theatrics in the midst of apocalyptic threats, wingfic tropes, idek how else to describe it but we are so missing out.

I'm sure more of these are gonna come smack me upside the head at some point but luckily for all of us I'm only haunted by things I read/watched 5+ years ago and eventually we'll run out of those.

7. What is the weakest piece of canon writing?

Didn't watch/read all of them, but from what I watched it's "Ahsoka". Its writing isn't offensive like legendary "somehow palpatine returned" but I think it's just really weak. It lacks this basic structure you can build a decent plot on, and I think because of that nothing in this show was properly explored, none of the plotlines, characters, conflicts and themes.

State of the WIP Address

hoh balls, it's already friday again

I didn't do any writing this week. None. Mostly just some reading and the last couple of days I've been dealing with the horrors the monthly migraine, so it's been a lot of laying on the couch with the TV. (Did anyone else watch Fiona and Cake??? I'm freaking out about it and loved it so so much. Also, @something-tofightfor, I've been watching The Bear and I blame you for anxiety dreams. I mean, not really, but wow, dude. And my beloved Ahsoka and the reunion and I'm just...)

ANYWAY.

I made some decisions about the Max fic and am ready to really go at it.

And I made a breakthrough on my sex-pollen trope. I'm deliberately setting a challenge for myself (y'all know how I don't really write the hard-cores) and now I know how I'm gonna work myself around it. I've actually had a pretty raunchy sex scene in mind for this character for a while now, but didn't want to write a pwp about it 'cause it isn't my brand and felt weird. But put it in a sex pollen piece? Hells yes. Am I freaked out about writing a full-out porn piece? Sure. Am I excited to try something harder but keep it in my lane? Absolutely.

But. That comes after Pats. And thankfully, that boy will put me right in the correct headspace for it. That fic is exactly what I mean when I say "something harder but in my lane."

Also, starting tomorrow, I'm doing Repostober/Winktober! So if you're new here or missed some of my Winktober fics from last year, get ready!

Fellas, I have a confession to make.

I genuiely and unironically believe that Fortnite’s premise to offer me a character for every ocassion I wish to engage in, whether gameplay-related (kinda going meta and stuff), roleplay related (like using only lightsabers with star wars characters, or webswingers with spiderman character) or social related (kratos, master chief, leon kennedy and doomguy playing barbie girl at the festival) really fills their promise of “every character from everything”.

The artstyle, while it has its shortcoming on certain crossovers (Ahsoka looks like shit and you can't change my mind) and certain OC designs (Lennox IRL set), most of the time it stands out on its own with charming visuals and creative colour palettes, like Oscar the glow in the dark tiger, while, in case of crossovers, respecting enough of the original design to still make it recognizeable as that character; and you can totally tell when a character came out of Fortnite just by how they look, the shooter gameplay is fun and compliments the art style, and is so customizable that in case you don't think that, you can make it more appealing to you.

Playing this game reminds me of being a kid and playing with Clone Troopers mixed with Max Steel figures fighting against The Covenant and WW2 Germans just because those were the first toys I grabbed from the top of my box and sure, let's roll with that, I can make up a story to make this work, it makes sense to me and that's all it matters. It’s like one big toy box game that doesn’t take itself seriously, Goku doing the "party party" emote on the hoverboard is actually funny, Omniman dancing to Titi me pregunto after getting a kill always makes me chuckle, Spidergwen holding an RPG and blasting someone into the shadow realm with it looks so disproportionate as the gun is like twice as wide as she is that you can't stop thinking "what did I just saw?".

I enjoy playing the no-build mode and I actually have a great deal of fun with friends, getting into some actually engaging gunfights. The festival mode is actually very engaging and fun, and with the new animations of the Billie Ellish season it looks much more alive, like watching a cutscene, like this mishmash of characters from so many different franchises on your screen performing XO Tour Life by Lil Uzi Vert looks like it belongs together and that you're watching something that was meant to look like that. That hearing Wasted (the Juice WRLD song) vocals with Gamnam Style lead and the basline of Party Rock all backed by the instrumental of Roses is a remix that was meant to happy and this totally wasn't the result of 4 strangers randomly pressing buttons.

Fortnite is not a bad game, y'all are just mean.
