JACK DANIELS HOLSCLAW (1918-1998)
Tuskegee Airman Jack Daniels Holsclaw was born in Spokane, Washington, on March 21, 1918. His father, Charles, was a clerk in a downtown store, and his mother, Nell, was a manager at Pacific Telephone and Telegraph. Holsclaw attended North Central High School in Spokane, where he excelled both academically and athletically. When he was 15, he became the first black person in Spokane to earn the Eagle Scout badge.
Holsclaw entered Whitworth College in 1935 but transferred to Washington State College (now Washington State University) in 1936 to play baseball. Beginning in his junior year, he played center field and helped the Cougars finish as co-champions of the Northern Division, Pacific Coast Conference. He was the second African American earn a varsity letter in baseball at the college.
In 1939, Holsclaw transferred to a chiropractic program at Western States College in Portland, Oregon, where he met his wife, Bernice Williams. They had one son, Glen. Holsclaw completed the chiropractic program in 1942 and passed the Oregon state board examination.
While there, he enrolled in a government sponsored Civilian Pilot Training Program at Multnomah College and earned his pilot’s license. On October 5, 1942, he enlisted in the army as a private and entered flight school, training at Tuskegee Army Airfield, Alabama. After completing his training, he received his wings and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant on July 28, 1943. Lieutenant Holsclaw received advanced training at Selfridge Field near Detroit, Michigan before his squadron was shipped to Italy in December 1943.
Lieutenant Holsclaw flew in the 100th Fighter Squadron, 332d Fighter Group, an all-black pursuit squadron. Holsclaw named his favorite P-51 “Bernice Baby” in honor of his wife. The 332d Fighter Group had distinctive red tails giving them the nickname “Red Tails.” The 332d Fighter Group escorted bombers on their runs over enemy territory, shielding them from German fighters. To the bomber crews that were protected by them they were the “Red Tail Angels.”
On July 18, 1944, in an aerial battle over Italy, Holsclaw shot down two German fighters. For this action he received the Distinguished Flying Cross. By December 1944, Holsclaw had completed 68 combat missions, nearing the limit of 70, when he became Assistant Operations Officer, an important administrative position that included aerial mission planning. In January 1945, Holsclaw was promoted to captain.
Captain Holsclaw returned to the United States in June 1945 to serve as assistant base operations officer at Godman Field, Fort Knox, Kentucky. He served as an Air Force ROTC instructor at Tuskegee Institute and then Tennessee State College.
From 1954 to 1957, Holsclaw was assigned to Japan, and from May 1962 to the end of 1964, he served as chief of the training division, Sixth Air Force Reserve Region at Hamilton Air Force Base, California. He directed the preparation of two textbooks to guide incoming air force personnel. Holsclaw retired from the Air Force on December 31, 1964 as a Lieutenant Colonel.
From 1965 to 1973 Holsclaw served as a manager in the Marin County Housing Authority, California. In 1973, he and Bernice returned to Washington where Holsclaw joined the staff at the People’s National Bank in Bellevue. He remained there until his second retirement in 1983. He and Bernice took up residence in Arizona, where Jack Holsclaw died on April 7, 1998, at the age of 80.
In August 2019, the Jonas Babcock Chapter, NSDAR, dedicated a historical marker in the memory of Lt. Col. Holsclaw at the site of his childhood home in Spokane.

Good day Yuurei-San!
I wanted to ask why there is Christmas in TWST if Twisted Jesus is not a thing? Probably.
Is it because of how Christmas is in Japan or is there a in lore reason?
Hello hello!! Thank you so much for this question!
I was not able to find a lore-related reason for the Christmas-style furniture and maps that have turned up in the game!
A cursory search mostly results in people wondering why there isn't a Christmas-themed event in Twst like there is for Halloween, and there was this response on Yahoo! Answers of, "Santa only brings presents to good children so they don't have Christmas in Twst" ww.
The closest the game seems to come to acknowledging Christmas might be Book 4:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The ghosts mention celebrating the new year with family, which is very Japan, but they also mention cake and gingerbread houses.
This might have been a little too on-the-nose for EN, where those foods were rewritten as pie and ham:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But Trey referencing cake has been kept, and Christmas Cake is a big part of Japan Christmas:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Theme cakes are not unusual, and there was a Twst Christmas cake offered back in 2021.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are a couple places in the game where EN added "holidays" to character dialogue, like Crewel:
Tumblr media
All he said was "when you go home," and going home is what New Year's is all about in Japan.
Tumblr media
But it's not just any home! New Years is when you go to stay at your 実家, where your parents (or their parents, or their parents' parents, etc., depending on how old you are) live.
This comes up in Grim's line where he explains to Jamil that he and the prefect don't have a 実家 to return to.
But the characters do reference unspecified "holidays" directly, even on JP!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So what is being celebrated is possibly an unspecified combination of Christmas and New Years, together!
Christmas celebrations seem to vary by country and they may be particularly different in Japan, when viewed from the perspective of the EN server's target audience.
There are many English-language articles out there about how Christmas is celebrated in Japan, and this one might be my favorite:
"In Japan, Christmas in known as more of a time to spread happiness rather than a religious celebration...Another popular activity at Christmas in Japan, especially in Tokyo, is visiting Tokyo Disneyland (which opened in 1983) and seeing all the decorations and the parades. The Christmas 'season' at Tokyo Disneyland is from the 2nd week in November until Christmas Day. On December 26th, all the Christmas decorations are gone, ready for the New Year celebrations to start! New Year is a very big celebration in Japan. A 'Disney' style Christmas might have also influenced how Japanese culture celebrates Christmas as a fun and romantic time, rather than a religious one."
Much like Disney's influence on Japan's Halloween they have also had an influence on Japan's Christmas, which might be one of the reasons why certain elements are turning up in Twst!

Cars characters' birthdays (Human AU)
Some characters share birthdates with their actors, but not the year for obvious reasons. Also, I've de-aged a lot of characters, particularly Doc, cause I don't want anyone dying in my AU just yet. As a result, Doc raced in the early 60s rather than the 50s.
I also might change some of these later depending on how my AU timeline goes.
Lightning: July 27th, 1984
Doc: January 26th, 1940
Sally: June 13th, 1982
Mater: January 12th, 1971 (kept the date but changed the year for obvious reasons)
Fillmore: May 28th, 1948 (combo of George Carlin & Lloyd Sherr’s birthdays)
Sarge: July 4th, 1949
Ramone: August 13th, 1958
Flo: January 25th, 1957 (only instance I use the actor’s birth year as well as date)
Luigi: March 10th, 1965
Guido: September 18th, 1967
Lizzie: February 14th, 1925
Red: October 30th, 1975
Sheriff: November 14th, 1944
Mack: May 14th, 1972
Strip: July 2nd, 1946
Lynda: April 23rd, 1947
Chick: February 12th, 1953
Cruz: January 6th, 1991
Cal: June 2nd, 1983
Bobby: December 10th, 1984

On July 30th 2003 Multi race winning Motorcyclist, Robert Steven ‘Hizzy’ Hislop died.
Hizzy, as he was affectionately known once said “If I’d never thrown my leg over a bike, I’d never have lived.”
Robert Steven Hislop grew up in the village of Chesters, near Hawick in the borders. His father started the interest of both he and his brother Garry in motorcycle racing. This was short lived at the time as he lost his father and a few years later his brother was killed at Silloth circuit. He ended up with a serious alcohol problem which led into depression.
Hizzy thankfully recovered and began his Isle of Man road racing career in 1983 by finishing second in the newcomers’ race at the Manx Grand Prix.
On short circuits, his first championship success came when he won the 250cc British Championship in 1990. Superbike victory followed with the British Superbike Championship in 1995. Some attributed his success to James Whitham leaving the series mid-season to deal with cancer.
Although he did not take a BSB victory in 1996 or 1997, Hislop was hired by Rob McElnea’s dominant Cadbury’s Boost Yamaha team for 1998. The nature of the fight for the championship between Hislop & team mate, fellow Scot. Niall Mackenzie, was illustrated by a near-collision on the last lap at Snetterton which cost the team a 1-2 finish. Hislop generally matched his countryman before a serious crash took him out of title contention.
His last championship success came in 2002 when he won the British Superbike Championship riding a Ducati. A notable feature of his season resulted from Hislop lapping Donington Park circuit more quickly on a superbike than the fastest Moto GP machine: Hislop’s modified production Ducati was heavier and less powerful than the bespoke Grand Prix bikes.
The 1992 Senior TT was described as an absolute classic. It is often described as one of the best races in TT history.
After their successful 1991 TT on all conquering Honda RVF machines, Hislop and Carl Fogarty had not planned to return in 1992. However, they both lined up on the Glencrutchery Road that year on unfancied machinery: Hislop was ona Norton with Fogarty on a Yamaha. The Norton Hizzy rode had been developed on a shoe string budget when compared with the Japanese competition. John Player had no intention of backing Steve’s TT campaign but after scratching around for some support and with minimal testing time, the team headed for the Isle of Man.
Hislop’s Norton took to the circuit in the unconventional white livery of Steve’s long term sponsor Abus. Hislop and the team defied the bike’s detractors by taking a fine 2nd place in the opening TT F1 race. The bike proved it could complete 6 laps of the gruelling Snaefell Mountain Course in hot weather so the team looked forward to Friday’s Senior TT.
Hislop’s main rival was Foggarty, who started at number 4. Steve started at 19. Not only did this give Hizzy more traffic to contend with but it also gave the crowd an anxious wait as the officials calculated the time difference between them. As the race progressed, the two riders smashed records they set the previous year with Hislop taking a narrow advantage into the final lap. In a last-ditch attempt to catch Hislop, Fogarty recorded a record lap time of more than 123 mph on his Yamaha. It was all in vain however as Hislop guided the fly splattered Norton home to an historic win. This was one of Hislop’s greatest achievements and one of the most popular TT wins. Carl Fogarty’s lap record stood for 7 years.
Hislop and Fogarty went on to become two of Britain’s most successful motorcycle racers, winning many races and championships. It was the 1992 Senior TT that saw them battle together for the last time.
Described by some as a flawed sporting genius, success in the world championships never materialised for Hislop. This was possibly because of a self-destructive aspect to his character. The flaw may have led to a number of well-publicised clashes with other riders and teams in the British championships which hindered progress into international series.
Having lost his brother and many friends in motorcycle accidents, he made a point of never going to the funerals of fellow racers, saying:
“Some people might find that a bit callous. I only ever attend family ones and people find it a bit strange that I won’t go to a friend’s funeral, but it’s just my little way of shutting off.”
Steve Hislop died in a helicopter accident in July 2003, near Teviothead, Roxburghshire and was interred in the village of Chesters near his birthplace of Hawick, Scotland. He had two children.
There is a bronze statue in memory of Hizzy in the grounds of Hawick Museum. at Wilton park and another at Onchan Head, Isle of Man, as seen in order in the pics. The last pic is a cairn near Teviothead, the scene of the helicopter crash, it reads……
‘Hizzy’ This cairn was built by a few friends of Steve Hislop, British Superbike Champion, who was tragically killed in a helicopter accident near this site, on July 30th 2003.
Kind permission was granted by His Grace The Duke of Buccleuch.

‘Steve & Nancy fic (gay Steve character study & introspection)’ is joint 2nd on the WIPs poll for now, so here’s some thoughts ❤️
Steve being gay is an interpretation that’s very personal to me & close to my heart. it’s not mentioned unambiguously in nbtdad, but it’s certainly what i had & continue to have in mind (kinda curious if it came across to anyone in certain scenes—it was at the forefront of my thoughts when he’s recounting his past time at the Simon & Garfunkel concert ❤️) & i more recently hinted at it in the post s1 Steve character study 1983 is calling.
for this fic, i’m still thinking over exactly how to frame it, but i’ve got a quote from little women in mind that Steve resonates with & he ends up getting reminded of it as the book’s in Nancy’s 1983 bedroom in The Upside Down. Steve’s dealing with some guilt & internalised homophobia at the thought of ‘wasting Nancy’s time’ years ago. i also just love taking a look at Steve & Nancy’s friendship, the ideas that while in s2 they were trying & failing to support one another, they click as friends in the future. ❤️
rn i’m thinking there may be some kinda confrontation scene with Eddie when he’s pushing for Steve & Nancy to get back together in the woods, but Steve & Nancy’s relationship is the main focus. undecided on what the main time frame is for the fic so here’s the little women quote & a lil sentence or two ❤️
“Oh, Teddy, I’m sorry, so desperately sorry, I could kill myself if it would do any good! I wish you wouldn’t take it so hard, I can’t help it. You know it’s impossible for people to make themselves love other people if they don’t,” cried Jo inelegantly but remorsefully, as she softly patted his shoulder, remembering the time when he had comforted her so long ago. “They do sometimes,” said a muffled voice from the post. “I don’t believe it’s the right sort of love, and I’d rather not try it,” was the decided answer.
Looking at her now, Steve feels that weight again, pressure behind his ribs. Another crack beneath the surface—too many to count. I’m sorry. I should’ve been able to love you like that.

YUPPIE PSYCHO: A COMPLETE TIMELINE
since i received the collector’s edition, i thought it would be a good time to type out the yuppie timeline! this is ordered from past to present, and does not include much elaboration on events or in-game evidence. if you are confused about a certain event or want to know where i found a certain date, please ask! i am always happy to share.
1918 — João Sintra (father of Domori and Rei) is born.
1924 — Xiu Ying (mother of Domori and Rei) is born.
1924-1951 (implied to be sometime in the 1950’s) — Domori is “adopted” by the Sintra family.
1951 — Sintracorp is founded by João Sintra.
1958 (March 21st-April 19th, an Aries) — Irina Rostov is born.
1960 (April 20th-May 20th, a Taurus) — Hugo is born.
1961 (October 23rd-November 21st, a Scorpio) — Rei Sintra is born to João and Xiu through Domori’s blessing.
1962 (November 22nd-December 21st, a Sagittarius) — Jenna Malone is born.
1963 (January 20th-February 18th, an Aquarius) — James Spader is born.
1965 (June 22nd-July 22nd, a Cancer) — Eric Marshall is born.
1966 (August 23rd-September 22nd, a Virgo)— Inay Doshi is born.
1968 (May 21st-June 21st, a Gemini) — Mappy is born.
1968, December — The Cornucopia Project begins.
1969 (February 19th-March 20th, a Pisces) — Marta Sosa is born.
1971, May 2nd — The last photo of the Sintra family is taken. Domori and Rei switch bodies.
1971 — Domori, in the body of Rei Sintra, goes missing and Rei is presumed dead.
1971 (implied to be June) — Rei Sintra, in the body of Domori, is burned at the stake.
1972, April 2nd — João Sintra commits suicide.
1973, May 10th — Xiu Ying takes over Sintracorp after the death of her husband.

1973 (December 22nd-January 19th, a Capricorn) — Catherine Hicks is born.
1974 (September 22nd-October 23rd, a Libra) — Brian Pasternack is born.
1981 — Xiu Ying establishes a protocol that grants Rei immediate succession to the CEO position.
1981 — Xiu Ying begins to hire witch hunters; Hugo is hired as a janitor as well.
1982 or 1983 (the gravestone and Sintra say different dates) — Xiu Ying dies.
1983, December — The sixth floor in the Sintracorp building is closed. Presumably, every Sintra android remaining is destroyed. (spader possibly began his contracted work with sintracorp around this time.)
1984, April 4th — The old Sintranet becomes corrupted. Employees are given updated computers. (possibly due to the devil’s influence?)
1982-1989 — The witch hunters A.M., R.C., and E.N. converse via handwritten letters.
1989, November — R. Corvo is killed, and this is heavily implied to be done by Hugo.
1989 — A. Moeta and E. Nazari are killed shortly afterwards.
1995, possibly— TIKITAKA becomes chief of security. (in one of his notes, tikitaka says he has been connected to the system for 58 weeks. this is a year and six weeks. the note is undated, so i merely used brian’s starting year as the base point.)
1996, either December 2nd or February 12th — Sintracorp sends a letter to Brian Pasternack, saying he has secured a position in their ranks.
1996, a week later (either December 9th or February 19th) — Anthony Chapman Jr., Catherine Hicks, and Brian Pasternack arrive at Sintracorp.

Sam Winchester. Born to John and Mary Winchester. May 2nd, 1983. Lawrence, Kansas. At the tender age of 7 months, he got his first taste of demon blood which awakened an array of abilities that would someday develop. He lost his mother that fateful night. Sam was never quite as outgoing as his brother, Dean. He was far more on the shy and reserved side. Always digging for more information. Observing the world and the people around him.
He had a love for books, studying them page by page. Even writing his own little stories every so often. As he got older, the stories made it to the page less and less. Learning that creatures that went bump in the night were not just stories, but things that they had to fight against. Sam had always had an inkling about this, however. Because throughout his younger years he caught fleeting glimpses of what he would someday realize were spirits. One spirit in particular used to appear to him often. Long blonde hair, a white gown, and a voice that soothed him even on the worst of days.
Not until years later when he saw a picture of Mary would the realization come to him that it was her that he had been seeing all those years ago. All went fairly normal as far as a hunters life went until it came time for Sam to graduate high school. That was when John had found out his plans for Stanford and after a heated argument he found himself without a home. There was still some time until the semester started so Sam had to fend for himself during that time, finding shelter and food on a day to day basis. He would occasionally find ways to contact Dean or Bobby, to let them know about his whereabouts until school started up.
The time at Stanford was the first blissful moments Sam had in some time. Only for that to be snuffed out when his father went missing and Jessica was killed. That was when something snapped within him. It was like a dam breaking. Abilities started manifesting within Sam Winchester: telekinesis, visions of the future, sensing spirits and otherworldly beings with ease, and this desire…this hunger he couldn't quite place.
Upon traveling with Dean once more he finds that there are other special children, much like himself who have had recent awakenings in ability. He meets a few of them: Ava and Andy among others. But those two stand out to him the most. But again, the hunt drags him back off but with the promise to reunite one day. Little did he know, that would be happening sooner than he anticipated. Azazel summons them all for a little killing game. To see who the best of the best is. But rather than listen, they all grouped up together and made a run for it. Spending weeks on the run because not only are they running from Azazel, they are running from all the hunters who would surely kill them if they knew what all of them were capable of.
All seemed well until one night, Jake turned on all of them. Stabbing Sam in the back and killing him. The other special children scatter, and Sam is only brought back due to Dean arriving on the scene just in time and making a demon deal. When Sam comes back, there's something a little different about him this time…He seems…darker. More ruthless than he had been before. It was like that first death had woken something within him. His powers remained even after. The visions and powers becoming more intense than they had before his death.
After Dean is taken to hell, Sam is at a loss of what to do. At what path to take. That is when he reunites with Ruby and learns of the way that demon blood can aid his powers. This is how he can be as strong as Dean. This is how he can save people. This is how he can find redemption for being the reason his brother had to die. There were so many options, even if he wasn't too fond of how it would come about.
Post Lilith's death, Sam keeps a small amount of demon blood on hand incase he ever needs it to help boost his powers which continue to grow naturally as well. Letting him exorcise demons with his mind. He decides if people are going to give him the name 'Boy King' then he would make it so. After all, he could change things for beings everywhere if he took charge down below. What better way to say 'screw you' to all of those who told him what he was going to be? So he continues to hone his abilities until that day would come. Or at the very least he would protect the gates and make sure no one else was at the helm.
After multiple possessions by angels, Sam learns that some of the grace from them was absorbed into the cracks of his soul. Which leads to some angelic abilities beginning to form: he can hear and understand enochian, he can teleport with enough concentration but it takes a huge energy toll, wings of course when he summons them, glowing blue eyes when using the grace.
Upon meeting Rowena, Sam studies under her and learns he has a real gift for spellcasting. After spending enough time around her, she is the only one he would be willing to hand over the throne of hell to. So they work together on taking it over.
