The more I see/hear things from the majority of the team behind Bridgerton the more its obvious that they have no idea what they're talking about when it comes to the genre/culture.

I understand the outrage people are having over Shonda's words. There has been a bit of a weird negative angle to the teams outlook on Kate sometimes (when really she did nothing wrong. she did one thing wrong ONE but thats it). Its sus that the woc get this weird angle played into their narratives by the team and certain characters are lauded as girlbosses.

But to me this in particular its just funny af because its not that deep people and they just come across as idiots. Shonda and co trying to act like they know what they're talking about when it comes to Regency culture and social norms when they've probably haven't even bothered with reading a couple of wiki pages.

This is one of those moments where someone tries to act like they know something, and they act like they know it reaaaally well, but it comes out horrible because I get what she’s trying to say but since she doesn’t get the now vs. then culture and even worse (imo) the “riding astride” trope in the HR genre it sounds slut shamey because, yeah it is slut shamey, but they're applying those words and this logic to a situation where its not applicable. Its like calling the men on the show rakes when they really aren't.

I'm not even mad about the whore comment because it just makes no sense? especially when there's no back up in the actual writing of the S2. She only rides her horse astride in private settings. And its only Mary's supposed scandal that presents a threat to anything and thats magically solved by QC choosing Edwina as her diamond. Portia and co make a comment on Mary and nothing is ever said by anyone other than Grandma Sheffield and LW about Kate in a negative light thats socially detrimental in any way.

The most anyone would think is "wow she's not like the other girls 😒" or a hellion and thats it? I also dont think the viewers would even clock it as otherly behavior, especially the GA. Those who know about the whole "riding astride" thing will also not overthink it to that extreme? Like thats a huge leap in logic babes 😂

Also Shonda when and how would hookers learn to ride a horse??? How would they have accessed those lessons???

Also painting Kate out as this scandalous wanton whore over riding astride is so funny to me since she nearly unalived herself over ONE orgasm. ONE.

Also hilarious is the fact that Kate riding astride makes Shonda feel scandalized but Daphne assaulting her husband didnt??

THANK YOU SO MUCH I HAVE REVEREND DAUGHTER GIDEON NAV ON THE BRAIN! Sit down with me while we talk, okay: First of all, she's an asshat, like, just straight up a bag of dicks. She's cocky, she's a show off, she thinks her shit don't stink. She's entitled, abrasive, MEAN, and above all else very VERY competitive. Physically she's a wet little chicken bone, with greyed out skin and dull hair. She did all her piercings herself (shocker), and she implanted bone into her own neck! Half for defense, half for it looking badass as hell. She also files her teeth so they're sharp af, which is great for looking like an abomination but the scars all over her lips and tongue will tell you not to do it yourself. She keeps a chain of teeth, fingers, and other misc. bone fragments around her neck for easy access for constructs, and she'll stim with it mindlessly while she's bored or thinking. She keeps three or four skulls on her waist for bigger constructs, sometimes she snaps off their teeth when she's in a particularly bad mood. She doesn't usually dress up in her full garbs with the skeleton hand shoulder pads, bone crown, veil and capes -- it's usually just for formalities and special occasions. Kept the idea of those braces on her fists, though I thought it would be cool to implement them into her gloves so she can wolverine at will. She's creepy, she's conceited, and she's seemingly always dissatisfied. She keeps Nova on her toes for sure (threatening). IDK i just think shes really neat, wish we could've gotten more of her in the books U - U

American and european writers are stuck on these styles and tropes but... what are these? I'm not a fantasy reader but i'd like to know.

in my opinion it's usually a solid book structure that most writers don't dare to break or play around with, like you have a main character, a defined and explicit problem being made known (ex: bad guy wants to own this weapon), a very straightforward mission to preventing that problem and then the end that tends to sum up the story neatly (good or bad, generally not a nuanced ending enough since it's mostly one or the other). Which is fine sometimes, I enjoy lots of fantasy books that are like this, but it also turns boring sometimes when you're a non English speaker used to different types of books, take for example heaven officials blessing since it's the one I'm currently reading, the plot is hard to define sure you could say something about it but there's so many moments and different plots going around throughout reading it that there isn't a single climax moment, there are multiple peaks in the story, the ending is quite mixed and not completely closed since some things are left up to interpretation or the readers imagination, also the concept of time is much more flexible and past memories are interwoven in the story constantly not set in a flashback which also prevents "info dumps" to me. You could say that it's bc tgcf is a very long story, but for example the starless sea does this magnificently in just 500 pages or so.

Latin American literature too has a very distinctive pace, it's slower, it's focused on being pretty and poetic rather than in arriving to a plot climax, because the entire book is the journey that the reader is enjoying, the reader isn't just consuming a solid plot. It trusts that readers are also reading slow enough as to understand subtext so it doesn't explicitly say a lot of things, or it works a lot with foreshadowing what will happen in later books even though the reader might not immediately understand what it means, something that I've found in today's usamerican and European fantasy which is also the most published worldwide is how rushed it is, there is no reader-writer alliance in which the writer acknowledges the reader is smart enough to understand and the reader is patient enough to wait out, and it won't change probably because of how much money booktok is making editorial houses, and we all know what sort of stories booktok pushes the most.
