I haven't worked it all out, because this was mostly a half-amused daydream during my walk, but I like the idea of Wei Wuxian being Rapunzel because I can very, very vividly imagine him in the "THIS IS THE BEST DAY EVER- I am a horrible son. I'm going back- I AM NEVER GOING BAAAACK" scene while Lan Wangji just stands stoically to the side and witnesses All That.

The one bit of black hair is because a) it matches the brown hair in the movie, that shows what happens when it's cut and b) I always draw wwx with bangs and suddenly not having ANY was throwing me off.

I'm not sure how Lan Wangji comes across Wei Wuxian because there's no way he's play a "thief" role so there'd have to be a different motivation there... maybe go a bit closer to the old school Rapunzel legend and have him realize there's someone trapped in the tower? Or he knew Wei Wuxian when they were both younger, before Wei Wuxian was taken, and he's been Looking? I'm not sure.

Madam Yu I think would fill the role of Mother Gothel, and at the end instead of finding his parents, Wei Wuxian finds his long lost siblings who have been missing their brother (ever since he was spirited away by Madam Yu... maybe she's trying to keep him from her children and syphon off his power? I'm not sure, but there's something there.

as someone with long hair every time i see a character who is drawn with their hair up by default i always think about how long their hair ACTUALLU is bc tying hair up takes off like. a good amount of length. It’s the difference between shoulder blade length hair and lower back length hair and basically i’m just thinking about how long wwx’s hair is

It’s like I have 3 mdzs long fics in my head, one is a finished 50k first draft love letter to sibling relationships, the other has a 100 word crack snippet modern AU and the last one is a terribly angsty examination of being raised codependent and in isolation/imprisonment that only exists in my head so far.

None of these fics share a thing except A-Yuan being the best boy so there’s that I guess

I participated in the MXTX Remix event back in 2021 and it was a lot of fun! I ended up turning someone else's Canon Divergence Liushen fic ("tangled in the hanging tree" by technorat) into a Star Wars / Space Opera AU version of itself, in which Shen Yuan was a symbiote attached to Shen Jiu and they bickered a lot.

I also received "demons don't write what they know" from atarah, which is a Demon Liu Mingyan / Human Sha Hualing fic, inspired by my own Moshang Human/Demon Role Reversal AU.

It's on a shorter time scale than a Big Bang event, so you don't have to make a commitment half-a-year or more in advance: assignments go out on February 13th and assignments are due March 29th. The minimum requirements are also much more manageable: a complete 1,000-word fic or a clean piece of lineart. I think it's potentially a fun entry point into fan events if you've already start creating art or fic for one of these fandoms and are personally interested into dipping your toes into gift exchanges.

There is the pressure of transforming someone else's work into a gift for them, but it can also be fun to play with another fan's stuff, using someone else's story as a structure rather than starting from scratch. Though definitely not for everyone, it can also be interesting to open up your own work to someone else's transformation, and see what about your art or writing speaks to someone else. 14. I’m in the Mood For: Any fics where WWX submits to the Lans for cleansing in exchange for safety for the Wens. I read Decay by ante bunny and loved the premise, but wanted more focus on the consequences of the cleansing.

I love the theory that resentful energy can’t heal but can hold things in stasis, and thus WWX is literally being held together with resentful energy. Because otherwise how did he survive getting stabbed and dropped at great height and starving all without a golden core.

The Night We Met - Trails of Stardust

Wei Wuxian crossed his arms over the starboard side of Lan Wangji’s boat, smiling at the shimmers of moonlit water licking the sides of the boat as they drifted along. He shivered a bit and rubbed his arms, and at that moment Lan Wangji came to his side with a rudimentary blanket they picked up on a supply stop at one of the harbors.

“Thank you, Lan Zhan.” Wei Wuxian smiled and cuddled up to the man’s side as he joined him on the deck.

“Mn.” Lan Wangji wrapped an arm around the merman, gently guiding him to his side. Lan Wangji was always so warm, Wei Wuxian loved it. Thankfully, Lan Wangji had also gotten a bit more used to the close contact the other craved over the past year or so. “Better?”

Wei Wuxian beamed, “The best.” He leaned into the other’s shoulder and looked up into the sky, a contented smile on his face. “The sky is beautiful tonight, don’t you think?” He gasped though, bringing the man’s attention to the sky as well. “Shooting stars! My favorite!”

When the merman quickly closed his eyes however, Lan Wangji tilted his head slightly in confusion. “Don’t you want to see them then-?”

“Shh!” Wei Wuxian was quiet for a moment longer after he had bapped the other gently in response, then opened his eyes again with a big grin. “I was making a wish!”

Lan Wangji smiled subtly and his eyelashes lowered, keeping his attention on the other’s crystal eyes rather than the stars. “What do you wish for?”

“But if I tell you, it won’t come true.” Wei Wuxian pouted, booping his nose up against the other’s jawline.

“Ask me.”

“Huh?”

“Ask me and if it is anything I can give you, see if I will deny you.”

Wei Wuxian felt his heart pick up, the warm rosy hues in his cheeks giving Lan Wangji the softest heart palpitations in return. “Anything?”

“Anything.” Lan Wangji brought the other’s hand to his chest, gently squeezing his hand.

“I wished that you would finally ask me to be yours.” Wei Wuxian spoke quietly, so quietly that Lan Wangji wasn’t sure he heard it right.

“Mine?”

“Yours.”

Lan Wangji swallowed quietly and ran his fingers into the other’s fringe, gently tangling them into the hair at the base of the other’s head. “Then please…be mine.”

Wei Wuxian met the other’s lips with fervor, wrapping his arms around the other’s neck to bring him so close it was like they were one.

“Yes, yes please.” Wei Wuxian answered softly, breathlessly as they indulged kiss after kiss, trails of stardust not able to steal their gazes away from each other.

“Are you alright?” Lan Wangji asked worriedly as he approached the shivering child. “Did they hurt you?” He stopped a few feet from him. “N-no,” the boy’s lips trembled and he shook his head. “Tha-thank you,” he stood up and bowed, “for driving them away.” When the boy straightened up, Lan Wangji gasped under his breath as his face broke into the brightest smile Lan Wangji had ever seen. Despite his tattered clothes and dirt and tear stained face, the boy looked radiant and happy. His smile was wide and vibrant and made the snowy night a little brighter as it crinkled his eyes into beautiful crescents. “Here,” Lan Wangji stepped closer and removed his outer cloak. “You must be very cold in those,” he said simply as he held out the thick robe. “Ah, I can’t ta-take th-that,” the boy sniffled and shivered as he scratched the back of his neck and smiled sheepishly. “It belongs to you.” “I have more layers underneath,” Lan Wangji insisted. “You do not.” “Ah, alright,” the boy grinned and took the cloak and wore it, immediately exhaling with a relieved sigh as he was enveloped by its warmth. Lan Wangji felt a warmth bloom in his own chest as the boy’s smile softened and his shivers subsided. He couldn't help but observe him as the boy studied him from head to toe as well. The boy’s hair was black as a raven, wild and tangled as it was barely held together by a red ribbon that was in poor condition just like his robes. Lan Wangji thought he could make out small furry ears hidden within the wavy locks but he couldn’t be sure. If the boy was around his age, it was probably too early for any of his animal spirit features to be prominent. Lan Wangji’s own antlers and tail were barely visible yet. Even though Yiling did not have any cultivators, given its proximity to Qinghe it was possible that the child was a shishi, a lion dog, like the Nie clan. But if the child was an orphan as his current state suggested, he could have any animal spirit origin, if he was a cultivator at all. He glanced at the twitching strands on his head, his entire face softening on seeing how adorable the boy looked. Lan Wangji didn’t miss the way the boy’s curious eyes did a double take on seeing the rattle toy in his hand. He looked down at the toy and then at the boy – who was smiling even in his dire circumstance. Lan Wangji saw the twinkle in his eyes as the boy grinned wider and scratched his cheek and nose. Unbidden, his mind conjured up images of his mother and the way she would pull his cheeks and tap his nose. The boy seemed happy despite the state he was in. “Here,” Lan Wangji said, his voice barely above a whisper as he held out the toy. “Huh?” The boy tilted his head and blinked at Lan Wangji, looking even more endearing and innocent. “This is for you,” Lan Wangji hesitated but then stepped closer and reached for the boy’s hand. He placed the toy in his cold hand and closed his fingers around it, making sure he was holding on to it. Lan Wangji paused but then covered the boy’s hand with both of his, just for a moment, just enough to warm them, before letting go. He adjusted the cloak around the boy and fastened the clip before nodding and stepping back again. “Thank you,” the boy said softly, his smile shy and embarrassed.

🥺 Is there a certain type of moment or common interaction between your characters that never fails to put you in your feels? A good old passionate smooch! as someone who irl hates kisses, oh boy the concept of them? mmmm yess, very good. Also just, casual touching, love that shit. Folks crying on each other or an emotional confession??? wrecks me.

🛒 What are some common things you incorporate in your fics? Themes, feels, scenes, imagery, etc. I love,,,soft. Found family gets in there a lot. Adding women into settings where there's not many of them in canon (ie. compass and tangled by the night). I think all my fics have a getting together component. A little angst, h/c, etc always gets in there cause 👌👌👌.

❌ What's a trope you will never write? Write? oh man...less of a trope, more of a genre, different setting AUs are not it for me, ie. modern AUs, historial AUs, I always like the settings of whatever it is I'm writing of and that's the world I want to play around in, and even when I'm reading fic, those are the fics I only really read when I'm desperate for something. Tropes wise I could probs see myself writing any if it suited me?

💲 Would you ever open commissions? Probably not, mainly because if I do not have a clear plan of the overall structure of a fic, it will not get finished. I am however defo open to suggestions of fic ideas, they may or may not take me anywhere, but they also might! I had so much fun with my artist partner angie-s-g when working on 'let our walls cave in' for the mdzs rbb22 as that was a very collaborative process in laying out the story beats together which I then went running with. All my other fics v much get written p much in a vaccuum without outside eyes (which, not the greatest i will say, and, one of the reasons i started posting compass before it was done was so i could get a little feedback as we went, but it is what it is). I think i got off topic here....whoops

👀 Tell me about an up and coming wip please! Oh, hm...let me check the wip doc...hmmm, of these I have no idea if any will get finished or even shared...I've been working on Compass for like, a year and a half now and I only really dip into these when I get stuck but want to keep the writing habit going and oh man there a lot of very shameless smut/abo/nonsense in here . So short answer is, no idea what the next actual project is, maybe one of these, maybe a new idea!

This Crossover Pits The Cultivation vs. The Sidhe

So, what I think is was one of the first "urban faerie" novels (Aside from Charles De Lint and a few other writers) is a book by Emma Bull called "War for the Oaks." The story follows a rock musician who gets tangled up in a war between the Seelie and Unseelie Court. The reason *why* she gets tangled up in the war is because she's basically a living spell component to make the fighters on either side mortal so the war will "count." (Note: There needs to be a mortal on each side of the conflict, usually with some connection between them.)

The book's a little dated, in many respects, it came out in the eighties or so, but it's a good read.

So, let's cross it over with MDZS!!

Also: Let's make it a reincarnation AU!

The Setting is probably going to be somewhere in the US, because that's where WftO takes place. (Why are the Sidhe in the Midwest, where the story takes place? Because colonialism.) Let's say Reincarnated! Wei Ying and Jiang Cheng get dragged into some kind of war between the Unseelie courts. Are they cultivators or not? I don't know.

The Courts leverage JC and WY into going through with becoming the mortal in the mortal conflict, and this ends up being a Very Bad Idea. Maybe the spell makes Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian remember their past lives? Maybe it pisses off spirits who have been watching over Wei Wuxian because he still has a connection to the Burial Mounds? Maybe Lan Wangji is also a dragon and he's very pissed off?

Anyway, the Chinese spirit world, American Diaspora Bureau Division is now very annoyed with the Seelie and Unseelie Courts.

Silence.

“Lan Zhan?”

Lan Wangji looks like he’s deeply considering something. Wei Wuxian waits patiently, curiosity biting around him.

“I do not know,” Lan Wangji finally says.

Wei Wuxian blinks once, then twice. “What?”

“I do not know,” repeats Lan Wangji.

“What do you mean, you don’t know?” Wei Wuxian gazes upon him incredulously, feeling the slackening of his jaw against the sides of his face. “Aren’t you living in here? Isn’t that literally why?”

Lan Wangji clarifies: “I do not know why I am living here.”

Huh. “Huh?”

“The books,” Lan Wangji says abruptly. He looks pained, like he’s fighting through getting his words out—like he wants to be doing literally anything else. Somehow, Wei Wuxian doesn’t doubt it. “The books say that there are a lot of people out there.”

“Out where?” asks Wei Wuxian, aghast.

“Out there,” Lan Wangji repeats calmly.

“Like, out of this tower? Of course there are people out there! Have you been living under a rock?”

“No. I have been living in this tower.”
