Am I the only one who doesn’t want another SoC book? Not that it wouldn’t be welcomed but I feel like the duology was done perfectly. It’s a beautifully written complete story.

I just don’t think fanservice is a good enough reason to write a book.

In RoW we saw how the characters are:

Inej in the sea being a slaver hunting legend (as she should queen), Kaz being the barrel boss after getting his revenge, wylan and Jesper living peacefully, Nina being a fejrdan queen under false identity (i have… ambivalent feelings towards this storyline) and Matthias… 6 ft under…

im sorry but something needs to be said. the "kanej and helnik are so deep and poetic and wesper is so fun and silly 🤪🤪" joke is SO FUCKING TIRED. its not even TRUE. do i really need to explain the poeticism of wylan and jesper?? they both spent their whole lives thinking a fundamental part of them was wrong. wylan was abused and manipulated by his father into thinking his disability made him worthless. jesper repressed his grisha talent his whole life because his father told him it was dangerous; that he'd be be better off without it. it got his mother killed. but having each other makes them realize that they are worth something. they love and trust each other so much that knowing that the other values them gives them a whole new perspective. they didn't think they deserved love. THEY NEVER THOUGHT THEY WOULD GET TO HAVE THIS!! WITH EACH OTHER!! DO YOU UNDERSTAND

Can we talk about the found family trope and queer-coded/canonically queer characters? Because there is a ton of overlap between these two. 

In their stories, the queer/queer-coded characters no longer have a supportive family for a number of reasons (Hiccup refuses to kill dragons, Johnny wants to be a singer, Nimona is a shapeshifter, etc). A lot of times these reasons are things that ‘other’ them from people around them, thereby furthering the queer allegory. 

And this lack of support is what drives these characters to form/find a found family made of more people who are like them. People who will treat them with the love and support that their family should have. It pushes them into the found family trope.

The prevalence of found family in queer and queer-coded story lines serves to make them more relatable and realistic but it’s also heart breaking that familial rejection is so common that this trope does make it more realistic.
