Is every adaptation of ATLA like allergic to casting Inuit actors as the Water tribe characters or something. First we got the whitewashing shitshow "The Last Airbender", then the Netflix adaptation DID mostly cast Native actors as the Water Tribe characters, but Sokka is a pretendian, Katara is played by Mohawk actress Kiawentiio Tarbell plus a white looking Meegwun Fairbrother as another character, and now the Nickelodeon animated adult gaang series cast Jessica Matten, who is mixed Cree/Métis (who, by the way, were historically enemies with Inuit), was cast as Katara. Why.

There needs to be a conversation about the colorism in the casting of indigenous people so far-even if you believe Sokka’s actor is ndn he along with Kuruk and Katara’s actors are noticeably lighter then their characters. (Comically so in Sokka and Kuruk’s case)
Usually I’d give Katara’s actress a pass because at least she’s visibly brown but with the other actors it’s a :// pattern. This is not criticism at Katara’s actress btw I’m glad a native woman is getting any role but between the colorism and the inability to just cast Inuit people there’s def conversations to be had 😭😔

Earth : avatar Kyoshi - Yvonne Chapman. Fire : avatar Roku - C.S. Lee.” Underneath are three headshots of the actors over their characters (a lightskinned man with green eyes over Kuruk a darkskinned man dressed in white fur, an Asian woman with short hair in a black dress over Kyoshi an Asian woman in white makeup and green robes, and a bald asian man with a mustache over a Asian man with long hair and a beard in red robes.) : end id.

The Legend of Korra Fancast
This one was hard to make. Specially the Watertribe that is based manly on the Inuk people but it physical appearance also resemble a lot other native people, like the Maori and other Native American people.
This fancast is based on appearance, ethnicity and vibes.
Korra- Devery Jacobs and Sydney Park
Tumblr media
Devery Jacobs is a native actress who stars in Reservation Dogs, a show I haven't watched but it is on my watchlist. She is the first pick for the role, because she is native american, despite being light skinned in comparison to Korra.
The second pick is Sydney Park, I read she is mixed but I choose her based on her appearance only. I haven't seen none of them acting, but in those pictures I could see Korra in both of them.
Asami Sato - Havana Rose Liu and Kelsey Chow
Tumblr media
I've Watched Bottoms and in the moment I saw Havana Rose Liu on screen I thought "that's Asami Sato" and, I mean, just look at her. She is gorgeous, sophisticated, charismatic, she even has those beautiful green eyes. And importantly, the acting is there.
I feel the same with Kelsey Chow, especially after watching clips of her in Yellowstone. Sure, she ain't asian or asian American (I've read that she has some native american background) but still, I think she is a good second choice even being too old for the role cuz like Devery Jacobs, who is also in her 30's, they look younger than they really are.
Mako - JJ Jr Mackenyu / Ludi Lin
Tumblr media
I haven't watched One Piece but one look at JJ Jr Mackenyu and I saw Mako.
Same with Ludi Lin, sure he is also too old for the role but he has that "cooliness" , that "bad boy" aura that Mako has especially in book 1.
Bolin - Niko Hiraga // Kai Bradbury
Tumblr media
I only saw Niko Hiraga in Booksmart and haven't seen any work of Kai Bradbury but look at those eyes, such sympathetic eyes man.
Tenzin - Donnie Yen / Ke Huy Quan
Tumblr media
Ip Man himself as Tenzin is a dream and one of the most common fancasting of the character but I think Ke Huy Quan would be The Tenzin, I mean, in Everything Everywhere all at once he shows an heart and an light that justs would fit Tenzin so well
Lin Beifong - Michelle Yeoh // Ming-Na Yen
Tumblr media
The same with Michelle Yeoh, I mean just look at her and her works. Ming-Na Yen would also be an amazing choice for Lin, if see her in clips from agents of shield and damn she seems so good in there.
Suyin Beifong - Maggie Q / Lucy Liu
Tumblr media
Maggie Q is a baddie with such kind eyes and mother vibe (yes, I loved Nikita) that fits so well with Su. Lucy Liu brings the same as Maggie Q but with some swagger that would be fun to watch.
Amon - Meegwun Fairbrother / Adam Beach
Tumblr media
No, Meegwun is not a white man but it is white passing just as Amon. I haven't see any of them acting, I'm going just by looks here. Adam would be the choice if they choose to make Amon look more like a Watertribe man.
Tarrlok - Tatanka Means // Matariki Whatarau
Tumblr media
Same with Amon fancasting, Mataraki ain't native american but he is Maori(according to google) and yes, he is too young for the character and that's also why Tatanka is my first choice
Zaheer - Henry Rollins / Ron Yuan
Tumblr media
Before y'all jump on me because I pick a white guy has first choice to play Zaheer, let's remember that he has a view of the Air Nomad culture and mentality that he considers superior even in comparison with the only Airbender master at the time, he also is a hypocrite since he let his friends destroy a millennial temple symbol and museum of the culture he said it's inspired him. This is the type of arrogance and disrespect that typically comes from a white man c'mon
I didn't know any of Ron Yuan work but just by his appearance I think he would be a good choice for Zaheer
Kuvira - Sonoya Mizuno / Natasha Liu Bourdizzo
Tumblr media
Sonoya and Natasha , can't choose who I like best for the character, both of them has that damn penetrating powerful gaze.

With a few days' distance, I can say there's a couple of original scenes I actually really liked in the new A:tLA adaptation.
Zuko's men finding out that the reason he was burned was because he refused to let them be sent to a certain death, and wordlessly honoring him as a true leader. That was a moving scene, more subtle than others in the new material, and a great preparation to Zuko's endgame.
Aang's meeting with Kuruk. Meegwun Fairbrother's acting was really good and I don't really know if the extra Kuruk lore was explored in a spinoff, but the way his body and spirit were affected by his battles parallels really nicely with Korra.
Zuko's research on past Avatars being what leads Aang to Kyoshi's and Roku's shrines. Like I said in another post, he's already getting dragged kicking and screaming into the Gaang. Now if they hadn't felt the need to shove it in our faces two episodes later-
I can probably think of more, cause I didn't hate the show (except the finale, like, WAY to miss the point), but they're those that really stand out to me.

i finished all of the new atla in one sitting. i didn't just like it for what it is as a separate entity. i loved it. i think it did a lot of things better, actually, than the original while staying true to the spirit of the show. even in the notable flaws i could see the effort and love put into this project by the diverse collection of talent and skill both on and off the screen. i have a lot of thoughts i want to sit on for a bit, many of them about katara specifically, that i will put to words soon.
my overall non-spoiler takeaway is that i think people are too impatient to let the show run its course before they judge things, which is an overall problem with modern media literacy. i have to wonder how many haters took the time to watch it in full and let the arcs play out fully.
anyway. it's danged good. the casting is immaculate. meegwun fairbrother needs to call me for coffee. and i need a season 2 immediately.

ATLA IS BACK! 20 new castings confirmed!
Today is a big day because Netflix has officially confirmed 20 new castings in the upcoming live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series, which is now officially done both 7 months of principal photography and one month of reshoots, and now in post-production!
Four castings are brand-new:
Lucian-River Chauhan - Teo
Hiro Kanagawa - Fire Lord Sozin
George Takei - Koh the Face Stealer
Randall Duk Kim - Wan Shi Tong
Sixteen are confirmations of previous casting scoops, eight of which were Avatar News exclusives!
Amber Midthunder - Princess Yue
A Martinez - Master Pakku
Irene Bedard - Master Yagoda
Joel Oulette - Hahn
Nathaniel Arcand - Chief Arnook
Meegwun Fairbrother - Avatar Kuruk
Arden Cho - June the bounty hunter
Utkarsh Ambudkar - King Bumi
Danny Pudi - the mechanist
James Sie - the cabbage merchant
Momona Tamada - Ty Lee
Thalia Tran - Mai
Ruy Iskandar - Lieutenant Jee
Ryan Mah - Lieutenant Dang
C. S. Lee - Avatar Roku
François Chau - the Great Sage of the Fire Temple
We also have some new, illuminating, official character details:
Lieutenant Dang
Lieutenant Dang’s position in the Fire Navy is now confirmed to be Commander Zhao’s second-in comand.
King Bumi
The age of the character of King Bumi is confirmed to indeed still be an old man (“ancient” in the colloquial sense).
Avatar Kuruk
We have an official character description for Avatar Kuruk, which will be very interesting to anyone who has read the Chronicles of the Avatar novels: “A previous Avatar with a haunted past.”
(This could also be interpreted as being about Ummi, which of course factors in, but I do have confirmation that it’s related to the novels although I can’t say more since it’s spoilers for the end of the show!)
Three other castings were not confirmed today:
Sebastian Amoruso - Jet
Joel Montgrand - Hakoda
Rainbow Dickerson - Kya
I still have very strong confirmation these are still true, they just weren’t in today’s “main” Season 1 cast announcement. There will of course be dozens more characters than the ones officially revealed so far!
But, what feels like the biggest deal today in some ways is that after more than 9 months of complete, top-secret radio silence (285 days!), live-action ATLA is back with official news! This is a really good sign for times to come.
It’s also cool to me that they made their own special announcement for this rather than including it in Netflix’s Tudum Global Fan Event with dozens of other shows and movies, which was only just a few days ago. Because this show is special, it’s set apart, and it’s gonna be BIG. Now we just wait...

Hi there! I'm not sure if you can help me with this but I really want to use Meegwun Fairbrother as a fc but I can't seem to find an age for him no matter how hard I look. Any chance you could work some magic for me? Thank you for all that you do for the rpc! <3
Hey anon! I messaged the amazing @olivaraofrph according to an old tweet (that she can't tell for sure if it was asking his age as the original tweet has been deleted) and famousbirthdays, "an educated guess would be that he’s somewhere around 35, probably/likely 35 exactly but can’t say for sure!"
