My sister called Megan's new song cringe but honest to god let a woman like something for once!!! She's just like us fr except she's really hot and talented in real life. Most of the time, Darlin' is portrayed as buff or skinny due to them fighting, which is fine, but also kinda disheartening as a plus size person who LOVES and relates to them on a whole other level.

: They taught themselves how to sew because they never have clothes in there size that are their style

Those are all the ones that I have. Keep in mind these are based off my own experiences as a chubby person. So some of these you may relate to some of these, you may not. 

This is a new way that my brain looks at darlin so I haven’t come up with as many Headcanons, as I would’ve liked to. But that just means that there’s room for more in the future

ok so i watched 2007 movie for the first time (ive read about it and seen some scenes, but never watched the whole thing) anyways finally got a hold of myself and watched it! Specially bc of 3 reasons

Sooooo Bobbery Drabble for nostalgia’s sake? 👀 here’s a prompt if you wanna use it: used to work together a few years ago, lost touch, now both back in town without the other knowing, and ran into each other at the same location

Bob wasn't planning on staying in that particular church very long. He just...didn't live in the city.

Well, technically, he did. But only while in university. On winter and summer breaks he'd return home and attend church in the congregation he grew up in.

But he was still a regular church goer through the school semesters. And with how well he seemed to do with the kids...when he was approached and asked to volunteer with Sunday School and youth ministry...how could he say no?

His favorite were the school aged kids. A boy named Tom, the son of an older member of the church who was affectionately called 'Pa' by most was his favorite, even if he wasn't supposed to have those.

The day he met Megan, however, he was not with the school aged children. He'd been pulled to help with the three year olds, and while cute, they were an entirely different task.

He'd been in the middle of reminding a pair of twins, Katrina and Sabrina, who'd been fighting over a doll, that sharing was caring, and that they could play with the toy together, when one of the other adults stepped in. "You should both be very thankful you have a sister to play dolls with." she spoke sweetly. "After all, your other sister probably isn't very good at playing with them at her little age, is she?"

"All she does is cry and poop." Sabrina agreed.

Katrina sighed. "You're right, Miss Megan. Sorry sis."

"Is okay!" Sabrina grinned. "We can share!"

"Thanks." Bob smiled, standing up to be on eye level with the woman. "Do you know these girls outside of...?"

"Not really." Megan shrugged. "I'm usually helping in the nursery. That's where my own son is, so I'm usually taking care of their baby sister."

"Oh!" Bob was...surprised. She didn't look much older than he did. He was only in his second year of university. He definitely thought he was too young for kids but...maybe God just had a different path for her. He glanced down, noticing the wedding ring on her finger. Figured, she was pretty. Really pretty. "I'm not usually in here either, I'm normally with the grade twos."

"You're fairly new to the congregation, no?" she asked, Bob only now noticing the French accent she spoke with.

He nodded. "I go to university near by. My roommate Larry and I both are from out of town, so we started coming to this church together."

"Larry..." she spoke slowly, and then, as if a lightbulb lit up above her "...the lanky one in the choir?"

"That's the one!" Bob laughed.

"My husband is in choir with him." she smiled. "Apparently the boy's got quite the natural gift."

"He's always singing." Bob noted. "Whether it's worship music, something on the radio, or a song he made up when he can't find his hairbrush."

"It's nice to have a musical household." she smiled, before suddenly snapping "Rosie! We do not throw things at our friends!"

They never did work together after that. But they knew each other - making small talk every other Sunday. Bob continued to volunteer until his graduation, both he and Larry moving once again, this time to the big city pursue their dreams of show business.

It wasn't until five years after that - eight year since their initial meeting - that they'd run into each other again.

Bob had been grabbing a latte on his way home, when a familiar blonde with a school aged son caught his eye in the line up. "Sorry...there's no chance that you're...?"

"My, my." She smirked. "Do my eyes deceive me? Look who made it to the big city after all."

"Haven't left." he nodded. "Larry's still here, too."

"Oh, Francois," she turned towards the child. "Do you remember Larry? From church when you were just a little one?" as the boy nodded shyly, Megan explained "Well this is Bob. He would help with Sunday School and youth ministry with me. He was Larry's best friend back then-"

"I still am!" He grinned. "We work on a show together - I kinda run the whole thing..."

"Quite the accomplishment!" she smiled. "If you're ever open for visitors, I'd love to swing by and see you and Larry."

"Absolutely! You, Francois, your husband..."

An awkward silence fell over the group. Francois looked to his mother sadly, before Megan gently explained "He isn't with us anymore."

Repent! The Reign of God Is Near!

Last night I sat with a seventeen-year-old transgender man as he died from an overdose of fentanyl; on November 20 we had the Club Q massacre in Colorado Springs, LGTBQ Club, and two were transgender.

I thought of my own complicity in the discrimination of being an ordained priest; of my own pain caused by the Church. I thought of the pain the Church had inflicted on me as well!

Dr. Megan Rhor writes: "Churches always want to welcome queer people but do it quietly to avoid the bullets, bullies and rage and all who blame queer people .for every problem in society."

I have no adult friends who are active in local churches with whom I can comfortably about talk queer youth or even adults. Churches are always silent when it comes to LGTBQ issues, especially youth!

When denominations open to LGBTQ they push everything behind the door and move on without being inclusive of education and talking about feelings and pain resulting from past discrimination. All is well as the sins of the past continue to corrode and destroy.

Drug use is growing among youth. A recent study tells us that over half of California youth over 12 drink alcohol, and twenty-percent smoke marijuana. Personally, I only know six who are straight-edge and who are homeless or housed and I know hundreds.

Our woundedness can only be healed as we grieve, and then put our lives back together. In doing so we can become wounded healers. For wounded healers embrace and move through their pain.

Jesus accepts all of us equally, he loves each one of us equally and cares for us as his brothers and sisters without judgment.

Join me in the Trevor Project, focused on suicide prevention efforts among LGBTQ youth. Their stated goals are to provide crisis intervention and suicide prevention services for people under twenty-five. The heaviest rates of suicide are among LGTBQ youth, forty percent of the total number.

During December the Trevor Project is sponsoring a "Forty Mile Challenged Walk", walking forty miles during the month with individuals donating for each mile. I’ve been away for a couple of weeks on a beautiful Catholic pilgrimage in Assisi. It’s always been our dream to visit Rome and Assisi. Everything aligned, and Bill, Claire and I went for ten days with the Fr. Cory Stanley and the good people of Prince of Peach Parish in Altus and St. Helen in Frederick, Oklahoma. Fr. Stanley lived in Rome for several years, and he was a great spiritual guide, who could also speak Italian. Fr. Joseph Schwarz was our other wonderful spiritual guide. Our main tour guide was Alessandro Pietro Gaj. He and Luciano, our fantastic, amazing bus driver, made our trip the best it could be. The tour company is 206 Tours, and they specialize in pilgrimages. I can’t say enough nice things about this company.

Our tour was customized by Fr. Stanley. We flew to Rome and then traveled for 2.5 hours to Assisi where St. Francis and St. Clare lived, walked and prayed. I thought I’d share a few photos with you of our trip. We stayed for three days in Assisi at St. Anthony’s Guesthouse. The Franciscan Sisters of the Atonement were wonderful and so helpful during our stay. The guesthouse is centrally located near the Basilica of St. Clare and inside the oldest city walls.

We had mass at the tomb of St. Francis and St. Clare, which are in separate basilicas at the ends of the town.

If I’m remembering correctly, the first day we visited the Portiuncula, a small chapel within the basilica of St. Mary of the Angels, located about a mile below Assisi in the valley. Portiuncula, which means “a small portion” of land also refers to the town built around the church. This part of Italy is full of small towns built mostly on hillsides because of historic warring factions, but the Portiuncula is in a small valley.

The Roselo, or Rose Garden at St. Mary of the Angels where legend has it that St. Francis threw himself into the thorns to stop temptation. The roses supposedly quit growing thorns. It was too early for bloom, but our daily guide told us they bloom in all colors. I can attest they had no prickles on the day we visited. I don’t know the variety.

We weren’t allowed to take a photo of the Portiuncula from inside the church, but we were allowed to take one outside. (Click on the photos in the galleries to make them larger. The monks and sisters are very strict in the churches of Assisi which makes sense. Otherwise, as we saw in Rome, people do foolish things in holy places. On this trip, I also didn’t lug around my good cameras. I only brought my iPhone so all the photos are taken with it. I just wanted to experience everything without having my neck ache.

The amazing thing about Assisi is how it hasn’t changed. No one felt the need to come in and tear down buildings. Instead, it feels very much like it did when St. Francis and St. Clare and their contemporaries lived there in the 13th Century. It also smelled wonderful, and the only sounds I heard most days were the bells ringing from the churches along with conversation on the streets.

I stood at the window of our room and took many photos and just breathed in the peace that surrounds this ancient city.

Except for the traffic.

Tiny cars whizzing down tiny streets don’t leave much room for pilgrims on the road. Constantly, someone in our group was shouting “Car, car!” just in time for us to flatten ourselves against a 13th Century building. You think I jest, but I do not. It was frankly a bit scary. Italian drivers are completely different from American ones. Not worse, just different. Wait until I share about Rome.

We had a wonderful time and spent a lot of our days in Assisi in the Basilica of Saint Francis and the Basilica of Saint Clare. As I wrote above, we had mass at both of their tombs. While we were in St. Francis’ Basilica, I had the strangest feeling that my former pastor, Rev. John A. Petuskey, was with us. When Bill and I were a young married couple, he always told us stories about Assisi and said he would take us with him to travel there one day. We were young and broke and had four kids. We never thought we’d ever get the chance, but he kept telling us we would. I remember also he was heartbroken when Assisi was hit by an earthquake and parts of the churches were destroyed, but he said we still had to go. When he died, I remember thinking that he wouldn’t get to share his favorite place on Earth with us. So, imagine my surprise when I was on the upper level of the basilica gazing up at the frescoes of Giotto on the life of St. Francis, I felt Fr. Petuskey with me. It was as if he were standing right next to me. Later, I mentioned this to Bill, and he said he felt exactly the same thing at the same time. Maybe God let the veil down long enough for us to have Father with us. I like to think so. He meant so much to our young family. I think Father would be so happy we finally got to Assisi at least with our youngest daughter, Claire. She was named after St. Clare, and Father Petuskey always loved that. He gave our Claire an image of St. Clare when she was baptized along with a San Damiano cross.

We also ate amazing food every single day chased with caffè (espresso.) I forgot to take a single picture of my food, or my tiny cups of coffee while we were in Assisi. I did get a photo of this beautiful bowl I bought for my daughter, Megan, for her wedding present.

I bought her bowl from I Due Soli, which was on one of the three main streets in the old town of Assisi. What a wonderful shop it was! As an aside, Italians are mad for Trip Advisor and use it all the time. It was easy to track down the shop on Trip Advisor’s website. If you go there, ask for Ricardo. He speaks beautiful English and is very helpful. I think this ceramics company is in its third generation.

I hope I haven’t bored you with my pilgrimage/travelogue so far. We loved Assisi and look forward to visiting again. When I get a moment, I’ll also share about Orvieto and Rome, among other places. As for gardening, we received two inches of rain last night. The weeds are quite happy and growing.
