3 & 18!
Oooooh thank you friend!
3. What is that one scene that you’ve always wanted to write but can’t be arsed to write all of the set-up and context it would need? (consider this permission to write it and/or share it anyway)
I kind of have the opposite, which is a GREAT introduction that I honestly can't be bothered with the follow-through on. Honestly I just wanted to write the joke my spouse made while we were watching the film into a fic lol. So have that! Maybe I'll write it one day, maybe I won't.
“Do you think I could make you come without touching you?” The question is not, in itself, shocking. Henry likes talking about sex; it’s something Alex has grown used to, learned to appreciate over time. He certainly can’t argue with the results of Henry’s desire to over-analyse each stray thought and fantasy either of them has, fucking workshopping them into the most incendiary thing the two of them have done together until the inevitable next thing comes along. No, the surprising part of the question is that he asks it now, when they’re sitting side by side on the couch, Henry’s nose buried in Sense & Sensibility while Alex battles his way through the last of his class reading for the night. Henry isn’t even looking at him. “I…” Alex hesitates, really thinking about it. Because it’s the fundamental truth of the universe: Alex’s body is singularly attuned to Henry, has been ever since Henry pressed him back into his mattress in the White House and gave him the supreme head of the Church of England and rewrote Alex’s understanding of himself. Sure, if Henry told him to come right now, with no work up and no warning, he probably couldn’t, though he’s pretty sure his dick would give it a valiant effort anyway. But laid out on their bed, maybe tied up, with Henry pouring a litany of filth and praise into his ears? “Yeah, probably.” “Hmm. All right,” Henry says, and then he just— Turns the page.
18. Do any of your stories have alternative versions? (plotlines that you abandoned, AUs of your own work, different characterisations?) Tell us about them.
Okay I know you haven't read the Much Ado actor AU yet, so I won't go into that one! But one day I totally will lol.
But! Wander Where They Will (swans fic my beloved) originally had the fake/arranged marriage between David and Stevie! Which would have been such a fun subversion of the usual trope, but then I ran up against a deadline and wrote 12k of it in one day and had to streamline the fuck out of the love story lmao. So it wound up where it wound up, but I still wanna see more fake dating/marriage between people who AREN'T endgame. Fucking with tropes is something I deeply enjoy.

74 You’ve posted a fic anonymously. How would someone be able to guess that you’d written it?
Ah, you are the best! I think I'll have to answer these under a cut after the first one. It's my only mail, so I'll answer all :D
Asks are from this link
6, 9, 23, 24, 29, 40, 70 and 74 finished (74 & 40 are the same above, but 40 is different on the ask). Asks still open if anyone wants to play!
6 Do you have your work beta'd? How important is this to your process?
No, except if it's a piece I really want to get right. For example, a story based on artwork, or for a gift exchange, etc. Sometimes I get friend sto beta fics for zines, etc., even if there is a writing mod. For anything submitted professionally anywhere, creative or non-fiction, I highly recommend getting a second pair of eyes on the work.
9 Do you comment on stories you read?
Not all, but a fair number, yes.
23 Best writing advice for other writers?
You can't edit anything if you don't have anything on the page. Write out of order. Write through your blocks. There is no such thing as a filler chapter. If the chapter is boring for you, it's boring for others. If you work on why you think that particular passage, etc., is boring, you'll figure it out, and have a passage that you'll probably end up loving. Your first draft is a draft, so don't treat it as if it should be a finished piece of work or you'll get nowhere.
24 Worst writing advice anyone ever gave you?
I don't think I've ever received any. Everything in moderation. Take note that guides are talking generally, not specifically.
29 What’s your revision or editing process like?
Time-consuming. I write down whatever's burning at the back of my brain, even if it doesn't make much sense. It will find its place eventually. I try to get the whole fic out (if it's a one shot) as much as I can, and then go back and edit. Because time is a thing, this means that I can be editing the fic before it's a whole draft, though, thereby contradicting my advice above.
If it's a multi-chapter and there's an idea and notion that you love but it's out of sequence, write it. I feel that you'll lose your passion for that scene if you don't, although not everyone will agree with me. There comes a point in your editing process with a multi-chap where you need an outline. Even if it's very vague, it lets you know where you're going and what you have and haven't done.
Write placeholders where there are obvious weaknesses or you don't have the time to write the piece out yet. For example:
"Blah, blah, blah," he said. [insert action] <<-- being the placeholder.
I do regret fics that I put out before they're ready cos I spend all my time getting them up to speed on AO3 instead of in my documents. But even if I'm happy, there's still stuff to edit!
40 If someone were to make fanart of your work, what fic or scene would you hope to see? (I know it says differently above, but 74 & 40 are the same on this Ask, but not in the original).
A friend said they were really trying to get a scene from screen/shiki-e where Law, Marco and Chopper are by the river, and Chopper is fishing cherry blossom petals out of the water with Law's hat. I think that was the scene they were mentioning. They said it was difficult to draw, but it'd be great to see that come to life. Possibly from Bioluminescence where Hakugan is floating in the deep, and Ikkaku's photograph floats by him, and a very colourful jellyfish.
Any art is a blessing, really! Whatever tickles the artist's fancy.
74 You’ve posted a fic anonymously. How would someone be able to guess that you’d written it?
I don't really hide my writing style or the darker themes that I write, so it's pretty easy to guess my anon fics. They're anon maybe cos' I think a lot of subscribers subscribe to me for the G-T rated work now, perhaps. Or perhaps the themes are a bit too rough for me at times too.
70 When asked, are you embarrassed or enthusiastic to tell people that you write? Fanfiction? No-one really knows other than tumblrites and other fandom folk. I'm happy to tell them, cos we're all doing the same kind of thing.

BBU Community Days 2024! In April!
Tumblr media
Thank you, BBU community, for existing! To celebrate this community and our shared universe, I'll host a second instance of the BBU Community Days.
The event is open to everyone who enjoys the BBU. You don't have to be a writer or a long time participant, or anything, it's enough to just be someone who is fascinated by the universe! There's also no need to fill in all the prompts; no completionist badge will be awarded. The only "rule" is: if you want to boost your own content, please always boost someone else's too.
This year's prompts are in parts similar to last year's, some even stayed the same due to their success and popularity. Looking forward to seeing your new takes to it.
[Rules]
All prompts and a transcript of the image can be found under the cut as well.
April 14 / Community Prompt: (Re)Introduction / (Re-) Introduce yourself and give a little overview about your BBU writing / creations, favorite tropes, and the like.
April 15 / Worldbuilding Prompt: Questions (and Polls!) / What's an open question you've always asked yourself about the BBU?
April 16 / Writing Prompt: "RULES" / Write a BBU story based on the one-word-prompt and share it!
April 17 / Showcasing Prompt: Boxies / Talk about your current favorite boxie OCs (one of your own, one or more by someone else) with commentary on what makes them special to you!
April 18 / Creation Prompt: Memes & Prompts / Create a BBU meme (that would work in-universe or as a meta commentary - your call!), or curate a little BBU prompt list to inspire fellow writers, artists or roleplayers!
April 19 / Community Prompt: Favorites New & Old / Talk about the writers, characters or stories that most inspired your BBU journey - and if possible include a "new" favorite that you discovered (or that has only been been written) after last year’s event!
April 20 / Worldbuilding Prompt: Inspiration / What's an idea about the BBU worldbuilding that particularly inspires you, be it to daydream or to write?
April 21 / Writing Prompt: "OUTSIDE" / Write a BBU story based on the one-word-prompt and share it!
April 22 / Showcasing Prompt: Handlers or Owners / Talk about your current favorite BBU whumper OCs (one of your own, one or more by someone else) with commentary on what makes them special to you!
April 23 / Creation Prompt: In-Universe Media / Create a piece of media that could exist within the BBU!
April 24 / Community Prompt: Fanwork / Create a piece of fanwork (fanart, fanfic, moodboard, playlist…) for someone else’s BBU story, character, setting, pairing, or whatever inspires you about them!
April 25 / Worldbuilding Prompt: Archetypes / What’s a standard element of BBU worldbuilding you love to come back to in your own writing, and that makes you happy to see in others’? What are potential spins to it?
April 26 / Writing Prompt: "MADE FOR IT" / Write a BBU story based on the prompt and share it!
April 27 / Showcasing Prompt: Caretaker / Talk about your current favorite BBU caretaker OCs - be it pet lib activists, kind (?) owners, a boxie's loved ones... - (one of your own, one or more by someone else) with commentary on what makes them special to you!
April 28 / Creation Prompt: Collaboration / Create a piece of BBU content together with another community member!

Just a reminder for anyone new or anyone who has been lurking:
I know it’s difficult coming into a new fandom but everyone in the Gallavich fandom on tumblr is very friendly and kind, so don’t feel nervous - just jump in and say hi.
Make an intro post and check the #gallavichintro tag to find fellow fans!
Like seriously just send a message or reply to a post. We’re here to have fun, the idea of new people is great because it means more engagement.
When I say people are nice, I mean it. I’ve been in so many different fandoms over 20+ years and this is genuinely the kindest group of people I’ve ever encountered online in a fandom space.
Give your blog an icon. People tend to assume that ones without are spam blogs and may block immediately. Here are some great icons you can use with credit: here / here / here
If you’d like a Gallavich banner for your blog, send me a message - I’d be so happy to make you one! I’ve got ones free to use here / here.
Please don’t steal gifs and repost them, here’s a great post explaining why. And another one explaining the gif search function.
Reblog content you enjoy and write in the tags or reply to the post - how much you liked something or if you have other thoughts…..creators love to hear this!
Use the tags. They’re the best way to get your posts noticed if you’re new- #gallavich #ian gallagher #mickey milkovich #ianxmickey any or all of these will work. When you make a post, you should see a little grey box that says something like add tags to help people find your post, just type in there. (You don’t need to use the # symbol. Tumblr automatically does that.)
There are so many brilliant active communities that you can take part in - I’ve done a roundup post here & I will update it with new communities.
If you feel creative? Got for it. Don’t worry about what people think, just share your work. Write that fic or headcanon or meta, draw that art, create that gifset, design that aesthetic piece, share that playlist. Chances are that a lot of people will enjoy your work!
Don’t feel shy about promoting your work either - tag it with #gallavich & the tags mentioned above.
Recommend what you’ve enjoyed! There is no time limit on sharing links to fic, art, headcanons, gifsets, posts of any kind…..reblog/share what you love and keep sharing it. Whether it’s brand new or years old, sharing the work is great idea.
Go back and explore things. Older fics on ao3, gifsets and art from years past, moodboards and headcanons that are years old. None of these things have an expiration date. So reblog them, share them, let people experience them for the first time and allow people to enjoy them for the 2nd/3rd/4th time.
Comment!! It’s such an important thing to do in fandom. Whether it’s on new work or old work, whether you write long comments or just a keyboard smash and emojis - it’s great way to share love to creators, to support/encourage/inspire them and to get involved in fandom. Check out Ian and Mickey’s guide to commenting and other posts about commenting: here // here // here
Share your ideas. Whether it’s headcanons or meta or fics or art, share it. Feel free to explore your ideas. There’s always room for discussion, analysis and creativity.
If you see ask memes or tag games going around, take part! Or even reblog one of these games and tag some people you’d like to get to know better! Don’t feel intimidated, it’s always nice to be tagged.
Keeping reblogging posts. Not just once or twice but again and again. The queue is there for a reason. And each time you do? You’re sharing it with your dash.
Remember, pretty much everyone starts out as a lurker and when it comes to being creative - everyone starts at the beginning. Those writers and artists and creators that you are in awe of? They all started out at square one. Everyone practices and creates over and over again, that’s how it goes. The more you write or draw or create, the better you get. And fandom loves to see it.
Need ideas or inspiration? I’ve got lots and lots of prompts for you!
This is a relatively small-ish fandom but it’s active and there is nothing nicer than new people joining, so don’t hesitate - jump in. It’s so much fun and we’d love you to join us! 💖
If anyone has any tips or encouragement they’d like to share, please reply to this post! 💖
And if you have any questions about using tumblr, send me an ask!

I had fics that got taken down in the FFnet purge! Ancient! Marius is my favorite character and I'm more partial to Marius subplots/timelines. I'm also really into the Devil's Minion and Trinity Gate! I'm super into whatever the fuck was going on with Marius & Daniel! I could talk about Armand all fucking day! Pandora is my hero! Please expect posts about these things! I didn't love the AMC adaptation so I don't talk about it very often, because I try to focus on stuff I enjoy. ♡ TAGS

#vampire pajama party on amc - this is my tag for the AMC show; I'm not a big fan of it so please feel free to mute if you don't want to see salt posts. (I have a second, even saltier tag called #the rolin jonestown massacre if you want to mute that one as well!)
#devils minion girlies - STILL WORKING HARD TO POPULATE THIS TAG but if you like thinking about Armand & Daniel as lesbians please see this tag. #unethical marius - I've been really obsessed lately with thinking about an AU where Marius is an unethical therapist LOLLL please feel free to peruse or mute as needed. #vampire music - I have like a ND relationship to music and I love sharing it even if no one else cares and taste is subjective but if you ever want vampirey music recs they will be here :D #fandom lolitics - I try not to share too much discourse & drama but it's here if you want to mute it! #vcficfriday - when I have time & remember to I like to share fics I've read on Fridays!!!! Please feel free to use this tag in your own blog as well, to build up fic writers!
I THINK THAT COVERS IT, FELLAS, please be kind to each other and don't be shy to send me asks if you have any questions!

In January 2020, not long after her short story “I Sexually Identify as an Attack Helicopter” was published in the online science fiction magazine Clarkesworld, Fall asked her editor to take the story down, and then checked into a psychiatric ward for thoughts of self-harm and suicide. The story — and especially its title, which co-opts a transphobic meme — had provoked days of contentious debate online within the science fiction community, the trans community, and the community of people who worry that cancel culture has run amok. Because there was little biographical information available about its author, the debate hinged on one question: Who was Isabel Fall? And that question ate her alive. When she emerged from the hospital a few weeks later, the world had moved on, but she was still scarred by what had happened. She decided on something drastic: She would no longer be Isabel Fall. As a trans woman early in transition, Fall had the option of retreating to the relative safety of her legal, masculine identity. That’s what she did, staying out of the limelight and growing ever more frustrated by what had happened to her. She bristles when I ask her in an email if she’s stopped transitioning, but it’s the only phrase I can think of to describe how the situation appears. Isabel Fall was on a path to becoming herself, and then she wasn’t — and all because she published a short story. And then her life fell apart.

While we're waiting for Millie's shine in later episodes, how would you develop Millie and how would you write her?
PFFF uhh I expect we'll be waiting indefinitely tbh. But I guess the first step would be to ask a lot of questions and figure out which pieces are missing from the puzzle. Here's a list of what's on my mind about Millie, in no particular order:
In "The Harvest Moon Festival", she hugged her dad upon seeing him, but not her mom. Was she closer to her dad growing up? Why?
What first attracted her to knives and axes, and who taught her to use them as weapons?
What was her favorite job on the farm growing up?
Who was her first love?
How did she meet Blitzo and Moxxie?
What occupations did she have before joining IMP?
Does she ever hang out with anyone other than her coworkers and her husband? What are her friends like? How did they meet?
Does she want to have kids someday?
What's her educational background? If she went to college, which subject/s did she major in?
What hobbies does she have outside of killing people?
Millie's aggressive, violent side is emblematic of Wrath ring culture, but does she have any traits that clash with it?
What's her favorite location in all of Hell, and why?
Standard job interview fare: Where does she see herself in five years?
Why doesn't she ever stand up to Blitzo when he berates her husband? (I mean, in a meta sense, we know why, but what's the reason inside the narrative?)
What does her extended family look like? Do they all live in Wrath, or are they spread out across other rings?
What does she love most about Moxxie?
What did she and Moxxie do on their first date?
What's her most prized possession?
Most of these questions are fairly surface-level, like the kind of thing you'd ask someone you just met at a party. But the thing is, we've barely been introduced to Millie through this entire series. It'd help if she spent an episode or two away from Moxxie so we can see her personality as an individual rather than part of a set. These writers seem to think true love = being attached at the hip, but that's not how strong relationships work. You need a balance of the partners spending time together and having time to themselves. If a relationship leaves no room for independence, it'll get stifling pretty damn quick.
Maybe at some point, Millie gets burnt out from work and decides she needs a solo vacation for her mental health. This would separate her from Moxxie and provide an opportunity to glimpse parts of her life that don't revolve around him and IMP, as well as delve into the fractured mental state of a character who's usually a pillar of strength. To co-opt and rephrase a meme real quick: Everyone asks "What can Millie do for me?", not "How is Millie doing?"
Ideally, the whole episode would focus on her, with no B- or C-plots. She could meet her friends for coffee, or maybe visit extended family members. Perhaps learn some things about herself she never knew before. This all sounds very low-key and lacking in spectacle for this show, but any plot can crackle with deft storytelling. It'd be preferable if the episode answered multiple questions (not too many, but multiple) about the character at its center.
But when all's said and done, it seems the most important question is: What does this character currently struggle with the most? What do they want, and what's preventing them from getting it?
One major problem Millie and the other IMP employees have is that they don't seem to want anything. There's not much driving their actions.
Blitzo presumably wants his business to succeed, but what does that look like to him? What specific goal is he trying to reach? The Goetia family has a bit more direction: Stolas wants a deeper emotional connection with Blitzo (God only knows why, but that's what's presented to us), Octavia obviously wants her parents to stop fighting (though we have no idea how she plans to achieve this), and Stella wants Stolas dead (though she didn't think the consequences through, somehow) but everyone else is a big ol' question mark.
Anyway, that's just a basic overview of how I'd approach it.

There appears to be a conflict between those against the Hannigram ship and its supporters. Some individuals opposed to the ship are trying to convince people to leave the ship or the fandom altogether. If you've noticed people feeling uncertain about the relationship, do you have any advice for them? I've seen many posts expressing confusion on my feed.
I think the best defense is just to watch the show a lot. Someone told me (IDK if this is true, I'm not in a position to judge) that their impression of new fans is that they watch the show, get excited, go to Reddit which has like 75,000 members, and there through pinned metas that are heavily biased toward the dark! Will Graham view of Hannigram, and they let those biases dictate their understanding of the show. Then everything gets one-sided, people who don't agree get frustrated, and then people get driven out of those spaces, and they end up here having the same facile discourse that they were having there.
IDK. Sometimes people just need to put down other people's opinions and go back to the source material, and remember why it was that they loved it, and to forget all the noise. The fandom also has a lot to offer besides discourse: there's memes and gifsets and fanfic and fanart, and if you ask three meta writers their opinions on things, you'll get four different interpretations.
And if that nuance isn't happening, then maybe they're asking the wrong people.
So let's just remind people that the loudest voices aren't always the most insightful or even the most popular. And there can be enjoyment in reading multiple opinions before you form your own.

hello love, R for the alphabet writer asks pretty please? 💖
rae 💜
using this ask to apologise in advance to everyone and anyone but i really felt like doing an ask game so here i am, on your dash.
R: Which writers (fanfic or otherwise) do you consider the biggest influence on you and your writing?
typically, my sources of inspiration include: things i overhear on the train in the morning, internet memes and rogue things that happen to me that i swear would ONLY happen to me. but although i take inspiration from many sources, influence is a different question?
when i started writing fic again, i was deep in the 2021 rwrb obsession and i think my writing was heavily influenced by the work i was literally INHALING at that time.
i think first and foremost i took so much inspiration from @clottedcreamfudge. I mean we all know CCF has depth, but the slightly ridiculous edge to some of her fics felt so on brand for me, and i think reading a lot of the CCF archive taught me to lean into that. the witty dialogue, the pacing, the clever use of side characters to build the story - nailing that is my writing dream.
i feel very inspired when i read any @indomitable-love work because the amount of care and precision written into basically every line of siobhan's fic is incredible. reading ATG was a masterclass in how to take characterisation to another level, and how to build an emotional arc that is hard hitting and makes sense. i had so many 'oh, that really ticked all the emotional boxes for me' moments in that fic. it is truly a treasure.
as we know, i didn't write smut pre-2021. i truly didn't even READ smut. who knows why? anyway i was so convinced i could never write it, UNTIL i read the great works of our lord and saviour aka. you aka. Ms. Rae Rmd-writes Railmedaddy. The ficspiration of the neighbours fic took me out and made me realise like hey...there is actually a lot of skill to this and maybe i could? learn it? and i'm still on that learning journey but i think the think about your E rated scenes is that you weave so much emotion into them - there's a purpose to every smut scene, even if it's a PWP it's driving characterisation in some way. which makes it all very intentional. i find that very inspiring.
i also have to credit @everwitch-magiks for inspiring me every day to be more intentional with my word choice and edit better and WRITE LESS because the amount of stuff evie can pack into a 3k fic is honestly out of this world. but long before i became a ridiculous overwriter, i have been inspired by evie's characterisation (her alex always sounds so perfect to me, in particular) AND her creativity. there are canon fics and then she goes and writes a space AU and also a figure skating AU and magical realism and hashtag soulmates aka. the most beautifully meta thing ever, and a whole fic based around AITA? she has breadth and it makes me kind of mad.
ANYWAY. there are many more but i've already gone on for too long! thank you to everyone who creates stuff for me to read, i know i'm picking up things all the time, and it wouldn't happen if people weren't so damn talented 💜

first up: "It's been really, really funny seeing the reactions of the Schitt's Creek folks who were there for the last fic I deemed 'angstapalooza' at the knowledge that another multi-chapter work has earned that moniker lol" it's ME 😂😂😂
as for the meta asks:
14. At what point in writing do you come up with a title?
19. Is there something you always find yourself repeating in your writing? (favourite verb, something you describe ‘too often’, trope you can’t get enough of?)
25. What part of writing is the most fun?
Lmaoooooo it is, indeed, you. Though you're not the only one 🤣 A fun fact is that when I say "it's angstapalooza RWRB edition" I'm talking less about the plot and more about the fact that it, once again, has a fic title and all chapter titles from one song on Matt Nathanson's Show Me Your Fangs album. Because I am nothing if not on brand.
14. At what point in writing do you come up with a title?
It's pretty 50/50 on whether I come up with something pretty much as soon as I have the idea, or once I'm completely done. It's almost never during the process. Of the 25 docs in my WIP folder right now (haha fuck my life) 11 of them have actual titles and 14 have placeholder descriptors.
19. Is there something you always find yourself repeating in your writing? (favourite verb, something you describe ‘too often’, trope you can’t get enough of?)
I used to use the phrase "anticipatory impatience" with alarming regularity, and then I had to podfic it for The Blouse Barn Divorce Ranch and was immediately like "this is the worst phrase ever and I will never use it again." I've described Patrick's feelings epiphany as "realising his feelings for David ran deeper than an admiration for his business model" or something similar more than once.
I dunno, is Filthy Smut But Make It Tender a trope? Because I often half-joke that the most romantic thing I've ever written was a fisting fic. I just... love writing about trust and love and connection via smut.
25. What part of writing is the most fun?
That part when the thing you can imagine in your head makes its way onto the page exactly as you imagined it. So fucking exciting. But also, as someone whose love language is being cursed out, anytime I can force people to feel their feelings so hard they yell at me about it is deeply enjoyable for me.

Fanfic writer ask meme: J, S, T
J:  What’s your favorite fanfic trope?  Have you written it?
I don't know if it's a trope but it's a tag. Emotional hurt/comfort. Which I used to not tag separately from hurt/comfort. Just something about pain being recognized, people coming together, learning, growing, helping each other. Probably comes from a childhood of hidden trauma. 😅
S: How do you feel about fan art inspired by your writing
Yes please? Fan-art. Translations. Re-imagining, you name it. Knowing you've inspired someone else, made them feel strongly enough to create, that's amazing.
T: Any fanfic tropes you can’t stand?
Probably several, but let'so with the biggest.
Saaaaaallllllllttttt. I can't stand salt fics. They're such a lazy negative mess. Like just imagine the level of bile you have to have to invest yourself in a years long art project just to mock your titular character?
That isn't to say you can't write villain arcs for prople. Take Alya Cesaire, one of the biggest salt-fic targets. If you *want* to write her being a villain then *earn* it. Show me a proper descent based on her own traits and circumstances, don't just 'dur hur she bad' because the canon narrative did something you don't like, or you want to smash a ship together.
It's no secret the disdain I have for Thomas Astruc, yet when I used his self-insert as a villain for a fic, even at the most meta point in the fic, the characters still treated him with the same respect everyone gets in the show. The focus was still on learning, hope, and growth. Isn't that just *better?*
Salt-fics that flatten or discount a character's context suck just as much. Chloé gets a loy of that. The self righteous 'it's no excuse' from people who have no idea.

BBU Community Days
Tumblr media
[Image description: A visual representation of the prompt list following in this post]
Here it is - the official prompt list for the very first BBU community days!
The event is open for BBU writers, roleplayers, or plain enjoyers of that world. If you wonder if you're "allowed" to take part, yes, you are. Includes BBU AUs and "BBU-adjacent" universes.
All prompts are suggestions, there's no reward for completionists and no need to do them all - this event is a success if it allows any of you to find and connect with other creators and to make new friends.
Looking forward!!
Rules and prompt descriptions under the cut
The prompts are structured in "days", but you can do them at any time; they'll be reblogged during the event duration.
This blog @bbu-on-the-side will do its best to reblog what you either @ this blog in or#bbucommunity! Please also #day1, #day2... according to the prompt you chose.
One overall thing I'll be strict about is to indicate any nsfw content. This sort of content is welcome in this event, but readers should be able to make an informed decision if they want to click on that read more or not.
Community prompts
* {Day 1: Introduction} Introduce yourself and give a little overview about your BBU writing / creations. If you want, this is the moment to advertise yourself!
* {Day 6: Inspiration} How did you find the BBU, and how did you go down the rabbit hole? Are there any particular writers, characters or stories that inspired your journey?
* {Day 11: Exploration} Is there a premise you like to follow in BBU settings? A focus on a specific character dynamic that you want to explore deeply? Themes that resonate with you? What drew you to BBU, and what made you stay?
Worldbuilding prompts
* {Day 2: Questions} What's an open question you've always asked yourself about the BBU? Ask it, and see if other writers have found answers to it!
* {Day 7: Details} What's a detail of BBU worldbuilding you always wanted to dive into? (Newly emerging professions, legal aspects, pet fashion, economic side effects, societal aspects, facility workplace ethic, history, safehouse organisation, deconditioning…) Do it now, and ramble a bit!
* {Day 12: Decisions} What is something special about your setting (be it BBU or adjacent)? Does it differ from the "standard"? In what way does this decision influence the story you're telling?
Writing prompts
* {Day 3} Discipline
* {Day 8} Barcode
* {Day 13} Safety
Showcasing prompts
* {Day 4: Facility} Make a post linking a favorite facility / training piece (one by you, one by someone else) with commentary on what makes these ones special to you
* {Day 9: Owner} Make a post linking a favorite piece during captivity / time with owner (one by you, one by someone else) with commentary on what makes these ones special to you
* {Day 14: Recovery} Make a post linking a favorite recovery piece (one by you, one by someone else) with commentary what makes these ones special to you
Creation prompts
* {Day 5: Meme/Prompts} Create a BBU meme (that would work in-universe or as a meta commentary - your call!), or curate a little BBU prompt list to inspire fellow writers, artists or roleplayes!
* {Day 10: In-BBU-media} Create a piece of media that could exist within the BBU - everything from twitter post to newspaper feature to ad transcript to WRU press release! Pet lib call for action to desperate owner self help reddit thread. Go wild!
* {Day 15: Collaboration} Create any piece of BBU content together with another community member! Could be a crossover scene with both your characters, a collaboratively developed concept, an illustration to their story, an RP, … Anything goes, as long as you worked together within the BBU!

FiaExu
What I like the most about it: The potential for the two of them to bond over their mistreatment at the hands of Laterano. Being unable to connect with the Sankta empathy means both of them get the short end of the stick from their countrymen, whether it be in the form of active bullying or simply having their concerns and feelings and opinions dismissed. Between that and their love of intricate firearms, there's a lot of common ground for them to build a relationship on.
Also there's this really great fic called Night Running that really put this pairing on the map. You should read it sometime.
What I like the least about it: The color scheme. Red/black/white is a fine color palette in and of itself, but it's applied to both characters in very similar ways and makes their designs feel kind of same-y in a manner I don't feel is the case for some of their more popular ships.
NearlDoc
What I like the most about it: Probably the depth and intensity of their care and regard for each other, as evidenced by Nearl's talk lines, as well as the way they play so readily into a knight/lord-or-lady dynamic that doc puts their own spin on by being a sneaky devious little gremlin. They serve as great foils for each other - both are deeply compassionate and intelligent people who devote themselves to making the world a better place for those it treats least kindly and serve to inspire those around them, but Nearl is very forthright and direct, preferring to confront problems head-on and ideally on the field of battle, relying on her combat prowess and the strength of her convictions more so than craftiness and guile to carry the day, whereas Doc is frail and limited in a direct physical confrontation, but is adept at long-term planning and political maneuvering. They compliment each other's strengths and cover each other's weaknesses very well.
What I like the least about it: It hasn't been officially confirmed canon yet I'll actually give you a few answers.
First off, I haven't exactly been reticent about expressing my displeasure at the handling of Nearl's storyline, especially the way the writers chose to have her stay in Kazimierz. Sure, it gives us the opportunity for some Hopelessly Romantic Pining, but I still don't much care for it, and it feels like a bit of a step backward after all the other work done with her character and the Kazimierz storyline. I'll be honest, Arknights didn't really stick the landing with the Kazimierz stories in general, given the way the writers screwed over both Margaret and Maria at the conclusion of their events.
Second off, it falls prey to the same meta issues of every other Doc x Female Operator ship, namely that on one side you have a bunch of stupid chodes who throw Korean-incel-level tantrums if Nearl is portrayed as literally anything other than GigaChad Doctor's one-note cocksleeve whose one or two personality traits besides being Horny For Doctor's Big Manly Penis come from shitty memes the fandom ran into the ground years ago, and on the other side you have a bunch of equally-stupid chodes who get their panties in a twist if you ship her with anything other than her Fandom-Approved Lesbian Lover. At no point will either group pay any attention to her actual textual characterization or relationships or contribute anything of value to the fandom besides porn.
Third off, I think that Nearl simply doesn't fit within the kind of topics that Arknights likes using the Doctor to explore or mesh well with the storylines that Arknights wants its core cast to participate in. She's too ideologically pure for the sort of morally gray horrors of war story Arknights wants the second arc of the main story to be, and while there's certainly a lot to explore within the context if a character like that being placed within that sort of scenario, it feels redundant when they're already doing something similar with multiple other characters, and not succeeding overly well in my opinion.
TexLapp
What I like the most about it: The complicated nature of their relationship and what they represent to each other. It's not just Cool Girl And Yandere, there's actually a lot of exploration of how Siracusa and its culture has affected both of them and how they deal with the lasting scars. It's fucked up and messy and there's so much to sink your teeth into - trauma, obsession, power, freedom, obligation, and so on, all wrapped up in an extremely homoerotic rivalry.
What I like the least about it: The way people reduce it to one-dimensional uwu toxic yuri without acknowledging the complexities or selling points of either character or treating them like actual individuals instead of components of a ship.
Gavial x Tomimi
What I like most about it: They're so fucking funny together. Neither of them is stupid, they're both very capable and intelligent women, but whenever the stakes are sufficiently low, they turn off their brains and solve all problems with the power of Looney Toons shenanigans. Inam has the one brain cell in the entire Sargonian rainforest and it's working overtime to keep all the other residents out of trouble.
Idk, I just really appreciate the lighthearted aspects of the Gavial events and their cast in a story that tends to be very dark and heavy.
What I like the least about it: Besides the fandom obsession with treating them as the funny lesbian crocs and reducing them to the components of the ship instead of actual characters (are you sensing a theme here?), I'd have to say it's that I find it physically impossible to be horny for Tomimi. I don't know how you're supposed to have sex with her. Her tail just gets in the way in every position. You can't even do her doggy because you smack her ass and she knocks you out cold with the big slappy. One moment you're finally all the way inside her and the next you're in the med wing undergoing concussion protocol administered by a very disappointed Kal'tsit and a Gavial who can barely control her laughter.
(I guess you can try to have Tomimi top, but I'm pretty sure she'd have a mental breakdown if anyone asked her to strap them)

for the choose violence ask game: 7, 8, 13 and 25 for dragon age
🔥 choose violence ask game 🔥
7. what character did you begin to hate not because of canon but because how how the fandom acts about them?
I'm honestly hard-pressed to think of a Dragon Age character that I truly hate. Most of my feelings range from love to indifference, probably because both the cast and the fandom are big enough that characters I'm not drawn to are easy enough to ignore.
So I do not hate Anders, I actually like him a lot as a character, but I do find a lot of the discourse around him very frustrating (and this is more complicated than whether I think he was right or wrong, for anyone about to jump to conclusions on that; if you really want to know, you can probably figure it out from various meta I've written), and thus I am very wary of engaging with it, and there's a certain flavor of Anders fandom that I just steer clear of when I see it.
8. common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about
In order for everyone to be wrong about something, everyone in the fandom would have to agree on something, and we all know that's impossible in this fandom. 😆 Okay no, I'll try to give some kind of answer to this, for very loose values of "everyone."
"The ending of DA2 both-sideses the choice between the mages and the templars." It really does not. It's very explicit about how incredibly unjust the annulment is, to the point that the game draws a strong distinction even between agreeing with Anders and defending the mages; Hawke can completely condemn what Anders did and kill him for it and still defend the mages. The game goes out of its way to point out to you that the Circle mages had nothing to do with the attack on the Chantry and that Meredith is just using it as an excuse to kill them. It's one of the least subtle portrayals of Circle atrocities in the series, even if a lot of the political details of Kirkwall and Meredith and Elthina are easier to miss. The game giving us a choice does not in itself mean it's drawing a moral equivalent between those choices. I think you can make a case for the games doing that elsewhere, but not here. DA2's ending is about as subtle as an explosion.
13. worst blorboficiation
I'm having to guess a bit what "blorbofication" means in this context, but given that the origin of "blorbo" is a meme about fans who see their fave in everything regardless of how well it actually applies, thus reducing the character to a generic blob of a person... I guess I'll go with Alistair. Part of it is just that he's been around a long time, so there's years of different fan interpretations and discourse to all sort of mush together about him, and I've definitely seen interpretations of Alistair that I felt like excised a lot of the messier aspects of his character. (He is for example more critical of the Chantry than he's often given credit for, and on the other hand he's also the guy who makes a remark about if you're going to get jumped when you walk into the alienage.)
25. common fandom complaint that you're sick of hearing
"The writers were lazy/stupid for using a cipher for Elvish and not making a fully functional conlang for an RPG they didn't even know for sure would get a sequel, never mind a full series." (Strangely it's only the elven language that I see people say should have been a full conlang when you'd think if that's the argument, surely they should have done the same for Dwarven and Qunlat as well? which becomes even more of a massive, unweildy, unrealistic project for a single video game.)
And basically, anything else that's just... wildly out of touch with the reality of how video games are made.
