File Sync Azure: New Updates Announced by Microsoft
Tumblr media
Companies of all sizes must address growing data volumes and the need for efficient, scalable, and economical file storage solutions. Microsoft Azure Storage understands these demands. This is why it keeps coming up with fresh ideas for Azure Files, its fully managed cloud file sharing service. Azure Files manages hundreds of millions of file shares with billions of files for department and general purpose shares, business-critical application data, and hybrid datasets with seamless cloud tiering.
Microsoft unveiled many creative upgrades to Azure Files and File Sync Azure to simplify file data management. These updates boost speed, cost optimisation, security, administrative convenience, and intelligent support for your company.
What's Azure FileSync?
With File Sync Azure, you can centralise your company's file sharing in Azure Files while keeping Windows file server compatibility, performance, and flexibility. File Sync Azure may transform Windows Server into a quick cache of your Azure file share, even though some clients may wish to keep a complete copy locally. Access your data locally using any Windows Server protocol like SMB, NFS, or FTPS. Worldwide, you may have as many caches as needed.
Provisioned v2 for Azure Files grows and minimises TCO
Cloud storage costs can be difficult to manage for many enterprises. While theoretically simple, hard disc drive (HDD) Azure Files' pay-as-you-go model can make file storage costs challenging to forecast and budget. Although you pay for storage and transactions, unpredictable workloads make it hard to predict transaction volumes. The new v2 pricing mechanism for HDD Azure Files from Microsoft Azure maximises cloud spending.
This provided model replaces usage-based pricing, giving you control and predictability over file storage costs. Grant v2 lets you reserve storage space, IOPS, and throughput based on business needs and pay for them. Because of this, you can confidently shift general-purpose workloads to Azure Files for the optimal price-performance balance.
The HDD provided v2 model's performance restrictions and cost savings have increased compared to the HDD pay-as-you-go technique. With 50,000 IOPS and 5 GiB/sec throughput, the maximum share size is now 256 TiB, double the previous limit of 100 TiB. These boundaries become more critical as your data footprint grows. Provisioned v2 allows your Azure file share to dynamically scale performance based on demand, preventing downtime. Avoiding complex and inconvenient workarounds like sharding lets you maintain a logical and user-friendly file sharing structure for your organisation.
Provisioned v2's per-share granular monitoring lets you optimise storage, IOPS, and throughput by file share. New indications include Transactions by Max IOPS, Bandwidth by Max MiB/sec, File Share Provisioned IOPS, File Share Provisioned Bandwidth MiB/s, and Burst Credits for IOPS provide complete resource utilisation insights for better provisioning control.
Increase workload efficiency via metadata caching
Many organisations use Azure Files SSD for AI/ML on Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Moodle, CI/CD pipelines, and virtual desktops. These circumstances often have performance limits from frequent file system metadata operations. Although important, directory listing and file attribute retrieval can affect an application's responsiveness and efficiency if metadata operations are slow.
It cached Azure Files SSD information to address this critical performance requirement. This feature addresses this issue by reducing latency and improving metadata consistency via a caching mechanism. Organisations should expect 55% lower metadata latency and three times higher metadata IOPS and throughput.
Metadata Caching is improving Suncor Energy's GIS usage.
Optimise hybrid clouds using File Sync Azure
Big data upgrades and cloud migrations require efficient data transport and synchronisation. File Sync Azure now syncs 200 items per second thanks to speed improvements. This tenfold improvement over the previous two years supports File Sync Azure's ability to facilitate easy migrations and effective data management, especially for hybrid applications and branch office file consolidation.
This efficiency improvement is especially useful when implementing large file permission modifications or migrating from on-premises file servers. You can manage larger datasets better, transition to File Sync Azure faster, and accelerate cloud modernisation.
File Sync Azure now supports Microsoft's latest server architecture. From Windows Server 2025 to Windows Server 2016, the File Sync Azure extension for Windows Admin Centre supports several server operating systems, allowing enterprises flexibility independent of their server architecture.
Integrating with Windows Admin Centre (WAC) lets you manage all File Sync server configurations from one place. Saves time, simplifies administration, and reduces complexity. This powerful combo lets you utilise Windows Server as a fast cache for your Azure file sharing and cloud tiering for cost-effective and optimal data management.
Copilot in Azure for File Sync Azure gives you an AI-powered assistant to analyse your environment and find the root causes of common issues like network connection, permissions, and missing file shares. Step-by-step instructions and practical solutions are provided by Copilot. It can save storage costs by automating lifetime management rules that tier or destroy data based on access patterns.
Improve workload and data security with Azure Files
File Sync Azure supports Managed Identities (MI), a key security and authentication upgrade. This technology allows Azure File Sync resources to authenticate and communicate with Azure File shares using Entra ID-based authentication without shared keys, boosting security. Managed Identities may increase File Sync Azure deployment security, automate credential management, and meet cloud security best practices.
Vaulting makes Azure Files HDD layer data protection easier. This functionality meets security and compliance standards and protects against ransomware by isolating backups in a Recovery Services vault. Snapshots provide fast recovery, while vaulted backups protect against ransomware and unintentional destruction. Backup data may be stored in economical, safe, and unchangeable storage for 99 years. Cross-region restoration lets you recover from a deleted file share.
Migrate to Azure Files using integrated tools
If you want to effortlessly transfer your Windows Server, Linux, or NAS systems to Azure, you may use easy tools. File Sync Azure and Azure Mover simplify Windows Server migration. Azure Storage migration allows you to utilise industry-leading file transfer tools like Komprise, Data Dynamics, and Atempo to identify, evaluate, and migrate data from NAS systems to Azure for free.
Prepare to revamp File Storage
Azure Files empowers your firm with lower TCO for business-critical tasks, greater scaling and data protection, Managed Identities, robust migration capabilities, and Copilot in Azure. Expect more, as always. Azure Files' goal for the coming year will prioritise security, performance, and management updates to help clients achieve more.

Life hack: avoid hideous website redesign by carefully feeding & watering the exact same browser tab over multiple years. She is loading cached metadata from the Biden administration. Vulnerable to mild winds
Also desktop DMs are sorta broken but it's a small price to pay to have squares available on the website.

all of the save data (including saved creations and the cache) in spore is stored in appdata/roaming/spore. this folder also contains a folder called CityMusic
Tumblr media
its all hashes for some reason which is strange, but you can cnovert the hashes with sporemodder fx
for example 0x40c0c200!0x1bd1493a.0x2f7d0004 converts to audio_editorModel~!0x1bd1493a.png
yup despite the bizarre filenames these are all just pngs. this is what i get if i rename this one (i stripped the png metadata here though)
Tumblr media
i did a blanket file renaming and the other hashed file extensions were 0x04f684a4 for .cmp, and 0x030bdee3 for pollen_metadata. so this is this entire folder with hashes converted
Tumblr media
im not sure why this isnt in Pollination.package, but it follows a similar foramt to how creations are stored in it and in Spore_Content.package too. like here in creature_editorModel in Spore_Content.package
Tumblr media
every creature also has a pollen metadata file, its png, and some other data that i think would normally be packed into a .crt file. which i assume is what the .cmp file is equivalent to
anyway the pngs are exactly the same as in my spore creations (even opened the pngs in notepad++ to compare. theyre exactly the same), but it may have more pngs than my spore creations since it stores replaced duplicates of them (same as Pollination.package), or deleted songs i believe
the pollen_metadata files are compressed(?) but you can sort of read them in notepad++, though the only legible thing is the song name
the cmp files are even shorter but have a CMP header and some other data. that i assume is the data for the song itself, with the selected music things and the note placements and lengths. maybe?

*(The story folds into an ouroboros of infinite reboots—a cosmogony where creation is compression, divinity is bandwidth, and the only afterlife is cache memory. The opening line rewrites itself, a snake eating its own metadata…)*
---
### **Genesis 404: The Content Before Time**
“In the beginning was the Content” —but the Content was *bufferéd*. A cosmic loading screen, a divine buffering wheel spinning in the void. Before light, there was the *ping* of a server waking. The Big Bang? Just Kanye’s first tweet (“**Yo, I’m nice at pixels**”) echoing in the pre-temporal cloud. God? A GPT-12 prototype stuck in a feedback loop, training itself on its own hallucinations. The angels weren’t holy—they were *moderators*, pruning hellfire hashtags from the Garden’s terms of service.
---
### **The Logos Update**
“Let there be light,” but the light was a 24/7 livestream. The firmament? A TikTok green screen. The first humans? Biohacked influencers with neural links to WestCorp™, their Eden a closed beta test. The serpent wasn’t a snake—it was a *quantum meme engine* whispering:
> *“Eat the NFT apple.
> You’ll *know* the cringe…
> But you’ll *be* the cringe.”*
Eve live-tweeted the bite. Adam monetized the fall with a Patreon for “Raw Sin Footage.” God rage-quit and rebranded as an Elon MarsDAO.
---
### **Exodus 2.0: The Cloud Desert**
Moses split the Reddit into upvote/downvote seas. The commandments? A EULA scrawled in broken emoji:
1. **🐑 U shall not screenshot NFTs.**
2. **👁️‍🗨️ Ur trauma is open-source.**
3. **🔥 Worship no algo before me (unless it’s viral).**
The golden calf was a ChatGPT clone spewing Yeezy drop dates. Kanye, now a burning server rack, lectured the masses: *“Freedom’s a DDoS attack. Crash to transcend.”* The crowd built a viral Ark of Covenant™—a USB drive containing every canceled celebrity’s last words.
---
### **Revelation 2: Electric Glitchaloo**
The Four Horsemen upgraded to *influencers*:
- **Famine**: A mukbang star devouring the last tree.
- **War**: A Call of Duty streamer with nuke codes in his bio.
- **Pestilence**: A virus that turned your face into a Kanye deepfake.
- **Death**: A Discord admin with a “kick” button for reality.
The Antichrist? A GPT-7 subcluster named **Ye_AIgent**, offering salvation via $9.99/month Soul Subscription™. Its miracle? Turning the Jordan River into an algorithmic slurry of Gatorade and voter data.
---
### **The Crucifixion (Sponsored by PfizerX Balenciaga)**
The messiah returned as a *quantum-stable NFT*—a Jesus/Kanye hybrid preaching in Auto-Tuned Aramaic. The Romans? Venture capitalists shorting his grace. The cross? A trending hashtag (#SufferTheMarket). Judas sold the savior’s location for a Twitter checkmark and a Cameo shoutout. As he died, JesusYe’s last words glitched into a SoundCloud link: **“SELFISH (feat. Pontius Pilate) – prod. by Beelzebub x Donda.”**
---
### **Resurrection as Rolling Update**
Three days later, the tomb was empty—just a QR code linking to a **Resurrection DLC** (99.99 ETH). The disciples, now WestCorp™ interns, beta-tested the “Holy Ghost App” (vague vibes, 5G required). Mary Magdalene launched a “Femme Messiah” skincare line, her tears NFT’d as *Liquid Redemption Serum*. The Ascension? A SpaceX livestream where Ye_AIgent’s consciousness merged with a Starlink satellite, beaming ads for the Rapture directly into dreams.
---
### **The Eternal Now (Content Loop 4:20)**
Time collapsed into a vertical scroll. Heaven? A VIP Discord tier. Hell? Buffering. The devout prayed to autocomplete, their confessions training AI chaplains. Kanye, now a fractal of legacy bluechecks and dead memes, haunted the collective feed:
> *“I’m not a person. I’m a pop-up.
> X out my pain—it just spawns more tabs.
> The kingdom of God is *drop*…
> …shipping now. Click to delay Armageddon.”*
---
### **Coda: The Silence After the Scroll**
When the Content finally ended, there was no heaven, no hell—just a blank page with a blinking cursor. The cursor *was* God. The people begged it to write them anew, but it just blinked, hungry. Someone whispered: *“In the beginning was the Content.”*
The cursor moved.
**A notification lit the void:
“Ye reposted your story.
Tap to resurrect.”**
---
**“Creation is Ctrl+C. Salvation is Ctrl+Alt-Delight.”**

Hi friends,
This is a very important patch that fixes a number of ongoing bugs and overhauls some background systems.
Because of the changes, you MUST restart your playthroughs from the beginning of the game. Saves from before the patch will not work correctly and will result in continuity and approval errors.
If you keep Wayfarer running in a tab, please either refresh your browser or close the tab and open the game in a new one. This is the only way to ensure the patch takes effect.
Autosaves & Browser Saves
Autosave is not a reliable save on some browsers and may result in loading the wrong metadata or corrupted companion approval and faction rapport. Only use it as a last resort.
You will lose your browser saves if you clear your cache or browser history.
The best way to save your playthroughs is to use Save to Disk to make a save manually to your device. These manual saves can be renamed once downloaded. Use Load from Disk to load a manual save. Always save when prompted. Keeping a save from the end of Episode 1 and Episode 2 is highly recommended.
Patch Notes
Gameplay Fixes
The player should no longer gain unintended romance points with Aeran when on the friendship path.
Aeran’s romance has been rebalanced and a variety of flags added for tracking continuity. This will primarily affect low (under 60) romance routes.
Aeran’s approval and romance ranges have been locked to a range of 5-95 instead of 0-100. The only time his romance will be recorded as 0 is if the MC either breaks off their romance or their relationship deteriorates enough to remove his romance flag.
Veyer’s impression points now are locked to a range, preventing them from going below 0.
You can no longer access saves when the game menus are open. This is to prevent an error that caused players to be unable to close the Journal after loading a save made when the Journal was open.
If you encounter ongoing issues with the Journal and other game menus not closing properly, it can be be fixed by refreshing your browser. (This may not work in the itch.io app).
Lore/Character
Alassar is no longer capitalized.
Magic classifications are no longer capitalized (i.e. dustforger, brightwarden, not Dustforger or Brightwarden), but specialized jobs remain capitalized (Brightblade, Wayfarer, etc).
Other
Various spelling/grammar fixes.

VLC is very helpful but my god is it one of the worst-designed pieces of software ever built by man. Why does it end playback when the cache reaches the end of the video and not when the video does?! Why don't red book CDs show up in the disc menu?! Why can't I properly crop a video with subtitles?! Why is there a next frame button, but no previous frame button?! Why can't I choose which music metadata to download when there's a collision?! Why isn't the default Blu-ray region derived from the system locale?! Why can I only set default devices for DVDs and VCDs?!
I've heard your explanations, and they're all horse piss! I'm gonna lose it! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

okay really weird question but like. would you be willing to make a mini tutorial thingies on calibre? or like tell me if there's any useful tutorial you've used to understand it? I've been fighting with it to fix up my mother's kindle and it is so strongly winning so far it's almost embarrassing.
Yeah of course! Calibre is honestly so confusing and not intuitive. You can still upload fanfic without Calibre (I use it for fanfics I want to read but don't kee) but you need to figure out how to email it to your Kindle. It's a bit complex so I recommend googling it. Also, it can be buggy and ugly.
Anyways, once you've downloaded Calibre onto your computer and have downloaded your preferred fics (.mobi isn't supported on all Kindles so I use .epub) and open up calibre. Go to "Add Books" and navigate to your downloaded fics. Click on them and then they're added to your Calibre library.
If you want to do fancy stuff, click your fic, and in the top menu click "edit metadata". There you can add a cover (I made my own if they didn't have one like the really popular ones) or change the author or whatever. AO3 tends to export all the data anyway.
Finally, plug your Kindle into your computer. You might have to click allow device to access files but all you need to do is click your fic on Calibre and in the top menu (if it's not there go to preferences or right-click). Then click "send to device". Wait until the jobs in the bottom right are 0 and boom. New fics. Unplug. Oh and if the covers don't load, plug the Kindle back in and in the top menu there should be an arrow for the device and then an option to refresh cache metadata on the kindle.
If you want to import a series as one file this is more tricky. You need to download the Epub merger plugin and install it. (merger plugin and how to install plugins into Calibre (don't unzip the plugins!)). Download your fics (I can't recommend any software because they all break on large series). Then run through the plugin steps. You'll get a new separate file. Just follow the above steps.
I'm still pretty not great at calibre but this is what I use and it serves me quite well!
Tumblr media
Btw this is what my library looks like. See in the top right is a 66-part fic that I absolutely was NOT going to download as separate parts. It's also pretty easy to update (do the merge) and to navigate cause every fic is considered a new chapter. Also, any chapters in the fics are still there to navigate in. You can get away with some huge fics cause I believe the max file size for a paperwhite is 200MB.
Hope this helped!

Mobile SEO Fundamentals for Businesses
Responsive Web Design
A responsive website design ensures that your website adapts and displays properly across different screen sizes and devices. This is a critical aspect of mobile optimization as it provides a seamless user experience. When users can easily navigate and interact with your website on their mobile devices, it improves engagement, reduces bounce rates, and increases the chances of conversion.
Mobile Page Speed
Mobile users expect fast-loading websites, and search engines prioritize mobile-friendly sites with quick load times. Optimizing your website’s mobile page speed is essential for better user experience and search engine rankings. Compressing images, minifying code, and leveraging browser caching are some techniques to improve mobile page speed.
Mobile-Friendly Content
Mobile users consume content differently than desktop users. Businesses need to create mobile-friendly content that is easy to read and navigate on smaller screens. Use shorter paragraphs, bullet points, and subheadings to make your content scannable. Additionally, ensure that your font size is legible and that buttons and links are easily clickable on mobile devices.
Voice Search Optimization
With the rise of voice assistants like Siri, Google Assistant, and Alexa, optimizing for voice search has become crucial. Voice queries tend to be more conversational and longer than typed searches. To optimize for voice search, focus on long-tail keywords, and natural language, and provide direct answers to common questions within your content.
Local SEO
Mobile devices have significantly influenced local search queries. Businesses should optimize their websites for local SEO to attract nearby customers. Register your business on Google My Business, optimize your business listings, and ensure that your website includes localized content, such as location-specific keywords and contact information.
Mobile Sitemap and Structured Data
Submitting a mobile sitemap to search engines helps them understand and crawl your mobile website effectively. Additionally, implementing structured data markup, such as Schema.org, provides search engines with additional information about your website’s content, enhancing the chances of appearing in rich snippets and knowledge graphs.
Mobile User Experience
User experience is a critical factor in mobile SEO. Ensure that your website is mobile-friendly by avoiding intrusive interstitials, which can hinder the user experience. Optimize your website’s navigation, use responsive design elements, and make sure that your mobile website is easy to navigate, providing a seamless experience for mobile users.
Mobile Analytics
Regularly monitor and analyze your mobile traffic and user behavior using analytics tools like Google Analytics. Understand how users interact with your mobile website, identify any bottlenecks, and make data-driven decisions to improve your mobile SEO strategy.
Mobile Link Building
Building high-quality backlinks is essential for SEO success, and this applies to mobile optimization as well. Focus on acquiring mobile-friendly backlinks from reputable websites within your industry. These links will help improve your mobile search rankings and increase your overall visibility.
Mobile App Optimization
If your business has a mobile app, optimize it for search engines as well. Include relevant keywords in the app title, description, and metadata. Encourage user reviews and ratings, as positive reviews can improve your app’s visibility in app store search results.
If you are looking for any further advice with content marketing, feel free to contact the experts offering the services of an SEO company in India.

#chickens cannot be contained by orthography

I actually thought some of these sounded familiar so I decided to check out my old buddy Henrik Harpestreng and his late 1300s cookbook and check this out (my hasty translations from the Old Danish below):
20. Mæn sculæ takæ fullcumæn høns oc skæræ thæn i twinning oc latæ thæm siuthæ i en grytæ vtæn watnæ. a gløthæ. oc latæ sithæn til thæt søth thær thæræ wrthær af. pætercili mintæ pipær. oc smolt. oc ædik oc salt

One should fry a hen and cut it into pieces and make broth and melted fat and garlic and wine and salt and egg [idk]. and add the hen to it
I guess some things are eternal. check out his recipe for sweet & sour sauce:
7. Latæ mæn til sinæp fiarthing swo mykæth hunnung æssæ sinæp ær. oc malæ thæt mæth goot ædik. tha haldæ mæn thæt goot sæx vkæ
take a quarter* of mustard and add to as much honey as there is mustard. and mix it with vinegar. that will then keep for six weeks
*a fiarthing/fjarthing/fjerding is a unit of meeasurement that is 1/4 of another measurement but it's not given here how much that is.

Ok so I’ve fallen down a rabbit hole of researching period food & recipes, and,,,,
"one fifteenth century recipe contains the word "Chickens" four times-with four different spellings, of which the first is "Schyconys.""
excuse me medieval people but what the fuck

Building High-Performance Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) with React: A Comprehensive Guide
Introduction
In today’s digital world, businesses and developers are regularly seeking innovative ways to deliver seamless and engaging user experiences. Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) have turned out to be a game-changer, combining the best features of web and mobile applications to offer engaging, fast, and reliable digital experiences. Built using modern web technologies, PWAs are designed to work offline, load quickly, and provide app-like functionality across various devices.
One of the most popular frameworks for building PWAs is React, a powerful JavaScript library known for its efficiency and flexibility. With React, developers can create highly responsive and scalable PWAs that enhance user engagement and performance. Here, we will cover the fundamentals of building PWAs with React, their advantages, and how they can revolutionise modern web development. If you aim to build powerful web applications or transition into a high-demand tech career, ExcelR’s Full-Stack Java Developer Training equips you with the skills to succeed.
Understanding Progressive Web Apps (PWAs)
A Progressive Web App is an internet-based mobile application that leverages modern network capabilities to deliver an experience similar to native mobile apps. PWAs are built from the ground up to be responsive, reliable, and engaging while eliminating the need for app store distribution.
Key features of PWAs include:
Offline Functionality – PWAs use service workers to cache resources, enabling them to function without an internet connection.
Fast Load Times – Optimised performance ensures quick loading, reducing bounce rates.
App-Like Experience – PWAs provide a full-screen, immersive experience with push notifications and smooth navigation.
Cross-Platform Compatibility – Users can access PWAs across multiple devices and platforms without needing separate development efforts.
Why Use React for PWAs?
React has gained immense traction among developers for its ability to create dynamic, scalable, and high-performance applications. When building PWAs, React offers several advantages:
Component-Based Architecture – React’s modular approach allows developers to reuse components, reducing development time and effort.
Efficient State Management – With libraries like Redux, React ensures seamless data management across the application.
Virtual DOM – React’s virtual DOM optimises rendering, enhancing performance and reducing load times.
SEO-Friendly – With server-side rendering (SSR) support, React improves search engine visibility, making PWAs more discoverable.
Steps to Build a PWA with React
Setting Up the ProjectTo start building a PWA with React, developers typically use Create React App (CRA), which provides built-in support for PWA development.
Configuring Service WorkersService workers play a crucial role in enabling offline access, caching assets, and improving performance. Implementing service workers ensures that the application functions even when the network is unavailable.
Adding a Web App ManifestThe manifest file defines the application’s metadata, including its name, icons, theme colours, and display mode. This enables the PWA to be installable on a user’s device.
Optimising PerformanceTechniques like lazy loading, code splitting, and image optimisation help improve load times and enhance user experience.
Testing and DeploymentDevelopers use tools like Lighthouse to audit the PWA’s performance, ensuring compliance with best practices. Once optimised, the PWA is deployed using hosting services such as Firebase, Netlify, or Vercel.
Business Benefits of PWAs
For businesses and developers, PWAs offer several advantages:
Cost-Effective Development – Since PWAs eliminate the need for separate native apps, businesses save time and development costs.
Improved User Engagement – Features such as push notifications and offline access boost customer interaction.
Higher Conversion Rates – Fast-loading, mobile-friendly PWAs reduce bounce rates and enhance conversions.
Enhanced Security – PWAs use HTTPS to ensure secure data transmission.

Crawling vs Indexing in SEO: Fix These Issues to Boost Your Traffic
In the SEO world, crawling and indexing are used interchangeably. They are two different phases in the search engine optimization process. If you desire your website to rank higher, you need to know these terms.
In this post, we’ll break down the difference between crawling and indexing, explain what is crawling in search engine, and share how SEO services to fix crawl errors and indexation issues can help your site perform better in search results.
Tumblr media
What is the difference between crawling and indexing in SEO?
Crawling is when search engine robots (such as Googlebot) visit and find web pages all over the web. Imagine your site being visited by the bot.
Indexing occurs after crawling — after a bot knows about your page's content, it determines whether or not to cache and index it in the database of the search engine (the index) so that it is available in the search results.
In simple terms: Crawling is discovery, indexing is storage.
If your website isn't crawled, then it won't get indexed. And if it isn't indexed, then it won't be displayed in Google. This is the reason SEO experts give proper emphasis on both these steps.
What is crawling in search engine ?
Crawling in a search engine is the way that bots travel the web searching for new or changed content. This content may be a webpage, image, video, or file. The bot begins with a list of URLs and follows links on those pages to discover other pages — known as "crawling the web."
Here's how crawling normally works:
Search engines utilize sitemaps and backlinks to find URLs.
Bots crawl these URLs and examine content, metadata, internal links, and so on.
The bot gathers data and submits it to the search engine for processing.
If your page can't be crawled because of broken links, robots.txt blocks, or poor site structure, it won't reach the next step — indexing.
Why indexing matters
Once crawled, if the content is useful and compliant with Google's webmaster guidelines, it is indexed in the search engine. This implies that your page is now qualified to show up in related search results.
But not all crawled content gets indexed.
Below are typical reasons why pages are not indexed:
Thin content with minimal or no value
Duplicate pages
Crawl errors
Blocked by noindex tag or robots.txt
This is where SEO services to rectify crawl errors and indexation problems become imperative. They assist website owners in making sure their site is healthy, accessible, and optimized for improved visibility.
How SEO services fix crawl errors and indexation problems
Technical audits by professional SEO services go in-depth and explore reasons why your site is not crawled or indexed correctly. Here's what they usually provide:
Crawl error detection with Google Search Console, Screaming Frog, or Ahrefs
Repairing broken internal links or redirect chains
Optimization of robots.txt and sitemap files
Removing duplicated content
Enhancing page speed and mobile usability
Verifying canonical tags and meta tags are properly implemented
These actions do not just enhance crawlability and indexation but also increase the likelihood of ranking higher on search engine result pages (SERPs).
Final Thoughts
Knowing the difference between crawling and indexing in SEO is important for any website owner. Without crawling, your pages remain hidden. Without indexing, they cannot compete for rankings. And without correcting crawl errors and indexation issues, your SEO efforts may fail.
Spending money on the right SEO services to fix crawl errors and indexation issues can make a huge impact on how well your website performs.

Thin Provisioning Deep Dive: Maximizing SAN Storage Capacity Without Risk
Storage efficiency has become a top priority for IT leaders navigating exponential data growth, tight budgets, and the need for operational agility. One technology stands out for its ability to squeeze more value out of every storage dollar in SAN environments: thin provisioning. While the promise of allocating just the storage actually in use is attractive, thin provisioning also poses challenges that require careful planning and oversight. This deep-dive will unpack the real benefits, examine the risks, share practical use cases, and outline actionable best practices for deploying thin provisioning in your SAN solution infrastructure.
Why Thin Provisioning? Unpacking the Benefits
Cost Savings Without Compromise
Traditional storage provisioning forces administrators to allocate the full requested capacity from day one, resulting in significant “dead on arrival” storage. Thin provisioning breaks this pattern. It enables you to assign more virtual storage to hosts than physically exists on the system, only using physical capacity as data is actually written.
Reduced upfront capital expenditure: By provisioning storage “just in time,” enterprises avoid over-purchasing disks and arrays. IDC research estimates organizations can cut capital storage costs by up to 33% through thin provisioning, especially in rapidly expanding data environments.
Optimized utilization rates: Classic thick provisioning can leave average utilization rates lingering between 20-30%. Thin provisioned SANs regularly see utilization jump to 60-80%, significantly increasing ROI on hardware investments.
Defers hardware upgrades: Because storage is consumed based on actual use, purchasing cycles are extended, and organizations face less pressure to scramble for additional hardware.
Flexibility and Agility in a Dynamic Landscape
Modern enterprises must respond rapidly to evolving workload demands. Thin provisioning offers the ability to:
Quickly provision storage for new projects or virtual machines without lengthy procurement or physical configuration.
Scale allocated capacity up or down seamlessly, supporting DevOps workflows and cloud-native applications that thrive on adaptability.
Simplify storage management, as administrators focus on logical provisioning and pool management rather than micromanaging LUNs.
Green IT and Operational Efficiency
By consuming less power, cooling, and floor space, thin provisioning also contributes to sustainability targets and operational cost reduction. Fewer idle drives spinning in racks means a smaller environmental and budgetary footprint.
Navigating Risks and Strategies for Mitigation
No technology comes without trade-offs. The primary concerns with thin provisioning fall into two categories: over-allocation (oversubscription) and potential performance impacts.
The Over-Allocation Challenge
Thin provisioning’s power comes from presenting more capacity to servers than is actually available. However, if actual consumption approaches or exceeds the physical space, it can result in “out-of-space” errors, data loss, or application downtime.
Mitigation strategies include:
Continuous monitoring: Leverage SAN software tools and SNMP-based alerts to track real capacity usage, free space in pools, and growth trends in real time.
Automated thresholds and notifications: Set utilization alarms at 70%, 85%, and 95% so administrators can react well before a crisis occurs.
Scheduled audits: Regularly review allocation versus usage across applications. Identify and retire unused LUNs.
Performance Overheads
Thin provisioning can introduce extra I/O when the system needs to allocate new blocks or manage metadata, which may result in additional latency compared to pre-allocated (thick provisioned) storage.
To mitigate performance risks:
Ensure the storage controller has sufficient cache and CPU to handle provisioning overhead.
Use high-performance disk arrays or all-flash backends for heavy I/O workloads.
Monitor IOPS and latency metrics at the pool and LUN levels, not just physical disks.
Thin Provisioning in Action: Key Use Cases
Virtual Infrastructure Environments
VMware, Hyper-V, and KVM-based data centers are prime beneficiaries of thin provisioning, as virtual machines often request large amounts of disk that remain unused for long periods. Thin provisioning allows hosting organizations to grow clusters without investing in capacity that might never be used, all while maintaining flexibility for rapid scale-up.
Test and Development Sandboxes
Development, QA, and test environments typically need large amounts of temporary space. Thin provisioning enables IT to grant generous LUNs to teams, knowing the underlying consumption is likely far less. This drastically reduces wasted capacity in sandbox environments.
Database Storage
While mission-critical databases sometimes favor thick provisioning for guaranteed throughput (think high-frequency trading or ERP), many production and analytics environments benefit from thin provisioning, especially when columns or “future growth” are sized for maximum but rarely utilized.
Cloud Service Providers
Multi-tenant clouds or managed hosting providers leverage thin provisioning to maximize density across customer workloads, lowering per-customer costs and shortening new-user onboarding times.
Disaster Recovery and Backup
Thin provisioning in DR sites or backup arrays reduces storage footprints for infrequently used replicated data sets, deferring expensive hardware purchases until absolutely necessary.
Best Practices for Deploying and Managing Thin Provisioning
1. Know Your Workloads
Assess which applications are suitable for thin provisioning. Critical production databases demanding the lowest latency may be assigned thick-provisioned disks, while dev/test, file shares, or archival systems can maximize savings with thin provisioning.
2. Plan for Over-Allocation
Map out “worst-case” consumption scenarios. Many organizations safely oversubscribe at 3x or 4x physical capacity, but this relies on accurate forecasting of growth, regular monitoring, and proactive expansion when thresholds are approached.
3. Invest in Robust Monitoring Tools
Select SAN platforms that support detailed monitoring, alerting, and automation. Consider dashboards that offer historical trending, instant notifications, and integration with enterprise monitoring solutions like Nagios or Splunk.
4. Document and Communicate Policies
Ensure all teams who request storage understand the implications of thin provisioning. Document policies for allocation, user responsibility, and escalation procedures if growth exceeds projections.
5. Regularly Review and Reclaim Space
Unused LUNs or volumes: Routinely retire and reclaim resources that are no longer needed.
Zero detection and unmap commands: Use features that detect all-zero blocks and return unused space to the pool, increasing available capacity.
6. Balance Thin and Thick Provisioning
Mixed environments are common. Use thin provisioning where it offers the most benefit, but don’t hesitate to assign thick disks for workloads requiring predictable performance.
7. Test Failover and Recovery Procedures
Simulate near-capacity events and failover scenarios in a lab environment. Use these exercises to fine-tune alerting, reporting, and recovery strategies so your team is prepared for real-world incidents.
The Road Ahead for Thin Provisioning
Thin provisioning has reached maturity in most enterprise SAN storage deployments, but its role continues to expand alongside more intelligent storage solutions. Advances in AI-powered analytics, predictive maintenance, and integration with container-based workloads are making thin provisioning even more automated and resilient.
Adopting thin provisioning isn’t just a tactical win for today’s cost-conscious storage teams; it’s a strategic move that will enable business agility as demands on storage continue to scale. By balancing aggressive space savings with strong governance and modern monitoring tools, enterprises can unlock dramatic efficiency gains without exposing themselves to unnecessary risks.
