I saw your “Im looking for mutuals to be friends with” post and let me tell you, I have So Many Thoughts about Shigaraki

like, I feel like people don’t really think about how tragic of a character he is! I didn’t really like the way he was framed as a “man-child” because so many of his behaviors, especially relating to video games and action figures/plushies seemed like he was genuinely in so much distress that he was involuntarily age regressing and AFO was using his impaired state of mind to manipulate him into thinking he’s playing a big game of heroes and villains

I think it’s very likely that he was stuck in the mindset of a scared little kid well into his twenties and that AFO forced himself into the role of father in a way he felt that Shigaraki would think of as normal when he knew the situation Shigaraki was in.

this is also reflected in the way that Shigaraki treats Kurogiri like an older sibling, since at the time that AFO… adopted? kidnapped? Shigaraki, he was struggling with the loss of his big sister. In all likelihood, AFO started out by trying to remake Shigaraki’s family with himself as head of the family.

I totally agree with everything you said. Shigarakis character is so tragic when you get into it. Alot of people are desensitized to media because of how fucked up anime backstories can get, so i feel like Shigarakis situation isnt treated as seriously as it should be by most of the fandom.

Alot of his mannerisms and hobbies are definitely very childish and could indicate that certain things (the hands) could trigger him into a more infantile like state of mind. Thus making him more impulsive, violent, and less concerned with the consequences of his actions with concern to other peoples lives (please note im talking about early shigaraki). Alot of times children will exhibit violent behavior not out of pure malicious interests but because they're state of mind makes them more reactive. I think shigaraki gets triggerd in his everyday life and gets triggered to become violent. For example he gets incredibly violent and angry during stressful situations, more than the fellow leauge members. So there definitely could be an argument made that some part of his brain regresses when exposed to triggers OR part of his brain is less developed due to the trauma.

His interests also show he likes more socially childish things, especially when you take into consideration that hes in japan. If you look at the picture of his room in the manga we see plushes and figurines, which adults definitely collect aswell, but the ones he collects look more like action figures and not really collectable figures (thats just my opinion though) and also the plushy shows that he does have an interest in these more childish things because i kinda doubt AFO or Kurogiri bought it for him.

When people face as bad of trauma as shigaraki did (physical abuse, emotional abuse, neglect, killing his entire family) its not uncommon for them, purposefully or not, to regress to a younger age usually the age at which the trauma occurred. I think shigaraki, wether or not his hobbies have to do with age regression, is at a higher risk of developing this coping mechanism. He is obviously under stress alot. And he was kidnapped by AFO and groomed. Constantly under the expectation of "demon lord" and the pressure of iving up to AFOs potential. I could definitely see him locking his door getting snacks, playing games, looking at his figures and plushies, and feeling his mind slipping him into a younger mental age. But i can also see him get triggerd by any sudden movements or violence and get involuntarily put into a more regressed state of mind.

AFO definitely is trying to make a family for tomura, but not for tomuras sake. We saw that AFO loved his brother and family obviously is something he values so want to have tomura act as his child could provide him some sort of emotional satisfaction. (Along with the satisfaction of knowing his evil is working) And shigaraki definitely treats Kurogiri like an older sibling figure, i have an older sister and the way they interact reminds me of my sister and i. I think shigaraki may subconsciously replacing hana but i also think that tomura is just hanging onto the only person who has been there and provided for him (emotionally).

Sorry if this makes no sense or has mistakes im writing this as my sleeping pills are kicking in and while im watching YouTube so my mind is all over the place but nowhere at the same time lmao im just ranting aboit shigaraki putting whatever came to mind on this post. I might sit down and make an in depth and more well put together post about this ask because i think its super interesting i love tomura shigaraki so much omfg

Tomura watched for weeks as she still hung around Dabi. Even after what he had said? If anything, it made her avoid him more. He just wanted to curl up into a little ball, never to be seen again. If she liked Dabi so much, why didn't they leave and just start their own League of Villains? It would probably turn out better anyway.

“Tomura?” Toga knocked on the side of his door and stepped in. “Tomura, are you alright?” “Leave me alone.” Shigaraki pulled the sheets over his head, curling up on his bed. “I'm worried about you.” Toga sat on the end of his bed, playing with a little bunny stuffed animal she found. “I'm fine.” “You don't seem fine. You’ve been distant. She didn't mean to avoid Tomura. She just couldn't believe it. He… liked her? She didn't even think he cared that she existed. She wanted more than anything to just kiss him on the spot that night, but she didn't. She didn't and she hated herself for it. Instead of doing anything about it, either, she just avoided him, making the situation worse.

“Tomura?” She knocked on his door and just walked in. She knew he would be a pain, so she decided to take matters into her own hands. “Go away. I don't want to see you.” “Tomura, please.” “No!” He turned towards her, his eyes puffy and red. “I'm sorry.” “I don't wanna hear it.” He went to put on some headphones, but she pulled them away from him, getting down to his level. “I'm really sorry. Do you think Shigaraki would have still decayed them? Would he sit, listen, and talk to someone who genuinely wanted to understand him and his pain? I know Midoriya is set up to be this character for Shigaraki, but how would he respond to compassion and empathy from someone he doesn't have prior encounters with? From a pro hero? I think it would be hard for him to trust that they wouldn't still attack him, or maybe I'm completely wrong and he wouldn't care one bit about decaying them too, but I wonder how much of him, even now, just wants to be seen. To be heard. To have a kind hand reach out to him like he was desperate for as a terrified child wandering the streets.

I can’t think of a lot right now but I am thinking of Dabi laid in bed overly pregnant at just five months carrying twins.

He’s hiding from both Hawks and Tomura. The condom broke and neither knew he could get pregnant and so he’s in hiding in a completely different part of Japan on the countryside with neighbors who don’t care about his past and come by to help him in the morning.

He goes into town and works an easy job as a librarian where he can thankfully sit most of his shift and his boss doesn’t mind if he falls asleep after his lunch break since his boss & coworkers have permission to feel the babies kick and flutter.

One has Hawks wings and the other doesn’t. He’s already been told he’s carrying both their children. Learning he was pregnant with not one but two was a hard pill to swallow. It only got harder when he realized how painful and disabling pregnancy was going to be for him. He was high risk due to his health. Even with his skin no longer held together by staples he was never healthy to begin with.

With pregnancy he found himself either sad, at peace when it was just him and the babies alone at home or content when reading. He didn’t smile much save for when the twins kicked or he ate a craving food. Dabi often wished Tomura and Hawks were with him both during the day and late nights when the twins kept him up late.

He daydreams they would respond well to his pregnancy and that they would be happy in their own way and they could be a family. But he knows reality won’t allow that. Not when Tomura’s goal is too important and Hawks will always be a hero whether owned by the commission or free. Hawks will always choose heroism over both him and Tomura and even their children and Tomura has no room for a family in his vision.

He’s honestly surprised at himself for giving up his years long plan of revenge to take care of them, he was even shocked he kept them. But it just didn’t sit right with him treating his children as less than or getting rid of them when it hurt so bad when the same thing happened to him.

He couldn’t imagine hurting them by just giving them away or seeing them as anything but a part of himself, Hawks and Tomura. And so his decision was made the moment he first saw the swell at the sketchy doctors office looking at the two little blobs on the screen behind blurry and zoned out eyes.

It was hard leaving but he was on autopilot until he made it to where he currently lives. He spent five months adjusting to his new life only for a knock to disrupt him from reading his favorite novel. It took time to get out of the chair and waddle to the front door telling the impatient person he was coming.

He felt an eery silence when he did but shook it off as hormones, pulling his sweater down to try and cover his belly. It would only stay if he kept his hand there and so he opened the door expecting to see his neighbor who would ask for him to watch their dog every few days for when they would leave town on business. He had his eyes on the ground excepting to see Shadow as he held the shirt in place below his belly only to see two familiar pairs of feet and the ends of large red wings.

His eyes went wide and his heart stopped as he was forced to look up. Seeing Tomura and Hawks eyes stuck on his belly was not how he saw his day going and slamming the door locking it was futile since he knew Tomura could just dust it and Hawks could pick any lock if he set his mind to it.

He was so fucked he didn’t think they would find him all the way out here. He didn’t even think they would be looking for him at least not beyond the city. He never expected to be found, he never expected them to truly care or even go looking for him.

He can’t help but panic as he clutches his heart as his hand grips his shirt beneath his belly as his back starts to ache and his feet feel like they’re swelling from standing too long. They’re here and he can’t play this off. Not when the obvious has rounded him out.

Time seems to freeze and he doesn’t know what to do.

The only thought that races through his mind is, ‘what now?’
