Madoka is the promise you won't turn from a child, full of hopes and dreams and the wish to save the world, into a bitter adult who just wants to hurt others and ruin people's lives
Madoka promised to be there for you to remind you of the person you wanted to be and to stop you from becoming what you sought to destroy
Madoka made that promise and became the very embodiment of it

Pride Month Manga Recommendations: Currently Releasing
Tumblr media
It's the first day of Pride Month, so why not find some LGBTQ+ manga to read to kick off the start of June? Take a look through this thread of 10 currently releasing manga and light novels to find a new series to pick up, starting with-
The Summer Hikaru Died - Soon To Be an Anime!
Tumblr media
Yoshiki and Hikaru were best friends, until Yoshiki notices a change in the boy and comes to find out that he's been replaced by some sort of monster that proclaims his love for Yoshiki.
A fittingly disturbing affair, The Summer Hikaru Died does wonderful work as a horror manga, and expertly intertwines Yoshiki and "Hikaru's" emotions and feelings for one another with the dark and foreboding tone of the series.
Whisper Me A Love Song - A Currently Airing Anime!
Tumblr media
Yori Asanagi is a girl better at guitar than love, but what happens when underclassman Himari Kino falls in love with that guitar work? Well, a string of misunderstandings appears that sets in motion this love song of a story.
Whisper Me A Love Song is certainly a bit close to cliché or melodramatic, but with Takeshima Eku's art, it becomes quite the appealing series. Certainly for fans of a more typically-styled love story, Whisper Me A Love Song is a very fun read!
I Married My Female Friend - from the author of Doughnuts Under A Crescent Moon
Tumblr media
One day at a festival, Kurumi and Ruriko made a "promise" to each other: in 5 years, if neither found a partner, they would get married. That period elapses, and Ruriko comes racing back to Kurumi with a marriage certificate in hand.
I Married My Female Friend is both a lighthearted yet emotionally aware manga that feels like a spiritual successor to Doughnuts Under a Crescent Moon, skipping the challenges of finding love & heading for the difficulty of being in love.
Seaside Stranger - Also A Major (Animated) Motion Picture
Tumblr media
A story of two young men estranged from their parents, Seaside Stranger finds a difficult love blossom on a remote island that begins as confinement for the pair as they work through their challenging feelings and pasts.
Kii Kana's art is really something, and studio Hibari's adaptation is equally beautiful- extracting the most out of this dramatic (and steamy) romance. I might add though that it's not quite for those brand new to BL thanks to explicit content, but it's a great read nonetheless.
Otherside Picnic - Both An Anime And Manga
Tumblr media
Sorawo Kamikoshi, a university student, spends her free time exploring a creepy pasta-esque dimension she calls the Otherside where she meets Toriko Nishina as the two narrowly escape the clutches of death, starting their journey.
While it's certainly quite the slow-burn of a romance, Iori Miyazawa's horror-filled world is bursting with passion and discomfort in equal amounts, making for a riveting read with a romance that feels impressively real. There's also an anime.... but it doesn't quite deliver.
Cinderella Closet
Tumblr media
Haruka's a "plain jane" who left the countryside to live a bright and fashionable life in Tokyo- which she struggles with before meeting her "fairy godmother" Haruka- a young person with an incredible eye and interest for women's fashion and makeup.
In a sense, Cinderella Closet is a very loud depiction of romance in "the big city", throwing curve balls and both romantic & emotional challenges at every turn. In the end though, it remains a very positive and encouraging story with each turn, making for a great read.
The Contract Between a Specter and a Servant
Tumblr media
On the worst- and final- day of Masamichi Adachi's life, he's hit by a car and left to die in the streets at night... until the enigmatic Shino offers him a contract to save his life.
While in the same genre as Otherside Picnic, this light novel certainly leans more into traditional horror as it explores a tense but intriguing relationship between Masamchi and Shino. A unique and engaging (re-released) light novel, it's an easy choice for fans of horror!
I Want To Be A Wall
Tumblr media
Though Yuriko and Gakurouta are married, no love blossoms between them, as Yuriko is asexual (and a fan of BL) and Gakurouta stills holds feelings for his oblivious (male) childhood friend close to his heart.
Sporting a wonderfully unique concept, I Want To Be A Wall is a story that more so focuses on the wedded couple's humorous day-to-day lives than anything. A very light and enjoyable series, it's very easy to recommend to just about anyone.
Confessions of a Shy Baker
Tumblr media
Toshimitsu Yamamura owns a real estate company and is a baking fanatic- spurred on by the sweet tooth of his boyfriend Gonta. One day however, Toshi gets pushed towards advertising his services as LGBTQ-friendly, forcing him to reconcile with how this move that would help others might out himself as gay.
A manga that delicately balances the societal struggles of being gay with a bright and heartwarming romance centered around baking, Confessions of a Shy Baker is a great jack all of trades manga.
Our Not-So-Lonely Planet Travel Guide
Tumblr media
Overly serious Asahi Suzumura and equally laid-back Mitsuki Sayama made each other a promise: together, they'll travel around the world, and when they return to Japan they'll get married.
A beautiful story that throws readers out into the world through destinations and stories, this is a manga that does everything it can within its pages. A forbidden love, a forgotten partner, struggles with laws that forbid love- together they explore this world and each other.
And that's all the recommendations for today, if you have any more you'd like to add feel free to share them here!

📚 Blue Moon by Linda Windsor
When I read this series in high school, this was definitely my favorite of the three. I think I still like this one the best, but I have to say that this series isn’t really my style anymore. Not that I didn’t like them this time through, they just aren’t necessarily what I would choose now. Anyway, this book is the most romantic of the three, and the most exciting. I also like that the female lead is the sibling this time rather than another brother. I also like this one because it wraps up the whole series and follows up with the brothers at the end. But it can be read as a stand-alone, and the ending isn’t confusing. I would definitely recommend this whole series, even if you only read them once.
Overall rating: 7/10

Killers of the Flower Moon - Book Review
Mild Warning - In book, there is some violence, and some autopsies described - there are no pictures of this within. I will not discuss spoilers.
short review - I described the general plot to my in-laws, after mentioning the upcoming Scorsese film, and they were instantly sold. Good for adult kids and parents who need Thanksgiving fodder, and a great way to blow up toxic conservative discourse that justifies nasty history. IF YOU WANT TO READ THE BOOK BEFORE THE MOVIE, IT WILL SPOIL SOME OF THE MOVIE MYSTERY. besides that, 10/10 read it.
long review: this is the history story that will be really accessible to most people, but that is not to its detriment - all the better, this is undiscussed history that should be common knowledge, and this book's presentation of this story is incredible. It has atmosphere for days, little twists and turns, and very well described people who were photographed in the story's time, and this book is full of those pictures. If you need a face to a name, this book has you covered.
The book is about the Osage Murders of the 1920s, which is, well, tough. Understatement. I would suggest reading in a good brain place - the story of violence both physical and emotional against American Indians/the native peoples of the Americas is built on thousands of people actively and passively destroying the ways of live in hundreds of tribes. This book focuses on the Osage, but of course, this kind of horror is enacted again and again, and is still happening.
This is the kind of text that is a part of the continued re-education of Americans - one of many books picked up and added to the 'post-school curriculum' one book at a time. It is interesting seeing the quilting together of this knowledge, which one could hope is becoming more incorporated into the average person's reading diet. I know this is grandiose, but something great about telling one story about one tribe is it opens the door to the entire discourse of the American Indian / Native Peoples of the Americas, and the door could really slam way the heck open for even just a small percentage of readers.
Thanks for reading my review, happy reading out there.

hello! what mk issue is your latest post?
thank you in advance :D

Gasp! More asks! :D
The panels in this post are from #1 of a 1998 mini series also known as Moon Knight: Resurrection War, written by Doug Moench!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I've just finished it (it's only got 4 issues) and I loved it a lot, so I'm sure I won't be able to shut up about it for a while.
Good writing and surprisingly good art, I recommend it if you've read Moench's original run or if you're recovering from the sweet man-made horrors beyond comprehension of the previous one (Marc Spector: Moon Knight)
Thank you for the ask!

Oh this is such a lovely idea!! I am Sarah, a Cancer sun, Gemini moon, Virgo rising 💕
Hi Sarah 🩵🩵
Cancer sun and Gemini moon has a unique mix of intellect and wit. They also tend to thrive in more chill and laid back environments (rather than competitive environments). They usually seek out peaceful and tense free spaces. Along with Virgo rising— it wouldn’t surprise me if you have a very soft sense of emotional connection. Probably caring a lot about how you make other people feel and are aware of their feelings, even without them speaking.
That’s why I feel like this song is something you’d jive with. It’s all about the vibes 😌🌸💖

Blade of The Moon Princess Volume 1: An Incredible Look Into Endou's Vision
Tumblr media
Rather imprudent of me to title this after the artist rather than the art itself, but it's very hard not to. When your most recent work is your greatest hit, and one of the largest out of nowhere successes in a good while, it's hard to relate everything to that feat.
Regardless, what we have here is Endou's last serialized work before Spy x Family. There's a trio of one-shots bridging the gap, but all three (I Spy in particular, of course) contribute a significant amount to what it is that Endou distills into Spy x Family. Of course, you get borrowings from Tista, and most certainly from Blade of The Moon Princess. Because of those ties, I'd love to explain the connections (and quality) of Blade of The Moon Princess in relation to Endou's Magnum Opus.
Let's get the story out of the way: there are people living on the moon. All Feudal Japan-like but with fancy technology and unimaginable power. Kaguya, the young girl on the cover, is the next-in-line princess to succeed her mother and rise from princess to empress of the moon. Of course, not everyone likes that, as the branch family that was disgraced by the actions of the prior empress that originated from their family has stained their history. Desperate to claw back the power they had lost, they attempt to murder Kaguya's mother and steal away the symbol of her power, a sword passed down from empress to empress that's meant to protect the people of the moon. The coup-meets-assassination fails, and Kaguya is able to flee to the tainted planet (Earth) with the sword and evade the branch family, if only briefly.
Surprisingly well put together, yeah? I thought so too. Where Tista lacks a clear cut vision as to the reason behind Tista's story, Endou rectifies that hole here by providing viewers with the idea that Kaguya's goal is to return to the moon as its empress and usurp the branch family that has wrestled control away from her.
Moving on though, there's quite a few pieces that will catch the attention of readers. The moon, Kaguya, bamboo and Japan. It's Endou's version of The Story of Princess Kaguya. And I think that's really cool. They stretch the fabric of the original story so thin that you can shine a light through it, and Endou uses that light to illuminate the details that he's added. Kaguya does not appear to an old man in a stalk of bamboo. Rather, she appears in a space ship shaped like bamboo.
Tumblr media
Much like Endou's marriage of sci-fi and fantasy with Blade of The Moon Princess, they form a transitional period in their storytelling between Tista and Spy x Family. Not quite as humorous as Spy x Family, and not quite as dark as Tista, Kaguya helms a story that straddles the middle of Endou's mind through this first volume. And I think that's something that will be immediately apparent to readers throughout the whole volume.
Though I say 'whole volume', there's two things that will immediately clue readers in: Anya and perspective. Now no, Anya does not appear in this first volume really. But I mean, just look at Kaguya's expressions, they exude the simplicity and laziness of Anya. While Ashe from the referentially titled Rengoku No Ashe might have been the inspiration for Anya's design, Kaguya represents a good portion of her soul.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Similarly, though in the opposite direction, is Endou's use of perspective. While it still exists in Spy x Family, it's to a far lesser degree than something like Tista. In his early days, he very much so had a penchant for blown perspective and the depiction of characters with small and narrow frames. Blade of The Moon Princess continues this trend, though perhaps on a lesser scale than before. The latter example in particular feels like it was pulled directly from Tista.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyways, let's refocus on the story to close things out. We know what Endou wants to do, we know where we're going and where it wants to end. It's a very confident series in that regard, which in turns provides me with confidence that it'll be a solid ride through its five volume run. It won't rush to fit it into two volumes, and it won't barely make it a story through one, it'll take its ideals about Kaguya's character, and take the time Endou needs to probably mold and shape it. It's the most promising exercise in Endou's storytelling prior to Spy x Family, and that has me very intrigued. A hot headed girl, stranded so far away from home, stuck with feelings of inadequacy and rage. But a girl that must nonetheless learn how to harness those feelings for the better, and use them to protect the people that form her kingdom. It's a well put and traditional approach with all the right twists and turns inserted by Endou. I'm very curious to see where it goes.

Bone Crier's Moon Review
6/10
The book was good. The plot was good. However, it was not outstanding.
a) The writing was hard to follow when describing religion and the gods. It was described as a little more complex than necessary. I feel like there were so many questions and hypotheticals that should have been answered to make it make sense.
b) there were hardly any moments between Bastien and Ailesse that made it to where they had the opportunity to "fall in love" they had no moments and hardly any conversation. You can tell that it was definitely supposed to be a slow burn but the lack of moments between them didn't have me rooting for the pair when it finally came down to their romantic climax. There wasn't any real tension. Someone described it as an "instant-love" situation and that was 100% correct.
c) It really had me sitting on the edge of my seat. But I'm not sure if that's because it was so confusing that I needed to figure out what the author meant or if it was because it was a genuinely good plotline. I enjoyed reading the book but it was held in higher esteem in my head going into the book than coming out.
I will be reading and (hopefully) finishing the second book. I'm rooting for Casimir and Sabine even though I initially wanted Sabine and Jules to get along and hopefully have a romance ;). But coming to find out the author is Mormon, I'm assuming we won't see any LGBTQ representation in any of her books, including the sequel.
Had potential but didn't live up to the expectations. Deserves the little attention it has to be honest. it was an okay book but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone I know.
THE SPICE LEVEL WAS SO DISAPPOINTING ;-:

Little Gold Top: Kate Martin x Reader
Summary : Turns out Kate Martin does have a weakness, it just happens to be your little gold shirt.
(TOC) (Next)
Warnings: drinking, suggestive content, not proof read, maybe angst? A bit short too
AN: Let me know if y'all want a part 2!! Also send reccs/inspo plss 🧡
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kate was actually loosing her sanity. Watching you dance with her teamates in the crowd of this sticky old bar room. She felt absolutely feral. The way your gold sparkly top reflected patterns around the room, you were almost a discoball. Not to mention the shirt was on the smaller side. Kate was never one to judge, infact she almost liked the shirt a little too much for someone whos "just a friend".
After a few drinks it didn't take much persuasion to get Kate off her barstool and into the crowd. Dancing and bopping along to the music with Caitlin as she watched you talk to some guy. Seems like he liked your shirt too. She felt like a crow, overly interested in shiny objects. She knew you didn't want to talk to the guy. He was ugly.
Maybe it was the drinks, or just her inner crow. Her intoxicated brain dragging her over to where you stood against the wall. She wrapped an arm around your waist, her hand playing with the bottom of your shirt. She cuts in immediately, "Heyyyy Cait says we need to leave. like now." She wasn't sure where this absolute bullshit lie came from. It was a Friday, there was no game tomorrow, no practices, no classes. Nothing.
She looks down at your confused face, than over to the guy you had been chatting with. "She threw up in the parking lot." Kate is a terrible liar. The statement came out fast and flustered. Cait had barely touched a drop all night, something about her new training regiment. However, it seemed to suffice your equally intoxicated brain. You began to make your out of the stuffy room and into the parking lot.
Looking across the half empty parking lot, there was no sign of Caitlin. "Kate what? Where is Caitlin?" You sounded genuinely concerned and Kates guilty conscious started to kick in. The cool breeze blew your hair into your lipgloss, the moon perfectly lighting up your face. And your shirt. Her eyes flicked over you briefly, landing on your lips before meeting your eyes. You pulled the hair off your lips. "Uhh.. I don't know." She took step closer, her hands reaching up to run her fingers over the sequin straps on your shoulders. "I like your shirt." Her eyes once again meeting yours. She quickly licks her lips. "...thanks...I-" Suddenly it hit you. Your toes were basically touching. Her hands playing with the fabric of your shirt, watching the sequins and beads roll in her fingers. "Kate we... I can't..."
Kate looks up again. "Why not?" Suddenly Kate understood liquid courage. You were silent. You didn't know why, maybe you could? I mean you really really wanted to. "You're drunk..." "So are you..." Silence fell over the parking lot. No cars, no birds, not even the wind.
Suddenly you heard the bar room door bang open, loud music and light pouring out from inside. Both of you took a frantic step away from eachother, looking towards the door. Out stumbled a very drunk Gabbie and a sober Caitlin, "Guyyyysssss I ordered an uber, we need to go back to the dorms Caitlin is sooo drunk.." Gabbie basically yelled it across the lot. The three of you exchanged a look.
As the Uber pulled out of the parking lot, the four of you sat in silence. Well, the thee of you did, Gabbie talked the whole way back into the dorms. After getting Gabbie into bed, you walked Kate and Caitlin to the door of your dorm. "Text me when your back in your dorm"
Kate just looked at you wide eyed, guilt still lingering on her face. Why, you had no clue. Nothing really happened.
Caitlin wished you a goodnight, promising to text you back and meet up for breakfast tomorrow to debrief.
Closing your dorm door, you sighed to yourself. Tomorrow was going to be interesting.
