Fave color: hmm I've been into jewel tones lately. Like sapphire and emerald.
Currently reading: i fucking wish i was reading. i keep staring at my copy of Under the Whispering Door by TJ Klune and I'm trying to will the energy to read into existence.
Last song: The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face by Gordon Lightfoot. I was listening to my current favs playlist.
Last series: To My Star 2! It was decent. I liked the first season and I think there were interesting character and relationship development choices in the second.
Last movie: oh god i cant remember the last movie I watched.
Currently working on: I currently have 7 kimchay fics I'm working on cndjkcdsjk.
1.) A canon divergence fic where when Porsche calls Porchay in the Side Story/Ep 7, he decides to tell Porchay the truth and bring him to the main family house. I just really want to play with the idea of Chay trying to keep a secret from Kim but Kim knows the truth but if Kim calls him out then Chay will know that he was lying. 2.) A fic where the Kittisawad's and the Theerpanyakul's grew up together. And Chay leaves for a year and half to study abroad and when he comes back Kim has a crisis because "oh no chay got HOT" 3.) a part three to my virginity series where Kim bottoms for the first time. 4.) a fic where I project my thirst for Kim's fighting skills onto chay. 5.) A fic im calling "Everyone's Oh Moment" where the main cast all realizes how serious Kim and Chay are about each other. 6.) an untitled fic where so far it's just Porchay and Porsche finally actually talking about their issues. 7.) an abo fic with omega kim and alpha chay (don't judge me I'm being bullied (lovingly) into writing it).
Share 10 different favorite characters from ten different pieces of media in no particular order, then tag 10 people 🎥🎬📺
1.) Kim Theerpanyakul from KinnPorsche (who is shocked he's here) 2.) Pat Jindpat from Bad Buddy 3.) Prapai from Love in the Air 4.) Lan Wangji from MDZS/The Untamed 5.) Morrigan from Dragon Age 6.) James Kirk from Star Trek 7.) Will Byers from Stranger Things 8.) Abigail from Stardew Valley 9.) Nick Nelson from Heartstopper 10.) Ann Takamaki from Persona 5
I tag @xillanelle, @pcrrycox, @jeffsaturr, @alwaysandforeverlost, @daethsticks, @andherra, @katebushgirlfriend, @vegussy, @backhand-of-the-divine and @vaughndotexe
You obviously dont have to do it if you don't want too! I just like making lists about things I like njbsajkbd. Also if you want to do this and I didn't tag you, just say I did! I love hearing about people's interests.

I WANT YOUR FEEDBACK
What are you doing today while listening to the podcast? You can send a written comment along with a picture of what you're doing while listening.
Email a voicemail message to [email protected]
Lou Gagliardi emailed: "Hi Marc, You ask people to email you to tell you what they're doing when they listen to the show. Sadly, I have no pictures to show but some good news to share
I've been researching my family history and can proudly say that I've been finding lots of Irish, Scottish and even Welsh ancestry. I have no problem sharing the names -  - Moon, Dunseath, Lowrie, Thomson, Dunn, etc.
So your show helps me connect, in a way, to family long lost physically but coming to me in a spiritual and emotional way. Thanks and keep up the great work! "
John Thompson wrote about episode #581: "Hey Marc, Just listened to the Irish & Celtic Music podcast episode 581 and I had a question. One of the last tracks was by Bren Holmes  -  -  a song called SOS. This is a cover song originally written and performed by the Swedish pop group ABBA around 1975 (yeah, I'm that old). I thought you had a policy about not playing covers as they're not "pod safe". It's a great song and I've heard MANY great covers performed at various festivals by various bands. It would be fantastic if you could play more but don't want you to get into any kind of trouble. I'm not quite sure how that works. If you could explain it briefly for your listeners maybe it would clear up the confusion."
George Mears emailed: "Marc, I've been a listener since the early days and a patron for several years. The podcast has been my companion for road trips, yard work, construction projects, and career changes; also raising two sons and all the changes 17 years brings. I've written a few times, including in 2018 when my sister and I had our own Celtic Invasion of Scotland after the death of our parents, which you shared with my fellow listeners, thank you. I took a deep stroll through the podcast archive recently, going back to selected episodes through the years. While the music has always been wonderful, it was insightful to hear the difference in your voice, energy, and personal topics from those days. Your podcast has been a shared experience for we, the listeners. Thank you for the virtual weekly meet - up that has brought so much joy. I'll be among your patrons for the next 17 years. Slainte!"

End of year book asks: 4, 10, 11, 14, 17, 25
4. Did you discover any new authors that you love this year?
New-to-me authors whose works I read more than one of and consistently enjoyed include Emily B. Martin and Jessica Townsend. Constance Savery technically isn’t a new discovery since I was already familiar with one of her books, but this year I branched out into her other children’s novels and enjoyed them a lot (for the most part).
10. What was your favorite new release of the year?
I didn’t read a lot of new releases, but I’m going to say The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, which was brilliant.
11. What was your favorite book that has been out for a while, but you just now read?
A lot of the things I read and loved have been out for a while! I’m going to go with Nevermoor, which had the third book in the series appear this year, but which I had never even heard of until it was recommended to me this year. So I missed out on some anticipation.
14. What books do you want to finish before the year is over?
Nomad by R. J. Anderson (currently in progress) and Mixed Magics by Diana Wynne Jones. That should get me to an even 260 books for the year. It would minorly bug me to stop at 259.
17. Did any books surprise you with how good they were?
The Creatures of Light series on the whole. I enjoyed Woodwalker but by the time I got to the second book, I was sucked in and got a lot more invested in the characters than I expected to be.
Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow also grabbed my attention from probably the most effective use of a prologue I’ve ever encountered and held it with the most gleefully enjoyable fantasy world I’ve visited in a long time. Took me straight back to what it was like to read books when I was younger.
An Episode of Sparrows by Rumer Godden. I don’t know what I was expecting going in, but it had depth and gorgeous prose.
Magic in My Shoes by Constance Savery. Reviews had indicated it was lighter, fluffier, and for a younger audience than her other children’s books, which was true, but that doesn’t stop Savery from making her characters compelling. I guessed the plot twist early and that didn’t affect my enjoyment at all.
Midnight Is a Place by Joan Aiken, Octagon Magic by Andre Norton, The Velvet Room by Zilpha Keatley Snyder, and Peppermints in the Parlor by Barbara Brooks Wallace. They all fall under the category of “obscure children’s books with a general haunting atmosphericness in a historical setting,” which is precisely suited to my tastes.
25. What reading goals do you have for next year?
Continuing to read/reread as much as possible. I’d like to make a dent in all the books I own but haven’t read yet, in addition to new ones and some rereads. The ridiculously long tentative list of things I hope to read in 2021 includes but is not limited to:
Mysteries (mostly Margery Allingham, Agatha Christie, Carole Nelson Douglas, and Rex Stout books I own but have been dragging my feet on)
Torch by R. J. Anderson!
A lot of middle-grade and some YA fiction from the general to-read list
The Mapp and Lucia series, which was recommended to me as “like Wodehouse but with an emphasis on female characters”
Reread of Romanov-related nonfiction
Penderwicks reread (despite suffering through the last book again)
Several classics, including Moby Dick, which somehow as an English major I’ve never read
More Elizabeth Goudge
James Herriot (new to me)
More Georgette Heyer
The rest of L’Engle’s Austin family series, which I may or may not regret
Reread of The Giver and trying out the rest of the series
Floodpath by Emily B. Martin!
Reread of The Story Girl and The Golden Road (and maybe resuming my slow progress through viewing Road to Avonlea)
Short stories from various collections
More Constance Savery
A 100 Cupboards reread
Some of the A:TLA comics
Thank you so much! I’m still taking these if anyone else wants to ask.

Ria “Thank you, your highness.”
Nessa “Come, Ria. We cannot stay.”
Rollo “Ég ætla að verða kristinn. Og giftast prinsessunni.”
------

Nicki Nelson “Nicola Nelson, First Detective of Steelburn PD.”
Stefani Ruez “You look tired.”
Agent Kerran “This is above your paygrade, detective.”

#writeyourwitchcraft
What kind of deities, if any, do I want to honor? - Morrigan, Odin, Tyche, Hestia? Home with the wisdom of abroad. I have a hard time with deities as a lifelong atheist, but they do interest me.
How do I believe magic works? - I think that personal belief affects our interpretation of our reality. If I believe I am lucky, I notice when things go my way and forget when things don’t. Magic hinges on ceremony and practice to alter our personal beliefs. If it works at all, I believe it works with a combination of animist energy exchange and positive psychology. Using your personal energy to alter your personal energy or the energy around you.
Simple or elaborate spells/rituals? Why? - Simple if simple is enough to get across what is needed. I can see the appeal of elaborate ritual for a longer-term effect, but most of my magic has been for a brief boost of confidence or a sense of calm.
What are my views on cursing/hexing? - I’m all for it, because I don’t believe in the law of threefold return. On the other hand, I don’t personally dabble in cursing or hexing because I believe the old : “Resentment is like drinking poison and then hoping it will kill your enemies.” - Nelson Mandela. I don’t want to hold on to hate.
Do I want to practice something similar to my ancestors? - It is hard to say precisely what my ancestors practiced, beyond Lutheranism. The reconstruction of Norse Paganism is not necessarily similar to how it was originally practiced, we don’t have enough sources to be faithful to the original mythos. Most of the “minor” gods are lost in all but name.

Slainte!"

week 2 character things, it’s just space lol
Captain’s log: Capt. Finely, 18:47
Days of travel: 16790
Days since removal from stasis: 2
Our premature awakening from stasis still has the crew concerned, the gap of time still seems questionable as we are 4 years ahead of schedule. Additionally, the investigation into what could be the cause of our awakening still yields no results. Dr. Morrigan assured me no technical malfunctions occurred, nor have any emergency protocols been issued - and I trust this man’s ability to find any possible computing concerns, even if his preferred company is among wires, circuit boards, and a strong mug of coffee.
O’Brien also found that there is no internal or external damage to the ship, aside from the usual external wear and tear expected from space debris. He did note a specifically large dent to the starboard hull near the med-bay, but this still is of little concern as logs show we passed through an asteroid belt not too long ago.
I’m having Dr. Nelson run bio scans every hour. She and I both agree that while nothing concerning has come up yet, it is better to be more safe than sorry. I’m honestly impressed with how she has handled these past two days. There’s no questioning her capabilities or her knowledge, but this is her first space venture - and a long first trip at that - and there’s nothing like being thrown into the deep end. I’m glad to see that she has taken this little… hiccup… in stride.
I know it’s only been two days, but sitting here looking out this porthole window… out at the vast expanse of stars knowing that most of the light that we see is from something that has long been dead… it’s a sight I will never get used to. Don’t get me wrong this isn’t my first trip amongst the stars, but every time I can catch a glimpse of the expanse that we have willingly dove into I get this uncertain feeling in my chest. It’s like when you have a loose wheel on a shopping basket. Ultimately, you know it won’t fully impede your trip to the market, but every time you move you can feel it catching on any and every little thing. Unfortunately, this little trip to the market consists of being shut in a small steel airtight lunch box and tossed into the worst version of chicken and star soup. There isn’t even any chicken… at least not any that isn’t freeze dried.
The captain pauses her log, taking a deep breath and leaning back to lie down on her bed. There is a smattering of photographs taped to the wall, and a few strands of auburn hair fall into her eyes as she cranes her neck to get a good look at them.
“I promised I’d always come back, didn’t I?”
She takes her time studying the pictures, trying to recall what each and every memory felt like. The feeling of an organic sun against her skin, not the vitamin D lamps in the med-bay. Lying on a picnic blanket in the middle of spring with pollen in the air and the sound of laughter at any sneeze. The feeling of touching actual organic grass, not the lab grown stuff that’s down the hall. The warmth that comes from being in the arms of a loved one, something that the lonely embrace of the void could never compare to.
Swimming in the memories, she loses herself to the soft beeping sound of the sensors and the otherwise quiet of the room. Long moments pass until a light knock on the door sounds, and the noise of the metal resonating throughout the room is followed by the swift swooshing of the door as it opens. The light spilling from the threshold reveals a man seemingly in his mid thirties, wearing a clean pair of denim overalls over a blue shirt that prominently features a retro sunset.
“O’Brien?”
“Captain,” the man replies from the door, his voice gruff yet still soft, “Nel- ah, Doctor Nelson is asking for everyone to meet at the bridge.”
The captain rises from her place on her bed, pulling a jacket on as she makes her way to the door. O’Brien turns then to start walking down the hallway, the sound of his boots methodically sounding against the metal flooring.
“By the way,” he continues, “she said you might want to bring your rifle”
