munchausens pride
what is munchausen syndrome?
munchausen syndrome, or facticious disorder imposed on self, is a factitious disorder in which those affected feign or induce disease, illness, injury, abuse, or psychological trauma to draw attention, sympathy, or reassurance to themselves. (from wikipedia as of dec 6 2023)
it is a mostly involuntary, sometimes delusional disorder
this disorder has a lot of stigma around it similar to BIID, but is nowhere near talked about as much within relevant communities. so as someone with munchausens I wanted to make a flag that fit my experiences with it (mostly because I couldnt find any already existing flags)
color meanings:
purple: acknowledging this is a devastating disorder caused by trauma, the serious aspects of the disorder.
pinks: destigmatizing the disorder, and faking disorders or illness for attention as a whole. (to heal from it we need to acknowledge and accept it)
white: healing, recovery, and the like. it is off white and not pure white to symbolize it will not be easy and we will never 'fully' recover, but it will get better over time.
yellow/greens: the actual illness/disorder aspect, whether its the disorder itself or the thing we're faking. as yellow and green are both associated with illnesses in color.
I ask this flag does not get used by people who purposefully fake disorders, it is up to the user to respect this, but id really appreciate it if it was. this is not for pride on faking illness/trauma, but pride for an actual, although rare, disorder.

Can we please drop the word “mental BIID”? Mental BIID is not a thing. The word you’re looking for is Munchausens, the disorder is just so stigmatized that people immediately gloss over it.

Have you played The Extraordinary Adventures of Baron Munchausen ?
By James Wallis
"Ha! welcome, dear reader, to yet another place where I, the Baron Munchausen, have managed to secret away a few more paragraphs about My game where My dastardly editor cannot find them. I must be brief, but the pen of the Munchausen's is as Swift as the arrows fired upon Me by the dragon-hunters of Northern Greenland. (They mistook Me upon My flying carpet for some new breed of Dragon. Truly, they are a useless people.) My game, then, in brief. The extraordinary adventures of Baron Munchausen is a storytelling game of My own devisement, that invites you and your stout companions to share the tales of your adventures and exploits from around, across, and (in some cases) through the circumference of the world. As each one tells his story, the others shall interject with most villainous objections and interruptions, yet the true storytellers among you will persevere. Upon the completion of each one's tale and a copious amount of drinks, the best story will be judged by all players and the next round is ready to begin."
As befits the source material, a competitive boasting game where each player attempts to spin an adventure yarn more bombastic than the last. Other players bet coins to introduce complications to the story ("But surely, Baron, is it not known that the cannibalistic cyclopes are allergic to garlic?"); the challenged can accept the coin and weave the complication in or counter with their own coin and negate the challenge. At the end of the game, each player chooses another player as their favourite story and gifts their coins to them; winner is the player with the most coins after that. A perfect game for playing at a pub or similar place where refreshments are sold

to everyone who has ever faked an illness, injury, or disorder for attention: i love you.
i know you didnt have bad intentions. i know you probably didn't even know what your intentions were. i know you likely do have some type of mental illness. and i know it makes you need attention, or that you feel like you need to have something worse to be valid. i know you just want someone to see you. i see you. you are seen and you are loved. you are not evil. you are not defined by your actions. you will recover from the consequences you may have faced for what you faked. you will find new, better ways to cope. you will be okay.

If you're going to claim this is a strawman, I refer you to the retracted Boston Children's Hospital promotional videos where one of the "doctors" literally, verbatim says, "refusing to get a haircut" as an indicator of a child being "transgender."
This is child abuse.

"Gypsy Rose Blanchard, the Missouri woman who plotted to kill her mother who had abused her and forced her to fake serious illnesses in a case that sparked a frenzy and inspired a TV series, was released from prison early Thursday."
"Blanchard had been serving a 10-year sentence on a second-degree murder charge for the June 2015 slaying of her mother, Clauddine "Dee Dee" Blanchard.
She had conspired to kill her mother with her then-boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, who fatally stabbed Dee Dee Blanchard as the daughter hid in the bathroom of her mother's home in Springfield, Missouri, the Springfield News Leader reported. Godejohn was sentenced in 2019 to life without the possibility of parole."
