If your favorite contains backing vocals, go with whatever feels right in terms of 'they are just as important as the main vocalist' or 'they are functionally another backing instrument like the guitarist or drummer.'

I know that the musicians are in fact just as important as the vocalist (obvious example: the guitar solos in classic rock, like Queen), but hopefully you get what I'm going for here.

October and Tongues & Teeth

A Crane Wives Theory

I was just reading a post by @melodyofthevoid of analysis in detail of every song from the album Safe Ship, Harbored by The Crane Wives.

As I read throught all the stories I noticed that one of them reminded me of another one.

I have a feeling that October is connected to Tongues & Teeth

Let me explain

October is a song that talks about a hopeless romantic who is willing to give everything and expecting nothing in return. They are willing to take a lover in and do anything for them, but they know that their lover will never return their feelings. "Cause there is no more room in your heart for me".

However, what is interesting about this song is that by the end the tempo starts rising, and even the beat. If you play Tongues & Teeth right after, you will notice the beat is odly similar when it starts!

In Tongues & Teeth the song talks about how this person will only hurt their lover if they stick around. They won't change by any means "I know that you mean so well, but I am not a vessel for your good intent" but if their lover is willing to take them like this they are willing to accept "If you're fine with that you can be mine like that".

I think these two songs are the different points of view of each lover. The Lover from Tongues & Teeth is warning the other person about how they will never be able to return their feelings - "Cause in the night I know you burn with feelings I cannot return my dear"- and how they will end up hurt by following them.

And the Lover from October, being fully aware of how they might get hurt, accepts giving everything they have for them - "You can have anything that you want from me" - and choose being ignorant of these hurtful actions "If you're blind to that, you can be mine like that"

More evidence for this theory is how these two lines perfectly aline with each other

October: "So kiss me quick, steal every secret I keep"

Tongues & Teeth: "And when you come in quick to steal a kiss my teeth will only cut your lips, my dear"

I don't know if this was like super obvious to everyone and I'm just dumb but I had to share it just because or I would explode. The Crane Wives brainrot is so real and it's been taking over me for like 5 months now.
