Small update on writing projects and other things so I can gather my thoughts and also hopefully feel more organized. Mostly about Symphonia, with small mentions of Adventure Time, Deltarune, Elden Ring and Dragonlance (tell me if you know this book series plz)

Still working on my Lloyd and Mithos fic which I shared a wip of here. It's slow going because it's going to involve some decent amount of dialogue and my brain is too ADHD right now for it. Thank you for those who shared interest in it! I want to finish this god help me.

Want to update my Wolf Bite fic (which is werewolf!Lloyd and Colette as Red Riding Hood) for this Halloween. I've started a chapter to continue the verse and also werewolf Lloyd is too cute. Plz look at this art by @frayed-symphony for my previous chapters that I still go crazy over.

I also want to write something for one of those October prompt events. There's a lot of them! Let me! Choose! One! I just want to make one, preferable spicy.

Speaking of October prompts, I still have this Colette time loop fic made for whumptober last year that I never finished, which was using all 31 prompts. I got over halfway! Then things happened. They always happen. 😔 I want to get to the happy ending already.

Finished Adventure Time with Sky, and now I am obsessed with a mentally-ill lemon guy. Can I write him?? Is there a point to write him?? But I also finished Fionna and Cake and now I have a small idea with the genderswap versions of him and Lumpy Space Princess (new ship). Might try it soon. And yes I will be reblogging a lot of art for this show, let me ride it out.

I am still thinking about that Deltarune Spamton fic I started like two years ago. I did have a plot but again, life happened. I'd need to reread it too. You'd think I had a problem with finishing multichapters!! Haha. 🥲 But I was able to finish my last multichapter fic so I can do it! Just gotta be lucky. I also had another short story idea with him and Jevil, and the main three. Maybe I can get to it when Deltarune finally gets chapter 3 in about five years from now lol.

The Elden Ring zine I was in finally arrived for me! It's cool seeing my fic in print 😭 I'll share later on but it's been fun being on these zine projects lately. My fic was about the Omen brothers because I have a thing for twins apparently.

Not fic but there is a new Dragonlance book by the Weis and Hickman duo?? After nearly a decade?? I saw the ebook for it on sale and immediately picked it up. This series was my gateway into writing so it does feel nostalgic to go back to this world. Only one chapter read so far (with whole new characters this time) but W&H have a knack for being really engaging in their writing. Even for their past stories when I didn't care for a plot, I still tend to finish their books.

Oh yeah, I'm also on bluesky. I use it sometimes maybe.

notes: in elains part i talk shit about The Exorcist. i’m sorry guys that movie is so so bad. Some of these are really short because i didn’t know how to elaborate LOL but yall will get the point. 

Azriel: 

This cranky bitch has beef with your kindle paperwhite. 

You took it everywhere, always made sure it was fully charged and loaded with books. You even used the app on your phone until one day you decided you would always carry your actual kindle with you everywhere. 

When he wanted snuggles and you were reading? You had pushed him away. Until one day, he’d had enough. 

It was a rough day at work, he wanted his girlfriend. He saw you on the couch, with your emotional support water bottle, his hoodie, fuzzy sock-clad feet and a blanket. And you were holding your kindle. 

He knew he wanted to join you in that cuddle pile, so he did. 

He took away your blanket which caused you to yell an indignant, “hey!” Then he spread your legs which had you saying “oh?” 

He rolled his eyes at your dirty mind and laid down on top of you. Your kindle was in the air, he laid his head between your boobs and snuggled in. 

Breathing in your scent, he hummed contentedly. 

He felt you shake with suppressed giggles, “you comfy?”

“Mhm.” He hummed, his eyes closing. 

“My big baby.” You said softly, kissing his head and running your nails through his hair. 

He didn’t need to look up to know you were still reading, just multitasking now. After all, that’s what the pop socket is for. Multitasking while reading.

He loved how happy it made you, though. He also loved the sex that came from the books that you’d want to reenact. 

Cassian: 

don't get him wrong, he loves that you wear makeup because you love it. 

however that damn plumping gloss is gonna kill him. 

“It’s spicy!” 

“You’re being a baby, it’s minty.” 

“it’s fucking spicy!” 

It’s not his fault that your gloss is out to make him croak. He can’t help kissing you though, your lips look so plump and juicy, just perfectly kissable. And the gloss tastes like vanilla cupcakes until the spice kicks in. 

Rhysand: 

He's got beef with the sims. You’ll go missing for hours in your “cozy room” as you call it, and 9 times out of 10, he’ll walk in and see you hunched over like a cave creature playing the sims. It kind of scares the shit out of him because sometimes he’ll walk in on you like that, with a murder podcast playing on your TV. 

Eventually, he loves the game. Because he discovers that you can make your own families. You two have five kids in the sims, because even Sim-Rhysand is horny. 

Eventually he gets his own PC, he’s very excited. Owns and buys you all of the sims packs. 

Feyre: 

Your IPad. You do everything on that thing. Work, planning, reading; writing, even. It’s with you all day, sometimes all night depending on the activity you’re doing. You can’t stop playing candy crush or some other game. She’s fully pulled the IPad out of your grip before to cuddle, and also a few times 

She didn’t get it until you got her her own with procreate installed. And now you’re the one who has to pry her away. She, like Rhysand, has learned the naughty things she can do with her new hobby. AKA, lots of drawings of you. 

Naked, clothed. You two together being naughty. 

She’s learned to love the wonders of an IPad. 

Morrigan: 

fucking theme parks. In the beginning of your relationship she didn’t know how to feel, eventually she fell in love with them. She used to be against them because she hated being sweaty (who doesn’t) but with your help she was able to be comfortable and enjoy a nice theme park day with her girlfriend. 

You two are out of state disney pass holders. Taking random flights on random days for a day at disney. Flying in that morning and leaving that night. Or driving for a long weekend. 

Amren: 

her competition is concerts. you’ll go to any show at any time. Your friends favorite indie band is having a show with 20 dollar tickets? sold you’ll be there. 

She’s not a fan of intense crowds, mosh pits aren’t her scene. But if there’s an artist you wanna go see and your friends can't go? She’s buying you the tickets as an early birthday or christmas gift. She’s even used mother’s day as an excuse to buy you tickets. Or Veterans Day. 

And she calls you dramatic. 

Nesta: 

she genuinely doesn’t understand how you can play video games for hours. She does love it though because you’ll leave her alone to read while you play. 

You rarely play intense games, if you do you’re playing with friends and not some random lobby (because being a woman, a queer woman no less is not fun in random online lobbies). And that’s when you go into a different room because your friends and you are quite loud. 

But when you’re playing stardew valley or any zelda, mario game, or nintendo in general; you’re sitting by her. 

Your usual set up is you both on the couch next to each other, some asmr room video in the background and a few candles lit. 

She can even admit that your video games have awesome soundtracks. 

Elain: 

horror movies. you were a fanatic. On your first date you brought this up to her, nervous she’d be against it. She was all for watching them. She had never seen them, growing up her mother forbid her daughters from watching them. It didn’t stop Feyre and Nesta, however she was a bit of a rule follower. 

She thought it couldn’t be that bad. After all, they're fictional and the effects can be very cheesy. 

However, she hid that she was scared pretty well in the beginning and then when you two saw Jigsaw that killed her “street cred” with you. (her words, not yours) 

So after the intensity of Jigsaw, you had her watch The Exorcist, a movie you thought was ass but was a good movie to introduce her to horror with. 

She ended up thinking the movie was shit, too. But, it gave her a bit of a baseline to go off of.  

After that was The Conjuring universe, then The Paranormal Activity franchise ended up freaking her out in a good way. 

She liked watching supernatural, ghost hunters, and american horror story with you though! And she did enjoy the scream franchise as well as the scary movie franchise! 

She began to love them, and loved the adrenaline. 

She liked the idea of going to a haunted house during halloween, but it scared her a bit more. It was different with a screen in between her and the scare. 

Lucien: 

Your stuffed animal collection. You personified almost everything you owned (which made it a bitch to declutter when you knew you needed to; but you couldn’t stop imagining objects with personalities). 

He loved how passionate you were, how cuddly you always looked however: 

You’re supposed to be cuddling him!! Not a damned stuffed animal! 

Then one time, he came home after a long work trip and found you asleep on the couch, you were waiting for him. 

He found you hugging a fox build-a-bear with one of his shirts on it.  

How can he hate that? 

Eris: 

His own dog is his competition. 

The fucker will cuddle with you then give him a smug ass look like “haha she chose me, she dont want you.” 

He loved the immediate love you had for his (son) pet. And he reacted to you the same way. You two formed a bond, the dog would follow you everywhere around the house. 

His dog was supposed to be a hunting dog, then when you (mom) came into the picture, that’s when you began babying him and forbidding Eris from taking him hunting. 

“My son will not go through the mud! He’s a baby!”

“My love, his whole life’s purpose is hunting. He’s a hunting dog.” 

“His life purpose is being the cute snuggly idiot he is!” Said snuggly idiot was wagging at your feet with an expression on his face that Eris could only describe as a “you go, mom!” look. 

“What if he gets hurt?” Your bottom lip wobbled and he knew he couldn’t say no to you. 

You were sensitive when it came to animals. It was pretty easy to make you cry, you just had to look at the dog being cute and you’d start bawling. 

But, he loved waking up in the morning to you snuggled into him with his beloved (but an asshole) dog with you two. 

Even when the dog pushes in between the two of you in the middle of the night. 

Tarquin: 

Surfing. He can’t believe he’s competing with his own hobby. 

He introduced you to it, but you cannot stop. You spend hours out in the ocean, and he wishes he could be out there with you all the time. But he’s always working with the city's ocean conservation teams and is the leading man in marine biology in your city.  So he can’t leave the office a lot, but when he can, he does join you in the surf. 

You two began a surfing contest to raise money for ocean conservation too.

B3: what's the best device to read on?

Laptop hands down!! I like the bigger monitor plus I have that tamper monkey extension which gives me the floating ao3 box that makes it easier to comment as I read.

Although my laptop is very old and sleep mode no longer works on it, so every night I have to shut it down. Which means some of my fic tabs which have been open for...months...have a lot of hits from me just because of the browser reloading everything when I turn my laptop on the next day.

I hate traveling with my laptop though so I always load up my kindle before going on a trip!

B8 Is there a show or book you gave up on that you went back to later, and why?

LOL I am a terrible show watcher unless I watch with other people, there are so many shows I've seen the first 2-3 eps of and have them in the back of my mind to finish later.

Untamed is actually one I originally stopped watching at episode 2 with the intention to continue but no action to back that up. About four months later I watched Love O2O on Netflix and it did that because you watched x you'd like y thing. Untamed was in that recommendation list so good job Netflix for reminding me about it!

a collection of eco friendly lifestyle ideas + swaps from various sources around the web:

reusable makeup remover wipes/cotton rounds - i use these and they’re way softer on the skin and bigger so you can use multiple times before washing either in sink or with a laundry load.

cutting products open when they are almost finished - will acc save a lot of money and means that even if buying sustainably is inaccessible to you (valid!) you can make products last for longer

freeze your overripe fruits for smoothies - all tastes the same, means you can make ur own cute lil smoothie mixes and they are often thicker!!

wash dry and reuse plastic bags - they’re almost unavoidable, but you can reuse them easily (i do this for my lunch!)

buy slow fashion - to some this might be too pricey which is totally fine!! but for my uk ppl: run and fly, lucy and yak, and fat face all look rly good and have fun clothing.

eat plant based food - you don’t have to be a vegetarian, you can do meat free monday or just choose the mcplant over a normal burger at maccies! quorn has acc aamzing chicken nuggets and often supermarkets have vegetarian aisles!

support your local farmers market - they often do not wax their apples and you will actually be able to support local businesses instead of big corporations! they also are just fun to go to :)

use a bar dish soap and a bamboo brush

to wash your body, buy bar soap and a net type pouch for it to be able to save it and exfoliate, often less expensive and not packaged in plastic, more scents or you can even make your own!! i’ve heard black african soap is rly good!

use a recycled plastic toothbrush over a normal one - you can use bamboo, but for me bc of sensory issues i can’t, so this is a nice compromise!

use beeswax wraps for food instead of clingfilm - they are more sticky and thick so accessible for people with motor issues (maybe, correct me if i’m wrong but less delicate?) and they have fun patterns and are available from lots of small businesses

instead of liquid hand soap, either use a bar soap or my preference would be a glass pump bottle and tablets that you can dissolve as i find bar soap hard to handle, but bar soap you can keep in tins!

use a reusable water bottle - you can fill them with fizzy drinks or energy drinks, there’s no rules against this!! they keep your drink cold and are sturdier then plastic, and definitely cheaper!! you can also draw on some or stick stickers on to make them more ‘you’!

use cloth napkins and ‘unpaper’ towels instead of rolls of paper towels

buy in bulk

use an ice tray or machine instead of buying big bags from the store - less heavy definitely, and you can add fruits and make ice pops with trays!!

use a refillable or natural deodorant- i use wild (uk ppl!!) and it smells nice, the refills are easy and come in paper and i have a rly cute metal holder!!

you can get reusable cupcake papers - esp for my ppl who like the lick the bottom, they won’t fall apart XD!

use a kindle - reduces the amount of paper books you have to buy, easily transportable, can lend books out to ppl and cheaper books!

bring your own lunch - esp if ur a picky eater like me, i often bring a cheese sandwich and some crisps places so i’m not stuck not eating or choking down food i don’t like and leaving leftovers, also means you can use your own plastic tupperwares instead of store bought single use things lol

grow your own things - i used to grow strawberries as a child and it was surprisingly easily, some ideas are bottle tower gardens and a kitchen herb gardens, you can also grow cat grass and catnip for all my cat parents out there :)

collect rainwater for your plants - just keep a mason jar in your backyard if you have one, or journey out when it’s raining and fill a jar, will last you a bit!!

With the disclaimer that I've yet to finish all of your Dreamling fics (I've been reading them in the very random order of "I'm in the mood for this length" and "this premise sounds particularly neat". Wings is loaded up on my kindle to be read over the new year's!), after careful consideration this is my top three (in the order I'm feeling right now, which will probably very with my mood):

The long way down (I've loved the "actually the afterlife sucks" trope since reading His Dark Materials as a teen, plus I think your story is a particularly good fix-it because on top of foiling Dream's suicide attempt it provides a very good explanation for why he doesn't try again), An act of faith (first fic of yours I read. I found it by virtue of it being literally the ONLY fic in the vampire AU tag at the time I first thought I wanted to read one, so I'm eternally grateful for its existence), Dulce et decorum est (making Dream's imprisonment worse!!! Having Hob rescue him!!!).

Special mention to The Wine-Dark Sea for STILL being the only thing with "sirens" as a tag (and, of course, being utterly amazing and beautifully written and unhinged in all the best ways). I love AUs that have Dream as a different supernatural being, but I have a hard time finding them. Idk if there aren't many or I'm not looking at the right tags or what.

sorry I suck at leaving comments, I read on kindle and the most I manage to do with the browser is leave anonymous kudos. We started out mostly as just chatting on Tumblr, but then their little side showed and we only progressed from there. They wanted to give me a nickname since I have so many for them (munchkin, little love/dove, my sweet/darling/precious baby) and because I really really like jellyfish, they chose the name Squishy. So now, I get variations of that name like squish squish (that seems popular). There were some mental health days early on and I wasn't quite sure how to handle them, but the reassurance that they aren't needy, or annoying, or anything else but perfect was what they needed.

And to all of the littles out there that think they are 'needy', remember this:

Your needs were not met as a child. Because of this, you are doing your best effort to make up for that lost time, which (to idiots who don't have eyes) can seem needy. It is not. You are valid, you are human, and you are loved. (If nobody loves you, then you're wrong - I do 🥰🥰)

4. Oh I think I discovered load of new authors - I found a crime series from Karin Slaughter about Will Trent and I truly think it's very good (the main character is dyslexic). Frederik Backman, and Celest Ng - The Little Fires Everywhere is really amazing book. I also discovered a lot of authors writing m/m romances like M.A. Wardell, Ben Alderson, Alexis Hall, and Rachel Reid - of whom Heated Rivalry I truly recommend.

20. It might be a disappointment but I don't follow releases that much. I just go with the flow, look what ppl recommend, have my own tbr to go through. So I guess I don't have any anticipated release.

25. Oh wow - that's interesting, because I usually don't set any reading goals, as I know myself too well lol. However, I'd like to:

go through more books on my tbr (this year I've managed to read 12 from the list which is quite good)

I've seen Oppenheimer and found the movie and the topic fascinating, so obviously I bought the book on which it was based. However, it is massive book. Written in very small font, and as I'm used to reading on my kindle it will be a challenge to go through it.

I've also seen Peasants (beautifully made movie, highly recommend) - and I was inspired to go through that book as well. I've started, but it's really long and really convoluted, so that's another goal. To finish it!

I'd really like to do some sort of reading challenge - maybe I'll persuade my friend to do that with me. Or I'll find a good one somewhere in the internet. It would be fun to do something like that with other people and then talk about it with them. Maybe some discord chat already exists so if anyone knows about them let me know 😚

I want to include longer fanfics I read on my read list, bc they are totally worth it!

Anyway, so yes, I can definitely rec you some fics! BUT I should also offer you two suggestions you can totally do to read ANY fic!

On Ao3, you can click on the “Entire Work” button to load ALL chapters of a fic (it’s the very first button along the top) and in turn you can then just read it all there! 

And the very last button along the top, you can Download copies of the fic to your phone or computer with eBook file types (AZw3 for Kindle, ePub for iPhone’s Books app, and MOBI is for other mobile devices and e-readers), the HTML if you want to read it as-is in a web-browser, or the PDF format which is a universal file format that is supported by everything, even web browsers, so it’s a good one to download if you don’t know what format you need :) If you read on an eReader, though, I can’t recommend enough just downloading the format for your device. You get to keep a copy of the fic AND the eReader keeps it nicely formatted. It’s a BRILLIANT, BEAUTIFUL feature that Ao3 gave us, because I like downloading all my fics and read them later in iBooks. Once you start that, Nonny, you can’t do it any other way. AND at the VERY END of the fics, it links BACK to the original post so you can bookmark, kudos, and comment on it!! <3

So yeah, two options you can do to solve your poopy internet and still read long fics hee hee! <3

I love Penelope Douglas for sure check her out! She writes some of the best smut tbh. I’m working my way through her devils night series right now-I’m on book 2. It’s good so far, definitely dark though. I’m interested to see how she goes about a redemption arc for the character Damon right now I don’t think he deserves one but I hear such good things about his book, Killswitch, but that’s book 3 so I will see how it goes. I definitely recommend Birthday Girl from her though I loved it and the couple from it are my favorite age gap could I’ve ever read. I find myself still re reading some of their best moments.

I am slightly embarrassed by Credence though so I hope it doesn’t bother you too much if you read it. Just so you know before going into it, it is about her and her step uncle/cousins. To be fair they are not blood related and very distance to the point she didn’t even know about them. But she does call him Uncle Jake during a sex scene, and the two others call her cousin during one too. There’s also a MMF scene with her two cousins. But on top of that there is a sexual assault scene (it does get stopped but the intent is there)-personally I wasn’t a fan of how she inwardly dealt with that scenario it felt like she was blaming herself for it instead of holding the other character accountable. Uncle Jake also does kiss her when she is still 17. So if any of that makes you uncomfortable don’t read it.

I’m so happy you liked the atlas six as much as I did. I can’t believe we have to wait until next year for the sequel to see what happens. It’s too long!! I also liked Callum the least, I still appreciated his character though and what he brings to the story I just wasn’t a fan of his, probably because of his problems with Libby/Parisa. Plus his powers terrify me-as someone who likes to have full control of my emotions the fact that someone could just change everything scares me. I also loved Nico he is my typical character that I love the whole I’m an asshole but soft and caring for the people I love gets me every time. Parisa is my queen though I’m obsessed with her. Like I’m literally in love with her, I wish she was real so she could be with me instead. Not that she would because I’m broke have 0 magic or power to give to her, but still. But I have a thing for power hungry women so I was gone the second I met her. But anyway if she was real she could destroy me or do anything she wanted to me and I would say thank you. Reina I also love and agree she could destroy the whole planet and one day probably will. I just love how she is there and wants all that knowledge but also doesn’t give a fuck about anyone else. Tristan also grew on me I’m still not completely sure how much I like or don’t like him yet he gets annoying sometimes because he is constantly in his mind about his alliances but I also love how loyal and caring he is. Libby is my girl!! I also relate to her as well since I was an outcast and battled inadequacy and all that (you and I must have some stuff in common!) Out of all the characters I relate to her the most and am rooting for her so hard-also because the author made her from Pittsburgh and I’m also from the area so I felt personally attached. But Olivie just did an interview and said Libby is getting a corruption arc and I am so excited about it!!

Okay ships- so I will be honest and I think it’s an unpopular opinion but oh well-I am a nicolibby stan. They have every single dynamic that I love in a ship and they could potentially be my favorite book couple of all time if that is the road they are being taken. Honestly I was obsessed with them from their first interaction so i have it bad for them. Obviously I know they were not romantic in this book but the potential (at least for me) was there especially in some of their quotes in the end. I fully believe they are soulmates though-even the author said they were born on the same day and feel like their other half is missing in an interview once-whether that will be platonic soulmates or romantic soulmates I have no idea and I could see either happening. My heart will break if it is platonic but it’s okay I can just live in my own little head about their potential.

But I get the idea and also like both libbytristan and NicoGideon and could see those happening instead of nicolibby too. I wouldn’t say I would be mad about it either-I do like both just to me the potential of nicolibby works more for me! My only thing about libbytristan though is I’m not sure how much of their tension/feelings are real (like did any of it exist before Parisa put the idea of the other person in their thoughts to lead to all the feelings.)

Weirdly enough since they probably my least favorite characters I also adore Tristan and Callum together. Their dynamic just works for me.

And I love Parisa and Dalton too and I’m so interested in how that relationship pans out because they have some stuff to figure out. But they work well together and honestly they are just so sexy together so I’m down for it. Although I do ship myself with Parisa more than her and Dalton but I’m biased.

Honestly though all the ships are wide open though so I’m curious to see what ends up being endgame. But omg yes the twist I was not expecting it-I’m so excited for the rest of this trilogy!!!

In other news though I finished up the ravenhood series. I know you said you either read it or it was on your tbr. But god I loved it. That series broke me and then put back all the pieces. If you haven’t read it and want to feel both heartbreak and happiness I highly recommend it!

I've been sifting through a bunch of summaries of Penelope Doulgas' work on Goodreads and there's a bunch of stuff there I think I'd enjoy. I'm all about good smut. I didn't realize she had that many books. I'm excited! Thanks so much for the rec! I love dark romances/erotica every now and again so I'm also going to have to dive into the Devil's Night series at some point.

Oh, and idk if you know about it/read it but a couple of my friends told me about the Crossfire series by Sylvia Day a while back. It's BDSM, like Fifty Shades, but supposedly loads better. I don't know if you're into that but I figured I'd just throw it out there anyway. The smut is supposed to be steamy. I haven't read it yet but I do have the first four novels on my Kindle (where they've been sitting, unread, for about 2 years now)...so that's something haha.

And please don't be embarrassed about Credence. Seriously, the most wonderful thing about reading is you can go wherever tf you want in your imagination. No one can stop you. There are no rules. No restrictions. You can be whomever or whatever you want to be for a while, morality notwithstanding. One of my favorite things about books is that I can experience the most bonkers, outlandish out-of-this-world stuff that I'd never dream of wanting/liking in real life. It's liberating!

Thank you for the trigger warnings, though. I appreciate that. None of them sound off-putting enough to keep me from reading it. (Tbh, I want to read it more now.) I've read loads of books where characters marry or have sex with their cousins or siblings *waves at ASOIAF, the Secret History* so it doesn't bother me. I've also read most of Lolita and all of My Dark Vanessa by Kate Russell, which both romanticize pedophilia in disturbing degrees, so it takes a lot to put me off. If curiosity could kill then I'd be long dead by now. Hell, sometimes I will purposely read things I know will upset me to my core. What can I say? I'm a weirdo. 🙃

I DON'T WANT TO WAIT A YEAR FOR BOOK 2 OF THE ATLAS SERIES, EITHER. AHHHHH. How am I going to make it that long? It seems so far away!

Callum is the most terrifying of them all right now, imo. I think that's why I disliked him the most. Like you, it shook me to my core to imagine someone like him being able to toy with my emotions. I have a tendency to detach, to keep my emotions pressed close to my chest so that I can't be manipulated or hurt, and the idea that someone could have power over them, over me in that way is...no freaking thank you! I would put as much space between him and me as possible. Most of the Atlas crew had the right idea there. He does bring a lot to the story, though, like you said. I have a feeling he's going to be one of those characters I "love to hate" as the series progress. I might even grow to "hate to love" him, idk. He's just such a shady bastard! And so judgmental/mean to the girls.

I'm with you on Parisa, by the way. She's the kind of conniving, ambitious siren of a woman I can get behind. She has a similar vibe as Katherine Pierce on TVD. I mean, there's nothing in her arsenal she won't use and I love how she weaponizes her beauty. It's delicius. She's unpredictable. Definitely the type of character who inspires "scared and aroused" energy any time she walks into a room. Like, she could choke you and instead of crying you'd just ask her to do it again...harder lol.

Reina has the same kind of "no fucks given" attitude I have because I genuinely don't care what people think of me, either. I'm just here to do my thing. Be nerdy. Learn. Whatever. And Nico is my fave for the same reason as you--the asshole who only has soft edges for those who matter to him. *heart eyes*

Omg, Libby is going to have a corrupted arc? AHHHHH. That's going to be amazing, I cannot stinking wait! I was sort of hoping she'd go dark so now that it's confirmed I'm even more pumped. Also, I think you and I have more in common than either of us realized. I'm from the Pittsburgh area, too! How wild is that? Maybe there's something in the water here and that's why, like Libby, we've both felt inadequate and like outcasts at different points in our lives? Olivie might be onto something here...🤔

The thing that's been so cool for me about this series so far is that there are a bunch of potential pairings I could get behind. And I kind of like that it's not clear cut right now. Most series I know who I want together or who will be together like halfway through book 1. I like that I don't know have firm preferences and am still open. That's novel. Not to mention fun!

I don't blame you for shipping Nicolibby so hard, though. They're definitely one of my top contenders for a romantic pairing. They have that enemies-to-lovers element with witty banter that I always gravitate toward. And you're right about Libby/Tristan. I don't know how much of their connection was manufactured because Parisa intervened, either. That'll be fun to puzzle out moving forward. And Callum/Tristan should NOT be a ship I like but they have a palpable something that I can't put my finger on. I've got my eye on them, for sure.

The Ravenhood series is still on my tbr. I'm so happy to hear you enjoyed it so much, though! It's rare to read something that just ticks all your boxes. The next time I'm the mood to binge a series I'm gonna have to pick that one up. :-D

I've been trying to clear out my backlog of ARCs lately. (Not possible because I'm getting more on the regular - as in constantly haha - but I'm trying.) I just finished Wish You Were Here by Jodi Picoult, which has a Sliding Doors premise that is set during the pandemic where the main character has a parallel life experience (one, where she's in the Galapagos Islands on vacation when the shutdown hits so she's stuck there with strangers, alone, not speaking the language; the other, where she's in Manhattan with her surgeon boyfriend and recovering from COVID). It's intense but so, SO good! Picoult is such a good writer. Anything I've read by her has been moving, with rounded and real characters. I haven't been disappointed yet. I so recommend her.

Oh, and if you're into nonfiction/biographies at all I finished The Splendid and the Vile by Erik Larson not long ago, which is about Winston Churchill as well as those around him, and it was fantastic! Read more like fiction. I loved it. I am no longer surprised it was on all the BEST lists for 2020.

I can’t tell you guys how happy and excited I was when I got my hands on this book. The way the FB&A ended, I needed this story more than I needed to breathe. I needed answers. I needed more Kieran. I needed more Cas and Poppy. Thankfully, I got what I needed in A Kingdom Of Flesh and Fire!

Let’s start with what I didn’t like first to get it out of the way. First off, much like the previous book, we are given a boat load of information in the first half of the story. Like I said with my last review, it was overwhelming at times. I felt like I needed to take notes lol But I guess that’s just how fantasies are? I wouldn’t really know since I don’t read many, so maybe this is just an issue for me. However, I would recommend to take your time while reading this book so you can absorb everything you learn. And take some breaks in between. You’re gonna need it.

Second thing I didn’t like, well more it frustrated me, was Cas and Poppy being stubborn as hell with their feelings for one another. The torture and tension I had to go through just so they could realize they both really loved each other and it wasn’t one sided was frustrating. I mean, I guess I expected this. More from Poppy than Cas though since we’ve known already she didn’t think Cas’ feelings for her were genuine. But god, he did SO MANY things in this book that proved her wrong and she still wouldn’t believe it - even when others would say otherwise, too. Thankfully, this all gets resolved. So if you get frustrated like me, just stick it out lol

Surprisingly, despite how maddening Poppy and Cas made me their romantic journey and development in this one was one of the things I enjoyed. When they weren’t being stubborn, I had a blast reading all their interactions. If you’re wondering whether any of the scenes in this book will live up to the snowy forest one in book 1, don’t fret friends. These two still got all the heat! They also still know how to tug at my heart and make me smile. I really do love them a lot.

I also love how much Kieran we got in this one. I was very curious about him in book one, so having him show up so much in here was great. We got to learn more about him, his family, and his bond with Cas. This lead to meeting some new characters, which I also adored immediately and am looking forward to more of them in the upcoming books!

The plot of AKOF&F was just as exciting as FB&A. Especially in the second half. In the first half, you’re more reading to get answers and info. Second half is where the action happens. But its all worth reading. You really do get sucked into the story, it’s hard to put down. We get some answers we’ve been dying to know, while leaving us with more questions. And as seems to be the trend with this series, we are left with a whopper of a cliffhanger. Dare I say, even bigger than the last. It goes without saying that I am already clamoring for book 3!

So, there you have it. If you loved FB&A, you need to pick up this book. You don’t want to miss what happens next!

Rick’s Christmas Miracle

I originally started this short fic last Christmas but got stumped on wrapping it up, so it gathered dust till this year. I cobbled together an ending that I guess is ok. I seem to have done a few of these ‘Rick delivers supplies to Negan’ fics but hey...it’s how it should be. Fuck canon. Lol!

“You sure you want to make the trip? Snow might still be deep off the roads.”

Heath was reluctant to let Rick and Silver pass through Alexandria's gates.

“I'm a week late.”

“A few more days wouldn't hurt. What if you don't make it back in time?”

Nobody knew the real date anymore. Together, the town had crafted a new calendar, guessing the positions of holidays. Christmas sat only a few days away on their chart of time's passage.

“I'll be back in time.”

Heath pursed his lips, but his only comment was: “Hopefully the cold took care of that vermin. Then you won't have to do this anymore.”

He was too good to question Rick directly. It wasn't Rick's integrity he hated...just the current recipient of it. Everyone in town had an opinion. Sure, Negan had done something or another to help Alexandria.... but did he really deserve a monthly drop-off of supplies indefinitely?  

“Hopefully,” Rick mummered, and Heath finally stepped out of his path. The truth was, Rick enjoyed the trip. He liked getting away.

He maybe even liked seeing Negan... but no way, no how. He wouldn't go so far as to say that.

Heath's concerns were for nothing. The driving snows that had delayed this supplies drop had melted into slush. Silver slipped a few times on the sodden ground. But overall, the old mare was happy to be free from her stable. She moved at a steady pace, carrying Rick to the outskirts of Negan's 'neighborhood'.

He paused on the slight incline above the empty array of cookie-cutter homes. Strangely, his heart pounded in his chest. Maybe Heath was right, and cold had done Negan in. It'd been three weeks since his last visit. Starvation was surely a possibility as well.

Despair. If Negan's thoughts were anything like the dark things that fluttered through Rick's mind... there were other reasons for death as well. Loneliness could kill.

He sucked in a breath, feeling stupid. His personal vermin would be doing him a favor by lying there dead, wouldn't he? His eyes scoured the rooftops, and that breath came out in a rush. His heart bobbed upwards.

Smoke rose from the farthest chimney.

“Guess we're still delivering, girl.”

They trotted into Negan's 'yard'. He snorted. The man somehow knew Christmas was nearing. He'd decorated with a shoddy plastic wreath on the door, and tinsel draped over Lucille's cross. At least Negan didn't have to bother with lights – considering he had no electricity. Rick wasn't surprised to see a large, lopsided snowman standing near the front door.

He turned to Silver. “Well, a child does live here.”

He did his custom two knocks with a pause before the third. No answer. Negan must have gone on an errand.

Rick sighed. He supposed he could drop the stuff and leave.

He turned back to face the yard, noticing the snowman's face from this angle. Two rock eyes and a pebble mouth. A tree-root nose, because even if Negan had found a carrot, he wouldn't waste it here. Stick arms. Rick's eyes dropped to what passed for a snowman's crotch. A thick stick jutted outwards.

He raised his cane, debating knocking off the wooden woody, when he heard a sound from the nearby woods. He tensed, until he caught sight of the leather jacket and bright red hat. Negan emerged from the trees, huffing as he pulled a child's sled behind him. It was loaded with sticks and wood.

The predictable stupid smile came across the other man's face. “Hey, Prick! See you're admiring my friend there. I modeled him after me, you know. Long and thick.”

The warming air was making Frosty's stick droop in the melting snow. Rick smirked.

“It's been cold as fucking hell,” Negan let go of the sled once he was closer. “Been snowed in for a few days. And hungry. Where have you been?”

“It snowed all over, Negan.”

“Yeah.” Negan scratched at his chin. He was growing his beard out again. He looked a bit like a lumberjack. He'd replaced his old red scarf with a red-and-black checked one. “I thought maybe you were hoping I'd croak from the elements.”

“I could never be so lucky.”

Negan pouted. Rick unbuckled Silver's saddlebag. “If I'd known you were doing the beard thing, I wouldn't have brought more razors.”

“Just for the winter. Any more pork n' beans?”

“Nope. We're fresh out.”

“Fuck...”

“Annie has been baking though. I brought you some pecan pie.” Rick hefted the saddlebag and nodded at Negan to take the other.

“You didn't bring me any figgy pudding?”

Rick let out a laugh. “Oh damn. Left that back on the kitchen counter. Has anyone actually eaten figgy pudding...?”

“Well, you know what they say...” Negan bounded in front of him, swinging open the door to his home. Rick hoped he'd used his snowed-in time to clean that fucking pig-sty. “You won't go until I get some.”

Rick raised an eyebrow as Negan stood just inside the threshold. He'd known the man long enough to recognize that devious glint in his eyes.

“Guess I ain't going then...” Despite Heath's worries, Rick wasn't entirely eager to spend Christmas in Alexandria. Sure, seeing his people be festive and merry was great and all, but Carl was away at the Hilltop and Andrea...

He pushed that thought away.

“Heh. That means I'll have to cook something. Hope you like dog food casserole.”

Rick paused in the doorway, narrowing his eyes. “Negan, can you move-”

“Here, gimmie.” Negan grabbed the saddlebag from him and dropped them on the floor. Rick tried to peer around him, wondering what he was hiding. Maybe he was embarrassed because the house was still a mess. “Well, well. Would ya look at that?” Negan grinned wide, pointing a finger upwards. “I was hoping a hot chick would happen by one of these days... but I'll take what I can get.”

“You've got to be kidding me.”

Fake mistletoe was tacked on the door frame above their heads.

“You know the rules. Pucker up, Grimes.”

“Ugh.” Rick shoved past him into the besotted bachelor pad. “I am not kissing you.”

“But it's the holiday fucking tradition.”

Rick ignored that, stepping out from under the accursed plant. “Just empty the bags, Negan.” He stood in the room, surveying the mess.

The big man pouted as he began to unpack his supplies, setting them in a pile. Canned food, razors, the pie. A pair of warm gloves. Other things, like matches and a canister of kindling sticks. He'd brought extra food this time. Probably a good thing. Under the beard, Negan looked like he'd lost even more weight.

“You ever thought of moving...?”

“Why? You sick of coming out here? You don't have to, you know...” Negan held the pie in both hands, casting his eyes down to it. “I'm fine. I don't need your fucking charity.”

“No. Just wondering what keeps you here.”

“One dump is the same as another...” Negan set the pie down. “And Lucille...” He trailed off, and Rick felt a pang of sympathy.

He wondered what it would be like if he came out here and found the house vacated. If Negan was finally out of his hair.

Weird how it caused the same ache as Carl's absence and the empty silence of his home. He collected the saddlebags and headed for the door.

“You want any pie...?”

“I got so many pies and cakes at home I can't even keep up.” Rick knew Annie and the others were drowning him in sweets out of pity.

“Oh...” Negan sounded disappointed, but Rick couldn't think of any good excuses to stay. He'd delivered the supplies. Now it was time to leave.

“Maybe I can bring you some figgy pudding next time...” Rick said lightly. He didn't know why he cared- but he wanted to dispel that forlorn look in Negan's eyes. He knew what it was like to spend this holiday alone, with nothing to warm the heart.

“Yeah...maybe.” Negan followed him to the front door, his gaze flitting up to the mistletoe as Rick paused under it. Rick snorted. No way, no how that he was gonna follow that tradition-

Fuck it.  Maybe he could warm Negan's season just a tiniest bit. Or just simply deliver a good ole mindfuck, the present Negan had given him so many times over the years.

Old Man Rick could still move fast when he wanted – even on his bum knee. And his aim was still precise as fuck. He turned, and landed a rough smooch right on Negan's mouth.

They both had chapped lips, so it was a strange slide of dry skin catching on itself. Rick didn't linger, but settled back on his feet, clutching his cane tight. He chuckled softly as a  flush as red as Santa's suit spread across Negan's cheeks.

“Merry Christmas, Negan.”

And lo, how Rick beheld a Christmas Miracle!

“...shit...Rick...” Negan sputtered, after a stunning thirty seconds of silence... “I uh...I was just joking, you know...”

“Uh huh...” Rick grinned as he began to strap on Silver's saddlebags. “Sure you were. And as it looks like it's gonna snow again...you're so not going to ask me to spend the night, right?”

“Uh...no..” The lying fuck shifted on his feet, his cheeks still like roses. “....but if you want to-”

“No. You've only got one bed. And my cane takes up a lot of space.”

There was another blessed span of quiet, but maybe shorter than the last. Rick didn't mind. He couldn't expect two miracles in a row-

“Fucking Christmas miracle...” Negan stood owl-eyed, as Rick clambered atop the old mare. ��...Prick Grimes...making a dick joke...?”

Rick just chuckled, shook his head, and spurred Silver away, to his empty and cold home back in Alexandria .

But when he arrived, it was lit and warm and he smelled one of Annie's endless pies warming in the oven.

Carl and Lydia had trekked the snowy roads from the Hilltop just for him, their happy presence marking the third Miracle of Rick Grime's Christmas season.

“Next time...” he said, to a befuddled Carl, his mouth full of fresh pecan pie, “...Remind me to pack some chapstick for Negan.”

That tea post from yesterday reminded me of a genuine pet peeve that is vaguely thematically relevant to this blog

There are several stereotypes around a person who says “I love reading” which I don’t fit, and which piss me the hell off. 

1) That someone who loves reading has read “the classics” and that if they haven’t their reading doesn’t count.

2) That someone who loves reading is meticulous about the state of their books, and again, that if they don’t use a bookmark or whatever, they are less so. 

Now, me? I’ve read very few of the usual ‘classics’ canon and enjoyed even fewer (although I’m going to give Charles Dickens and Thomas Hardy another go). 

I also bookmark my page by splaying the book spine up wherever I was reading it, in a best-case scenario it’s open on the edge of a table or something. I have dropped many, many books in the bath, or the kitchen sink. (Also my Kindle. Pro for paperbacks.) When I was an even weirder kid, I used to rip the white edges of pages off and chew them like chewing gum. 

If it’s an enjoyable book, that’s all I care about.

If I can still read the text and reliably open and close the book without anything falling out, that’s all I care about. 

I don’t tend to collect books. I don’t tend to read hardbacks, so quite frankly even if one of my paperbacks fails one of those tests? I’ll just buy a new one.

And I am a fucking rabid reader and have been for my entire life. (I can read one-handed, for example, to enable me to read while brushing my teeth/eating)

And it just pisses me off. No I’m not reverent towards something I use every single fucking day. 

And ANYWAY this raises an interesting question about Blanks

Blanks are even more disposable than your average paperback, they’re just mirrors, unless you pay for the expensive collector’s ‘permanent’ version. Yet we see Wolfe treat Blanks very carefully, and as @blessedharlot pointed out in their last reread, we see Jess bluescreen over seeing a load of Blanks getting burned at the start of Ash and Quill (although was that due to his extensive experience with originals and kind of transferring the emotion??). 

So Blanks seem to get a fair bit of respect in setting. Which is fine, if vaguely interesting. Any thoughts to add to my word vomit?

aw that's sad to hear, I love the feel of a physical book, thats why i never bought a kindle! ive never heard of either of them!! ill check them out and get back to you :)) ive had my twitter for a while but i never posted much, half way through this year i started using it for Louis and fics which has honestly been so great, i do love it on there. but i will say, i had no idea that there would be so much drama within the fandom... like even just Louies it's crazy to me.

i do use tiktok, its dangerously distracting! my fyp is a load of one direction stuff, fanfics, random funny vids and celeb interviews... i need more kittens on my fyp and food, i will never say no to food
