NADJELA OF BATELA: ADVENTURES IN THE ANCIENT CONGO
Ladies, gentlemen, and non-binary peeps,
I am happy to announce that my latest book, Nadjela of Batela: Adventures in the Ancient Congo, is now available on the Amazon Kindle Store!
"It is the first century AD, and the empire of Rome has grown into one of the largest in the history of the Mediterranean. Forged with cold sharp iron over the course of centuries, Roman authority now stretches as far afield as the floodplains of Egypt to the south, the sands of Judaea to the east, and the frigid woodlands of Gaul and Britannia to the north. Yet that is not enough for Rome. Their latest designs are on the equatorial heart of Africa, hoping to expand from there to conquer the whole continent and its innumerable riches…riches enough to support a campaign of world conquest. There is one person who stands in the way of these ambitions. She is Nadjela, the proud and fierce Crown Princess of Batela. Together with her trusty leopard companion Ishaga, Nadjela will come face to face with both local adversaries and the wrath of the Roman Empire over the course of four adventures. Will her courage and martial ability, and the blessing of her god Nyambe the Creator, be enough to defend all of Africa and the world beyond?"

Reasons why you should read… Wings of Fire!!
Random LONG-ASS post but idc because this has been my favorite book series since 3rd grade and I still HEAVILY fixate on it - for anyone interested (after I explain ofc) These books are by Tui T. Sutherland and are available in audiobook, paperback, hardcover, and Kindle I think.
Reasons you might enjoy WoF and features of the books!
-creative character designs
-full plot with little to no holes and if there are any, they’re probably explained in one of the MANY side books available.
-well-written characters that can be powerful without being a “Mary Sue” and having their own personalities
-each book follows a different protagonist, sometimes with the protagonist switching up mid-book
-a prologue and epilogue in each book
-15 main books released so far with more coming!!
-STUNNING cover art
-the main characters are dragons!!
-Written like those fanfics where you read them and you forget you’re reading a fanfic but it’s still not quite written like an ‘official’ book, y’know?
-descriptive writing so you don’t have to imagine stuff in weird vague ways
-LOTS OF LGBTQIA+ rep! Including but not limited to: mlm rep, wlw rep, non-binary/non-conforming rep - and the best part about it? It’s casually brought up! It’s normalized! Not even the villains or shitty parents show an OUNCE of homophobia or transphobia!
-There are humans in these books! And POC rep!
-women in leading/strong roles :3
-different continents!
-different tribes of dragons each sharing similar traits depending on their habitat!! NOT JUST RANDOMIZED DRAGONS EVERYWHERE ALL MIXED TOGETHER WHERE YOU DONT EVEN KNOW WHO CAN DO WHAT!!
-Each book features a map of the continent it’s set on, a description of the dragons of each tribe living on that continent (including looks, powers, diet, affiliation in war depending on the book, and current Queen) and a page for the prophecy the book fixates around (different for each arc)
-Three arcs, each solving a different conflict but STILL IN THE SAME PLOT!!
-creepy mind-control stuff!
-well-written villains
-lines that have made me CACKLE out loud multiple times
-TONS OF SIDE BOOKS WITH EXTRA LORE/INFO IN THEM!!
-and so much more! Read them for yourself to find out!!
ALL THE BOOKS IN ORDER PLUS THE NAME, SPECIES AND A PICTURE OF THE PROTAGONIST IN PARENTHESES:
THE DRAGONETS OF DESTINY ARC: 1) The Dragonet Prophecy (Clay of the Mudwings)

Tumblr media
13) The Poison Jungle (Sundew of the Leafwings) (MY FAV BOOK YIPPEE)

Hey my publisher finally got my book series, The Silent Trilogy, up on Apple Books! Check it out!!!
My publisher calls Silent Trilogy 'X-Men meets Good Omens'. That's not wrong but it is a series about abuse, colonialism and the importance of love in ways those aren't.
Tumblr media
In more detail: the Silent Trilogy is an urban fantasy series set primarily in Hobart, Australia. It tells the story of the dainisa, a not-so-hidden magical community, focused primarily on their non-binary Princess, Torao Yamaguchi.
Desperate for her child to have a better life than she did, the leader of dainisa Amaya Yamaguchi sparks a revolution to claim Australia as a magical continent where dainisa can live in accordance with their own laws, not those of humans. However fighting power is a complex thing in a world built to function on injustice, and a pretty siren desperate for revenge could ruin it all…
Narrated through the eyes of a human who doesn’t quite get it, the Silent Trilogy is about the narratives we build of history. It's an exploration of trauma, the ways people learn to live with it, and how bigotry works. Also there's angels and demons messing things up. More info on the website!
I finished this series a long time ago but I'm still very proud of it!! It's a niche story I had a lot of fun with. I wrote this NB protag before I even came out myself so that's always cool. And every time I have to reread a part of the series I have a really hard time stopping cos I enjoy my own work so much lmao. So hopefully you'll enjoy it too!!
(it's also on Amazon if you prefer kindle, and if you don't wanna support either, well, chuck me a couple dollars on Patreon)

Forgetting I can post old stuff again. ID under the cut
Tumblr media
No creatures this time because idk. Based off my first impression from the Kindle sample alone don’t come after me pls
[Start ID: the killer T cell and macrophage from Cells at Work: Lady in full color and shading against a blurred background of the inside of a building. Killer T is wiping blood from their hands and has a non binary flag pin on their cap. Them and macrophage are talking: T says “so I mopped the floor with those assholes,” and macrophage disapprovingly replies “don’t mop the floor with dead people.” T says “yeah no it’s like, a thing that people say-“ and Macrophage finishes with “that’s disgusting. You’re disgusting.” End ID.]

3, 4, 5, 15, 18
:D Thank you!!!
From this ask game!
3. What’s your favorite fic that you’ve written?
God, it's hard to pick. Definitely a tie between a thousand pics and one night with me. Both are very near and dear to my heart for different reasons. A thousand pics was what got me back into publishing and really blew up and became a much bigger project than I ever intended, and I still have so many ideas for it. One night is really fun in that it's not only, well, really fun to write smut, but it's also fun to write a fic that takes place in the broad area/state I grew up in! Really cool to get to talk about places I've been a thousand times haha
4. How many WIPs do you have right now?
Currently, I technically have four, but only three are actively being worked on. A thousand pics, one night, and a secret third project that I'm writing and then dropping all at once, plus psych ward, which is currently on the backburner and I'm not actively working on.
5. What’s a fic idea you’ve had that you will never write?
Very early on in my time with the fandom I had the idea for a rejanis fic with a trans masc/non-binary Janis. I still like the idea, but I just don't have any actual plot to go along with it, so unless I suddenly get struck with inspiration for an actual plot, it'll forever just remain a concept in my brain and a few thousand works in a Google Doc.
15. How do you come up with titles for your fics/chapters?
Depends on the fic! Psych Ward is the outlier because it's the only fic where the chapters have titles, but so far, none of those titles have been song lyrics. They have something to do with the chapter, sometimes a pun, etc, but are usually thought up during the brainstorming process for the chapter itself.
For the rest of my fics, all the titles have been song lyrics! Usually I have a good idea of what the general vibe/plot of the fic is, and I go through my Spotify listening to music I think fits the vibe and searching for lyrics. Sometimes I find it right away, sometimes I end up with a list of lyrics that somewhat fit but not quite, and have to whittle it down. Sometimes fic titles change pretty last minute! I went back and forth on what I wanted one night to be called for a while, but I'm very happy with what I landed on! A thousand pics, on the other hand, I knew right away that I wanted to use a lyric from Golden Dandelions because that song fit the vibe I was going for.
18. What’s one of your favorite lines youve written in a fic?
GOD a specific line. Um... Okay so I just spent a while trying to narrow it down but it's way too hard so I'll name some concepts instead!
The Build-A-Bear sequence/cute aftermath in one night
The Crunchy Tuna Surprise chapter of Psych Ward
The running joke of the goddamn Kindle in a thousand pics. It makes me laugh every time.
Thanks again for the ask!! I'm gonna send you one but it'll be on anon cause this is a sideblog and for complicated reasons I don't publicly tie my main blog to this lmao

could we get some mai project sekai stuff? hcs or drabbles (if u need a prompt for that, then maybe their daily routine), whatever floats ur boat :3
General Mai headcannons
Writers note: Ohmygodthesillyilovehersomuchhhhhhhthankyoufortheexcusetotalkabouther. Yes of course anon you can get that because I’m completely normal about her and not slightly insane when it comes to her yes yes I am being honest and very normal about Mai because I am a normal person with normal favorite characters that aren’t a NPC without a singular cameo in a card/4koma/1koma.
Any warnings needed? Nope, not that I know of!!
Tumblr media
- Autism 👍 (mmmm I would add in hypotonia but I don’t feel like attempting to explain what it is… and that’d be too much projection for one character…)
- GAY GAY HOMOSEXUAL GAY (she/her non-binary as well)
- Kanamai… no I will not elaborate. I just ship rare pairs like that.
- ^ Willing to use force to get Kanade to take a break… she doesn’t wanna see her beautiful and amazing wife girlfriend go down the same path she did and overwork herself until she couldn’t do what she loved (I would go into kanamai parallels but this is HEADCANNONS not RANTING)
- Easily gets annoyed by how many requests to do operas she gets… the people offering jobs clearly don’t know why she quit being an idol.
- Stickers… they’re everywhere in her house…
- ^ correction, apartment. I believe she lives in an apartment.
- Her daily routine, since you wanted that:
Lay in bed for seven more minutes after waking up.
Read some pages of a book to get her mind working right (You see, I am projecting… except replace book with fan fiction on my kindle… close enough!!)
Finally get up from the bed, brush her teeth, blah blah blah normal stuff.
The rest depends on the day :3

Small but big update
Hey guys, girls, queers and non-binary peers it’s been a while hasn’t it? So i know what you’re thinking “DJ! WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?!” I was supposed to post this a while ago *cough* 5 month ago *cough* but i have been busy working on story’s for you all to read on Wattpad and be able to post them on kindles and much more. But this is a different kind of post, i wanna address how things are now..
1st. The cosplay incident
Do y’all remember when that one Octavia cosplayer posted on TikTok? Most of her comments were full of nasty words and one of them being words about how the cosplay looked and made. First of all they were doing their best and was having fun all together, but the people who commented on their post is insecure about how they look in cosplay and reflects it on them. That’s not fair in my book and is unfair to people who did nothing to you.
2nd. The BNHA Shippers
As a anime fan im not in the BNHA community, but what i will say is to the midoriya and Ochaco ships aren’t official they are just hinted by it yes they are friends but they have a strong bond. Just because they act like a couple they are just friends. And just like horikoshi said “they aren’t dating in fact there are no official ships in the manga. But as for Midoriya and Ochako their friendship is very special” so for the love of god stop being so weird about it to the point others in the fandom cant enjoy the anime and manga. That was the main reason i left the fandom in the first place.
3rd. MK1 Khaos Reigns
So as a gamer i adore the game MK1 i wish that the original voice actor of Raiden was in it but other than that i love it however in the newest DLC packs we get six new characters, maps, and kills. However, the dlc story is far too short As well for it all being the price of $52. That is almost the price of a Nintendo switch game. And even that can last for hours, days, maybe even months, but a lot of people only gave the game pack 2-1 stars because of it being so short in content and story. Most of them saying how the story line made no sense, some asking where was the tournament arc, and the rest were complaining how in the dlc packs Cyrax and Sektor were Female even when in the fan favorites MK9 and MK11 they were males in the tournaments and story though had little to no screen time.
That’s all for today I’ll try to post more in the near future but till then make sure to follow along for all the latest!
POM OUT!!

My TBR for Pride
Tumblr media
The month of rainbows. The month we show unabashed pride for being who we are. While more accepted now, it’s still no less bold. With state lawmakers questioning the need for trans healthcare, criminalizing parents for providing such care for their children, and acts of violence claiming the lives of trans kids like Nex Benedict, the fight for basic human rights for those of us who claim an LGBT+ identity still goes strong. Being queer myself as a non-binary, bisexual, polyamorous person, I am no less fearful for my existence to be criminalized and violence against me and my peers to be normalized than I was before the landmark 2015 Supreme Court decision that determined that same sex marriage is a constitutional right.
There is no one right way to stand strong and boldly fight against these actions and mindsets and to celebrate the shared humanity we all have. One of those ways that I enjoy most is supporting people in my community with their projects and endeavors and mutual aid when they need it. Interacting with LGBT+ media is one of the easiest ways to normalize LGBT+ people openly existing. As such, I will, of course, be reading gay, sapphic, and polyamorous romance novels, trans experience novels, LGBT representative fiction, and some LGBT+ non-fiction essay anthologies and memoirs.
Fiction
LGBT+ fiction is much more accessible than it once was, but many times something is marketed as LGBT+ fiction when all it contains is a gay character that is single. So I’m on a mission to find some books that seem more promising, but we’ll see if their marketing is accurate.
Tumblr media
First up, I’ll be finishing Iron Widow that I started in May. The debut novel from Xiran Jay Zhao was one I had anticipated before it came out in 2021 as I was already a fan of Zhao’s video essays. Unfortunately, life took its turn for me then, and I never got around to it until this year, in time for the second entry in the series to come out. Iron Widow is a reimagining of the story of China’s first and only female emperor, Wu Zetian. A Sci-fi novel that contains a bisexual, polyamorous relationship with giant mechs. I’ll be writing about my thoughts about this book later in the month after I finish listening to it.
Tumblr media
Light from Uncommon Stars by Ryka Aoki seems promising based on the first page. Opening with a trans girl running away from home, it instantly dives into some of the hardships of trans identity. It is marketed as a Sci-Fi novel with lesbian relationships and, of course, trans identity. This book is available on Kindle Unlimited so I’ll be diving right into that.
Tumblr media
I love books about books. The meta culture involved with telling stories like this are typically steeped in whimsy, magic, and immersion. Emma Torzs' Ink Blood Sister Scribe is a book about many books based on the descriptions. It is consistently tagged as LGBT+ but marketing and blurbs have not talked about this at all. I’m looking forward to finding out what is LGBT about it and hoping I won’t be disappointed by it.
Tumblr media
We can all be nurtured into monsters and Gerardo Samano Cordova aims to explore that in Monstrilio. From the descriptions of this book, this is a potentially disturbing, dark horror that has a lot to say about grief, love, interpersonal relationships, and how that shapes people and the actions they take. This sounds like the kind of book that I typically adore and spend a lot of time thinking about. Magical Realism and Horror are extremely provocative genres for me that I tend to gravitate towards. I would say this is my most anticipated book of the month and I’ll be getting into it right away because I already have it from my library.
Tumblr media
I am in the middle of a lot of series, so I’ve put The Mask of Mirrors by M.A. Carrick on the back burner just in case I need another book on theme to read this month. There was a wait to read this from my library so I put it on the list of borrowed books, but it’s not a priority. That being said, the premise of this book is pretty interesting. A girl seeking to secure a fortune for the future of her and her sister and she’s at the center of a web of lies and deceit. Again, it’s not immediately recognizable why this book is tagged LGBT, so we’ll see how that fairs, but I am looking forward to picking this up when I get around to it.
ARC Reviews
I have two ARC books that I’m going to read for review this month. One of them will be posted this month and the other will be posted early next year.
Tumblr media
A demon hunter and a girl with amnesia meet in the woods. I wonder what could happen. I’ve been reading Sacred Ground by Missouri Vaun for about a week now and I have some thoughts but I’ll be posting about it later. What I can say now, this is a light sapphic romance novel that’s a pretty easy read.
Tumblr media
Witches, local legends, Appalachian mountains, everything I love about where I live. I am very excited to read Motheater by Linda H. Codega, set to come out in January 2025. I will be reading this book as an ARC this month to go with Pride month.
Non-fiction
It’s extremely important to have nuanced conversations about lived experience when celebrating Pride. This month is not only about celebrating our lives, the beautiful rainbow of people and identities we hold, and the fact that we are here, it’s also to have a conversation about how we got here, where we are, and where we should go next. While fiction is a great way to add representation and characterize an existence that is fair and even paint a picture of the hardships we go through, the value of non-fiction to pulling those fictional stories into real world examples is immeasurable. I have chosen a few non-fiction essays and memoirs for this very reason.
Tumblr media
Feminist Audre Lorde is known for balancing the nuance of the intersections of race, gender, and queerness with finesse. I’m going to be reading her anthology of essays, Sister Outsider in an effort to sit and listen to the stories and thoughts of a lesbian black woman. I will not be writing anything about this as I refuse to talk over her. I intend to sit, take in, and contemplate on my own.
Tumblr media
To touch nearly all aspects of queer identity politics, Trans Like Me promises to be thought provoking. Seeking authenticity is the burden of LGBT+ people of all kinds, and this memoir by C.N. Lester explores their journey through their identity in the context of the politics and events of the mid 2010s.
Tumblr media
Punch Me Up to the Gods is a memoir by Brian Broome that chronicles his experience as a Black boy that grows up in Ohio with crushes on boys, a dysfunctional family, and leads a life into sex and drugs to ease his struggles. Again, I will not be writing anything about this as I refuse to talk over their lived experiences. I encourage all people to seek out these kinds of books and sit with them and listen to the conversations they may not be directly a part of.

📚 Father of the Future is a flawed but ultimately rewarding philosophical sci-fi adventure - Basic Review 📚
*This novel was gifted by the author in exchange for an honest review (although I did purchase a copy for easier reading)*
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐.5
Author (Platform): Darren Dash (Kindle)
Publisher (Release): Home of the Damned (2023)
What is it to be human?
The million-dollar question we all wrestle with at some point in our lives and can never truly find an answer to. Father of the Future takes it on within its dystopian utopia, regaling the reader with a thought-provoking exercise in philosophy and morality. There's plenty of sci-fi to keep the story from growing stale, but its more cerebral focus does bring the pace to a languish speed. There are no epic battles, for example, with author Darren Dash building the meeting place for minds rather than futuristic combat. Characters, by design, don't quite stand out but powerful culture clashes pit equality and equity against one another, excelling at forcing the reader to challenge their own positions within that space and face the consequences of even their most selfless of stances. It's easy to say peace is the greatest goal of humanity, especially in the midst of a crisis, but if that peace requires your soul, your will, and the very chains that make, what you consider, a whole human being, is it worth it?
Father of the Future provides an intensely layered experience even when its surface content can't quite match its ambitions. Isolating choices and limiting characters works fantastically well in places for world-building but can leave more grounded development a little lacking. Dash's attempt to be more inclusive with non-binary characters and language is admirable but, personally, distracting and frustrating. Gender ideology is a tricky topic that can never seem to find its middle ground and, sadly, Father of the Future suffers from using neopronouns that don't exist outside of a chaotic and ephemeral subculture. Structurally, it brings the reader to a stop as they process whether or not a grammatical mistake has been made when they're assaulted with repeated ze/hir within a sentence and paragraph. Even more concerning is the simplistic approach to being non-binary. Within the novel, it's often portrayed as better than the more traditional understanding of being male or female, with the protagonist even questioning whether or not he should seek help in changing who he is (which, as a gay man, had the unfortunate effect of sounding like conversation therapy).
Stepping back from that rabbit hole, Darren Dash creates a flawed but strikingly thoughtful sci-fi adventure. Fans of time travel will love dissecting the intricacies of Dash's interpretation and moral philosophers will adore the balanced arguments surrounding adversity and character. It won't hit with everyone, but manage to sink your teeth into Father of the Future and you'll find a wholly rewarding experience.

Aivis Starlight
25 + 300 or so years | They/Them/Star/Starlight
Tumblr media
About midterm, the nights turned endless.  Maybe it was the way the professor just assumed everyone understood the concepts as easily as he did.  Maybe it was the little insults, the microaggressions directed towards the only person willing to actually ask questions, seeming to question how they even got into grad school in the first place.  Maybe it was the fact that they hadn't slept more than 4 hours over the last week. Whatever the true cause, Aivis was not enjoying their time in grad school.  And so, as MATLAB crashed one last time, they made a teary eyed wish somewhere deep inside themself, somewhere beyond words and beyond consciousness, that they could escape their life.
Sleep crashed hard as the sweet darkness of sleep embraced them; but no matter how strange, what they saw wasn't a dream.  Gods of Stars and Void sang and laughed with them as they answered Aivis' wish that had been so dear and deep within within them that even they themself hadn't recognized their plight.  And in the morning, Aivis was somewhere new.  A new world, a place where their efforts to learn and passion for information paid off - a place that needed learned people.  It was like a fantasy novel, skylines of rolling trees and mountains unblemished by the structures of man.  A castle and a princess in need of assistance.
Though everything wasn't what it seemed, and trials and hardship, and painful lesson on patience stood in their way, Aivis eventually succeeded in helping that kingdom as the gods had bidden.  And as a sort of prize, was made into one of the Stars.  Forever to watch the many worlds they glean over, to visit upon them knowledge and ideas to kindle the sparks of hope in their times of need.
---
Aivis was a self-indulgent character born of my single worst grad semester to date.  It was 2am and I had watched MATLAB crash twice already.  I started writing about Aivis to keep myself awake, and the character kind of spiraled from there.  An isekai protag with non-binary pronouns and all the time in the world to study and learn.  They are ageless and timeless, one of the divine stars, who are something like lower gods, that is the patron of knowledge and learning.  They travel "worlds" which is how they'll arrive in the haunted house!  A fallen star crashes into the horizon, and out of the crater walks a young person with short teal hair, glasses, and a soft sweatshirt.
Let’s introduce our characters! Take this chance to make up a post telling everyone about your main characters! Introduce them! Spend today reblogging posts about them or art of them! If you’ve gotten a minkie from @mothersart’s commissions, take a moment to write up a little post about them!

Well Baby (my iPad) finally made it home safe and sound after the tracking info said she went out for delivery some 25 hours prior.
I was so happy until I discovered she had been reset and all of my apps are gone. No problem, I’ll just log into the app store and reinstall them.
Nope.
The apps all now require an iOS of 10.0 or higher and Baby’s iOS is 9.3.3 AND won’t update on it’s own. Now I have to try and force the update through iTunes.
What a pain in the ass.
