more insight on miles’ puerto rican heritage for your fics or fanart
- traditional quinceañeras (or as they are often called by puerto ricans quinceañeros) are really not that common anymore, most girls nowadays have pool parties or go on a cruise. if miles were to go to one of his cousins’ 15 birthday party, chances are it would be casual— no big poofy dress (his mom probably had one like that though)
edit: some people disagree on this. depends on how traditional your family and friend group is I guess, as well as which part of the island you’re from. on average, it seems to be a far bigger deal amongst some other latines. in my class in pr only 3 out of approx 30 girls had a big event like that. not a single one of my cousins had a traditional quince either so you could say I’m partly biased bc of my own experiences. i personally just had a big pool party
- plantains are a big part of our diet. also, pr being an island in the caribbean, coconut is in a lot of our desserts. if miles had to pick a favorite fruit I hc he’d pick either one of the two lol also please google our food, our food isn’t actually spicy so much as savory
- we “celebrate” thanksgiving like other americans. it’s about the only time we eat oven roasted turkey. for winter holidays (christmas eve/day, new years eve/day, three kings day/eve) oven roasted pork. chicken might be offered as a second option for people who don’t consume pork for whatever reason
- you’re pretty much taught how to dance as soon as you can walk. most of us have basic rhythms down. chances of miles dancing with his mom or friends at parties? astronomically high.
- the reason why our flag is everywhere, besides pride, is ‘cause it was illegal to own it. look up the gag law that prohibited us from even displaying it at our homes. so it’s actually an awesome detail in these movies
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- this is my opinion/a fun fact but I feel like miles is basically an homage to black and puerto rican (specifically nuyorican) solidarity around the 70s-80s during the creation of hip-hop and rise of graffiti as a form of expression (you can easily read up on this or watch shows like the get down to learn more about this if you’re curious)
- whether you’re “nuyorican” or “from the island” spanglish is common so miles’ mixing english and spanish isn’t odd bc even rio does this as miles points out in the party scene. he isn’t a “no sabo” kid so much as someone with a strong accent. he understands his mom perfectly
- race ≠ ethnicity. there are plenty of black people in and from Puerto Rico, and miles’ pr family in the spiderverse films are designed to be for the most part afro-latine. so I wouldn’t really call him biracial
- the puerto rican day parade wouldn’t be a thing he skips, he’s gifted a special suit for it in a comic run. his puerto rican heritage is important to him!

Propaganda
Celia Johnson (Brief Encounter)—She had the most soulful eyes! Like an anime character, it's insane. And she was fantastic in Brief Encounter. I also like that she's relatively ordinary looking, compared to some of the really glamorous Hollywood celebrities? She had an understated beauty, you know? And she's British so horray for national pride, lol.
Hedy Lamarr (Samson and Delilah, Ziegfeld Girl)—Look. I'm sure someone has already submitted Hedy Lamarr because she was spectacularly beautiful, and a very strong lady too: she fled both an abusive marriage AND nazi persecution at a very young age and rebuilt a life for herself pursuing her love for acting all on her own!! Her career as an actress was stellar; while she began acting outside of Hollywood (her very first movie, Ecstasy, won a prize at the Venice Film Festival), she conquered American hearts very quickly with her first movie in the US, Algiers, and then just kept getting better and better. If all this isn't enough, she was also an inventor: her invention of the frequency-hopping spread spectrum radio transmission technique forms the base of bluetooth and has a lot of applications in all kinds of communication technologies. I think that deserves a prize, don't you?
This is round 2 of the tournament. All other polls in this bracket can be found here. Please reblog with further support of your beloved hot sexy vintage woman.
[additional propaganda submitted under the cut.]
Celia Johnson:
Tumblr media
An argument actually broke out in a film course I was taking, mostly filled with pensioners, because someone called Celia Johnson "not that beautiful" while we were talking about Brief Encounter. I don't understand how anyone can watch that movie and say that, she's got such magnetism and I think she's so gorgeous!!!
This woman set the bar for romantic doomed love and NO ONE has ever bettered it.
Hedy Lamarr:
Tumblr media
The only person you can find both on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and in the Inventor's Hall of Fame--her radio-frequency-hopping technology forms the basis for cordless phones, wi-fi, and a dozen other aspects of modern life. She was also passionate in her efforts to aid the Allies in WWII (unsurprising for a Jewish-Austrian Emigree to America), and her name served as the backbone for one of the best running jokes in what is possibly Mel Brooks' best movie. Look, Louis B. Mayer apparently believed he could plausibly promote her as "The world's most beautiful woman". Is an entire website full of people going to be less audacious than one Louis B. Mayer? I didn't think so!
Tumblr media
Described as "Hedy has the most incredible personal sophistication. She knows the peculiarly European art of being womanly; she knows what men want in a beautiful woman, what attracts them, and she forces herself to be these things. She has magnetism with warmth, something that neither Dietrich nor Garbo has managed to achieve" by Howard Sharpe, she managed to escape her controlling husband (and Nazi Germany) by a) Disguising as her maid and fleeing to Paris or b) Convincing the husband to let her wear all of her jewelry to a dinner, only to disappear afterwards. Also she was particularly clever and helped develop Frequency-Hopping Spread Spectrum (I can't really explain it but anyway...)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
One of the most beautiful women ever in film, spoken by many critics and fans. Beautiful shapely figure, deeper seductive voice, and often played femme fatale roles. She was also brilliant and an inventor. Mainly self-taught, she invested her spare time, including on set between takes, in designing and drafting inventions, which included an improved traffic stoplight and a tablet that would dissolve in water to create a flavored carbonated drink, and much more.
Tumblr media
Her depiction of Delilah and Samson and Delilah just lives rent free in my head. The woman was gorgeous.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gorgeous and brilliant pioneer of modern technology and the middle part.

character info sheet.
Name. Miles Luis Upshur Ramírez
Name meaning. Miles -- Latin, soldier. Luis -- Spanish, famous warrior or renowned fighter. Upshur -- English, literally just means 'from the upper shire', but the fun fact significance is that Upshur was the middle name of the famous American journalist Bob Woodward. Ramírez -- Spanish, wise / renowned ruler / counselor
Alias.( ses ). Fun Mount Massive nicknames: the Host, the Apostle, the Witness, Little Pig, buddy, etc. As far as actual aliases, he's used various combinations of his four names on fake IDs before -- i.e. Luis Upshur, Miles Ramírez, etc.
two pictures you like of your character.
The money shot, the big cryptid moment, the only third person view we canonically have of Miles:
Tumblr media
2. Probably what I consider to be the definitive Oscar-as-Miles photo, one of the things I saw and was instantly assured of my FC choice. It might sound stupid but Oscar is such an irrevocable part of Miles to me. I can't see him any other way, and having such a strong visual representation of him has always been a huge help in making him feel real for all these years:
Tumblr media
three headcanons you never told anyone. Disclaimer that I have probably mentioned all of this at some point but it's been seven years of writing this guy and I fear I'm out of completely new material lol
He's never been much of an exercise buff but Miles used to be into running. He had a set circuit when he lived in DC and tried to keep a consistent schedule even when traveling for work. Never got to marathon level but did a lot of 5 and 10Ks, even a half marathon here and there. But it's not something he does anymore largely because there's... really no point. One of the benefits of being possessed and also kinda dead is you don't need to workout! Yaaaaay! Unfortunately without the endorphins and the satisfaction of exertion, running has lost its luster.
Prior to Mount Massive, Miles had a long-term boyfriend from college until they were in their late 20s. The last couple years of it were a tumultuous on-and-off-again relationship that started to deteriorate after he lost his staff reporter job and had to travel more. Prop 8 meant that same sex marriage was off the table, but they talked about engagement and building a serious life together. If Miles hadn't lost his job he probably would've proposed. But, then, if he hadn't lost his job a lot of things would've been different.
Miles is genuinely obsessed with roadside tourist traps -- giant balls of twine and other objects, weird architecture, fake alien sites, that sort of thing. The kitschier the better. If you're roadtripping with him and he spots a funky sign, he's pulling over.
three things your character likes to do in their free time.
Listen to music -- he's almost always got tunes on in the background but will sit down and really get absorbed in an album when he can.
Read -- mostly current events articles, sometimes a good nonfiction book.
Drive -- loves driving around the middle of nowhere to clear his head, even though it's not quite the same without the Jeep (rip).
three people your character loves.
Not technically a person, but the Walrider. Judge him if you want, but after a decade he's accepted that they're fucked up soulmates that were always meant to be <3. It's been a slowburn enemies to lovers journey, but over time he's adapted and stopped hating it for things that weren't really its fault. He's gone from denial to acceptance to tolerance to feeling genuine affection for the Swarm. Maybe it's too complicated to really define as love, but he can't think of a better word.
@mslangermann in some form in all verses always.
People with conviction. People who stand up for themselves and the things they believe in. People who are thoughtful and who care about something bigger than themselves.
two things your character regrets.
Not being a better son and brother before everything went to shit. His life choices and the prideful stubbornness with which he committed to them drove a wedge between himself and his parents, which trickled down into a strained relationship with his sisters. In hindsight, they were just worried about him and only wanted what was best for him -- but he was too absorbed with his career and trying to piece it back together to see that. He regrets arguing with them so much. He regrets not making the most of the time he had when he didn't know it was running out.
Somewhat verse specific, but he very deeply regrets what happened with @mslangermann's husband Blake after Temple Gate. Murkoff picked him out of the wreckage and brought him to another facility -- Miles found him while trying to dig up whatever he could about the cult. Blake was completely catatonic, and probing around in his mind revealed that there was nothing left of him mentally, either. Rather than leave him to suffer in Murkoff's hands, Miles elected to put him out of his misery. And still hasn't told Lynn. He doesn't regret doing it -- truly, there were no options that would have saved Blake -- but he regrets not being honest with her. He also blames himself a bit for not finding him sooner and possibly preventing tragedy.
three phobias your character has.
the dark
confined spaces
heights

"Prosecutor v. Felon" Debate Notes: 09/10/2024
These are notes from an attorney written in my personal shorthand as it pertains to the 2024 Presidential debate between former prosecutor Kamala Harris and 34-time convicted felon Donald Trump. Again, these notes are written in my shorthand has I watch the debate live, and typos may be edited lightly, if at all. I might write a formal long-form post about the debate in addition to these notes, but these are the raw notes taken by me in the moment of the debate itself. Please note that not everything written here—especially Trump's points—is guaranteed factual, but are all taken from the debate itself.
Let's get into the debate by way of my notes.
Economy
Harris: raised as middle class kid, plans to lift middle class. Believes in dream of the people. Opportunity economy. Aims to extent tax cuts of $6k child tax credit for families. Passion is small business. Give $50K tax deduction to small business. Points out Trump billionaire tax cut, Trump sales tax. TST would create $4K increase of middle class taxes.
Trump: Rebuts sales tax, discusses payback tarifs especially from China. He doesn't understand tarifs. We have inflation worse than ever. Defends ever class. Talks about people pouring in from asylums taking jobs from minorities. Says they're violent, says Biden Harris let them in. Have to get them out fast.
Harris response: Lists all of Trump wrongdoing. Says they have cleaned up his mess and built on hopes of people. Calls out his name calling and P25. Talks being president for all.
Trump: Rebuts involvement in P25. Says he's open book will cut taxes create a great economy. Says wrong year of Spanish flu. Talks about covid shit he didn't do lol. He says he created them
Harris: Trump has no plan. Ec plan all about tax breaks for wealthy. Best economists reviewed her plans and says better, Trump worse. Trump exploit deficit. Trump interested in defend himself. Trump interrupts her and talks about himself. Says Kamala copied 4 sentences of Biden plan.
Trump on tariffs: China rips us off for years, will have higher tariffs. We will take in $100B, says he had no inflation. Polls 80/90% on his side
Harris rebut: trade deficit by Trump. He sold US chips to China to improve military there, sold us out. Says Trump thanked Xi.
Trump rebut: we hardly make chips, says Harris has no policy. Trump was gonna send maga hat to Harris. Calls her Marxist. Talks about millions of immigrants pouring in. Criminals etc. Bad for economy. Worse thing to happen to economy.
Abortion
Trump: Says abortion in 9th month, cites former WV gov BS execute bby law. Bashes Waltz, says he condunes execution after birth. Trump takes pride in getting rid of RvW by genius heart and strength of SCOTUS. Believes in exceptions. Says legal scholars, etc wanted issue brought to states. Each state votes, vote of people. Did great service, credits 6 justices.
Harris rebut: calls out bunch of lies. Trump picked SCOTUS conserv justices, 20 states bans. Cites no conserv exceptions as immoral. Not abandon faith to believe in women freedom. Pledges to sign protections into law, says Trump will nationally ban abortion under P25 monitor.
Trump calls it lies, says he won't sign ban. Legal scholars wanted it brought back to states. He did something nobody thought possible. Says not in favor of ban, taken by states doesn't matter. Cites Congress now, not potential after election. Rambles about catastrophe of loans. Slams Biden for beach day.
I took a piss break while he went in circles
Harris rebut: refutes 9mo abortions as insulting, never happens. Couples denied IVF, working women barely afford child care have to travel for healthcare. Majority of Americans believe in woman's rights and red and blue votes agree.
Trump calls this a lie. Says he's leader on IVF. Says Dems will allow 7-9mo abortions.
Immigration and Border Security
Harris: Only person on stage prosecuting trans national criminals. Talks bipartisan border security bill she supported. Allowed to stem flow of fentanyl. Trump called conservative Congress and killed this bill. Says we need a leader, not a Trump who runs on a problem. Invites us to attend Trump rally as it's interesting—Hannibal, windmill cancer, people leaving. He won't talk the American people.
Trump rebut: Responds rallies, says nobody goes to Harris rallies. Says people wanna take country back, says we are failing country 3.5 years and gonna get into WWIII. More immigrants. Springfield OH is eating people's pets. Trump supports like MAGA, says Harris destroys this country. We will be Venezuela on steroids
Mod calls BS on Springfield claims. Trump argues
Harris rebut: laughs about extremity. Talks endorsement of 200 Republicans including Cheneys. Ask former Trump associates about him.
Trump rebut: he's different kinda person. He fired people, but Biden Harris didn't. Bashes Afghanistan withdrawal. Talks smear books. Says BH never fire anybody and rambles. Good way not to have books. Got more votes than any republican or sitting prez by far.
Trump on immigration again back on track: He'd deport higher than 11M immigrants, talks crime drop in Venezuela because criminals are here. Destroying fabric of country. World crime down but here it's through the roof. Migrant crime. Refutes FBI claims of dropping crime as fraud.
Harris rebut: rich for prosecuted criminal, goes through his record. Brings up Nov court case. It's important to move forward, turn the page, address American people needs.
Trump rebut: all cases started against repub by dems, says he's winning most. Weaponized DOJ.
Harris rebut on weaponization: SCOTUS Immunity Ruling, discusses Trump termination of Constitution if elected, weaponize DOJ.
Trump says she weaponized, not him.
Harris on policy shifts: values haven't changed. Fracking won't be banned, we have to invest in diverse energy. We have largest increase in domestic oil prod in history. Middle class hard worker. Calls out Trump privilege and 6-time bankruptcy. Discusses focus on protecting most vulnerable. Values have not changed. Lift people up, not beat people down. Leaders understand.
Trump rebut: Says not given $400M, only a fraction built into billions. Defend police was given up wrongly by Harris. She gave up 12-15 policies. Raised money in MN. Trans operations on immigrants. Says he'll end fracking on day 1. Says Kamala would destroy oil, fuel, etc day 1.
Peaceful Transfer of Power
Trump on Jan. 6
Trump: Trump says he wanted peaceful and patriotic. Says conserv didn't hurt any dems. Rambles about immigrants again. Pelosi babble.
Harris rebut: Charlottesville, fine people on both sides Trump quote, proud boys stand back stand by Trump quote. Won't go back, turn page. Stand for democracy, rule of law
Trump: different term, energy bloodbath. Says Charlottesville was debunked by all news. Defects Capitol critiques with immigration. Says debate waste of time, Harris has been so bad.
Trump is forgetting what he said, says losing by a whisker comment was sarcastic. Our elections are bad, we need walls and borders. If you can't speak English, you shouldn't be able to vote. Refutes Trump election fraud claims as judges said they didn't have standing as fraudulent. We have to solve nation in decline problem.
Harris rebut: Trump was fired by 81M people and has difficulty processing that. We can't have prez who upends free and fair election. Discusses world views on Trump being disgrace. Discusses his lost court cases.
Trump: ass kisses Orban, says Trump is most respected most feared, Biden weak pathetic. Says Biden got 14M votes, Biden hates Harris.
Israel-Hamas War
Harris: Discusses 2023 conflict history. Hamas attack on Israel concert and Israel right to defend itself, but that far too many Palestinians have been hurt and war must end in ceasefire.
Trump: skips issue, discusses Russian-Ukrainian war and friendship with Putin. Says Harris wouldn't meet Netanyahu, Harris hates Israel. Says Harris also hates Arabs, she would blow it all up. Says it'd never happen under Trump. Rambles about middle east, he'd get it settled before he ever becomes president if elected.
Harris: voices support for Israel, calls out Trump dictator on day 1 comment, his friendship with dictators and autocrats.
Trump says 168 country sent us immigrants, says Putin endorsed Harris last week.
Russian-Ukranian War
Trump: wants war to stop, says numbers are all fake. Nobody asks Europe, says Biden Harris don't have the courage to ask. Calls them weak. Says Russian Ukranian leaders respect him. Hell settle the war as president-elect. Refutes if Biden is even a president or knows if he's alive. Says it's US best interest to get this war done.
Harris: reminds Trump he's not running against Biden. Alleges Trump would just give up the war. Discusses US support for Ukraine, bringing 50 countries together. If Trump were president, Putin would be sitting in Kyiv. Putin won't stop at Ukraine, praises NATO power.
Trump: Putin would be happier than he is now, he has nukes and might use them someday. Says Harris caused the war with weak negotiations.
Harris: Calls out all of Trump's lies, discusses our priority to stand up for our allies. Right to rely on president who understands US responsibility and not selling for benefit of personal flattery.
Afghanistan
Harris: Agreed with Biden pull out decision, American taxpayers save $300M/day and no soldiers in combat zone first time this century. Trump bypassed Afghan gov, negotiated with Taliban, lifted tariffs, invited them to Camp David.
Trump rebut: Defends negotiations with Taliban, rambles about head of Taliban, wouldn't have left $85M of military equipment behind. Blames Russian attack on Ukraine on Biden Harris weakness
Race issues
Trump: Doesn't care about Harris identity, refutes his quotes on Harris turning black recently.
Harris: Tragedy that Trump has used race as a division tool, Americans don't want this decision. Reminds us of Trump racist landlord past. Discusses Central Park 5. We don't want leaders who point fingers at each other. Regardless of color etc, we all have dreams and want president who invest in those.
Trump says this is most divisive presidency. Rambled about inflation, economy
Harris brief response: she isn't Biden or Trump, offers new generation of leadership to USA. Discusses tax plans for Americans again.
Trump interrupts about defund the policy, guns, fracking. Obamacare was lousy. He has concepts of a plan. Options of a plan.
Harris on insurance: supports private healthcare options, discusses guns and says she's not taking them away, Obamacare—defends McCain, Trump has no alternative plan. Reminds us about pre existing conditions. Access to healthcare is a right not privilege.
Trump says she made mistake. We can do better than Obamacare, says Harris won't approve private health insurance.
Climate change:
Harris: Trump says it's a faux but it's real. Denied home insurance or expensive insurance as a result. Young people care deeply. As VP invested $1T in clean energy, jobs, etc. Trump lost these. Endorsed by UAW, invest in American made.
Trump: Says manufacturing jobs leaving, owned by China in Mexico. Biden is paid off and corrupt.
Closing statements:
Harris: Mentions to very different visions for country. One on future, one on past. Mentions unity, coming together, having a plan, hopes and aspirations of American people. Investing in families, protecting seniors, giving breaks and bringing down cost of living. Earning respect, military strength. Protect women's rights. Talks legal career and one client; the people. Only cares if people are okay and nothing more. Intent to be president for all Americans.
Trump: Refutes Harris, says she hasn't done anything as VP. Why hasn't she done it? Says she should leave and go do it, but won't because American people don't believe in her ideals. Rips on bad vision. Why didn't she do it? Failing nation. Brags about friendships with leaders. Talks about what he did 4+ years ago, no plans for the future. Wasted entire closing statement.
There you have it—an attorney's real-time notes from the live 2024 Presidential debate. Please let me know what you thought of the debate!

I'm sorry, but something about what the other anon said about Logan kinda gave me the ick in some parts so I felt the need to write this. I think Logan's situation is no where as straight as a line as they made it out to be, and in part I feel like you kinda have to be American to understand certain things. I heavily agree with you on how the "Americaness" is pushed onto Logan. In my opinion, Logan isn't even all that American? Like he's very toned down (which makes sense as he spent the majority of his teenage years + early adult years in Europe, and not in America). Even then, why can't he be proud of being American? We see other drivers like Carlos, Checo, and Guanyu to just name a few use this same very tacit! Williams is no where near as popular as a team as it used to be, and Logan being American brings in more fans and sponsors. I think the huge personality change from now to Prema is also BECAUSE of the ridicule he faced for being American. Americans in general have this pre-connotation of being very cocky which was dragged along with him during his rookie season, and coupled with the fact that his first year did not go very well it's no wonder he's not showing his personality as much. The other anon honestly said it themselves, you only know American stereotypes. When has American pride became synonymous with being a Republican? I don't want to become very political, but I think the bottom line is don't really comment on another countries politics that you clearly don't know a lot about. Also the gun part? That's just plain rude. I don't think we've ever heard of Logan saying he even owns a gun. Once again, you're laying hurtful and may I mind you ignorant stereotypes on him.
I do agree with his family being problematic though (The long history of America and their oil wars), and their undeniable ties to Trump (who I also don't agree with and his many, plainly stated, evil policies), but I think you also have to realize that almost all the drivers are shitty people and have questionable backgrounds. To come after just Logan for his family ties to a party is just you being silly.
The whole ask just seemed very insensitive IMO.
Yeah, there's fully compilations of Logan being “european” so to say lol. He often talks like someone who's been raised in Europe for their formative years, which he was sooo
Like if you think that Logan is “so american”, I know people who would give you a heart attack lmao
Just down south, horse-wrangling, truckers who play Willy Nelson songs on their guitars and have never taken their hats off their mullets in public lmfao
And yeah, American politics is one of those things where I refuse to listen to other countries opinions about it because, unless you've lived here, you don't really understand.
And I hate trump. But, also, this is one of the reasons I don't attach to the drivers.
Most of them, probably not wonderful people. Probably don't have wonderful families who I'd always get along with. But Im not cheering for those people, I'm cheering for car number 2 and that's really all I care about.
It always great to have some level of separation from the drivers, or celebrities in general, because a lot of them suck as people and I'm not about to get emotionally attached to someone who turns out to suck real bad.
(Lewis gets a pass in my book but, again, whole other explanation)

Me trying to persuade my sister to watch JoJos (I'll update the post as our conversation continues)
Tumblr media
My sister: "Why is that show so gay lol? Like every gif I see of it - gay" Me:
Tumblr media
My sister: "Is it meant to be gay or funny?" Me: "Funny mostly, but people now a days just see it as flamboyant and gay
which the fanbase is okay with lol
I mean....its funny right?
But the pose is just a "JoJo pose" A silly, over the top pose that as far as the story is concerned is a signature, serious, or energetic pose a character does But for the creator of JoJo and the reader, it is supposed to be taken as both serious and funny with the idea that "Ah its a new JoJo pose"
"The story of JoJo while both comedic and serious in tone is more than just its narrative Its a straight up culture, the energy of JoJos is so over the top and expressive that it can't help but inspire and influence others to copy it in some manner or form. Its an anime/Manga from the 80s in its rawest and most powerful form Araki knows its silly, but he wears that shit with pride and he does it proudly and everyone loves him for it. JoJo has created a cult back in the 90s, quite literally and its only gotten stronger since the remake during 2012 What makes JoJos so great is that its more than just an anime/manga, its more than its medium, its just a fun, entertaining, and emotional ride that when you realize all that JoJos has to offer you'll actually begin to understand why the fandom is the way it is Why the so fervently want as many people to watch it as possible, why its heavy in meme culture, and why people copy it and how JoJos despite being released in the 80s continues to be dominant as a masterpiece till this very day"
My sister: What was it meant to be at that time then?
Tumblr media
WHY IS IT SO OVER THE TOP LOL?!
Tumblr media
Me: "I think at the time, it was meant to be signature esque and cool, maybe to get people to buy its figures or for the kids to pose Like... Think about how popular Power Rangers (Or shows like it) was and still is over in Japan Kids copy it all the time, the poses, the saying and mannerism JoJos is the same thing but for adults, because why should adults lose that magic too right? Mature story telling doesn't have to be a serious narrative all the time What makes JoJos so good is that JoJos embodies both of these things and makes it work"
Tumblr media
My sister: "Then what would you describe it as?" Me: "You know how you would think of Akira, or Dragon Ball Z, or Avatar and you would see it as something more than its medium? Akira for its crazy animation quality for its time that stands as one of the best animated movies ever made
Dragon Ball Z for its cultural impact on the world to this very day as the most recognized anime in existance
And Avatar for being a childrens show that showed for the first time that american animators could od what anime could have and tackle mature themes even for a kids show?
JoJos is something of that nature that is hard to explain, the story is great but its not deep or complex, there is no hidden philosophy or thematic exploration of any ideals or anything (At least not all around)
But because of how much of a culture shock JoJos has shown and the style of the show that LITERALLY IS ITS OWN STYLE that no one else can replicate, JoJos succeeds in becoming an iconic legend in its own right by being SPECIAL
Its just a special kind of anime, you can't rank it as a normal anime, there is something deep within the machinations of what makes JoJos "JoJos" that makes it so incredible
Its different from say watching Monster, and trying to unravel the mysteries and feeling like you figured out something deep and meaningful
With JoJos its the same minus the complex moral question, its more of understanding, what is it that makes the show so good?
Its a lot more interesting to figure that out and in turn I think you would appreciate it a lot more if you viewed it under that lens instead of comparing it to animes you like. Because if you do, you will never understand or come to appreciate JoJos.
JoJos is truly its own special kind of show separate from all other animes. There is nothing like JoJos, and I don't think any show can replicate what JoJos succeeded in doing"

Pride at the Capital 2024
Two awesome days with Team Cher
Oh My Goodness! Where to begin? I guess the start is always a good place. I'm just afraid that all my descriptions and accolades about the positive vibes, terrific people and positive work we did as Team Cher will pale in comparison to how I feel about it all.
But I will try.
Day One:
Just one of the many great things is how we gelled as a team considering how random the team selection really was.
The training meeting was held inside the Imax theater at the Challenger Learning Center in Tallahassee. You simply walked in and chose any open place to sit.
Tumblr media
Little did we know that all the people in the isle seats (which were already occupied) were actually our team captains!
So after the training on the legislative bills that were being supported and those horrible ones being opposed, we started to break into teams. They then split the row in half and our team was born!
Our team captain then gathered us togather for introductions and the overall game plan.
We were "Team Cher" (which I thought was team SHARE until seeing it on the paperwork later in the day. Lol)
Team Cher was the perfect size 8 of us and a wonderful blend representing almost the entire LGBT spectrum.
We had two older Transwomen (one a translesbian, me!). One still in high-school transwoman who was just unwillingly outed by Florida's terrible pronoun law. One older gay man, another one in his early 20's. 3 women one NB lesbian. A cisgender lesbian and a cisgender ally. Quite the mix!
Tumblr media
<Team Cher minutes after forming. One person is out of frame on the left and our captain up close!>
It was then time to get the go over the schedule. Get our roles and head over to the capital steps for the group picture.
Each team that visited law makers had 5 roles. The Captain. The Scribe. The Opener. The Closer and the The Storytellers.
I was a Storyteller. No surprise there.
Before we had our first meeting with a lawmaker it was group photo time!
Tumblr media
<I'm in there, about 4 rows from the top below the first column to the right of the entrance>
Next up was the Equality Florida press conference in the capital rotunda.
The press conference was every energetic, filled with passion and had great information about the utter garbage the Majority party is trying to pass.
Tumblr media
< looking worn out already! 10 hours in and no where near done>
After the press conference it was lunch time (provided by Equality Florida) and planning meetings for our first lawmaker meeting.
The only one of us with prior experience at the capital was our captain, Devon. She was a wealth of information, a tour guide, advisor and calming presence when we got nervous. We couldn't have asked for a better leader.
Our meeting was with Florida Democratic House of Representatives member Susan Valdes.
She was wonderful! She listened to our stories (mine included) told us about her pas being raised in a Cuban-American household and soon our allotted 15 minutes was 40 minutes long!
This was a perfect first stop.
She inspired us and got us energized. I hate to think how the group may have reacted if we had an arrogant, condescending jerk as a first vist. Like we would later.
We then spend the balance of the day dropping off bill information to various lawmakers and the reasons why Equality Florida either opposes or supports them.
We were also trying to get walk up meetings but those were difficult as this session was only a few days old and was very busy.
Exhausted from going up and down the building at least 10 times we decided to do more bonding and planning over drinks and appetizers.
Tumblr media
We headed out of the restaurant and back to the Challenger Learning Center for an Equality Florida reception and cocktail party.
One speaker mentioned a small LGBTQ book store called "Commen Grounds" just a few blocks away so we walked over (in the at freezing level temperature) and all made purchases to help out!
An exhausting but fun day with lots more to come on day Two.

I just saw someone matching German states to American ones, and there are some I can agree with and some I absolutely fucking don't.
Bayern (Bavaria) matching Texas, yeah. That's just yeah.
NY and Berlin being kinda similar even tho I would make the argument that NJ is also Berlin, east Berlin to be specific, as those two are still very different that you can match two to them
and Brandenburg is not NJ, they match up with Massachusetts better
Schleswig-Holstein matching with Wisconsin I can kinda see, but also not, but like nothing happens there, so no state really comes to mind directly
And then there is that they said NRW matches California.
(They also said Hamburg matches Illinois bc it's also a big travel goal like NY and Berlin, I also take issue with that but we aren't here for that rn)
And I as someone born and raised in NRW has to DISAGREE HEAVILY
NRW IS IN NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM CALIFORNIA
yes we are the lone, only western state of Germany (We are ignoring Rhineland-Palatinate (the English name is weird lol) here ok) and we take fucking pride in it as we sure as fuck aren't California AND I.WILL.FIGHT.YOU.
NRW can match 3-4 states because it FUCKING IS 3 STATES MUSHED TOGETHER AFTER THE WORLD WAR PLUS THE RUHRGEBIET THAT'S ITS OWN THING
I can see California with the Rhineland-Palatinate maybe but not with NRW
NRW and its regions match with the following states if you squint
Rhineland (no, not -Palatinate, I know it's confusing) matches maybe with Florida? It has Cologne and a lot of other places tourist like to visit so eh, not the best match but it works
Sauerland oh Sauerland, the forgotten sibling of NRWs Regions, some Germans don't even know where Sauerland ends and Ruhrgebiet begins and count cities that clearly belongs to the Sauerland to the Ruhrgebiet and neither of us are happy about it, Ruhrgebiet is a very distinct area with a very distinct culture we are proud of and we do not like people lumping us in with people from the Rhineland or the Sauerland, if you don't know if a city belongs to our regions, life in ignorance, for your own safety, I beg you. If you're wrong you look stupid to people from the Sauerland and alienate yourself from people from the Ruhrgebiet, just say nothing and ask someone you know very well from those regions in private.
But which state matches the Sauerland? Well, Georgia would fit maybe? But Atlanta is too big, mhhh maybeee Indiana or Idaho would work I think, lots of farmland and often forgotten.
Now we get to my region, Ruhrgebiet my home. It's ugly here no question, but it's home, it's the kind of ugly that gives it character, the ugly comes from the scars of our history that we wear with pride, it makes the region what it is.
There isn't really a state that can really match what makes the Ruhrgebiet, well, the Ruhrgebiet. NY is too popular, NJ is a maybe, but doesn't have the coal history, maybe West Virginia, but I know too little about the state beside the coal mining history which matches. Wyoming is often forgotten which matches and has coal, that are like the two important factors, besides looking like a dystopian concrete jungle and a lot of inside rivalry
ok, final answer, West Virginia or Wyoming. Someone tell me more about this state so I can form a better opinion on this
my home is very important to me and I only want the best match for it

So this time, I'm gonna talk about a world I actually have built. I had the chance to have a beta reader give me a few ideas, but it was more solidifying the lore.
The Demonic Repentance is as the title suggests, a repentance for a demon. What sin has he committed? Well, maybe one day you can read and find out ☺
But, I'll still talk about the atory in a spoiler-less manner.
I was OBSESSED with the Rinmaru OC Maker/dress up games and made tons of makers. I would make around 2 or 3 with every new story I made. These are with the MC Akuma and his love interest (you guessed it) Cassie.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Btw, just in case, the plot for the vampire AU, aka the above image, is the typical human x monster and their offspring is hunted down)
Cassie looks nothing like she's supposed to (she's African American), but the demeanor is still there so I'm still okay with these and don't mind attaching them.
But, the world building in here was mostly done out of a need to attach Akuma and Cassie.
Cassie is an Angel and Akuma is a Demon, so I wanted them to have more "opposites attract" kind of thing and added a pecking order.
Angels have 3 attributes
Ice
Fire
Light
These three attributes are ordered in a way where there are naturally strong Angels and naturally intelligent Angels.
"Strong" can be physical or mental
While "intelligent" can be general or emotional
Ice Angels are typically intelligent emotionally and their Ice works in a way to regulate emotions. Ice Angels usually don't have need to fight and are comparable to the "healer" role, barely any Ice Angels actually know how to fight. They usually suffer from lack of confidence, low strength, and low self image, but have a high EQ and are easily befriended.
Fire Angels are more adept physically and usually have an immense power to them. Not only do they have strong flames, but they also have a commanding presence. They are usually well liked and have personalities that are hard to hate. However, they are usually are head strong and make enemies with Light Angels. It's common for Fire Angels to also lose themselves in the heat (lol) of battle.
Light Angels are a mix of both. Some can be very powerful, while some can choose to be studious. Either way, Light Angels have a way of getting what they want and are stubborn about changing that goal. While they can't control Light, they act as a guide for it. They are also very flexible and can do multiple things in their field of focus. They focus so much on what they want that the usually unintentionally tell off someone who has no ill intent. Light Angels are also very opinionated and often find themselves in arguments with their peers.
Meanwhile Demons can only be Fire (cuz Lucifer was a Fire Angel in my world), but they have different Sins attached to them. For ex. Akuma has the sin of Pride and that makes him very resilient and willing to fight to the end. Something like that exists for all the seven brothers sins.
These attributes can also come with a personality trait:
Ice Angels are attractive to every Angel and Demon.
Ice Angels are very picky, but are also helpless romantics
Fire Angels and Demons are more likely to fall in love with Ice Angels
Light Angels usually don't marry or form many close attachments
Light Angels are quick to form a hatred for Demons
Ice Angels are compassionate to everyone, including Demons
The physical part of the world is something I enjoyed making. Both Angels and Demons have wings, but they're only visible to other angels and Demons or Humans who no longer have a soul.
While Angels and Demons don't have a set ethnic group, most Ice Angels are women while most Fire Angels and Demons are men.
Abilities do exists, but it hinges more on the individual and what they want to do. So an Ice Angel can make a weapon or a Light Angel can manipulate the very light around them.
Tbh, if you can't tell this is my favorite world 🙆

my blog is three years old today or something im not sure I looked at the message for two seconds and started writing this. anyways
i took a nap for forty minutes and had the weirdest fuxking dream. the spiders were back (what a surprise) and a man who sounded distinctly like jonathan sims was arguing with them about the possibilities of the universe and then the spiders Converted him. im not sure what they converted him to but they kept repeating that they converted him and he started glowing like he was radioactive and the spiders came together to form a weird-ass humanoid being. made of thousands of spiders. they like led jonathan sims around and had him walk up to people and those people would just drop dead instantly, and their bodies would freeze up?? which doesn’t make any sense but whatever dream logic . anyways. after they stopped killing people we went up this tower which led to a massive ass hole in the universe and the spiders started jumping through it and told us to follow. i did not want to but jonathan sims threatened my partner and then pushed me in anyway?? the spiders were very annoyed but they were also happy because they were feeding off my fear or something. normal spider things. the hole lead to a planet that i know is a REAL planet because i have a massive hyperfixation on space but i can’t remember the name. this point in the dream is where i begin to understand i am dreaming and jonathan sims tells the spiders that i’m aware now? the spiders then wrapped my entire body in their silk and kept repeating a bunch of stuff in hungarian which i understood (i don’t speak hungarian.) about cows and sacrifices and keys to the universe?? (I asked a friend who understood Hungarian about some of the words I heard and he was like. Haha lol that’s right how did you know that, did you use Google translate etc etc, and i went . no I heard them in my dream. And he looked straight into the camera and laughed (we were on a video call) ) and then jonathan sims blasted me with his radioactivity and told me it was pride month and i died but like . I didn’t wake up yet
i was in this weird purgatory place with some guy who had a fucked up voice that was similar to michael’s from tma but it was distinctly Not Michael bc he 1) was not british and 2) did not sound anything similar to michael’s voice actor. he was american and asked me a bunch of questions about what it was like to have met jonathan sims in person. i told him i wanted to kill him a bit and then the guy started to melt and let out these really awful screams that sounded like . if you could imagine what a black hole sounds like with a billion fluorescent lights dying out and being sucked into it ?? with some echoey qualities that are guaranteed to make your ears bleed . That would be the sound. and then i got consumed by the All-Seeing-Many-Eyed-Elongated-Soul-Devouring god that the guy said he mentioned earlier but actually didn’t (this name was beamed into my head like a radio signal being picked up after moving slightly to the right with your device) and i woke up after i watched the guy i was with die
it felt really long even though I was only asleep for forty minutes. my brain worked overtime to produce all that shit. idont understand where half of the material was sourced from
i am so sick of the spiders
anyway blog birthday woohoo confetti confetti yay

Hello! Happy June! It's Pride and I have another question (3/30)
Today's piece of history comes in the form of a film/documentary recommendation of "Paris Is Burning".
"Paris Is Burning" was released in 1990 and it provides a snapshot of New York City in the 1980's through the eyes of the city's African American and Latinx Harlem drag and ball scene. The title itself refers to an annual ball held by the artist Paris Dupree, who is featured in the film, and the film explores the elaborately structured ball competitions, where the contestants are judged on their dance talent, the beauty of their clothes and their ability to adhere to the categories.
The focus is on rival fashion "houses" (a term coined by legend Crystal LaBeija, and her successor of the Head of the House of LaBeija, Pepper LaBeija, is featured prominently in this film), showing us their competitions, the House "Mothers" and the experiences of being both queer and POC during the AIDs crisis.
It features legendary voguers, drag queens, and trans women of colour - the main figures and fights for queer rights, and people that we, and especially US Americans, owe a lot to.
I think this film is a great starting point for an introduction to the people who helped build both the ball scene and the drag scene to the absolutely phenomenal standard it is today. It's also just ICONIC.
As for my question, something that is talked about a lot in this film is the ability to/act of "throwing shade" and the skill of "reading", both of which are terms coined by the black queer community and refer to subtle and/or clever ways of insulting or conveying disgust with someone or thing. So, and this is only tangentially related, what was your favourite line from Larray and Issa's "Cancelled Remix"?
(yeah, yeah, not as related as usual, however, I wanted everyone to be able to answer at least one question because my other question is:)
Have you seen this film? And if so, what did you think of it? (if you haven't seen it and end up watching it from this ask, please tell me what you think!! xx)
Happy Pride 🌈 🎉
i’m not a huge movie person or show watcher but that film sounds incredible so thank you for the recommendation! i’ll watch it if i have some free time :D
and oh my god LMFAO. i have a couple fave lines from the canceled remix. but honestly my favorite one would have to be the george diss in the middle of the song LOL, like for some reason the “colors fucked up in the head” part got me so bad 💀 that entire verse did tbh 😭 like i couldn’t stop giggling lol

I do want to see the film, it sounds fun!
