a better question would probably be "do you ever stop nurturing fic ideas?" 😂 at any given moment, there are at least ten fic ideas rattling around in the lobster pot i call a brain, most of them half-baked and vaguely formed; some of them with some actual substance and merit to them.

lately, i've been overtaken by a nefarious subset of particularly horny thoughts regarding a certain first lieutenant from a doomed arctic expedition and all the various ways in which his anger and frustration at his captain's questionable leadership might manifest... which i wholeheartedly blame on matthew mcnulty's line delivery of, "you were told not to speculate", along with that delicious little lip-curling sneer he does when he says it.

granted, it's not really sharing an idea so much as it is Thirsting After That Middle-Aged Man™, but i figured if anyone would understand, it would be you, curry ❤️

65. Tell us about what you’re most looking forward to writing – in your current project, or a future project

as everyone and their mums probably knows by now, i'm currently busy with several wips. but the ones i'm most proud of and probably the most eager to finish are my terror lieuts vampire hunters/dhampir!jops au, and the sequel to two cupped hands; both of which are sitting at about 35% completion rate. unfortunately, i haven't had much motivation to write lately, and so the actual completion of said wips remains a sisyphean task at present. that being said, i'm nothing if not stubborn, so if it takes me ten more years to publish either of those wips, so be it. i know they'll find their audience regardless of how much time passes 😁

However, the decision was not an easy one and the choices we make have a tendency to shape our convictions. Here we see what could have happened if Gamora's dilemma went the other way and softened her resolve to stop Thanos from his self-perceived destiny.

Where Shadows Dwell - MyresLight - The Silmarillion and other histories of Middle-Earth - J. R. R. Tolkien [Archive of Our Own]

This is not my own fic, but it's my favorite silvergifting one I've ever read, and it fits with the "dark" and "unhappy ending" prompts for @silvergiftingweek day 5, so I thought I'd go ahead and rec it because it's amazing.

The fic I was talking about in the other ask is "Where Shadows Dwell" by MyresLight, it's on Ao3. Heed the tags, I'm not kidding when I say it gets dark (not that I'd doubt your ability to choose for yourself what you do and don't want to read, but still)

The fandom is Silmarillion/Middle-Earth, the story is basically a dark Silvergifting one. If you're not extensively familiar with the lore of the setting, a little background on where the fic starts from: Celebrimbor (the character who's forcibly made pregnant in the fic) is the elven smith who made the Nine, Seven, and Three Rings of Power, of which Nine and Seven he made with the help of "Annatar" who turned out to be the evil Sauron in disguise. Sauron's basically a fallen angel (that's a simplification but I'm not gonna spend all night explaining irrelevant lore stuff to you). Anyway, Sauron then made the One Ring (the one that all the fuss in LOTR is about), attacked the land that Celebrimbor ruled, and captured Celebrimbor and tortured him to find out where he'd hidden the other rings. In canon he just kills Celebrimbor afterwards, but in this fic... he has other plans :)

Also, should be noted, Celebrimbor's backstory and family is a little bit complicated and messed up, and his relationship with own father is not entirely good; details are not terribly relevant (and if you wanna know, you can look the characters up in a fanwiki), but just pointing that out because it is something that also gets referred to a few times in the fic

1 - How long ago did you start reading fanfiction? Writing fanfiction?

I think I started reading it in Year 7 when I was about 11 on the school computers via wattpad (I logged into my wattpad account for the first time in two years a few weeks ago and it was an interesting experience). I think it was Harry Potter fanfiction or maybe Star Wars.

As for writing - I think I was 8 or 9. This was before I truly new what fanfiction was but I had this really terrible quality notebook where I wrote a few hundred words of what happened after the end of Harry Potter. I thought it was a true masterpiece but I can’t find it any more.

I also wrote this Star Wars fanfic in script form at about the same time based off some of the legends extended universe stuff because we had some of the books in the school library and I loved them.

4 - Link your three favourite fics write now.

Sansûkh by determamfidd on AO3 - a Hobbit/LOTR fic that is genuinely one of the best things I’ve ever read. It hasn’t been updated in ages nor is it finished but I love it and have read it more than once. I highly recommend.

Full in Heart by MyresLight on AO3 - a Silm AU fic that I love and have reread many times. It gives me a lot of feelings about Fëanor and his relationship to his half-family.

To Save the Queen by AwayOHumanChild on Fanfiction.net - a Star Wars fanfiction that ends up as an AU. It’s the beginning of a trilogy and this series is genuinely the only reason I go back to Fanfiction.net. It focussed on Sabé and the handmaidens and I love it.

8 - How often do you reblog/comment on fics that you like?

I really try to do this but if I’m not feeling great or I’m busy at the time I tend not to.

9 - Tag 3 fic writers you think are underrated/unknown in the fanfiction community.

@riding-with-the-wild-hunt has done some amazing writing including an AU series with neurodivergent Lúthien and queerplatonic Curufinrod which I love and has done a load of other stuff that is really sweet.

@findrahil has also written some things that I love and I have read a few of their Findrahil things - and I’m not much of a Findrahil shipper - but the writing was just perfect and I couldn’t help but like them.

@secretlythranduil is also someone who’s writing I love. They’ve got some really neat fae au things going.

I’m not sure how many of these are underrated - I’m fairly terrible at determining that sort of thing - but I love all of them regardless and you should definitely go check them out.

11 - How do you come up with your fic titles?

Well, for one series it was just two words around ‘and’ (e.g ‘Wind and Wishes’) but for the rest - if I can’t think of anything on the spot that sounds right - I just try and decide what the main sort of theme is and I look up quotes about it via google pictures.

15 - Tell the author your favourite fic of theirs. What’s your (the author’s) favourite fic you’ve written?

I’m really glad you like that fic! It’s one of the favourites I’ve written definitely but my most favourite...probably We All Begin As Strangers.

It’s not my best writing and I’ve certainly improved since then - to the point I think I’ve somewhat abandoned the series to rewrite in the future - but it’s the first fic I truly wrote in the Silm fandom and I’m very proud of the fic idea.

20 - What’s your favourite part of the writing process?

Ooh, well I love all of it really, but my particularly favourite part is when I’m thinking about the fic I’m writing/going to write and coming up with ideas because it gives me a lot of joy to see things coming together in my head and it lets me explore parts of the story that don’t end up in the final work. Also, this is why I have any chronological consistency in my writing at all because editing and planning? Really bad at it.

23 - What’s your absolute favourite trope to write?

Found family. No contest. I love the fluff and I love the love and it’s the amount of ‘I would die for you’ that everyone has for everyone and ugh, there are so many possibilities. If anyone sends me a found family prompt I would probably write a multiple chapter story based off it.

33 - What do you like writing better: one-shots or multi-chapter stuff?

This is difficult because if I come up with an idea (and they’re usually AUs) I want to write everything under the sun about them.

However, I usually lose interest if I go too hard, too fast and so one-shots are usually the stories I get the most out of.

My solution to this is making one-shot series’ instead with the occasional two-shot or other small, multi-chapter story thrown in there.

35 - How much has writing fic changed your life?

Probably not loads? It has a bit - it’s introduced me to this part of the internet which is a great place to hang out and increased my confidence when talking to people but I’ve always been dabbling in writing.

Although, thinking about it, I think writing in general has helped me understand how people work? And feelings in general which I used to really struggle with when I was younger. But that could be due to other things, so I’m not sure.

43 - Talk about a positive experience with fanfiction or the fanfiction community that you will always remember.

Umm...well, there’s this one commenter who has commented on all my fics since I posted Blood and Prayers and they’re always really long and rambly and amazing and interesting and every single one gives me such joy. Genuinely, if they follow me here, thank you so much, it means a lot.

Anyway, this was long, I hope this was somewhat interesting!
