Taehyung's beautiful "Rainy Days" (Song Analysis)
*taps mic* is this thing on?
Well...it's been a while, hasn't it? We've been silent but we are still very much around, still listening to the Tannie's music, watching all the content, still loving vmin and namjin, we watched all streamable D-Day concerts, the Disney+ movies, all of it, we've just basically been keeping our ARMY time to ourselves.
But then came Tae.
But then came Rainy Days. And we were lured back here to scream a little at what we've gotten.
And yes, before the inevitable anons come to try and discredit everything in this post, yes we are aware that (so far) Tae doesn't have any writing credits on the songs on Layover, Love Me Again and Rainy Days. But try as you might, no one can ignore just how vmin coded Rainy Days is and how specific some of the references are. Everyone picked up on it, regardless if they were a vminie, OT7 non-shipper, or even a xkooker. Posts crying about and pointing toward Park Jimin being the one were everywhere and honestly, I've missed moments like there.
So, Rainy Days, huh, let's talk about the vmin references, shall we?
youtube
First of all, can we talk about just how gorgeous and atmospheric Rainy Days is? And how very Taehyung it is? Because it just fits him truly so perfectly, just like Love Me Again does. I love how the soft mellowness of the song contrasts with the brutalistic architecture of the building shown in the MV, the old-school iMac, and the little Pomeranian acting as Yeontan. I did get tricked into thinking it was Yeontan until Tae did his live and told us, nope, that's Rocky, a doggy looking very close to how Yeontan does since he couldn't travel with Tae. We know Yeontan has health issues, so I should've guessed as much, but either way, it is absolutely adorable how much love for Yeontan is in Tae's debut as solo artist. Find you someone that'll love you as much and as deeply as Tae loves Yeontan. I'll wait.
I love the use of the iPhone sounds within the song, the notification tone as well as the typing sound, though it isn't very fitting (it also reminds me of vmin, how they enjoy FaceTiming, texting and calling each other) for someone who was the Samsung Galaxy ambassador ha ha. Wonder what Yoongi had to say about that.
But moving along to the lyrics, as well as two moments from the MV itself, there are a few vmin references that are hard to ignore. And they were "obvious" enough that basically everyone picked up on them.
The first little thing, and this one could very well be a reach, is this Little Prince/Jimin connection. In the MV Tae falls asleep watching TV and we're shown clips of a fox and a flower which immediately made everyone think of the fox and flower from the Little Prince, and then also the moment in the first season of In the Soop when Tae and Hobi went on their little trip and spotted a mural/poster for the Little Prince. Adorable.
Tumblr media
Then in the second verse we have Tae singing the following line:
We can start again, open all the doors
The mention of doors made me perk up because it instantly reminded me of this line in Sweet Night:
That I still hope the door is open
So it feels like, if Rainy Days really is a vmin song, it would either play before Sweet Night, or after, when something came between them but Tae wanted a second chance, still had a hope that they could be together and that all things aren't lost yet.
Tumblr media
Now this, who do we know basically laughs at anything and everything Tae says, who has mentioned time and again that Tae is the funniest, like in one of the RUN episodes he mentioned how Tae had been making him laugh all day as well's throughout the filming? That's right, our boy Jimin.
Don't believe me? Well, check out this thread and see for yourself.
Next we have the line:
You're my four-leaf clover
Do I really need to explain this one? In a BB or memories DVD, I don't remember exactly, we had a moment when Tae was looking for a four-leafed clover and Jimin, to surprise and make him happy, went and acted as though he'd found one for it (though it wasn't a real four leaf one) which made Tae happy anyway. Years later for their performance of HOME, standing in front of what appeared to be a reference to the Mirror or Erised, we saw vmin wearing matching four-leaf clover necklaces with Tae appearing next to Jimin as though he was what Jimin's heart desired the most.
Tumblr media
Then in the MV we have a scene where Tae is in some kind of art room creating. Eventually he picks up a baguette, which points for originality, and uses it to paint a Vante art piece showing a painting that looks like an alien with its little antennas. And who reclaimed the alien "nickname" just a few years and and who is basically the only one who can still call him that? Exactly. Jimin.
Tumblr media
Speaking of whom, further in the lyrics we get this line:
Those hurtful words
And sure, perhaps I'm delulu and reaching, whatever, let me have fun, but still that line reminded me of something. FESTA 2020 where Jimin spoke about how he was sorry for the things in the past, how they were buddies back then (I'm still waiting for him to elaborate on that one, they were buddies back then so, Jiminie, what are you now? Care to share?) and got into a lot of disagreements and how he now feels sorry for the harsh words he used with Tae. And Harsh words can very much be hurtful. So another potential reference?
Tumblr media
At the end of the day, as I mentioned before, Tae doesn't have writing credits on Rainy Days but, as you just read, those things just fit a little too well to be just a coincidence, right? So perhaps, just like they'd done with Chingu years prior, maybe Tae sat down with the producers/lyricist and told them what he wants in the song?
And that would be it. We're both extremely excited for the rest of Layover, for the next 3 (!!!) MVs, and all the promo Tae mentioned he has planned (based on ideas and things he saw ARMY had mentioned wishing for) and if he'll have writing credits on any of the songs. But it is a little strange to me how Tae has been so outspoken about working on and writing songs for his mixtapes for years, how he'd shown us snippets from his songs, and yet now as we are getting his debut album, no writing credits (so far). Guess we shall wait and see.

yoonmin shippers make me laugh making everything about their dead ship no way in hell that they're the real couple lmao. Also the fact that I've come across some yoonmin shippers here on tumblr spreading their analysis and conspiracy theories to prove yoonmin is real it's honestly embarrassing seriously no different than tkkers.
https://x.com/nochujimi/status/1826426875071103481
I've noticed there are a lot of Yoonminers and that the fandom seems to accept them better than Jikookers. But any ship that isn't Jikook isn't real imo, so it's all the same to me whether they are Tkkrs or Namjin shippers. And obviously many Jkkrs are out of touch with reality.

"For instance, I find many interactions between Yoongi and Jm very soft and sweet and I feel Jm definitely gets a side of Yoongi that other members don’t. But their overall interactions to me make it seen like they are friends who are each others biggest source of comfort and strength. I think Yoongi has been extremely important for Jm’s confidence and I think Jm gives room to let down some of the walls he has built. What I love about Jm is that he is so full of empathy and he never hesitates to comfort the others."
I loved this analysis. I think both are very observant and caring towards their members in different ways. I think YG knew what JM needed and stepped into that role as a hyung. And as he himself as said, he finds him very endearing -- to see someone so talented work so hard. I think they are actually pretty similar in their sense of responsibility for the well being of the group -- it just comes off in different wants. I think a lot of the jkkr analysis is actually picking up on JM playing this role of emotional support across the team, but we see it most in the established ships (yoonmin, jikook, vmin) which is where some of the vitrol towards those members comes from.
It can be frustrating when there are these clearly pushed dynamics, like yoonmin, though because we don't necessarily get to see breadth of other relationships. Like I've long though Yoongi and Tae's dynamic was adorable, especially early on when it's clear that YG looked out for him when he could be a bit misunderstood. I also love Jin and Yoongi. I think they are the members who they can just realx and be themselves with -- because they can relax from hyung duties (which they both take very seriously). Yes, he goes fishing because Jin likes it (which goes to the previous point, he adopts the role that his members need from him) but I also think he finds comfort in being just with him. I know that people like Namjin as the "parents" but I always thing of it as YG and Jin.
Hi anon!
Yeah, we definitely have similar thoughts. I have so much admiration for the Hyungs. When I think of how young even even Jin and Yoongi still were when they started out, I can’t help but be thankful to them for having done such a great job. And ofcourse they also had other adults around them, managers.. parents.. but I think when it came to keeping each other sane and keeping spirits up and keep everyone in line and working together the Hyungs had a vital role.
I love Jin and Jk. I think to me those two most resemble actual siblings 😂. The easy banter, the affection, the non serious scolding. I love it. In a situation where high levels of stress are very common it’s so important to have someone break the tension and I think Jin has a very natural way of being able to lower the pressure everyone feels for a bit.
I think I agree with Jin and Yoongi being the ‘parents’. Considering everything they went through , I think they did a great job.
What you said about the Jkkr narrative I agree on as well. We see Jm have similar moments with Yoongi, Hobi, Tae, Jk.. Namjoon and Jin I’m not so sure about.

Tumblr media
**as if jin was namjoon's first love... fond gazes superiority (proud boyfie)**

I noticed the very distant Namjin at the Festa.
In fact, they did not speak to each other at any time, which is very strange about them and they did not interact at all.

(1) Hey, I just wanna say that I just discovered your blog and I LOVE your analysis, and I love how nice you are.
[cont.] (2) It’s especially interesting for me to observe all the BTS ships BC I’m such a new ARMY… I feel like I’ve missed out on a lot of the changes and shifts in dynamics over the years that simply can’t be fully comprehended even tho I have gone back and watched all the old content? I’m just curious bc I do know that friendships change over time… we might still be close to someone but not to the same extent as before, right? And we also form stronger bonds with other ppl too… (JIKOOK COUGHS)
(3) Sorry for the long ass ask LMAO I’m really bad at expressing myself so I’m not even sure if I got my thoughts across properly haha… but anywho, thanks so much for being such an amazing part of the fandom!!! And thanks for listening to me ramble heh~
NEVER apologize for a long ask, i love rambles ; ;
you’ve expressed yourself excellently? and this is such an interesting question; i’m a run-era child so i also have quite some looking back to do and i feel like i could probably spend a few months to answer this omg;;;; but i really want to attempt this so i went on a bts research adventure and idk how useful any of it will be, but i’m just gonna –
warning, big mess ahead
NOTE: i think i just experienced a moment of clarity when i went back and combed through this entire set of Hanryu Pia magazine interviews (among my faves, no question). it spans 2014-15, with a bunch of 1-on-1 member segments and it really refreshed their dynamics for me (makes me want to go back and edit some of my other rambles now AH). tl;dr i’ll be referencing it a lot and it’s a good read!
back on track with a bit of background – if i could start with a very generalized way to look at their earlier dynamics (before going into how their relationships shifted), i want to address that although the members formed friendships based on interests/personality/etc., i feel like their bonds were also initially pretty affected by where they fell into certain ‘categories’/spectrums, like these:
earliest to join bts –> latest to join
hyung-line vs. maknae-line (which is very close to #1)
vocal-line vs. rap-line vs. dance-line
music-line vs. performance-line (very close to #2 and #1)
etc. etc.
…. you’re probably like, this is common sense LOL but i guess i didn’t really think about how much they had to live in these labels, how jin + jungkook, for example, were vocal-line and had a similar training schedule, and as a result got closer by hanging out after classes together. but in a broader sense the labels became identities, and also affected the way they viewed each other; like for hyung-ln as long-time trainees, they likely felt more distant from maknae-ln, who we know hadn’t experienced the same hardships and didn’t handle as much of the responsibility. jin was out there making sure everyone was alive, namjoon and yoongi were in charge of discipline and musical drive, yoonseok were taking turns accompanying each other to the hospital… i think they really felt that gap in experience up through debut, because in 2013 interviews sugamon especially were always talking about how angry/tired they were during trainee limbo. honestly i’m not sure how much of that was to market a “hard”/“hiphop” image, but they also weren’t lying about those difficulties? and there seems to be a communication gap between hyung-ln and maknae-ln as well (all ‘jin being childish’ aside). for ex., in one of the Hanryu Pia 2015 interviews, hoseok and namjoon were paired up to talk and joon admitted the maknae-ln couldn’t sense his bad moods the way the hyung-ln could. extra interesting because age seems to trump training time here –– even though jungkook and jin joined around the same time, jk was not on the same wavelength.
i guess my conclusion from this is a lot of member relationships that may have shifted started from there, and that maybe in a generalized way, some members who got closer were able to like, overcome whatever initial differences they had, including age gap, talent specialties, relationship history?
if we go into specific relationships – i apologize if any of these were already on your mind btw – i think maybe namjin had somewhat of a rocky(?) start, since they referred to each other as complete opposites and didn’t understand how the other person worked, but they clearly got closer after talking with one another and were mature enough to overcome their differences. and now they’re married! :) i also think jinmin have gotten much closer – partially based off of how jin apparently used to nitpick at them a lot like a mom lmao and jimin wasn’t a fan of it, but now jimin’s become jin’s portable laughing track and jin adores him for it and throws cheesy pick-up lines at him probably every day, so there’s that too! i’m mentioning jin a lot, but since jin didn’t start dorming with everyone until later i think it’s understandable that he took some time to get closer with the younger members.
(EDIT: i wanna mention minjoon too, who have always been kinda close bc they relate to each other about self-esteem/motivation issues, but i think they’ve probably gotten closer? they seem to talk to each other about their troubles often and that kind of intimacy builds over time)
i think some of our conceptions of who was close with who also comes from how much we knew about them debut era vs. now –– like imo jikook were always pretty close (though i agree, definitely closer now), but we just didn’t see it as much early on and it’s taken some time for their dynamics to shine through. same thing for sope, and vmon and taejin too, and hey, taejin got an onscreen indirect kiss and sope’s bringing hwaggae tango to dancing with the stars, so i’m patiently waiting for bighit to up the game @ bts_twt call me for details
(urgh im neglecting a lot of relationships but maybe i can revisit this later… hopefully this answered your question somewhat sajdfkl)

Impostor Syndrome
“I started to wonder if I deserve any of this.” — Jin
Jin appeared to me to be quite down while promoting ‘Dynamite’. He was more subdued than usual, not talking or joking around much. His eyes seemed to have lost their lively spark. I wondered why that was.
To get at what might be going on, I tried to pinpoint the last time he acted normally. He seemed his usual self while shooting the MV, while reacting to it, and even on September 1st, on the V Live celebrating their #1 in the Billboard Top 100, on Jungkook’s birthday.
But from then on, and until very recently, Jin didn’t seem to be doing so well. I’ve been paying attention to all the recent interviews, to try and get a glimpse of his inner state. Today, the much awaited Weverse individual interview afforded me that chance.
JIN: [...] Before our debut, I had a clear goal: to debut. I chased after that one goal. [...] But now, my goal is to live without overthinking anything. Maybe it’s not really a goal but a kind of defense mechanism.
Q: A defense mechanism?
JIN: As you get thinking, you might somehow undermine yourself. So, as long as I don’t think too hard, I can work hard right now. Maybe that’s why I called it a defense mechanism: If I stop and think about it, I might have too many ways to put myself down.
Q: But if you imagine someone else were to have accomplished the same things you have, wouldn’t they think they deserve to feel proud?
JIN: That’s true, but I’m also one of seven members of BTS. Thinking about what I’ve done as an individual feels like a burden to me. Up until we finished working on Map of the Soul: 7, I wasn’t burdened but felt, “Okay, we all did a good job. I’m happy with this.” But after getting “Dynamite” to the top of the Billboard Top 100 and starting down this new road, I started to wonder if I deserve any of this.
Q: But you experienced a lot of big things before. What made you think that way this time?
JIN: I was waiting for the chart position to come out all day, and then right before bed, Namjoon sent a message to our group chat. That’s when I realized we were number one! I was really happy, but something felt different. Maybe it was because we couldn’t see our fans. After “Dynamite,” we got even more love from even more people, and even when I was walking down the street, people would say things like, “I’m a big fan of yours,” or, “Thank you for introducing Korea to the world.” Then I started to think, “Do I deserve all this congratulations and love? That’s not me—I’m not that kind of person.” I got over it a bit, but even until a few days ago, the pressure was so intense that I couldn’t get any work done.
Q: How did you move away from all that pressure?
JIN: I just moved on. Like with COVID-19, we all have to wait and stay put until everything gets better. And actually, after “Dynamite” made number one, we got really busy, so I was able to think less about other things and basically avoid them that way, all those questions about life. I think that’s how I endured.
It seems that in the last couple of months, and prompted by breaking through these greater heights, Jin fell back on his feelings of inadequacy. He seems to have questioned not only how much he deserves this new praise, but how much him personally is deserving of it, when he’s just “one of seven members of BTS”. How much has he done as an individual member to deserve all of this? Are his personal contributions really that valuable? Or is he just bumming a ride on this rocket that is BTS, and collecting the fruits of the others’ hard work and talent?
His current struggle appears to echo the one he sang about in Wings (2016) final track, ‘Awake’:
I’m just walking and walking, among this darkness My happy times asked me this question You, are you really okay, it asked me Oh no
I replied, no, I’m so afraid Still, I hold the 6 flowers tightly in my hands I, I’m just walking, I said Oh no
But it’s my fate It’s my fate Still, I want to struggle and fight
Maybe I, I can never fly I can’t fly like the flower petals over there Or as though I have wings Maybe I, I can’t touch the sky Still, I want to stretch my hand out I want to run, just a bit more
‘Awake’ was the first song Jin participated in composing. And while RM wrote the lyrics (except for the first two lines, brought to them by "Hitman" Bang), he’s stated how he believes the lyrics represent Jin himself, too.
Jin’s arc in the albums and the band has been a beautiful one, as the inspiration for and manifestation of the “LOVE MYSELF” message. He remains to this day its great ambassador, as can be seen by his 2020 ONU address:
Thinking about the future and trying hard are all important. But cherishing yourself, encouraging yourself, and keeping yourself happy is the most important. In a world of uncertainty, we must cherish the importance of “me”, “you” and “us”. That is the message of “LOVE MYSELF” we talked about for three years. It’s the message in the lyrics of our song ‘Dynamite’: “I’m diamond, you know I glow up.”
— Kim Seokjin, in BTS (방탄소년단) Speech at the 75th UN General Assembly (23 September 2020).
He compares himself to a precious stone again in his descriptions of the BE concept photos:
The point of this room, which is bedecked with gems, is that you can never tell what's a jewel and what isn't. I was overwhelmed by the sight of this gemstone, but turns out it was me all along. Have you forgotten along the way that each one of you is a unique and precious gem?
— Kim Seokjin, in BTS BE Concept Photo.
Jin spoke again of the topic of self-love while interviewing with Rolling Stone India (October 2020):
Q: Jin, what made you want to address self-acceptance and insecurity as an artist with tracks like “Epiphany” and the album series Love Yourself? The lyrics on “Epiphany” even say ‘I’m the one I should love.’ Where do you see yourself now on this journey of self-acceptance?
JIN: Self-acceptance and insecurity are topics that I honestly didn’t want to address. I didn’t want to reveal my dark side, but talking to our Chairman and producer Mr. Bang helped me open up. I think I have now accepted that part of me, and learned to understand and love myself.
But if Jin’s inner state in the last few months teaches us anything, is that this “journey of self-acceptance” is ongoing. And even though we know where we’d like to arrive at, what is important we strive for, there might be times when we’ll forget along the way that each one of us is a unique and precious gem. There will be times when we might question and undermine ourselves. Even when everyone around us emphasizes how much we’ve accomplished. Maybe especially then.
And if Jin was feeling unworthy of the praise — not just because he didn’t believe it, but because he felt he hadn’t contributed as much to this success as the other members — then it becomes even clearer why he mentioned Namjoon personally in the BE ‘Thanks To’ notes:
Thank you so much to our members who wrote songs for this album.
And for saying that my ideas were great while writing lyrics, for saying that he had a rough time starting but could finally start with what hyung wrote as a topic, thank you so, so much, especially, to our Namjoonie who gave such beautiful words.
If Jin had been feeling inadequate and useless, how much must it have meant to have Namjoon vocally acknowledge him as an invaluable contributor and source of inspiration for the whole songwriting process!
And Namjoon, who is no stranger to these feelings of insecurity, making sure that Jin knows how important and appreciated he is.
I hope they continue to help each other along on this journey towards unconditional self-love. It’s a beautiful thing to see and source of inspiration for all of us.

BTS COMEBACK THEORY
Okay Armys, since we all know there’s a whole comeback theory going around on twitter, I’m going to make a compilation post regarding this.
It all started when people noticed there was a glitch in run dance practice video at 31 second, during Yoongi’s part.
Tumblr media
Further there’s a glitch on No More Dream mv at 2:05 minutes, which wasn’t there till yesterday. You can watch the reaction videos to confirm it.
Also Namjoon and Jimin wore this and it had ‘205’ written.
Tumblr media
Moving on, when you type bts bighit you can notice the 'error occurred’ thing.
Tumblr media
And on bts YouTube channels, the subscribe button has disappeared, which is an another glitch.
Tumblr media
Remember MAMA and MMA vcrs were filled with glitches and we didn’t noticed?
When Yoongi appeared in place of Jungkook during the DNA vcr and when taekook appeared side by side? It was all a glitch.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Namjoon confirmed that the new album has darker themes. Now there are two theories which have caught my eye, the next comeback either has a 'cyberpunk’ theme or the theme of 'fake love’.
Everything is linked to illusion and reality. BTS Japanese albums are 'WAKE UP/ YOUTH/ FACE YOURSELF’
If we’re going by the cyberpunk theme, it basically means that the government has created an illusion, we don’t know what’s really happening and we’re all puppets.
The second theory is bts are talking about negative sides of 'co-dependency'. It tells about being your own person first.
The whole MMA vcr was about this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I tried to sum up this post and make it short so if you guys have any questions, want to discuss something or have theories of your own, hmu anytime! My ask box is always open.

Fanboying Edition
Ok hear me out you know how JiKook are best friends and always hang out and there's probably multiple reasons for it but one of them could be for the lack of better word 'fanboying'
I mean Jungkook stans RM and isn't shy over it and then there is Jimin the Jhope stan but still supports the Namjin married agenda. He's their baby shush 🤫
Also I am not going to put it past Taehyung from being the Jin hype man with RM as bias wrecker so as to say.
And Yoongi is the club president, he's hobi biased, he thinks he's coy but he's not
Just something to think about
