(11/12/24): Life of A Quiet Student
Overall: ★★☆☆☆
How other students treated me: ★★★☆☆
↑ Reasoning: Only bad comment was during literature when the teacher let me work by myself rather than with another student. The other student went to work with another group, and someone said something about me. I heard my name but I couldn't hear what exactly was said. Oh, well.
Worst part of my day: 7th hour. Those kids are so loud. Constantly whistling, making bopping noises with their mouths, and farting noises. I thought we were in highschool not kindergarten. They trigger my misophonia so badly. Literally almost walked out of the room.
Best part of my day: 4th hour. We had a pizza party where I managed to eat one piece of pepperonia pizza. The only other option was ham and I only like cheese. It wasn't that bad, but the peperoni taste is still in my mouth.
What I'm reading: The Trial by Franz Kafka
Other: My creative writing class is making us create a book with some of the poetry we've written. We have to do a dedication page, introduction page, and about the author. To be honest, I really don't wanna do all that. Just let us copy down the poetry and then be done, please.

I finished Blood Meridian a couple weeks ago and I’m still thinking about it. Doesn’t help that I had a dream about the judge 😭

It occurred to him, for the first time, that just because you never thought about someone didn’t mean they weren’t inside you.

I loved visiting Avid Reader and its partner shop in Brisbane! Since it was near the end of my trip, I was finally able to commit to the chunker of Carpentaria by Alexis Wright, and l also got a crocodile pin and a book about spiders!

Twas the Night Before...
In the city of Vale, when the moon hung above, Blake Belladonna, a reader of love, Joined the "Scroll-stuffing Day," a joyous affair, Where books on her Scroll, she would eagerly snare.
Through the online crowds she did weave, Scroll clutched in her hand, In the grand library, she sought to expand, Her collection of tales, of passion and glee, And the largest selection? Romance, it would be.
With a heart full of hope, and eyes shining bright, Blake scrolled through the choices, each cover in sight, Historical romances and futures untold, In the world of her Scroll, a love story to unfold.
Then a unique title caught her discerning eye, "Twas the Night Before Love," it beckoned with a sigh, She tapped on the cover, and in an instant, she knew, A world of romance, with a faunus like dew.
The story unfolded, a modern-day dream, Characters danced, and forbidden love was the theme, A mystery Faunus, a hero so grand, With a human lover amongst the digital pages, Blake took a stand.
As the clock gently ticked, and the night started to sway, Blake was immersed in the virtual array, Her heart danced to the tale, emotions running high, In the glow of her Scroll, a love story's sky.
Through heartwarming moments and twists unforeseen, Blake felt a connection, her heart serene, The magic of stories, not confined to the plot, For love's unexpected dance, she hadn't forgot.
The night wasn't just tales, confined in her hand, It whispered of love in the air, like soft sand, As she scrolled through the night, anticipation did swell, Love might be waiting, just around the next spell.
With a heart full of dreams and a Scroll stuffed with lore, Blake Belladonna yearned for what lay in store. As her scroll finally died and the words fell out of sight, Blake whispered.
"Dammit... I knew I should have charged this thing tonight."

Thank you to James at ALIA Graphic for calling out Squishbook as one of their top reads of 2024!
"a ridiculous and ridiculously engaging book that gives advice, examples and laughs in roughly equal measure" is another nice quote for us to cross-stitch and hang over the mantelpiece.
ALIA Graphic is the graphic novels/comics gang within the Australian Library & Information Association -- they're the librarians who do a lot to spruik comics (and especially Australian comics) as an important part of a library's collection. If you're a librarian, subscribe to their emails -- you get notified about notable newly released GNs you might want to get on your shelves.
AND: we agree Squishbook would be a nice book to consult if you're a library worker organising a comics workshop… but we want to remind you that there's also a free set of teachers' resources for Squishbook you can make use of!
Tumblr media
Thanks also to Nat Karmichael of Comicoz for naming Squishbook his Best Original Australian Comic of 2024!
"Sharing comics with young people, making comics for young people, showing young people how the process works. This is THE best 'how to' book on the process of making comics. EVER."
This is a big call but we'll take the compliment!
Thanks to Nat for the accolade -- and for coming out to wish us luck when we came to Brisbane last year for a workshop at Avid Reader. It was much appreciated!

Not gonna lie, this is one of those WTF did I just read books 🤭 It’s a short extreme horror novella with a splash of humour. To which I freely admit I did scoff and giggle at parts.
Please do not read this if you can’t handle extreme gore, m*rder of all ages, bl00d, and supernatural control 🤷🏻‍♀️ etc.
I beginning to think I have lost not only my marbles but any sense of sanity now…naw! I never had it in the first place 🤣🤣🤣
