It is awkwardly hilarious to me that Kinoko Nasu, creator of the Fate Franchise and famous for gender-flipping King Arthur, has another interesting (and more controversial) spin on Arthurian Myth via "Morgan-le-Fay-is-the-Lady-of-the-Lake"...
...and it's corroborated.

Why everyone always forget in some versions of the tale Lancelot was raised by Nimue/Vivienne?
Queen Igraine was also Nimue's sister (again, not all versions are like this, just my favorite one). That makes Arthur his foster cousin and his romance with Guineviere even more akward.

Avalon Le Fay ✤ King And Lionheart
Nimue Pendragon, daughter of Arthur and Gwen, and Avalon Le Fay, daughter or Merlin and Morgana, had always been thick as thieves, and had always been ready to declare war on Auradon. Ever since the formation of the Isle, King Adam and the Fairy Godmother had been insisting that Morgana was still a villain, and therefore belonged on the Isle, and once Avalon was born, she agreed–so long as her daughter could stay in Camelot. When Arthur was killed barely a year later, Merlin and Gwen partnered up to raise their daughters and run a kingdom, until the girls would be old enough to do so themselves. Of course Auradon never trusted the one kingdom that refused to unite, and insisted that the girls be sent to Auradon prep, and so they went–reluctant as could be. Everything was fine, mostly–the other princesses looked down on Nimue’s love of swordfighting, and Avalon was never seen as anything but a villain kid, but they still had each other. They could tolerate it all, biding their time. But at sixteen years of age, everything they’d ever planned gets thrown for a loop when it’s declared that four children from the Isle would be moving to Auradon.

Arthurian ask: What is YOUR headcanon about the Lady/Ladies of the Lake? Like, was she bien a human or not, how many Ladies are there, her/their names, personalities, religious role (or lack thereof) relationship with the other main power players in the story (Merlin, Morgan, Arthur), which one does each thing: owing Excalibur, raising Lancelot, learbing from Merlin, killing him, the whole poisoned apple thing, carrying Arthur to Avalon alongside Morgan, getting Excalibur back... it's like, many authors, storytellers & filmmakers have given different answers to these questions, and that's why Bernard Cornwell's terryfing yet alluring Nimue is so different from Persia Woolley's lovely Nimue, or Tennyson's evil Vivien or the majestic screen portrayals of Anjelica Houston or Miranda Richardson. Thx
They're just nymph-like women in my opinion(Nimue already has many parallels with Thetis). I feel like there are many ladies of the lake (l hc Lancelot had 3 moms) because Vivien having so many names is just... Stupid. My headcanons are: Vivien looks like a woman in her 60s-70s, was the First Lady of the lake and is the murderer of Merlin, Nimue looks like a woman in her 30s and is the one who gives Excalibur to Arthur and is the mother of Lancelot with two other ladies, l feel like all the ladies helped Morgan out while carrying Arthur to Avalon, cause you know, they helped him and stuff... So basically, Vivien: the bad one but the first Lady, Nimue: The better one, that's it.

Just checked out the first episode of "The Winter King" and really like it so far!!! :D It's a new take on King Arthur based off the book trilogy of the same name with more actual British history tied in as well as some fantasy but it's really fantasy lite so far as in Merlin and the others like him in Avalon have some powers but also mostly visions (similar to ancient Celt pagan culture that ended up becoming Irish, Scottish, and Welsh). There's also the rise of Christianity happening too and it is super violent (which I fastforward through LOL). Then also some twists on characters too like Mordred (who is a baby and actually Uther's son with his wife/queen instead of Morgan/Morgana's), Arthur got exiled and is a warlord before Melin goes to bring him back to save their kingdom, and there's a LOTR style doomed ship of Nimue and Derfel as she'll lose her powers from the gods if she chooses to be with Derfel. Guinevere hasn't shown up yet but seems like it's next week from the description, a few of the roundtable knights are already in the show, and I know Lancelot eventually will be on the show too if it gets renewed as he's in the book series. Looking forward to seeing how the rest of the show is over the next 9 weeks.
