AO3 Kudos and Comments
For all those beautiful AO3 readers out there...
I get an email notification from AO3 every time I get kudos or comments on my fics. I receive those emails while I'm at my soul-sucking day job.
It is a blinding flash of pure joy and delight and love, that floats me along for the rest of the day (and several days after).
So, if you're reading and enjoying someone's fic on AO3... PLEASE KUDO AND COMMENT telling them how much you love it! You are literally feeding their soul.
Bonus points if you tell them what specifically you love, and why, and how much.
DOUBLE BONUS POINTS if you quote your favorite lines from their work. <-Writers love this
***THANK YOUUUU <3 <3 <3 we don't do it for money, we do it because we LOOOVE to do it and we can't not do it, and we love to share it and talk to others who love it too!!!!!!***

2025 International Fanworks Day Mini Bang Schedule & FAQ
Schedule
All times are by 11:59pm PST. Convert time zones.
Writing Begins- January 1st Earliest Posting Of Fic To Platform Of Your Choice- February 1st Regular Posting Of Fic To Platform Of Your Choice- February 7t Bragging Rights Posting Starts- February 15th Bragging Rights Posting Endss- February 22nd
FAQ
What is the WIP Big Bang International Fanworks Day Mini Bang? Good question! This is a Mini Bang with one goal in mind: to clean out your fanfic drafts folder for the fics that were too short to be completed during the main Big Bang (ie, finished works are 7.5K words and under).
Do I need a Livejournal/Dreamwidth/AO3/etc. account to participate? No! You don’t have to have an account on anything to participate, though you will need to have somewhere to post your finished work. Having one or more accounts will help for you to follow what is going on with the bang (we crosspost to Dreamwidth and Tumblr and heavily use our Discord server at the moment), but they are not required to participate. You can always leave comments anonymously or with an opensource ID.
How many fics can I write? We absolutely don’t mind multiple fics! There are no sign-ups for this, as it’s an informal Mini Bang, so as long as it stays under he max word count, you can finish as many fics as you want between January 1st and February 15th.
Will I get emails about the bang? We do not send out any emails for the Mini Bang, as we currently do not keep an updated email list of participants, so we only send individual emails as needed rather than mass emails.
However, email is the fastest way to communicate with the mods. If you have any questions, please do email us! We will do our best to respond quickly.
What do you mean by maximum word count? You don’t have to have a set minimum of your fic to start, so an outlined fic is fine, but it must be under 7,500 words when it’s finished.
Are multi-chapter fics allowed? Yes, multi-chapter fics are allowed, as long as they stay under the maximum word count.
What about fics that are already posted on ao3 in part? Do those qualify for the bang? It's okay if you have posted some of your fic already (you never know when the muse deserts you, after all), we just require you to refrain from posting more until posting begins here. All we ask is that you not post any public updates to the fic until February 7th (a week before posting your bragging rights to Dreamwidth and/or Tumblr starts). We don’t want you to lose kudos and comments so don’t worry about pulling the fic down, just hold off on updates for now.
I see that the fic maximum is 7500 words and that published WIPs are acceptable - but what if the WIP I’m considering is already more than 7500 words? If your WIP is already over 7,500 words it is ineligble for the Mini Bang. Hoever, you can submit it for the regualr WIPBB.
What happens if an author finishes the fic they signed up with but it’s more than 7,500 words? Do they have to drop out at that point? By all means, we want your stories to feel as natural as possible, and if it’s over 7,500 words when you finish it, that’s great because you finished the fic! But you can’t submit it for the International Fanworks Day WIPBB Mini Bang because it’s over the maximum word count. But be proud of yourself for finishing the fic!
Is there anything not allowed? As long as you wrote it and you want to finish it, you're welcome to participate. Original fiction is fine. RPS/RPF is fine. Incest pairings are fine. Things like that I know have been hinted at in questions asked and as long as you tag for them, we’ll allow it. Also, canon settings with mostly OCs is allowed. We just ask that it be tagged properly with any content warnings you would deem fit and be given the appropriate rating for the level of sex/violence there is in the fic.
What's the etiquette around OC-centric stories? Ones that are set in a well known fandom and use several characters, but still lean a lot on original characters? Are they discouraged, or fine? As there is no art claims for this Mini Bang, having mostly OC-centric stories is more than fine.
What is, and do I need, a beta? A beta is basically a person who goes over your work to make sure that there are no spelling/grammatical errors and they can even be of assistance in helping you with story lines, etc. It is highly recommended that a beta looks over your work before posting. If you are having trouble finding a beta, try the Discord community.
Where can I post my fic/art? Stories and art can be posted to your own personal journal, Tumblr, ff-net, AO3, or wherever you like. For those of you with AO3 accounts, we will set up a collection that will go live on the first day of the posting. If you don’t currently have an AO3 account but would like one, you can contact the mods for an invitation code to see if they have any available. You can also add yourself to the AO3 Invites Request queue.
What does posting look like? Do we have to post the whole thing on the day, or can we stretch it out between when posting starts and our date? I’ve had a few longfics get killed by big bangs forcing posting to happen on a given day, and would prefer to avoid that if possible. For most fics, posting to AO3/FF.net/other places will be allowed to start on February 7th and you can stretch it out as many posts as you want as long as the complete fic is up by the posting dates (February 15th to Febrary 22nd). However, if you need to post earlier you can start posting February 1st. we want to work with writers to give them ample time to post the story up to their posting date.
Now, as for posting to the communities, you can post at any time between February 15th and February 22nd, without picking a posting date. You’ll post bragging rights similar to those used during the full length WIPBB to Tumblr and/or Dreamwidth with a link to your fic an your bragging, if you choose to include that portion.
How come there aren’t 'art claims'? The quick turnaround in time and the length of time set to write doesn’t leave a lot of time for artists to make art, so the only art allowed to be posted during this event is unfinished art from the 2024 round that has been finished.
Can I get an extension? Community extensions may be given in the event that the majority of the authors/artists need one. They may also be given individually under certain circumstances, but this must be discussed with the mods and will only be a short extension for posting.
Can I swap out a fic if my muse abandons it again? Since you’re not signing up with specific works, you are more than free to swap fics out with other ones.
Can I drop out? Absolutely! This is a lo pressure event so since you aren’t signing up to finish any particuar fic, you can drop out of the event without telling the mods as well.
Are we allowed to participate without joining the Discord? Absolutely! The Discord server is optional, as just another way to interact with your fellow writers and get updates on important dates. It’s not mandatory you join, however.
I was just wondering if there’s any way to enter the bang anonymously? Like would it be okay to put our work in an anonymous collection on ao3 or something? Unfortunately, I can’t think of a way for that to work. The collection that we use is moderated but it’s not anonymous, and there are the bragging posts that you post to Tumblr and/or Dreamwidth, which you would have your username on whichever platform you use. If you don’t want to use a Tumblr or Dreamwidth account for posting your bragging rights, however, you can always send them to the mod account and we can post them on your behalf.
I was just wondering whether I'm sworn to secrecy on which fics I'll be finishing up, or if I can shout it out to the world? No one is sworn to secrecy once they’ve picked a fic to write (aside from posting new parts to fic that’s already up somewhere…we ask that you refrain from doing that until at least February 1st)! If you want to share snippets of your fic as you make progress, that’s fine, just don’t share the whole thing until posting time starts.
I have a question/concern that’s not mentioned here. If you need help, you can always contact a mod and we will do our best to make sure that you get your story/art finished. The best and fastest method of contact is through our email, [email protected].

A03 Questions Tag Game
I got tagged by: @kagedbird I tag: @onethirdofimpossible, @coffincrows, (first two that come to mind) and anyone else who wants to do the game
1 – How many works do you have on AO3?
At the time of writing this post, currently 30 fics. (Not including any fics or written works that are not posted to AO3)
2 – What's your total AO3 word count?
1,066,633
3 – What fandoms do you write for?
Formerly: Don't Starve, FNAF, Dragons Dogma, Invader Zim
Currently: Cult of the Lamb
4 – What are your top five fics by kudos?
Solar Lunacy, Celestial Omens, Bytes of Lunacy, The Rehabilitation of Death, Saturday Insomnia
5 – Do you respond to comments?
I try to but I also get very nervous responding because I often don't know what to say back and I feel like it's almost rude or disrespectful to respond to a comment, esp the very nice ones that are long and in-deph with just a keysmash or a bunch of emojis, but I do read every single one since I have email notifications on for them
I'd like to sit down and respond to many but I really don't want to make it awkward so pls dear god readers forgive me
6 – What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I don't like unhappy endings. I enjoy angsty stories but I like when it's at least ending happy to me
7 – What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Not posted? Solar Lunacy
Ongoing? TROD
8 – Do you get hate on fics?
Not really? Most adults (in my experience) know the 'don't like don't read' rule and know basic online etiquette. I've gotten some for discontinuing a fic or switching fandoms though
9 – Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
I don't write or draw NSFW! I like to make some suggestive themes sometimes, but I'm a very ace person, it's not something I do often. (I do have a current running goal that if my friend reaches their donation goal for their medical bills that I would give NSFW a shot, but again its not really my cup of tea)
10 – Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
Nah I haven't written any cross overs, but I do draw them sometimes. Recently I've been spinning a Alice in Wonderland x COTL crossover in my head.
11 – Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Yep. I've had people copy and paste my work, go in with a thesaurus to change a few words (like changing 'angry' to mad, 'upset' to 'sad', and so forth) to try and avoid detection and re-posted my written work under a different title name. AO3 staff took them down for violating their policy against plagiarism though
12 – Have you ever had a fic translated?
No. I wouldn't mind it so as long as I'm asked before hand, though not on anon so I can actually work with the person to prevent any mistranslations or mishandling, and that I don't want my work posted to other websites
13 – Have you ever co-written a fic?
I think I did when I was a teen but I cannot remember now
14 – What's your all-time favorite ship?
Eh I don't have any favorites, just ones I really focus on for a long while
15 – What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Pass.
16 – What are your writing strengths?
I can sit down for hours or several days and work on a writing wip completely in the zone. I cant do it on command but its at least something I can do
17 – What are your writing weaknesses?
Spelling and grammar, and sometimes long running sentences. I just kinda write, theres not really a goal for it to be perfect though so as long as the story gist and vibe is right, im fine with it
18 – Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I've done it before but only minor, had a friend help me with it (one or two lines of dialogue) Aside from that, I'm not comfortably fluent enough in anything to do it again without assistance
19 – First fandom you wrote for?
Soul Eater, when I was wayyy too young to be posting anything on the internet. My fanfics I wrote are still on fanfic.net to this day
20 – Favorite fic you've written?
It's inbetween TROD and EE&E right now

MCU x pjo please? Preferably Percy centered but if not thats ok! Thank youuuuu <333
Hey there! We've got seven Percy-centric fics for you -- just mind the tags. Enjoy!
Aquaman? Whoops, Wrong Universe by YourLocalNerd09
Percy Jackson is doing his best to lie low. Finish high school so he can graduate and move on with the rest of his life. Unfortunately, the Fates have other plans when his classmate and friend, Peter Parker, gets a call that might just change the trajectory of Percy's life...
Lean On Me [series] by Cosmic_Pumpkin_King
[no series summary, first fic summary]:
When Loki was young, he had a companion by his side that would always listen to him. They were as close as anyone could be, always playing pranks on people and causing mayhem around the palace. What happens one day when his companion disappears? What happens when he returns only to find Loki causing a war in Midgard?
What could they do? (Army Dreamers) [series] by ratking_withnotail
Percy Jackson was never meant to be normal; no matter what world he was thrust into, he stood out. He was too divine for the demigods, his godly heritage casting a light that few could truly understand. And in the mortal world? He was barely mortal enough to blend in, always straddling the line between their rules and his reality. Now, for the first time, it felt like he’d found a place where he truly belonged: his little house by the sea. It wasn’t an easy journey to get here. But somehow, against all odds, Percy had carved out this small, perfect corner of the world—a place where being himself wasn’t just accepted but felt right.
Demigods in New York? Give me a Break. by Imikitti
Percy sighed, his head resting in his hands. He could feel his mother and his girlfriend looking at him, waiting for him to fill them in. “Well, Percy?” Sally gave him a reassuring but worried smile. “Ready to tell us how all this happened?” He sighed again, and began to explain. Or Percy gets recruited by SHIELD to join The Avengers and drags Annabeth along with him.
Peter Parker and Percy Jackson Don't Like Field Trips by @daisytrails
Peter Parker was excited to go on his senior field trip until his homeroom teacher, Mr. Blofis, announced that they were going to none other than Stark Industries. He knew that the trip would be chaotic, but he hadn't expected his classmates Percy Jackson and Rachel Dare to have anything to do with it.
Bound to happen by chicken_sink
On their way back to camp from a mission, Argo III breaks down flying over downtown Manhattan. Luckily for them, Chiron knows someone, or, several someones, who can help. Basically, "What if the Avengers met (some of) the Seven?", including a lot of bad jokes by Leo, bonding, people being intimidated by Percy, and Earth's Mightiest Heroes desperately trying to keep up with Earth's Most Chaotic Demigods.
The Lost Soldiers by denimbeans
Bucky didn't quite believe the email when Shuri first showed it to him. Why on Earth would Tony Stark agree to house him? Not only that, but to help him? But if there was a chance, no matter how small, that he could get rid of the Soldier... Well, he just had to take it. Percy's wasn't sure what to think. On one hand, he feels for Bucky Barnes. The man's been through hell and back; something Percy knows all too much about. But on the other, he's a ticking time bomb. Percy wants to help him, he really does. But if the Soldier made a reappearance... Percy knew he'd have no choice but to put his duty first. To kill James Barnes without hesitation.
Don't forget to leave kudos, leave a comment, and happy reading!

It's the 28th of February, and this means: the last official day of The Terror February Flash!
There are currently 50 lovely works in the collection. We hope that several more will slide in just under the wire before the day ends. There are still 79 unposted claims...
But what if you didn't manage to post your fill to the collection in time?
🦀 The crab says: Keep working on it, please! 🦀 (Look, it cheers you on! Wheeee!)
This is where our grace period comes into play. The event collection on the AO3 will stay open all throughout March – a rule that had been in place from the beginning, mostly for the benefit of longer, multi-chapter works. Shorter works of any kind (including art!) will, however, also find a warm welcome.
Even claiming of prompts will still be possible, but priority should be on filling the already claimed ones. As such prompt memes usually go, there will always be some prompts left that have not been filled, but let's try our best to reduce this number a bit.
Instead of our daily announcements of new works on the P!atC server and here on Tumblr, we will only do weekly wrap-ups, though. At the end of March, once the collection is truly closed (and close it must, because that's the spirit of such events), we will publish the final masterlist.
How does de-anoning work?
If you want your work(s) de-anoned, please let us know soon, so that we can take care of this when we close the collection. You will then have your creator name also on the masterlist and can make use of your bragging rights! ;-)
Just send us a message here on Tumblr or an email to: [email protected], or ping larissabernstein on Discord, and make sure to include: the specific work(s) you want de-anoned, with title and URL, and the creator name you use on the AO3. We will collect all the requests and then manually take care of them at the end of March.
Anything else the crab wants to say? 🦀
Yes, it is the crab's heartfelt wish that you go forth and give the works in the collection your love. Kudos, comments, reblogs, recs in your spaces.
We are truly in awe of all your lovely submissions, this wonderful talent in our fandom, and we are grateful for the enthusiastic participation! And of course we are also grateful for all the readers and enjoyers of the February Flash works.
All together now: wheeeeeeee!!!! 🦀 🦀 🦀 🦀 🦀 🦀 🦀 🦀 🦀 🦀 🦀

Can an experienced fanfic writer give me some advice?
I’m normally not this vulnerable on the internet but I just want some advice on something that happened to me.
So for context, I used to love writing. In middle school and my early years of high school I wrote my own cheesy stories, fan fictions and I even got a chance to write short stories for school assignments. I decided to get back into writing for my New Year’s resolution. I didn’t have a lot of time to write for fun this spring but now I’m home for the summer and decided to go for it.
I haven’t publicly posted a lot of my writing (I used to post short, original stories) but figured, “What’s the harm in putting myself out there?” So I started writing a fanfic about one of the shows I loved as a kid.
I chose the site Archive of our Own/AO3 (I heard it was a good, trustworthy site. I still think so) and saw that it had a feature to leave notes from the author. I decided to put at the top of each chapter that I welcomed any and all critiques. I figured just because writing is my hobby didn’t mean I couldn’t improve.
Over the course of three or so days, I uploaded the first four chapters of my fanfic. AO3 sent me an email notification that I had my first comment. I opened it to find a guest account criticizing me. Not as a writer, but as a person.
The comment said that I was begging for attention, only cared about getting comments and that my work wasn’t what the world needed. I was hurt but figured that this person didn’t know me personally and I shouldn’t let it get to me. I deleted the comment and tried to get on with my day.
Later in the same day, I get an email about another comment. Different guest account criticizing me, saying that I’m begging for attention, that I craved external validation and I was in the wrong hobby if that was the case. Again, I deleted the comment, thinking that I was doing the right thing.
That night, as I’m working on the fifth chapter, I get another email about another comment. It’s a third guest account. This one was kind of different. Basically the account said that they weren’t trying to be mean, just honest. They said how they had seen me upload several chapters over just a few days with little to no engagement (at this time, I saw about 40 people had at least checked out my fic). They said basically how I shouldn’t strain myself and suggested that I should write privately or just quit altogether. They went on to say that they had seen my fic be buried under better written stories with more comments and kudos and I should take the lack of engagement as a hint.
I had literally only had my account for like, three days at this point. Given how similarly all three guest comments were worded, I realized there were two possibilities.
1) These were three different people who all happened to share similar opinions.
2) There was one person behind all the accounts who kept commenting critiques of me as a person without even knowing me.
It’s hard to describe how I felt when I considered possibility two. I guess I felt unsafe, almost (?). I get that the person(s) behind the accounts didn’t have my actual email or anything but I digress.
I figured that if a person(s) was going to go out of their way to say something about me as a person that was critical of me as a person over a fan fiction, it wasn’t worth it to keep my AO3 account.
I deleted my AO3 account, which meant I was also deleting the story.
I guess I’m posting about what happened to me to ask if I made a smart choice. I know that people criticizing others on the internet isn’t anything new but I’m worried that I somehow missed something.
Did I miss an unspoken rule of the fanfic community by asking for critiques on my story or deleting the comments?
I’m genuinely asking because I love to write and I am concerned I didn’t do enough to prepare myself by putting my work out there publicly.
Thank you.

does anyone else do this thing where you kind of, like, notice which fics of yours a reader's gives kudo to, notice the patterns of the the fics. because ao3 sends out the daily kudo emails which summarize the kudos within that day, when grouped together you can sometimes sort of notice these things. and i like noticing patterns it's fun.
it's usually like, this user left kudos on 7 fics with pairing AB -> ah they probably like AB. cool! this user left kudos on several fics with pairing CD -> they like CD. that's fun! this user left kudos on a fic that has pairing AB, another fic with pairing AC, another fic with pairing AD -> ah they probably like character A and enjoy different A pairings. so do i! this person left kudos on fics with different femslash pairings, including the ones that the two characters that have not canonically met -> HELLO FELLOW F/F RAREPAIRS LOVER <3. this user leaves kudos on several explicit fics of a specific pairing, and the same character tops in all of them -> ah i see you have a preference
and i just think that's cool. and sometimes you can tell they're likely going down a specific character tag or pairing tag, by the pattern. kind of like how you can tell when someone reblogs a string of posts from you that all has the same tag, something like that.

Currently in a long ass line for early voting (PLEASE VOTE IF YOU LIVE IN THE USA BTW, so many of our rights are at stake!!!) and I got a kudos email from ao3 for The Avatar and the Fire Prince… so I went to check and I now have 3,002 kudos??? 🤯😭
I just wanna say thank you so so SO much to everyone who has taken the time to read this fic - I never in my wildest dreams could have imagined that it would ever get this much attention when I first started posting it way back in January 2022. I even gave up posting for several months after the first couple chapters because I wasn’t confident in my ability to write, and was overcritical of myself. But since December 2022, I’ve done my best to keep up with updating TAatFP at least once a month, and I’m proud to say that I’ve been able to keep up with that fairly well for the most part.
TAatFP is a labor of love and truly one of the only things I’ve ever managed to maintain a vested interest in almost 3 years after starting it. I still literally think about this fic every day (even if I don’t always write for it every day, and I’m so glad I do lol.
It’s really funny to me that despite being a superfan of AtLA since 2007, I was not even a Zukaang shipper until late 2021 when I had my epiphany about the ship, and now it has become my top ship above anything else in any other fandom despite not even being canon! I’m SO happy that TAatFP has opened so many people’s eyes to the potential of the ship!
Anywayyyyy I hope you all have a great Halloween! I’m going to be spending the next week playing Dragon Age: The Veilguard (I took off work for it lmao), so I apologize if the next TAatFP chapter is posted later than usual - though I’ve already managed to get a large chunk of it written thankfully, so hopefully it won’t be too much later than usual.
(Also, I’m sorry that I haven’t gotten to responding to comments for the last two chapters for those who have taken the time to leave them - it’s been a busy couple of months, and I really need to just sit down and answer them all in a chunk 😅)
I appreciate all of you so much! ❤️❤️❤️
- KJ

[serious] is there a nejiten renaissance rn? the past few days i’ve gotten several hits in the lil daily email from ao3 as opposed to the occasional one off or a series of kudos from one reader. i say we seize the moment, but am i the only one or are others seeing an uptick in kudos as well??
#char chats#nejiten#i hope this doesn’t sound weirdly self fellating or anything#idk if this is a Me thing or if the community is abuzz once more

Fanfic/Author writing game
8. What’s your favorite line/section from We Can Use the Polaroid.
14. What makes you happiest? New fic comments, kudos, bookmarks, user subscribers, story subscribers, or Tumblr asks?
23. What’s a story you’d love to write but haven’t even started yet?
ohhhh thank you!
8. interesting choice! god. i need to reread...hold, please. (linky for anyone who wants)
okay, this might seem basic but the map-folding magic is probs my fave:
Ray agrees as he tries to fold up one of the maps that they’d dug out. Trevor grins as he takes it from Ray and easily folds it up properly. “Magic, I swear,” Ray murmurs under his breath. Trevor laughs. “It’s a special skill.” He makes a show of wiggling his fingers, “Many talents in these hands.”
14. when i get an email or several days worth of emails where the same person has kudosed multiple fics. i think that's my favourite, even above comments. cuz they clearly like my writing enough to go through my library and that's really fucking cool
23. Totally Killer AU 😁
thank youuuuuu 🥰🥰🥰

Tagged by @thisisevenharderthannamingablog , thank you my friend!
1. How many works do you have on AO3? 21
2. What’s your total AO3 word count? 358,747 1/3 is that is Light of All Lights
3. What fandoms do you write for? It depends on what my hyperfixation is but right now just Stolitz. I have dreams of finishing my CS fics but realistically I don’t think that’s coming back.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
1. Light of All Lights (by a mile, I will never see success like that again 🤣)
2. Sleep Shifts (a dark horse I wrote on my phone so fast but people really dug it)
3. Whether We Wake or Sleep (my greatest shame)
4. Dear Anonymous (my first on AO3!)
5. How to Become a Witch in Ten Easy Lessons (I love this one, it was so fucking fun)
5. Do you respond to comments? I try to! Especially if they’ve given me something to respond to. I feel silly being like “Thanks” to things like “loved it” “great story”. I appeciate them so much don’t get me wrong, but it’s like replying Thanks to emails for me, a waste of a notification for someone.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? I usually do happy endings but His Brightest Star Was You was kind of a bummer.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Probably Light of All Lights, it was the most earned but I didn’t finish several that could have been contenders.
8. Do you get hate on fics? No, I don’t think I ever have? I’ve had people question my writing choices but never hate.
9. Do you write smut? Sure, if it serves the story and characters, I don’t usually write PWP though.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? Not really, I don’t enjoy reading them so I don’t write them either.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not that I am aware of, if you did cut that shit out.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Yes, it was very sweet.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? No, never had the opportunity and I’m not sure if I could. I get too excited over my own shit and I’d probably be a nightmare for them.
14. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? I remain hopeful Whether We Wake or Sleep will come back to me so I can finish it. I really love that fic but the show just burnt me out so bad. I reread it all the time and try again every few months so one day maybe. I don’t even know if there is anyone around who’d even wanna read it tbh.
15. What are your writing strengths? I’ve been told I am good at dialogue and like immersive environments/ world building, I work really hard on those aspects so I like being validated about it.
16. What are your writing weaknesses? I’m wordy as fuck, and comma splices. I am queen of the comma splice. Not a weakness per say but I think some people have trouble with my “drop them in and let them figure it out based on how the characters are interacting with the world” style versus like big lore or magic system exposition drops.
17. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? I’m doing this in Sheltered and He’s Just Not That Into You for Vassago, I worry I’m messing it up but people haven’t said anything so far.
18. First fandom you wrote for? I used to do Rugrats fanfic for my brother and sister, like tell them stories about it at bedtime. The first fandom I wrote for was either Sailor Moon or DBZ when I was like 10. Those have been lost to time. The first fandom I was heavily involved in as a writer was Roswell.
19. Favorite fic you’ve written? Light of All Lights, hands down. It was a beautiful experience, just inspiration and words flowing so fast and feeling like I was really creating something lovely. People really resonated with it and it was so much fun. I feel that same spark with my original web series Myrth so it’s nice to feel that again, but the fandom interaction with LOAL was something else and I’ll take that experience with me forever.
I’m not sure who to tag so if you do this please let me know!

AO3 tag game!
Tagged by @theevilcactus! Thank you! Sorry it took so long!
total number of AO3 works: 170
total AO3 word count: 1,359,735
fandoms I’ve written for: Star Wars, Marvel, Dirk Gently, Supernatural, Good Omens, What We Do In The Shadows, DC, Adventure Zone, Succession, Harry Potter
Some of these are now defunct for me: I do not foresee any Succession or Harry Potter fics in my future.
top five fics by kudos:
1: In Which Foggy Nelson Will Absolutely File That Sexual Harassment Claim, Matt
2: family means no one gets left behind or forgotten
3: In Which The Avengers and Daredevil Don’t Know How To Share Friends and Foggy Nelson Has The Patience Of A Saint
4: In Which Foggy Nelson Gets To Exercise His Abilities As One Of The Official Avengers Lawyers
5: In Which Foggy Nelson and Matt Murdock Inadvertently Adopt A Webslinger and His (Possibly) Crazy Roommate
I cannot BUHlieve so many of the In Whichs are up here. I was really in the right place at the right time with the Mattfoggy fandom.
Do I respond to comments: God, I want to. I’m so bad at it. I try and answer a few a month at least. I read them all, though, and the emails always make me delighted. Someone dropped me a comment tonight asking if I had a link to a fettuccine alfredo recipe I referenced in my latest Stucky fic and it made my whole evening.
What has the most angst ridden ending?: Probably absolute power? I don’t do a lot of unhappy endings- I like to at least end on a hopeful note.
What has the happiest ending: Uhhhhhh fuck. Almost all my fics have happy endings. I’m gonna say Revenant, because theirs feels the most earned.
Have I received hate?: I mean. Define hate, I guess? I’ve had people be shitty to me for sure. But they’re mostly just rude and entitled. Nobody’s ever denigrated me as a person for my work.
Do I write smut? If so, what kind?: Smut is just not in my wheelhouse, I’m afraid.
Do I write crossovers?: Very rarely. I wrote a Good Omens/Dirk Gently crossover and I wrote a Dirk Gently/Discworld crossover. I think that’s it. I do have an AU where Steve Rogers and Diana of Themiscyra are bros kicking around, but I don’t think I’m actually going to do anything with it. It’s mostly a layout and vibes.
Have I ever had a fic stolen?: Not that I’m aware of, but I don’t actually read much fic these days, so it’s entirely possible somebody has and I just haven’t seen it.
Have I ever had a fic translated?: Yes, several! Podficced as well. It’s always a delight.
Have I ever co written a fic?: nearly every Dirk Gently fic I wrote I co wrote with @princessparadoxical. Between published fic and unpublished layouts and notes for fic, we wrote about 500,000 words for Dirk Gently.
A WIP I’ll never finish: Claireverse. Absolutely Claireverse. Every other WIP in my arsenal, I entertain ideas of getting it finished, but Claireverse is never happening.
Writing strengths: Definitely dialogue. Dialogue is one of the things I do really well. I also think I’m moderately good at getting a character voice right.
Writing weaknesses: ACTION SCENES. There’s a reason @punkpuppydragon wrote all the action scenes in Revenant.
Do I like foreign language dialogue: It’s got a time and a place. I use it when I think it’s necessary, but I always provide translations.
First fandom I wrote for: it’s gotta be Star Wars. like, I can’t PROVE that it was Star Wars, I don’t remember what my first fic was, but the odds are EXTREMELY high that it was Star Wars.
Favorite fic I’ve written: This is kinda cheating, but to me the main arc of Revenant is One Story. I can’t really disentangle one from the other. So I’m gonna say the main arc of Revenant. It’s the hardest I’ve ever worked on anything, potentially including my masters.
Tagging @dont-offend-the-bees, @kieren-fucking-walker, and anybody else who may be interested!

several things I’m not normal about re: your writing. one, you wrote almost 62,000 words of devil’s minion in 15 days, as of today. and you’re not even done yet! two, i liked how neatly the counts of all your iwtv fics ended on zeroes, and then i looked at all your fics on ao3 and THEY ALL END ON EVEN TEN HUNDRED AND THOUSAND COUNTS?!! your autism is too powerful, kudos for that alone. armand is in the best hands with you.
Hah, hi, anon. I was wondering like a month ago when the semi-annual ask in which somebody yells about my AO3 word-counts would land, and sure enough, I was overdue and could sense it. Thank you very much for noticing! I take this as a compliment whenever someone brings it up; the fact that they’re almost always yelling like they’re losing their mind fucking delights me. Like, does it take a lot of careful excision in the editing process because AO3 reckons word counts differently from Word and Google Docs? Eh, sometimes, sure. Does it please me? More than I can say.
My other weird Autistic habits include using a pocketknife or seam ripper to remove the belt loops from all of my jeans (no, I do not wear belts, and belt loops fucking annoy me like non-zero-ending word counts), preferring pendant chains that I can just slip over my head after I’ve asked my local jeweler to remove the jump/rings clasps and make the chains continuous (I’m amazed they’ve humored me for so long; I should just really learn to do delicate soldering work one of these days, but my motor control at a fine level is poor), and never leaving messages in my email inboxes or on my work/home laptop desktops (my folders/filing systems regularly get friends and co-workers bent out of shape). I don’t keep unread emails around, period; the only time my inbox has a number of unread messages is first thing in the morning, and I clear those quickly.
This is way more info than you needed, but in case you were wondering what the fuck kind of brain produces only-ending-on-zero AO3 word counts, there’s your answer. I’m sure there are some compulsive thought patterns in play here, too, but I figure they’re mostly harmless manifestations as long as I’m happy.
Oh, the other thing—writing 62k of fic in 15 days isn’t even the wildest word count I’ve ever pulled in a short amount of time, although it’s close. It’s the hyperfocus. And believe me when I say that my hyperfocus isn’t good for anything but writing and depriving myself of sleep.

20 questions for 20 writers
tagged by @thatfragilecapricorn30 @randomfoggytiger and @baronessblixen thank you!! <3
1. How many works do you have on AO3? 21
2. What’s your total AO3 word count? 70.063 -- this is my new AO3, so that's why it's still so low, haha.
3. What fandoms do you write for? Only X-Files now.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos? spectacular (glasses sex!), it's the day the world didn't end, from this morning forward (that makes me so happy), got you covered, wild side
5. Do you respond to comments? yes. if I ever don't, I'm sorry, it's not because i didn't love your comment, but i just don't get around to it right away sometimes. but i try to reply to every single one because i love them all.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? ohhh. i don't write super angsty endings . . . I guess mend into pieces bc it's season 2 and they know they're making a mistake, but we all know they'll figure it out eventually, so.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? they pretty much all end happily. i'm going to more or less randomly pick five ways to say i love you. because i loved writing that ending.
8. Do you get hate on fics? so, okay. there are two stories here i want to tell from an old fandom. one is funny. one is kind of great, really?
the funny one: i got a looooong comment on a fic, like several paragraphs long, going into great detail about why the fic sucked and why i sucked and why i had personally offended them by writing fic at all. they obvs meant to comment anonymously but forgot to log out. by the time i got to my computer, they had deleted their entire account. of course i had their name in the ao3 email. i laughed so hard at that.
the kind of amazing one: i got a very rude anon on tumblr, and i responded by saying i'd be happy to discuss their criticism, but i wasn't going to have a conversation with a hockey puck with sunglasses, and asked them to come off anon so we could talk. and they did! they showed up in my dms a short while later. we solved nothing and did not part as friends, but i actually have mad respect for that. wherever they are today, i hope they have taken some anger management classes and are doing well!
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? yeah, i certainly do. idk what kind? the porny kind? lol no i mean it's kind of lame but fun.
10. Do you write crossovers? i wrote a stargate atlantis/firefly crossover centuries ago but that was it. or maybe start trek with sth else, i don't remember.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? not to my knowledge.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? i don't think so, no.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? yes! it's so much fun and i would do it again.
14. What’s your all-time favorite ship? mulder and scully!
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? i plan to finish all of them.
16. What are your writing strengths? it used to be dialogue but i don't think it is anymore. idk? i think i can create an atmosphere?
17. What are your writing weaknesses? i tend to repeat myself a lot and then skip over other things completely. i'm not good with transitions between scenes.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? i haven't done it, but if it would make sense for a fic, i might do it.
19. First fandom you wrote for? stargate atlantis. i was very late to the fanfic party.
20. Favorite fic you’ve written? it's called 'ellipsis' and is still with the beta. but of the ones i've already posted, either from this morning forward or yesterday's future.
Randomfoggytiger added additional questions:
1. Is writing a hobby or way of life? i mean it's a hobby but it's definitely also a way of life. there isn't ever a time when i don't think about writing and everything all the time connects in some way to a thing i'm writing and i can't imagine what i'd do without writing.
2. A journal full of writing notes or a clean, completed manuscript? completed manuscript! or notes? uhh . . . both?
3. Who (or what) is your writing inspiration? everything. random things. i can't think of one specific thing, it can be literally anything.
4.Which is worse: someone you "idolize" reading your first draft or listening to you sing? both thoughts are equally awful lol
5. Has writing from someone else's POV ever changed your own perspective? yeah, i think so. not in any big way, but about smaller stuff, just the way i look at certain things? yes.
6. Tumblr, AO3, LiveJournal, or FFN? ao3!!! my tinkerbell brain loves the comment section, haha. also it's just so much nicer to read on ao3 and there's the download option, so also as a reader, def ao3.
7. AO3 wordcount, and are you satisfied with it? 70.063 - no, i'm not satisfied with it. i used to write multi-chapters with more words. but it's a new account so yeah starting small again.
8. What movie/book/fic gripped you irrevocably? jasper fforde's 'thursday next' series. it's where i stole my name from. literary detectives? oh man. it's the kind of story where you wish you'd had the idea first. go read it!!!!!
9. What's the highest compliment you could ever be given, and have you been given it? i am really really lucky to have been given so many amazing compliments and i appreciate every single one. i couldn't say what means the most to me . . . probably when it's personal to the commenter? when someone tells me sth i've written touched them in some way. bc that's what i want to achieve.
10. What defines your writing style? lol idek man pretentious purple prose? i think i live somewhere between overuse of metaphors and focus on the rhythm of a text. i love writing in english bc it flows so nicely. idk is trying to make it sound nice a style bc then that's at least what i'm going for.
who hasn't been tagged? no pressure tags for @backintimeforstuff @nachosncheezies @actual-changeling and everybody else who wants to!
#this was fun thanks for tagging me!#i get so excited every time i get tagged in sth it makes me feel so cool lol#and these are always so much fun

An On-Going List of My Fanfics
I require validation to justify my own existence, so PLEASE feel free to leave kudos & comment on these
For Shame And For You
“I don’t give a damn if you’re a pirate or a prince—“ “Privateer,” Sturmhond interrupted, silencing Kaz. “If we wish to speak in technicalities. Privateer king. Nice ring to it, no? And judging from how riled up you’ve gotten, I’d say you’re right, you don’t give a damn. You give several. Now, may I finish?” It wasn’t often that someone spoke like this, spoke with balls enough to challenge Dirtyhands. Equal parts intrigued and miffed, he snapped “Fine.” Sturmhond smiled, but his expression quickly turned sober. “Mr. Brekker— Kaz. May I call you Kaz?” “No.” “Kaz,” he began. OR: During Kaz and Sturmhond's talk in the Solarium, Kaz makes one final demand of the privateer, and the two find they may be more similar than they are different.
Fantasy High One Shots But They're Exclusively About Adaine Abernant
What the title says. Many of these will be in the vein of "what I thought Adaine was thinking during X canon interaction". These might veer slightly from said canonical interactions, just for brevity or my own preference to make the scene work. Some of them are Adaine adjacent (ie, from Aelwyn's POV, etc). We've got some angst, some fluff, and a lot of nonsense! Enjoy!!!!
Bad Kids, Bad Beach
When Fabian receives an email from his father's lawyer asking him to come check out a house listed under his name, the Bad Kids pile in for a beach day. But things quickly go sinisterly wrong...
You are someone I have loved but never known
Adaine shows Aelwyn their room for the first time. It's harder than they thought it would be. But they're trying.
Adaine talks to Gorgug about rage, and spite, and growing up in a cruel home, and how maybe anger is not so bad, at the right times.
