you hate having nosebleeds in public, but maybe there's a silver lining in the form of remus lupin

sitting around a table in the three broomsticks with your boyfriend, and possibly one too many people to keep up with, was about the last moment on earth you'd want to feel the familiar warmth tingling in your nose.

you raised a tentative hand to press against your face, checking for blood, and waiting for it to arrive.

lily noticed your frown, sitting on the other side of you with james, and tapped your leg with an inquiring expression.

"nosebleed." you whispered nervously, feeling the blood coming further down. it would be spilling onto your lips in a matter of seconds.

remus and his heightened sense of hearing picked out your hushed response and immediately turned to you to confirm what he'd heard.

he placed a hand lightly where your neck met the back of your shoulders, prompting your head to fall to your lap.

your voice thickened as the nosebleed hit, streaming down the front of your face and dripping into your lap.

"do you have a-"

"course i do." you knew he would be smiling softly without looking at him, as he handed you a fresh handkerchief from the pocket of his jeans.

from where his hand stroked against your cheek in a futile attempt to comfort you, remus could feel the embarrassed heat in your face.

the others didn't say anything, looking on with some sympathy but knowing well enough from past experience you'd prefer everyone to carry on talking as they were.

it didn't last too long, slowing to a complete stop around three minutes later. the handkerchief was completely stained, but a wave of a wand and it was snowy white again.

"alright, love?"

you sniffed cautiously, just to check, before letting out a breath and raising your head to meet his gaze. something that felt suspiciously like butterflies imposed on your stomach as you saw his eyes trailing over your face for any sign of distress, the slightest crease in his brows.

it made you feel so sickeningly cared for.

you remembered his question, "er- yeah, i'm fine, sorry... about that."

remus only shook his head with a bemused eyeroll, "why are you apologizing, sweetheart?"

that was a difficult question, so you shrugged.

"d'ya wanna go back to the castle?"

considering, you looked around your merry little group and, surprising yourself, shook your head, "no, i'd like to stay."

remus pulled you further into his side with a pleased demeanor, reinserting himself in peter and mary's heated debate about the logistics of an enchanted cloak.

you were happy just to watch him get so involved. maybe some lingering happiness from the initials you'd seen stitched onto his handkerchief.

r.l, neatly embroidered by his mother, and then yours, rough and just legible, definitely added by him.

and, 'course' he always had it on him, for you.

woke up from a nightmare with a nosebleed <- normal things that happen to normal people

headaches, gasping for air, bloody noses, dissociation, and the visions that never stop, that take them away from the world at the worst times, leaving them vulnerable, open, disoriented and afraid upon waking.

they're forced to see the future, death and destruction, taunted by things they can't prevent but the bait in their eyes saying, "maybe you can. you know what's going to happen. you can fight it; isn't that why you see?" but in the end, it's impossible--and they're left with the guilt of seeing something too late, watching their nightmares unfold in front of them.

maybe they see the past, though, of their friends, of fallen kingdoms and collapsed ruins. can't go two feet into a library without passing out, lost in its history. stepping into old memories, of their friends and their secrets, or into their own traumas, over and over, unable to escape.

and it all feels so terribly, hauntingly real. they are drowning, they are being branded, they're really watching an ages-old war unfold, standing in the middle of the field with spears pressed into their chest and back, they can feel the blood pouring from open wounds and they can feel their bones breaking, every time they're torn from reality it's just another godforsaken nightmare.

Do Skeletons nosebleed? My nose bled last night and it was so weird, I was asleep then I awoke to my nose bleeding, I poured some water into it to stop bleeding, and it stopped bleeding.

having random nosebleeds sucks but it’s also the funniest thing that can happen at any given moment honestly. One time at work a customer annoyed me so much I just started bleeding out of my face. power move of the century

Afrin (Oxymetazoline) can stop nosebleeds. It vasoconstricts. You can put some on some cotton and shove it up the nose. Posterior nose bleeds can be life-threatening in old people. My attending just told us about that.

It may seem kind of silly, but…. How about Whumpee consuming things they definitely shouldn’t and they actually know about it? Maybe they are showing off in front of Caretaker, boasting and telling the other that they are invulnerable or something like that.

yes yes yes!!! pride is such a good downfall, I love it. also nosebleeds. are SO GOOD. i adore them so much. that quiet "you good? you've got something," vague motioning, until Whumpee raises a hand and brushes beneath their nose and it comes away slick with blood. that soft "oh..." of realization yes yes YES
