The Professor and I

summary: A conversation can lead into a million things. These things can turn into the best decisions ever made.

A/N: just wanna say I had a blast on this small project and revisiting my first mcu crush as well as releasing some fic ideas I had in mind while the loki show ran. Thank you guys so much for the love and I hope you really enjoy this final chapter. xo.

Carpe Diem

She started work in late October and he was well into beginning a script for an english film. Did that stop them from having plans for themselves underway? No, and just like that they had prepped a day to elope.

They didn't want the whole fuss of wedding day plans and schedules for everyone. They just wanted each other and nothing more. City hall was only some miles away. It rained on the day, but for some reason it felt perfect. Once everything was signed and the pair had left the building the laughter and smiles on their faces were impossible to get rid of.

In an interesting turn of events her husband had made a change for the evening. As they ate their celebratory dinner at the Michelin star restaurant he'd read about, Tom suggested, "we should go explore the night life...what would you say to going to a night club?" Sonya raised an eyebrow, "really? Filled with people much younger than you?" He shrugged, "why not?" She giggled, "okay then." He reached for his glass of wine and lifted it, she returned the gesture and they toasted to the wild idea.

Arriving to a rooftop club they'd heard about from one of her old friends, they saw the rain had ended and the place was busy. She'd never taken him for a dancer or someone who would enjoy those types of spaces. However, he proved her wrong as he led her into the dance floor. The music was booming and laser lights hit everywhere making the atmosphere around them feel so alive.

Drinks started making rounds and the more they downed, the more provocative it all became. She'd worn a silk dress for the night and the smoothness of fabric allowed for his hands to roam everywhere. All the while she danced against. They had some kisses which tasted of fruity liquor and their eyes were full blown with lust.

Luckily for them there was no security to guard the washrooms. Escaping into a stall the married pair began to somewhat undress each other. She couldn't help but giggle as she undid the zipper of trousers, "I never took you as the type to do dirty things in a night club." He turned around hiking up her dress and moving her panties to the side, "my wife is a temptress and I cant get enough of her." His voice somewhat muffled lowly into her skin as he began entering her while placing sloppy kisses over her shoulder.

Her head rolling back onto his shoulder as he began to thrust into her. They were practically deviants, but it felt too good and too fun for her to say anything. His hands found their way to her breasts. Her quiet whimpers and moans kept him going. He could feel her tightening around him. With a desperate need for release she weakly whispered to him, "harder. I'm almost there." With another rut of his hips he grunted, "almost there too dove." Then it happened, his mouth letting out a broken cry all the while her legs quivered.

They dressed as quickly as possible in hopes of not getting caught. Thankfully the music was still booming and the people were still locked onto the dancefloor. Fleeing the scene they laughed like schoolchildren about what they'd just done.

It'd been well into December, months later after their little mischief. Though she never finished her mastery, she was becoming a prodigy under her new boss in the MET. Tom already having made a name of himself in the writing business was now taking on new ventures into producing and directing.

Behind their successes though was an interesting and mostly quiet love story. People sometimes raised an eyebrow, but around their scene it was usually taken well. Many of Sonya's friends and family were actually quite pleased with the man she chose. Tom's kin were quite happy that'd he found someone who he could actually smile with.

New York had also become their safe haven and escape. It was a mix of their old homes respectively. They planned to move into a bigger place the following year. The pictures of them and their friends all around their current flat, began to fill certain rooms.

At times, they still think back to the odd way they finally had a proper chat. They even wonder what happened to poor George and if he ever graduated. She jokes he probably whined his way to his mastery. Still, they're continuing to know each other more than the day before.

The flame never dies, they go on dates and sometimes think about possibly having a family. On other days when its all too overwhelming he recites his favorite soliloquies or poems to her before bed. She'll sit and listen to him go on and on when he's either upset or fully entranced on a subject or work. It never gets easier, but it's never hard work either. They love each other, they found each other, they made happiness where they might have otherwise only ever been academic achievements.

Things went of the rails in my class re: signature lady. She handed in a revision of her previous piece that dealt with all kinds of trauma - every type of abuse, from family members and then her husband. Then, racism encountered in America. The writing is very fragmented and can be difficult to follow (but to an extent she wants it that way) and then she weaves it in with long swaths of just history, like from a textbook or Wikipedia, about the place where she first moved in America. It has been hard to know how to respond to the piece but I think I did a pretty good job (in fact I know I did, because she wrote back thanking me profusely, and said she could tell I understand her, and then added a bunch more stuff from, I think, Wikipedia for me to continue my education…)

Some people in class also leave comments on a group editing document - line edits. I don’t because it was listed as optional. So I missed The Incident, but apparently an older white student (who I like but is certainly a bit dotty) left a comment on the group document, that signature lady found so offensive that she didn’t want to participate in being workshopped so she missed class that day (and…as a result we were able to actually have meaningful discussions that she did not derail with long unrelated stories…)

The teacher was basically like “I don’t want to get into a big discussion about it now, but I’m struggling because apparently the comment was deleted and I never saw it, so I’m having trouble knowing exactly how to handle it - I think we will have a larger discussion next week, but I didn’t want to not comment on it at all today and seem like I’m sweeping it under the rug.”

To her credit, comment leaver was like “oh I think it was me” and then read what she had written. It was…not great (but one of those classic older liberal white person things where it wasn’t overtly offensive either). She basically said “who is your intended audience? There’s a lot of anger here, and it’s justified, but you should think about who you want to read this and how you want them to feel, because anger can turn a reader off” 😬😬😬 maaaaybe could have been an okay comment, if the piece wasn’t so obviously memoir, by someone who is obviously still very much processing their PTSD, and who has also made it very clear that feeling silenced or judged or questioned by white people is one of the most upsetting things for her.

The teacher was like “okay I think I understand, I’m sure you didn’t mean to hurt her but I can see why she was upset, let’s you and me discuss separately later” (but with a lot more awkward dithering mixed in).

Then comment leaving lady emailed the next day to be like “I was up all night thinking of this, I’m so sorry for any hurt that I caused, and I will continue to come to class but I’m no longer comfortable giving anyone any kind of feedback. [more yammering…] enough said. Let’s end on a positive note - here is a picture of my family. [goes on to say that two different family members of hers are POC, where they’re from, etc]. I love them and I’m proud they’re part of my family.”

So yeah, peak white lady tears + implied “can’t be racist bc brown family” cringe…but also ugggh signature lady sucks and has honestly made me dread going to class…but obviously those are two separate issues and I need to very clearly draw that line in my brain…either way, CANT WAIT for whatever awkward discussion we’re all going to have this coming week!

The only problem with batcow, is pinterest doesn't have many pictures of cows that look like they could be pets because there are rarely people with them so thats why batcow hasn't shown up. Since I have more time to plan this one, I'll look for more options and see if I can find any.

No, simply because I'm not comfortable writing it as the main relationship/character. I've tried before and I didn't like it in the least and scrapped a week work. So If I tried I doubt I would finish it, if I did, it wouldn't be good because I would probably just give up part way through. So I can definitely do ships and all that that aren't the main but for some reason every time I've tried to do it as a main relationship, I hate it. Sorry!

I'm actually planning for more poc to happen in the current one. I noticed lack of poc not long ago and confused myself as to why so there will definitely be more representation.

As for lgbtq, I'll try. I was planning on trying to have at least one ship or something because I haven't. But as long as its not the main relationship I can do it so that I'll at least post it.

Hey!! I'm a hot mess right now who cant enjoy art anymore so if you could help me solve this out I would appreciate but i understand if you can't so here's the deal: Is being rich while people are starving unethical? And if so how can I enjoy my favorite artists, rich people, knowing this? I mean it's obvious you want you and your loved ones to live comfortably but there's a point where is just too much, right? And all these big artists that I love they are way above the threshold of too much.

This is probably my favorite ask I’ve ever gotten only because I wasn’t really expecting anyone to ask me about this particular political and philosophical question, and I, an anarcho-socialist English major, have some thoughts on the subject, to say the least. Let me preface this by saying there’s no right answer to this question, as much as I wish there was one, and I can only give my opinion and how I’ve chosen to go about my life. That said the majority of people on this site are still pretty young. I’d encourage you to take my opinion with a grain of salt and ask other people you trust and read more theory so you can form what you think is the right way of going about consuming art for yourself! Regardless, I’m really proud of you for asking this and interrogating these sorts of topics within yourself, it can be hard to maintain the balance of keeping hope while attempting to live ethically within capitalist society, but the fact that you are trying is commendable, and it’s my hope that more people asking questions like this will bring about the change we wish to see in the world c:

For starters, yes, I do believe being rich is unethical. While there is a multitude of reasons for this being the case, the one you brought up (hunger) is more than enough reason on its own. Now, no one rich person could end hunger, or at least not permanently. Estimates on how much it would cost to end world hunger range from 7 billion to 265 billion USD annually according to the IFPRI, which sounds wild right off the bat, since those are two unfathomably different numbers, but basically the difference boils down to the 7 billion dollar approach aiming to reduce malnutrition to World Health Assembly goals in about 15 years, and the 265 billion plan aiming to actually end world hunger (reach a “zero hunger target”) within about 20 years by targeting the sources of hunger, mainly being poverty and agricultural infrastructure.

So when you hear people say things like “why doesn’t Bezos end world hunger” one short answer is that he can’t. But the fact that he can’t doesn’t really matter because what really matters is he’s not trying. Without getting into liquidizing stocks and all that nonsense, if the ten richest people in the world made a one-time donation of 60 billion each, we would have enough and then some for the first two years of that zero hunger target plan by that alone. And the “poorest” of those ten billionaires would still have a net worth of 15 billion, which is still an unfathomable amount of money.

I say all of this to point out why it still matters to say the rich aren’t doing enough to end world hunger, and not to say that this is my ideal plan for solving it (which involves a lot more social restructuring and abolishing the value-form). I think if someone wakes up with billions in assets it a capitalist society in which the median “living wage” (which includes covering basic expenses, building savings, and having “fun money”) in my country is roughly $67,700, they must have woken up on one of those days and thought “oh hey what if I ended hunger in my home town” or “oh hey what if I funded a food co-op in a food desert nearby” or maybe even “what if I fucked around and tried to end world hunger” and then they didn’t. They turned around and went back to sleep, or went to a business meeting where they continued to exploit their workers or did whatever it is they do that I will never understand. And I think that is unethical.

Here’s the thing, and I’m sure some people will disagree with me on this one (I’m more than happy to read anyone’s replies and take them into account going forward) there’s a difference between corporate wealth and celebrity wealth. Do I fucking hate looking at pictures of Drake’s mansion? Yes, completely. Do I think that, like Mark Zuckerberg, he should be tried for crimes not limited to aiding and abetting ethnic violence in Ethiopia and failing to remove a militia event in Kenosha in which people planned to kill BLM protesters and then did, proceeding to lie about it in order to continue to profit off of the traffic and internet buzz white supremacists provide his site with? No, because Drake is not Mark Zuckerberg and there is a difference between what crimes it takes to make and uphold a 170 million dollar net worth versus a 98 billion dollar one. While I’m not jazzed to say the least about millionaire celebrities lounging in their wealth, in a way they are a very successful worker being rewarded by a capitalist society in exchange for a service they provide. So yeah, I feel more comfortable cheering on John Boyega for succeeding in a system set against him than I do any corporate capitalist.

That said, there are ways to support the art you love and strive to consume art more ethically. Support local artists, black artists and other creators of color, artists who support sustainable printmaking or give part of their proceeds to charities you care about. In terms of music, for every band you like that has problematic views there are thirty small bands with similar sounds you can support if you go looking. If you find a band you think is doing great work, support them on Bandcamp or buy a CD, and if you really want to listen to Kanye’s Power because its just that kind of day, listen to him on Spotify, where they’re literally paying people jack shit for it. If you’re going to participate in a capitalist society (and if you’re not, let me know how since I haven't figured that one out yet haha), reward the people you feel good about supporting.

Speaking of which! One of my favorite rappers noname has an online bookclub that uplifts POC voices by featuring two books a month. It’s awesome, noname is awesome, and I feel good whenever I listen to their album for the thirtieth time because telefone is the best. There’s art out there for you to feel good about loving. Sometimes it just takes a little digging to find.

I think my last note is going to be this: art is human. Art isn’t capitalist. People have been making art before capitalism and they’ll be making art after, art is an expression of the pain and hope and past and future of us, and we need it. To try and cut yourself off from consuming art to distance yourself from capitalism won’t work, because we need art to be human, and it was never capitalist in the first place. You aren’t evil or unethical for wanting to consume art, that’s the most natural urge in the world. It is a sign that our system is unethical if it makes us feel guilty for the things that make us human. So consume art, love it, love the people who make it, because its the good stuff. It’s the stuff that makes the rest of this more hopeful and more worth it. I know this can all feel like so much sometimes. But you’re not alone. There so many people out there working to make the world better and brighter, and making art to get us through it. I love you, and I hoped this helped even a little bit and I’m sorry its so long haha. I hope today is a little better for you than yesterday, and tomorrow’s even better than today c:

I've been looking at the BLM tag for the past few days. I've been talking with my roommates and my boyfriend about everything that's happened. We plan on going to a protest this weekend, we're in the South. I'm scared, because one of my roommates is POC and I'm trans. I was wondering, then, if you had tips for us? My roommate has asthma, though it hasn't affected them since childhood and I bind, so a main concern is if we get hit with tear gas and struggle to breathe.

OOC: I know you probably wanted Seth or someone to answer, but I’m answering this ooc because I think it’s important. Your roommate that has asthma, I think should just consider the state of their lungs and should go to planned, organized event, and get out early. I’m in New York and I’ve been to every protest in my area dealing with BLM in the past 5 years (most in Baltimore). But I think I can speak for many downstate New Yorkers (I’m on Long Island), that most of us know someone that has had Covid. And most of us know someone who’s died. It’s no joke. Its absolutely fucking horrific and if I didn’t have asthma, putting me at a higher risk, and if the family I live with were not over the age of 65, then I would be out there, in NYC too. But my asthma is also pretty bad, so if they haven't had problems since childhood, their lungs are probably strong.

Now about you and binding, if you struggle to breathe, then realize that running will be a struggle as well. And running is your main asset when the protests turn. And since you are trans, know that the police may treat you differently. I’m not trying to be all doom and gloom, but this is serious and I think you all have to look at the cons as well as the immense pros in this. This has to do with your safety though.

With all of that being said, I think going to an organized protest would be fucking amazing. Yesterday especially there were dozens of beautiful protests around the country. Most start at 11-1 o'clock and can be found on facebook. Go if you feel you are safe from the virus or can safely distance! (which i stand by is very very important to consider. But I am also a New Yorker at risk, so I have a different perspective.)

Some tips are to keep your eyes and ears open. It only takes one instigator - may that be the police (in MANY MANY CASES) or others, always keep an eye and an ear out for people looking to turn the crowd. That is very VERY important.

In 2015, I went to an organized protest near City Hall in Baltimore, Maryland. it was only a small group of us. Like VERY small. And after facing off with mustache asshole from Fox news, we all headed towards the inner harbor to meet with other groups of protestors from other schools. When we all met up, a woman came running and saying, ‘don’t go near the jail. it’s a trap and they’re going to arrest all of you’. This was after the national guard was already in the city, and we already had the unrest the previous Saturday in the inner harbor. The first ‘riot’ in Baltimore. I turned to my friends and we had to ask ourselves if we wanted to get arrested. We were in sophomores in college and that would affect our scholarships. We decided we couldn’t take the risk and walked all the way back to our dorms.

The moment I got into my room, I heard shouting from outside. I raced to my window and the crowd grew by the THOUSANDS. My window faced North Ave, the notorious street in Baltimore. I threw on my shoes and I grabbed my phone and I ran back out there. Split decision. I didn’t have any friends with me, no buddies. And I (perhaps stupidly), threw myself into the fray. It was the most fucking amazing experience of my life. And it was the biggest protest in Baltimore at that time. I didn’t have to know anyone, because we were all screaming for one cause. It wasn’t until we walked around the entire city, through Sandtown where Freddie was killed, that we reached the inner harbor and I found my friends. But it was 8:30 by then and approaching curfew, which was 9 o'clock. We raced to get home before that struck because the police had been getting violent in previous days. That’s where this picture was taken from.

NOW WHAT FUCKIN RELEVANCE DOES THIS FUCKIN HAVE.

I heard that the tides were going to change. That the police may get violent and this was after already experiencing the police yelling shit at us, flipping us off in previous college organized protests, and watching them beat the people every fucking night. You HAVE to be conscious of those around you. If you hear that people have started to throw shit, unless you’re about that life and want to take the risk, LEAVE. And as non-black people, DO NOT BE AGGRESSIVE IN THE UNREST. The best thing you can do is create a barrier around the black protesters. The best thing you can do is try to help those around you. But don’t be one of those fuckin idiots that are spray painting on buildings, throwing shit, setting shit on fire, because it reflects badly on us. We will be blamed for it. Not saying I think you would do that, but keep that in mind.

Here are some quick tips summarized:

Watch out for unrest. The people start getting violent? leave. You cant continue the fight if you get hurt.

the POLICE START GETTING VIOLENT?! Get. the fuck. Out of there. And help anyone you see that needs it.

Keep your eyes out for a med booth or those supplying first aid. I’ve heard they are spread all throughout the protests, ready to aid.

Bring your inhaler

Write the number of your friends on your body. This day and age people don’t know each others numbers. It’s very easy to lose your phone when shit pops off. And if you get separated, you’ll be happy that you have it written somewhere. Just make sure its non-visible. Some people ended up getting doxxed during the last uprising.

Write the number of a friend that is not there, someone you trust, as well, in the same manner. If someone is handing out the number of someone representing legal counsel, take it.

Bring water with you. That is vital. And snacks. Keep your energy up in the sun.

I saw many things saying unlock your phone so people can get to your information. Do not unlock your phone. If it gets stolen then you’re fucked and if it gets in the hands of the police, you don’t want them searching through your shit. On your lock screen put all necessary information. Your picture, name, age, phone number, and the phone number of the person you trust.

Bring a black sharpie. You need to write shit down like the name of someone getting arrested? you’ll be happy for it.

stay together. try your best to not get separated. One goes, you all go. You do not want to lose someone in the fray.

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A MASK OR SOME SORT OF FACE COVERING. FABRIC, MEDICAL, WHATEVER. NOT ONLY DO YOU WANT SOMETHING TO PROTECT YOU, BUT SOMETHING TO PROTECT YOU FROM FACIAL RECOGNITION.

tie back your hair if you have long hair.

wear baggy black clothing. you want to be as non-descript as possible. you do not want the police to be able to easily profile you.

stay far away from the fuckin cops. we saw in ft Lauderdale yesterday that it takes ONE COP to start it all.

If you have medical supplies? bring them.

If you see opposing parties trying to start shit like the trump supporters and white supremacists infiltrating the crowd? RAISE THE ALARM. TELL. OTHERS.

POLICE ARE INFILTRATING THE CROWDS AS WELL. I’ve heard that they're changing armband color every day. So if you see an armband, tell the people around you. It’s usually on the upper bicep and keep your eyes open for anyone else like that. This is important.

"Mmm" he moaned against her skin as his hands pulled her body towards his. She was standing in the mirror as his nose rubbed softly against her neck as she leaned over a bit, laughing.

"Loki, can't I undress in peace." She asked with a smirk, feeling his hand reach for her corset ready to untie it.

"Not if you want a good fuck." He mutters, untying the little ribbons and Siygn giggled as she turned to face him, his eyes opening as he cocked his head to the side. "I was in the middle-"

"We have to talk, beloved." She spoke stroking his cheek as Loki laid his head in her hand, giving her palm a little kiss.

"Later, I really want to just admire your body." He tells her as she leaned her head back and laughed, his lips going instantly to it, kissing it lightly as Siygn leaned against it.

"Loki stop..." She laughed as he sat her body on the vanity. He let out a sigh and placed his forehead against hers, as her legs stayed wrapped around his torso. "it's serious."

His face changed a bit as he scratched his brows together and looked at the concern on her face. "What troubles you?"

"Well for starters," she began, brushing back some of his locks of hair from his face. "I think it's time we...I don't know I just..." Siygn had been practicing in the mirror about how this conversation would go.

"Has someone hurt you?" He jumped then began to study her face. "Called you out of your name? Tell me at once!" He began to ramble "I'll have them flogged."

"No, nothing of that matter." She giggles then stands up and walks down the side. Her nerves getting the best of her as she went to the balcony and looked around.

"Siygn? What's the matter?" Asks Loki leaning on the doorframe with his arms folded. His eyebrows a little narrowed as she hugged her arms and rubbed them for comfort.

"I just think we should start a family soon."

And it was silent. She mustered enough courage to spit it out and she turned to face him as he nodded his head.

"I see."

"I think it's about time we do. We've been married for almost two years. I've seen children running around the court in front of the palace and I cant help but imagine our child doing the same." She sort of ranted. "Frigga and Odin would get the chance to be grandparents and it would be the first grandchild of this generation." but he remained silent still. "Well..."

"Is that what you desire?" He asked

She folded her arms and scoffed. "I'm your wife Loki, you can tell me what you think" but he uttered not a single word. Had she wrangled him speechless? "You know what, forget it. I don't know why I said anything." Sigyn shrugged pushing past him and heading to their bathroom to draw herself a bath.

Loki was in deep thought about the conversation. It wasn't his intention to be rude and ignore her, it had just surprised him a bit. Mostly fear.

It was bad enough once a year for seven days his sex drive was entirely in overdrive as mating season for the frost giants occurred. Of course his wife knew about it and they happily spent seven days in each others arms, tangled in each others bodies making the room smell of sweat, love and sweet sex. They had acknowledged that and planned on going somewhere more private this year. He didn't like the idea of his animal side coming out he was a being of Asgard, a God. He wanted to suppress that side of him for as long as possible.

Because Loki was a frost giant, to some degree, his fear of hurting Sigyn by giving her a child, an heir, made his insides twist. Of course he never admitted that fear out loud.

Sigyn had taken a little nap in her hot bath full of oils. The Odin's sleep was near and preparing for it with Frigga had tired her out. Most days she’s crawl into bed later than usual and cuddle close with Loki, but days just like this, less busy, sign would catch a nap in between her breaks. He walked into the bathroom a couple minutes later, seeing her arms outside the tub with her head tilted back. She had her eyes closed and he stood in the door frame. Feeling Loki’s presence, his gaze she sighed out loud and shifted position as her hair dripped onto her face.

“Why don’t you come bathe with me, beloved.” she asked and Loki let out a little chuckle as her eyes fluttered open. Her hands caressed her chest traveling down to her breasts.

“I’d much rather watch..” he led on with a chuckle as she giggled and sat up, grabbing the sponge. “Frigga and I watched your brother fight against some men in the square. Knowing they don’t stand a chance,” she scoffs rolling her eyes “he continued to take whatever honor they had left.”

“I do apologize.” he laughed walking over to her, taking the sponge form her hands and squeezing out the excess water. “He can be rather arrogant. More now than ever since father gave him mjolnir.” Replied Loki as he gave a her sideways look, her eyes flashing softly with a gentle grin across her lips.

“Someone should teach him a lesson. Making those men look foolish is beneath him.” Sigyn shook her head and Loki bit his lip, looking up into the air pretending to think.

“Perhaps a nice spanking is in order.” He chuckled as she took the sponge back and grinned widely as he ushered her forward. “Come, I’ll need someone to practice.” he joked as they broke into a fit of laughter.

Lips inches away from one another they shared a small kiss as Loki knelt down at the edge of the tub, hovering his frame over body. Kissing her brown lips again, he traced her face with his index finger. She leaned into his touch and Loki felt his eyes water.

“What saddens you, my beloved?” she asks tilting her head to the side.

“Sigyn, my star, I plan to spend the rest of my life with you. I promised the day we wed I’d be your truth. I promised to be truthful, honest and faithful, and yet in your presence I continue to lie-”

“Whats going on?” she sort of laughs giving him a sideways look. “If this is about earlier, I said forget-”

“No.” He shakes his head and then takes a deep breath as she sits back down in her bath. His hands laced together as he tried to gather his thoughts. Concerned for her husband, Sigyn reached for his arm hoping to provide some kind comfort. “I want to have children with you.”

Her heart sort of fluttered and she gave him a big smile and began to feel such excitement. “Then lets start now!” she said to him, getting out of the tub and grabbing her towel. “I’ll light some candles and start a nice fire-” she paused seeing he was still sitting on the edge of the tub. “Well..”

He stood up and walked over to her. Her body still throbbing at the idea, but Loki still made no effort to make a move. “I want to have children with you Sigyn, but it’s because of what I am I will never in my life damn you to that kind of pain.”

TW for American Hopelessness

Look so. Having anxiety and also being extremely aware of the current political landscape we live in and being keen enough to see the effects of the rhetoric thats being spewed at the top popping up in everyday life is a very strange experience. Lets say one works in retail. There's this very strange doublethink, this personhood one wears in public. Do you break your slightly distant and polite demeanor towards this customer because they just used language you know to be associated with white nationalists? How will you explain that to HR? Most people only recognize hate speech when its a known slur. How can you describe in a report that it was the slight turn of an eye and the tweak of a head that you just know. You cant so you dont. You smile less brightly and focus on the next customer. This one gets a military discount and shows you the chemical burns on his legs from agent orange. He takes his change and whispers sinisterly "it was supposed to be for Them." No time to respond, a blonde lady bustles up to tell you that she isnt going to spend a single cent here bc the prices are so inflated and that you should really let management know that their high prices are going to kill business because no one can afford it. You smile an say of course you will speak to management for her. You know you wont. You know that the prices are high because of greed and because there was a huge crop failing due to the unstable weather conditions caused by global warming which was caused by greed. Your break comes. You go to the back, soaked in sweat. Its 97 degrees, the break room smells like spoiled milk and its 2 dollars for a lukewarm bottle of water. You text your friend who tells you she has been sleeping at work due to how long her shifts have gotten. Coworkers in the break room complain about how there is only one associate per department and how that is not nearly enough people scheduled to cover a store that has 3000 customers a day. You know its a practice called lean staffing. You know your manager doesnt know what that is. You go back out to the floor. You stop to talk to a coworker and carefully omit the fact you have a girlfriend from the conversation. They brag about their husband. You smile politely and move on. You assist a man in finding a pressure washer. He asks you your age with a lustful little gleam. Hell show up during your shift three more times and impressively call you cute. Someone you work with is yelling at one of your black coworkers. Shes arguing with him about trump. Hes carefully nonthreatening, simply saying that he thinks trump acts like a con man and his voice is friendly and relaxed although his teeth seem clenched. The woman he argues with is all aggression, hands on hips and hair on end. A customer glares at your black coworker, a trump 2020 hat on their head. You get in their face and ask if they need help finding anything. The janitor pulls the weeds growing in the cracks of the broken asphalt of the parking lot. All the roads have broken asphalt. Why is the janitor pulling the weeds? Pretty soon your shift is over. You go home. You sleep on a couch because you cant afford a bed. Your medical bills are 5,000 dollars. You read about a celebrity buying their third house. You scroll on social media and end up staring at a picture of a baby that died in ICE custody. You wish you were part of some kind of movement. You want to tear down the walls of your country until it becomes a kind and just place. When you and your other queer poc friends who share something of your experience attempt to talk about this experience, their is a joke to be careful what is said because the government is watching. We all know the joke is also a warning and a way to cope with it. Somehow everything seems normal and you wonder if your the only one aware of the dystopia. Your anxiety is crippling. You wake up everyday and do it all over again.

Hey! So I've been in Japan for our class trip for a month and I just got back. So what's happening on Big Brother? Who do we hate? Who do we love? Anyone problematic?

oh babe... issa mess. so if you’ve been gone a month i’m guessing you haven’t even seen the cast list? here’s a post with their pictures, names, and ages.

Sadly, this season is matching bb15 with racism. The worst are Jack and Jackson. Holly and Cliff have made comments too. Analyse hasn’t said anything directly that I know of but she’s laughed at the comments and been a bystander.

So night 1 there was a twist where the house voted for a camp director. Jackson (square jaw) won. He then had to pick 4 people to “banish” and these people had to compete in a comp to stay in the house. The loser was banished from the game. He picked Cliff, David, Jess (these 3 also volunteered to be camp director but lost) and Kemi. Fans already thought it was sketchy that he picked 3 poc + 1 old dude. David lost and was evicted night 1.

Christie won HOH. Jack/Jackson wanted her to backdoor Kemi so badly despite Kemi doing nothing wrong. She made a comment about their chicken being unseasoned and that’s apparently when it started. They ended up targeting Ovi, another poc. All week they talked mad shit about Ovi and Kemi. There were so many comments I cant even remember. One that stands out was Jack talking about “mud stomping a hole though kemi’s chest.” Production ended up talking to him about this and his reaction was “no big deal, feeders are taking it out of context, I gotta watch what I say when feeds are on”

After Ovi was evicted unanimously, Julie announced a “Camp Comback” twist. This means the evictees will be living inside the house and still socializing with hg. However, they are out of the game for now. They can’t participate in comps or ceremonies. They have their own have-not style room upstairs. After 4 people have been evicted, 1 of them will come back in and the other 3 will be evicted for good. We don’t know how the 1 person will be decided.

So David was let back in the house and that’s when the racism got terrible. He hadn’t even been in the house for 2 hours when they started calling him “terrifying” and “cancer of the house” here’s another post with more of the comments + who said them but tbh it needs to be updated bc we’re on Day 3 of David being back and there’s so many more.

Okay onto more game stuff:

now Jack is HOH (rip). He nominated Kemi and Jess.

As for tag favorites, people really like Kemi, Jess, Nicole. People are starting to stan Kat because she has separated herself from Jackson/Holly/crew. I love Ovi’s personality + was my fave preseason but he has a terrible read on the house tbh and is easily manipulated by the jacks. David has a super good read on the house already so people want him back.

Jack/Jackson/Holly are def the most hated on every social media platform. This is the one season that twitter, tumblr, reddit, and even facebook agree.

Showmances are also messy this season. There aren’t any official ones but everyone flirts with everyone. Jackson and Kat slept together 3 times pre-feeds. She thought they were a showmance, he treats her like shit. He “ broke up with” her yesterday so now that’s off. He wants to get with Holly instead. Jack/Analyse are kinda a thing. She said he’s hot but he’s boring, she likes Nick’s personality but Nick isn’t hot enough for her (her words). Nick was obsessed with her but went with Bella.

Tommy/Christie knew each other before. Christie dated Tommy’s aunt for 7 years. Casting somehow didn’t know but played it off like they did. Holly/Kat kinda knew each other before too but weren’t close like T/C.

I think that’s mostly all of the important stuff. Sorry it’s so long ajgdaadjk.

people really took unique, interesting and loveable black (*afro-latino in miles’ case smooch) characters and turned them into meme loving, bland accesories for white characters, huh. ofc im talking abt miles morales and shuri

other people will word this much more eloquently than i will but im. pressed and need to complain. its like people see these characters, like them at a base level but their blackness scares them. for them to truly like shuri, they exaggerate her laughing at an outdated meme and made her mcu peters best friend or bucky‘s mammy, totally ignoring that she’s a genius, and like. black. she doesn’t care about white people as shown multiple in BP but since people Don‘t Like When Things Aren’t About Them, they completely forgoe that character trait and just give her random characteristics that aren’t even hers, or they completely ignore her lol.

with miles its different, because so many people claim to love their „uwu precious boy“ but if u ask them about the things they love about him, it’s gonna be very generic and probably centered around a white character. fandom has completely erased his parents, one of miles’ (and itsv as a movie tee bee atch) core strengths, and replaced them with Peter B. Parker, even though he exists solely as a mentor-weird-uncle-brother character in canon. theres little to no headcanons about miles and his parents or his uncle, or their dynamics pre-miles, or once miles is demasked etc, but i see thousands of pictures of liv (in fact before i saw the movie i saw more fanart of liv than i did of miles lmaoo) or long metas and fics about spider-ham and noirs intense love, or angsty comics about gwen‘s peter, but barely any actual content about miles.

and i already know tons of people are readying up their keyboard to say „but OP i LOVE miles and create/consume a bunch of his content daily :)“ and like whaddya want to bet that most of that content is either generic „miles is a meme loving innocent baby boy who likes homestuck and listens to kpop and he‘s so BABEY and he’s an innocent uwu cinnamonroll who could never hurt a fly“ or..

„miles is so done with everyones whacky antics and hes constantly spouting badly written aave and he never speaks spanish, he‘s overly violent and he steals his art supplies, everyone counts on him to deal with their problems and he never asks for anything in return because he’s always okay!“

and a lot of people try to make up for these bland portrayals by projecting hard on him by making him gbt or mentally ill, but they completely ignore that if they’re not black, they will never understand how it feels to be black and lgbt or black and mentally ill- and i see a bunch of people say that race and sexuality, gender etc have no overlap, and that‘s such an ignorant statement.

if ur white, you are seen as the default- so even if u are a minority in any other way, you are still white, therefore there is no other identity that you have to deal with alongside being nt, lgbt, disabled, etc- when ur a POC, specifically black, we dont get that privilege. being black and gay is a totally different expierence than being white and gay, but no one seems to get that.

I have something I need to share. Not with you, with someone else but that'll never happen, its simply not possible, but I need this off my chest and dont have a safe place for it. With your stance on abortion, I figured you would be a good place, sense you wont see the fetus in this story as a "clump of cells" Growing up, my dad was not okay. He was abusive. It took me years and years to say this because through all the running away and calling the police, not going home- I was told over and over that it was fine because he wasnt raping me or punching me in the face. The pushing, screaming inches from my face, tearing apart my stuff, throwing things at me, making me change in front of him, refusing to be by me in public if I didnt look good enough...didnt matter. I was told I was being ridiculous and should be greatful. My friends.. I would beg them please dont leave me alone with him if he ask you to leave the room. But they always would what were they suppose to do? I wouldnt be allowed to talk to anyone to go out for months at a time. So there was a huge foundation of fear, and protecting myself. At some point, i met this guy (brother of my friend), and I just loved him, and he loved me to. He was a POC, once we started with each other his sister hated me for some reason, which made his mom hate me. And my parents hated him (I later figured this was a race and class thing for my father) so being together involved a lot of sneaking around, a lot of giving up, a lot of trying again, the sneaking around would get me in more trouble, especially if it was known it was with him. At this point, I didnt tell anyone how bad it was, I started self mutation. If I wasnt with him (we will call him Kay for the sake of thevstory) I would do any drug I could get and have sex or mess with whoever showed interest (well almost). It was how I would cope as I didnt think I could tell anyone. How could I say anything about what I was going through when I had a friend being raped by her brother, a friend who's dad just up and left, a friend whos mom called her fat and made her diet? I was literally a wreck and the worst part of the cycle was being this wreck made him more angry, he'd treat me worse, and I'd further wreck myself. So about Kay, we went on and off for years, then he moved in with a friend who was only a street away, I wasnt at a 8-3 school anymore and he graduated do it was really easy to be together. I immediately broke up with this other guy I was seeing (we will call him Colin) that my dad liked so I would use him to be able to leave the house ect so I could be with Kay. It was only a month and a half of perfection before it started falling apart. Kay wanted to talk to my father, he didnt know what things were like except that he didnt like him. He thought he could talk to him about how much he loved me and make things better, and I freaked out. He knew I was hurting myself, a few months before my father** had saw the marks and yelled at me asking if I was crazy, asking what the hell was wrong with me, telling me it was disgusting and I stayed in a padded room for a night before being released sense I wasnt suicidal, and Kay saw on my body that I had found a new more hidden place after that incident. He thought he could save me, and we would get married and be happy, but I knew if he went to talk to my father that my father would send him off and I would pay for trying such a thing. * That's when I made multiple huge mistakes that I havent shared with people, 9 years later. First, i broke up with him and told him i didnt even like him and needed time to discover myself,stuff like that. I never stopped loving him. To this day, I'm sure I'd still fall apart at his touch. *Within that same week, I missed my period, I again wasnt able to leave the house, I bought a tested while at the store with my mom, was caught and ordered to take it as soon as we were back. This was bad because if it was negative, I was going to be in trouble for basically no reason. And again this "trouble" wasnt normal. It meant my things wouldbe torn apart. I would be held down and screamed at, spit on not allowed to talk. But it wasnt negative, it was positive. And my mom was waiting downstairs, and I knew this only had a small handful of outcomes. Either they would send me off and have me give the baby up for adoption while being under close watch the whole time, or they would make me get rid of the baby. Abortion. So I did the first thing that came to mind, I called Colin. I told him I was pregnant and it was his. And that I couldnt talk right now. Then I told my mom, and immediately told her that Colin knew. To me, this was security. If he knew, someone would be checking in on me, he would tell his parents, another adult would he involved, if I disappeared there would be questions. And I knew I was right because I told my mom he knew and immediately she was upset I did that. I went in for an ultrasound, found out how far I was, quickly gave Colin a photo and shut the door on him. And the problems started. The dates dont match up, Colin said. I told him hes wrong. His parents wanted a paternity test, I said that's not possible itll hurt the baby. They claimed it wouldnt. I convinced Colin it was his and I just knew. He knew i had been seeing Kay but took my word.Then i heard from Kay, he heard I was pregnant. If he even thought it was his he would be at my door, trying to figure things out, trying to talk to my parents. But my father would not respect him the way he would Colin, so if anyone knew it was Kay's, I would be hurt, punished, sent away. I was terrified, I cant even explain the level of panic I had for my safety. I told Kay it wasnt his, there was no single way, and to leave me alone forever. It hurt so much to tell him that, it felt so wrong and I hated it and I knew it hurt him and I was so broken over it. After that, i was still stuck. The dates didnt match, Colin's parents wanted a paternity test, *the baby was partly a POC and might not come out white, so I wouldnt be able to pass them off as Colin's. I couldnt sleep. My father wasmt speaking to me and wasnt even around, really. I stayed in my room. My parents were pushing for me to get an abortion. "Were just going to the clinic so you can see what its like" my mom said when she took me to the abortion clinic. It was down a stair case, there were no protesters. They took my blood, they walked me through everything and asked when they could set up an appointment. They asked me one time if I wanted to do this, in front of my mom who stared me down. When she brought me back, she paid extra for them to put me to sleep. While I waited with the IV and the last ultra sound pictures I'd have done, I started crying. My mom wasnt there for this part, a nurse asked me why I was crying, she was so angry about it. I said sorry and tried to stop. She didnt ask if i wanted to do this, no one told me that i was at the point where the baby was like a small miniature looking baby, only slightly misshapen. No one told me it had tiny hands and feet, or what they would do with it afterward. And no one made sure i wanted this. When I went in the room I was alone with a Male doctor, and I remember how unusual that was as I had always been asked if I wanted someone else in the room if left with a Male doctor. And I laid on the doctor bed, and I remember think I should say something, this is my last chance, and then I was asleep. When I woke up I was given pads, they told my mom, not me, even though I was 17, that I would bleed for a few days. I never went to the check up appointment. I stayed in my room, I scanned every blood clot for a piece of the baby. I slept and cried, when I heard from Colin I told him that I lost the baby. That's all. I lost the baby. People spread rumors it wasnt ever real. I didn't care. I didnt leave my room. I didnt shower, I barely ate. I gave up Kay, and all my friends connected to him, Colin started dating my bestfriend and they talked shit about me, I lost everyone connected to them. I was just alone. My father came back and was around more. They never talked to me about it, never asked if I was okay. I was like that for months, before finding friends online, forcing myself to listen to happy music, go out, pretending. Fake it till you make it. I met two people, we will call Slw and Ice- who helped me in that time more than they will ever know because they didnt know about it. Slw once asked why we didnt hang out with my friends and I got really upset with him but they both helped me so much. Ice reminded me it was okay to hurt and not be okay, he just didnt know what about. I made more friends, I am so greatful for every single one because they are the only reason I dudnt take my own life in those following years. Things got bad again. I got bad. I am better now, I have kids. People say I am a good mom. But ever sense "getting better" I think about that baby everyday. I worry life will take one of my babies that are here because I let that one die. How can I be a good mom when I let that happen? And I dont deserve them. And I am so sorry to that child. I could have found another way. I could have spoke more. That childs dad would have loved them and had no choice. I hate myself for this, every day. And again, have no where to go to talk about it. Like I said I just needed to get it off my chest because it eats me alive, everyday. Regardless of if people think abortion is right or wrong. To me, I know I got rid of a baby with a future, and its minimalized.

ROAD TO THE OSCAR MAYER WIENER AWARDS 2K19

ok y’all lets get this party started with a movie i didnt get to catch in theaters (i think i ended up renting it) but people were absolutely raving about it all of last year, and for good reason i gotta say! it was one of the better marvel films that came out last year (though in my humble opinion Infinity War takes the gold)

speaking of marvel lets talk about it for a spell! lets have a lil sit-down chit-chat shall we!! cause its kind of insane how much of an american media phenomenon marvel has become, they are arguably single-handedly responsible for reviving the superhero movie subgenre and now these types of movies bring hollywood more dineros than they probably know what to do with (besides make more superhero movies). what used to be a niche market where only your most hardcore of nerdy types dared to dwell has been embraced into the mainstream wholeheartedly, and now its hard to imagine the american film industry without them.

from a film critique standpoint, marvel movies seem to be a hit-or-miss as far as quality, however i cant really think of a particular marvel movie that i thought was a total piece of hot garbage (the first two Thor movies come close but they were more boring than anything else). however last year was a real success for the studio, they just kept pumping out quality movies left and right and once disney managed to get its grubby lil mouse paws on Spider-man it was a done deal baby. DC and other companies have tried again and again to recreate the success that Marvel has managed and so far they’ve failed to various degrees. Marvel’s just got that special something with their cinematic universe, some magical combo of great actors and creative directors and an ever-expanding budget that keeps them staying at the top every time.

so whats my stance on superhero movies??? well theyre not my usual cup of tea but i gotta say they’re real damn entertaining. i kinda view them like a high-speed ride at an amusement park, super fun and thrilling and exhilarating and just a real good time! but thats about as far as it goes for me, and im sure thats the same for a lot of people. to be honest its kinda refreshing to have movies that quality-wise are up to my standards that i dont have to think too hard about. so for me the movies i typically go for are like museums, whereas superhero movies (and action movies in general) are like a carnival. both entertaining and fun, but the latter is just all about letting loose and not wondering about the why’s and how’s. when i think about it, this kinda mindset is for sure a factor in how these movies got so popular, because with the shitshow that is our current government and the potential imminent death of our planet people are once again looking for movies as a form of escapism, rather than a way to get deep and philosophical and ask the tough questions and see something profound.

with that being said, despite some exceptions that have proven me wrong to my utter joy and delight (im looking at u Logan), i expect movies that are nominated for wiener awards to be more like museums than like carnivals y’know what i mean? u catchin my drift??? u takin what im dishin out???? the academy awards have a long history of prestige, of nominating the best of the best of any given year. quite a few movies that won oscars are now considered to be timeless classics. which is why superhero movies, at least the typical marvel types that are chocked to the brim with CGI and epic massive fight scenes and explosions, dont really strike me as anything that could eventually become a timeless classic. the amount of computer-generated effects alone will make these movies feel really dated as soon as like five years from now with how fast technology is progressing. i just dont see it happening.

and that brings us to the first wiener award nominee ill be talking about, Black Panther. this isnt director Ryan Coogler’s first time at the rodeo; his first feature film Fruitvale Station received critical acclaim in 2013, and the spiritual Rocky sequel Creed actually got nominated for some oscars a few years ago. so we’ve got a promising and talented director at the helm which is a great start! we’ve also got a stellar cast with the likes of michael b. jordan (who has been in all of Coogler’s films so far), lupita nyong’o, angela bassett, and forest whitaker in the bunch. it also has the astronomical financial backing of Supreme Overlord Disney so u know this is gonna be some high-quality shit.

so i’m gonna tell y’all why i think this movie got nominated for so many oscars, because in a way i do think this movie is deserving of noms from the academy. theres no denying that it is very groundbreaking for a movie of this scale and magnitude to have a black director and a nearly all-black cast. in fact, i think a lot of the crew members (including set and costume design) were black as well. thats fuckin huge my guy. and this movie was by no means a flop either; it ended up being one of the highest-grossing films of 2018 and stayed in theaters for a loooong-ass time. and not only were the people on this project mostly black, the movie itself is a story praising and showing off the beauty of african culture without exotifying or demeaning it in any way. like i can say 100% without a doubt that this movie deserves its best costume design nom cause holy shit the outfits in this movie are stunning, just the perfect blend of ancient/current tribal african aesthetics and a more futuristic sleek style that any fashion enthusiast can drool over.

i cant say much about best musical score or best sound mixing or anything like that cause it all seemed like typical marvel stuff to me and wasnt all that memorable. however i can say that the production design on this movie, while it didnt impress me as much as costuming, did still impress me. the one thing i gotta knock it on is all the fucken CGI, like whole entire towns and landscapes were digitally rendered. i wouldve been a lot more impressed and would agree more to the production design nom if they used more practical effects and real sets/locations.

so. best picture. this is where i feel the most conflicted. cause this is where i now have to look past all the pretty fancy visuals and music and look at the actual meat of this movie, its story and characters. usually best picture noms also get noms for things like best actress, best script, and best director, cause those are all really important elements of a good film. ur movie can look and sound as pretty as it wants but if the storys shit and the characters are shit and the actings shit then u dont have much going for u.

and by no means am i saying that Black Panther was shitty in these aspects, it was just well. passable. it was ok. but nothing to write home about

we got some good performances from newcomers letitia wright and chadwick boseman, lupita kills it as always, but then everyone else was like. okay. michael b. jordan didnt really do his best in this and idk if its the script’s fault or something but it was weird. and speaking of the script it was uuuuhhhhh well. not great. every time i think about that “what are those” reference i die a little inside. and the story overall wasnt really anything new when u break it down, just another “son of king struggles to take his place” narrative. and that aspect of the story couldve actually been more developed into something interesting, i found myself really intrigued with the political scenes. but there just wasnt enough of that cause they needed to make more room for the PEW PEW POW EXPLOSIONS

granted, movies with lots of shimmer but little substance have been nominated for best picture before (just look at James Cameron’s Avatar which is apparently getting a sequel now????????). and its not even that this movie is completely devoid of substance cause theres some interesting things going on plot-wise, and some stand-out characters too (shuri is the boss and no one can tell me otherwise). its just, u know, a good superhero movie. nothing really profound about the story itself except for the cultural, historical, and social context behind it.

so lemme get back to why i think this movie got a best picture nom. i think the academy wants to keep up their appearance of being #woke now by continuing to nominate more than one poc-heavy project each year, but they seem to be caring less and less about the actual overall quality of these movies. and theres even some movies on the noms list that i think actually have what it takes to be a strong oscars contender, like If Beale Street Could Talk and BlacKkKlansmen. but i think in Black Panther’s case, they were under a lot of pressure to give it top noms (or any noms at all) because of the intensely positive response this movie got, as well as the accusations of racism to people who didnt think it was as great as fans were saying.

also i have no doubt that Supreme Overlord Disney like threw piles and piles of money at the academy like they tend to do (cause i’d bet good money thats the only fucken way Incredibles 2 got nominated for anything)

well anyway ive gone on long enough about this, lemme know what y’all think. really the only nom im iffy about when it comes to this movie is Best Picture, but the others i think are well enough deserved, especially costume design. so i guess the one thing i struggle with is this: does a movie becoming a pop culture phenomenon and being groundbreaking in its cast and crew count as enough for it to be nominated for the top prize of the wiener awards, despite any fallbacks in script, direction, and acting? idk man im just hoping it doesnt get the award by default or something but then again maybe after watching all the other nominees it may turn out that the rest of them were worse than Black Panther i guess i’ll have to find out

So I've decided to dread my hair again. (The pictures are from when I had them before) But first, I need to explain what the real issue with white people having dreads is. When confronted with this issue (when I had dreads the first time), I of course, like most white people, became frustrated and defensive. I felt that I was being policed and attacked for simply doing something with my own body. But over time I began to see what they were saying and I understood what was wrong with what I was saying and feeling. And not knowing where I stood, I decided to brush them out so that I could continue to debate and discuss this subject without seeming hypocritical. And after almost a year of discussing this subject on all kinds of platforms, I've come to the conclusion that the hair in and of itself isn't the problem so much as the way we think and act and ignore. In reality, when white people are confronted about the issue with dreads, no one is actually saying that white people "cant do something with there own body" though that's the most commonly assumed thing; That they're being told they can't have something which they feel entitled to having. But that's not the point whatsoever, nor is the point that white people just look bad with those hairstyles so we should just "not bother looking at them". The issue is that most white people will refuse to listen or acknowledge their racial privilege and will simply get super defensive and angry. They often have no understanding or desire to understand the issues that people of color (POC) face all the time for their hair and skin. The issues with systematic racism that affect POCs don't just disappear when we choose to ignore it. And it's a lot easier for white people to ignore it because they don't experience the negative consequences. White/privileged peoples naivety is only alluded to further when they're first assumption is that they're being told that they can't have something which they feel entitled to when really they're simply being asked to acknowledge their white privilege, acknowledge the issues that POCs deal with, acknowledge that throughout history they've always been looked down on for their hairstyles at the hands of white people but only once white people adopt it and think it's cool is it suddenly "interesting and quirky". Which is why you almost always only see white women with tattoos and dreads portrayed in the media as beautiful and alternative but not black women with dreads when black people obviously had dreads first in this country and are associated with them (bringing up other countries and cultures with dreads is irrelevant) and they were seen as dirty and unkept for it. White people never acknowledge these things let alone care to speak out about it or fight against their privilege because they never notice it themselves, they have the privilege of being blissfully unaware of it because it doesn't affect them and it actually benefits them so to some degree it makes sense that they don't get it or that they don't feel the inclination to fight against it. Why fight against something that benefits or caters to you? Even if it's at the expense of others? Maybe they don't want to acknowledge that it's at the expense of others because once they do they'll suddenly feel morally obligated to start caring and speak out against it. But as I said, I'm sure most of them don't feel the inclination to speak out against something that benefits them regardless of whether they're aware of it or not. In fact most of them aren't aware of their privilege which is why they don't feel they're being asked to fight against privilege but rather that they're being attacked or oppressed in some way or that the other person is being racist against white people which is why they tend to get very defensive and upset right off the bat. Bottom line is that white people need to acknowledge all of these things whether they have dreads or not and speak out about it and use their privilege to dismantle it instead of feeling entitled and getting defensive and angry when topics of white privilege and systematic racism are brought up simply because it makes them uncomfortable.
