Summary: You’re a brand new zookeeper at The Halfling Zoo- a place where half-animals live in captivity. Your job is simple- feed them and study them. Your main worry is that one of the more dangerous halflings might kill you.
Unfortunately, that may become the least of your worries.
WARNINGS: yandere themes
Note: All characters are aged up, since there will be mature themes in future parts.
Also, I can’t promise I’ll finish this. I suck at finishing stories.
NOTE 2: Sorry that it took over a month to write this, but I needed inspiration + my new job is kicking my butt. It’s pretty short and bad but I didn’t have a lot of inspiration.
—-------------------------------------------------------
You were on your way to the birds’ enclosure when you heard your name being called. You turned around to see Crowley making his way towards you, one arm raised to flag you down. You hurried over to him.
“Yes, Mr. Crowley?”
As you drew closer, you could see the concern on his face.
“I need you to come with me,” he said softly, leading the way to the aviary. You nodded and followed him, worry starting to consume you.
“Is everything okay?” you asked.
Mr. Crowley led you around to a side of the aviary you hadn’t been to before- a side that faced neither the employee entrance nor the zoo visitors. It took only a few seconds to realize why he had led you there.
The metal enclosure had been dented outwards, as though a lot of force had been applied to it from the inside. The seams were starting to split apart, artificial light from inside the enclosure peeking through the cracks. It looked like an elephant had been body-slamming the aviary’s walls.
“Wha- what happened?” you asked, stunned.
“We’ve had some… incidents recently. All of the halflings have been acting up more than usual and, as you can see, there’s been some damage to the aviary’s metal dome.”
“But the birds are so well-behaved!” you protested in shock.
“That’s the thing,” Mr. Crowley said gravely, “It seems to happen after your visits. The halflings become… agitated when you aren’t around.”
You couldn’t believe that the gentle, friendly birds had caused this kind of damage to a metal enclosure. And because of you? It was almost unthinkable.
“I don’t understand,” you said in a near whisper, “Why would they do this?”
Mr. Crowley sighed wearily, “Halflings form strong bonds, that’s why we have so many bonded species at this zoo. They will especially latch on to anyone who shows them true kindness. You clearly mean a lot to them and your absence upsets them.”
“I didn’t mean to cause any trouble,” you said, a pang of guilt tugging at your heartstrings.
“I know, and I don’t blame you,” Mr. Crowley reassured you, “But we need to find a solution.”
“Do you have any ideas?” you asked.
Mr. Crowley went silent and avoided eye contact. A thrill of apprehension shot up your spine but you willed it away. Mr. Crowley would never put you in danger, right?
“For now, just continue as normal,” Mr. Crowley replied, “We’ll work on fixing the enclosure.”
You nodded and the zoo director dismissed you with a careless wave. You hurried to the enclosure’s employee entrance and were disturbed to hear, instead of the usual quiet, the sounds of squawks and hoots and other cries.
You stepped inside and were surprised by the scene you were met with. The halflings were clearly distressed: pacing in their cages and looking around wildly, feathers fluffed up in agitation. Even calm-and-collected Vil looked ruffled.
“Guys? Are you alright?” you called out softly.
Ace was first to respond, “Where were you?” he demanded to know, voice tinged with panic, “You’re late! You’ve never been late before!”
“I’m sorry, Ace,” you said, trying to sound as soothing as possible, “I was talking to Mr. Crowley about some… problems with the enclosure.”
Ace’s eyes narrowed dangerously, “Problems? What problems?”
“It’s nothing to worry about,” you said, feeling a little nervous by the intensity of his gaze. Glancing around, you could see that every bird halfling had their eyes trained on you.
Trey flew from his birdhouse to his perch, landing gracefully on the wooden perch and fixing you with a stern glare and saying, “You can’t disappear.”
You nodded, trying to calm them all down, “I understand. It won’t happen again.”
Vil stepped forward, his beautiful feathers out of place and ruffled. His eyes were narrowed and he was frowning as though disappointed in you, “You always leave us.”
You were overwhelmed by all of their intense gazes and you felt a lump form in your throat. “I’m here as often as I can be.”
Epel looked up at you with watery eyes, “We worry when you leave. Not safe out there.”
You forced a gentle smile to your lips, “I’m perfectly safe. And I’m here now. Let’s all calm down everyone, okay?”
Slowly, the halflings relaxed. Rook stopped pacing, Vil smoothed his feathers, and Trey flew back into his bird house. Even though the tension had mostly disappeared, the underlying worry and hint of possessiveness remained.
You turned to Deuce, who hadn’t spoken yet, but instead looked at you wistfully. “Are you doing okay, Deuce?” you asked.
Deuce’s eyes softened, but the troubled frown remained on his face, “I’m fine,” his voice was strained, “I missed you.”
Your heart ached, “I missed you too,”
Ace piped up in an annoyed tone, “Why can’t you just stay here with us?”
You blinked in surprise, “I have a life outside the zoo. I’m sorry, but I can’t stay here.”
It was Cater’s turn to speak, and the expression he gave you made your stomach twist unpleasantly, “You’re too good to stay with us halflings, mademoiselle? We do not have a life outside this zoo, but we deserve that, don’t we?”
“Wh-what? Of course not!” you spluttered.
“Then stay!” Epel whined, a tear sliding down his cheek.
“I- I can’t,” your voice came out in a whisper. You shook yourself and turned around, heading for the staff door, “I’ll go get your meals…”
There was an eerie silence as you passed out their meals. Each of the halflings took their salads and set them aside, their appetites gone. The tension in the air was so thick you thought you might choke on it.
Finally, the time came for you to leave. As you turned towards the staff door, a hand grabbed the back of your shirt. You turned in surprise to find Riddle outside his enclosure, his pink feathers standing on end.
“Promise… you’ll come back.” Riddle choked out, fighting back tears.
You turned to him and gave him a gentle smile before pulling him into a hug. “Of course I’ll come back.”
“Promise!” he demanded.
“I promise.”
With the way they all looked at you, with victory and possessiveness, you halfway wondered if you had sold your soul with that promise.

Re: your notes on the bunny post
Are quail really easier than chickens to take care of? I didn’t know you could free range them!
I don't know what post you mean, but you can't free range them. However their hutches take up about as much space as a rabbit hutch (3x2 foot is pretty standard), and they stack (you can build a tower). So while a single chicken needs at least a 10x10 run + coop, and a group of chickens needs 10 square feet per bird in the run, and larger if you don't intend to free range them, a group of 36 quail can fit in 6 square feet (if you have a standard 3 level tower, some people even do more levels).
They don't require much. Their food is in a j feeder you can fill from the outside of the cage, you can automate their water system (I only have to refill the tubs about once a week, every other week on the breeder racks), their eggs roll out to the front so I never have to bother them to collect. They're on (coated) wire bottoms so their poop just falls through, and I dump and rinse the catch trays underneath about once a week on the breeders (this varies by how many you have in a cage- max housing density is 3 per square foot, most people do 1 or 2 per square foot). The rest of the time you can leave them to their quail lives, and since they're off the ground you basically never have to worry about illness or parasites (the later may still occur if they aren't well covered, the former if they aren't covered and you bring in sick birds, but they won't be able to pick it up from the ground, unlike chickens who are constantly sick and wormy on fb groups...). If you build an actual aviary and keep them just as pets they might get more complicated/expensive, but as farm animals in a use setting (ie, you get them for eggs and meat and they are livestock), they are easier and cheaper than chickens.

✧.* WILD HEARTS
synopsis: In which Oscar takes you on a zoo date for your birthday (Oscar Piastri x fem!reader who’s basically lilli)
authors note- this is a little something I wrote for @maxlarens for her birthday!! I hope you enjoy it Lilli, happy birthday, have the best day ever xx

You had always loved the zoo, so it was no surprise when Oscar took you to one for your birthday.
The summer sun filtered through the canopy of trees, casting dappled shadows on the winding paths. The air was filled with the earthy scent of leaves and the distant sounds of animals. Your heart felt light, your fingers interlaced with Oscar’s as you walked. His touch was warm and reassuring, grounding you in the present moment.
You wandered through the lush pathways, your pace leisurely as you took in the sights and sounds around you. At the penguin exhibit, your eyes lit up at the sight of the little creatures waddling about. Oscar’s laughter, rich and contagious, filled the air as he narrated the penguins’ imagined conversations.
“That one over there,” he said, pointing to a particularly energetic penguin, “is clearly the ringleader. Look at him bossing everyone around!”
You giggled, leaning into him. “And the one over there is definitely the mischief-maker,” you added, nodding towards a penguin attempting to steal a fish from another. The two of you stood close, your shoulders brushing, as you watched the penguins splash into the water and swim with surprising speed.
From there, you strolled into the aviary, where vibrant birds flitted about in a burst of colours. The air was alive with the sounds of chirping and the rustle of wings. Oscar paused to snap a few pictures, capturing your awestruck expression as you marvelled at a parrot that had landed nearby, its feathers a dazzling display of blues and greens.
“I think it likes you,” Oscar observed, his tone playful. He tucked his phone back into his pocket, a grin spreading across his face.
You glanced at him, a smile playing on your lips. “Maybe it can sense I’m a good person.”
“Or maybe it’s just hoping for a snack,” he teased, making you laugh. “But honestly, I could watch you all day. You’re even more mesmerising than these birds.”
A blush crept up your cheeks. “Says the F1 driver,” you replied, rolling your eyes affectionately. Oscar chuckled, his eyes crinkling with amusement.
Your next stop was the big cat enclosure. The lions and tigers lounged in the shade, their movements languid and powerful. The sight of these majestic creatures exuded an aura of regal authority. As you stood by the enclosure, watching a lioness stretch lazily, Oscar leaned in close, his breath warm against your ear.
“I think if I were an animal, I’d want to be a lion,” he mused, his voice low and thoughtful. “What about you?”
You thought for a moment, your eyes twinkling. “I think I’d be a swan. Elegant, graceful, and serene.”
Oscar chuckled, squeezing your hand gently. “That suits you perfectly,” he said, his voice filled with affection.
As you made your way towards the giraffe enclosure, Oscar led you to a secluded spot with a perfect view. Your breath caught as you noticed a checkered blanket spread out on the grass, complete with a basket full of your favourite treats. The setting was idyllic, the tall giraffes grazing peacefully in the background.
“You did all this for me?” You asked, your voice barely above a whisper, touched by the thoughtful gesture.
Oscar’s eyes softened as he looked at you. “Of course,” he replied, a tender smile playing on his lips. “I wanted to make your birthday special.”
You settled down on the blanket, the golden afternoon sun casting a warm glow over you. You shared sandwiches, fresh fruit, and sweet pastries, your conversation flowing effortlessly. You felt a deep sense of peace as you leant back against Oscar, your head resting on his shoulder. You watched the giraffes amble gracefully, their long necks swaying gently as they moved.
“You know,” you said softly, your eyes fixed on the majestic animals, “this is one of the best days I’ve ever had.”
Oscar wrapped his arm around you, pulling you closer. “Me too. Happy birthday, my love.”
As the sun began to set, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink, you felt a profound sense of contentment. The zoo around you seemed to quieten down, the day’s end bringing a serene calm.
In that perfect moment, surrounded by the beauty of the zoo and the love of your life, you knew this day would be a cherished memory forever. It was a celebration not just of your birthday, but of the love you shared and the simple, joyful moments that made life truly special.

An Offer You Can't Refuse- Part 4
Part 3
Hero was now quite convinced that Supervillain did not live in a house, but rather, some kind of castle disguised as a house. The corridors and rooms went on and on, and each one served a purpose somehow. Everywhere Hero looked, there was a henchman on guard, watching them. As they followed Supervillain throughout the enormous estate, their hopes of escape dwindled and dwindled until it was replaced by a sinking feeling with a hint of despair thrown in.
“And here are the gardens,” Supervillain said, crossing through the conservatory and into a gorgeous jungle of biodiversity. Rather than a lawn, the ground was covered in moss, and the flowers that bloomed above it all appeared to be perfectly cared for.
Hero froze when they saw a familiar face, one that had just been hit with a snowball this morning.
The henchman that had fought them waved awkwardly, then went back to tending the hedge.
“But you said-” Hero started.
“That that particular guard would only be fertilizing my plants from now on, yes,” Supervillain said, “I daresay their gift was for gardening rather than watching little heroes. I should’ve known, really. I must apologize again for their behavior. I don’t think they were expecting a snowball to the face.”
Hero blushed a little, embarrassed.
“I know you were just defending yourself,” Supervillain chuckled, noting the change in demeanor, “I don’t blame you.”
Supervillain led Hero on, past a beautiful wisteria tree and an apiary to a koi pond.
Supervillain handed Hero a cup of fish food.
“Go on, they love the stuff. Pig fish, I call them.”
Hero looked down at the pond, then scattered the food. Several koi fish came swimming right up, gobbling down the pellets and darting away. Hero smiled; it was fun to watch.
“I think you’re going to like it here in time,” Supervillain said, walking Hero over a little stone bridge to an aviary, “I know it will take getting used to, and I don’t intend to rush you. I just ask that you try.”
Hero looked up at them.
“Why… why did you buy me? I asked you earlier, but you never answered.”
Supervillain let a lorikeet perch on their hand. They held out a cup of nectar to it, which it sipped gleefully.
“The alternative was to let that general have you. Your life would have been torture. I couldn’t let you become a living weapon.”
Hero watched a sparrow fly by.
“So…you bought me… to save me?”
“Well it isn’t completely as selfless as all that. I did keep you after all.”
Supervillain let the lorikeet take off from their hand.
“Why did you keep me?” Hero asked.
Supervillain paused, then nodded to a scarlet macaw.
“You see that bird over there?”
Hero followed their gaze.
“You are meant to buy them in pairs, otherwise they become very lonely and depressed. I’m still looking for a mate for him. Without companionship, the aviary might as well be a bigger cage.”
“Isn’t it a bigger cage anyway?”
“Maybe,” Supervillain considered, “I relate to that macaw. You can have all the power and wealth in the world, but what good is that without someone to have it for?”
Hero’s cheeks started to burn as they took in Supervillain’s words.
“Anyway,” Supervillain said, opening the aviary door for Hero, “I still haven’t shown you the indoor theater. Hurry now, Amelia likes to escape.”
A flamingo honked, trying to scurry out with them.
“Amelia! No,” Supervillain said firmly, “stay! Stay… stay.”
They closed the door behind the irritated pink bird and headed back to the manor. Hero had a lot to think about.

Note: You have many code names. Many. Many of them are used by certain people. Like the devil. You have many names. Boomer, Opal, Crimson and Emerald are the main ones used to refer to you. As your real name is covered in layers of black ink and confidential files restricted to the higher-ups.
Note 2: The only defining factors, I will give you, are the following: Codename. As labelled. Height. You are not small. You are rather tall, at least six feet and four inches. Roughly the same height as Ghost. Your voice is also quite deep, for reasons you can come up with yourself. As no answer is wrong or right. Might make an oc version sometime.
Note 3: I suggest listening to Moon Shadow by Cat Stevens when you read this.
Summary: “I don’t see you the same way anymore. I don’t respect cheaters, no matter the reason you might have had. You ruined this home by yourself.”
Boomer grew up on a farm in the Australian outback. Her father is an Australian Commando. Thus, she didn't see him nearly as often as her mother, who happened to cheat on her father while he was deployed. Her excuse was the lack of affection making her cheat with his older brother, Marcus. The CEO of a tech company he started up in America.
“I don’t see you the same way anymore. I don’t respect cheaters, no matter the reason you might have had. You ruined this home by yourself.” Boomer told her mother once her father came back on leave. He was immediately told by her.
Boomer decided to stay with her father, even though the divorce, and she hadn’t spoken to her mother since the end of the divorce had taken place. Her father, even though heart broken about the affair and the eventual divorce, he tried to keep a positive attitude through it all. Boomer saw right through quite often.
Pulling things apart, fixing them regardless of what it was, became Boomer's silent mantra as she grew older, mirroring the tireless work ethic of her father.
The farm grew quiet without her mother's laughter, but it grew stronger with the echoes of her father's footsteps and the occasional clank of tools as he taught her the ropes of being a true Australian commando.
She took to the training like a natural, her determination fuelled by the anger she felt towards her mother's betrayal. Each push-up, each mile run, every target hit, was a declaration of her loyalty to the truth and the man who never abandoned her.
“I don’t want to become my mother and cheat on any potential spouse, man or woman.” Boomer, adamant in wanting to be reliable regardless of any circumstances she would encounter in her life.
Her father often came home to small things fixed like the broken tractor, a leaky sink, and even a few upgrades to the farm’s security system.
Even reading into carpentry DIY projects like the bee aviaries she built from scratch. Her dedication to self-reliance grew, and so did her skills, a silent promise to never become what her mother was.
Her aunt, Alyssa, came over a few times a month to keep the house from going up in flames. Boomer showed her all the DIY things she made, often wanting to rescue bees from abandoned areas, unwanted areas and sometimes even from people’s backyards.
Her father had a slight smirk on his face when she brought home her first queen bee, a rare breed she had found in the forest. He knew she had her mother’s charm and beauty, but he was proud she had chosen a path of honesty and reliability.
Alyssa’s work as a beekeeper rehoming bees from areas where they aren’t wanted became an unexpected bonding point for Boomer. Her aunt’s gentle nature with the creatures and the way she spoke about them as if they were soldiers in a grand army, protecting the future of the planet, sparked a fascination within Boomer.
She began to see the world through a different lens, one that valued every creature’s contribution, and the delicate balance that needed to be maintained.
Her father noticed the change in her, the way she had found peace in the buzzing of the bees and the precision of their movements. He knew this was something more than just a phase; it was a piece of her soul finding its place in the world.
The farm grew not only in crops but in life as well, with more bees thriving under Alyssa’s guidance and Boomer’s care. It became a sanctuary for those who needed a second chance, a reflection of Boomer’s own spirit.
Boomer took the bee’s safety and health seriously, researching how to take care of the bees better and what ways to keep them happy as well as healthy.
Setting up a mini lab to study the bees in their natural environment without disrupting them became a weekend routine. The bees had become more than just a hobby; they were her silent companions, a symbol of her resilience and unyielding spirit.
One thing her father noticed was the ebony wood varnish on the bee aviaries, making them look more like a piece of art rather than a simple shelter for bees.
He knew his daughter had a creative side to her, but he never knew it would be expressed in such a way. Her creations weren’t just functional, but aesthetically pleasing, a reflection of her respect and admiration for the bees.
Each aviary was named after a character from an X-Men comic she loved as a child. She had found solace in their stories, in their struggle for acceptance and fighting for what they believed in despite their differences.
Her favourite, the Wolverine aviary, housed the most aggressive bees, which she found quite fitting. Each name was engraved in a small brass plate at the entrance, adding a touch of whimsy to the otherwise utilitarian structures.
She would then sell the honey on the farmer’s market for her pocket money. As she grew older, her love for bees remained as she got more invested in the military. She enlisted at seventeen, she told her father she wanted to because it felt like it was the right thing to do.
“I’ll give it my best shot, I promise.” Boomer pinky swore, her eyes gleaming with excitement and determination as she held her father’s hand tightly. His calloused grip returned the gesture, a silent promise of support and belief in her.
Her expertise in heavy weaponry like heavy machine guns, grenade launchers, rocket launchers, miniguns, anti-material rifles, and even the rare use of the Predator drone grew from her time in the military. She had always been a good shot, something her father had noticed when they used to go hunting together back in the outback.
Boomer dove into electrical engineering, electrical technology, nanotechnology and even robotics. During her military training, it was an eye-opener to an even bigger world. A world she is more than a little keen on learning more about day by day. Even reading more about in her downtime.
Growing up, her pets were bees and the blue Merle Shetland Sheepdogs that her aunt brought with her, which grew into a small pack over the years. They became her loyal companions, protecting the farm and the bees from predators. The dogs had an uncanny sense of when Boomer was upset, and they’d often sit by her side, offering comfort with their soft, warm presence. Her father named her first dog, Blue, after her mother’s favourite colour, hoping it would bring some peace to their lives.
Other than beekeeping and pulling things apart. The extracurricular activities she got into before she turned seventeen were gymnastics and ice skating.
Gymnastics was a way to keep her body in tip-top shape, she was always a fast learner and had a knack for acrobatics. The strength and flexibility it gave her were surprisingly useful in the field, allowing her to navigate tight spaces and pull off stunts most wouldn’t dare.
Ice skating, on the other hand, was her escape. The cool rush of the wind against her face, the sound of the blades cutting through the ice, it was her silent battlefield where she faced and conquered her inner demons, pushing herself beyond her limits.
Boomer, at sixteen years old, rescued a nine-month-old blind cat on the way home from school once, her father saw her with it. She was determined to care for the blind cat and named her, Shadow. The cat's full name is Moon Shadow. Naming it after the song Moon Shadow by Cat Stevens.
One of her father’s favourite songs. Thus, it became one of her many favourite songs as well. A classic ‘60s song amongst the many she would listen to on repeat. She listened to it when she got ready for bed, even after he passed months after her 24th birthday.
Her father’s death was a blow she never saw coming. A heart attack in his sleep, the doctor’s said it was peaceful. But for Boomer, it was anything but peaceful.
Her entire world had crumbled around her. The one constant, the one person she had always relied on, was no longer there.
It took a while to mourn her father, taking on many short term to keep herself from going off into the deep end. A distraction to keep her moving, both in mind, body and soul.
The farm remained her sanctuary, but now it was filled with the echoes of her father’s laughter, her aunt’s gentle guidance, and the ever-present hum of the bees.
She continued her military service with renewed vigor, channeling her grief into her work, seeking solace in the structure and discipline it provided.
Most of her dead dad jokes were made to help her cope with her father’s death. If he were around to hear them. He would most likely face palm himself. Followed by an even darker one in return.
“I loved my father. He’s got a darker sense of humour than I did and possibly ever have.” Boomer told her therapist. “I have my pet cats and my dogs. But I live on my own on the farm now.”
The therapist nodded, scribbling something down on her notepad. “How has that been for you?”
“Too quiet. I don’t particularly like the quiet as much as I used to. Maybe it was the fact I had other people around me?” Boomer answered, her voice filled with a tinge of sadness.
The therapist, Dr. Krovic, nodded thoughtfully. “It’s common to feel that way after a loss. The quiet can be deafening when you’re used to the noise of a loving home. Tell me, have you considered getting involved in any social activities? Maybe reconnecting with your mother?”
“If she wanted to, she would have made the effort ages ago.” Boomer replied.
The thought of her mother still brought a bitterness that lingered in the back of her throat. She knew the woman had moved on, living a life of luxury with her aunt’s husband, Marcus. It was a life that didn’t have room for her, not anymore.

JJK Bridgerton Inspired HC’s - Gojo, Geto, Nanami
authors note: so your girl is on a Bridgerton binge and a JJK rewatch binge so like.. I’m boutta cater to such a niche audience lmao
genre: historical romance
tw: a lil horny sometimes but ultimately SFW
AO3 Crosspost

💙 Crown Prince Satoru Gojo and The Debutant 💙
• A prince by birth and next in line for the throne.
• Well bred, read, and wanted most dead. Has lived through multiple assasination attempts.
• Was never really interested in the prospect of marriage, was more invested in rehauling the royal system as a whole.
• Likes to spend his time with the young royals and nobles like his ward Megumi.
• W H O R E. Chronic flirt. Smart enough not to accidently sire an heir but knows how to have his fun.
• Met you during your debut year. You were the first woman to actually catch his eye.
• First he thought it was just more sexual attraction, but after a dance and a conversation he knew it was much more. Your wit was unmatched and you had snark enough to keep up with him.
• Played it cool though because he knew if he gave you too much attention you’d have a target on your back, and he wanted to make sure you were his.
• Goes out of his way to see you as much as he can. Lots of ‘accidental’ run-ins.
• The moment that sealed the deal for him was when you near bested him in a fencing match. It had been so long since someone had surprised him.
• Though being under the eyes of the crown prince doesn’t go unnoticed. Soon enough other men began attempting to court you. Even worse, certain parties started conspiring to use you against him.
• This all came to a head when you were cornered at a ball. You were meant to be taken hostage and used to lure and kill the prince. But there was no corner of the world they could hide you where he would not look. His day started and ended with you and if they harmed you the world would burn in your name.
• You were found and rescued by him, and your kidnappers were dealt with in a swift and brutal fashion.
• He proposed on the spot. No hesitation he was on that shit. You were to be his and that was that. And you would never be alone again.
• The wedding was huge. No expense was spared and he catered to your every whim and desire. You were his gorgeous only ever.
• Honeymoon was.. Oh baby. Literally. You weren’t coming back without being knocked up.
💜 Duke Suguru Geto and The Viscountess 💜
• Of common birth and rose to the rank of Duke after the former Duke passed away. He was the only living male relative, hence receiving the title.
• A former friend of the crown prince. The pair had a falling out when Geto grew power hungry in his new role. He is still a respected member of the ton, though under constant watch of the crown.
• As a Duke he is in charge of a small township. He’s known for his high taxes and using his citizens to collect rare birds from the surrounding area. He keeps them in an aviary with clipped wings, and sells them to other nobility for profit.
• He once was in charge of two townships, but one mysteriously burnt to the ground. An investigation brought no results, but it did reveal two survivors. Geto took them in as his wards.
• He met you during one of his bird sales to the Queen. You were a member of her entourage.
• You were a young widowed Viscountess with two young daughters of your own. Your husband had died of medical complications, leaving you alone with no sons. Luckily you had favor with the queen, but with no husband and no heirs you were in desperate need of saving.
• He found your unwavering commitment to your children admirable and you two began a long friendship.
• Your girls all got along well, and you loved his daughters with all your heart. Something about you doing their hair and tending to them so gently made his heart flutter.
• The friendship did eventually turn into more.. Especially after you admitted you urned for more children.
• Enter baby fever Suguru.
• He proposed in his aviary, promising to love your children as his own, and to give you as many more children as you desire.
• Townsfolk said Geto became far kinder after your marriage.
💛 Viscount Kento Nanami and The Housekeeper 💛
• Kento was born into his role as Viscount. And he takes it extremely seriously. Balancing finances and planning events, maintaining a reputation for his family.
• Unlike other men in the ton he rarely goes out to gentlemans clubs. He goes on the occasional hunt though he sees it as pointless and barbaric.
• His goal was to find a practical match, not a love match. He wanted someone who would bare him an heir, so that one day he could rest knowing he had done all he could for his family.
• His housekeeper eventually was forced to retire after injuring her hip. She had served his family for over fifty years and raised him, so he ensured she lived the rest of her life comfortably.
• But.. That meant he had to find a replacement. Easier said than done. No one could live up to the former housekeeper. Plenty of maids were recommended but.. None of them felt right. So he put out a request.
• And then you showed up. Younger, so he was skeptical. But you came on high recommendation from her majesty herself. Apparently you were quite capable and able to handle the heavy loads associated with the job.
• And lord were you. No one could have taken this job more seriously. Not a hair out of place, not a meal late. Sheets pressed. Animals tended.
• And Nanami found it.. Oh so attractive. Your dedication. Your concentration.
• Nothing impressed him more than your skills in the kitchen. You were an amazing cook. Although it wasn’t a listed priority in your job, you still took time out of your day to prepare one of his meals. Usually his afternoon tea.
• After a few months, he was starting to grow fond of you. It was improper to feel such emotions for a servant. But he couldn’t help notice all the little things. The crease of your brow as you kneaded dough. The satisfied smile after a days work completed. The pensive worry in your eyes as you dotted on him in his study.
• Eventually he had enough. Forgetting formality for once in his life, he gave you his heart. And you returned it.
• It was a scandal, but he took it. Because having you made it all worth it.

ISAT Sky:Cotl!AU Part 1: The Dock
AKA: How I think a possible sequel could be stroctured, using Sky: Cotl as a base for this AU)
SO! We know that Something happened after Siffrin almost destroyed the world. Something broke in a way, by the presence of Red. And also by the fact that the Daydreaming one can remember more clearly about their sister (they remember her appearance and that she had a bag, all things that are more visual than the abstrac fact that she liked to sing, etc… all this while she didn’t struggle to remember)
So the island is so forgotten, you can barely see it anymore (you CAN, briefly, see it by the end of the game)
… but that doesn’t mean is not there physically, right? Wouldn’t that mean you could theoretically still go there? It would probably kill someone from the amount of headace they would have probably. But something happened, and remembering some of the stuff isn’t as painful anymore.
The story could begin with the gang going to Bambouche, maybe to go see Bonnie’s village. The are rumors about people starting to see the island again, But it seems clouds and fog are in the way most of the time. Siffrin could finally start talking slowly to their family about what he could remember from his home.
This could lead them to try and physically go there to the Island by boat (Shiffrin used to have one, and could properly use it even at a young age, so they maybe they know the basics of navigation?) If you can see the island from Bamb0uche it means it can’t be more than a day on a boat away.
What they land on is something similar to the Isle of Dawn, and as they explore, Siffrin unintentionally activates one of the first murals of the game. (I’m using Sky's old beginning for this, not the one after the Aviary update).
“All are given breath by starlight…” “The first of us lived in the joy that we would one day return to the stars”
The murals could be written in Siffrin language, and being that Siffrin DOES have Memory of Memories even after the loops ended, he CAN read without pain his language again.
As they venture further, they explore the only things left which are the boats and the remaining dock.
The Spirits
The spirits could be either actual people who are in an unconscious state from being part of the Wish or reflections of them (almost like the Sadness is the equivalent of becoming lightless in Sky) and their memories can help you remember how to say specific words in your language that will help you later unlock doors or simply slowly breaking the Wish.
Winged Lights as Wish/Star levels
As for all the stuff about winged lights, I would like for Siffrin to gain his first “star” here, but in any case, I don’t think they would be able to fight until the end. But each “star” or “winged light” could be used as a way to gain more Wish Craft or XP in a way.
In any case, the Family could reach the main entrance of the Kingdom (the Temple of Dawn), and more star-based riddles are solved to enter the temple. A vision of the future gives them a flash of the Wish and lowers their HP aggressively, but then, they see one constellation and Siffrin realize that he can finally recognize it. The first constellation he can recognize after years...
A short note about the colors
The first hints of the history of The Country could lead them to see specks of one of the colors.
Now, my main theory about colors is that whoever made the Wish for the country to disappear could have made it in a way phrased so that they also took its “Light” away, and being colors a variance of light refracted, that could have caused them from being taken away.
(also because I like how in Sky the following mural says “But then the sky went dark, and our kingdom shattered”)
What it would be REALLY cool to see in a sequel, is how shades of colors are slowly coming back the more you uncover about The Country (kind of like Gris in a way)
From darkness, one color at a time, they could light up the memory of the Country again!
And that’s all for part one! If you like where this is going, please let me know!

Getting into SVSSS in an 'only cares abt OG!SJ' way and it's getting to the point of madness where i concoct a defense attorney AU where the primary plot is them getting SJ's help to fight the court case of the millenia: Tianlang Jun VS The (cultivation) World
half wanting to abide by this tumblr post's thesis on detectives / half want to do a vague bg of them being in a small sect and being disillusioned by the handling of things wuxia defected cop detective style / half want to just have the punchline be that it's JJ Falcon from Aviary Attorney who isekai-ed into human fantasy china and has no idea what's going on.
Anyway rogue cultivator obv bc it gives them the jurisdiction to be the wuxia equiv of a random detective that pops out of the woodwork / the desperation to need jobs to survive that preferably do not make them (but in practical reality often do) risk their life / enrichment of landing in any random fuckass town and going y'all got a mystery in here?
Introduction is case fic #1 researching a human trafficking case that ends up involving a demonic cultivator and demon children also being victims. Either falling into the orbit of SJ who is on the same case and they work together on it time-is-of-the-essence-style OR colliding at the climax of it and getting in his way bleeding heart 'the demon isn't involved and is actually a kid also' and he reluctantly is like ok fine whatever as long as it doesn't become my problem.
And after he's like well that was an insufferable idiot i just met. Good thing they're so stupid they'll get themself killed sooner or later and never bother me again
(time skip)
bothers him again
arc: TLJ vs the (cultivation) world. somehow falls into investigating that old shit show and is like hmmmmm.
needs support from someone from a major non-HH sect who could be sympathetic to demons/reasonable/could be convinced releasing the demon lord and acquitting him of his crimes is the rational thing to do instead of waiting for him to break out
SJ isn't rly any of those things but he is A. a life-long "the worst thing that could happen will happen" fatalizer and minimizing TLJ's anger at CQ's involvement in his imprisonment is important and it's the perfect role to ALSO throw the rest of the sects under the bus about it if need be // B. being involved if this whole thing is a lesson in futility that he can cut off at the root if it seems dangerous to CQ // C. genuine nosy bitch interest in what this insane and yet highly thoughtful guy who believes in 'due process' and 'innocent until proven guilty' and 'restorative justice' and whatever is interesting and his life as peak lord (CEO of children he hates with co-workers he hates) is sucky enough he's like OK fine i could use the intellectual stimulation.
OC attempting to find someone who checks all the above boxes and doing BG research and SJ is the most reasonable CQ person of power actually bc of the brothel allegations. BC tbh most big-sect cultivators are pretty high and mighty and aren't even willing to really engage with the 'lesser' of society / basic deduction of just being willing to go to the WRP and be like hi quarstion abt peak lord shen. is he like, chill? oh you respect the privacy of your patrons and seem actually weirdly protective? ok i can work with this.
Actively accosts him there and is like hi i'm a fan of your work in [specialty field he's probably written an academic article in] and wanted your assistance with [mid-tier case vaguely related that i can use as a recruitment interview], minor mini case where they talk around each other death note style but more in a SJ usual paranoia around strangers / OC autistically make him think in death note circles.
Simple case that unintentionally unlocks a deeper conspiracy that takes longer and they have to actually lock in abt it and SJ slightly like a millimeter lets his guard down by the end in a 'well they're competent and almost fine ig' way until OC drops the hi i commissioned you here under false pretenses and he's like fuck this guy actually.
OC pitches to SJ and he's like no. Before being like actually red flags this person isn't chill and somehow hasn't gotten shanked in an alley yet from chronic naivety and if this becomes a Thing he has to deal with later he's setting something on fire.
SJ has (reluctantly) joined your party!
SJ: OK what is your plan to investigate this
OC: well i figured since your sect helped in the initial subjugation they'd know about the wards on the mt. can you get me in to talk to him?
SJ:
SJ somehow reluctantly gets swayed into the first plan of attack being to actually talk to TLJ. by breaking into a heavily fortified magic prison. they have some 'isnt this illegal aren't you a law guy' 'well im on the side of the people mainly' and in the process SJ gains very very reluctant tangible respect instead of just being baffled at the audacity of every prior thing he's bore witness to them doing.
Filler abt SJ doing his own bg research on the subjugation since he wasn't directly involved like YQY was. Insert maybe vague worldbuilding on the cultivation vs mortal vs demon world divide // the beginning of the domino chain effect of finding out abt Xuan Su occurs. But in a 'i have a job RN and i don't have time for mulling over my trauma codependent childhood traitor' kind of way.
Scouting TLJ's prison and coming across ZZL, vague buddy cop bonding and worldview. Immovable Object "suffering is inevitable and unavoidable and character building bc if it wasn't i couldn't rationalize my trauma" SJ vs "human actors can consciously choose mercy and compassion towards others and a society build on inequality and vengeance is cringe actually" unstoppable force of the themes and plot OC. SJ stop being politically apathetic fail class traitor and start becoming a medieval class warfare advocate. ZZL is also here and mostly just confused.
Cross examination of ZZL > meeting TLJ > initial comedy of any TLJ interaction and disbelief at what's happening > Cross examination of TLJ > comparing the public narrative VS TLJ's account
But anyway OFC it's early enough that LBH's adoptive mom lives/at least gets help for her preventable medical issues. Maybe SJ has a POV moment that showcases his character growth in a 'i want to absolutely punt this kid out a window and yet im too busy having a crisis abt the tangible positive effect i'm learning i can have on the world.' and does not in fact punt a child. #Growth
Crux of the mystery ofc is: what happened to Su Xiyan / what were the HH palace master's motivations and what was he trying to accomplish if TLJ can be trusted. Splitting the team to look into rumors on both. Also eventually finding LBH but IDK where exactly that fits into the investigative portion.
Also somewhere during this SJ also making a cover story abt why he's been going out so much and hanging out with this rogue cultivator. IDK maybe they did some whistleblower shit or wrote a legal manifesto that was highly censored and is being hunted by mortal governments for their 'the mandate of heaven can come fight me if it's so real' claims and SJ is like this is the fool i'm giving asylum to/faking the identity of bc they're vaguely competent. Except only YQY is given that first bit of information and neglected shelter dog just sighs and lets it happen but no one else knows abt that so this random stranger is just highly suspicious and the inevitable unfounded and unreasonable rumor mill does what it does. Actual rumor content does not matter it's whatever is funniest.
Part of this backstory also means they're wasting time mystery side-questing it up scooby doo mystery incorporated style. This small town TLJ told us he frequented that we went to get character witness accounts about is suffering from a paranormal drought while the magistrate of the larger trading town nearby has a luxurious garden estate unaffected by it! this borderlands outpost has been experiencing increased and out-of-season raids on their farmland by wildlife and the black market has an influx of rare and unusual products from the demon realm? etc.
Eventually finding concrete evidence that puts the palace master's claims from 'reasonable doubt' to 'actively contradicted by the facts' area and they finally provide their investigation evidence presentation to YQY and manhandle him into PR lying to the rest of the peak lords that this was a totally secret investigation he assigned to SJ and uhhh this other guy. And that it was totally fully sanctioned by him and we need a united front against the other sects right guys? Right guys?? to the variable reaction of the rest of the PLs. and if it's airplane!SQH then he's also here having a minor panic attack like WHY ARE WE CHANGING GENRE INTO ACE ATTORNEY. this is a work founded on plot holes and easily resolvable misunderstandings! a world founded on biases, hearsay, and self-righteous cult-like divisiveness!! people aren't supposed to second guess their preconceptions!!
Confrontation w HH and the actual legal court of battle climax.
Xuan Su is not resolved within the mainline but maybe a sequel of OC being like a transient but now official assistant CQ calls on for legal bullshit. Scene in my mind of them giving a mock (inaccurate bc it's my own knowledge) psychology character assessment workshop and SJ is not there so they're like OK an easy one let's start with something simple and work up. Tell me 3 tangible facts you know about your fellow PL SQQ and from those define in 3 traits his character. and everyone realizes they don't know fuck all abt jackshit actually and the group has a collective through-clenched-teeth Hmmmm moment.
Additional story sequel of OC like hey SJ someone told me to look into this old case and find someone maybe you can help? I'm working with some really old, subjective, assumptive information that contradicts itself and SJ is like sure what is it and it's Qui Haitang asking them to track down the slave that killed her family and SJ has a full trauma moment until the OC is like well f to the girl and im ofc sympathetic but first slavery should be illegal and while this girl deserves closure i don't wanna ruin some guys life abt it even if he is guilty and also kind of based for a teenager to do what is being claimed they did and SJ is like what and OC is like what.
#mine#svsss#shen jiu#the sj induced mania has been ravaging my psyche for like 2 months. open invitation for blunt force trauma is welcome#also included in this is zzl like i can help! and tries to join the party only to get immediately shot down like sorry but you're highly#biased and could compromise the integrity of our investigation. and so hes in the holding pen for a while just like🧍♂️until they get#enough evidence and are like ok tlj seems legit. you can help now

The following audio log contains Aviary Dummy(A.D) Verbally summarizing the content it witnessed while at Mr. Days' Birthday. Included are Zanrluaph Zandeeee(01-5)'s Reactions and response to the report.
(A.D and 01-5 have been place on either end of a black fold out table. 01-5 is slouching in her chair, visibly displeased. A.D is sat straight in it's chair, holding it's report in it's hands)
(A.D begins reading from it's report)
A.D: Upon my arrival to the Bell residence I was instructed to head towards the property of Mr. Days' referred to as "Grat's Void".
A.D: Following my entrance I made contact with Mr. Days and succesfuly relayed your submitted mesage to him.
(01-5 nods softly)
A.D: Before concluding the conversation Mr. Days asked me to relay his reply to you.
(A.D coughs)
A.D (In a perfect imitation of Mr. Days' voice): "I was a bit confused as to what a pez dispenser was, though, I appreciate it regardless!"
(A.D continues in it's regular tone)
A.D: Please state your reaction to this information for the record.
(A.D puts down the report waiting for 01-5's reply)
01-5: W-what am I suppose to say to that? I'd thank him if he was here, but he aint so what the hell do I say instead??
(A.D writes on it's report for a moment before looking back at 01-5)

A.D: The celebration included cake and everyone appeared to be enjoying themselves, including Miss Marcid, who did not display any signs of distres, outside of her usual levels during the festivities.
01-5: Wait! So Marci's ok? Thank Fucking god.! Is sh-
A.D: Please refrain from using expletives during the recording proces.
01-5: God. What's the point in giving me the ability to swear if you're not gonna let me? You might as well just do what Daisy does with the tags and stuff.
A.D: We can look into it if you believe it could be of benefit.
01-5: No! God No. The LAST thing I want is to be forced to call Marci my "Tree sitting partner" or whatever.
A.D: Understood.
(A.D continues reading from the report)
A.D: At the point where entities began to leave Mr. Days and the remaining guests formed a circle to converse. Miss Marcid remained behind to lean against a nearby wall. Afterwards climbing to the higher point in the location to question me.
01-5: What did she ask abou-
01-5: No! Wait. You're pedantic about questions, let me try again.
01-5: What did YOU tell her?
A.D: I informed Miss Marcid about my name, my current asignment, my asociation with H.A.S, the mision statement of H.A.S, the request and reasoning behind my observation and my awarenes of your location.
01-5: Ok, ok. So she knows where I am?
A.D: Negative.
01-5: But didn't you tell her that you're watching them all so I can know what's happening before you let me go?
A.D: Correct.
01-5: So how come she doesn't know where I am?
A.D: You are derailing the purpose of this record. We shall end this here for today.
(A.D gets up and begins to leave the room)
(01-5 begins to become aggitated)
01-5: Hey Asshole, get back here! I'm not done talking to you!

Twisted Zoo: Chapter Three

Summary: You’re a brand new zookeeper at The Halfling Zoo- a place where half-animals live in captivity. Your job is simple- feed them and study them. Your main worry is that one of the more dangerous halflings might kill you.
Unfortunately, that may become the least of your worries.
WARNINGS: none for now
Previous Chapter: Chapter Two
Next Chapter: Chapter Four
Note: All characters are aged up, since there will be mature themes in future parts.
Also, I can’t promise I’ll finish this. I suck at finishing stories.
Note 2: I worry that maybe these birds don’t fit their counterparts well, since no one correctly guessed them all ;-; I made Riddle a flamingo only because of the Queen of Hearts’ flamingos, and I thought he’d like to be one, if he had to choose LOL
Note 3: You have probably already guessed that the heart system means how quickly they’re becoming yandere. Please keep in mind some with gain hearts faster or slower than the others.
—----------------------------------
Today would be a more relaxed day, as you only had one exhibit to visit. The birds were all separated by wire fences, but they were all part of one big aviary. Tomorrow, you’d be working with the three remaining exhibits all at once, so you were glad to have this day of respite.
The bird keeper was a kind older lady. She gave you a bunch of salads, with notes as to which one belonged to which bird. The salads with shrimp were obviously for the flamingos, but the other salads were a bit harder to remember.
You walked into the aviary, a large plastic container with the separate salads under your arm. The birds were all wide awake, with the exception of the owl, whose green hair was just barely visible from where he had covered his head with one of his wings to sleep.
“Hey! I want to eat first!” A voice cried out to you, “Hey, lady with the food, over here!”
You were surprised to hear such fluent English from a halfling, but when you turned your head to the source of the calls, you immediately understood.
Parrot halflings caught onto human languages quickly. That didn’t necessarily make them smarter than other halflings, it was simply something they were naturally good at. This parrot halfling had mostly-orange wings to match his hair, although the tips of his wings tapered off to yellow and then a vibrant blue.
The parrot gazed at you curiously for a moment, before his expression became more mischievous, “Guten morgen? Ohayo? Buen día? Zǎoshang hǎo? Dobroye utro?”
“Good morning to you too, show off,” you laughed, walking up to him, “I assume you’re the salad with sunflower seeds?”
He grinned, “That’s me! I’m starving!”
You felt like you were talking with a human, and that fact made you feel a little sick inside. Should an animal with the ability to converse so normally really be confined to a wire cage?
You rummaged through the plastic container, looking for the salad with seeds. The parrot halfling spread his beautiful wings and flew onto a perch closer to you, his talons curling around the wood as he impatiently waited for his meal.
Finally, you found the correct salad and handed it over to him. His eyes lit up and he snatched it from you.
“Thanks!” He said with a grin. Before you could ask him his name, he spread his wings and flew into an enormous birdhouse to eat there. A little disappointed that you couldn’t have a conversation with him, you turned to the raven in the cage next to him.
“Hello! I brought you a salad!” You called out to the raven halfling. He walked over to the edge of the exhibit and tilted his head, looking you over curiously.
You found his salad fairly quickly, as it was accented with bright red apple slices. The raven drew closer and you admired how his feathers and matching hair color were not black, but a dark blue that seemed to shine in the early sunlight.
“What’s your name?” You asked as he took the salad from you.
He grabbed the salad and held it close to him, as though someone may steal it. It took him a few moments to process your question before he answered, “Deuce.”
You knew that ravens were normally very intelligent animals. But with the way Deuce took so long to answer and the way he struggled with the plastic packaging, you had a feeling that the same could not be said for the halflings.
Deuce struggled with the packaging a little while more before he handed it back to you and, with a blush settling on his cheeks, muttered a small, “Help.”
You opened it for him with a smile, “No need to be embarrassed, Deuce, it can be tricky to open sometimes.”
He nodded, but you weren’t sure he actually understood you. Either way, he seemed happy enough to have his salad open for him. Similar to the parrot halfling, he retreated to his birdhouse to eat his meal.
You decided to try giving the owl his meal next, although you weren’t sure you would be able to wake him. You would feel bad if you disturbed his rest.
However, you had no need to worry, because the owl halfling was awake and alert when you approached his cage. You rummaged through the salads for the one with grilled chicken chunks in it and found it quickly. The other salads had either shrimp or were plain, saved specifically for the flamingos and peacocks respectively.
You handed over the chicken salad and the owl halfling smiled politely at you, giving you a gentle, “Thank you.”
Unlike the parrot and raven halflings, he did not open his salad and dig in, but instead put it aside for later. Upon noticing your confused look, he explained, “I’m saving it for nighttime.”
You nodded but secretly wondered why they wouldn’t just feed him at night only. After all, that’s the time owls hunt. But you supposed it made it easier to just feed everyone at the same time instead of making any exceptions.
Pretty lazy, in your opinion.
Next was the flamingos, and you approached their enclosure in awe. Their feathers were a soft, beautiful pink and, instead of the talons you were used to seeing on bird halflings, they had bare feet much like a human’s, just with webbing between the toes.
“Shrimp salads, anyone?” You jokingly asked the two flamingos.
One of them, the one with light orange hair, flew over with such excitement that you took a step back, “You’re new!”
“Yes, I’m filling in for the morning meal today!” You said cheerfully.
“How exciting!” The flaming gasped, “That’s exciting, isn’t it, Riddle?”
The other flamingo, a more serious-looking man with red hair, cautiously watched you. He did not respond to the more enthusiastic flamingo.
“Let me just…” the orange-haired flamingo took a salad from you, opened the container, and began methodically arranging the shrimp and lettuce until it looked like it was something out of Chef Ramsey’s kitchen, “Perfect! Hashtag delicious!”
You stared at him, wondering where he’d learned to talk like a teenage girl. Riddle, annoyed by his fellow flamingo’s behavior, snapped at him, “You don’t have a phone. Stop with that ‘hashtag’ nonsense.”
You were shocked to hear a halfling besides a parrot speak so fluently, not to mention so prim and proper sounding. Handing over a salad to Riddle, you asked the other flamingo, “What’s your name?”
“Cater!” He said with a proud smile, as though his name was an accomplishment. You couldn’t help but giggle at his antics, which seemed to deepen Riddle’s frown.
“I have to give the peacocks their salads now,” you told Cater.
“Bye-bye!” Cater said cheerfully, waving as you walked away.
The peacock enclosure was certainly something to behold. It had a huge fountain and ornate fencing. You tried to wave the three peacocks over, but they refused to come to you. Remembering what Mr. Crowley had said about them being a little cocky, you sighed and opened the gate.
You carried the large plastic container over to them and, with a smile, you held out a salad to the closest one. The tall flamingo gave you a disdainful look, but took the salad all the same. The one with a bowl cut took his with a closed-eyed smile, “Merci, mademoiselle.”
French? You wondered where he had learned French and if he spoke any English. Moving on from that thought, you handed the last salad over to a slightly timid-looking, small and adorable lilac-haired peacock.
All of the peacocks had beautiful white feathers in a fan shape protruding from their backs. You couldn’t help but admire them, despite the way they didn’t seem all too interested in you.
“What are your names?” You asked.
The one with blond-to-lilac hair turned his back on you and walked away with his salad. The one with completely lilac hair merely offered you an “Epel” before following after him.
The one with a bowl cut placed a hand on his chest and, with a large smile, introduced himself, “I am Rook,” He pointed at the retreating back of the first peacock and said, “Vil”.
“Vil is his name?” You clarified. Rook nodded in response. You wondered if he knew more French than English.
Either way, you were done feeding them for the day, so it was on to studying them.

Hopeful Steward is a ray of sunshine with a smile permanently sewn on their face and empty eyes, lifeless grey hidden in a meadow in bloom. The greyest grey you may find.
you can read the fic here or below the cut. tw: mentions of death
Hopeful Steward is a ray of sunshine, a constant smile on their lips and a never-fading note of happiness in their voice. A kind word of encouragement in a world full of overzealous critics, a persevering protagonist in a tale of suffering and loss, a wildflower growing in the crack between stones.
Hopeful Steward is a rock, a foundation, a pillar without which the world around them would crumble. A hero who would never desist, never surrender, never stop walking even with their feet covered in blood.
Hopeful Steward is a ray of sunshine with a smile permanently sewn on their face and empty eyes, lifeless grey hidden in a meadow in bloom.
The greyest grey you may find.
Hopeful Steward is the sweetest and the strongest person in the village, yet they wake up in the middle of the night unable to breathe.
They find themself transported to barren lands, echoes of enemy soldiers’ screams in the distance and flickering blue and red lights in front of them, cold winds and muffled cries, tears streaming down their cheeks and a cold body pressed against their chest; and they know all of these things are but memories of times and people long gone, but in the darkness of the night they are unable to tell what is real and what is not.
Reality is a tricky thing.
Hopeful Steward goes to bed exhausted and gets up with an ever-present pain in their chest, but they have a colourful scarf and a gleeful smile bright enough to divert others’ attention from the dullness of their eyes.
Because there is no cure for remembering, and, despite all the attempts at blotting them out, the memories are still vivid in their mind. They have come to accept it, to a certain extent, after the countless nights spent hoping in vain.
Hopeful Steward is a ray of sunshine with completely empty eyes, and people sometimes look at them as if trying to understand. As if having understood already. They are careful with their words and study Hopeful Steward’s face for the smallest sign of discomfort, ready to change the topic, but Hopeful Steward always smiles and brushes it off. They do not need others to worry for them: they already have enough things to think about. Hopeful Steward must remain strong, even if it means losing a few hours of rest from time to time. A good night’s sleep is not a big sacrifice to make, not after what they have already lost.
“People say you’ve seen some stuff,” a child says and does not elaborate. The child has messy long hair, a smudged drawing on their cheek and a mischievous glint in their eyes, one their interlocutor lost a long time ago.
Hopeful Steward has met many children: tall and short, loud and quiet, careful and reckless. They are born at Dawn as stars sing in joy and disappear when the Storm comes to take back what belongs to it, and the bells of Aviary Village announce their arrival and their passing with the same melancholy.
These children seek new adventures and run amock, burning just like the flames inside them, laughing and crying and whatnot, and they dissolve into stardust when they feel they have seen everything they wanted.
They are ephemeral creatures, these children. But you should not expect winged beings not to flee.
Hopeful Steward has learnt not to cage them. They will break out either way.
“I have.”
The simple answer does not satisfy the child, and here they are flying away in a hurry. Places to see, things to do. One has little time to dawdle when they are young.
Hopeful Steward used to be young, too. But childhood is a privilege not all possess, and they have learnt to exist without it.
They look at the sky, their empty grey eyes fixed on the tiny figure gliding gracefully between clouds until it disappears.
They smile.
And let the child go.
#i know i wrote the damn thing but i got emotional damage from this *cries in the corner*#hopeful steward is such a mystery to me. love psychoanalising them though#the last line has Meanings and Implications btw#sky children of the light#sky cotl#runaway writes#hopeful steward

The prequel to Unleashing the Squirrels on La Rochejaquelein, aka a very historically accurate depiction of the Committee of Public Safety in October 1793 training Republican squirrels to be sent to Kléber in the Vendee.
(Yes... I just couldn't help myself! )
Obviously, Robespierre would be a natural at it. Admittedly, none of the biographies I own on him make any mention of squirrels in his life (1) (2), but he is known to have been an animal lover. His relationship with Brount is well-documented (and adorable). Plus, if his sister Charlotte is to be believed (3) "he was given pigeons and sparrows which he took great care of, and he often spent the moments not devoted to study with them" ("On lui avait donné des pigeons et des moineaux dont il avait le plus grand soin, et auprès desquels il venait souvent passer les moments qui n’étaient pas consacrés à l’étude").
Clearly, he was good with animals!
Robespierre & Pigeons Anecdote (TW: Sad Story / Extreme Animal Neglect)
To not completely waste your time with random stuff and add an educational touch to what basically amounts to shitposting, I'll add a well-known anecdote from Charlotte's Memoires (4):
Every Sunday, my sister and I were brought to be reunited with our two brothers (5). These were days of happiness and joy for us. My brother Maximilien, who collected pictures and engravings, would display his treasures and be delighted by our pleasure in looking at them.
He also showed us his aviary and, one by one, let us hold his sparrows and pigeons. We longed for him to give us one of his favourite birds. We pleaded with him, but he refused for a long time, fearing we would not take proper care of it. However, one day, he gave in to our requests and gave us a beautiful pigeon. My sister and I were enchanted.
He made us promise never to let it lack anything; we swore a thousand times and kept our promise for a few days. We would have always kept our oath, had unfortunate pigeon, forgotten by us in the garden, not died during a stormy night.
When he learned of its death, Maximilien’s tears flowed, and he overwhelmed us with fully deserved reproaches. He swore never to entrust any of his beloved pigeons to us again.
It has been sixty years since, through a child’s thoughtlessness, I caused my elder brother’s sorrow and tears; and yet, my heart still aches. It feels as if I haven’t aged a day since the tragic end of the poor pigeon deeply affected Maximilien, as I am still deeply affected by it myself.
Notes:
(1) What a huge oversight on the part of his biographers!
(2) Yes, I checked each and every one of them; no squirrels anywhere...
(3) And I do believe her... It would be a very weird thing to lie about
(4) This is my own translation. You can definetly find much better-sounding ones out there...
(5) After the death of their mother and abandonment of their father, the Robespierre siblings lived apart: the two girls, Charlotte and Henriette, were taken care of by the Robespierre aunts and Maximilien, and Augustin were raised by their maternal grandparents.

PLEASE infodump to me, how do we know for a fact the skiddo in the trailers and concert is the prince? I am starved for Alef lore
💫 HAYYY~~~~ 💫
I will GLADLY info dump about my favorite sky kids!!
SPOILER WARNING FOR ANYONE WHO HASNT COMPLETED AURORA!
Obligatory nothing is absolutely confirmed in sky unless stated by creators since there's no dialogue. So lots of stuff is always up to interpretation.
Howeverrrr the likelihood of Alef being the sky kid we see is essentially 99.9%!!
So here we go!!!
First thing to note is that the spirit from isle and the concert is totally the same Sky Kid. And we can tell thanks to MAMA Spirit! Or well- the adoptive mama spirit! More specifically... the adoptive mama spirit who unfortunately dies :(
One of the FIRST spirits in the game is a feminine looking ancestor with a relatively high pony tail, who discovers a fallen sky child (likely to be Alef)! This occurs in the Isle of Dawn!

Then, in the concert, we get a similar looking spirit ( high ponytail ) who ALSO took in a sky child-- who dies tragically :( leaving the sky child orphaned and alone.

Granted it is a different body type!!! But considering the amount of retcons and redesigns of areas / updates to the game around this time I'll look past it for now. But regardless, ponytail stays the same.
And of course lastly is our mama from the trailers with our Dawn Ember :(
Who is also wearing a bag on her shoulders like the aurora spirit (you can see the rope strap!)- and who also tragically loses her life as confirmed by TGC during the anniversary livestream. This can be found when they state it's the tale of two ORPHANS... implying our Dawn Ember does not have a guardian. Or at least not anymore. (Which also implies our Dusk Ember/The Stewards parents who gave him the butterfly pendant ALSO die, but that's for another time)
Something to note is that Sky Kids and ancestors are NOT the same race. They are completely different. Ancestors do have children!! But Sky Kids are a separate thing.
And they're rare.
Very rare.
So rare in fact that it's heavily believed by the fandom that Alef/Resh was the FIRST sky kid.
So the likelihood of two different pony tailed ancestors (who live in the Isle of Dawn AND who die tragically) adopting a sky kid is SUPER UNLIKELY!
So that's how we vaguely know it's the SAME Sky kid. BUT!! Most importantly, we know the Sky Kid is Alef forrrrr kinda shallow reasons, but they hold water!!! So it counts!!!
Which is basically to sayyyy... Dawn Ember is wearing a baby version of King Resh's mask.
So like- not the most GROUND BREAKING lore reveal. But---
Like-
Yeah,

That's our favorite star prince right there!
Also the implication that he got the extra four points AFTER prophecy, explains why as a kid he only has the main 4 points at the top and sides. Plus he already has suspiciously placed "cracks" in his mask where the 4 other points will come out of. That's our baby boy for sure!!!
Obviously, this isn't concrete proof of tgc just going HEY that's Alef!
However, for a game with zero dialogue and the most complex game of charades ever, this is basically as good as it's gonna get when it comes to tying everything together!
Also his name is Dawn.
Dawn Ember. For isle of Dawn. Which took me until 5 minutes ago to realize.
Which explains a lot, because we've all been kinda side eyeing the names like why tf did they name Hopeful Steward the Dusk Ember. But, if they're naming them off of AREAS and not literally the day/night motif that makes sense. Especially since a ton of Dusk Embers trailer scenes seem to take place in Wasteland, which the devs call the Dusk area. Despite him probably being from prairie or aviary village.
So badabing badaboom that's our baby boy right there!!! 3 different ways. 3 different flavors!!! All for the sake of mama spirit dying. Tragic. But that's our boy alrighttttt yayyy!!!!!!!!
Watch me be totally 100% wrong and all the fanart make zero sense a couple months from now. BUT IM DYING ON THIS HILL (for now!)
🎉🎉 That's our Prince right there!! 🎉🎉
#sorry this was LONG#and probably all over the place#but thats pretty much why we all believe its the same kid!!!#also Dusk Ember is hopeful steward because they literally called him The Steward during the anniversary livestream.#which im glad they did cause otherwise only their appearances are similar#which isnt always concrete proof#especially when people can reincarnate in this series#sobs#sky cotl#coatl ask#coatl rambles#sky children of the light#prince alef#king resh#dawn ember#does mama alef have a tag...? whats her name omg i FORGET WHATS HER EMOTE#USHERING STARGAZER#Thats her name!!#also awwww#his mamas name is Stargazer...?#stopppp thats so CUTE!!!!!!#NAHHH STOP I GENUINELY LOVE THATTT#stargazer was gifted a little star to take care offffff#NAHHHH IM GONNA BAWL SOBS
