me, watching the fellowship of the ring again: maybe if I think hard enough boromir won’t die this time

like the doctor ever has?

like eleven mentioned rose or martha or donna or the master even once?

clara already knew everything about the doctor but if he ever mentions regeneration or gallifrey or his previous companions or explains missy to bill then i don't remember it

martha and rose knew about each other and donna knew about both of them because they were intertwined in all of ten's seasons and kept reappearing and his era is like. comparatively short? like he has seven years. that's it. but still, he doesn't talk about jack, he doesn't talk about the time war or gallifrey or the master unless and until he absolutely has to

the doctor knows what they were like with and without their memories, charging straight into a new situation right after losing their last companion. they did that with martha and the whole point of the season is that it doesn't work. they can't do it. they can't move from one person to the next that quickly.

(amy and rory to clara doesn't count because clara was there before, donna to amy and rory doesn't count because there was time there in the specials before they regenerated)

they also know what they're like without that. they know there's a difference between how they were with bill, with all the memories of clara surgically removed and distanced, between how they are with enough time to grieve and then move on.

but she doesn't have time. thirteen lands and immediately makes new friends and starts traveling with them and they're fresh off losing bill, maybe two days before, and they don't have the time, and they don't want to replace her because that's not fair to her or to ryan yaz and graham, but the memories and the grief and the fault are there and not going anywhere.

so they jump between people and guns and talk fast and desperate and pleading instead of grand and sweeping and arrogant and they try to convince ryan and yaz and graham to stay instead of asking them along. and she doesn't focus on the past and she lives in the moment because they aren't ready to move on but they don't have a choice.

and yeah, they make it a plot point, and yeah she's forced to confront her past anyway and that's the point and maybe she should share that with her companions and rely on them instead of hiding it.

but it's hard to ask for help, and it's hard to let people know you're hurting and be honest with them. and the last times she got her companions involved with the master it ended horribly. so, you know, i think it makes sense.

Frustration was a feeling that Shin was used to feeling ever since she had laid her eyes on the Mandalorian padawan. She filled her thoughts, it used to be easy to turn them off and ignore them but that had become near possible now that she and the Mandalorian were on the same ship.

These thoughts kept her up at night as she stared at the ceiling of her sleeping quarters, the ceiling bored her to death and was of no help in making her fall asleep.

She's just itching to leave her bed and wander around Morgan's ship. "Wander around" would be the wrong term and she knew it, she knew exactly where she'd go.

She would go to the prison cells, walking past Sabine's cell. She'd check on her in the corner of her eye, the hood of her robe practically obstructing her vision before leaving as quickly as she came.

The relief that she would feel, knowing that she was there would only exasperate her even more. The Mandalorian, which she recently found out went by the name of Sabine, had become an obsession. An obsession that she wished to get rid off. Yet, there were these bubbling feelings below the thick layer of anger and hatred.

They barely overpowered the other emotions storming within her when it came to Sabine. Yet, they were powerful enough to make her think twice about getting rid of her for good.

These feelings made her intrigued in Sabine, made her want to know more about her. She could not wield the force but was a quick learner. Their last lightsaber battle proved it.

She hated feeling this conflicted. Things should either be black or white, not grey. She was an enemy, an obstacle in her way to power (as her Master had explained.)

Shin let out a heavy sigh before turning on her side, bringing the cover up to her shin and closing her eyes. She needed to sleep and if the Mandalorian were to follow her in her dreams then so be it.

It was nighttime and I caught a glimpse of you at some public place. We locked eyes and before we knew it we were nose to nose.

Next thing I remember we were in a bedroom, my lips on yours again and my fingers in your hair. Your arms latching around me, your hungry hands exploring my body. You inside me and us whispering delicious things to one another through hot breaths. Your face hovering over mine as I looked into those eyes I’ve missed. You caressing the side of my face…

As I opened my eyes and felt my heart ache again.

Albumtober Day 31: Hellfire

(Prompt: An album you tend to recommend to others)

Black Midi - Hellfire (2022)

A lot of people think rock music (or "guitar music") is dead, with the only exceptions (other than metal) being basic, uncreative, derivative acts like… i shan't say, but you know what kind of stuff I'm talking about. A lot of the people who say this have clearly never heard Black Midi.

Starting out as a noisy, mathy, post-punk-esque band, they quickly matured into a prog-rock dynamo following in the footsteps of King Crimson. Their third album, Hellfire, released in the summer of 2022, is exemplary, with startling dissonant riffs, calmer jazzy sections, moments of gentle acoustic guitar, and even elements of musical theatre. Guitarist and frontman Geordie Greep described Hellfire as an action film, and the album certainly is cinematic at times. It's loosely a concept album of sorts, with songs mentioning wrestling, war, murder, and Satan himself. A character named "Private Tristan Bongo" reoccurs in a couple of songs. It's certainly a lot less straightforward than classic rock operas like Tommy or The Wall, but Black Midi seem to like challenging their listeners. You'll probably never hear them on your local rock radio station, unless it's run by, like, art students or something. But if you're the kind of person who only listens to what's on the radio, you're missing out.

honestly just in general it's very exhausting to try to analyze media that is literally meant to be analyzed, only for the replies to be filled with people arguing not against your analysis, but against the premise that the media can be analyzed at all.

i don't even know what to say about it without starting to really betray my frustration, so i'll just settle with— just don't engage with analysis posts?
