alright so symbolism time! i really like giving characters a kind of soul animal slash fursona depending on how you look at it and uh. nolan's is absolutely a borzoi puppy.

not because they look cool (they do), but because of the borzoi breed was bred for wolf hunting. that alone has so much symbolism within nolan being groomed to take in the family smuggling business and being taught how to kill and fight etc, but it's also symbolic of just how ruined nolan is because of his past. the man craves physical affection and love through words, he desperately just wants someone to protect who'll look after him too, he's just like a puppy that wasn't given enough love. and since his breed was bred for wolf hunting it's even more sour as that's so fucking telling of what he's been taught on how to survive where he grew up. just. ughff.

Sorry, you've probably been asked this many times before.

But what do you do when no one in the fandom interacts positively with your fanfics.

Should I delete and move on.

They're reading the fics. Or someone is reading. The hit count is crazy high, the kudos count is 1 or 2. The fics themselves are not nsfw, not non con, not anything excessively beyond the violence in canon.

What they are, is they're about the supporting characters instead of the main couple.

There's been so many passive aggressive tumblr posts making fun of the canon characters I write for that I've stopped following the tags. There's been so much silence on my fics... I've never quite experienced that in any other fandom. There's a discord server for the fandom frequently mentioned in comments on other posts, that I've been clearly excluded from.

The only instances of interaction I've experienced have been negative. E.g. I included translations in one fic, and then received a public comment on my tumblr post telling me that one glyph in one line in the chapter's footnotes was wrong. Nothing about the writing in the chapter itself of course. Just this abrasive, 'you done fucked up loser' kind of tone.

For context, in my last fandom, my fics were popular. Hundreds of kudos, lovely interactions, fanart made of my OC and sent to me (!!absolutely floored me!!).

The current fandom is a small one, less than 600 fics in total on Ao3.

Do I push on.

Do I delete.

Why on earth would you delete?

And why do you assume you've been excluded from some discord instead of merely failing to be invited?

If the hit count is high, sure, maybe someone linked to them from somewhere, but maybe it's a bot or a glitch or who knows what. Even if someone did link and everyone's reading but not kudosing, so what? It probably just means they thought the headers were interesting enough to click on, side characters and all, but the fic didn't grab them.

If you want more interaction, it might make sense to go get into some other fandom for your next fic, but I don't see any reason to destroy what you've made in this one.

Introduction

In the early 1970's, comics legend Jack Kirby came back to DC with his most ambitious project to date. It was a grand story about a new generation of gods and their battle against a terrible evil, spanning across four separate titles: Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen, Mister Miracle, Forever People and New Gods. This tetralogy would quickly become known as The Fourth World, and many of its key players known as the New Gods.

Now, over 50 years later, these stories and characters still resonate deeply with fans of all kinds. So to celebrate the Fourth World saga and all its space opera glory, we bring you New Gods November!

This fan event runs from November 1st - November 28th, 2023. See below for the full schedule.

One of our goals is to make it comfortable to do as many or as few prompts as you please. The event is split into weeks, where each week has a bucket of five prompts to choose from. Participate by picking one per week, or get ambitious and pick several and do them daily! We only ask that when you post, you stick to the current or previous weeks and not jump ahead to a future week.

Another goal is to give people the freedom to create what they want. We've left the prompts fairly open to interpretation, and each week has enough variety to give a wide selection of characters to choose from. Just don't forget to mention somewhere in your post which prompt you picked!

Contributions of all kinds are welcome. From art and fics, to meta analyses and character playlists and beyond, anything is fair game since the format is entirely up to you! Thank you! Honestly, my current notes have this Third Transmigrator as not really being a fan at all, because I thought that would be the funniest third option to Airplane Bro (the author) and Peerless Cucumber (#1 anti-fan). Also, I thought it suited someone in the position of Mobei-Jun's parent, from the position of Mobei-Jun not knowing WTF is going on with Shang Qinghua EVER.

My dad has spent the past year or so reading a LOT of webtoons, manhuas, mangas, whatever, and so we've had a few conversations about xianxia and wuxia and harem and isekai stuff. He says that quite a few of them seem to be based on web novels.

So, I thought it would be funny if someone (probably an actual fan of PIDW) attempted to make a graphic novel for PIDW, then some English-speaking rando reads the unofficial English translation of the unofficial graphic novel for PIDW. There are probably only 30 chapters at most and ENG Rando didn't read the last 5 because they got bored when the harem stuff continued even inside the Abyss. Luo Binghe wasn't even the Demon Emperor yet. Mobei-Jun hasn't even shown up yet, except maybe in the bonus art at the back, and ENG Rando thought MBJ was the artist's OC or something.

(Also: Chapter 13 was just Chapter 12 posted twice to the shitty online manga website for some reason. Chapter 21 and Chapter 22 were posted in reverse order. And the translators changed like six different times. The second translator was really fond of not translating some basic nouns in favor of adding a billion footnotes. The third translator kept writing/typoing Luo Binghe as "Lou Bingo" and this lasted for 10 chapters. Chapter 8 was only translated into Spanish and so Google Translate was needed. These are the problems of a foreign webtoon reader.)

ENG Rando only read this because it was listed first on the "NEWEST UPDATES!!!" list and they liked the art. And then it started to be a Sunk Cost sort of thing. Then morbid curiosity.

ENG Rando transmigrates because they died in a car crash on the way to work or something, still thinking about PIDW. Even the System was not expecting this. Neither Airplane Bro nor Shen Yuan have transmigrated yet. ENG Rando gets a kind of crappy personal System until the Senior System can work things out, and maybe this Junior System isn't even fitted with a proper English Language pack for whatever reason, so ENG Rando and their Junior System have to communicate mostly through emojis.

ENG Rando is assigned the temporary role of "Beta 2". This is interpreted by some of the characters they meet as "Beida" (which is a fanon name used for Mobei-Jun sometimes, because it's a rival university to the one Shang Qinghua's name sounds like).

Later, when MBJ is forced to introduce SQH and maybe also SQQ (Shen Yuan) to his mother and the transmigration thing is known by all three transmigrators, Airplane Bro has to suffer his future mother-in-law saying about the unofficial graphic novel of PIDW in a heavy English accent: "I was worried that I was accidentally reading hentai. You wrote 20 million words of that?"

‹ 28, he/him, 😈 › — Hey, guys. I'm back yet again, looking for some long-term partners to write some dark and unhinged smut plots on Discord. Threads not for the faint of heart, threads that would lean very hard into themes of degradation and the like. Here's one plot of mine that could serve as an example.

"My guy finds this girl who's either fresh out of a break-up, or is lamenting over how she can't keep a man to save her life. Guys always use her for sex, and she can't - for the life of her - understand why they always leave her at some point in time. What she doesn't know, though, is that she's pretty easy to win over, and doesn't just attract the wrong kinds of guys, but also gravitates towards them. (Like, if she's paired up with a more soft-spoken and introverted guy, she loses interest pretty quickly.) It's an endless loop that keeps repeating itself, because she's either too naive to really learn her lesson… or too broken inside to really reach that point of recognizing the pattern. Like, maybe she feels like she needs a man in her life, because her sense of self-worth is so dangerously low. Anyway, my guy catches this girl at a low point, and initially presents himself as someone who wants to cheer her up, and give her the validation she needs… but then of course, it turns into him just fucking her brains out and calling her all sorts of names and shit, preying on her low self-esteem and such." And who knows, maybe this is just another footnote in this girl's life… or this is the straw that breaks the camel's back, where she feels like she can't afford to lose another man. Especially one like him, who 'gets' her.

This is just one idea, though. I have plenty of others, if you'd like to see them. As far as kinks go, I only draw the line at scat and bestiality. Everything else is pretty much on the table and up for discussion. And as far as muses go, I write dominant male OC's exclusively, looking to play against submissive female OC's. (I'm a bit picky when it comes to FC's, but that's another thing we can talk about while we're working things out.) If you're interested, go ahead and like this post.

Joey Drew is Gay and there's no way around it (Pt 2)

In Illusion of Living, Joey claims that he was the one who created Bendy. In reality, Henry was the one who ultimately put pen to paper and created Bendy, Boris and Alice. Again, there's possessiveness over Bendy here, but that isn't all. Remember when I said in the previous part that Joey viewed Bendy as his literal son? So, the funny thing about that is...Henry created Bendy...and from Joey's perspective, his son.

Henry created his son.

And even if that's still a reach, Henry created the entity that was one of the most important things in Joey's life-his muse, messenger, and avenue through which he communicated his stories and ideas to the world. (Basically, his favorite OC.)

Things start off pretty swimmingly in terms of their friendship.

Joey was the one who got Henry set up working at the bookstore. (Apparently he also found him more complex than he initially thought.)

Things only pick up steam from here. When Joey finally does see Henry's art, he seems to have a strong reaction.

Joey has a "lightbulb moment" at the sight of Henry's cartoony style. He doesn't stop at the art, though.

(Joey, did he tackle what was right in front of him, or did you just want him to tackle what was in front of him? Be honest, now.)

Notice Abby's reaction. She sees how quickly he gravitates towards Henry's art, and the man himself.

Henry also seems stunned to silence by the high praise Joey gives him, which is a fair reaction to being told he might chart the course of the rest of someone's life.

Notice how Joey can't explain why he had such a sudden fascination with cartoons, he just "felt" it.

Pardon my french, but Abby seems to either be worried that he’s thinking with his dick, or not thinking at all. (Probably both.) Despite Abby's reservations, when Joey keeps his insistence that he wants to get into cartoons, she knows Henry is the man for the job.

And her intuition about bringing them together as business partners paid off.

Henry co-founded the studio with Joey, and by all surrounding context we're given, Joey seemed to be perfectly content with this setup. That is, until their eventual falling out.

We don't know the nitty gritty specifics of their falling out, but we know a few things. For one, it was brutal, which Nathan helps confirm via footnote.

Secondly, we know Henry moved to California. That's all the way across the US. Thirdly, we know Henry had a wife, Linda.

So the guy that helped him actualize his dream, created his SON/favorite OC, and was probably his best friend at the time, fell out with him and moved all the way across the country with his wife (and assumedly didn't talk to him again.)

I would find it hard to believe that Joey was solely using Henry similar to what he did with Susie, because there are very curt admissions throughout Illusion of Living that he can't entirely erase Henry from the narrative, as badly as he wants to. Joey couldn't get Henry out of his mind. Of course he didn't treat Henry fairly, and of course Henry had every right to leave. But he had a strong connection to Henry whether he wanted to admit it or not.

There's no proof that he felt romantically about Henry. There is, however, proof that Joey wanted a family, viewed Bendy as his son, admits he still admired Henry after the fallout, and seemed perfectly content living out his wildest dreams with the man who, from his perspective, created HIS SON.

But we're not done yet. See, Henry is FAR from the only man who had a great deal of relevance in Joey's life.

A couple of Ockham mysteries I'm going to have to slowly puzzle out:

-Does the Greater Fingerking Polycule actually care that they lost their human/would they want himherthem back, or are they already on to the next adventure and this life-altering thing for Ockham was barely a footnote for them? -How did Ockham actually get hishertheir body back?

I imagine they must know... Ockham sets off like every viric Geiger counter in the waking world, but things get a bit more muddled in Parabola.

I see a couple of options here: either Ockham meets the congregation again and they do not care about their old toy at all, causing himherthem to have an existential crisis and have to find a new meaning to life. This could also go the way that Ockham narrowly escapes being consumed, but could also be that heshethey's already a husk as far as they're concerned and contains very few novel memories worth consuming.

Then there's "we want our B&B back" and Ockham's next arc is just, well, a Fingerking. I'm not sure how narratively satisfying I'd find that, but it could happen.

There's also the Poor Edward treatment: "Here's a bell, you too can be a dream snake. Have fun." and then Ockham's next arc becomes about trying to consume all that Is himhertheirself.

Whatever it is that happened probably came to a head during the Irem futures adventure, I just need to figure out what. But this did accidentally just birth another OC so I'm off to go flesh her out a bit.

Book time! This is On the Subject of Nests and Happiness by Nonesensed. I don't typically go for nesting fics, they tend to get a little silly for my taste, but this one is an old favorite. They put some very nice worldbuilding into it and I really liked their OCs, which is kinda unusual in fandom, at least for me. So I wanted to give it the book treatment, and it turned out really well! The cover is cardstock, with book cloth on the spine, neither of which were actually bought for this project but they looked so good together that I couldn't resist. The title is HTV and it was an absolute nightmare to get all those tiny letters to stick properly. Worth it, though. More pics under the cut!

Endpapers are scrapbook paper, also not bought for this book, but just. Look at them. They look so good. I had actually intended to make my own end bands on this project, but they fought me so hard that I gave up. And I already had these black-and-white checkered ones that matched, so it's not so bad. You can kinda notice my tendency to make covers too deep in this shot. I used to think that was a flaw but as I go on I'm kinda liking it. I get more wiggle room when casing in, and they feel nice when I read the books. View from the top shows how thick this one is. It's the longest word count I've done at this size and I want to do more like this. The textures and proportions make it very pleasant to hold.

Title page, first page of first chapter with summary, and first page of actual chapter text. All the images came from rawpixel with minimal manipulation on my part to make the one in the third photo. I don't like working with images, I've never been that kind of artist, but I do very much like how things turned out. It's got three chapters and they all have a first page with the wreath image and short summary, then the actual text of the chapter starts on the following page.

This fic has so many footnotes. More than any other fic I've set type for so far, and some of them are very long. I discovered in the process of formatting them that footnotes are a pain in the ass to typeset. Again, though: totally worth it, they look so good even if they do make the line spacing a little weird. I think a lot of my frustration with them comes from trying to make Word do things it was not intended to do. It won't stop me doing more footnote-heavy fics in the future, but at least now I have a better idea of what I'm getting into when I do them.

Fun thing about this: I waxed and burnished the cardstock before I attached the cover, and the last thing I did after casing in was the title. I have a cricut mini press, which is shaped like a tiny iron, and when I was pressing the HTV it left an iron-shaped dark patch on the front cover. Cue panic. It looked so stupid, and it was already cased in so I was stuck with it. I think what happened had to do with the wax coating? Thankfully, pressing it again all over (instead of just where the title is) covered up the dark patch, but the result is that the front is a slightly different color than the back. Whoops. I may go back later and press the back too, to get the color even, but for the moment I actually kinda like it? Shows me what I'm learning. Another fun fact, thankfully less visible than the last one: while I was making the cover, I gave myself the worst papercut ever while working with the cardstock. There was actual blood, and right on the tip of a finger on my dominant hand. I had a mark there for weeks.

I'm very proud of this one. That's probably why the post got so long and ramble-y, but I just keep coming back to it. Colors, textures, size, nice sharp groove where the spine connects to the front. I'm just really proud of it.
