Mmmm it’s been a hot minute with Lorcan. Miss that hunk of a male… and also you know that your requests are always welcome! ✨

Yeah, in Lorcan’s books babies and him don’t work together. Just can’t be in the same sentence. Shouldn’t be. So when you fall pregnant he is mortified. In awe of your body. With you growing a new life but so scared that he had something to do with that. It’s not about the responsibility. Not even about the fact that he doesn’t deserve it. But the idea of someone so small depending on him.

So when the little bundle of joy finally was born. Lorcan did everything but touched her. He was by your side. Bringing you things you might need. Things the baby might need. He laid by your side. Helped you hold the baby while you fed her. But he didn’t reach out to hold her. Lorcan watched her. Following her every move. The pattern of her breathing.

“You should do skin-to-skin with her”, you slowly set up, reaching for a glass. Lorcan was about to step in to help but you stopped him, “I can get that, you get our girl”. And it’s as if you had said something that had crumpled his whole world. “Lorcan”, you called out softly, “You can do it, my darling”. He swallowed thickly, turning to the crib.

“What is it? You’re having second thoughts?”, you said quietly and Lorcan instantly shakes his head. “I just, I’ve never held a baby”, he breathed out, “Plus, I don’t know how to be gentle”. You carefully got out of bed, slowly walking closer to the crib, “That’s not true. You hold me constantly and you are more than gentle”. He wanted to argue but you dipped slightly, picking up a still-sleeping babe.

“Sit down and relax”, you muttered, rocking the girl in your arms. “I can drop her”, he argued back. “You’re sitting down, my love”, you reassured him. “Squeeze her”, “All you’ll have to do is put your palm on her back”, but his body still looked ridged. “What if she observes all of my dirty… I haven’t showered, yes”, Lorcan was about to jump up when you pressed your palm to his shoulder, “You love her a lot that’s why you’re panicking but it’s okay, she is tougher then you think she is”, you smiled down at him, cupping his cheek, before reaching to hand him the little girl.

“Y/n”, he said in a way higher pitch, enough to make the girl frown slightly in her sleep. Distance him and leave him no other way around holding her. “You also should breathe, baby, your lungs are working”, you laughed slightly at him all panicked like that. “What if…”, he started but you quickly cut him off, “Look at that little smile”, Lorcan looked down quickly. And it was true her chubby cheek was squished against his chest, a lazy smile on her face as her tiny palm pressed against her chin.

“I think she’s excited that daddy finally showed up”, you brushed your fingers through his hair. As if on cue she let out a satisfied sigh, earning a slight chuckle from Lorcan. “All this time she was fusing around because she was looking for you”, you watched his eyes soften as Lorcan carefully brushed his finger over her cheeks. “It’s really… Calming”, he muttered. “To hold her?”, you asked softly sitting down by his side as you rested your head on his arm. “Yeah, she’s so warm and so soft”, Lorcan mussed, “I don’t want to let her go”, “Good because I doubt she wants to be apart from you”.

SFW ALPHABET: NORA AND LORCAN

A = Affection (How affectionate are they? How do they show affection?): Nora is the one who initiate it the most, as Lorcan is more of a follower. If he knows Nora is okay with it, he’ll reciprocate. In public, hand holding is a common thing for both of them but, as Nora can get easily flustered (not that Lorcan loves to use this fact when they are in private), it often stops at that, with the exception of a few stolen kisses from each other once in a while. In private, the affection can include cuddling, hugs and kisses more freely.

B = Best friend (What would they be like as a best friend? How would the friendship start?): It’s the « two different ways of life but still end up being able to learn from each other » kind of friendship. It does fit, as both do care about each other, especially as their different realities sometimes make them worry about each other. There’s a lot of caring but also a big interest on learning about each other’s life.

C = Cuddles (Do they like to cuddle? How would they cuddle?): They do! Sometimes, if it’s more passive, it can be one of them cuddling the other while the other do something else (painting, reading, etc). It can also be more of a cuddle session if needed, more often than not both of them facing each other, Nora’s head resting on Lorcan’s chest as he wrap his arms around them. But these are more often reserved on bad or exhausting days.

D = Domestic (Do they want to settle down? How are they at cooking and cleaning?): Absolutely! As time passed, both of them accepted that they would most probably marry each other at some point. For cooking and cleaning, they complete each other. Nora is used to clean the house and her shop so she has no trouble taking care of it. That said, cooking is not something she’s good at, especially for complicated food. For Lorcan, he learned how to make food for himself when he was younger and now make sure he can have balanced meals. He has no trouble to share with Nora and make sure she eats well too.

E = Ending (If they had to break up with their partner, how would they do it?): It would be done in a mutual way, after a long discussion and after accepting that nothing can be fixed. It would break both of their heart but if it was for the best, they would do it. They would still stay friend as they still care for each other and it wouldn’t be that much awkward. Chances are they would get back together after a few times apart though as they got used to have each other in their life and couldn’t imagine it with someone else.

F = Fiance(e) (How do they feel about commitment? How quick would they want to get married?): It took them a while but they eventually got there. With times, it was clear that this was going to be a committed relationship, that they were each other’s person. The whole relationship was started in a long-term way, in a « I see myself with that person for a long time » so it was not hard to consider getting married after a while. It would take a few years as both of them wanted to fix their life and issues before that but give or take 3-4 years and marriage would probably happen at that point.

G = Gentle (How gentle are they, both physically and emotionally?): With Lorcan’s job, it’s a bit uncanny to see how gentle he can be. He tries his best not to raise his voice. He still tease his partner and play fight with them, but also never get too rough to make them scared. That also translate during fights. Fights are rarely with yells, the farthest he’ll go is use some sarcasm and snarky comments but they would be apologized about quickly and the situation would be dealt with as soon as possible. Nora is gentle as well in the relationship but can be a little rougher as she knows she can get away with it, playing fight or starting pillow fights without much consequences. She does get a little bit tougher emotionally, sometimes lashing out when she got too much on her plate. She does apologize for it quickly though and make sure to never fix fights when angry, not putting her frustration on her partner.

H = Hugs (Do they like hugs? How often do they do it? What are their hugs like?): They do like hugs! It’s something done more in a natural and casual way, it’s never asked, it’s just done. For Lorcan, his go-to is a classic back hug, when he wants either attention or just as a way to make his presence known, when Nora is painting for example. His hugs are done in a soft way, not too tight but enough to still be warm and still make his presence clearly known. For Nora, hugs are done after not being able to see Lorcan for a while or for comfort. While a back hug, tight but not bone-crushing, is reserved for reunion, it’ll be a side-hug, a bit loose, she’ll go for comfort or attention. It’ll become tighter after Lorcan wraps her arm around her, getting her closer to him.

I = I love you (How fast do they say the L-word?): It’s said in the first year of the relationship, after a few months of dating. It’s said in their head a lot way before though. Lorcan is the one who said it first, followed by Nora right after. It’s said on a random day, where both of them are not talking, her with her head on his lap as she reads, him reading as well, seated on the sofa, as he took a moment to just watch her being so peaceful with him. Nora says it back, with red cheeks and a giggle. It’s soft, it’s full of love and realization that all of this is exactly where they want to be.

J = Jealousy (How jealous do they get? What do they do when they’re jealous?): Jealousy is not frequent between both of them but it does happens once in a while. As it used to create disagreements between the two of us at the start of the relationship, both of them agreed to speak about it when it happens, which is met with understanding and reassurance whenever it is spoken about.

K = Kisses (What are their kisses like? Where do they like to kiss their partner? Where do they like to be kissed?): Kisses are more frequent than hugs for both of them. Kisses after a work day are a must between them and it’s a good way to sneakily give each other affection in public. For Lorcan, kisses on the head, behind the head and on the neck are his favourites. For Nora, cheek kisses, nose kisses and neck kisses are their go-to. Makeout session happens once in a while, but they are done slowly and softly, taking their time (even if Nora would love it to be sped up a bit, at Lorcan’s amusement.)

L = Little ones (How are they around children?): Lorcan is amazing with children. He has grow up with a little brother that he helped take care off so he already has this instinct with children. Even now, he knows he want at least one child of his own. For Nora, as she grew up with a little sister, she knows how to take care of children. That said, with the trauma she had, she isn’t sure about children. She would be okay with one of their own but if she could adopt for the others, she would rather do that.

M = Morning (How are mornings spent with them?): Mornings are a part of their routine at this point. They wake up not so long after the other. After a small cuddle session, they either spend time in their pajamas, Lorcan making breakfast before they eta together, get ready and go to work. That said, once in a while, they get ready and go eat breakfast at the coffeeshop they both met at before work.

N = Night (How are nights spent with them?): Nora is the first to arrive home so they make are that the house is clean if it’s becoming a mess. Lorcan is responsible for dinner (after both of them got their « happy to see you » kiss). After that, they sometimes go on dates, being a walk or anything else or they can also just stay at their place. In that case, more often than not, Nora is painting or drawing and Lorcan is reading something, both of them close to each other. They don’t go to sleep that late, unless if they want to finish what they started. They get ready together before going to bed and cuddle themselves to sleep.

O = Open (When would they start revealing things about themselves? Do they say everything all at once or wait a while to reveal things slowly?): As partners, Lorcan makes sure that he’s an open book. If you ask, he’ll answer. Even if it’s uncomfortable. In that case, he’ll take the time to sit down and talk properly about it to make sure it’s as clear as it can be and that there can’t be any misinterpretation. He values honesty in a relationship and, as much as he might not reveal it all, as he doesn’t judge everything pertinent to be mentioned, he will never turn down a conversation if the answer is important for his partner. For Nora, you might have to ask a bit more about her life as what she had to deal with is a lot. That said, with the right person, Lorcan in that case, she can get to open up after a while. She does need to be with someone she trust a lot and knows will try to understand her, which Lorcan did and accept.

P = Patience (How easily angered are they?): Nora is a bit more impatient than Lorcan but they are pretty patient themselves and don’t get mad easily. For Lorcan, they’re most likely going to get mad if Nora is not taking care of themselves or if they had a couple rough days and didn’t had time to deal with the high emotions he’s feeling. He is, that said, quick to apologize and to express calmly his emotions. For Nora, as much as she also gets mad when Lorcan doesn’t take care of himself, she’ll most likely get angry if people keep not respecting their boundaries. More often than not, Lorcan do his best to not cross them but mistakes can happen. A good discussion and a reminder usually fix the problem.

Q = Quizzes (How much would they remember about their partner? Do they remember every little detail they mention in passing, or do they kind of forget everything?): Lorcan tends to forget details but he’s also the type to note it down if he knows he should remind it. He has a notebook where details about Nora are written down in and he has it with him almost anywhere he goes. He thinks Nora is not aware of it but she eventually figured it out. For Nora, she remembers these details, especially when it’s someone she cares about a lot. Being from what makes him angry to their coffee order, she has it in her mind and don’t forget it.

R = Remember (What is their favorite moment in their relationship?): They both enjoy their relationship as a whole, every moment between each other being something sweet and securing for both of them. That said, for Nora, it was after a picnic and a walk with Lorcan. It was after a few months of dating, both of them talking about anything and everything, having deep talks and figuring out how they both see the world. What made it more special was the way she felt understood and respected and the way how the sunset light fell on Lorcan and how everything was beautiful and how it just fell right. It’s also the day she realized she would probably spend the rest of her life with him. For Lorcan, it was the first time she offered to draw him. How attentive she was, making sure he wouldn’t get bored by talking about everything , how she would look at him so focused, yet with so much love and how she would do everything in her power to make sure he would also have a good time. What made it better was the end result and Lorcan’s realization on how she saw him, with the way she drew him. It made him fall even more in love with her.

S = Security (How protective are they? How would they protect their partner? How would they like to be protected?): Lorcan is a lot more protective than Nora as he has seen how horrible people interact with people, especially with women and female at birth by the fact he had to intervene a few times about this and so have his colleagues. He knows the reality of it, even if he knows it could be worse elsewhere. Also, he has to keep some of the soldiers in check as the one who doesn’t know that they’re with him sometimes take their chances. As much as he knows that Nora can easily defend herself, he can’t help but take the matter into his hands sometimes. For Nora, she can be protective as a reminder that Lorcan is with her, sometimes tugging on their sleeves in public spaces if she sees other girls staring at him for too long. She can also be, more in a nagging way, when he gets hurts after a mission. She does know that he can fight and does not need protection but hey, if she can, once in a while, use her magic to make sure nothing happens to him, it doesn’t hurt anyone, does it?

T = Try (How much effort would they put into dates, anniversaries, gifts, everyday tasks?): Anniversaries and special occasions are done with lots of efforts, with flowers, special gifts and a choice of activity that is unusual for them. It’s not something that happens all of the time so it’s celebrated in a special way, making sure that both of them feels like that it’s not a regular thing, that it’s special for both of them. For dates, it does depends as it is planned in the schedule they have but, as it’s often the same type of dates, preparations are not always necessary. For gifts, they both are the type to buy things that makes them think of the other one so they can be a regular thing. For everyday tasks, it’s once again a routine thing, it is done automatically for both of them.

U = Ugly (What would be some bad habits of theirs?): For Lorcan, it is his perfectionism. He is the kind of person who needs things to be perfect if he is doing something. He doesn’t care if it’s anyone else and if it’s not done in his way if he’s not the one who does it. But if it’s done by him? It better be as perfect as it can be. For Nora, it is her way to push everything at the last minute. Things get done but very erratically as there’s often not much time for her to do the thing. Also, both of them have the bad habit to not always take care of themselves, yet getting mad at each other for not taking care of themselves.

V = Vanity (How concerned are they with their looks?): Honestly,not much. For their jobs, they have to look presentable as they will be in contact with other people and they cannot look like they don’t care about how they look. That said, at the second they both are together, out of the public eye, they get comfortable pretty quickly.

W = Whole (Would they feel incomplete without you?): They are both aware that they are their own person and do not need the other to survive. That said, perhaps they wouldn’t feel incomplete, but both of them became used to the other. Their routine, their schedule and everything is done to fit with the other and they are more than happy to keep their life like this, so why bother changing it up?

X = Xtra (A random headcanon for them.): When they first moved with each other, Lorcan had a cat he wasn’t willing to get rid of. Nora, for her part, had an owl. They had to spend weeks to prepare the meetings between the two animals so it would go well. Their two pets now get along just fine now.

Y = Yuck (What are some things they wouldn’t like, either in general or in a partner?): For Lorcan, someone who wouldn’t be willing to understand them and meet them halfway when needed would be something that he wouldn’t go after. For Nora, as much as they agree with Lorcan, a person who couldn’t understand that she needs her own bubble would be an instant no from her.

Z = Zzz (What is a sleep habits of theirs?): For Lorcan, it’s that he has to be the last one to fall asleep. If Nora is not asleep, he is trying his best to stay awake, making sure that she sleeps okay before allowing himself to go to sleep. For Nora, it’s that, unconsciously, when Lorcan joins on the bed if she’s asleep, she’ll reach for him in her sleep, which Lorcan finds very cute.

Part II

The light we cannot see

You were the only source of light in life that Lorcan had. He had given up on life, on the right thing, on the fact that there could be good things gracing this land. But every time the last drop of light was threatened to be snuffed out, you brought it back. You held onto it with both hands. Your love was what kept him fighting. What kept him getting out of bed. His little dark-haired sister. A promise of danger with the kindness of heart.

“Anyone’s up for seconds?”, your voice fills the side dining room, pot slung on your hip as you strolled in. Maeve as much as she used them wasn’t the dine-with-me type so even her closest ate away from her chambers. “When they are coming from your hands, always”, Fenrys chirped, “I would eat poison from you”, he throws you a wink as you scoop another portion of stew into his bowl while rolling your eyes. “Careful, dreams come true”, Lorcan grunted, eyes fixed on the white wolf. Whose purpose in life seemed to be pissing Lorcan off. “I can shove it down your throat”, the table grew still, the threats didn’t surprise anyone by now but Lorcan’s sharp tone still made everyone halt. “Just joking, man. Y/n tell him that I’ve been behaving”, Fenrys pleaded making you chuckle, “I don’t know, have you?” The table echoed with laughter. “Don’t push me into the flames, love”, the white wolf clenched at his heart before turning his attention back to his food. But it was your hand that Lorcan’s eyes fell on. How it lingered on Rowan’s shoulders as you walked past him. How Rowan looked up. A strange sort of longing burning in his gaze. Lorcan lowered his spoon. Assessing eyes drinking you both in. And here it was the quickly shared looks, the slight nods. It couldn’t possibly be…

The rules applied to everyone. No one could come close to you. He wouldn’t allow it. They were all murderers. All were chained to a sadist who was willing and ready to do anything to break them. You were already hung up in front of him. You were already in danger because you shared blood with him and Lorcan hated himself for it. But to add another target on your back. To chain you to another person. To give her a reason to flung you around like a makeshift weapon. No, he wasn’t gonna allow it.

“You know you might just stare straight through the door if you keep glaring at it so hard”, Gabriel’s voice filled Lorcan’s ears as he blinked. He hadn’t even realized that he had zoned out. That you had left the room. “Have you…”, he cuts himself off, debating slightly as if he could voice his inner monologue, “Have you seen anything suspicious lately?” The older male shoots the darkness wielder a look. “As in threats in the city? No, it’s been calm down there”, Gavriel dabs at his lips with a napkin. Lorcan shakes his head, “Here, in the house. Have you noticed things… shifting”. “Lorcan be straight with it”, Gavriel states firmly, “You train Y/n, have you noticed anything strange”, he’s not sure why he stirs the conversation there but that’s where his mind takes him, and now that he’s grasping at nothing, he can use any detail.

“I wouldn’t be able to tell you”, the lion shrugs, making Lorcan shoot him a look of his own. “Maeve, shifting my guard times, Rowan is training with Y/n now. From what I’ve heard it’s going great”, he says it so casually as if he doesn’t seem to grasp the importance of the information he just shared. Not to mention that with everyone still being mid-meal Rowan gets up, waffling something about refilling the wine jugs. “I bet it is”, Lorcan watches him leave, “I bet it’s going wonderfully”, clamping his jaw he manages to take five breaths before he’s pushing his chair back.

A big part of him is hoping he would see just that. Just Rowan filling up the jugs. With you far away from him. He thinks about striding in. Making a big scene. But he halts, turning to the side pantry instead. Cracking the door ajar ever so slightly. “I can’t stay for long, too many men in the main hall”, Rowan mutters, brushing a strand of your black hair away and off your shoulders. “I was promised a night together”, you muse crossing your arms over your chest. “And I will keep my promise. Have I given you reason to doubt my promises before”, Rowan steps forward, a smile on his face. Your hands snake around his neck as you pull him in closer. “Maybe I need a reminder”, you hum, the mischievous eyes gleaming. “Is that so?”, Rowan tries to hide his smirk as he leans closer, “Let me remind you then”.

But his lips never meet yours and when you open your eyes it’s to him being pushed to the other side of the kitchen. “Lorcan”, you rasp out, moving to get closer to your older brother. Who had smashed a jug on his way, its shard now pressing against Rowan’s throat. “You lying filthy bastard”, he grits through his teeth, “The silent pig does dig the sweetest of crops, doesn’t it”. But Rowan’s gaze doesn’t falter. “Lor, I can explain”, you tug at his arm, “This doesn’t have to be this way”, you plead.

“What happened to us not having secrets, hmm?”, his angry gaze crashes into you. “I was gonna tell you”, you whine, “I was, I just didn’t want…”, “When”, he cuts you off, “Tell me when? when he screwed you pregnant and left you by some in to venture for yourself?”, his words make you stagger back. You can see the regret painting his features. But it was too late the words had met their mark. “Yn”, Lorcan breathes out, pushing off Rowan as he turns to you. You shake him off, moving across the kitchen. “I didn’t…”, “Save it. I heard you loud and clear”, you bite back, “I’m honored that you think so highly of your family”, you pull your apron off, throwing it on the table before yanking the patio door open. “Nice one”, Rowan chuckles bitterly from behind him, “You know, for someone who swore to protect her, you’re doing mighty shit work”. The males come face to face. And for the first time in a while, Lorcan realizes that maybe he doesn’t know the soldier fighting alongside him. “I should crush you beneath my feet”, Lorcan growls. “By all means”, Rowan is quick to stand even taller, “Just then you might find yourself utterly lonely in this bleak world”. His words jab Lorcan harder than any blade could. “Now if you excuse me, I have a crying partner to console, her brother is a jackass”, and with that he’s pushing past Lorcan, hitting his shoulder as he moves forward. Leaving Lorcan to stand on his own.

So I finally have something to share… It’s not much but I’ll probably be able to post it all soon!

Dear diary,

I have met someone. Well, more like noticed someone. I was just trying to find the best place to get coffee before having to go work at the castle. It’s not been long I’ve been here and it’s been a few people recommending this coffeeshop. That’s all. I promise. But seems like my day couldn’t start as it was supposed to be. I saw her from the corner of my eye while I waited in line. I was looking around, just trying to look at the decorations around. She was in a corner, you really had to look to notice her. But when I did… I couldn’t stop looking at her. She seemed so stuck in her world, drawing something, a cup at her side and a half-eaten pancakes on the other. It seemed like nothing could be bothering her at that moment. I don’t know why this left me so curious. Perhaps I’m not used to all of this calm energy. I had to leave after getting my coffee, being late was not an option. But I do think I’ll be back. Who knows, I might be able to try talking to her.

PS: Coffee was 4.5 out of 5, which is the best score yet. Seems like I have another reason to come back.
