+summarys of their relationships:

Saturn/Eight- besties ngl, and it’s perfect. Saturn prevents Ember from doing something hazardous such as trying to feed the salmonids during a big run, and Ember makes sure Saturn has time to cool off when she gets frustrated :D

Rook/Neo 3- it’s… well… Rook is a spiraling pessimist, and Ember is a toxically positive optimist (bonjour la issues de la mama, Ember), so needless to say they often clash. But, at the end of the day, they can complete a mission together with precision and speed.

“Sunny”/Captain 3- Lowkey parallel opposites. Sunny prefers checking in to show she cares, Ember prefers platonic physical affection (or giving gifts if the person doesn’t like touch). With Ember, Sunny was initially intimidated by Ember’s personality, and Ember was intimidated by Sunny because… well.. yeah. Anyway, etc etc etc… Very good friends tho.

Rook - (Nemesis) - Under the Cut is the reasons why I named him this, as I name all my FL OC's after birds in a way. He insists that he named himself NOT after the chess piece, and I encourage you to continue making chess jokes.

A highly intelligent bird who symbolizes an omen (whether or not they are a good omen or bad omen is up to you) The omen depends on context. For example, rooks deserting their rookery is a sign of ill fortune for the family nearby.

Nobles tend to like them because them nesting nearby is a sign of the family being of good character.

They are often seen with jackdaws (a type of smaller Corvid) which in this case are the Urchins, as he's a good ally, and he tries to be an older brother figure to them

Rooks, like Rook are considered pests. Nothing can deter the rook once it realizes there will be no true harm. You will have to kill him to stop him.

Juvenile rooks are often hunted. HMMM.

More dnd writing because it's all I have but I here's a snippet from a vignette I did of Rook's past (from Zara's POV), because Rook and his mentors never fails to make me sick (/pos).

Taking a coin out of her pocket, she rolled it across her knuckles, back and forth. It gave her hands something to do, and prevented the urge to bite her nails, something she hadn’t done in years. Ten minutes passed, then twenty. Zara began to pace as Rook’s breathing grew shakier and the color drained from his skin. Where the hells is Jay? she wondered. The room was so quiet that she could hear every tick of the small clock on her bedside table, and each one echoed in her head. How many ticks does he have left? She didn’t want to think about it.  She’d had crew members die before, of course. You don’t go as many years as a captain as she had and never lose a soul. But all the others who had died had died quickly, in combat. She’d mourned for all of them, even shed tears in private, but there was something different about watching the life drain out of a person right in front of your eyes.
