You know I was at first a little hesitant on Chadok and Dika being a thing because I thought it would be used as an excuse for all the terrible things he’s said and done as an authority figure to the whole school and specifically to Akk (and I guess we’ll see the extent of any sort of “redemption” next week), but then it clicked how vital this is for Akk’s perspective on the situation.
We’ve seen how viciously hard Akk is on himself after everything he’s done in enforcing the Suppalo Curse, refusing to shift blame onto anyone else for his actions even when he very much was pressured into it. That pressure was specifically put on him by Chadok, someone who Akk has respected and mostly feared in the past. When it’s framed as how we all saw it, a student being used as a weapon against his peers by an adult in power, Akk never acknowledges that Chadok was the one influencing him, first out of refusal to admit to the school’s wrongdoings and then out of a self-hating sense of responsibility for his own choices to hurt people. He announces that he was the only one doing the curse without any backing when he’s outed in front of the school not to protect Chadok, but because he feels that he alone should be punished.
Before going into this meeting Akk is thoroughly beaten down and meek, terrified and ashamed of what he’s done and how his friends will see him now. Then the framing shifts, the story of Chadok and Dika is revealed, with Chadok suddenly the meek and ashamed one, and Akk’s demeanor changes. After the story he is standing straighter and he says resolutely to Chadok:
He sees it now. He sees the unfair rules and traditions being used to scare and control people. He sees how higher authorities forced Chadok to submit to it, how he then forced Akk to submit to it, how Akk was forcing the other students to submit to it. How this is a terrible system that is truly only upheld through the fear and shame they instill into the people that would rise against it.
Akk is not absolving himself (or hopefully Chadok), but it’s like a weight has been lifted from his shoulders. By seeing Chadok in the same position he has been in, a position for him that had been enforced by Chadok in the past, Akk is truly able to see how this system manipulates its dissenters into doing its dirty work for it, into hurting themselves and others for it, and he’s able to see, among other things, how ridiculous that is and that he can choose to walk away from it.

the curse of adhd:
i will remember with absolute clarity, when the thought strikes me that i have a text to send someone, that this is the fourth time in three days i've attempted to send this specific text
i will forget, in the time it takes me to pick up my phone, that i picked it up intending to send a text

Y'all have gotta get more insane about platonic relationships like you are about romantic relationships. We need to get more annoying about them NOW. I need to see more meta and losing our minds over them. Get more annoying NOW. More than that. More than that also.

"life doesnt get better, you just get stronger" does NOT include ages 11-17. life does in fact just get better from there. those years are dogshit. like, you do get stronger but its mostly just a factor of not being 11-17 anymore. positive thinking helps but it doesnt fix whatevers going on at 15, you have to brute force through that one raw
