What My Followers Want to See More of in Female Characters

My favorite thing in my WIP is all the badass female characters I have. I love writing about the bonds, friendships, relationships, and rivalries between them. It makes my little heart so happy! And, I will be the first person to admit that I hadn’t even thought of some of the things you guys suggested on our little instagram poll, but I cannot wait to add some of them to my story! Even though we’ve made so many leaps and bounds with the way female characters are portrayed, I still think we’ve got a long way to go, and if you guys include half of the stuff you suggested in your stories, then I think we’re gonna be okay. Once again, I didn’t change anything that you guys wrote, so there are gonna be some repeats on the list, but this time just because the list was getting so long, I did take out a few things if I saw that several other people had suggested it!

“Nerdy” or sporty girl who gets a love interest without a makeover or changing herself 

super girly femme characters shown as a complex person

making her own decisions, if good or bad

a strong female character without a tragic backstory 

gender non conformity!! 

Being openly children and not changing her mind about it

chubby and flaws and not having a crush with every cute boy they see 

girlie girls who are still really powerful 

self reliance but still having emotion, not being ice cold but not needing a a man 

lesbians who’s entire character arc isn’t about them being a lesbian 

having body insecurities eg wanting to be flat-chested

women in politics and women that have classic “man” as well as “woman” characteristics

less insecurities. Yes, we all have those, but it’s becoming stereotypical, mostly in YA

strong women who don’t discredit the model of the ideal woman of the time in historical fiction 

older women protagonists! I’d love to read about middle aged female heroes

females that aren’t afraid to be themselves 

strength without being a “baddie” or at the expense of others 

emotional sensitivity that isn’t linked to mental illness, men, or a weakness in character

This is probably gonna sound mega-stupid, and also long lmao, but I just finished the final route for Dialtown, and once again, I'm astonished by your work's ability to draw me in with funny, absurd characters and then also smack me in the face a little with emotions.

Also, Norm? Holy shit, I was not expecting to genuinely get attached to him, but man, he's there and involved throughout the entirety of chapter 3 and I still would've liked more time with him. Which is funny, because the moment I got a glimpse of him I was mildly-to-mediumly concerned. Internalized fear of people who willingly wear american flags, I guess- part of me was afraid his entire character would end up being someone with antiquated views who just... engaged in " 'murica " behaviour the entire time and made me want to hurl him into a pit. AAAnd instead he's absolutely my favourite now. Shoutout to him, he'd definitely respect my pronouns but would also probably simultaneously find me insane.

Not to mention, Karen my beloved <3 her route ended up likely being my second favourite overall, I absolutely adore her nonchalance in the face of things most people would find startlingly bizarre and her love for horses was incredibly endearing. I could go on about how I relate to her as well, but for simplicity's sake: thanks for the amazing autistic representation, and just a generally rad character.

For the sake of at least trying to be brief, I'll cap it there, but long story short: Thanks for an awesome game, and enough compelling characters and plot ideas to keep my literary-analysis loving ass things to pick apart for the foreseeable future. I'm going to draw the space cowboy now.

Internalized fear of people who willingly wear american flags, I guess- part of me was afraid his entire character would end up being someone with antiquated views who just... engaged in " 'murica " behaviour

Thanks! I did want him to spout economically conservative/somewhat libertarian views because I felt the juxtaposition of him against the generally 21st century modern soulless neo-liberal feel of DT's current environment would be pretty funny, a secondary unstated clash. BUT, I didn't want Norm's character to come down to "oh, nobody likes him because he has socially backwards views." (There's no nuance in that and it's not FUN.) So, Norm is open-minded enough in a 'you respect me and I''ll respect you' kinda way, he's just also... y'know, a literal cowboy, and operates via frontier rules in his head. So, I decided to make Norm more of a Barry Goldwater-esque Libertarian, someone who broke ties with his own party to defend gay soldiers + abortion. I actually made Norm come from Arizona as a reference to him. Both were also air-force. Oh, the dude also lost the presidential race in 1964 by a LANDSLIDE. Epic fail.

Basically, I wanted Norm to be someone who had integrity and offered a completely different (but not invalid/draconian) view to the kinda oligarchy that has Dialtown under its spell. I don't agree with Norm's economic views to be clear, and he's a lil more embarrassingly patriotic than I'd be, BUT: I'd trust him to act and vote with his conscience and I'd value him as a friend/neighbour. Plus, also, y'know, again: Open-minded with others. That's key.

I could go on about how I relate to her as well, but for simplicity's sake: thanks for the amazing autistic representation, and just a generally rad character.

Thanks! Karen was born partly out of my own dislike for really formulaic autism descriptions. I mean, unlike what most autism rep on TV'd have you believe, autistic folks are scientists, programmers or mathematicians only. I wanted to depict an autistic artist, because I know a lot of autistic artists. Also, her misophonia is depicted in a fairly realistic way imo. Also, the fact that despite Karen not getting 'new' idioms, she can use ones she's learned herself, while also being frustrated with them for being so initially confusing. Yeah, no, I'm just happy that I managed to depict something that people find realistic/validating :)

Summary: Spencer & Luke are not out as a couple but have to attend the same FBI gala where a young, pretty agent insists on flirting with Luke. Misunderstandings and surprising reveals ensue.

Lets pretend I didn't just disappear for a couple of weeks bc I'm BACK now yay! This is written for a prompt from @ralvezhq who asked: "Ralvez is already dating but no one knows about them yet. they get invited to some sort of FBI gala and a young, accomplished female agent won’t stop flirting with luke and spencer is absolutely not having it so he finds a way to let everyone know they are together." -- I stuck to it except that they're caught rather than willingly confessing, I hope that's okay! I really enjoyed this one, so I hope you do as well.

!!!TW: the woman is very insistent on her flirting and makes Luke uncomfortable when she touches his chest without his consent!!!

“Any particular reason you keep looking over at that table full of Fugitive Task Force members, Spence?” JJ asks amusedly, sipping from her wine glass.

“Mm, I’ve noticed you looking over there a little bit,” Tara muses. “You got your eye on someone?”

Spencer looks down and forces a laugh, but he can feel the tips of his ears turning pink, and knows that he’s not gonna hear the end of this for the rest of the night. The team have never been fond of the FBI Galas they’re forced into attending every year, and unfortunately, Hotch’s usual stunt of pulling a non-urgent case from the stack and jetting off to some far-flung corner of the country to avoid it failed to fool the director this time.

He’d broken the news to them at the start of the week, and conversation in the bullpen has pretty much exclusively revolved around the event ever since. Even Penelope, who loves seeing people win awards and dressing up in her favourite full-glam outfits, has been significantly less upbeat. She only gave him one spontaneous hug all week.

None of them, though, have been dreading it more than Spencer. The others aren’t exactly fond of the faux smiles and convoluted politics and fake niceties either, sure, but tonight he has far more to lose than ever before. Namely, the man sat just out of his direct eye line at the Fugitive Task Force table.

Ironically, he and Luke had gotten ready for the same event together. They’d stood in the mirror side by side and tied one another’s ties in the way that always makes Spencer smile and Luke had gently brushed his hair out of eyes, but when it came time to leave, Spencer called a rideshare, and Luke drove the truck, arriving at completely different times in completely different vehicles.

The thing is, that as much as he loves his team, and as much as the FBI fraternisation policy has been significantly relaxed over the last few years, no one can know they’re together and have been for the last eight months.

Even the thought of Derek or Hotch or even JJ finding out — not only that he’s dating someone but that that person is a man — makes him feel queasy.

Which is why he smiles around an awkward cough and forces himself to meet the eyes of his profiler teammates, fighting every instinct in him to run, leg it out of here, never show your face again.

“No, I’m just looking at the clock above them,” he lies, and it isn’t smooth in any way shape or form but it’ll have to do. “You know I can’t wait for this to end. I haven’t read any Carl Jung in weeks.”

Tara laughs, raising her wine glass slightly. “Now that I understand.”

“Nah, I’m not so sure,” Derek grins slyly, “I think my man has his eye on some girl and he’s just getting a little shy, am I right, pretty boy?” He quirks an eyebrow playfully, leaning over to pat him on the back, and Spencer scrambles to recover.

“Believe whatever you’d like, Morgan,” he says, bringing his own glass to his lips to conceal any tells in his expression. “Doesn’t make it any less false.”

Thankfully, the conversation is interrupted by the Director clearing his throat into the mic on the stage as he introduces the next round of awards. Spencer loses himself in the anonymity of a dark room and a clapping audience, grateful that he’s avoided this round of interrogation.

The rest of the night progresses similarly. Spencer tries to keep his eyes away from Luke’s table — and valiantly attempts to keep from blushing like a schoolgirl when their eyes meet and Luke’s lips quirk upwards in an I-tried-to-stop-it-but-I-just-can’t kind of smile — and the rest of his team rib him pretty relentlessly about this ‘girl’ he supposedly has his eye on.

Hotch tries to get the team to leave him alone, but when a group of skilled, determined profilers all a little tipsy on wine and champagne encounter a friend’s mysterious love life, it’s pretty difficult to stand in their way.

Once dessert is served, though, things rapidly go downhill.

As much as he’s been trying to keep his eyes away from Luke’s table, it’s almost impossible to prevent his gaze from straying in a temporary moment of cognitive lapse every now and then, and while everyone is relatively quiet and occupied, digging into the Belgian waffle dessert, it happens once again. This time, though, instead of a small smile from Luke, he’s rewarded with the frankly heart-stopping sight of a young, pretty agent practically sitting in his lap, trying to feed him dessert.

He looks uncomfortable, and immediately Spencer is hit with an overwhelming wave of insecurity, jealousy, and an urge to protect that strangles his breath for a moment. He stares unabashedly, no longer caring whether anyone sees him because that’s his boyfriend and an extremely pretty woman is all over him and he looks like he wants her to stop, and oh my god, what does he do?

“Is that the girl you like all over that dude?” Derek asks sympathetically, catching onto Spencer’s staring. “It’s alright, man, if she’d choose someone else over you then she’s not right for you anyway. Why don’t you come and enjoy your dessert?”

Spencer senses the rest of the team’s eyes on him, but they don’t say anything, probably from a combination of pity, awkwardness, and confidence in Derek to counsel him through it. He’s hardly cognisant of that, though, instead a roar of emotion crashing through his mind, and he has no idea what to do about it.

When he sees a perfectly manicured hand land directly on Luke’s chest, though; when he sees Luke reject her more firmly, this time pushing her away; when he watches as she clearly gears herself up for some sad protest of self-victimisation, he sees red.

Before he can stop himself, he’s storming across the room over to Luke’s table. “Hi,” he says firmly, audibly pissed off and not in the mood for bullshit, “do you mind if I borrow my friend here? I have some official FBI business to discuss with him. Thanks.”

Without waiting for a response, he grabs Luke’s arm and leads him to the corridor outside the main hall, Luke following quickly and willingly behind him.

“Are you okay?” Spencer asks with his brow furrowed, his hand coming up to gently rest on Luke’s waist as he peers at him concernedly through the dim lighting of the hallway.

“Yes, baby, I’m fine,” Luke smiles reassuringly, raising a hand to Spencer’s face. “I’m sorry you had to see that. She was… persistent.”

“She shouldn’t have made you uncomfortable like that,” Spencer insists, still feeling distressed and anxious despite the immediate situation having been diffused.

“You’re right,” Luke agrees. “And she should’ve listened to me when I told her I was taken. I’m sorry you had to see someone flirting with me so openly like that, carinõ, I know you still get insecure about things like that.”

Spencer sighs, relaxing slowly the more he hears Luke’s voice as steady and strong and kind as it always is. He steps forward and buries his face in Luke’s neck as he nestles in close for a comforting hug.

“You know I only have eyes for you, right, sweetheart?” Luke whispers softly, one arm holding his waist and another tangling itself in Spencer’s loose curls.

He nods into Luke’s neck, but doesn’t make any move to pull away, just enjoying the warmth and closeness of standing so intimately with the man he loves until—

“Spencer!” Derek’s voice pulls him violently from his sweet escape from reality and horror instantly floods him as he jerks away from Luke, staring at Derek in a nauseating mixture of alarm and trepidation.

“What…” Derek stares right back at him as both JJ and Tara come tumbling through the doors behind him, looking ready for a fight—

Oh. That makes sense. They all saw him storming towards a woman they thought he had a crush on, then pull the man she was flirting with out into the most secluded corridor surrounding the hall. Even considering Spencer’s character, he has to admit that the circumstances definitely look like he was gearing up for a fight, and everyone knows that he is not the kind of person who could hold his own against an ex-military man who chases down criminals for a living.

“You’re… not fighting him,” Derek says hesitantly, the puzzle pieces clearly falling into place for him.

Spencer shakes his head minutely, and is only thankful when Luke inches closer and wraps an arm around him. After all, he has nothing more to lose.

“You were looking at him, not her,” Derek continues slowly.

Spencer nods, unable to meet the eyes of any of the three friends standing in front of him.

“You’re dating him,” he says, still sounding shocked, his voice almost entirely numb. “You’re gay.”

“Or bisexual,” Tara offers, and Spencer takes a little comfort in the fact that she doesn’t sound shocked or upset, her voice warm and helpful. He tries to meet her eye, but he can’t work up the courage and buries closer into Luke’s embrace instead.

“Gay,” he whispers.

“Spence,” JJ says quietly, earnestly, “why didn’t you tell us?”

It’s too much to go into right now, too convoluted and long of a story for him to explain when even choking out a single syllable takes a herculean effort, so he shrugs instead.

“We were talking all night assuming you were interested in a woman,” Derek says numbly, more to himself than anything, but Spencer watches out of the corner of his eye as he shakes off the shock and comes back to himself, slowly putting more of the puzzle together as he looks at Spencer. “That’s why you didn’t tell us. We’ve been making assumptions all this time and hurting you in the process.”

“Oh, Spence,” JJ whispers sadly, stepping a little closer.

“I’m so sorry, pretty boy, I— I should’ve known or tried to be more inclusive at least, I’m so sorry I made you feel like this.”

The regret in his friends’ voices and the absence of a negative reaction brings him out of the safety of Luke’s arms slightly. His boyfriend is eyeing him with serious concern, and he tries a smile to reassure him a little, squeezing his hand.

“I’m sorry I didn’t tell you,” he manages, clearing his throat awkwardly as he finally succeeds in making eye contact. “It’s a long story and I’ll tell you another time, but, uh​​— this is Luke. We’ve been together for eight months, two weeks, and four days.”

Luke smiles fondly. “As much as we didn’t expect to reveal it like this, it’s nice to meet all of you properly,” Luke says warmly, shaking everyone’s hands quickly before stepping back to Spencer and interlocking their fingers, pressing a quick but meaningful kiss to his temple.

“I’m really glad you felt able to share this with us, Spence,” Tara says encouragingly, smiling at him in that bright, reassuring way of hers that rivals Penelope in the warmth and comfort it radiates. “I’m proud of you.”

Something about her reaction this entire time has him wondering whether she already knew. He’ll ask her later when he feels less like his heart is still firmly lodged in his throat.

“Me too, kid,” Derek agrees, smiling as well. Spencer wonders whether the initial shock and numb reaction was more a response to his own behaviour than anything about him and Luke, and the thought makes him feel substantially better.

JJ grins, stepping forward and grabbing Spencer’s other hand. “Me three.”

Before anyone can say anything else, the doors are opening again and Penelope is flying through them.

“Oh! Thank god you’re all okay! You just ran off after Spencer and I left you guys to it because I thought you could handle it better than I could but then you didn’t come back and even Hotch was worried, and—” she cuts herself off as she realises everyone staring at her, and slowly she takes in the scene around her. “Oh my god, I’ve missed something. Oh my god, I missed a moment, didn’t I? What have I told you guys about having moments without me? Someone tell me what happened, please, before I explode—”

“Alright, Penelope,” Spencer chuckles, interrupting her. He’s known her for too long to expect her to cut herself off when she’s on a tirade like that. “Uh, this is Luke. My boyfriend.”

“Your… your boyfriend? Oh my god, I finally get to meet him? Wait you told the others? Oh my god I’ve missed so much!”

“Penelope knew?” Derek asks, surprised.

“Half of mine and Spencer’s mutual friends are FBI Agents, and the other half are drag queens, of course I knew,” Penelope dismisses him, “but he wasn’t ready for me to meet his boyfriend yet or even know his name and I very nicely did not go hunting to find him out because I could’ve done that, but I didn’t, because I value you so much as a friend, Spencer, and I’m so glad you finally—”

“Penelope!” Spencer interjects, laughing even more as the tension and distress he’d felt only minutes ago finally melts away fully. “Do you actually want to introduce yourself to Luke, or do you want to keep rambling about drag queens?”

“Right! Yes!” she says eagerly, turning to Luke. “I’m Penelope and it is so nice to meet you, like you don’t even know how much I’ve wanted to meet the man who has my blueberry muffin blushing bright pink in the corner of my batcave while he texts on the phone, and I know you call him carinõ because I saw a text once and it’s the sweetest nickname ever, you are just the cutest, and we are going to be best friends—”

Spencer rests his head on Luke’s shoulder as he listens fondly to Penelope rambling and his friends chatting amongst themselves and everyone getting to know the most important man in his life — the only man he’s ever wanted anything long term with, the only man he’s ever wanted to actually marry one day — and a warm, sweet feeling of contentment floods his chest.

It’s far from the way he thought he’d feel after the team found about Luke, and he savours it, holds it in his mouth for as long as he can before swallowing the memory and filing it away to treasure forever. A moment like this deserves that kind of reverence.

“How are you feeling about tonight?�� Luke asks gently as they crawl into bed, tired but happy at gone 2am. He pulls Spencer into his side as soon as they’re under the duvet, resting his chin on his head as he always does.

Moments like these make Spencer smile, the kind of familiar routine that’s so essential to their relationship. Luke had figured out early on that close physical contact and firm touches make him feel safe and settle his racing mind, so they’d worked out positions that made them both feel comfortable, and now relaxing into them is second nature.

“A bit weird,” Spencer admits after thinking for a moment. “I’m happy that they know now and everyone took it well, but it’s strange. A significant part of who I am has been not only that I’m gay, but the dedication I felt to protecting that secret. And now that it’s out, it feels like something private has been bared for my friends to inspect.”

“I think that’s only natural,” Luke muses quietly, pressing a kiss to Spencer’s curls. “It’ll take some getting used to, but you’ll adjust eventually.”

Spencer sighs. “Yeah, you’re right. After I tackle telling Hotch and Rossi, it’ll be nice not to have to hide it. I’ll be able to talk about you at work and maybe even go crazy and put a photo of you on my desk.”

“Wow, that is wild, check you out,” Luke chuckles, before they settle into a comfortable silence in the warm glow of their bedroom. Eventually, he speaks up though, quiet and reverent. “I’m proud of you, carinõ. I really am.”

The words instantly make Spencer smile, a light blush tinging his ears again. He hides his face in Luke’s chest, scooching impossibly closer into his arms. “I love you,” he whispers.

“I love you, too, Spencer,” Luke replies, a happy sigh in his voice.

He reaches over and turns off the bedside lamp. His hand returns to Spencer’s hair and something clicks into place somewhere, a fundamental alignment of the universe that brings a feeling of something so incredibly right as their breathing rhythmically matches to one another and they slide into the welcome embrace of sleep.

just saw SoD again for the third time and here are some disconnected thoughts

- very weird how in the 90s we got wizards who looked weird and gnc and crazy but we couldn’t have anyone be explicitly queer or ND or have sex outside marriage, now we get canon gays and an autistic main character and someone having a kid underage out of wedlock but they all have to wear grey and black suits

okay okay okay. obvious content warnings for rape and incest because. it’s Kiyo. also trigger warnings for self-harm

- basically, when Korekiyo was very young, he was raped and manipulated by his sister. Whether the sexual abuse was a one time thing or occurred multiple times, I’m not actually sure, but it traumatized Kiyo into adopting age regressive tendencies as a coping mechanism. Shortly after, he also adopted the fabricated persona of his “Sister” so that he could pretend he had a caregiver whenever he regressed; it’s not a system, or a ghost possessing him - he’s simply playing both little and caretaker as a means of dealing with his trauma. Why he adopted the persona of his abuser is due to the fact that Sister likely brainwashed him into believing that she was the only person who loved him.

- The word “apologize” is a major trigger, regardless of the context it’s being used in. If he hears it without warning, he’s liable to have some sort of breakdown, oft involving him reciting the phrases “You mustn’t stutter. You mustn’t become flustered. You mustn’t raise your voice. You mustn’t waver.” Etc. Etc. that we hear “Sister” reprimanding him for in chapter 3. He’s also likely to just begin saying “I’m sorry” over and over until he snaps back to reality.

- *sigh* everything wrong with him is Tsumugi’s fault actually and I’m gonna kill her for it

- He’s gay but he never got the opportunity to actually explore that part of himself due to Sister’s influence. He’s also nonbinary and uses he/they pronouns

- post game au where he finds out what Tsumugi did to his backstory and he just kicks down her door like “sHIROGANE-”

- I’ve seen quite a few interpretations of why Kiyo wears the bandages, but I’ve gotta say my favorite is probably the concept of his sister forcing him to “punish” himself via self-harming. Yes I am an edgy bastard thanks for noticing.

- FUCK EVERYTHING V3 CHAPTER THREE WOULD HAVE BEEN SO MUCH COOLER IF KIYO HAD ONLY KILLED TENKO. - has scopophobia (fear of being stared at). This is supported by his repeated lines of “Why are you all looking at me [like I’m the killer]” during his trial. Personally I find this to be very fun to explore because his entire character revolves around needing to “look” at other people in order to study them.

- The reason he so coolly accepts insults about his physical appearance is because his sister already drilled it into his head that he was ugly enough to be unlovable, and that she was the only person capable of caring for him in any meaningful

- pregame kiyo is an embittered csa survivor who enjoys true crime because he is only fascinated by the ugliest parts of humanity. When auditioning for danganronpa, he actually was the one to pitch the concept of a serial killer as the blackened due to his strong fascination with such topics. His sister being arrested for child abuse and molestation is a matter of public record, hence how team danganronpa discovered that about him and weaved it into his fabricated backstory.

- Kokichi loves listening to Korekiyo’s stories, and is actually one of his more attentive “pupils.” Sometimes he’ll even break into Kiyo’s lab and just hang around while the anthropologist does research or other important work. They both infodump to one another - Kiyo about humanity and Kokichi about whatever pops into his head (usually some sort of elaborative lie/tall tale he stretches into a story) - and love to see the other excited.

- I also think it’s funny to imagine Ouma and Kiyo having a power struggle for dominance in their relationship. Like,,,,,,imagining them playfully flirting with one another and then Kokichi delivering some sort of final blow that leaves Shinguji breathless and red-faced is my goddamn lifeblood.

- Kiyo is extremely ticklish thank you good night

- Kokichi and Kaito are 🤝 about tickling him all the time no matter what

- please it’s so funny to me. just Kiyo in the dining hall trying to eat his food meanwhile ouma sneaks up behind him like the little bastard he is just to dig his wiggling fingers into the anthropologist’s sides. be warned im about to talk a FUCK TON, specifically about the raven cycle. this post will very much need a "readmore" to keep it from clogging dashes

ANYWAY

the raven cycle is a YA urban fantasy quartet by maggie stiefvater published between 2012 and 2016, which also has a spinoff series "the dreamer trilogy" but ive only read the first Dreamer so far; i have a signed copy of the 2nd and am mildly worried ill ruin it. i first read TRC last year in july and am actually currently doing my 3rd read (via audiobook this time). So what is it about, you ask??? WELL

TRC stars 5 teenagers--Adam Parish, Ronan Lynch, Richard Gansey, Blue Sargent, and Noah Czerny. the boys meet blue at a restaurant and somehow drag her into their "quest"--find the body of Owen Glendower in the hills of virginia and wake him up. They want to do this because when gansey was 10 he died via wasp stings and was brought back to life with the voice of glendower talking to him and now he's OBSESSED with finding glendower. Along the way we find out Blue is gonna kill her true love, and that guy probably is gansey (who only has a year to live).

u may be thinking, 'alright, cool plot, but why special interest-worthy?" and i shall gently yell BECAUSE ITS THE BEST WRITING AND CHARACTERIZATION IVE EVER COME ACROSS

Maggie stiefvater knows how to make the best characters, like, ever, because she doesnt do the typical YA thing of "oh uwu here are their flaws: theyre too nice, too sweet, too naive". she's got shit like "purposely failing school" & "stupid about money and insensitive to friends about it" and "refuses to ask for help" and "drinks to cope", y'know, things that are actually flaws to overcome.

they've also all got amazing little traits just-to-them; blue really likes trees, layers her clothing, loves yogurt, is the only non-psychic in a family of them, & shreds her shirts to make them look more interesting. Ronan races cars, knows how to farm, LOVES his little pet bird (named Chainsaw btw), and grapples with being religious (catholic) vs being gay. Noah is quiet and "smudgy" and doesn't eat enough (because he doesnt. actually. have a stomach or like an actual brain really thats another thing tho). Gansey loves his journal and is terrified of wasps and eats avacado on his pizza and is really good at finding things. Adam wears a coca-cola shirt and is super focused around money (bc he Has None) and lives above a church and helps ronan do stupid shit. like, this is the stuff i thought of within 30 seconds for each character, and most of that alone is in the 1st book. like, it gets even more thorough as it goes on.

and the WRITING. i know exactly what the inside of gansey's car looks like and it wasnt boring to learn that. like, i still remember that stiefvater described that there's CDs in the backseat and beef jerky thats long expired and too many receipts. I remember 300 fox way (blue's house) doesnt have a single man living there and that there's a sewing-phone-cat room. I remember monmouth (gansey's house) was a factory but it's unknown what it produced but there's scorch marks on the walls and really high ceilings. I know blue adores the stars and trees and i know persephone (blue's mother's friend) listens to angry PHD music. Like, this was all peppered in casually but written in such a gripping way that its lodged in my brain. i was never once bored reading TRC, and ive gotten bored reading almost every other book, even the ones i love.

and the MAGIC is so cool, there's psychics and trees that speak (but only in latin!) and dragons made of fire that came out of people's heads and demon bugs and weird sticky stuff that tears apart the world. it's not all explained, and i love that, because it's explained enough that i'm satisfied but i don't somehow know more than all the characters combined.

... anyway i realize ive practically written an essay, and also i have to do my nano shit now cause theres not a ton of hours left in the day, but!!! soul is doing the smiley emote!! because raven cycle!!

I do! One of them is where you meet Floofty for the first time. You, the Journalist who has zero clue what even is Snaktooth Island, meets an even more confusing and rather rude grumpus. But honestly they're kind of charming trying to convince you to give them a Strabby. And then Floofty just runs away in their silly manner, paws behind their back. I've tried catching up to them multiple times, hilarious how they just go through the player and slam the door in front of you

Another ones are any scenes with Snorpy and Chandlo really, mostly Snorpy tho. I heavily relate to his personality, so watching him stomping his feet in excitement or from being nervous, telling the player his plans is extremely entertaining. Oh and Chandlo is straight up goals. As Roka once said: "He's the peak of masculinity and we both gotta get to his level"

Oh and meme scenes as well, can't forget 'bout "THAT'S WHY YOUR WIFE LEFT YOU!". Still cracks me up

There are barely any characters that I dislike. Every character is unique in their own way and that's enough for me to love them. Not to say that my fav characters can change after time(fun fact I used to absolutely despise Floofty... can you believe that?). I do think we could've gotten more lore on Lizbert and Eggabell, it's hard for me to relate to them. Except for Eggabell maybe

OMG OMG OMG THIS ONE'S GONNA BE SO FUN!! I'll start with my favorites

Floofty: Autistic lesbian (their special interest are robots, but they don't talk about it very often). They listen to heavy music on occasion, which they enjoy. Horror movies fan, tho complains about some parts not being realistic (Reanimator is on their favorites list for sure)

Snorpy: Lemon Demon enjoyer, autistic, oversized sweaters and color green are everything to him (you can guess why😏), gets pretty muscular after Snaktooth, but you can't really see it, so he surprises people with his strength

Filbo: Adhd, agender and doesn't mind he/him prns and masculine terms as long as you're being respectful ;), also gay gay gay in love with the Journalist gay gay gay

The Journalist: Agender (they/them or no pronouns, name instead of pronouns), queer and constantly stressed. Stays good friends with most of grumps from the expedition

💢  what do you NOT like about your hyperfixation? is there something you would want to change about it?

I both hate and love how little attention this game has gained. It has a lot of potential, the fandom is pretty small and extremely comfortable. I've met so many nice people because of Bugsnax :) I think it's for the best, if it stays this way

Many people've touched on this topic already, but some characters really need more screen time than showed in the game. Where's our gramma and lemon-nosed scientist content???

Another thing is how hard it is to explain what this game really is. I'm pretty vocal about liking Bugsnax, anything really, but as soon as I want to tell someone new about it, i'm met with confusion at the "bugs combined with snacks" and "these muppets' limbs turn into food" part

Ok I gotta start out with the BEST one so I'll just have it out there

I'LL MAKE A MAN OUT OF YOU IS A FUCKING MASTERPIECE! IT'S THE BEST DISNEY SONG EVER AND I WILL DIE ON THIS HILL! People have criticised me for liking it before because "uwu it has SEXISM in it that means it's BAD" like yeah??? it's a movie about female empowerment of course it's gonna have sexism in it, that doesn't make it problematic you fucking idiot. It's about as cold of a take as "oh no did you hear that Brokeback Mountain has homophobia in it? not very woke of them" like dude have you no critical thinking? I don't give a shit about the sexist lines it's a fucking BOP okay. I mean the lyrics???? "We must be swift as the coursing river With all the force of a great typhoon With all the strength of a raging fire Mysterious as the dark side of the moon" like WHO COMES UP WITH THAT?! And that's not even mentioning the fucking visuals okay? Like I genuinely believe it's the best training montage of all time (I haven't seen Rocky but my mom has and she said it's not as good. usually I wouldn't really trust her on these kinds of topics but I'm gonna take a wild guess and say she's right). I mean, the fucking visual of Mulan using her intelligence to climb up the pole and get the arrow, making everyone's training take a turn for the better? BEAUTIFUL! Also bisexual legend Lee Chang is shirtless during the entire thing 100/10.

Keeping it on the Mulan track, Reflection – the beautiful song that awakened something in EVERY queer kid (honestly tho I never really struggled with my queer identity that much so I actually relate to it more on an autistic level). Also THIS IS AN EDMUND SONG, I WILL FIGHT ANYONE WHO DISAGREES! 15/10. 

Then just, the entire Beauty and the Best soundtrack. It’s my favourite Disney movie of all time, it’s truly their magnum opus, and every song is a BOP. I relate to Belle so hard and she was also my first ever fictional crush at the age of 3. “Belle” is a great opening number that’s extremely musically effective since it serves both to establish the world and as an I want song. Belle (reprise) is just as great. Gaston is a great hilarious villain song that perfectly illustrates how the towns folk blindly love and follow Gaston AND how much of a fucking meme he is. Be Our Guest is grand and beautifully animated, and it serves to make us (and Belle) see the castle as home perfectly. Something There is just THE perfect song to illustrate growing romantic feelings. Beauty and the Beast is such a beautiful fucking love song I want to play it at my wedding! And The Mob Song has a Shakespeare reference in it, plus a lot of relevant as hell lyrics to its theme “We don't like what we don't understand, in fact it scares us And this monster is mysterious at least” what more could you want? honestly this entire song kinda reads like they’re going to kill a gay man or something, which makes sense since it was written by one, and it’s honestly terrifying through that perspective 20/10. 

I Won’t Say (I’m In Love) BASICALLY INVENTED MUSICAL THEATRE ITSELF HOLY SHIT! I fucking love to associate it with any ship that includes one of the characters being in denial (which is most of them). I’ve been listening to it a lot more lately since I put it on my meter playlist and it NEVER gets old. The muses trying to get Meg to say that she’s in love accommodated with her just refusing to admit it works soooo well. My favourite lyrics are “It's too cliche I won't say I'm in love” and “My head is screaming Get a grip girl Unless you're dying to cry your heart out” and “Face it like a grown-up When you gonna own up that you got got got it bad” and the ending part “At least out loud I won't say I'm in love” that one gets me every time. 20/10. 

Kiss the Girl is a fucking bop. I don’t have much else to say about it other than that. I hope my friends will sing it while trying to set me up with someone someday. 10/10.

I See the Light is such a wonderful love song and it always makes me think of Draco and Aria. Just the concept of finding your greater purpose through this person you never so coming, ah 😭😭😭. “You were my new Dream” “An you were mine” 10/10. 

I have a couple of songs where only the swedish version is special to me, and it’s all just cause memories with my dad from when I was little. So, idk you can listen to the swedish versions if you want even tho you won’t understand it (I mean you can just look up the English lyrics so that doesn’t really matter). Those are Thomas O’Malley, Ev'rybody Wants to Be a Cat (Alla Snubbar Vill Ju Vara Katt) and The Bear Necessities (Var Nöjd Med All Som Livet Ger). Me and my dad used to watch Aristocats all the time and his favourite character was Thomas O’Malley, so his love for the character and the song sort of seeped into me as well, and we both loved Alla Snubbar Vill Ju Vara Katt (I’m a cat person, what can I say?). We also watched The Jungle Book a lot and my dad was absolutely OBSESSED with Var Nöjd Med All Som Livet Ger. He sung it ALL THE TIME. I honestly think I’ve heard that song more than Let It Go. 15/10. 

Of course there’s a lot of other fantastic Disney songs out there (Hellfire and A Whole New World come to mind, I feel like they deserve an honourable mention) but these are just the ones that are more special to me personally. 

Also yes of course Reflection is a Henry song also but it’s just a given that if I relate anything to autism it also applies to Henry Mills

lets talk the lion king 2, everybody.  so. for those of you who haven’t seen it, first of all, this will probably contain spoilers.  second of all, go watch it. third, this is nuka.

and this is kovu. his little brother.

and this is their sister, vitani. (younger than nuka, i THINK older than kovu but i’m not sure they might be twins)

all three of these characters are VERY important to this post.

so, Kovu, the neurotypical coded sibling, was chosen by Scar to become king after him, even though Kovu wasn’t Scar’s son. whereas, Nuka is constantly theorized to be scar’s ACTUAL son.  and honestly, it would make sense.  like look at scar, then look at nuka. these two are OBVIOUSLY very closely related.  but that’s not the point of this post.

the point of this post is how Zira, their biological mother, treated them as individuals.

before you start talking to me about how “oh but shes the villain” or “she’s a lion” i dont actually care.  she may have been the villain, but these were her OFFSPRING. and lions or not, they’re sapient.  like they have morals.

ok so lets go.  lets talk about them youngest to oldest, because i want to save Nuka for last so i can REALLY go off.

Kovu first.  Zira WORSHIPPED Kovu. or at least, that’s how it appears at first glance.  but if you’ll take the time to look a little closer, she really only worshipped the fact that he was chosen to be king.

as SOON as he “betrayed” Zira, she didn’t care anymore. she was literally ready to kill him.  like huh???  

i may add more on that later, but now let’s move on to one of my very first gay awakenings Vitani. Zira saw vitani as a soldier. nothing more, nothing less.  like, when Kovu gets the chance to kill Simba and doesnt, and Vitani sees it, she immediately reports back to her mother.  her mother freaks out at this report. doesn’t even thank vitani for literally SPYING on her own brother.  like what???  Vitani has always struck me as not neurotyical, but not SUPER neurodivergent either. this will be important at the end of the story, kids, so remember this.

ok now i’m gonna GO OFF about nuka.  i have ALWAYS related to nuka. and i only JUST recently realized why.  it’s because he’s neurodivergent, and his mother treats him like shit.  and. that’s exactly how my life went. so this boy. he SHOWERED his mother in as many gifts as he could access, he did EVERYTHING he could to please this bitch, and how did she repay him??? by abusing him.  all nuka wanted was for his mother to give him even an OUNCE of the love that she gave to kovu. but she never did!  my guess is because he’s neurodivergent.  and, zira REALLY strikes me as a conservative

to conservatives, having a neurodivergent child is basically the worst thing that could possible happen to you. not the worst thing that could happen to your child, but to YOU.  i mean, the way conservatives treat autistic people, even their own offspring, is APALLING.  if you’re conservative, and your child comes out autistic, you’re gonna treat them like they’ll never be good enough. or like they’ll never be able to understand ANYTHING.  thats just one example though. 

i’m not autistic, but I am ADHD, and bipolar.  I hyperfixate on things CONSTANTLY.  a GOOD parent would at least PRETEND to be interested when i’m rambling about my current hyperfixation.  but conservatives don’t usually make good parents to nd kids.  and sadly, my parents were VERY conservative, so any time i tried to tell my mother about something that i was interested in and she wasnt, she’ dlet me know she didn’t care.  whether she did it passve aggressively, or just, straight up said “I don’t really care” (which was what usually happened. the “i dont really care” option.).

i guarantee you that nuka tried to tell his mother things he thought were cool. all the time. he found a pretty bug? ooooo i gotta show mother! saw a really twisty tree? OOOO mother will want to hear about that!!! and i also guarantee that his mother blew him off every time he tried to show her something cool or something he found interesting.  like.  im finna write angsty nuka fanfiction i’m so mad. like UGGGGH

oh and do you know when Zira realized how much she meant to him? (if she ever realized it. i’m not sure she wasn’t pretending to be completely honest)....  it was when he literally DIED trying to impress her! like he’s dying under a log and she’s only JUST NOW realizing “oh my gods this is my son and i’ve treated him like SHIT his ENTIRE life!!!”

like uggggh i hate zira so much. like, i love a lot of villains, but not this bitch who literally makes me think of how shitty my own mother was to me.

Duck_Life - i have never felt more vindicated in being extremely multifandom. i’m still working my way through their VAST archive but like. oh my god. i’m in love. some notables:

series of xmen ficlets (this is cheating, especially since i’m gonna bring some of these up later, but READ THIS. these fics are all fantastic and once you get to, like, part 26? or so? you’re following along with the dawn of x relaunch, which is EVERYTHING i have EVER WANTED, y’all have no idea how much i’ve craved fic about the newest comics. amazing stuff. the best new mutants content ever.)

THE FUCKING SCOTT CHARACTERIZATION!! this fic broke me i am ruined and i regret nothing. thank you op for my life)

Adrian Chase x gn reader platonic fic , you confront him about liking Chris 

You joined the team after the whole Butterfly Incident. Secretly, you’re glad you were oblivious to the fact tiny little aliens were going around Evergreen and other places all over the world making their way into human brains through orifices and taking control. 

You shiver with the chill of the directions of your thought.

“Hey, you alright buddy?” Chris slaps you on the shoulder to be friendly but it about keels you over. The man forgets how big he is sometimes. 

“Yeah, I’m alright,” you say and go back to cleaning your gun on the table in front of you.

“Are you ok?” Adrian chimes in, looking up from his sword he’s been oiling with tender love and care, sitting across from you in the offices that were still under one of Murn’s aliases.

“Yes, yes, I’m fine,” and you roll your eyes. “Just grossed out thinking about the Butterflies.”

Chris and Adrian nod at each other with the knowledge that they had barely survived that battle. And yet now an even bigger threat was approaching. Maybe. 

You stand up, having placed your gun back together once more, safety on of course. “Alright, I’m gonna head out.”

“I’ll walk with you!” Adrian puts his sword in its scaber and rushes to follow. Chris moves over to the piano to get some practice in before heading home.

The two of you walk out the door together, best of buds. “What did you want to do?” you ask as the curly haired man walks alongside you down the sidewalk.

“Well, what do you do for fun when you have a few hours free? Aside from killing people that is,” Adrian chuckles in that way of his.

You laugh along and bump your shoulder against his in response. The 11th Street Kids had encountered you at the end of your vendetta against the mob boss who had your apartment building burned to the ground for the insurance. With your entire family inside it. Not ones to judge, they had simply taken note of your skills and asked you to join the team. Adrian and Chris had helped you cover your tracks so the police and the mob wouldn’t connect your new superhero persona, Y/N, to the murders. 

“Let’s grab a few beers at this nerdy bar,” you suggest and make a right hand turn.

“A nerd bar? Now why haven’t I been there before? I’d totally play some D&D there!”

“It’s relatively new,” you explain. A few minutes later, you and your pal arrive at Geeks&Gays.

“Love the name already!” exclaims Adrian, opening the door and rushing in.

You follow your friend inside to the cozy, warmly lit but not too bright bar. As a fellow autistic on the spectrum, you love this bar for it’s sensory friendly and queer friendly vibes. You figured Adrian would like it too.

You sit down at the booth with Adrian, who’s looking up at all the artwork on the wall above you. Comic art, 80’s movies posters, rock stars, the bar has it all. 

A waiter comes over wearing normal clothes underneath a rainbow apron that says Geeks&Gays on the front. You notice they have a they/them pin on their left shoulder. “How can I help you folks?” the waiter asks.

“I’ll take a Blue Moon,” you say, smiling.

“And I’ll have a hard apple cider,” Adrian puts in without waiting for the waiter to ask him.

After the waiter returns quickly with your bottled drinks, you both sit and talk for a minute.

Adrian plays with a pocket knife in one of his hands and you twirl a pen from one of your many pockets.

“So, how long have you and Chris been a thing?” you ask cheekily, putting your glass down on the table.

“I, we, what?”

“Oh come on man, you’re such a terrible liar!” you chuckle.

“If you must know, not too much before we picked you up,” Adrian answers. He gets that dreamy look on his face you’ve noticed on your bff’s face every time he’s thinking of Adrian. It’s so sweet. He’s so obviously in love with the big lug that even you had picked on it and didn’t need to be told by the other members of the team who’ve also figured it out. 

“Well, I’m happy for you man. Cheers.” You hold your glass out and clink it with Adrians.

At that moment, the sound of glass breaking makes you both look up from the back of the bar.

You see towards the front of the bar entrance where some clearly drunk white dudes have burst in, leaning onto the counter. One has thrown a glass onto the floor. 

The nonbinary waiter behind the bar leans back away from the rowdy gentleman, saying calmly, “Maybe y’all should leave now.” Their long arm reaches under the counter for the shotgun they keep under there for purposes such as this.

One of the slightly less drunk men says “Oh no you don’t,” and grabs their apron, hauling the tall person out from behind the counter and over it.

At this, you and Adrian leap into action. 

He takes the left, you take the right. Just like you do when you’re both out prowling the night as Vigilante and Y/N.

Adrian cheekily taps one guy on the shoulder and when he turns around the man goes “You? YOU!” 

Adrian promptly kicks the man’s knee almost faster than the eye can see and he goes down hard at the crack it makes. 

Meanwhile, you’ve got your hands full with two men, one you’ve broken a chair over their head but they still both keep on coming. You pick up a chair leg and start wielding it like a club, smacking grabby hands and thwacking at exposed limbs.

Adrian leaps onto the back of one, going for a chokehold, and you aim a flying kick at the other man’s chest, avoiding the knife that appeared in his hand. 

Having the wind knocked out of him, you step on the hand holding the knife until he releases it. 

Then kick him in the face. “Lights out motherfucker.”

You turn to Adrian, who’s man finally falls to his knees having been unable to break the chokehold. “You know these fuckers ruining our night?”

“Let’s just say I met them in prison once,” Adrian says with that sassy way of his. 

You turn to the waiter who was picking themselves up off the floor where they’d been dropped and had stayed at during the fight seeing that their helpful rescuers had it well in hand. “What do you want us to do with these guys?”

The waiter looks down at the men, then at you and Adrian. “I think you two are done here for the night. If I’m gonna be able to use my insurance to pay for the damage I’m gonna have to call the police. And you don’t want to be around when they are, do you?” They raise one eyebrow at the three downed men you and Adrian had dispatched so efficiently. 

“Guess so,” you say and wink at the cute waiter. You grab Adrian’s arm and pull him out the door as he complains that he hasn’t gotten his barfood yet and he’s oh so hungry especially after a fight.

“I’ll get you some Taco Bell. Come on dude.”

“You’re gonna have to buy me at least a dozen Doritos tacos,” Adrian says giving in. He loves the cheesy flavor of the dorito shells. And you know it.

Having gotten two dozen tacos for the two of you to share, you and Adrian stay up to binge some comedy show on Netflix on your tv. 

Finally Adrian says it is late and gets up from the couch where he’d had his head on your soft shoulder for the past hour. 

“See you later bro!” Adrian grabs at his belongings on the coffee table.

“Say hi to Chris for me!”

Adrian turns around at the door and gives you the bird but with a smile.

Headcanons I Guess?

Last couple days got me feeling like shit so here's some headcanons to lighten  the spirits of myself and hopefully others. I have many so I’ll divide it by character.

Link: 

-Autistic and mostly nonverbal, and knows enough sign language for conversation.

-Loves to cook because smells nice.

-Pansexual, trust me 

-Nonbinary and GNC, uses all pronouns.

-Is literally the funniest person alive. Have you seen his dialogue?

-Struggled with anxiety pre and post-calamity. It was better in post-calamity when Zelda came back.

Zelda:

-Lesbian no I don’t take criticism

-desperately needs a new (and better smh) father figure post calamity.

-Taller than Link she’s taller than Link just accept it

-Didn’t make any close friends after her mothers death due to attachment issues.

-Cannot cook. She will literally burn water into charcoal. 

-Also autistic, she literally loves the tech so much and I love her so much for it.

Urbosa:

-Literally everyone's mom.

-Definitely in love with the Queen of Hyrule.

-She hated Rhoam, honestly I firmly believe this.

-Has a beautiful singing voice, sang to Zelda after the Queen died.

Daruk:

-He is simply nonbinary what can I say. 

-Also ace too.

-Cool Rock uncle.

-Okay he liked Link cuz they both Liked food, however I KNOW they would also commit arson together.

Revali:

-Grew up an orphan, so he felt he needed to prove his strength to everyone.

-He is actually a huge softie if you can get through the hard exterior.

-Heavily relies on attention and recognition to keep his confidence up. This is why he felt offended with Link when he didn’t praise him.

-Kinda self destructive not gonna lie. 

-He does not want to be seen as a failure.

-Hehe gay. He started crushing on Link when he saw him fight.

-Super embarrassed by his red fledgling marks, as he wants to seem old and mature when in reality he is baby.

Mipha:

-Bi Bi Bi Byesexuwal she is Bi.

-Is so kind and nice but will literally rip off your kneecaps without hesitation.

-Very strong compared to what her size may suggest, she has bested beasts who are almost three times her size.

-If anything happens to her friends and family she will literally go berserk and turn the ass of whoever is responsible into fucking whipped cream.

-Incredibly fast both on land and in water. She’s a BEAST

-Okay Nintendo I think you get it I just wanna see Mipha kick ass please

Riju:

-Master of pranks.

-Has the same energy as Little My from Moomin Valley, if you know what that is.

-Very mischievous, but only with friends (like Buliara, Link, Zelda and the new champs.)

-She is actually a really good planner, and is very strategic.

-A very smart and capable leader, her people actually trust her a great deal. 

-Not very open with her emotions. 

-Obviously loves sand seals, and begged Buliara to get all those plushies.

-Has grown to see Buliara as a mother figure.

Yunobo:

-Guess what also nonbinary

-I saw a post a long time ago that said he would like DND and oh my god I resonate with that so much. 

-Struggles with general anxiety, but has gotten through some tough times despite Goron culture.

-This makes him very understanding of others, and often offers to help with their problems, though he’s prone to being the “therapist” friend.

-I stand by this, he is a sculptor. When he’s not helping Bludo he’s making sculptures of he and his friends DND characters. This is the only medium he can learn becausedeathmountainandlavaandyouknow.

Sidon:

-Gay and Trans, no seriously I spoke with Nintendo themselves they told me its canon.

-I know this is the third character but he’s autistic.

-Also ADHD

-I need everyone to reread his dialogue and try and tell me he is not the most awkward man in existence. 

-He is by no means a coward, but he has some trauma from the great calamity and avoids violence involving malice and guardians. 

-This is a really weird one but I think he’d be far-sighted? Close up vison is probably not good given his head shape, and he’s good with bows.

-He’s gay and neurodivergent so guess what. Math makes him cry.

-Very bad with jokes cuz he misses social cues, however Dad puns will put him on the fucking floor. 

-He has only seen them in pictures, but he is absolutely MORTIFIED by horses.

-Doesn’t really make close friends easy because of abandonment issues.

Teba:

-Master of dad jokes, and jokes in general.

-He loves Saki because she is an expert at calling him out on his bullshit.

-He respects Saki a great deal.

-And all women why we’re at it.

-hehe bisexual

-Kinda uhh just adopted all of the new champs. 

-ESPECIALLY ZELDA

-If you need fatherly advice he’s your man.

-Shocked by the fact that all of the new champs, save for Sidon maybe, are children.

-So that means he is their fearless leader and he now has 5 more kids.

-Also scared of horses despite living near the stable (may have been run over as a kid)

-If a horse is nearby he and Sidon will literally bolt away like feral cats.

I thinks that about all I got. Writing this definitely made me feel better if you are a botw fan and are sad write headcanons. A lot of these are silly and indulgent but it feels nice to put my thoughts out there.
