Merry bday! A continuation of Enola Holmes marrying the viscount of Basilweather would be really cool 😀
a continuation of 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
She wrinkles her nose when Tewksbury passes over her cup of tea with two sugars, unstirred, and she knows.
She puts down the cup too quickly, blood pounding in her ears, and Tewksbury frowns, reaching for her hand. "Enola?"
"Got to go," she says, pushing herself to standing, almost just leaves him sitting there, hand outstretched, but he's her husband and she loves him, so she darts over to smack a kiss on his lips before she's running for the door.
"Enola!" he calls out again, but now he sounds less worried and more exasperated, which is better, which is good. There's nothing for him to worry about.
She wants her mother, who's banned from London and is causing political unrest in Southern France currently, or Edith, who's doing something clever and illegal in Scotland. She'd take Victoria, but Mycroft will be there, and he's the last person she wants to see right now. Sherlock, while beloved, is useless, but his boy is a doctor.
She drops in at 221B Baker Street, picking the lock like always, and is relieved that Sherlock is still asleep and decides not to have any opinions on the various bones scattered about the kitchen table. She assumes there's a reasonable explanation for them.
"Oh, Enola!" John grins and shoves some femurs to the side to make space at the table. "Here, join me, would you like some oatmeal? Are you looking for your brother? I can wake him-"
"I'm pregnant," she blurts out, then bites her bottom lip.
John blinks once, then twice, then says with a gentleness that had made her like him in the first place - because Sherlock wanted to be gentle, but was quite bad at it, so someone had to teach him - "This is what you wanted, isn't it?"
Wanted seems like not the correct word, although of course it is, because she and Tewksbury had been, not trying, but not-not trying, which probably amounted to the same thing, considering how often they - well.
"I can fix it," he says, voice low and serious, "if it's something that needs to be fixed."
Enola lets out a breath she hadn't realized she'd been holding. "No. No, it doesn't need to be fixed."
She loves that he offered. She loves John, more her brother than Mycroft will ever be, sometimes even more her brother than Sherlock is. If nothing else, her brothers had picked their partners well. Victoria and John are a delight.
John is the functional one between them, explosions and skeletons notwithstanding. John is the one that coaxed her brother into a proper relationship and John is the one that knew they were like parents to all the Irregulars and John isn't normal but he grew up normal.
"Are you worried something's wrong?" he asks. "I can look you over."
"No," she says, although, "I mean, yes, that'd be nice because Tewksbury will go spare, but no, I'm not worried anything's wrong."
He leans back in his chair, looking her over, and after almost ten years of dealing with her and Sherlock and even occasionally Mycroft he can read them almost as well as they can read everyone else.
"It's alright to be scared," he says finally. "Lots of women are when they find out, even when it's wanted, even when the baby's healthy."
"I'm not scared," she says, but for the first time her words feel like a lie. "I shouldn't be scared. What do I have to be scared of?"
She wishes her mother was here.
Will her children miss her like this too?
Sometimes she misses her mother even when she's right in front of her, and if nothing else, she's her mother's daughter.
John gets to his feet, stand in front of her, and opens his arms. She looks away even as she steps forward, like if she doesn't look at him when she does it then it doesn't count as weakness.
His arms close around her. He smells like chai and antiseptic and it's only years of association that make the combination comforting. "I can't wait to be an uncle."
He'll be an uncle. Sherlock will be an uncle. Even Mycroft, and Victoria will be delighted to be an aunt, and to raise her children with Enola's. Of course there's her mother-in-law, and Tewksbury's uncle, who have been angling for her to have a child from the day they married.
There's Tewksbury, who loves her, who isn't going to die on her or leave her if either of them have anything to say about it, who isn't going to leave her to raise their children the way her mother raised her.
Alone.
She's been saying she wasn't going to do this alone from the beginning, but standing here in Sherlock's kitchen, with John holding her steady, she really believes it.

Crowley: ...
Crowley: But the parent is the Leech Twin's father.
MC: Huh. So? That shouldn't be a big deal to him.
Crowley: He wanted me to dismiss you!

Jade: I believe he mentioned that he deserves to have a pole-dancing rematch.
MC: ...
MC: Huh. I can't reject that.
Azul: You're free to bring your two kids.
MC: *clicks tongue*
Floyd: We can hire a nanny~.
MC: It's settled then.

Hurry Back Home
Tumblr media
Summary: The four times you showed up at Bucky’s place unexpected.
Part 1
The first time was a month after the two of you broke up. Once your red rimmed eyes depuffed from the constant tears and you managed to get his name out. Your friends had come over once or twice to check up on you but you’d always lie.
“Thank you for stopping by but really, I’m okay.” You lied when they came by the first time, resting your body on the doorframe and keeping the door close to you so they wouldn’t see your Bucky covered apartment. You still hadn’t taken the pictures down, hadn’t washed your sheets because you could still catch a glimpse of his cologne and you sure as hell hadn’t stopped wearing the Henley he kept at your place. The one you were currently hiding underneath a big sweatshirt.
Of course they didn’t believe you but it was always better to give you some space.
“Call us whenever and we’ll be here.” One of your friends said, you nodded and closed the door.
You deeply regretted living in an apartment with paper thin walls when you heard your other friend say: “I really thought those two were endgame.”
But now, I’d been a month and it seemed like the sun was ready to shine again. The pain still felt unbearable but it was most likely because Bucky was still imprinted in your apartment. So one Sunday morning, you grabbed a cardboard box and decided enough was enough. Almost with closed eyes as to not relive the good memories, you started chucking everything that reminded you of him.
Goodbye rubber spatula Bucky melted half to death the first time he cooked you breakfast. Sayonara to the broken picture frame he’d glued back together after slamming your body against the wall that time you two came back tipsy and horny from the bar. Farewell to the plush blanket he insisted you needed in your living room the day your heater went out. Would it be too over the top if you brought the heater back to its broken state because he fixed it?
As you passed through the kitchen, you saw the small plate Bucky gave you when you went to that pottery class. A lopsided dish he’d made too oval and too deep to actually be useful but with the way his tongue poked out in concentration as he made, it there was no way you could tell him it wasn’t perfect. He hadn’t let you see his final design but a few days later, after it had been fired, you finally saw what he had painted. At the center of the plate, in his almost illegible messy handwriting, read: This is a plate, -Bucky <3.
You shoved the dish all the way back inside one of your kitchen drawers, not wanting to think about it anymore but not wanting to throw away such a meaningful gift. Not yet.
You grabbed another smaller box and shoved all the clothes Bucky had left behind over the months. A couple of Henleys, some underwear, his leather jacket, and the gloves he’d stopped wearing.
“Not today, Doll.” He’d smiled, lowering your hands holding the leather gloves. “I don’t need them when I’m with you.”
Before you could think about it too much, you opened your door and walked over to his apartment with his things. You dropped the box at his doorstep and turned to leave but you heard his locks turn.
A gasp got caught in your throat and you were almost positive your heart missed a beat. The plan wasn’t to see him, you weren’t ready to see him. Maybe you could make a run for it? But it would be too obvious! You’ll look ridiculous! Maybe you can play dead? It works for dogs!
But before you could make a decision, you heard his voice. The sweet tone he reserved just for your ears, soft and comforting.
“Hi.” His smile was small not reaching his eyes. “How are you?”
You tried to swallow the lump in your throat and nod. “I’m okay. I thought it was time to drop your things off.”
“Oh,” His usual crystal blue eyes now adorned an all too familiar red hue, the bags under his eyes big and purple. But before you could feel sorry, a cheery voice appeared from the inside of his apartment.
“We should be leaving soon.” A woman came into view, her tactical suit showed you she worked with Bucky but the way her arm rested on his shoulder showed you she’s more than just a coworker. “Wouldn’t want to miss our reservation.”
You didn’t let your mouth drop to the floor just out of pure pride.
How could I have been so stupid to think Bucky wasn’t over me yet? You thought.
You kicked the cardboard box lightly with the tip of your shoe. “Just wanted to drop off your things.”
Bucky’s eyebrows furrowed, your sudden change of demeanor confused him. But your eyes pingponging from the box to him to Jessica gave him more answers than he needed. He started shaking his head, wanting to explain to you that Jessica didn’t know who you were and that’s why she was saying they were going out. He wanted to explain that the only reason she was in his apartment was because she had to borrow some unmarked guns for her mission. He especially wanted to explain to you that Jessica wasn’t interested in guys like him- actually she wasn’t interested in guys at all!
“You can keep or throw out anything you have of mine, I don’t want it.” You said rolling your eyes, turning to leave but he held your elbow wanting to get even a single word in. But he didn’t get a chance to say anything.
You tugged your arm back and left, closing your apartment door with a bang.
The second time was a few weeks after you had given Bucky his belongings. You’d started watching the news again, not caring whenever they showed a picture of him. At least that’s what you told your friends. You finally returned to your favorite coffee shop, even though it hurt when the barista asked where your boyfriend was. You’d managed to say it was just you this time but were too distracted with your own thoughts to see the glimmer in the guy’s eyes when you said it.
Today was an especially important day, your first run since the breakup. You welcomed the familiar burn in your lungs and the feeling of freedom. You jogged up to the door of your apartment just to see a brown paper bag with your name on it. You eyed it quizzically, looking around to figure out if you could spot who left it. But inside was a harmless coffee with a note written on the side: What’s a morning run without your morning coffee?
At first it made you smile, thinking about all the times you would drink coffee with Bucky. A little slice of normalcy and routine in his otherwise chaotic world. That ritual the two of you created was one of the only things he could control.
But the sweet thoughts turned sour as you remembered the blonde’s arm on Bucky. Who the hell does he think he is? He can go out and date but you? You have to be constantly reminded of the relationship?
I don’t fucking think so.
You marched up the stairs straight to his door and banged on it three times. You didn’t mind the time, you knew he was up since sunrise.
No answer. You brought your fist up to the door again and knocked five times, your patience running thin and your energy low.
A few seconds later a messy haired groggy Bucky opened up, rubbing his eyes with the back of his palms.
“You were asleep?” You forgot why you were here in the first place, more concerned about the fact that your ex-boyfriend who never slept in past 5:45 and was now barely waking up at 8 am! Had he not been sleeping at night? Was he getting nightmares again? Was he benched from the team?
“Was, past tense.” He yawned. “What’s wrong? Are you okay?”
His kind blue eyes convinced you for a second but the coffee in your hand reminded you of your anger.
“I wanted to hand deliver this.” You pushed the coffee into his chest. “And to tell you that these mind games you’re playing are not working. I’m done, we’re done. So don’t come here wanting to stir up things that have been buried. We used to drink coffee after our runs but not anymore, not together at least! So stop it, and I don’t want it.”
Bucky’s eyes widened as he looked down at the drink in his hands. You’d left him speechless. Truthfully, leaving the big and scary Winter Soldier inarticulate did wonders for your self-esteem-
“Did you read the other side of the cup?” Bucky asked in an annoyed tone.
“What?”
He rolled his eyes and turned the cup, bringing it close to your face. “The back of the coffee says: Come into the coffee shop for a free pastry and a date – Jack.”
You felt your face blush, heat consuming your whole body.
“I-when- I didn’t read-“ You stammered.
“Are we done here?” Bucky raised his eyebrows. “I’m sure you’re getting flooded with date propositions but could we keep the ‘bragging about it to your ex’ to a minimum?”
You furiously nodded and whispered a small: “Sorry about that.”
The third time was four months after the breakup. You thought you were doing great, making progress. You’d been on a date or two that didn’t amount to anything but it counted, right? Everything seemed normal until you heard about the last mission.
You had turned on the TV and the news station was doing a 24hr coverage of a rescue mission. Something about super soldier serums being reproduced and hostages being taken. You didn’t need to see him on the screen to know he was there. An unusual feeling gnawed at your chest.
Before, when you were dating, you would get anxious about him going on missions but this time it was different. Like you knew something bad was going to happen.
And then you saw the coverage, the warehouse had been wired with explosives. Every wall blown up into ashes. “There have been no survivors until now.” The newscaster said.
Your heart races thinking of him. This can’t be true, right? You know there’s no possibility of him not being there, he’s the one who is supposed to handle super soldiers for fucks sake! But the thought of him not making it is out of the question. You cannot even process the information. A shocking sob rips through your chest as you hear the total fatalities number rise.
You had wanted to be informed of everything happening but at some point in the night, you fell asleep with the TV turned on. A faint noise woke you up, your senses heightened to a thousand. You brought closer the sleeves of one of Bucky’s heneleys that had been mixed up with the clothes at the back of your closet and took in his faint scent. But then you heard it again, the unmissable groan of his apartment door. You told him to get it fixed a thousand times but he would always say: “Just because something’s old doesn’t mean it needs to be fixed.”
You rushed outside and saw him, opening his apartment door. You couldn’t believe it, were you dreaming?
You ran to him and just as he turned around you wrapped your arms around him, you couldn’t help the tears running down your face.
“Is there something wrong?” Bucky asked, worry written all over your face, as he brushed the hair off of your face. “Are you hurt.”
A laugh ripped through your chest and you shoved his shoulder. “Wrong with me? You scared me half to death! I though you didn’t make it.”
You whispered the last part, wanting to hide the tremble in your voice.
He took your head in his hands, placing a kiss on your forehead. “I’m all right doll, see, I’m still in one piece.”
You nodded and sniffled, bringing your head to his chest.
“I’ve been looking for this.” Bucky let out a small laugh, placing kisses on the top of your head, while tugging on his shirt. But before you could tell him he could have it back, he said: “Keep it, it looks better on you.”
The fourth time you showed up at Bucky’s place unexpected was a month later. For about a week, you’d been getting this weird feeling. You had seen the same person twice in the subway and then once turning the corner to your apartment. At first, you thought it was a coincidence but today was the third day you saw the same man. Bucky had taught you that whenever you feel in danger you should go around the block once. No person that isn’t following you is going to turn right twice, ending up in the same spot you started. He said that if after doing that, they were still on your tail you should immediately go to his place. No matter the time and no matter the situation.
You looked over your shoulder before turning right for the fourth time hoping the man would enter one of the many apartments or stores lining your street. Maybe he was lost? But no, he kept his pace following you. Your breath hitched as you considered your options. A) Lead this person straight to your apartment and get murdered or B) Face your ex-boyfriend.
You considered option A for a second, it would be less awkward. But you shook your head. You rushed up the stairs and made use of the spare key to Bucky’s apartment you hadn’t returned. You quickly closed the door and leaned back on it, trying to regain your breath. You did as you were once told, you grabbed the gun from underneath his dining room table and pointed at the door until he got home.
An hour later, you saw the lock turn and the door slowly open. You pointed the gun straight on and waited for whoever was behind the door to come in.
“It’s just me,” You heard Bucky’s voice before he came in. “You’re safe.”
You let out a breath as he came into view, setting the gun back on the table. “How’d you know I was here?”
“You think I don’t have cameras?” Bucky chuckled as he lowered his work backpack onto the kitchen island. “I saw you snooping around, by the way.”
The corners of your lips turned upwards, partly because you were caught but mostly because you didn’t find any indications that there had been a woman in his place.
“What happened?” He asked, sitting across from you.
“I think I’m being followed.” You chewed on your bottom lip nervously.
“Think?” Bucky asked with raised eyebrows.
“The same man has been following me from my apartment to work and back for the past week. And he’s not even being sneaky about it. We’ve made eye-contact and everything.”
Bucky ran his hand across his face. “And you waited a week to tell me?!”
“Well I’m sorry if I’m not totally comfortable telling my ex that someone is following me!” You rolled your eyes. “Anyways, I did what you told me and now I’m here.”
“I took a picture of him when he wasn’t looking.” You pushed your phone closer to Bucky only to see the color drain out of his face. “What’s the matter?”
“The-these- this guy, I saw him at the warehouse.” Bucky muttered. “They’re sending me a message.”
“What are we going to do?” You asked quietly.
Bucky’s nostrils flared as he got filled with rage. “We? We aren’t doing anything. I am going to go to them and kill every single one. I don’t care- they’re dead tomorrow morning.”
“Buck-“ You placed a hand on his chest but he turned around, getting up from the table. He paced around his apartment, face red with anger. “Buck! Stop!”
His eyes darkened. “Stop? Stop and do what? Wait until they hurt the woman that I love? I’m not going to just sit back and take the high road. They deserve to be in the ground and I’m going to make sure it happens. No one can get near you. I’ve worked too hard and sacrificed so much already for them to get close to you.”
“They’ve gotten too close already. I shouldn’t have let them, but they’re here now. And they’re going to see what happens when you piss me off. I broke my heart in two just to make sure you were going to be safe. And they won’t take that away from you, not your safety. I will do whatever is necessary.”
You gasped at his words.
“Is that- is that why-“ Bucky didn’t let you finish, his saddened gaze gave you the answer.
“Do you love me?” You asked him, your heart speaking the words your brain couldn’t let you pronounce. His eyes were set on the ground. You took two steps to him, grabbing his face and looking into his eyes.
“Tell me you don’t love me and I’ll drop it. We never have to talk about this again, we’ll finish with the mercenaries and I will never speak a word to you again. Just say the words. Tell me you don’t love me.”
Worried creases appeared on Bucky’s forehead, battling with himself. “I could never keep you safe. You will always be in danger.”
“Say it.” You ordered. “Say that you don’t love me but know that it won’t go away. I will always be something they hang over your head because I’ll love you forever.”
His steel blue eyes met yours and looked down at your lips.
“I’ll never be safe, but that’s a price I’m willing to pay if it means I get to spend even a minute back in your arms.” You whispered.
Bucky crashed his lips into yours, a rushed and feverish kiss that had you seeing stars. The type that has you gasping for air but not knowing that if it is your last, it was worth it. Bucky pulled you closer to him, his cologne and desperation made you dizzy.
“I’ll love you forever.” He whispered once you separated. “I promise to keep you safe, I’ll do whatever I have to. I cannot be without you, I was a fool to think I could.”
You smiled into his lips but his warmth left too soon.
Bucky placed another kiss on your lips before walking to the door. “I’ll be home soon.”
“Where are you going?” You gripped his arm, wanting nothing more than for him to come back to you.
He brought your hand to his mouth, placing a chaste kiss on your knuckles. “Anyone who dares to threaten you gets to see a part of me that I once buried.”
Your eyes met as he counted the bullets inside his gun and slid a knife into his pocket.
“Hurry back home.” You said.
For the first time in months, Bucky let out a smile.

summary: your shitty family is in town and spencer is away, what will you do?
pairing: spencerreid x reader
warnings: heavy family issues, mentions of stress and sickness, very brief mention of abuse (litch not talked about just referenced dw), kinda cursing (just realised i've never warned this before... opps) and i might've missed some!
Tumblr media
My eyes are glued to the screen with a perpetual frown playing on my lips. It’s hard to try to care about my job when I have this looming feeling of dread hanging over me like a cloud. Spencer has been MIA for days now. He left in a hurry on Monday night for a case. It’s Saturday now and he hasn’t been responding to my calls. On top of that, I have dinner with my mother and father. Both of them make it abundantly clear that they’re disappointed in my career choice, which is ridiculous because I’m a lawyer. Not the right kind of lawyer they constantly say. I’m an environmental lawyer and I make good money. The only way to satiate their insufferable whining is with Spencer. They love him. They probably love him more than me at this point. Alas, I will just have to deal with them alone tonight. And today has already been one hell of a day. First, Morgan called me,asking where Spencer was, telling me that they finished and that they should be home soon. He had not come home yet. Secondly, I feel like shit, an allergic reaction, my period and some random nausea all add up to making me feel itchy, gross, and practically vile all over. Thirdly, a huge pimple has decided to pop up on my face and  just know my mother will comment on it. My mother is one of those women who look effortlessly put-together 24/7. I am not one of those women. She does not like women who don’t look effortlessly put together. Aka, she barely tolerates me.
I sigh and close my laptop screen, unable to reread the same few sentences again and again, hoping that they would get into my brain. I’m defending a client, one of my firm's biggest clients, in court next week. They were accused of illegal dumping (dumping they did not commit) and now they’re being sued for 2 million dollars. I slump out of my desk chair and out of my home office, locking it behind me for the weekend ahead. If I have court next week and Spencer is coming home after a difficult case, then we’ll need a day or rest and relaxation together. That is, if he even bothers to come home. I busy myself with getting ready and try to push those thoughts out of my head.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The last hour of my life has been 60 minutes of absolute misery. Why did I ever accept this invite? My mother excuses herself to the bathroom and my father excuses himself for a cigarette, I nod along. Then it hits me… my dad doesn’t smoke anymore. I stare at the door and before I can stop myself my face contorts into a frown once again. Amelia, my sister. The sister that I haven't seen in years. The sister that bullied and abused me throughout our teenage years. Fuck.
“Amelia?” I question, looking at the blonde woman who looks… different. She’s obviously older than I remember, and a bit more… I don’t know how to put it. Her blonde hair surpasses her waist and she seems to be pregnant? Her blue eyes seem dull and lack a certain vividness they used to sparkle with. She’s the typical peaking in high-school mean girl who became a nurse girl. I honestly can’t believe I used to look up to her.
“It’s so good to see you!” She smiles, one of her fake-bitchy smiles and I grimace as she tries to hug me. “I just wanted to know how you’re doing, especially with the baby on the way, I’ll need all the help I can get!”
My heart drops. “Oh!” Is all I can manage. She sits in the seat beside me and I instinctively move further away. Just as I think this stupid dinner can’t get any worse, her pervy fiancé, Johnny, walks in.
“No Spencer?” He smirks. “What? Did you two break up? He was always too vanilla for you, you need a real man-”
“No, sorry. I was just late. I had to come straight from the jet,” Spencer smiles from behind him. My parents' eyes light up, as Amelia and Johnny’s faces fall. I smile appreciatively at him as he hands the flowers he brought over to my parents and sits beside me, a comforting hand on my thigh.
“How’s work, Spencer? My father asks, his undivided attention on Spencer.
“It’s good, strenuous but good. Our cases recently haven’t been too difficult- though there was one that had a puzzle I thought you might enjoy…”
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I walk inside our house behind him, a million thoughts at once flowing through my head. We walk to the kitchen, he sits me down and takes off my shoes for me, a true gentleman.
He presses a kiss to my cheek and smiles. “You look beautiful.”
I just nod back, a small smile on my lips.
“Is everything alright?” He asks, turning to me, his hands resting on my waist.
“Fine,” I tiredly smile. “Just… you know, it’s fine, don’t worry about it.”
“You know, saying that makes me worry more, right?:” He smiles softly, though we both know he’s serious.
“I just… I can’t believe she just showed up, like 7 years  of not seeing her and she just shows up? Like it’s casual? And then asks for our help with her baby? Like she did nothing to me? Like she-” I stop myself, determined not to cry right now.
“Angel, it’s ok, let it out,” he soothes, a hand on my back, rubbing comforting circles.
“I don’t want to cry though, they’re not worth crying over.”
“Then how about we get ready for bed, yeah angel?” He offers, a tired look in his eyes. I nod and press a soft to his perfect lips. He smiles against my mouth, his hands finding the sides of my face. I run a hand through his hair. He pulls away softly, “I love you.”
“I love you too,” I smile. “Thank you for coming, my knight in shining armour.”
“I enjoyed it. Watching your father fail to solve a simple puzzle was amusing.” He smirks, a mischievous glint in his eye as I roll my eyes.
“We’re not all geniuses,” I remind him.
“You are.”
“And how am I a genius?” I chuckle.
“You’re dating me, you clearly have superior taste and intelligence,” he says matter-of-factly. I gigle at his antics and kiss him again. He pulls away and grabs my hand, leading me into our room. We both opt out of brushing our teeth and washing our faces, a makeup wipe sufficing for removing my makeup. He pulls me into bed with him, and finally, after a long week, I finally lie down in bed with him, his arms around me in a bear-hug of sorts. This is heaven. He’s my knight in shining armour. Thank God for Dr. Spencer Reid.

Uncle!Klaus x Niece!Reader | Recommended by: @popfishjr

Tumblr media
It was a dark Saturday evening, your father, Diego, was out doing... whatever Diego does on a dark Saturday evening. So, you decided, what better to do than hang out with your favourite uncle, Uncle Klaus. You rolled out of bed and reached for the phone. Klaus was never busy on a Saturday, usually he would spend his Saturdays with you, so you called him and told him to come pick you up. He agreed, excitedly talking about what he had planned.
"Oh my, dear, dear (Y/N/N), you will LOVE what I have planned today!"
Intrigued, you questioned what he meant however he refused to tell you. Excited to find out what he meant, you rushed to get ready and waited to hear the honk of the horn to tell you that Klaus was there and ready to collect you.
~*~*~*~*~
As you finished doing your hair, you heard the HONK and rushed to put your shoes on and get out of the house. As you shut and locked the door, you turned around to be greeted with the sight of your uncle sat in his car with a child-like smile on his face. Quickly, you walked up to the car, pulled the door open, and sat down next to your uncle.
"Will you tell me what we're doing now?"
"Nope, no chance, you'll find out soon enough!"
As you drove further into the city, you were greeted with bright, fun-coloured lights and you felt the car slow down. Finally, you realised what Klaus had planned. He was taking you to a carnival. You grinned happily, and looked over to Klaus. As you pulled into the parking lot, you got hit with memories from years back when you went to the carnival with Klaus and your dad.
You got out of the car and Klaus grabbed you by the sleeve and dragged you to some of the rides. You screamed from the thrill and held onto your uncle on the rides. Laughs and shrieks of happiness were all that emanated from you and your uncle. Dizzy from the rides, you stumbled over to the cotton candy stands, you giggled as you shared it with your uncle. He reached into his pockets and realised quickly he didn't have enough money to keep paying for all the fun things the both of you wanted.
"Hey, (Y/N/N)? Don't tell your Dad about what I'm about to do."
You looked at him, perplexed, as he stood from the bench and walked over to a wealthy-looking man. You sat there, staring at him, unknowing to what he was about to do. Sneakily, he reached into the mans pockets and pickpocketed some money. You gasped but as Klaus held a finger to his lips playfully you couldn't help but let out a small laugh. You knew Klaus shouldn't be doing that but you were used to a lot of his illegal shenanigans.
Before he could get too far from the man, the victim of the theft realised what had happened and turned around to see Klaus with his money. You heard the man shout and he began to chase Klaus and you. You shot up from the bench, hearing a string of 'Shit!' fall from Klaus' mouth. You ran as fast as you could with your uncle, you ran through some attractions, hoping to lose the man. The man hadn't lost you and Klaus but he had been significantly slowed down so there was now quite a bit of distance between you and the man. You managed to make it to the car and threw yourselves in and sped off before the man could reach you.
As you slowed down, realising the man couldn't get to you anymore, the panic wore off and you and Klaus began to laugh hysterically. You laughed about the incident all the way back to your house. After a long day, you both stumbled into the living room. Too tired to change or even go up to your room, you and klaus collapsed onto the couch and fell asleep quickly.
As chaotic as it was, you deemed it a pretty successful day.

Read this fic. Went feral. Decided I needed to write this dynamic in my own way so here we fucking go.
Younger AU (Eden is 19, reader is 18, they're both orphans getting ready to run away into the forest soon).
Male Eden x AFAB reader (they/them and you pronouns).
Warnings: Eden is the victim, its his POV. Dubcon and bad communication. Creampies/breeding. Mentions of past child abuse and the trauma from it. Hurt and only one of you is getting comfort (it's not Eden lmfao). Loss of virginity. My ass did not proofread. Oh, and Bailey mentions.
Every ounce of his body aches as he practically crawls up the main staircase of the orphanage. A twelve hour shift at the scrap yard will do that to you - especially when you're the young grunt everyone knows is desperate for money. Especially when half of them know that if they break him, if he quits and can't placate the caretaker with cash, they could be buying his ass for a few quid.
Eden's a risk to client health. Couldn't be charging much for him unless broken bones were the desired outcome. And the young man had heard enough rumours of illegal fighting rings to be wary of the possibility that he could be heading to one of them, instead.
Eden tries to shake the fears from his mind while cracking his aching neck. Not anymore. He can't be hurt anymore, not now that he's grown so big. The rat that runs the orphanage hasn't beat him in years because of it and any threats are pretty much empty. Toward Eden, at least.
He reaches his room and stumbles through the threshold yawning, almost missing the shape distorting his bedsheets in the dark. His heart doesn't speed up seeing it, the dark haired man barely even flinches. He already knows what it is, can already hear the sniffling whines coming from below.
Carefully, he pushes the door closed, the click of the lock what finally gets them to scramble out from the cheap polyester-blend sheets with wettened wide eyes that scream for mercy even though no harm has come to them.
Your name is soft on his lips as he holds his arms out, letting his friend fall against him as he steps closer. Pride building within himself as those wide eyes sparkle with relief even if the tears don't stop.
"They- they took Emma a-again," you hyperventilate, struggling to describe what had worked you up so badly. Little words were needed anyway.
Emma was situated in the room beside you. A good friend, a kind friend who shared whatever food she could, when she could. A friend who had barely lived through the last time she was sold.
Eden's large hand comes to the back of your head, cradling it delicately, urging it to rest against his chest as he hushes his dear friend, his sweaty work t-shirt absorbing your tears as they fell. Usually he'd rock you side-to-side, but with your legs still kneeling on the bed he instead kept up with his calming mantras, the assurances he must have muttered a thousand times.
He wasn't good with words, but he'd said these ones enough that they came naturally.
A thousand more times he'd repeat them if he had to. At least until he could get you out of here. He'd been searching for the right place out in that forest, searching hard for somewhere safe. Anywhere safe.
"They're going to take me soon," you whimper, voice cracking as your fingers claw at Eden's clothed back.
"Hey - hey, no. No they won't, I'm not going to let that happen. Me and Bailey both, yeah?"
Your pitiful eyes stare up into his, his reflection in them showing the concerned frown etched into his features. Still, the corners of your lips quiver as you continue.
"I just turned eighteen. He'll come for me soon; he'll come for me like he did everyone else."
It had always been the three of you. Him, Bailey, you. Two older brothers with their sweet little sibling they did their best to hide behind them. It had worked, so far.
You were one of the quiet ones. One of the kids who could fly under the radar, one who didn't inspire hatred from the old toad behind the desk. Unlike Eden and Bailey. The threat of being sold had been over their heads for a year - but the beatings had started way before then. Made them much less scared than the others who were moved to this wing. They were already numb to it.
Corraling you to lay back down doesn't take much effort, not when Eden kicks off his steel-toe boots and joins you on the lumpy mattress. Your head immediately rests on top of his chest, face nuzzling against his neck as he continues to let you treat him as your lifeline.
"We won't be here long enough for him to hurt you, alright? I'm going to keep you safe." He whispers it against the crown of your head, your little secret shared just between the two of you in that moment.
There's a non-committal hum from you, the sound making your lips brush softly against the column of his throat. It tickles, and the dark haired man ignores the shiver it sent down his spine. Just an accidental brush.
A silence creeps in while he holds you, your sobs calming until your breaths are mostly even though still a bit shaky. Each puff blows against his skin, tugging on his nerves and threatening another shiver to come forth. It makes his stomach heavy, knowing that you're here, you're upset, yet he's having this horrible involuntary response to the affection shared.
His mind being so lost is what makes him miss your hand inching down his chest until its cupping his half-hard cock through his pants.
Deathly silence. Silence that prickles his skin worse than your little breaths had.
"... I don't want someone taking my first time from me," your small voice strains.
It's clumsy, how your hand palms him. Clumsy how it rubs against him, the friction of his rough clothes unpleasant against his sensitive flesh. It should be unpleasant how its you doing it, yet another shiver stutters Eden's lungs and forces him to gasp for the missing air.
Those soft, sweet lips meet his throat again, playing ignorant to the scratchy stubble that has to irritate the thin skin - Eden's involuntary gasp seemingly being taken as encouragement.
The young man isn't good with words. He knows to curse out abusers. Knows to fight back, to snarl and kick and punch. You aren't an abuser. You're just scared.
"You love me, right Eden?" Reedy is how you sound as your head lifts, peering down into his green eyes you had once said you thought were a pretty shade. He hadn't believed you then.
Something should be coming out of his throat. Something like 'Yes, I love you. But not like this.' What comes out instead is a clicking noise when your palm presses down once more, the dark haired man's eyes blinking shut as an ounce of pre-cum wets his boxers.
Clothes shuffling calls for his attention, it opens his eyes enough to see your hand sliding below his waistband and into his underwear. All he needs to do is gently grab your wrist. Carefully pull it away and just cuddle you so you know he cares, but he doesn't want this. Eden can't really feel his arms right now.
Your pink little tongue wets your lips again before you lean over him, kissing his slightly chapped ones as your hand finds its mark.
Another gasp from him, another misread response you take as permission to keep going and to flick your tongue against his own while your fingers wrap about his now pitifully hard cock. It's not a shiver this time, it's a jolt that makes the muscles in his left thigh seize for a brief moment.
It's hard to say if you're doing good. He hasn't exactly had any positive experiences in this department, regardless of if he was sold or not. It feels good. The heaviness in his stomach deepens, a sense of guilt and nausea rising in tandem.
Slick noises register in his ears. For a second Eden thinks its himself, or perhaps the kiss he isn't really participating in. It isn't, though, not if your weak moans are anything to go by. It's you, your free hand having disappeared beneath your own pants to... to prepare yourself for him.
"You're so big, Eden." Irreverent, whispered, praised.
Tightness pulls on his balls, licks of pleasure making his toes curl in their socks and making it harder to breathe. His mouth is so dry now, without you kissing him. He shouldn't want your mouth back on his own.
'Please be bored,' Eden pleads to himself when you pull yourself fully away from him. 'Please change your mind - I don't care about still being hard. I can't say no to you, please.'
Instead, your pants are shucked off, thrown and discarded on the old hardwood floor along with your shirt as you get to work pulling his clothes off.
Every action has to be involuntary. It has to be, when Eden doesn't even feel like he's here. He can't be leaning up to help you in your quest to make his chest bare. But he is. He can't be raising his hips to free his legs of the clothing. But he is.
Unsteadily, your body shaking, you climb atop Eden, the plush of your thighs pressing down onto his lower abdomen and hips. So soft, so precious. Just like the smile you're aiming down at him, that love you spoke of shining so clearly through your expression.
He can see the wetness of your cunt from here, the slick liquid having spread to your thighs and dampening the hair down there. Most people shave now, when they're expecting things like this. A small comfort, that you didn't plan this. It didn't stop self hatred banging around his skull at how his cock jumped when your fingers spread your lower lips apart.
It feels as soft as it looked when you slowly sink down. Eden was still paralysed, despite the intensity of your heat and how it suctioned him in. He still couldn't move. Until you whined in pain and rose from his lap an inch or two.
That's the trigger that gave him his strength back. You, in pain. You, needing comfort.
Shooting up from his laying position, Eden's arms were around your waist in a second, his voice back to hushing and comforting. Your face back to his neck as you hummed along to his words, relaxing once more as you tried again.
He should stop you. He could have stopped you, this time. He shouldn't have pushed his hips up, shouldn't have let his eye twitch at how fucking good you felt wrapped around his shaft as some part of his brain screamed at him to fuck up into the heaven he found himself in.
The guilt stayed his movements. It stayed them until you cautiously began to bounce, used to the stretch of him now and eager to feel good. Then, Eden's arms almost crushed you against his chest, halting your hips as his own began a bucking rhythm.
'Let it feel right,' part of him insisted, raising the pit in his stomach to a calm plateau.
Pretty is what your voice sounds like in his ear. Pretty as you babble on about how nice it is, how he fills you just right and how you won't let anyone else ever touch you again. How you're his, you promise.
It's not a bad thing, right? It just means you'll always need him, just as you have before. You'll be a constant even as things change. And Eden hates change. But this isn't really change, is it?
It feels too damn good to last long. Too great, too much suction pulling his head further and further away from any semblance of reason.
Wanton noises spill from you, high pitched keening as you take every inch of him you can while your body quivers in his embrace.
What finally pushes Eden over the edge is the predictable, suffocating ever tightening walls of your cunt spasming around him - massaging his length and milking him dry of his seed. Too late now to realise you hadn't used a condom. Too late now to consider that a third might be coming to the forest with them that isn't Bailey.
Exhaustion hits him like a truck, not just his body, but a deep haze over his mind that pushes him back down to his pillow with your sweat glistening body falling on top of his own. The ceiling is so bare. Most ceilings are, he realises, just white voids to stare up at unless they've got that horrible popcorn shit on them. You haven't pulled him out of you.
You don't pull him out of you. You keep him there, even as you snuggle close and almost sing your love to him despite the fact that you're whispering still.
He has work again in the morning. Eden can't sleep. You snore softly, resting on top of him. He tries to reason that it's because his socks are still on, and that's just not comfortable. He tries to keep his breathing calm, even when it's trying it's best to run away from him.

Look we all know Mr. Higgins is the real star of the new comics. Here is a fic about him adopting Marvin, all while Marvin finds himself struggling desperately against the memory control of the Magic Circle. Written after Altrverse #0, extrapolations are probably not canon to anything. Thanks for reading, let me know if you enjoy!
.
The excitement of a new book always fills him with verve enough to keep him up late into the night. His shop is warm, a green fire burning without wood or fuel along the back wall, and his scalp tingles with every new sigil passing through his vision.
The fact that it's an extremely illegal book to own only makes it more exciting for Marvin.
He's almost laid out over the counter, bent low over the pages, his free hand wrapped around a third mug of hot mint tea – got to have something to go with the book, after all – when the door to the shop jingles. He'd meant to lock up for the night, but he hadn't managed to tear himself away. “Come in!” he calls distractedly, pressing his hand over a complex sigil shaped like a pair of antlers.
No footsteps sound. Marvin looks up quickly, his mind conjuring images of the twins in full regalia in his doorway, ready to strip him of his power for the transgression of his black magic book, but no one's there.
He can't decide if that's worse or better.
“Hello?” he calls, voice sharpening. He can handle most magicians, and certainly any civilians. But if this is the Magic Circle trying games with him, he won't be playing. “Reveal yourself.”
Something shifts by the bookshelf closest to the door. Marvin gets to his feet, book forgotten, and fixes his mask back over his face. He'll address this head on. He summons a spell and transports the four feet to be on the other side of his bookshelf, purple light gleaming for a second in his wake, alighting on his hand markings.
“Meow?” says a little grey and white cat.
Marvin stops short, mouth falling open in delight. The tension rushes out of him so fast his face feels cold. He claps his hands together and falls to his knees. “Hello, there, darling, aren't you a pretty sight? I wouldn't have thought a cat could get through that door, or you wouldn't have set me so on alert, you know! You must have really wanted in.”
He glances up at the door. Really, how did a cat push through that? The cat mewls at him again.
“Oh, come here, poor thing.”
He scratches his fingers against the carpet. The cat looks at him with interest, sitting down beside his shelves. It has remarkably clear eyes, blinking languidly at him, tail flicking. It's so calm Marvin just approaches it, putting a hand on its head and stroking down its grey back. It closes its eyes and purrs minutely, completely unhurried.
“Yes, there's a good little creature,” Marvin laughs. He pulls his hand away at a tacky sensation and finds his palm coated in dirt and dust. He sits petting the cat for several minutes, until the creature flops onto its side and exposes its belly to him. It's a male cat, purring loudly at him now, those cute paws folded in the air. Marvin laughs.
“You are a sight for sore eyes. But I can't have you tearing up the carpet or peeing on my books, kitten. Tell you what, I'll get you something to eat from upstairs and set it outside for you. Okay? Be right back.”
He heads upstairs to his flat and gets into the fridge, setting several strips of deli meat onto a plate for the cat. Maybe he'll take some pictures of the little guy as he eats. It would be nice to have a cat coming around every now and then. He had cats as a kid, in his family home, before he had to... well, before everything that happened. He loved them enough to shape his mask after them, but he's never had the free time for a pet. At this point, he's not even sure he has the safety for a pet. If the Circle finds out...
Well. Seeing as he himself isn't even aware of what he's doing half the time, he's hoping the chances of being discovered are slim.
Marvin sighs and heads back downstairs, clicking his tongue at the cat as he walks to the door and opens it. He sets the dish on the ground, but the cat hasn't moved, just looking at him from the carpet inside.
“Oh, you're comfy there, are you?” Marvin chuckles. “I understand. But you better have something to eat. Come here, then.”
The cat doesn't get up. Marvin sighs again, stepping over to him. “Sorry, my darling, but you can't stay in here.”
He leans down to pick the cat up. He doesn't struggle at all – well-behaved little thing – but as Marvin sets a foot outside, he sees a droplet of dark grey appear on the pavement beside it.
He frowns and looks up. A drop of water strikes his cheek.
“Really, right now?”
He's used to UK rain, but it's only a moment or two later that a full torrential downpour is pushing him back inside the shop. He curses and grabs the deli meat, pulling the dish inside. The cat leans down and delicately begins eating.
“Oh, lucky bugger,” Marvin says, shaking his head. “You're sure you're not a magic spy cat or something? A man disguised as a cat to trick me?”
The cat finishes the turkey and leans down to begin licking his anus.
“Alright, yeah, not a spy.”
Marvin looks out at the rain, coming down aggressively onto the awning and beating a cold rhythm through the shop. The cat polishes himself up politely at Marvin's feet. Poor dirty thing. Maybe he has an owner who's looking for him.
“Alright, then,” Marvin says, leaning down to pick the cat up once more. “You can stay just for tonight, while I figure out what to do with you.”
The cat pushes its head into his chin and purrs.
.
"Why do you have this? Where did you get it?"
"Would you just look?"
Sunday chooses to look up at him instead, something between astonishment and dismay arguing on his face. "Marvin..."
Marvin sighs out and taps the front of the book. "I have some contacts from my old mentor. They found this for me."
"Marvin, Ramesses wasn't exactly the kind of magician the Circle would approve of."
"You think I don't know that?"
Sunday sighs and rubs at the ear of his mask - a pretty cute form of self-soothing, really. After a moment, he flicks open the pages of the book.
"How's your memory today?" Marvin asks, trying not to sound too strained.
"What do you mean, my memory?"
"Do you remember that the Circle has been wiping things from our heads?" Marvin insists, clutching at the table.
Sunday's eyes flicker. "Right. That's... why we're looking at things like this."
"Right," Marvin agrees, relieved. "That's why we need help from magicians like Ramesses. Ones who know what's really going on. We need to find a way to keep them out of our heads."
It's dangerous stuff, but he and Sunday have had that discussion. Marvin has to trust that he's going to stay on board even as both of their memories ebb and flow. He desperately needs someone to help him remember. It's infuriating, knowing that the people who are supposed to be helping magicians are just taking control of them instead. Marvin won't be their puppet.
"This is the spell you're looking at?" asks Sunday.
"Yes. To protect someone from mind magic."
"You can't cast that alone."
"Help me, then!"
"We can't cast this alone," Sunday corrects. "You would need a huge group or an artifact."
"I have some magical artifacts."
"Not ones with enough power."
"Sunday, please."
"Marvin." His friend looks up at him sharply. "I know how deep we are in over our heads, but that's why we must be careful. You don't even know if this spell will work. It could harm you, change you, burn you out. Start with some of the smaller ones... look, this can imbue an object with the magic to see things for you. A looking glass of its own. And I'm sure you've been scrying."
Marvin grits his teeth. Yes, he's been scrying. All he sees is black wisps and red eyes through the darkness. Something is coming, and he can't stop it without knowing his mind is secure. He needs to expel the twins from the Magic Circle, needs to have a group of magicians he can trust, needs to -
"Marvin," says Sunday again. "You're working yourself up."
His sigils are glowing. He turns away bitterly, clutching his hands into fists.
"We're going to figure it out," Sunday says wearily. "You have to believe that. But you can't hurt yourself."
He sets the book down. "I need to get going. Not all of us get to run our own bookstores. I'll text you tomorrow after work, okay?"
"Fine," says Marvin. "Fine."
"Whoa, wait, is this yours?"
Marvin looks over to see the stray cat coming out of his bedroom, sitting down beside Sunday to regard him warily. It meows at him loudly enough that Sunday chuckles.
"No, I just took him in for a couple nights," Marvin sighs. "Trying to find his owner."
"And if he doesn't have one?"
"I don't know." He really doesn't. The cat's super cute, but Marvin has a lot going on. "I don't think I've got time for a cat. I get a little focused on one thing at a time."
Sunday gives him a look of disbelief. "A little?"
"Oh, shut it."
Sunday rubs the cat's head for a moment before standing. "We'll figure this out," he repeats. "Don't lose hope."
"I need you to give me some," Marvin says wearily.
Sunday touches his shoulder and grins at him, just as tired, but there's nothing more he can say. Once he's gone, Marvin sinks onto the couch, sighing deep. The cat jumps up beside him.
"You want to switch places?" Marvin asks, reaching out to scratch his chin. "I'll sleep and eat all day and you can go back to a place where you know you'll be brainwashed every time they call for you. You don't know how sick it makes me... but then, of course, I forget, and I'm theirs again."
He almost sinks in on himself, then, just wanting to melt into the couch. But the cat gets into his lap and meows at him, and the stink of his breath makes him laugh and pull back, and he sits up and pets him for a while instead of crumpling into his own dismay.
.
“Well, he's not got fleas or ticks or anything.”
The vet runs her hands professionally over the disgruntled cat, looking through his fur and petting his head. He turns to Marvin like he's expecting him to come help, and Marvin stifles a laugh. He's an expressive cat, really. Must have been good at begging for scraps.
“Really, none?”
“No," says the vet. "Why, did you see some?”
“No, it's just, I figured a stray cat would have one. You sure he's not chipped either?”
“No chip,” the vet confirms, running her hands over the cat. “How long have you had him?”
“Five days now. I called the animal shelter and posted online in case anyone is looking for him.”
“You can check our board in case someone's posted that he's lost.”
“Alright, will do.”
“But he's neutered and all, so you don't have to worry about that.”
“Good,” says Marvin emphatically. “I've never met such a headstrong cat. I don't think he'd let anybody get down there with scissors.”
“Oh, but he's such a well-mannered little boy,” coos the vet, petting the cat's head. The cat purrs.
“Yeah, now,” Marvin laughs. “But if you do something he doesn't like, he will let you know. I think he's capable of revenge.”
They have a laugh about it and the vet gets ready to give him some shots. When she gets out a syringe, the cat raises his butt like he's ready to bolt, but Marvin grabs his scruff sharply and leans down to chide him.
“Everybody has to get shots, Higgins,” he says. “You behave. You can't come home if you're not healthy.”
“Oh, no, you've named him,” smiles the vet.
Marvin puffs out a sigh. “I have, haven't I? I didn't mean to. But doesn't he look just like a little Mr. Higgins? Who's the prettiest boy?”
Mr. Higgins shoots him a disgruntled look, but he allows the vet to pin him down gently and give him his shots. Soon as they're done, he nips Marvin's thumb with his teeth.
“Yeah, yeah, I get it,” says Marvin, pushing him back into the carrier. “We'll check the board and then get you home.”
He's still not sure he wants a cat, but Higgins keeps trying to sleep in his bed, so Marvin figured he'd be responsible and get him checked over before they both get fleas. "You might not get to stick around forever," he tells the cat. "But I'll take care of you while you do."
But as he gets out to the reception of the vet's clinic, looking at their board of announcements and missing pet posters, he realizes he doesn't mind having the cat around. And this is how people get cats, right? They just take one in for a night, and then the cat adopts you. It's not like there's much going on for him right now, anyone. Things are good at the shop and with the Magic Circle. Everything's -
Higgins lets out a meow so loud other people turn to look at him, and so does Marvin, surprised. He's reminded of Higgins meowing at Sunday, who was over at his place to - to what?
To look at that black magic book...
Which he got because... because... why? Why is he looking at magic like that?
Higgins meows again, a little strangled. Marvin looks into his big, languid cat's eyes. Because...
The Circle is fucking with his head.
The realization hits him like a baseball in the chest, but even as it does, he knows this isn't the first time he's realized it. They keep making him forget - forget - forget.
He's a fucking puppet.
Marvin pushes himself out of the vet's office, vision blurry with frustrated tears.
"It keeps happening," he says to Higgins, voice tight. "I can't make them stop."
Higgins looks up at him from his carrier. The cat's quiet now, not struggling or meowing. Just looking at him.
"Yeah, you might not want me for an owner," sighs Marvin. "Fucked up head and a fucked up mess I can't seem to get myself out of."
Higgins lets out one little meow. Okay. That's pretty cute too. Marvin tries to get over himself. The self-pity won't help. Maybe, when he gets home, he can focus on getting Higgins a treat instead, since he was such a little gentleman at the vet.
.
Knowing that Sunday is right about the spell he wants to try doesn't it make it any easier to resist.
In fact, he thinks it makes it harder. Who is Sunday to tell Marvin what he's capable of?
He's always had that proud streak, and he knows it. Wanting to be the best at everything has served Marvin well in some parts of his life, but he's also been called cocky, overzealous, and, on one occasion, "basically a rat going to town on a Cheeto when it comes to magic," and all for good reason.
Higgins has hopped up on the kitchen counter, sitting beside the black magic book. Everytime Marvin looks over at it, he meows pointedly. If he didn't know better, he'd say the little miscreant was trying to warn him away too.
"It's just a spell," Marvin tells him, pacing around his living room. "I've never died trying stupid spells before. And I have tried some damn powerful spells."
He's good at powerful spells. He's a powerful fucking sorceror. It's why he was picked for this, mentored so intensely, sculpted to be better, better, better. The Magic Circle has its rules, but it should never have become a means to control him or restrain him. They can't take his own mind for him. He won't allow it!
"No one else is doing anything about it," he says to Higgins. "Sunday's the only one who's been able to hear me out and not forget everything the very next day. And even him, I have to remind again and again, and he has to remind me."
Higgins says "mrrp."
"Well, it's not like I can just leave the Magic Circle! All magical authority comes from them, and the twins - well. I have a lot to learn from the twins. Things the outsiders will never have access to. No, I need to be the one to take this all down from the inside. I'll cleanse it with fire if I have to! Or else - or else what will happen? We'll all be their slaves forever."
No. No. He won't be their tool. He grabs the black book. Higgins yowls.
"There is food for you in your bowl," Marvin chides him, heading towards the stairs. "Stay up here!"
Higgins tries to follow him down to the shop, and Marvin has to push him away with his foot, closing the door on him. Higgins makes a noise that can't be anything other than annoyed.
"Needy thing," Marvin chides, heading down the stairs, but it's soon gone from his mind. He's really going to try a new spell, one that might exorcise the twins's control over him. There's no rush like this, he loves it. New books, new spells, new magic. This is what he was born and trained for.
"Sunday doesn't know what I can do," Marvin says, putting his book down on his desk. This time, he makes sure the door to the shop is locked. "And neither do the fucking twins."
Mensprotego, not the original name of the spell, to be sure. It's Romanian in origin and the name is just some Latin combination of phrases given to it to lend it a feeling of power. But Marvin knows the real power of it as he traces the words over the spell. He draws his sigils with precision - he should have known when he was practicing the unfamiliar ones that he would always end up trying this alone - and sticks a mandrake leaf against the roof of his mouth, as the spell instructs. For extra energy, he'll use Ramesses's old staff.
It's good to grip it in his hands again. Even after all this time, he still thinks he can feel his mentor with him every time he holds it. Sometimes, he even gets the nostalgic smell of fire and the Vaseline he would smear over his scarring.
"Help me once again," he asks, pulling the staff over to his counter.
The power rushes up over him like a wave of water as he starts to speak. It's a strange sort of spell, the way it coasts over him, like it's sending sparks into him, a mini electrification that keeps repeating across his body - and keeps getting stronger. He wets his lips and keeps going. He's more used to magic that makes you feel tired as you use too much, but this! This is invigorating. His heart starts to pound. He can feel it against his chest. The electricity feeling makes him cramp, his fingers squeezing at the staff, and then his tongue sticks to his mouth. Wow. It kind of makes it hard to move. Kind of hurts.
Another wave of it grips him, and he pauses, breathing out and giving himself the chance to stop.
But then what will happen? Nothing. Things will keep going as they are. He can't take it. He has to keep going. To keep trying something new.
"I will not be yours," he whispers, and, clearing his throat, speaks the last words of the spell.
Everything explodes with light, blinding him, and a hot, raw pain bursts across him, his whole body lit up with purple markings, his eyes aglow, though he cannot see through them. He gasps and his body tries to crumple, but another wave of it crosses over him, shocking him stiff, unable to even collapse. Still, he clings to the spell, to the magic, vying hard for protection. If he can just get free, nothing else matters. He'll recover later, won't he? If he can just protect himself -
Something sharp clenches down on his ankle and he yells. The different kind of pain snaps him out of everything, and he drops Ramesses's staff, falling to his knees, still blind to all but his own light.
The electricity stops, but he thinks his brain might have short-circuited with it. He feels himself start to shake - maybe even to seize - he drops to the ground -
He loses consciousness to the sound of something scraping at his sigils with its claws.
.
Marvin wakes to the heavy smell of blood in his nose, and his fingers come up towards it instinctively, shaky and unsure.
"Ungh," he groans, shifting against the cold wood of his shop's backroom. He spits out a mandrake leaf, smacking his tongue at the odorous taste.
Marvin tries to push his glasses back into place, only to find the right temple snapped off its hinge, the glass cracked at the side. He pulls them off his face and sits up.
It makes his head rush painfully. Owch. There's blood all the way from his nose to his chin.
Okay, okay. Fine. He went way too far. Sunday's right, he's pushing too hard. Worse, he's not sure what would have happened if he didn't have that sharp pain.
He pulls his ankle up to himself as he sits down. Wait - that is distinctly a cat bite.
Setting his leg down, he lets his head thump back in surprise. Higgins saved him. Did he know he was in distress, or just get scared by the light and shaking?
"Higgs?" he calls. "You here?"
No little feet come padding towards him. He drags himself onto his feet - his poor head, owch - and stumbles towards the bathroom, washing his face off and swishing water around his mouth to clear out the copper taste.
"Maybe I don't tell Sunday about this," he mutters. He's made himself sick for certain. He won't feel well in the morning either. What's he going to do? Just -- with all of it, what is he doing?
The tears prick up against his will and he scowls at himself in the mirror, brushing at his eyes with the un-bloodied side of a washcloth. He strikes the flat of his palm against the bathroom counter and breathes. He can't let the twins or the council keep misusing their magic. He promised Ramesses he'd find a way.
But honestly, he just really wants to sleep for about twelve years or so. Feels like that would fix everything. Why does all this have to be on his shoulders alone?
"Not crying, we are not crying about this," he announces to himself, tossing the washcloth in the sink and stepping back into his living room. He crashes onto his couch and his head swims again from the movement. He covers his face from the light and breathes out slowly.
"Meow."
It's a very professional little meow, no wailing or pleading involved. Marvin pulls his arm away from his eyes and blinks towards the floor, where Higgins looks up at him carefully.
"Meow," he repeats.
"You want up here?" asks Marvin. He pats the little space beside his stomach. "You can come on."
Higgins doesn't move, peering up at him. He has eyes like a little man sometimes. Marvin prefers him playing, when his pupils get dilated huge and he just looks like the cute dumbass he's supposed to be.
"Yes, alright, I went too far," Marvin sighs. "What, are you angry? I'm sorry."
Higgins wraps his tail daintily around himself, blinking. Marvin sits up with a sigh and reaches for him.
Higgins say "mrrp" a little irritably, but he lets Marvin pull him onto his stomach and set him down there, stroking his head. After a few quiet minutes, Higgins settles and starts to purr gently.
"What a good boy," Marvin murmurs, scratching his ears as he lies back. "Did you know I needed help?"
Higgins looks at him with slitted eyes, rumbling.
"You got me out of that," Marvin continues. "You've never bit me like that before. Did I scare you? I'm sorry."
Higgins gets up slightly and Marvin mourns the loss of the warmth. But his cat doesn't hop off the couch. He just clambers higher up Marvin and pushes his soft head into his neck.
Marvin's face creases and the tears burn his eyes again. He blinks rapidly and wraps his arms around the hot little body of his cat.
"There's my good boy," Marvin rasps, holding him close. "My hero, aren't you? What a good cat."
He hugs Higgins close to him, closing his eyes, and for several minutes interrupted only by steady purring, he does cry. Maybe it's okay. No one's here to see him, and he'll feel better afterwards. Higgins licks the salt from his beard.
"Thank you, lovey," Marvin purrs back to him, scratching his back. "I know someone's got my back, don't I?"
Higgins meows loudly at him and Marvin laughs, wiping his face.
"Yuck, cat breath. You must be hungry. I'll fill your bowl, okay? And I better get something for me, too. Maybe a treat tonight. You think there are delivery places open twenty-four seven?"
Apparently it's not abnormal for someone to want pad see-ew at two in the morning, because his food comes less than fifteen minutes later. It hurts his head to go down the stairs, but it's euphoric to crash on his couch with several hot boxes of takeout arrayed on his coffee table. He puts on a Ghibli flick and spaces out hard, kept in the moment just by the sweet noodles and broccoli, the flashing colors of a movie he's seen a hundred times, and his cat, who jumps right back onto his lap and tries to get his head into the takeout box. Marvin lets him have a little too much chicken, but he's such a good boy, he deserves it. It's nice, really. It's nice to have this cat, purring on his chest as he sinks towards a deep sleep.
He thinks Higgins is asleep too.
.
Marvin wakes up feeling sick.
"Oh, my darling," he groans, feeling Higgins move as he does. "What did I do last night?"
He sits up slowly, glancing around his living room. He got take-out? He's usually so strict about eating at home. Did he drink?
"Well, I must have," he breathes, standing. He goes to his kitchen, but there's nothing out, no empty bottles or discarded lids. There's nothing in the trash out of the ordinary either. He didn't go out, right? He checks his phone, but he hasn't talked to anyone since yesterday. He wasn't out with friends, and he's sure he had no one over.
He's still trying to figure out what happened as he heads towards the bathroom, but the bloody washcloth in the sink stops him short. Marvin shakes his head, bewildered, and a little worried too, now. What is going on?
Higgins meows at him. He glances down at his cat. Higgins moves between his legs and then, apropos of nothing, puts his little teeth in Marvin's heel.
"Ow! Higgins! You - you bit me..."
He was trying that spell last night. He made himself sick with overuse. Higgins bit his ankle.
"Oh, oh," he whimpers, trying not to spiral. "They have such a grip on my memory I even forgot my own endeavors. They're in my house. In my head. I can't... I can't, I..."
He sinks down to his knees, shaking. His fingers press against the cold tile floor, and he sucks in shaking breaths, the fury and the terror passing over and through him like a great wave of heat.
"No more," he snarls, striking his hand against the floor. "No more of this. I will remember anything they take from me. Again and again, as much as I lose, I will get it back no matter what. I'll remember. And then I'll fight."
He turns his head and presses his hand against his cat's head. Higgins looks up at him with those sharp eyes, his fur soft against the palm of his hand.
"And you're going to help me, aren't you, my darling?"
He really does think that he sees that cat nod in that moment. The oddest part is, it doesn't even really surprise him.
"Right, then," Marvin breathes, his panic clearing. "Right. Back on your feet, Marvin, and no more sulking. Anyway, you got to get the cat fed."
Higgins' eyes dilate and his tail stands straight up. Marvin finds himself laughing despite everything.
"Okay, okay. One thing at a time."
He kisses his cat on the head, and goes to get him his breakfast. The rest will come - and he'll be ready.

My Byzantine Romance : Ohma Tokita X (F) Reader
It's been a few months, since the incident, You've been living a less promising life than before, but you were fine with it, you had real freedom. Freedom to do whatever you want. You've dyed your hair, burned your clothes, bought a new phone, and with proper networking, have gotten yourself a new name. What they do with your government, you didn't care, that life was behind you now, who you were before died along with your family that day.
You've been living on ends meet, paycheck to paycheck, meal to meal, living in your small, crummy apartment, it wasn't an ideal place, but you had to start somewhere. That guy from all those nights ago never left your mind after that, he was still pretty heavy on your thoughts, he was different, he was the definition of free. Bound to no laws, no fears, no responsibilities, he was his own self-made man... but you never saw him again after that night. You did, however, see Mr. Yamashita quite often. He was a sweet older man, 56 years old and still pushing.
He was the one who helped you get your own apartment, a job, and some form of income to help out, you owed him your life. You would visit him from time to time. You'd cook for him, help him clean, give him company. You could've lived with him, but you didn't want to be a burden, he did let you know that his doors were always open to you... However, he did speak of a new strange friend he met, around the same time he met you, Ohma, he calls him. Ohma Tokita... You had a suspicion that it was the guy from so many nights ago... You were hung up on him, not really knowing why... Perhaps because he was the first human you ever seen with real freedom.
Today was like any other day, you were over at Mr. Yamashita's place, you've been spending more time over at his place recently, and you had your own place, but you've grown used to living with a family... You were begging to think about taking him up on his offer, he did have one more spare bedroom left... But that was a last resort method. You were cleaning the kitchen, wiping down counters, mopping the floor, and washing dishes. It's been pretty quiet, Mr. Yamashita was at work, you had spent the night before, and you decided to clean up some before you headed out for the day.
You looked over at the clock. "4:50 pm... Mr. Yamashita should be home soon... I should stay long enough to say goodbye at least." You spoke aloud to yourself as you stared at the clock for a moment before you walked into the living room. You sighed as you saw three small boxes. One held your clean clothes, one held dirty clothes and one held your hygiene products. They stayed here at Mr. Yamashita's place, just in case you came by unplanned, you already had things for yourself here. You walked over to the couch, and plopped down, giving a tired sigh as you did.
You ran your hands down your face as you groaned loudly. "UGH!!! I HAVE WORK TODAY!!!! NOOOOOOOO!!!" You groaned in despair, you honestly hated your job, but then again most people did. Your arms fell to your sides, landing on the couch with a dull thump, you sat there for a few minutes, deep in thought, when the sound of keys unlocking the door caught your attention. You looked over, and jumped like a dog, excited to see Mr. Yamashita. He walked in, looking down as he shuffled in quietly. He looked up and smiled once he saw you. "Oh, (Y/n)!! I'm happy to see you're still here!! I... actually wanted to speak with you about something." He said, as he closed the door behind him, looking back to lock the door before he looked back at you.
Your happy smile slightly faded, your mind slightly filling with dread. 'Is he ready to cut ties with me?... Did I do something wrong?... Maybe it's his job?... It's probably something good!!.' You thought, trying to keep the negative thoughts out with more logical reasoning. "I'll be leaving for a business trip, I'll be gone for a few weeks, but I'll be back soon. The door is always open to you, you can come by whenever you want, please make yourself at home, while I'm gone." He said. 'He sounds almost, guilty... but why? It was just a business trip.' You thought.
You gave him a smile. "Okay!! I'll be sure to keep the place clean, and I'll keep Kenzou fed too." You said with a playful eye roll. He chuckled at you as he walked in further, placing his briefcase down on the dining table. "I'm sure you will, Kenzou seems to love your cooking... I also left some money, in the top cabinet above the fridge, use it as you see fit." He said, his voice seemingly lowering as he looked down at his shoes. 'There's that guilty tone again...Is he in trouble?... Did he lose his job?... Does it have something to do with Ohma?' You thought, worry clouding your thoughts. Mr. Yamashita was like a father to you, the best father anyone could ever ask for actually. He was kind, understanding, and patient, who could ask for a better father figure? Kenzou was lucky. 'Ungreatful brat.' You thought bitterly.
Pushing that thought aside. "Mr. Yamashita... is this about Ohma?" You asked. His eyes seemed to widen as his mouth dropped. 'Yup... It's about Ohma.' You thought. "I know it's not my business to pry... but if he's... In trouble... I can help... I know some people who got ties." You offered, you didn't like seeing Mr. Yamashita in any kind of stress, and if Ohma was in trouble, you'd help. "Don't hesitate to tell me if something is wrong, I owe you so much, I'd be happy to help in any kind of way." You said, a sweet smile on your face, sealing the deal. He stared at you for a moment, before he sighed, he pulled out a chair from the dining table and he took a seat.
"Sit down, (Y/n)... There's something I have to tell you... and I probably should've told you when it first started." he said. You looked down at him in worry, as you pulled a chair out, sitting down as well...
... It was a lot to process... "Kengan Matches... Companies raging war through peaceful violence... You're a representative and you're in a huge debt... And Ohma is a fighter... The same guy I saw that night..." You said, summarizing everything that he told you... it was quite a lot, but you believed him... After what you went through that night, and seeing all the crazy shit you've seen so far... you'd almost believe anything at this point... Almost anything. "I wanna come." You suddenly said. His eyes widen. "Huh? You want to come?... But... "He trailed off, trying to find an excuse but nothing came up.
You nodded your head. "I want to tag along, I wanna meet Ohma, and I wanna be by your side, maybe having someone else who you know won't make It seem so big... and don't worry about my job, I hate it anyways." You said, answering most of his questions without actually answering his questions. He stared at you, seemingly in a daze, but his shoulders didn't look so heavy anymore, and he didn't look so glum either. You smiled. "I'm going to tag along, whether you want me to or not, besides, watching some fights sounds pretty exciting." You said.
He slowly smiled. "That's not a bad idea actually!! In fact, this is perfect!! You'll get to meet Ohma, I won't have to really go alone, and we'll get to watch some exciting matches!! OH YEAH!!" He said, getting more excited as he thought about it. You smiled at him, happy to see him back to his usual self, and also slightly excited about the whole ordeal, but you were really looking forward to meeting Ohma. He was like a form of inspiration, he was the reason as to why you just took a chance and went for it. You stood up from your chair, looking at Mr. Yamashita with excitement. "I'll pack light, and then we can head out whenever you want!! Since I already got some things here, I'll just pack up here." You explained.
Mr. Yamashita nodded his head as he too stood up from his seat. "I'll go let Kenzou know that I'll be leaving for a few weeks and that there's money here for him to use while we're gone... umm, I'll also let him know that you'll be busy for a while so you may not be around much." He said, you nodded in agreement, not really caring about what he told Kenzou. Kenzou was a bit of a dick, he didn't even try to come out of the room to speak to his father, he never said thank you's or anything, yet he wanted to live here rent-free... ugh.
You went over to your boxes while Mr. Yamashita went up the stairs. You crouched down, pulling out clean clothes and hygiene products that you'll be using... "I should probably get a garbage bag and just throw my things in there." You said aloud to yourself. "Nonsense, you can use some of my storage space in my suitcase, I don't carry much." Mr. Yamashita said as he walked down the stairs. You looked back at him, giving him a grateful smile. "Are you sure, I'd hate to be a burden." You said sheepishly. He fanned you off. "Oh hush, you're never a burden, in fact, you've made my life 10x more colorful and vibrant, these past few months have been the best!!" He said, a genuine smile on his face.
You wanted to tear up, but you held them back as you gave him a small smile instead. "Thank you, Mr. Yamashita." You said...
... You and Mr. Yamashita stood out in front of a large abandoned mansion, vines were growing up the walls, filling up the cracks, and the forest had grown around it, swallowing it up, hiding it from the public's eye. You stared on in amazement. "Wow... so Ohma lives here?" You asked. Mr. Yamashita nodded his head. "Yes, I honestly don't like it... I was planning on asking him if he'd want to move in with us... he could sleep on the couch." He said. You stared on before you looked over at Mr. Yamashita. "Why not just give him the other room, it's open." You asked with a shrug. Mr. Yamashita looked over at you.
"Because that's your room, (Y/n)." He said, his eyes shining in a way that left no room for questioning... you stared at him for a moment, before you smiled and you shrugged. "Guess I'll be moving in then." You said. He smiled as he nodded before he walked up to the door and he gave it three hard knocks. "OHMA!!! WE'RE HERE!!" He shouted, causing some birds to fly off in the distance.
You both stood there for a moment before Mr. Yamashita gave a defeated sigh. "Maybe... He's not here?" He said. You were about to suggest something but the door creaked open slowly, revealing a tall man. His hair was slightly wavy and shaggy and it stopped at his shoulders, he was wearing a nice fitted black shirt with a white acid tone, and his pants were fitted too, they looked like tights mixed with track pants, and his shoes were old, white tennies.
'HOLY FUCK!!! DAMN THIS GUY IS SEXY!!! WHY IS IT THAT WHENEVER I DON'T DRESS MY BEST I RUN INTO THE SEXIEST GUYS!? WHAT KIND OF LUCK IS THAT!? AND THAT BODY!!! HE COULD PUT ANY MAN TO SHAME!!!' You thought, your inner fangirl going crazy. You shoved your hands into your pockets, feelings of insecurity leaking in on you. 'I don't have the best experience with guys like this... I never get them, or they bully me... It was never in between.' You thought bitterly, thinking back to your school days.
He stared at you for a moment taking in your appearance. You weren't much, basic hair, baggy sweats, baggy shirt, baggy jacket, basic cheap but durable shoes. You were nothing, just ordinary. He looked back at Mr. Yamashita. "Who's this? Another opponent for me?" He asked. Mr. Yamashita chuckled nervously while you gawked at him. "No Ohma... This is (Y/n)... She'll be tagging along with us." He explained. You nodded your head. 'HOLY SHIT, EVEN HIS VOICE IS SEXY!!! IT'S LIKE THOSE GUYS FROM THOSE ANIMES!! A VOICE THAT CAN MAKE YOUR FUCKING OVARIES BUST!!!' You thought, your inner fan girl going crazy again.
He looked at you once more. "A girl?... Guess that explains the size." He said. Your brow twitched but you couldn't really be mad, wearing baggy clothes was to conceal your gender after all. Living in the slums has taught you, that women are immediate prey to men, and you didn't have enough confidence in your safety to dress the way you wanted. "I'm sure you're ready to go now, Ohma?" Mr. Yamashita asked. Ohma nodded. "Yeah, let's do this." He said, a vicious smirk coming over his face as he cracked his knuckles. You stared up at him, before you gave a small smile. 'He's crude, yet he's cool... I'm starting to like this guy for who he is.' You thought.
Mr. Yamashita nodded before he looked over at you, and you nodded in return. "Great, then let's go!! Kengan matches, here we come!!" He cheered as he led both you and Ohma back to the train station.

Mafia!San - 5-4-3-2-1
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pairing: San x Hybrid!Y/N
Words: 940
Hybrid were rare species in this world. Most people believe that they have become extinct, but those people does not know about the Underground, where illegal deals were made, exist.
The most valuable transaction were happening once a year in a basement of a hotel. It was an area where no mafia boss could kill or start a fight, even if they see their's greater enemy.
The second his eyes noticed the black, velvet ears on top of your head, San knew you will be his.
Tumblr media
Back then everyone thought you were a balck cat, bad luck and your prices was awfully low as for a hybrid. San on the other hand noticed your round ears and way too long tail. You're a black panther and San was the only one to noticed it.
He bought you two years ago and took you to his apartment along with the cage you were lock in. He was patient with you, with all the growls and hisses as his IT guys were doing a background check on you. San learned a lot about you and your past.
You wnet through a lot of different training and you're brainwashed couple of times. When San got, you were just a feral hybrid ready to kill him the second he unlocked the cage.
He gradually got you used to his presence. For months you were locked in the same room, San's bedroom, surrounded with his scent and his scent only. One day you one of the maid entered his room to clean it up and change the sheet. Her scent reached you immediately, setting you into a panick attack. Since then nobody is allowed to enter his room.
It's been two years and still, you are the only person who can be in that room besides San. You change the bed sheets, keep his desk organized and also take care of his and your laundry. It was your safe place, his bedroom. No one could get to you, he would protect you from all the cruelty of the world before he let anyone hurt you
He did not plan on falling in love with you. He did not plan of caring for you. You just somehow slipped past the walls San has built around his heart, with those silky-smooth paws and black round ears.
Here you are, on the bedroom floor, trembling. One of his man - a newbie - ran into the room looking for his boos and thus breaking the rule number one of San's house. When the front door slammed loudly, startling you, you knew it was him. He ran up the stairs, taking two step at once.
"Babe?" San called for you, before he managed to open the bedroom door. He fell on his knees before you, taking your hands in his. "Hey, kitten. I am here." He said quickly, his heart hammering against his chest. The second he saw you tried to speak he shushed you, pulling you closer.
"I know everything. I will deal with the dumbass later. Now please focus on my voice, okay? Deep breaths, kitty." His hand was moving up and down your back as he kept your ear pressed against his chest. San gives you few more minutes but the anxiety does not seem to subsidie, he decides to try something different.
"Come on, baby. Tell me five things that you can see right now." He whispers in your ear.
"Y-your legs, floor, bed..." You stopped for a second to breathe. The tip of your tail came back to live when you tried to name two more things but your mind could not choose which one.
"Two more, kitty. Don't overthink it." San encouraged you.
"Carpet and a gun." You said suddenly, surprising him as you pressed your moisty nose against his bare arm.
Gun? What gun... Oh..
He gasped looking to the side, where he left it. The second he answered his phone and heard the you are going through a horribly strong panic attack, San has dropped everything and came. His first thought was to shoot the guy who dared to cross the doorstep of his room.
" Four things that you can touch."
"The soft carpet, hard floor, the bed and you."
"Good girl." San kissed your head, drawing a circle of your back with his palm. He could feel that you are regaining control over your body as you breathe in his scent.
"Give me three things that you can hear?"
"The rain outside. People talking downstairs, and your heartbeat." With each example, your panther ears twitch, turning in a different direction.
"Two things you can smell." San did not give you the chance to think about any of the things you just said.
"Your scent and... "You hesitate, gripping his tee tighter as you press your nose harder against his bicep. "Him."
"One thing you can feel." He says quickly, grabbing your face gently with his hands to look you in the eyes. Without second thought, you straighten up and kissed him. San leant back, pulling you with him as he kissed you softly.
"Love." You gasped, laying next to him on the floor. "Thank you."
"Don't thank me, kitten. What do you want to do? I have to deal with the moron." He growls, pulling you closer, all of a sudden feeling protective.
Love was not a foreign word in your vocabulary, neither in San's. What you two shared was love, but neither of you said these three words yet, and you were fine with it. You don't need to hear him say it, situation like this speak for themselves.

[Long post!]
...Willow felt like he was going to explode. He had too many thoughts being kept at the back of his head. He needed to go back to the library now. Maybe that boy would be there early? ... He had to. Willow couldn't take it all anymore. He needed a distraction. It would be too much of a hassle to go through the front door. His parents would surely question where he was going, and when he said the library, they would ask why he was suddenly interested in the library so much and not bringing back any books and then he'll have to say that he's seeing the boy and then they'll ask what he's like and then they might think he's bad and then all I'll have are fake friends and- ... Window. Go out the window. They won't notice. He opened the window and climbed out, sprinting towards the library that's about a minute away. He got some stares, but he didn't mind. The thoughts threatened to enter into his headspace, but he managed to keep them locked away, going into the library with a now familiar ring. The worker was still on their phone. ... I guess they always do that. Where's the boy. Willow sees him at the same table he sat at when he first came here, with a Rubik's Cube of some sorts? ... What's "GAN"??? That doesn't matter. He needed interaction. Talk to him. Talk to him talk to him TALK TO HIM- "... Hello." Willow said weirdly. Oh my arc, you fucked it up from the first word. Nice going, dumbass. "Hi. You're early." The boy said, not caring that much. "Oh. Yeah. I just... Was too excited." Willow says in reply, his distress slowly leaking through. He decides to sit next to him. "... Can you solve that...?" "Yeah. My PB is 18 seconds. Not that fast." he says casually. "I could do lots of things better. F2L Isn't that good, and I'm not very efficient on some PLL cases..." He pauses. "... You don't know that stuff. Sorry." "It's fine, It's fine, don't worry. Please. Please don't." Willow said, with more distress. "What happened?" The boy asked Willow. "W-What do you mean??" Willow says, surprised. "Your voice is lower than last time. You're more antsy. More paranoid. You can talk to me. I'm a good listener." The boy expected Willow to spill all of his problems out of his mouth, but... He ended up breaking down and bursting into tears instead. Oh no. What does he do. He hasn't encountered anything like this. Fuck. "M-My life is a f-fucking mess.... I-I don't k-know what to do a-anymore... F-Fuck, I... I-I just..." Willow shakily let out, instinctually holding on to the strange boy. His smooth skin feels... Nice... "Nothing you can't fix. Just... Do what makes you happy. Unless it's illegal. Then don't do it. You'll get arrested." The boy says, being oddly defensive of his chest... "I-I know... I k-know... It's just I-I'm not a-allowed to be even a bit f-feminine anymore and i-it it felt like I-I was taking a step i-in the right direction but n-now I-I'm back to being a-a stupid regular b-boy with a deep v-voice and hairy legs and a-arms and a-a-and..." Willow stops, trying to breathe for a second. "... Do you want to watch me do solves? Better than worrying about things. Easier too." The boy proposes. Willow thinks, still holding on to him with tears in his eyes. "Y-yeah... Yeah, y-yeah, that's, t-that sounds good..." "Alright." He says, pulling his laptop out of his backpack. He opens it and pulls up 'cstimer.net' in his browser. "... My name is Leo by the way. I forgot to tell you that." "I f-forgot to ask..." Willow says. "People forget lots of things. It's fine." Leo assures. Willow didn't like admitting to himself his life isn't good. He wanted to just forget everything and think things were ok. But they weren't, and he found that hard to swallow... But... Maybe with Leo, her life would be ok. Leo starts to scramble.

here’s max dealing with one of my sam vices. it’s lust time baby. there’s like vague mentions to sex in this so watch out.
“Sam? You in here?”
The next vice had brought him to their apartment. Thankfully the asshole Sam who was currently occupying their office was out for a minute, so Max and Sam could slip by unnoticed. Their apartment didn’t look ransacked by the violent vice so at least that was a good thing. Max was a little upset however. A sick action fight would’ve been the best thing to take his mind off of this very stressful case where he was forced to actually think for once in his life.
Hm. Actually their apartment looks…cleaner than usual. Max knows neither of them clean so this had to be the work of one of those vices. The floor was swept clean of any debris and dust (they owned a broom?), the counters were clear of clutter, the dishes in the sink were gone, their TV was finally off the floor, and the everything that was on their tables were neatly organized in piles. The light were also dimmed and it smelled really nice. Which vice would want to clean their apartment? As Max tries to think, he doesn’t hear the sound of their bedroom door opening. It isn’t until he’s lifted off the floor by something, that he notices there’s someone new in the room.
“Max!”
He feels someone-one of the vices-press their nose against Max’s shoulder. Max tenses up. Oh god he’s gonna get eaten again, or have his throat ripped out, or-
“Oh I’m so glad you’re home sweetheart! I missed you terribly.”
Sweetheart? That’s not what he expected. Where’s all the ripping and tearing?
“Uh.”
“Come on. Let’s go somewhere a little more private.”
Suddenly, Max is being taken to their bedroom. He can’t see the vice directly due to the way he’s being carried but he can see that his arms are purple.  As the vice enters the bedroom he closes and locks the door behind him, leaving the two alone. As the vice sits down on the bed, he shifts Max around in his arms so Max can get a better look at-
Oh.
This Sam was…something. His shirt was unbuttoned at the top to reveal some of his chest, which had ruffled up fur. His sleeves were rolled up to reveal those well toned arms Max always liked to see. He was also wearing those heart glasses Max vaguely remembers wearing in junior high. The sight was uh…very nice to look at. Especially that chest hair that Max couldn’t stop staring at. He could hear the vice laugh above him. Oh god, he shouldn’t be allowed to sound that nice. That should be illegal. Max feels a hand on his chin, with his thumb on Max’s lower lip. As Max’s head is lifted up to lock eyes with the vice, he can feel himself get warmer.
“Like what you see?”
Shit. Was he staring? He didn’t mean-no, he definitely meant to stare. Maybe it’s some weird vice magic, but this Sam is really hot. I mean, all Sams were hot to Max (even the asshole in their office was pretty sexy), but this one was doing things to him.
“Uh, well, uh-”
“It’s alright Max. I like it. I like the attention from you. Makes me feel special.”
The vice leans down and kisses him on the forehead. He then smiles against his forehead and whispers:
“Is there anything you want to do with me?”
Oh this was not good. This was not good at ALL. He is supposed be responsible and help get these vices back, not fall to their charms like some flimsy dame. To be fair, Sam always knew how to get under his fur like this. While not an out right flirt or tease like Max was, Sam was really good at knowing how to get Max all flustered. And oh boy, was Max flustered to hell and back right now.
He had to focus. For Sam. Max takes a deep breath in and lets it out to steady his voice in order to speak clearly:
“I have to get you back to, uh, the other Sam.”
The vice, who Max has decided is probably Lust, frowns against Max’s forehead. He then leans back up and Max gets upset at the lack of touch.
“I really don’t want to go back to him hun. He’s not really the best fit for someone like you. He’s not as handsome as yours truly.”
“You’re the same person?”
Lust ignores him and continues, “And besides, you should stay here with me sweetie. All those other mean vices are just going to hurt you.”
“You know I can handle myself Sam.”
“Hm. Yeah, my big fearsome beast.”
Lust kisses his forehead again and pets a spot between his ears. Damn, if Max didn’t promise Sam that he would get all his vices back he’d stay here with this one forever. Focus.
“Stop trying to distract me. I’m acting responsible for once.”
“Hmm. You are, aren’t you? You really deserve a reward don’t you sweetheart?”
Lust gently maneuvers Max to lay on the bed. He then leans over Max, effectively pinning him down to the bed. His hands rest on both sides of Max’s head. He leans in to whisper in Max’s ear.
“I could eat you up right now. You’re so beautiful.”
Okay it’s getting really hard to focus. Like really hard to focus. That voice is making him all weak in the knees. He needs to think before he actually gets eaten up by Sam.
Think, how would Sam handle this? Sam would stay focused. If Max was some weird vice that was like a manifestation of sexual and romantic desire he would find a way to confront it. So far, Max has been dealing with the vices with violence. And while that worked for most of them, he’s not so sure this vice would go away if he bit him. That might just accelerate whatever Lust is trying to get him to do, which if Max wasn’t occupied with this case right now he’d be totally down to clown.
So he’s gonna be like Sam. He’s gonna talk.
“Sam.”
“Yes darling?”
“I…I know what you’re trying to do.”
Lust doesn’t say anything. It allows Max to speak without his mind wandering for once.
“Look I love you a lot. I do. And I know I’m annoying sometimes but I really care about you. This whole case I’ve been thinking and it’s really hard but I want to do it for you.”
He isn’t really sure why all the vices have been so difficult. He would understand if they were his own but Sam?Sam isn’t the type to hide something, but if his vices are all acting this way, there’s something going on. He isn’t going to push it, not yet.
“You don’t have to tell me why. Just, let me help you.”
Lust tenses above him. Max takes the opportunity to lean up from his place on the bed and wraps his arms around his neck. There’s a beat of silence before Lust speaks again.
“Oh Max.”
Max feels Lust push off the bed and take Max into his lap. He then feels Lust’s arms wrap around him and his face is shoved into Lust’s chest.
“I…you’re just a sweetheart you know that?”
Max pulls back reluctantly from Lust and rolls his eyes, “Alright.
“I’m serious little buddy. You would really do anything for me?”
“Hey, you owe me. Or uh, the you outside owes me some sweet lovin’.”
“You promise?”
Max kisses Lust on the underside of his chin. Lust smiles and hugs him again, having Max collide with his chest once again. Max sighs.
“When you go back to Sam please tell him to keep his shirt open please.”
Lust laughs, “I promise little buddy.”
Then, Lust disappears in a poof of smoke. Max falls over due to the lack of support keeping him upright. After reorienting himself on the bed, Max looks over what was left behind.
First was his glasses. He pockets those for later. What? Sue him, he likes to look cute. Next, was a file that Max is pretty sure is related to what Pride is trying to solve. He’ll look at it later. Finally, was the body part Lust left behind. It was Sam’s heart. Max assumed it would be his dick or something funny like that, but unfortunately the writers of his universe had a weird sense of humor.
Still. It’s nice to know that there’s a part of Sam that loves him so much in manifested as a vice. It’s going to keep Max going when he tackles the rest of these vices.
Max pockets the heart and hops off the bed. Four down. Three to go.

Captive Heart- Silvio Ricci x f!Reader
Tumblr media
Finally decided to jump into content creation and this contest inspired me to do so... thank you @xxsycamore and @queengiuliettafirstlady. This ended up being much longer than I had intended and I had even more ideas, so let me know if you're interested in reading what happens after the end--
Day 1 ~ Mafia AU Pairing: Ikemen Prince: Silvio x f!Reader Overview: Held captive by the mafia, there's no reason you should be feeling this way. In fact, you should hate him, but something about him makes your heart race. Type: Fluffy Angst? Some spice at the end Length: almost 4k
*****************************************************************
I jolted awake, feeling a tight grip on my wrists.
The room was dark, only a small sliver of light snuck in under the door. I was just barely able to make out that I was in some sort of small bedroom. My arms were shackled to the chair that I found myself in, and I could feel my panic starting to escalate.
What the hell? Where am I?
The last thing I remembered was walking home from work, and then out of nowhere I felt a sharp pain in my thigh, my head began to spin and I dropped to the ground.
“Hello!” I shouted. “Anyone want to fill me in on what’s going on here?!” My panic was turning into anger as I realized this likely had to do with my father’s debts.
He had recently started reaching out more and more frequently, asking for money again. I knew he had to be in trouble because he had been calling me from several different numbers, and never spoke for very long.
Now the only question was who did he owe?
I’m completely screwed aren’t I?
Suddenly I heard loud footsteps approaching the door. I could hear the sound of keys jingling as the locks were released one by one.
The door flew open and a light switch was flicked on, temporarily blinding me.
“Welcome to the land of the living, Sleeping Beauty.”
A tall man with pale silvery hair entered the room, closing the door behind him. His bright cerulean eyes sparkled with amusement at his own quip as to stared down at me.
“Can you please just tell me what’s going on here?” I asked, suddenly feeling very vulnerable.
“You sure are demanding for a captive.” The man scoffed, tilting his head to the side, revealing a streak of dark hair amongst the silver strands.
Oh, no. Please don’t tell me you’re who I think you are…
The haughty look on his face and the bright golden ring glittering on his finger. There’s no mistaking it…  He’s definitely Silvio Ricci. The Ricci’s are known for being one of the most powerful families in the city. Their wealth allowed them to have their hands in most of the businesses that were running anywhere near here, legal, and illegal. From what I had heard, Silvio was a clever, conniving, and shrewd negotiator, not to mention incredibly handsome. There was no way I would be talking my way out of this.
How much did my father owe them?! There’s no way he’s going to have enough money to pay for my release!
“You’ve got daddy to thank for this situation, princess.”
“I gathered that much. There’s no other reason for me to be locked up in a tiny room…” I spat.
Silvio shook his head and continued, crossing his arms. “I guess it must be easier to trade in your daughter than to come up with the money you owe.”
Wait, what… Trade in?!
“You mean I’m not just being used as a hostage for ransom?” I squeaked, my mind reeling from the severity of the situation.
“Apparently, someone thought it was a fair trade. I don’t see how you could possibly be worth the four million your father owes, but now I’m apparently stuck dealing with you so you had better be worth my time.”
I watched as a dark scowl appeared on his face, his intimidating aura becoming suffocating.
“W-what exactly do you mean ‘stuck dealing with me’?” I choked, cursing myself for how weak I sounded.
“I mean that you’re my problem now and I intend to make sure that you’re worth the money we lost.”
My head was spinning as my gaze dropped to the floor. I couldn’t seem to make complete sense of the situation. Had my father seriously told them to take me as repayment for his debt? I didn’t think the mafia accepted people as payment.
I felt my face grow hot as my lips twisted into a pained grimace.
“Listen, princess, I don’t like this any more than you do.” He sighed, uncrossing his arms, and pushing off from where he was leaned against the wall.
His long legs quickly closed the distance between us, his fingers tilting my face up to look him in the eye.
“But, it is what it is, so, looks like you’re my property now.”
I narrowed my eyes and pursed my lips, my eyebrows knitted together in anger. I opened my mouth to retort, but the fingers on my chin snapped my mouth closed again.
He grinned, clearly the statement had been meant to get a reaction out of me.
Suddenly I felt his hands drop to my arm. My body instinctively moved to jerk away, but the restraints on my wrists kept me in place.
He slid his fingers down along my skin, causing goosebumps to rise in response.
I felt my heartrate pick up…
…Please don’t tell me he thinks I’ll prove I’m ‘worth the money’ by taking advantage of me…
I closed my eyes, steeling myself to attack if I needed to.
He’s close enough that if I jerk forward a bit, I should be able to smack his head with mine… And my legs are free, so I can always use that…
While I was thinking, his fingertips brushed against my wrist and I heard the telltale jingling of keys.
“You’re not gonna try anything, right princess?” The soft whisper brushed past my ear, startling me into opening my eyes.
Silvio’s face was much closer, and I felt humiliated as a gasp escaped my mouth. My face felt hot as he looked me directly in the eye. My heart was racing and I tried desperately to ignore the heat that was pooling in my belly.
I am NOT attracted to this man.
“It wouldn’t do me much good, now would it?” I replied, managing to keep my voice steady and dropping my gaze to where his hand rested against my wrist.
“Heh, smart girl.”
I held my breath as I felt the restraint drop from one hand and then the other, finally letting it out as Silvio took a step back, rising back to his full height.
“You get to stay in this lovely room for now, so go ahead and make yourself comfortable. There’re clean clothes in the armoire.” He explained as he headed out the door.
“Oh, and get some rest, you got a busy day tomorrow.” He added, flashing a smug grin before closing the door behind him.
I sank back into the chair, rubbing my wrists. My heart finally started to calm down, allowing me to fully grasp the situation.
How the hell can I get out of this? And why did he have to be so damn attractive?
*****************************************************************
I woke with a start at a loud series of knocks.
“Miss, I am going to open the door, please make sure you’re decent.”
I heard the soft voice calling through the door and quickly sat up in the bed. I had fallen asleep almost immediately last night that I hadn’t even taken the time to get changed out of my clothes.
“Oh, um… come in?” I muttered, getting to my feet as the person behind the door pulled it open.
“Hello miss, my name is Carlo, I work as Mr. Silvio Ricci’s direct assistant. He has requested you to join him for breakfast.”
A young man with short, curly black hair peeked into the doorway, giving a small nod of greeting.
“Hello Carlo… would I have a chance to get cleaned up and changed before having to deal with him?” I muttered, my irritation from the previous night creeping back into my mind.
“I can allow you a few minutes to get changed, but Mr. Ricci isn’t exactly a patient man…”
Letting out an exasperated sigh, I nodded and waited for the sound of the door latching before darting over to the armoire and pulling open the first drawer.
My face heated as I saw the assortment of revealing lacy undergarments that filled the space.
Did he not bother providing normal clothing?
I quickly pulled open the other drawers and found an assortment of skirts in one, and an array of nightgowns and lingerie in another.
Why would he think I’d wear any of this?
Behind the door of the wardrobe, I found several luxurious dresses and blouses.
All of the clothing was far more extravagant than I had ever worn, and I was having a hard time trying to decide what would be casual enough for me to feel at least semi-comfortable in.
“Miss, we really should get going.” Carlo’s muffled voice shouted through the door.
“One more minute…” I replied, grabbing one of the blouses and a skirt, throwing them on haphazardly.
I noticed a small mirror on the wall beside the armoire and fixed my hair the best I could without any brush or styling equipment.
“Okay, I’m ready.” I called out, moving to make my way toward the door.
Moments later, I was seated in a grand dining room, a small plate of fruit and a muffin sat in front of me.
I realized how hungry I was and quickly devoured the muffin before starting in on the fruit.
I picked up a strawberry and popped in in my mouth before noticing Silvio’s gaze, his blue eyes trained on my mouth.
“Can I help you, Mr. Ricci?” I asked, swallowing the fruit, and returning his intense stare.
His eyes shot up to meet mine and I felt like I could see a faint pink hue rise on his cheeks before he scoffed and got up from his chair.
“I just wanted to let you know that you’re going to be accompanying me to a party tonight. I need a good distraction while I gather intel on a few of the people that’ll be there.” Silvio quickly began speaking, pacing around the room, and conveniently keeping his face turned away from me.
“You’ll need to wear something that’ll help keep their attention on you, so obviously I’m gonna have to help you with that…” He added, gesturing his hand at my body.
“What’s wrong with my outfit?”
He snorted, “It looks like you got dressed in the dark.”
I felt my face heat, crossing my arms indignantly over my chest.
“I didn’t exactly have very much time to get ready…” I hissed under my breath.
Once again, Silvio reached out and lifted my chin to force me to face him.
“If you’ve got something to say, princess, make sure I can hear it. I don’t like underhanded comments.” He whispered, his warm breath ghosting over my ear, sending shivers down my spine.
I quickly uncrossed my arms and shoved him away from me, jumping up from my chair and putting some distance between us.
A slow grin spread on Silvio’s face, his eyes flashing with amusement at my glare.
“I’ll have an outfit sent to your room later. Carlo, take her to get washed up and then make sure to take care of her hair and makeup for tonight.”
*****************************************************************
I stared down at the elaborate dress that was laying on my bed.
The silken gown shimmered with a silvery-blue hue, and elegant jewels tastefully decorated the bodice. The skirt was composed of several layers of a shear gauzy fabric with interwoven glitter. A gorgeous silver necklace and earrings, inlaid with deep blue jewels accompanied the dress, along with some beautiful silver heels.
This whole outfit probably costs more than I would make in a year…
I stood in the middle of my room, hesitant to start getting dressed since that meant actually touching the dress.
“You about ready?”
I heard a voice shout through the door, spurring me to quickly leap toward my bed and grab the dress.
“J-just about! I’ll let you know when I’m finished.” I shouted, pulling the dress up quickly to ensure that at least my body was covered.
I managed to slip into the shoes and put the earrings on before the door burst open.
“I had the outfit sent up an hour ago, there’s no way you shouldn’t have been ready to go…” Silvio started, barreling into the room.
Looking down at my body, he abruptly cut himself off, his eyes widening.
I suddenly felt very self-conscious, and started fiddling with the cloth of my skirts. He made his way over to me, his gaze never once leaving my body.
I could feel my heartrate speed up as he approached. Something about his eyes seemed to betray a primal hunger.
Why am I enjoying this? Sure, he’s attractive, but he is probably the last person I want to make me feel like this.
I stubbornly resisted the urge to back away as he drew up close to me, close enough that I was able to smell the sharp, exotic scent of his cologne.
Dammit, why does he have to smell good too?
I mentally scolded myself when my breath hitched as his eyes finally met mine.
Silvio let out an irritated sigh.
“Where’s the necklace?”
I blinked in surprise.
“The what?”
“The necklace, you know the $40,000 necklace I sent up for you to wear? You’re not trying to pull some stupid con, are you? Thinking that when you’re through here you can pawn it off or something?”
“Of course not, I’m not that dumb. Why would I do anything to make my situation any worse than it already is?” I spat. I felt the tension in my body change from attraction to anger. “The necklace is on the bed.”
“Why isn’t it on your neck? Y’know…where it’s supposed to be?”
I want to slap you so hard…
My anger built and I somehow managed to keep it in check long enough to lie, hopefully convincingly.
“I couldn’t seem to get the clasp to connect.”
Silvio clicked his tongue in annoyance, leaning to grab the necklace before deftly sliding it around my neck and clasping it.
“Let’s go.” He growled, grabbing onto my hand, pulling me out into the hallway with him.
As we made our way down to the party, I couldn’t help but think of how my skin had heated as his fingers brushed across the thin skin of my neck.
*****************************************************************
The night went nothing like how I thought it would.
Silvio kept me by his side the entire night, seemingly encouraging his fellow ‘businessmen’ to gawk and comment on my appearance, or at least he did nothing to stop them. I knew my face was painted red the entire evening, each lewd comment causing me to blush even harder.
I don’t even know when or how Silvio managed to get the intel he was looking for during the party, he never seemed to do anything to direct the conversation, and nothing I heard seemed to be of any value.
Oddly enough, as the night progressed, Silvio seemed to grow more possessive of me.  By midnight, he had started keeping his arm around my waist, and I would be lying if I said I wasn’t enjoying the contact.
I swear I’m supposed to hate you… You’re keeping me locked up after all.
I kept telling myself all of the reasons why I couldn’t stand Silvio, but I still couldn’t stop the butterflies in my stomach from fluttering every time he flashed his bright smile or let out a laugh.
I felt his fingers slide down to my hip and dig softly into the flesh there, causing me to sharply inhale.
I need to calm down… I need to get away from you… you and your stupid, gorgeous face.
“Mr. Ricci, would I be able to go out to the balcony? It’s getting a bit warm in here under the lights…”
I tried to sound sweet and submissive, hoping that playing at being demure would get him to acknowledge my request.
Silvio gave me a quick glance. Noticing how red my face was, he let out a bark of laughter.
“Yeah, yeah, we can go outside for a second. Excuse us, please, gentlemen.”
He reached down and grabbed my hand, leading me through the crowd of people out onto a covered balcony.
The cool night air felt like heaven on my skin, my tension and embarrassment quickly fading as the calm darkness surrounded me.
I tried to pull my hand away and keep walking, but Silvio’s grip only tightened.
“You can let go now.”
“I know.”
I turned to him in shock as he began to pull me over to the far side of the space.
“What exactly are you doing?” I breathed as he backed behind a decorative pillar. I brought my free hand up to his chest, ready to push him away if he got too close.
I could feel the toned muscles underneath the white button up, and beyond that, I could feel his heart racing.
“I can’t stand you; you know that?” He whispered, dropping his gaze to my lips.
My face heated anew as his face grew closer to mine.
“M…Mr. Ricci?” I muttered, putting some force behind my palm resting on his chest.
“God, quit calling me that…” He groaned, closing his eyes. I swore I could see his face flushing too. “Say my name…please…”
I almost missed the soft request as it fell from his lips, but his words still managed to catch my breath.
“Um… okay… Silvio” I murmured hesitantly. I felt his grip on my hand tighten in response.
My head began to grow fuzzy as his scent enveloped me and his body came impossibly close to mine. I couldn’t help but let out a shaky breath, which in turn caused Silvio to inhale sharply.
“Are you enjoying this…?” He asked, bringing his other hand up to clasp the hand resting on his chest. His face drew even closer to mine and I quickly shut my eyes to attempt to calm my fluttering heart
Yes!
“Of course, not…” I lied, turning my head so that the warmth of his breath would stop ghosting over my lips.
“Are you sure?” He asked, releasing one of my hands to once again tilt my chin to face him.
The amusement in his eyes at my denial was nearly clouded over with a look of dark desire.
“I-I’m sure…” I murmured.
Dammit, why can’t I bring myself to get away from him? I know there’s no reason for me to feel anything for this man, but I can’t seem to stop my body from responding to him.
“You’re lying.”
Suddenly I felt his lips crash against mine, urgently kneading against the soft flesh. I felt all sense of reason leave my body as I melted into his kiss. I couldn’t help myself as my own lips became more demanding, my tongue darting out to brush against his lower lip.
I heard a soft groan as his own tongue plunged into my mouth, exploring every inch of it.
I felt the rest of his body press me against the wall gently, sending jolts of pleasure through me.
“Why do you have to taste so sweet…” Silvio muttered against my lips, his other hand releasing mine as he twined his fingers in my hair. I was unable to stifle a soft whimper as his grip tightened, causing a delicious pain in my scalp.
He shifted his position, tilting me slightly and causing me to reflexively grab onto his arms to steady myself.
Why is he doing this? Why don’t I want him to stop?
The wet sounds of our mouths seemed to echo off of the stone walls around us, causing me to grow even more hot.
“Silvio…” I whispered between kisses, trying desperately to swim back to the surface from the depths of desire I was drowning in.
He stilled at the sound of his name, pulling his head back to look at my eyes.
The intensity of his cerulean eyes sent a shudder through me. Our ragged breathing filled the air, neither of us daring to move. Time passed slowly and eventually we were able to calm ourselves enough to talk.
“What do you want from me?” I asked softly. I tried to force my voice to hold more intention as I added, “I thought I was nothing more than property to you…”
“Damn you and your smart mouth.” He growled, pressing a chaste kiss against my mouth to cut me off.
“You mess with my head… so bad… I’ve wanted to kiss you since I laid eyes on you…” He admitted, leaning his forehead against mine.
Wait…what?
Silvio’s hands dropped from my hair and he slowly backed away.
“I…. I don’t know why… I can’t seem to get you out of my mind.” He muttered, his face twisting in confusion.
“There’s no way that’s true…” I finally breathed. “You’re keeping me locked up here after all…”
“I never locked the door.”
“What?”
“Last night, when I left your room, I never locked the door. Hell, I never authorized them to lock you up in the first place, that was my brother’s idea. He was the one who accepted you in place of your father’s debt and decided it would be funny to ‘surprise’ me with you.” He finally explained.
“Once I saw you and you opened your damn mouth, I decided to play along with the captive thing… and then the way you responded to my touch…”
Silvio turned away, resting his hands along the railing of the balcony, dropping his head. “You coulda left whenever you wanted to… you’re free to go now, no one’s gonna stop you.”
I was shocked, the man standing before me was nothing like the Silvio I had experienced before. The haughty, aloof persona that he had been showing me all day had vanished and instead I was seeing someone completely different.
“You’re really serious… aren’t you?” I started.
“Yeah, I am. So go ahead and go.” He retorted, not bothering to turn as he waved his hand in the direction of the door.
“But what about my father’s debt…”
“Lady, are you stupid? Are you trying to talk me out of letting you go?” He snapped, spinning to face me. “If you want to leave, leave now… otherwise I’m not going to hold back from touching you more.” I thought I caught a trace of pain cross his face before being replaced with an angry looking scowl.
I walked forward, coming to a stop just short of Silvio’s figure.
“Do you want me to leave?”
Silvio let out an exasperated sigh.
“Obviously I don’t… but I’m not gonna force you to stay.” He retorted.
My heart began to beat faster. I felt my body beginning to grow warm again as I closed the distance between us and brought my face close to his.
I might regret this, but I really don’t want to fight my attraction anymore…
“Maybe I don’t really want to leave either… There’s something about you that makes me crazy too, and honestly I want to see where this will go…” I whispered, keeping my eyes trained on his.
A deep growl preceded the feeling of his lips colliding with mine. He aggressively thrust his tongue into my mouth, drawing a soft moan from the back of my throat. Silvio jerked back and shook his head. His eyes were blazing with desire.
“You gotta learn to keep that pretty mouth of yours shut… you’re giving me ideas and I’m barely hanging on to my sanity right now.” Silvio’s strained voice seemed to be deeper and lustier than before.
“What sort of ideas?”
I could sense that question caused the last thread to snap and Silvio pulled me into his arms, lifting me into a princess carry and bringing me inside the building.
I couldn’t help but grin at the thought of what was going through his mind.
Tonight is going to be fun…

Riley jumped as the door slammed behind Liam. She turned back to Drake, “What do you mean I have no idea what I’ve just done?”
“I mean…you’ve only known the charming and polite Liam, the person he is when he’s getting his way.”
“What are you saying?”
“I’m saying that you don’t know what he’s capable of! Liam handles things…differently.”
“Differently how?”
“Okay, so take me for example. I’m a simple man, Riley. Straightforward. Nick pissed me off, I punched him. Tariq threatened you, I punched him. Simple. Out in the open. Resolved and moved on from. But Liam? He can destroy a person’s life from the ground up and they never see him coming until it’s too late.”
“Liam wouldn’t-
“Oh, he would, he can, and he has! I’m telling you…you don’t know him like I do! If I haven’t been fired, had my clearance revoked, and been shut out of all our systems by the time he makes it back to the office, I’ll eat my shoes.”
“But…you’re his best friend!”
“Who just betrayed him.”
“You didn’t-“
“As far as he’s concerned, I did and that’s all that matters. I told you, absolute monarchy.”
“What will you do if he fires you?”
“The job is the least of my concerns, Riley. I told you; I have money. I can get by without an income for a while. I can get another job, somewhere else, but…”
“But?”
“But I can almost guarantee he’ll have all my domestic assets frozen by nightfall. He can make it impossible for me to find another job, he can seize this property if he wants to and frankly if he decides to arrest me, I could spend the rest of my life in a prison cell.”
“But you’ve done nothing wrong or illegal!” She protested, “Surely a jury-“
“Doesn’t matter. There won’t be a trail. This isn’t America.”
“Why would he do any of that?”
“Because in his mind, I just took something that belonged to him. Liam Rys doesn’t do tit-for-tat. He goes for shock and awe. Slight him, he will raze your life to the ground.”
“I…I don’t believe you! He’s just hurt right now, he’ll calm down, you’ll see.”
Drake plucked his phone up from the coffee table where she had placed it and dialed. Putting it on speaker phone while it rang, he held it toward her so she could hear the conversation.
“Who are you calling?”
“Jason Toussaint, the Lieutenant in charge of cyber operations,” he answered.
The call connected, “Drake? What the hell is going on? I just got orders to lock you out of all systems.”
“Hey, Jason,” Drake spoke into the phone, “Has my employment been terminated?”
“Yes, and all security clearances revoked,” Jason answered, “What the hell is going on, cap?”
Drake gave Riley an I told you so look before answering, “Has the order been given to freeze my assets?”
“Yes, but I haven’t done it yet.”
“The assets don’t matter,” Drake answered, “but do that last.”
“All right. I’ll buy you as much time as I can, but be advised that your passport has been revoked.”
“Noted. Thanks, Jason.”
Drake hung up the phone and started pacing.
Riley watched him, anxiety spinning her mind in a million different directions. “What are we going to do?”
Drake stopped pacing and turned to face her, “We need to go, now!”
“Where?”
“Anywhere that isn’t Cordonia or a country that has an extradition treaty with Cordonia. His reach ends at the border.”
“Okay, but how do we do that if you don’t have a passport?”
“We get creative!” He smiled reassuringly at her, “Don’t worry, I have a plan! Go pack your stuff!”
It didn’t take her long because she had barely unpacked. When she came back down the stairs, Drake was just hanging up the phone, “Who was that? Is everything okay?”
“I just found out from my contact in MiSHI that the person Tariq was working with is Bastien.” He said grimly, “And there’s only one person he takes orders from.”
“Who’s that?”
“Constantine.”
Riley’s heart dropped, “Liam’s father?”
“Yes, the fucking bastard! This makes it even more imperative that we get out of the country as soon as possible. If Constantine has determined that you’re not suitable marriage material for his son, he will go to any lengths to ensure he stays away from you.”
“Okay,” she took a deep breath as she nodded, “I’m packed, we can go!”
“Me too,” He pointed to a duffle bag laying by the door, “I’ll go grab your bags, you go grab some snacks from the kitchen so we don’t have to stop any more than necessary.”
“On it!”
“There’s a cooler under the cabinet closest to the fridge!” He called over his shoulder as he bounded up the stairs.
Fifteen minutes later their stuff was loaded into the back of a nondescript range rover.
Confusion pulled through her, “Where did that come from and where’s your car?”
“My car is stashed in the garage around back where this was parked. It won’t be easily seen unless someone is looking for it. And they won’t be. They’ll be looking for it out on the road, but they won’t find it because we’ll be in this!” He grinned at her as he dangled the keys, “It was my sister’s. They won’t think to look for her car. I doubt Liam even remembers she had a car before she left!”
“Savannah, right?” she asked as she slid into the passenger seat, “You told me about her. You never told me why she left.”
“Because some fucking duke used her and threw her away like she was garbage!” he climbed into the driver’s seat and put the car in gear as he spoke, “Made a big deal about how she was good enough to fuck but not good enough to marry. Then she found out she was pregnant and was afraid the guy would take her to court and get custody of the kid. And he would have won because he had all the money and all the power. So I helped her move away before anyone here even knew she was pregnant.”
“Jesus…that…that sucks, I’m so sorry!”
“It’s okay,” he shrugged, “Fuck that guy. She dodged a bullet if you ask me.”
He navigated the vehicle down the rutted-out path and eventually onto a better, but still rough dirt road. It took twenty minutes before they hit pavement.
“So…an officer in the Royal Guard, huh?”
“Yes, the youngest Captain in the history of the guard!” he told her proudly.
“I’m sorry you’re giving that up.”
“What?” he pulled his eyes from the road briefly to look at her, “It’s fine. I did what had to be done. I have no regrets.”
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
“Because, if titles and money were what you cared about, mine weren’t going to impress you. I’m a captain in the Cordonian Royal Guard, not a crown prince or even a duke. I make good money and I have a small inheritance from my grandmother, but I can’t compete with billionaires.”
“I don’t care about your money, Drake.” She sighed, “I literally chose you over a crown prince, remember?”
That got a smile out of him, “You did, didn’t you?”
She smiled back, “I did.”
“I still can’t believe you did that!” his voice held a note of awe as his hand reached for hers.
She squeezed his back and smiled, “So where are we going?”
“To Hadley Airfield.”
“What is that and why are we going there?”
“It’s an old government-owned airstrip that’s still staffed by the guard, but used primarily for non-military purposes. Crop dusting, running supplies for research missions, shit like that. It’s a low priority for upgrades so it’s still pretty low-tech. I won’t need to swipe a key card to get in, just punch in a code that I’d bet money no one has thought to change, and even if they did, they’d have to physically send someone there to do it.”
“So…what? We’re going to steal a plane?”
He gave her a mischievous grin, “Yep.”
“Wait…seriously?”
“Seriously. An old one that can’t be controlled remotely. Then we’re going to fly right over the border into Auvernall. No extradition treaty and they have an international airport there.”
They would ditch the stolen plane and melt into the masses of people in Auvernall before hopping a flight to anywhere in the world and disappearing off Liam’s radar forever.
“And just who the hell is going to fly this plane?”
“I am!”
“You’re a pilot?”
His grin widened, it was downright cocksure as he answered, “Before I joined the guard, my prior service was in the Cordonian Royal Air Force, babe. Yes, I can fly a plane.”
Five hours later they pulled up to a rusted metal gate and stopped at an unmanned guard station. Drake rolled the window down and typed a code into the box. The gate made a loud buzzing sound and then slid open.
“Told you!” He gloated as they drove unimpeded into the airport.
“I never doubted you!”
He navigated the Range Rover through the airport to a row of metal aircraft hangers in the back. He pulled up next to a small office building and put the vehicle in park. “I have to go inside and check the logs.”
“Why?”
“I need to know which planes are fueled and ready to go. I need to know the flight schedule. The last thing we want is to take a plane with a mechanical issue, not enough fuel or to take off at the wrong time and crash into another aircraft.”
“Okay,” She nodded, “I’m coming with you!”
“No,” he shook his head, “You should stay in the car.”
“And what if someone comes to ask me what I’m going here?”
He rolled that around in his head for a few seconds before acquiescing, “All right. Let’s go!”
A bell tinkled as they entered the office. An air-conditioned blast hit them, a stark contrast to the heat and humidity outside.
A slender, blonde-haired man with a crew cut looked up from his seat at the desk, “Hey, you can’t be in here-“
Drake flashed his badge at the young corporal, “I need access to the flight schedule and maintenance records.”
“Yes, sir!” The corporal surged to his feet, stumbling over his own feet in his haste to produce the records.
After thrusting the requested documents into Drake’s hands, the young man glanced in Riley’s direction.
“Hey!” Drake snapped his fingers in the kid’s face, “She’s not your concern!”
“R-Right! Sorry!”
Drake flipped quickly through some pages on a clipboard before tossing them onto the desktop. He grabbed Riley’s arm and aimed her toward the door, “Come on, let’s go!”
The bell jingled as the door opened again and a lone figure strode through it, blocking the light so all Riley could make out was a silhouette.
Drake took several steps back, pulling Riley with him, “Bas? What are you doing here? How did you know-“
“You don’t think I remember Leo giving us the slip just like this when you were partnered with me during your training year?”
“Shit! Fuck!” Drake kicked at a pile of boxes, sending them toppling over. He pulled Riley closer and put his mouth to her ear so only she could hear, “When I tell you to go, you get in the car and go. Meet me at hanger forty-seven. Got it? Don’t talk. Just nod if you understand.”
She nodded as he discreetly pressed his keys into the palm of her hand.
“This place is going to be swarming with King’s Guards any minute,” Bastien flashed his badge at the corporal and told him, “Go on kid, get out of here before you end up in the middle of a shootout.”
The kid scrambled out the door without a backward glance.
Why are you doing this, Bas?” Drake asked, “I thought you believed she wasn’t good enough to marry Liam.”
“What I believe doesn’t matter, I have my orders, I can’t let you leave,” Bastien reached for Riley’s arm.
Drake moved quickly, pulling her out of his reach, “God damn it, Bas! I wish you hadn’t done that.”
“I’m trying to help you-“
“Go!” Drake spun Riley toward the door with one arm as the other shot out to clothesline the older man.
Riley hit the door running and didn’t slow down until she skidded into the Range Rover. She yanked the door open, clambered up into the driver’s seat, and threw the car in gear, leaving rubber on the asphalt as she careened out of the parking area.
Her eyes scanned the dingy metal hangers as she drove. They each had a number painted on them in now faded yellow paint. When she found the correct one, she drove straight into it and slammed the brakes on.
Flinging the door open, she rushed back to push the sliding doors of the hangar shut.
Maybe that would slow them down. She ran back to the car and started transferring luggage to the plane.
When she was done, she began pacing back and forth across the hangar. Minutes ticked by as she considered going back.
She started talking to herself, “What if he got hurt? What if he got arrested? Fuck!”
She made up her mind to go back if he didn’t appear within the next two minutes. Out loud she said, “Come on, Drake! Where are you?”
Footsteps sounded near the rear of the hangar, and she whirled toward it, ready to run.
Drake stepped away from a small door she hadn’t noticed before. He grinned at her, “I’m right here, Brooks. Miss me?”
“Oh, thank God!” She rushed into his arms, “What happened?”
“I had to knock Bastien out,” he said grimly as he caught her, “he wasn’t going to let us leave.”
“I’m sorry, I know you were close.”
“Yeah, well, he may have been my godfather and he may have loved my mother,” Drake said as he pulled her close and kissed the top of her head, “but his first loyalty was always to the crown.”
“Well, I’m still sorry you had to hurt him.”
“It’s okay, he’ll recover,” he told her as he released her, “But we have minutes to get out of here before soldiers are everywhere. Let’s go!”
He took her by the hand and headed for the plane. He made it to the steps when she pulled her hand away, “Wait! I forgot-“
“There’s no time!”
“Your phone! It’s in the console!”
Shit! He was going to need that to reach his contact in Auvenall. “I’ll get it, you get on the plane!” He reversed direction and pushed past her.
He scooped the phone out of the center console and didn’t bother closing the door as he hustled back to the plane.
Riley was still standing at the bottom of the steps, waiting for him, instead of on the plane like he’d told her.
“Freeze!” The doors of the hanger banged open as soldiers poured into the room, scattering and taking up tactical positions around the area.
Drake pushed her in front of him, “Get on the plane!”
“But-“ she stumbled as he guided her body forward while her head moved around to see behind them.
“Riley! Drake!” Liam’s voice rang out as he stepped past the guardsmen.
Drake spun around, yanking a nine-millimeter Baretta from the waistband of his pants. He leveled the firearm at Liam while making sure to keep himself situated in front of Riley, blocking her from any potential gunfire.
Every assault rifle in the place was suddenly aimed at them as the king’s life was threatened.
“It’s okay, hold your fire!” Liam yelled at them as he held his arms out to the side to indicate that he himself was unarmed. He couldn’t risk Riley getting shot when they took Drake down. “Are you going to shoot me, Drake? Your best friend? Your brother?”
“Is that what you are?”
“You know it is,” Liam replied calmly.
“Did you tell Riley that I was obsessed with her? That I was unhinged?” Drake demanded.
Liam’s eyes slid to Riley’s face then back to Drake, “You have been acting erratically, Drake. Nick…Tariq…coronation night…this! Stealing a plane? Really?”
“Borrowing it,” Drake corrected him, “You can have it back once we’re safely out of the country.”
“This is treason, Drake. Come on, man. Be reasonable!”
Drake’s back pressed against Riley, eyes still trained on Liam as he moved backward, nudging her up the first step. In a low voice, he told her, “Everything I did, I did for you! You understand that, right?”
“Don’t move!” One of the guardsmen yelled as Drake edged Riley up another step.
A rifle clicked.
Riley’s gaze swung around the room to take in the ridiculous number of guns pointed directly at Drake’s chest. “No!” she pushed around and in front of him, placing herself between him and the guns.
“Riley, don’t!” Both men yelled.
She spread both arms out in the air, “I won’t let you shoot him! Liam, please! He’s your best friend!”
“I don’t want to hurt him, Riley, but-“
An officer stepped up next to Liam and whispered something in his ear.
Drake kept the handgun grasped in one hand while the other landed on her shoulder, “Riley, get behind me and get on the plane!”
“No! They’ll shoot you!”
“Riley-“
Liam’s features hardened, “Riley, you don’t understand-“
“No, I don’t Liam! Why can’t we just leave?”
“Well for starters, Bastien is dead, and we have some questions,” Liam replied grimly.
“What?” Drake stumbled back like he’d been struck, shaking his head, “No! No!”
Liam’s face reddened, and his voice was laden with accusation, “You killed him!”
“No! I just disabled him! He was alive when I left!”
“Then who killed him, Drake?”
“I don’t know, Liam, you tell me!”
“Are you insinuating-“
“I’m not just insinuating, Li! You had him killed so he couldn’t reveal your father’s part in the plot against Riley!” Drake accused, then after a moment’s thought added, “And possibly so you could pin it on me!”
Liam’s eyes darted from Drake to Riley, “You’re not buying any of this, are you?”
“I don’t know, Liam.” Her eyes narrowed, “When I chose Drake, you told me I’d just made the biggest mistake of my life. That sure sounded like a threat.”
“When I said you’d made a mistake, I meant by trusting him!”
“But Drake’s been telling the truth about you, Liam, I heard it myself!”
“From whom?” Liam asked in astonishment.
“Jason.”
“Who’s Jason?”
Her confidence wavered, “The Lieutenant in charge of cyber security…”
“There’s no Lieutenant named Jason in the cyber division, Riley.” Liam shook his head sadly then extended his arm toward her, “Come on, Riley, just take a few steps forward and all this can be over.”
Drake’s fingers dug into her shoulder, as he moved up another step, pulling her after him, “He’s lying, Riley! Can’t you see that?”
“No, Riley,” Liam moved his fingers in a come hither motion, “He’s lying! Just take a few steps forward and come here.”
“So…you didn’t fire him and revoke his clearance?” Riley asked, uncertainty coloring her voice.
“Of course, I fired him and revoked his clearance!” Liam exploded, throwing both hands in the air, “he abused his position and literally kidnapped you!”
“I rescued you, Riley!” Drake protested, “He told you himself, he wanted you on that plane that night!”
Riley’s mind spun with indecision. She still had questions, “What about his assets?”
Liam’s brows furrowed, “What about them?”
“Did you have them frozen? Did you revoke his passport?”
“Yes! Because I was trying to stop him from doing exactly what he’s doing right now! Once he gets you out of Cordonia, I won’t be able to protect you! But it didn’t matter anyway.”
“What do you mean, it didn’t matter?”
“I mean…he had no assets to freeze. Why is that Drake?”
Drake shrugged as he adjusted the Barretta in his grip, “I moved all my assets out of Cordonia two days ago, Liam.”
“And why would you do that if you weren’t planning this little escapade all along?”
“Because I know how you operate! I had to protect myself, and her!” He lowered his voice so only Riley could hear, “That’s why I told Jason to do that part last. So it took longer for Liam to figure out I was a step ahead.”
“Me?” Liam scoffed, “I think you’re the tactical genius here.”
“I don’t know what you mean,” Drake said evenly as he moved up another step, pulling Riley up with him.
“I mean….I’m beginning to think maybe you were behind the whole setup with Tariq!”
“You think I sent him to do the thing I beat the dog shit out of him for? I never pegged you as delusional, Li.”
“Maybe you didn’t know about that part. Maybe that was all Bas’s idea.”
“Bas?” Drake snorted, “You know he only took orders from one person…your father! And we all know how badly he wanted you married to Madeleine! Speaking of Madeleine, are we sure she wasn’t in on the whole thing?”
“My father is far too sick to be meddling in my affairs. We all know the person Bas would have done anything for was you!”
“What?” Riley froze, almost to the top step.
“Think about it, Riley!” Liam insisted, “He contrived the entire scandal precisely because he knew what the protocol would be, he’s a trained, high-ranking officer after all! And he knew precisely what my reaction would be. He likes pointing out how well he knows me. He’s right. He does! He knew I’d want you out of the country and out of harm’s way while I investigated and cleared your name. It was the perfect opportunity for him to swoop in and play the hero, paint me as the villain. Which is exactly what he did, isn’t it?”
Panic laced Drake’s voice, “Riley, you’re not buying this, are you? He’s twisting everything!”
“How convenient that Bastien is dead,” Liam continued, “He was the only person that could have connected you to the scandal.”
“The only person that could have exonerated me and implicated your father you mean! That is convenient, isn’t it?”
“Riley, come here!” Liam’s voice cracked, betraying signs of his rising desperation.
“Riley, get on the plane…” Drake pleaded.
She hesitated as everything they had both said swirled through her mind. They both made persuasive arguments. She was never going to know the truth either way. How well did she really know either of these men?
There was one thing she did know for sure though, “Liam, I know one thing...”
“What’s that?”
“I know you’re a liar!”
His arm dropped as shock coursed through him, “What?”
“You told me you loved me! You told me you were going to marry me! You fucked me in the hedge maze and then you turned around five minutes later and got engaged to another woman while letting me be drug out of the palace under armed guard!”
“That was different! I’ve explained why! I have to think about Cordonia, Riley!”
“I understand that Liam. I do.” She nodded.
His body sagged with relief, “Good. Okay, come here,” he held his arm out toward her again.
She stepped back, her body pushing Drake up another step, “But…”
All the stress rushed back into his body, “But?”
“But I need a man who puts me first and Drake has proven he’s more than up to that task.”
Liam’s mouth fell open, “Even if he’s a liar and a murderer?”
“He’s not, Liam. You’re wrong about him!”
Drake took one more step back, into the plane then dropped the gun as he yanked Riley inside and slammed the door.
“Goddamn it!” Liam kicked fruitlessly at the ground.
“Sir?” The officer in charge of the scene approached him as the plane’s engine roared to life, sending half the contents of the hangar flying through the air.
Shouts of “Cover! Cover!” pinged off the walls as Liam was yanked backward and drug to safety.
Men scattered and dove out of the way as the plane taxied out of the hangar and onto the runway.
“Sir!” The commander yelled, “We can still stop them! We can aim for the pilot or the fuel tank!”
Liam watched as the plane picked up speed. He shook his head, “No, if the pilot’s dead, the plane will crash, if it loses all its fuel, there’s a chance it gets airborne before it runs out and plummets to the ground.”
He still wasn’t willing to risk her life.
“But sir-“
“It doesn’t matter,” Liam sighed as he watched the plane climb into the air. He still had one play left, “Get me Isabella Achilles on the phone. Now!”

Odd Company
There will be a day, that despite all of Legend’s groveling and pseudo frustration, in which he’ll come to terms with the odd quirks, and frankly bizarre habits of brothers.
Today was not that day.
They were deep within the bowels of a temple, what Legend assumed used to be a place of religious reverence. The crumbling statues, chiseled with their hands clasped together in prayer, which were placed around certain sigils of the golden goddesses gave him that guess, and the biblical-esque commandments that littered the floor.
They’d decided to split up at the entrance, to cover more ground. The temple was built into the side of a mountain, its entrance made in the bust of a mighty warrior ages past, or maybe ages future?  Legend gave up on trying to tell what timezone they were the moment that Valor tried explaining to him the common history of his era.
Once inside, Legend offered to handle the higher floors, which got a raised eyebrow from more than a few of his brothers. He typically liked to be in the front seat of whatever danger they might be facing, so the idea that he wanted to head topside, where there’d be less traps and less monsters, stuck out to them. Legend had his reasons, like how most of the locked doors and sealed chambers that these types of temples contained tended to be on lower levels, and the keys to access them tended to be located as far and as annoyingly away as the architects thought possible.
Before he’d gone up the stairs, Traveler volunteered to go with him, if only so he had someone to watch his back.
Legend appreciated that.
What Legend did not appreciate, was what Traveler was doing now.
“Y’know I’ve heard people say that licking these things lets you commune with the gods, but you have to boil them first.”
Legend, arm deep in a rusty, dusted chest, froze for a moment, if to contemplate what in the golden realms was Traveler talking about. He sprung up from the chest, and turned to see Traveler holding--
Was that a frog?
A luminescent, red spotted frog was held in his friend’s hands. It glowed brighter and hotter than any lantern, Legend could feel the heat radiating off of it’s bumped, textured skin like it was coming from a campfire. He didn’t know how Traveler was holding it, visibly excited no less.
“Let’s not do that, and seco-wait, wait, who says this? Who are you talking about?” Legend asked, more confused than irritated.
Traveler made a pondering hum, thinking over his experiences. He put the frog under his armpit, much like how a student might carry their book bag, counting on both his hands.
“Well there was that old man selling potions outside North Castle, and he told me that right before Zel--Dawn had to detain him on charges of alchemy without a license. That was a shame too, because they were good potio-”. “Oh so the illegal chemist told you, and now licking random animals is fine.” Legend said, cutting him off.
“Don’t get on your high horse here, you catch bees as a hobby, beekeeper boy.” Traveler retorted. “Oh?!? And that’s weirder than the animal licking? Name one other person who says licking frogs is a thing you should do.” Legend exclaimed.
“Fine, I will! There was a pastor in Saria that had them as home medicine for common diseases, and they worked fine.” Traveler said. “So that's a weird pastor, and the illegal potion dealer- fantastic track record.” Legend said.
“So when you meet old men in caves and woods, what they say is “advice” and “tips”, but when I take advice from strangers, it’s bad?” Traveler inquired, a hand on his hip. At this point, Legend’s head was in hands, in disbelief he was having this argument. “Oh Nayr-YES, YES, because I don’t just go with every random hint I’m told! I think critically about it.”
Traveler shook his head, still holding the frog under his other arm, who was strangely content in watching them fight.
“Nope, no, nado pal. You told me that the magic powder in your pouch was from gathering mushrooms in lost woods for a witch, how is that any different from the potion seller, and the frog.” Traveler said.
“Well she didn’t get arrested for one.” Legend shot back.
“How is she going to get arrested if Ganon had driven the royal family, and the actual government, into hiding?” “That’s semantics!” Legend said, crossing his arms.
Traveler didn’t respond, as a set of stomping footfalls up the stairs at the room’s entrance grabbed their attention, they both readied their swords in an instant, preparing for whatever monster had come to check on the noise.
“What are you two TALKING ABOUT”
It wasn’t a monster, and for some reason, Legend wished it was.
Wind stood in the doorway, a scowl painted on his face.
“We can hear you from the basement, you keep screwing up Twi and Wild’s timing on a puzzle.”
“We thought you two were in danger.”
Legend was unabashed, not turned away by Wind’s anger. He wasn’t leaving this without proving his point, so help him Din.
“Oh Traveler’s is going to be, REAL soon if he goes through with what he was doing.”
Wind whipped to face Traveler, and noticed the frog, and his expression changed to one of sudden realization.
“Oh were you going to lick that? You know you’re supposed to boil them first?” “For the LOVE O-”

Chapter 3 of my socialstuck.exe fic is out! excerpt below the cut:
Wikipedia picked up Greentext with a sigh. it tilted its head at him innocuously. did it know it was the last surviving snoo? did it realize that only Reddit knew how to take care of them, and this one only survived through 4Chans repeated trial and error efforts?
"don't you also know how to maintain them?" Ao3 asked.
"no, I… think you're thinking of Fanwiki."
"what happened to her?"
Wiki bristled. "I don't wanna talk about it."
"oh."
this was hardly the time to get pissed at her , who was hopefully and probably dead. they were supposed to be grieving. though, it was pretty hard to grieve over 4Chan. she hardly deserved to get corrupted, but he didn't know her well enough to miss her. and what he did know of her was largely unpleasant.
the last of Reddit's legacy dying would be pretty depressing, though.
"I think I'll keep this guy in my room until he runs out of battery," Wikipedia decided, tucking Greentext under his arm.
He looked around the room, mostly empty now and just in need of cleaning. Kik promised to do just that later, and Amino would probably move in whenever it got here.
"Is that everything?" Ao3 asked, and after a moment Wikipedia left the room.
"did they really not say anything?" Wikipedia asked as they travelled to his room. "neither 4Chan nor YouTube had anything to say in all that time you were down there?"
but once again, Ao3 shook his head.
how were they supposed to properly update their pages if he didn't even have any last words to go off of?
Wikipedia wracked his own head for anything 4Chan might've said before leaving, but she had a tendency to get up and leave without a word and no one had thought much of it in years. if they knew that would be the last time seeing her un-corrupted, would someone have said anything?
The thought made Wikipedia feel sad and weird , so he dismissed it. "Wait," he remembered suddenly. "didn't she keep a journal?"
"yeah…" Ao3 admitted reluctantly. "But, it's practically illegible by her own admission."
Wikipedia plopped Greentext down on their bed before making a 360 out to make his way downstairs. "Ao3, I'm a linguistics expert, I can read anything."
the room downstairs was, for a change, somewhat lit by a dying campfire. the place was covered in neon red and green blood, most still fresh.
YouTubes corpse had been dragged off by Kik a bit ago, and of course 4Chan- or, her corruption anyway, had been hastily locked out the safehouse. the scratching at the door had stopped a few hours ago.
the journal he found near the campfire, opened to a page near the middle. after picking it up and trying to read it for a few seconds he could already feel a headache coming on. he could translate this, for sure, but it'd take time and more aspirin than he had on hand right now.
still, the straightforward task cleared his head a little of the confused grief.
