it's been an age since i've been into naruto, and now that i have plans on making my own version on how naruto shippuden ended, i was wondering, how do you think naruto shippuden should've ended? like are you pro or anti naruhina? pro or anti sasusaku? whats your opinions on how the fourth war was played out? if you already spoke about this i'm sorry lol but im just wondering.
OMG HIIIIIIII @ofrolysdogs you're one of my OGs! How have you been????? Please please tag me or let me know once you create your rework. that sounds so intriguing!
This post is gonna be controversial, beauties.
How do you think Naruto Shippuden should've ended?
Ideally, with Naruto realizing that he doesn't need to become hokage to get the attention and validation from the people he loves and cares about. Or at the very least, with Naruto becoming hokage but abolishing the shinobi system. Maybe even make Danzo hokage along the way, just when Tsunade falls into her coma, and slowly make Naruto question the system more and more. Also, Sasuke's whole "redemption" arc should have been handled differently. First and foremost, he was a victim. He did a few things that were wrong, and I agree that there need to be consequences, but for this redemption arc I'd rather have him travel around and teach people around the world about the customs and culture of the Uchiha.
Are you pro or anti naruhina? pro or anti sasusaku?
I am both Anti NaruHina and Anti SasuSaku, but for two different reasons. I used to be a hardcore SNS shipper, but not so much nowadays. NaruHina had so much potential, they could have explored their class and privilege differences together, learning from each other and stuff. But Neji dying for their ship to sail? That was a hate crime. The reason I'm Anti SasuSaku is because I simply don't really like the thought of shipping Sasuke with anyone. He has enough to go through and putting him in a romantic relationship is not something that would make it more interesting or add stakes to it, although I wouldn't mind seeing him adopt a kid or two, given how family oriented Sasuke is.
Whats your opinions on how the fourth war was played out? I found the use of Edo tensei very interesting, albeit a little cheapened here and there. The Itachi and Sasuke vs Kabuto fight was a little disappointing. Don't get me wrong, I loved seeing he two of them fight together side by side, and Itachi's final parting was very touching - but them fighting Kabuto of all people? Maybe if Kishi fleshed out Kabuto's story a little more, he clearly had no idea what to do with him. Poor bastard.
Madara just 'knowing' the hand signs of edo tensei is actually not so unlikely, but it still irks me how he was able to just "come back" when Edo Tensei was released.
And let's not talk about the power scaling, which went completely through the roof in the end. Oof. Kaguya, as is, ruined the storyline completely. It could have worked, but not in the way it was executed in shippuden.
But alas, I suppose there is only so much Kishi can do within the confines of a genre.

omg new chapter jst dropped im still reading i jst finishdd read coins letter and man i already love him sm
Like (spoiler alert ig if anyone's on tumblr before reaching the chapter???))
Hes so so so so funny and and :(( hes so dad figure coded
"Not even the great pirate era smh 😕" so real for that boo
ALSO ALSO ED AND COIN SPENDING THE TIMESKIP TOGETHER IS ALSO SOMETHING I PREDICTED Ed is gonna be such a badass. Also the line that goes "wherever you are, ill find you" makes me feel like you might legit make ed have both the coin training arc and be on the execution stand and i have never been more excited for something because i feel like if you do that we might get a luffy pov 🤭🤭🤭
Him going around calling ed his kid made me so happy. Guess ed wont have to worry abt getting too close to whitebeard now that they have their own found family dad "You’re probably something to brag about so I wanted a head start." Ed deserves to be bragged about 🗣‼️‼️‼️
him immediately saying that if rayleigh says his name is a dick joke hes lying is so sibling coded (and rlly zoro and ed coded i feel)
"And no matter what — what you’re fighting for right now, what your morals are, how shit you think your personality is, any of that bullshit — you couldn’t possibly disappoint me. " i cried, i sobbed, i shoved my head in my pillow and screamed.
And and "Just remember you’re everything, everything is going to be fine, and I’m gonna help you anyway I’m capable." :((( hes so cool i love him fr
"PLEASE do not prove me wrong on that one oml. I mean make your own choices slay queen pussy boss" hes the best. Friendship ended with Ed, Coin is my favorite self insert oc now.
"Pick you up later kiddo" FATHER??? bro is not only ed's dad hes my dad too now. Jst. *takes him and runs away*
I read the letter so many times i should probably get to the rest of the chapter this is gonna get long im srry in advance for yapping sm 😔
Glad we might have a reasonable explanation for teach knowing ed because that shit was worrying
The more i learn abt coin the more i want him as my father :/
The crew thinking ed might leave them makes me even more worried abt the timeskip. Eds so relatable hitting a lil too close to home w the attachment issues codependency line
ik i probs said this before but goddamn do i love the way you portray the strawhats and their dynamics
They're finally talking abt the convo ed and luffy had and the new world and im honestly hopeful abt this, without ace at the execution stand and, again im jst assuming atp, ed taking his place marineford might go way differently. Honestly them still being able to somewhat joke around makes me feel better. At least when they get separated it'll play into what they wanted to happen and what they were planning to do
OMG OMG OMG SABO SABOOOOO MY BABY OMG WHEN I TELL YOU I SCREAMED WHEN I READ THAT HOLY SHIT
Thank you once again for blessing us with this amazing chapter, i will be off to reread it a dozen times now.
Coin is my specialist of guys and so sweet and lovely I just ADORE that parental figure-shaped man.
The way writing a Luffy POV would kill me. My man has no internal dialogue what the hell would I write for his silly goofy ass???? (I say this but I absolutely will write Luffy POV at some point, oneshot or not.)
I wonder if Coin works like an anti-Whitebeard shield. Like does his cool dad/uncle energy cancel out the daddy issues aura????
Tfw your kid is SO MUCH to brag about you gotta start before they even exist just to even hope of reaching an adequate amount of bragging. My man has that unconditional love in him where the dog should be.
The fear of abandonment came free with your SSSBMTY subscription.

1. Tell us why you like James Potter! I want a whole essay please and thank you!
"Why I Love Like James Potter" by jamesunderwater 1/27/24
So, I think an important context for my feelings about James Potter is that (as you know) I am a fandom elder. Which means, I already had an extreme attachment to James Potter and his pals before we ever even got the Snape’s Worst Memory chapter. I just looked it up, and somehow I was only ten when OotP came out, so evidently I was massively in love with Sirius Black and obsessed with the Marauders before I hit double digits. (Jesus, no wonder they’re molded with my identity.) The point being – before he was anything else to me, James Potter was the man who bravely sacrificed himself for his family, whose core feature was defined by Sirius’s declaration that they “would have died rather than betray their friends.” He was the guy who figured out how to become an animagus just to be a supportive friend, and based on the few lines that the Marauders have through the Map in PoA, he was hilarious. And really, the fandom kinda just took that and ran with it. So by the time OotP came out and we got so much more information on him – and his dynamic with Lily (cue me sighing dreamily here) – James Potter was already a venerated figure in my mind. -- OMG I just had a buried memory pop up of the Harry Potter Trading Cards as well, which, I don’t think I had one / there was one for James, but there was one for Lily, where she was holding toadspawn?? Or something? and I was in love with her just based on her cute face and red hair and bright eyes, so obviously I’m gonna also be infatuated with the guy who got to marry her.
Okay I got a bit off the point.
I guess reflecting on it, the way I fell in love with James as a character was very different than how I did for Sirius, and it’s in part due to Sirius being alive in the books, but also speaks to who James is, too. I fell in love with Sirius for who Sirius is, all by himself. I fell in love with James for who he is with other people. I loved the guy who would do anything for his friends. I loved the guy who had this magnetic dynamic with the fiery redhead. I loved the guy who was brilliant and loved by all, and didn’t think twice about sacrificing himself for his family. And I think that this has, for the most part, remained the core of why I love him.
But of course, I’ve grown up a lot since then, and so have my feelings and opinions.
– intermission to say I looked back at the ask and realized it only asks about why I like the character, which…somehow changes some of my answer, but we’re gonna try to roll them together –
Okay, so why I both like and love James as a character now has a lot more to do with the nuances of him. I love that he isn’t perfect. He’s multi-dimensional, and I think his character is a great opportunity to investigate growing up. I think that progression is harder to see in some of the other characters (I have thoughts on why but they aren’t the point right now), but James is just this splendid example of how someone can be so fundamentally good, and also be a fucking kid. He’s messy and that doesn’t make him any less of a “hero” or a “good guy,” but not in your traditional anti-hero or villain arc kind of way. I dunno, maybe it’s in part because I relate to this feeling of not always being a “good person” growing up. I could be arrogant, and mean, and over-dramatic, and stubborn, but people still saw me as a good, likable person, and eventually I did grow out of a lot of the harsher aspects of those characteristics. I love that James gives permission for that, to inspect the dualities within people.
And on a basic level, I think he was kind of the picture of everything I wanted to have and be. His physical looks / physique is what I’ve been drawn to in men, and eventually realized it’s what I wanted to look like myself; he has this found family that he’s built that is truly a family, this best friend who accepts him fully and he accepts fully and they’re attached at the hip; he becomes a person deserving of and complementary to a strong, independent, kind woman; and his kid is Harry Potter, who truly is one of my favorite characters of all time. So.
I dunno, I feel like this isn’t as eloquent as I wanted it to be… I’d be very curious to hear other people’s thoughts added onto this (yours and others’!) because I know there’s so much more that I’m missing that other people would say.
I got to nearly 850 words, though, so hopefully this essay is sufficient enough to earn me a B, at least.

Haha we meme on Stilgar as the funny "LISAN AL-GAIB" man but tbh I think there's a lot of nuance towards his character arc in how he doesn't really start off that way? In the context of Part 2, I mean. Because I think of how early in the film he approaches Jessica about becoming Reverend Mother, and he pretty blatantly acknowledges that Paul isn't necessarily the Lisan al-Gaib; The way Stilgar has to basically strong arm Jessica into agreeing doesn't come across as a fanatical worshipper appealing to his gods. He knows he holds power over these outsiders and he's blunt about it behind closed doors, more or less admitting that he isn't 100% sure but this Lisan al-Gaib figure is very useful for helping the Fremen overthrow their oppressors, so that's where Stilgar is throwing his lot.
It reminds me of a lot of the discussion regarding the Catholic church, particularly in regards to stuff like Galileo. I remember a lot of the mainstream assumption being that the Pope and his followers were superstitious guys who were genuinely afraid of deviating from the Bible, but then actual historians came around and painted a more realistic picture; In the end, it wasn't that they necessarily thought the sun went around the earth. It was that by challenging what the church decreed, Galileo challenged their authority and made them seem weaker; And so they had to double down on their geocentric understanding of the universe to defend that. Similarly, King James I didn't necessarily believe in witches, but they did provide a handy boogeyman to rally his people against, and make himself seem like a more legitimate leader.
That's how I see Stilgar, as he starts off; He doesn't necessarily worship the Lisan al-Gaib, but he believes that a messianic figure is just the kick the Fremen need to rally together and defeat their colonizers. Everybody loves a martyr, after all. He might chant about the Mahdi, but his priority has always been the Fremen people, and he is their true leader, with Paul being the puppet face he's pushing everyone into paying attention to.
The scene where Paul denies being the Mahdi, only for Stilgar to be like "Omg the Mahdi is so humble that means he is the Mahdi!!!" feels less like he actually thinks this, and more like... He's bullshitting his way into interpreting whatever Paul does, even if it seems fairly anti-Mahdi, as proof that he's the guy the Fremen need. Paul denouncing the idea was pretty inconvenient but Stilgar found a way to make it work; I guess it’s like how Jessica is also trying to push an unwilling Paul to embrace his role, but for different reasons. And Paul and Stilgar seem much more in tune with one another over how far they’ll go, because they’re much more in agreement about this being for the sake of the Fremen; Indeed, before he drinks the Water of Life, Paul seems to begrudgingly go along because he’s been convinced that it will help these people that he realizes he cares about too, which leads to his outburst at his mother when he feels her motives are insincere (unlike Stilgar’s).
So Stilgar is, for a while, the actual leader of the Fremen, and he is knowingly using Paul and Jessica for his people's freedom, without being aware that he's falling for the Bene Gesserit's propaganda to begin with. He thinks it can't be that bad, he's got a handle on it, but Chani knows better. And I should clarify that I don't blame Stilgar for this, he is an indigenous leader fighting back against colonization who desperately needs what he can get, and Paul and Jessica do end up colonizing the Fremen themselves.
Plus, he's still fairly decent to Paul himself, because even if Stilgar doesn't necessarily consider him the messiah, he still views Paul as an ally that can help the Fremen; That's how he becomes a friend to Paul. When Stilgar pulls Paul over and reassures him not to get a Sandworm too big, everyone already believes in him, it feels like they’re both in on the mutual secret that Paul isn’t necessarily the messiah but he IS a rallying figure for the Fremen, so they both play into that for the sake of the Fremen, right? There’s still enough of a level field that Stilgar can pull over the Mahdi for a private conversation away from the others about something potentially scandalous, rather than the other way around.
But then that friendship is ruined, because somewhere along the way Stilgar sees Paul's achievements rack up, and get closer and closer, in an uncanny way, to the prophecy; And Stilgar begins to think, Oh hey that's actually just like what was written. Okay that's only what a Lisan al-Gaib could do. Holy shit I think he might actually, literally, be a magical chosen one. And now Stilgar is willing to eat his own shit for Paul if the Lisan al-Gaib told him to. And that's why Paul mourns their lost friendship, because you can't have a real friendship with such an inherent power imbalance between worshipper and their God.
And it's all pretty sad to me, that Stilgar started off as a dude basically entertaining what he acknowledges may be a white lie, for the sake of his people... Only to find himself realizing this 'white lie' might be the real deal, and being so caught up in that revelation that before he knows it, he now prioritizes the Lisan al-Gaib over the Fremen this guy was supposed to be for. I think of how Stilgar kneels to sacrifice himself so Paul can become leader, as tradition; But then Paul says no, and Stilgar defies his own Fremen tradition because the Lisan al-Gaib told him to.
He lost sight of who this was supposed to be about, and that's why Stilgar sees nothing wrong with leading his fellow Fremen off of their homeworld to die fighting a bunch of strangers on foreign worlds. He doesn't object to Paul holding hostage their own way of life. He wasn't exactly superstitious, or at least Stilgar had people he prioritized over those beliefs; But when you see so many miracles, you begin to fear the divine and hold it above all else. Stilgar and Paul both felt the need to push this Lisan al-Gaib idea as a necessary evil, the only way to help the Fremen out of their dilemma, only to become fanatical mad men by the end of it. Maybe the idea of a Messiah seemed an easy lie, a safer and more practical way out of colonialism; But it ended up being colonialism but with a different, unrecognizable face. Because despite the promise to liberate Arrakis from the Harkonnens, the Fremen ended up worshipping a Harkonnen.

Ok I am in rant mode again, sorry, this blog just happens to be a place where I dump all my thoughts negative and positive both, unfortunately for all who follow me. But I have seen some bad and incorrect takes from anti darkling/darklinas. So here’s just a few things I want to say.
Firstly LB has never stated that she based the darkling on her ab*sive ex. This is misinformation that was spread by antis. The only thing she has ever said about an ab*sive relationship was that she wrote the first book, Shadow and Bone, at a dark time in her life right after she had got out of a bad relationship. She has said in the past that the darkling was inspired by every bad boy she’s had a crush on in fiction including david bowie’s the goblin king.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So it seems from these comments like the character was supposed to emulate those types of characters that woman find attractive, the ones you would fall for.
I’ve also seen the argument that LB clearly wrote the darkling as a villain, well LB might disagree with you there as she herself has said on multiple occasions that she doesn’t write villains:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
LB says that the darkling believes he is doing the right thing and that ‘you can make a case for most of the choices he makes, even the despicable ones.’ So if LB says that she doesn’t write villains and that you can make a case for his actions you can’t really blame darkling fans for doing the same.
The truth is LB promoted the heck out of both the darkling and darklina (or as it was known back then Darlina and Alarkling) when she was writing the og trilogy, even admitting to ‘fanning the flames’ when talking about people shipping m*lina and darklina and was clearly encouraging the shipping of both ships:
Tumblr media
She also put out teases for the darkling and darklina:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And promoted darklina fan edits even using the ship tags:
Tumblr media
It was only post the release of book three that she changed her tune, likely because of all the backlash she got about the ending of the books. So no LB wasn’t always against fans shipping darklina or liking the darkling. All of this information is easily found with a simple google search, I wasn’t even in the fandom back then being a show watcher first and yet I was still able to learn all of this with minimal difficulty.
Which brings me to the whole darklina being an allegory for a older man manipulating a younger girl and how the darklina fans ‘missed this’. Well if they did miss it then it was for a very good reason, but the truth is darklina’s didn’t miss it, we just didn’t think it made sense within the narrative, the darklina fandom have talked about it, myself included, in fact I’ve already posted a whole pretty much essay on the topic. But let me explain why some people may have ‘missed it’ and why it doesn’t work in the story or with darklina as the allegory. The first is because LB chose to use an immortal/immortal couple for this allegory. The thing with immortality in fiction, especially as love interests, is it makes age pretty much meaningless. The whole point of immortals is that they are ageless. Immortal ships have always been accepted within fiction and this whole age gap issue has never come up before. Nobody was going omg but the age gap yuck with Bella and Edward when twilight came out, or when Magnus and Alec got together in Shadowhunters or with any of the ships in Vampire Diaries. Yet now anti’s are trying to use the argument that the darkling is 100s of years older than Alina and that’s creepy all of a sudden. Sorry but not in my book, an immortal is always going to be significantly older than anyone else what’s the alternative they spend eternity alone, never knowing love? At least with darklina they are both immortal. Another reason why it doesn’t work is because of how the darkling is described in the book, he is said to not look much older than Alina, so in the books he looks like a teenager. So of course people weren’t going to pick up on the older guy/younger girl allegory because the darkling isn’t presented in the books as an older guy. He’s described the same way every other immortal being in every YA book at that time was. It’s also worth noting that I am not sure if LB ever actually said that darklina were supposed to represent a older guy with a younger girl or whether that was something the fandom came up with. I’m not saying she didn’t just that I myself have never seen a direct quote from her that I recall and I wasn’t able to find one. I think the first time I heard of it was when someone sent me an ask about the topic. I know that she has said it was meant to serve as a warning of attractive and charismatic men being able to manipulate young girls but I don’t know that she herself has ever talked about an age gap or specifically mentioned older men?
Another thing that I have been seeing alot of are comments like darkling/darklina fans only like him because he is hot. What bothers me about this is firstly even if that were true and the only reason people liked him was because he is hot, so what? There’s nothing wrong with that, its fiction and fiction is used to escape for a bit, its for enjoyment and entertainment, so if that enjoyment and entertainment comes in the form of staring at the hot guy irregardless of whether they are the hero or villain, let them be. Why are you criticising the way someone enjoys fiction? Sometimes a gal just wants to look at the hot guy. Secondly its just a really irrelevant argument because the darkling is not the only hot, charismatic character in the books or show. M*l is also described as being attractive and charismatic with no shortage of friends and girls, Nikolai is another character that fits that description, so by this argument the only reason M*l fans like him is because he is hot, and the only reason Nikolai fans like him is because he is hot. Thirdly its just plainly not true, whilst I am sure there may be some fans who only like him because he is hot, again nothing wrong with that, most fans like him for a variety of different reasons because he is an interesting and complicated character. As someone who spends a fair bit of time in the darkling/darklina tags the most common reason I have seen for fans liking him is because of his dedication to the grisha, his willingness to fight for the grisha something that he has dedicated 100′s of years of his life too. Personally I like Aleksander/the darkling because he has a sympathetic backstory, because he is fighting for the grisha and when seeing that they had no place to go where they could be free from fear he vowed to make them a safe place, a sanctuary, of course I am going to root for that goal too. I like him because he is complicated and complex and despite being an immortal being who has become deeply effected by past traumas there is still something beautifully human about him, particularly in the show. I also like the connection he has with Alina, the whole yin/yang of it and them being each others balance. I love the complexity and angst of them having this deep connection and pull to each other but also having this anger and sense of betrayal, how they have to try and navigate around having different points of view and seeing the world in a different ways, it makes for a very compelling story and their chemistry in the show is electric. The fact that he is hot is merely a bonus, but even if he wasn’t a conventionally attractive person I would still like his character because of those complexities, because of that connection he has with Alina. But one thing this rant has done is make me curious as to what my other fellow darkling/darklina fans like about the darkling? What drew you to the character? Anyway that’s enough ranting for one day, again my apologies, I am going to go and rewatch season 1 of shadow and bone in preparation for season 2′s release tomorrow...sheepishly shuffles off my soapbox, waving awkwardly.

what do you read in your spare time? you’re one of the most eloquent users i know, id love to hear how you find the media you consume and what your favorites are
omg ei 😊 welcome back to the inbox! thank you for your sweet words although i'm probably not qualified enough to be considered the full definition of eloquent. i am going to preface this post by saying that i definitely don't read as much as i should, so this list is not going to be comprehensive whatsoever. the last time i even visited an in-person library was like half a decade ago, and since then my spare time has been nonexistent lmao. anyways, here are some of my favorite/most recent reads as listed by author:
Tumblr media
POETRY
richard siken: i think siken is already well-known both in the literary world and in whatever booktok deems is popular culture. if you don't already know him though, he is best known for his poetry collection crush, which delves into themes of obsession, gay love, and violent eroticism. i actually read this chapbook unknowingly. as in i was hounding sketchy pdf download sites at 3 AM and saw a man with bloodied lips on the cover and decided to read it. he basically became my summer fever dream after that. the way he juxtaposes images is seamless, smoother than water. only richard siken can talk about violence without making it sound violent. i also enjoyed his other poetry collection war of the foxes, especially "portrait of fryderyk in shifting light." i think light is a common motif throughout most of his poems, and he manipulates it effortlessly. the most recent piece i read from him is "piano lesson." i have nothing left to say that he didn't already say, so i would just recommend reading it for yourself. he is the og big brain when it comes to word play.
ocean vuong: he's unforgettable, and i mean that literally because nobody forgets a person named ocean. time is a mother was exactly what the name suggests: an exploration of grief, loss, and the rewind of time after his mother's death. some of the poems are almost cinematic in quality. "künstlerroman" is my favorite because it feels exactly like watching a video tape in reverse. i think his most famous work is "someday i'll love ocean vuong." it was the first piece i ever read from him, and to this day, it remains my comfort poem.
silas denver melvin: i only recently discovered him through his chapbook grit. i think he's also on tumblr @/sweatermuppet. he writes a lot on the trans experience, and his work gives me a mix of southern gothic and country vibes. would definitely read his other publications if i had the time.
chen chen: one thing about chen chen is that he always comes to devour. my favorite works from him are "self-portrait as so much potential" and "song of the anti-sisyphus." you have to put on your thinking cap for some of his poems, but once you grasp the meaning, everything makes sense all at once.
franny choi: "disaster means without a star" was the entire inspiration behind my first rin fic. i relate to her more personally in regards to the diaspora experience, but her collections are worth reading in general because of the sheer quality.
pages matam: his poem "piñata" was what got me into slam poetry. his work mostly consists of political commentary which i feel is particularly relevant in today's social climate. "on learning america's english" also resonates with people who have encountered the entire losing/learning immigrant tongues experience.
laura lamb brown-lavolie: i've only read one spoken word poem from her, and tbh i only needed to read one. "on this the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the titanic, we reconsider the buoyancy of the human heart" is my two-headed calf poem. one day i will get this tattooed.
brendan constantine: once again, this was the result of me being chronically online coupled with the boredom of an august heat wave. i found "the opposites game" through TED. honestly, i was a bit unsure about it at first, but it's a cute little poem that makes you really delve into the intricacies of craft.
TEEN POETRY & PROSE
yasmeen khan: she could mouth her words onto every square inch of my body, and i would still be coming back for more. ingraining them into flesh is not enough. "movie stars" is by far my favorite work from her. she writes about femininity and womanhood so profoundly. it's tragic, but really i wouldn't have it end any other way.
kaya dierks: her writing is basically middle-of-nowhere small town stoner teenage life but personified. "crushed" is my favorite piece from her. the soundtrack for this work was definitely by ethel cain, and you cannot convince me otherwise.
FICTION
madeline miller: i was first introduced to her when i read the song of achilles. let's just say that book had me nonverbal for the greater half of three months. it was my metaphorical hatchet. i buried it once, and i never want to dig it up again. i read circe a few years later. the first time was during the blue hour at an airport, right between one red-eye flight and another transfer. i don't even remember that experience because i was heavily sleep-deprived. i read it again recently for a literature course, this time for academic analysis. overall, i enjoy the the heroine-centric narrative. typically, i'm a bit wary of novels with heavy feminist themes because they either project their agenda too strongly or they run the risk of misrepresentation. circe doesn't exactly have that problem. it was more about empowerment and less about exercising power over others.
charlotte brontë: as a historical figure, brontë was questionable, but jane eyre most certainly was not. that book rewired my brain, and that is saying something because i have never read any classic by choice. and it is so important to me that jane was the ugliest, plainest girl you could ever imagine. also cus i unironically enjoy angst, and this book was full of dramatic misunderstandings.
yoko ogawa: i love japanese literature, so there is no reason not to include this one here. "a peddler of tears" is one of my favorite short stories. i did not expect the ending at all, but it was welcome. something about violence, body gore, and dismemberment being framed as romantic and semi-erotic just gets to me. sign me the hell up. hotel iris is a hit-or-miss with some people. either you like the fact that art makes you uncomfortable or you shut it down completely. for me, i was alright with exploring some of its darker themes, but read at your own discretion.
NONFICTION
ross gay: he lives up to his name both in optimism and in carefree joy. probably one of my favorite creative nonfiction authors simply based off the accessibility of his writing style. easy to read and understand but still hits you with the full force of a semi-truck. i would recommend his book inciting joy. it's a collection of essays that delve into grief, but since this is ross gay, he makes it seem like a quintessential part of life.
paul kalanithi: sixteen-year-old me was mind blown by him cus before that doctors were shrewish old men with bald spots and sterile coats, not poetic surgeons who dissected the anatomy of word and recited t.s. eliot in the most heart-wrenching way possible. he is everything i want to become in both life and death. when breath becomes air literally does take your breath away.

OMG!!! (VI)
A/N : Yes... yes another one... will this be the last one? Don't look at me like that! This COULD be the last one! It could! Don't laugh... This can totally be the last one!
( Series Chapter List )
Nora and Pyrrha felt a little... deceptive. Neither could or would admit they had their "episode" due to seeing Joan in a very alluring maid costume. So they just ambushed her with a barrage of questions about what she had been up to.
"I... um... I have a job." Joan fidgeted, an obvious tell-tale sign she wasn't being... completely honest.
"A job?" Nora asked, burying any thought of needling Joan about what she was really doing. "What type of job?"
"Just a job."
"So that's what's taking up all your free time?" Pyrrha asked, fighting her own anti-lying response, of blurting out "I'm Sorry!"
"Yes. It takes a lot of time, and preparation but I like it, and it helps me cover my tuition and living costs." Joan pouted "Seeing as I don't have any scholarships or sponsors."
"Joan... you could have come to us. We would have helped." Nora offered.
"Nora's right, Joan. If you need help, we'll be glad to help."
"Thank you, but I can't rely on you guys for everything." Joan commented, "You guys already help me out so much... I just needed to do this for myself."
"We understand. Just make sure you're doing... a job... you actually like. Don't do something you're not comfortable doing just because you need money."
"Oh, I love this job." Joan beamed Nora and Pyrrha with a blinding smile. "It takes a lot of time, but it's so fun to do!"
Joan didn't see Pyrrha flinch, but Nora did. It was a direct hit to Pyrrha's feelings, and mental image of her crush. Nora knew this was a bad sign. A bad, bad sign, and she would need to step in for some damage control.
"I'm... I'm glad you found something you like doing so much." Pyrrha responded through clenched teeth.
"I'm so glad you approve!" Joan chirped as she hopped forward and pulled Pyrrha into her ample chest.
"So are you done work? If you are we should go get something to eat." Nora asked.
"I think..." Joan released Pyrrha and checked her scroll, "Shit!"
"J... Joan?" Nora stammered out, having never heard JNPR's fearless leader swear, once ever.
"Sorry, I have a stream... er... I mean a shift to do." Joan shoved her scroll back into her pocket. "Later or tomorrow?"
"Tomorrow would be lovely." Pyrrha chimed in.
"Tomorrow sounds good." Nora added.
Joan beamed her pair of friends another 1000 watt smile, before rushing off. Nora and Pyrrha looked at each other, before rushing back to JNPR's dorm. Bursting through the door, the pair rushed over to Pyrrha's blood stained bed, and grabbed her scroll.
"Ewwwwwww" Pyrrha cringed as she used only two fingers to lift her scroll from the mess it had been dropped in. "Ummmmm..."
"Use my scroll?" Nora asked.
"Please?"
Nora reached into her pocket and pulled out her clean scroll, and handed it to Pyrrha so she could log into GoldenAngel(Joan)'s stream.
"PYR!" Nora shrieked.
Tumblr media
"I must resist." Nora grunted as she turned from Pyrrha's downed form to the video stream, "You don';t KNOW the power you hold Joan!"
Tumblr media
"I'm back!" The chat exploded with comments and requests. "You missed me! Oh thank you! Kisses!"
Nora struggled, between watching, helping Pyrrha and succumbing to Joan's charms herself.
"I have BIG NEWS!" GoldenAngel(Joan) giggled out, "I'm setting up an ONLY-FANS!"
Tumblr media
Once again in under twelve hours Pyrrha and Nora found themselves waking up in the infirmary, this time with an extremely distraught Joan and a slightly annoyed Ren waiting on them.

Dearest Mary,
may I please request something where Riven and reader [girlfriend/fiancée/wife] and the reader is maybe Sky's sister and both get overprotective of her?
ABSOLUTELY OMG
tw, some guy slapped the reader's ass before this happened, so
Tumblr media
You stormed into the room ahead of the two men running after you, holding your head in both hands, a headache already throbbing behind your temples.
"Shut up!", you groaned, throwing yourself onto the bed - Riven's bed - and grabbing the pillow to press it down on your face, trying to suffocate yourself. Death would be easier than dealing with these two.
"He fucking slapped your ass, what did you think I'd do, tell him to come back tomorrow?", Riven asked, his face still a little red, his hair a mess from how often he'd run his hands through it, his voice still dripping with anger.
"Let me deal with it!", you muffled into the pillow, hearing Sky say the same thing at the same time. You rolled your eyes - not that they could see.
"Why the fuck would I let you deal with it?", Riven asked, and you didn't even have to be able to watch them to know that he'd turned around to face Sky. "You stood on the other side of the hallway!"
"She's my sister", he hissed.
"She's my fucking girlfriend!", Riven shot back.
You lifted the pillow and threw it at the both of them. It wouldn't do any good anyway. You couldn't escape this conversation as much as you wanted to.
"My god, shut up, the both of you assheads!", you nagged, sitting up in the bed. "None of you had to 'deal with it', I could've fucking incinerated him in the matter of a second! Fairy, remember?"
You sighed, running a hand over your face before you spoke again.
"It's nice of you to want to deal with it, I'm not saying it's not. God, be angry, please, I'm fucking furious, I don't think I've ever felt this much rage. But that was my fight, that was my bastard to punch. Ever thought about the fact that maybe I would've liked to give him that bloody nose, Riv? Ever thought about the fact that maybe I would've liked to kick him in the ass, Sky?"
Because that was exactly what they'd done - Riven had been next to you when it had happened, and before you'd even fully turned around to look at the guy's face, Riven had already punched him right in the nose. Sky must have seen what had happened, because (after Riven had punched him a second time, screaming some curses and obscenities at him along the way) he had come at him a second later, connecting his boot with the guy's backside, sending him toppling over to land face-first on the ground.
Miss Fowling had appeared a moment later, separated everyone (there'd still been a lot of chaos, Riven had still been yelling (you'd had to hold him back or he'd have jumped right back into the fight) and the guy had still been bleeding, now also holding his nose as tears streamed down his face), then brought you all to her office, and when everything had been settled (she'd not screamed, which you found very admirable): Riven and Sky were both in detention for a month. The other guy for two. And signed up for multiple anti-harassment seminars. And appointments with Miss Fowling herself, to 'talk'.
You hadn't got any punishment. Which was reasonable, of course, because you'd done nothing, but that was exactly the reason why you'd stormed out of the office the second she had dismissed you.
"I know, I know", Sky sighed, flopping down on his own bed. "I'm sorry."
You both looked up at Riven, who stood there for a moment, snorting and huffing and shaking his head.
Then he too sat down on the bed (yours, or - actually his own) and pulled you into his arms, your face against his chest, his chin on top of your head.
"You should've had the chance to kick his ass", he muttered with a grin. "Sorry."
It was rare that he apologised.
You sighed.
"Thanks, guys", you said. "For standing up for me as well. Even if I really would've liked to do it myself."

autism blast me on why you like toby
*Cracks knuckles*
he's literally me
Ok good day
No but for real ever since like 5th grade, (i was around 11???) i remember finding his story after very unmonitored internet access through DA (i was and still am addicted to DA) and after reading it, it was like, wow. Okay- thats really relatable. I struggled with severe family issues with the same problem of alcohol and gambling, along with also losing a sibling. I went through severe bullying and everything else what not, not to make it about me or anything but i didn't have much of an outlet at all, i never got into anime, fashion(basic fashion), never had many friends irl. I was already 'in the fandom' but didn't know much about him til i genuinely sat down and found it on accident while searching fandom tags. (back when kastoway actually posted there still)
I would literally stalk the acc man it was BAD. i always used him to vent and as an outlet, i loved the art style and my art would occasionally be influenced by it unconsciously. I would write and roleplay a ton and eventually developed my own take and interpretation. I find tons of comfort in anti-hero like characters and this fandom has been the only thing i ever felt welcomed in. And the only thing i seem to like as i am still not into much else but horror and cosplay. I wish i was my age now (19) back when the fandom was really booming. Where the nostalgic styles were around and the 'cringey' lol ask blogs (i would've been doing one dgmw)
I would've been a big hit back then but now its just harder to be known. (not that its my main purpose i just wonder how far i would've gotten when this fandom was more alive)
Moral of story, I've always related to him, i mean the guy quite literally gave me a reason to keep going? He inspires my aesthetic, my career (story making, film and writing) honestly if it wasn't for me stumbling across him..tbh I'd probably be normal LMAO but i would've taken a different route with my art and writing if...At all? He kinda kept me a reason to do everything so.
As i got older it only seemed to get worse tbh. Hell i own like 4 hoodies help me, its literally. I have i have
I have like a 10 page doc on JUST headcanons and a 30k word long rewrite i am not okay. Hes in my mind
He's in my ears
Hes in my eyes
He is in my tears
You would literally have to pry him out of my cold dead blue fingers.
I could go on but my brain literally died mid sentence. Mighy edit later jusy remond me omg typing is hard now, look wjay u did.

Omg omg omg omg omg now that I finally found other sams proshippers IMMA RANT ABOUT HOW MUCH I LOVE SUN X ALL HIS FAMILY MEMBERS!!!!! Old moon x sun? God tier cause of the power dynamics, moon's possessiveness, how closw they were and toxic their dynamic is it makes me so feral and crazy!!! EARTH X SUN IS EEEEEE I've been shipping them ever since earth was announced!! They are the best brosis ship!! Lunar x Sun is fucking cuuuuuttttteeeee!!! I love their interactions and how hes basically sun's baby brother and I'm so happy I found the proship side cause this entire fandom is ruled by antis🥺
YESYESYES RANT RANT RANT!!!!!!
Sun and Old Moon make me CLIMB WALLSSS. istfg you could make a list of how many times those two hit on each other and were all up in eachothers faces!!! the tension they had (and still have tbh) is INSANE. Sun was Old Moon's entire world and he'd protect him at all costs, even if Sun's heart was collateral in the process and that's so fucking UAFAIFAIGA GRR RAH RAH BARK SNARL!!! that one episode where Sun reassured O.M that he wasn't a monster??? i can't say the things that i think they DID TOGETHER after that episode without having to mark this post as mature afskagahaa. and oh my god whenever Sun was on his 'villain arc' right before O.M died, you know they had angry makeout sessions. you know they did. literally impossible for them to keep their hands off eachother even when they're fighting.
SUN AND EARTH ARE SO FUCKING CUTE AGSKQGAJSV they LITERALLY had a canon meet-cute where Earth SAVED SUN FROM SPIRALING DURING THE WORST MOMENT OF HIS LIFE. in ANY other media that'd be the start of the best fucking romance you've EVER seen. and not to mention how often they hang out together??? and how much earth makes sure to reassure sun that he's a good brother????? dear god they so have mutual crushes/feelings and are too nervous to say anything. (or they're already dating and just bad at hiding it lol. whenever they trade daycare shifts they also trade Kisses <3)
REPEATEDLY SLAMMING A CREDIT CARD DOWN AGAINST A TABLE. SUN AND LUNAR ARE SO AJAFAH TOO. i imagine they started bonding a long time ago- back during the og lunar design days. they found solace in the fact that they were both """the dumb one""" and quickly became close over that. not to mention the flirting- i mean "sibling bickering" they do all the time that is so URGHHH /VPOS 🤌🤌🤌 i bet they started being romantic one day whenever they were just gaming together n then lunar offhandedly asked "what if we made out lol. ...for like practice ofc ahahahah." and then after sun spent 5 minutes recovering from that he was like ".....sure...?". cue them repeatedly finding excuses to keep making out everyday until they just Accepted they were brothers who kissed ;3c
and also you didn't mention him but hes Technically a part of the family so may i pitch: sun and solar are so good tooooo. there sm ANGST POTENTIAL over solar (at first lol) not knowing if he sees sun as his own person or just a shadow of his own sun, but then solar starts opening up to sun a bit more n' he catches feelings and he catches feelings hard. hypnotized by the thought of solar just losing control one day and kissing sun w/o asking, and hes about to start rapidly apologizing but then sun kisses him back. aaand now they're making out in the daycare. and the only reason they stop is because someone (earth prolly lol) politely asked them if they wanted a room digisgoaga
UNFORTUNATELY your last statement is right, this fandom is primarily run by antis, but ykw, im gonna do everything in my power to carve out a lil safe proship haven for us """freaks"""! we deserve to have a place where we can make them all kiss, dammit!!!

Leigh Bardugo is an anti Daenerys Targaryen?! Omg...I knew this woman was problematic in her thinking and worldview but so much? This woman is an anti Daenerys?! Many things suddenly become clear to me. The only thing I knew about her about GOT is that she found Jaime and Brienne's relationship problematic because of the age difference they have...
I've already answered similar ask here, and I still don't know. The furthest I got in search for a source is another fan remembering there should've been something on her now deleted tumblr.
The Braime thing sounds like a funny anecdote. I wonder what she'd think about my book OTP- SanSan. :D

Yeah I can't scroll through the Aemond tag without running into Aemond hate, and I've even found antis in the pro Aemond tag or in the Ewan tag. I had already blocked a lot of people because they found hilarious to body shame Ewan after episode 2 and 3, but apparently there’s more of these fuckers. Why can't just let us enjoy things? Go drool over daemon and daemyra in the appropriate tags.
I literally saw a pro daemon saying they can’t wait for the groomer to kill Aemond UNDER THE AEMOND TAG OMG THEY MAKE ME LOSE MY SANITY
THE HATE TOWARDS EWAN IS SO FORCED I HOPE WHOEVER HATED OR MOCKED HIM FOR HAVING THE BODY OF A GREEK GOD GET SHAT ON BY A BIRD—
Istfg I don’t CARE if you hate Aemond just keep your shit under anti tags and stop clogging our tags😭😭

Have you read "Hegemonic Mimicry: Korean Popular Culture of the Twenty-First Century"? And if you did, would you mind sharing your thoughts about it? Or maybe his (Kyung Hyun Kim's) earlier work? Or maybe just your thoughts about academic analysis of korean popular culture? Thank you and love your blog!
this has been sitting in my inbox since novermber 2022 omg. thank u for sending this! i found a sample pdf of the table of contents, preface, and intro, and a couple chapters and ended up thinking about it quite deeply, and write a lot about it.
it honestly really made me realize how inadequate and politically insulting journalism and academia is about kmedia. it's so new that there's no developed body of work so the things being published are shallow and lacking in their familiarity with korean people and history, especially korean people's relationship to antiblackness. my view is a very specific communist and anti-colonial political framework and not at all representative of how the average korean person would see it but these shallow analyses of the hallyu phenomenon is so insulting to me as a korean person.
like. this book is rly just a liberal korean-american pretending to engage with post-colonial and black theory but misunderstanding the texts he references. his claims are shallow and his evidence for them are superficial and subjective. he's simply pointing out the obvious and feeling like he's being edgy and original for it. he positions white and black as the "politically correct color palette" in western media/entertainment which is just insane. he lists important historical factors in south korea's relationship to antiblackness but doesn't analyze them at all. like he mentioned that the U.S. was still segregated and that the U.S. military was segregated and then was desegregated during the korean war and the formation of the republic of korea. and it blew my mind because things make more sense now but he just didn't analyze that at all. the segregated military dynamics in the formation of racial identity in south korean history are something i barely thought about. all he says is that korean people were "awkwardly caught between" white and black people and "victims caught between two races" which is absolutely insane. insanely antiblack and inaccurate like who paid this man to not think. just dig a little bit deeper please.
the main thesis is to claim that the global rise of kpop and kmedia are an example of his term "hegemonic mimicry" which i think is already odd. in the chapter titles he directly references bhabha's "of mimicry and man" but doesn't seem to follow the same postcolonial framework in which mimicry is inherently hegemonic because it is a colonial process. i also don't think he is using the word hegemonic correctly in general, he says that korean entertainers who have large followings outside of south korea "become hegemonic themselves" which is a very?? incorrect usage of that word? and his examples in the preface to substantiate this claim seem shallow to me. his central concepts are what he calls "renegotiating originality and mimicry" but his framework is a very shallow western vs korean one that most academics and journalists use when talking about kpop. he claims that kpop is commercially successful right now because it is both racialized and nonracialized because of "opaque racialization" of korean people and that's just not a correct framing of the issue.
there is no mention of the fact that antiblackness is the organizing principle of the modern world, popular/global music is black music that is being exploited and replicated by white industry, and that the violent presence of U.S. military is central to the creation of post-feudal korean genres and industry. he situates korean racial/cultural identity as awkwardly between white and black racial identities instead of identifying south korea's actual relationship to white supremacy and antiblackness. he's just obviously a korean-american academic that uses personal experience in the place of a genuinely korean political framework.
south korea is a U.S. neocolony and the U.S. is built on antiblackness therefore the infrastructure of the rok is built on antiblackness. the money that flows through south korea's veins is U.S. money and therefore the foundation of the modern south korean state is antiblackness. the r.o.k. is a hypermiltiarized hypercapitalist neocolony of the U.S., and south korean people are rewarded for antiblackness (enacting antiblack violence, building culturally specific antiblack ideological infrastructure into its identity, taking blame for antiblackness in the U.S.'s place in global discourse) with money, with life itself.
i don't rly take most academia or journalism about kpop, kmedia, and hallyu seriously because people don't seem to have an adequate political framework to be able to understand how race works in south korea. they're culture critics grouping observations together and coming to conclusions that range from insultingly wrong to almost there but not quite. i've seen more correct analyses of racial dynamics in korea from black ppl who r casual fans of korean media than i've seen published.

Did you hear about the Pilar barbie situation on TikTok where it was a white women lying about being Romani and created a whole make-up business off the lie 😭
GIRL omg 💀💀 gossiping about Pilar is one of my favourite activities...
She has a lot of lore so I'm going to walk you through all I can remember
For the people who don't know her, Pilar was an American tiktoker who made videos about Romani issues (this is the only remaining picture of her I found on tiktok)
Tumblr media
From what I remember, she was already there in 2020 during COVID times when I became active on Romani internet. I don't even remember when she got really popular, it must have happened gradually or something but she was one of the biggest Romani 'internet activists' alongside Florian and Brooke (in the early days).
Sometimes she also dressed more 'traditional'
Tumblr media
which... really just looks like she was putting on a costume. anyway I don't have more recent pictures from her tiktoks as she suspended her account but the way she wore a headscarf and golden jewellery to try and emulate being Romani was already pretty messed up and unnecessary, as a lot of Romani women dont wear either of these things in the first place
I don't remember what group she was originally claiming to be from, but that's the point, she kept changing it. Except that she did so over a very slow period of time and by making only vague references about her heritage so it was hard to catch on. Anyway, over the past 4 years I have heard her say she was:
Russian Romani
Polish Romani
Crimean Romani
Gitana/Spanish Romani
Sinti
Manush, to be even more specific
Mixed Eastern European Romani + Manush
And that is all I specifically remember but I wouldn't be surprised if she also had a kalderash or lovari arc at some point 💀 anyway, after a while I started noticing things weren't adding up and her heritage was very vague and that was weird. Not to be mean, but she is also American, and I always feel way, way more cautious when it comes to American Roma than European Roma, Romani racefakers are almost always American because no European in their right mind would think it's cool to pretend to be romani 😭😭
Anyway, what really made it for me was the stuff she used to say on tiktok. Some of it was just blatantly not true. I almost lost my mind during her Sinti arc because she said stuff like "Sara e Kali isn't a big religious figure for Sinti people", "Sara e Kali isn't a catholic romani figure", and then she also pretended to have ties to some famous Sinti people when i know for a fact that is not possible... But I can't say more about that because that would be too doxx-y... She also said some more bs about Sinti people and I corrected her in the comments and she tried to follow me and it was so cringe
Then I also knew she was toxic because she would harass Romani women on tiktok and I remember at least one instance when she insulted a European Romani woman by saying, "you claim to be Romani but you dress like a hoe, you're just a gadji because Romani women respect ourselves by covering up"....
Two other things that didn't sit right with me was her clntent. She would talk a lot about anti Roma racism in Europe, which was great, she would talk about news no one else talked about. But she had a very guilt-trippy and angry way to talk about it that made it look like she was overdoing it and mocking the way antiracist activists talk, just to get engagement. It didn't feel genuine. And also, she would put ads for her make up brand and Cosplays of her as Wanda Maximoff between tiktoks about pogroms and police brutality. It all looked like a scam and like she was doing some traumaporn just for people to buy her stuff
And she also bullied Brooke so hard that she never came back on Tiktok, even though she (Brooke) had been the OG Romani tiktoker, had even been featured in Romea (a Romani newspaper), and was genuinely half Romani. And why? Because she is white passing? That's stupid, Pilar was allegedly white passing herself
(the way so many Romani tiktokers turned their back against Brooke was super disgusting btw, I don't know her personally but from what I've heard she is a very nice person)
Anyway, by 2022 I knew for sure Pilar was lying. That year I got in touch with other Romani girls and women online and we discussed it and they also all knew that Pilat was lying. Her being a racefaker was pretty much an open secret, at least among (chronically) online Romani people. Except that none of us could call her out, because she was very popular and extremely toxic. I can't even tell you how toxic she was. She had a circle made up of other American Romani women and they bullied tons of Romani people online, and guess what these romani people had in common!
Most of them were women
Most of them had a complicated family history
A lot of them were white passing (really tho, being white passing seems to be a problem ONLY when you are a woman. white passing Romani men never receive any hate)
A lot of them were LGB
And these American Roma bullied them, made a lot of them suicidal (seriously, I've heard several accounts of Pilar's bullying victims becoming suicidal), because they allegedly weren't 'romani enough'.
So, obviously, neither me nor any of my friend could call her out because we weren't nowhere as popular and we were all LGB romnia.
But then came FLORIAN. Literally the only person who could put a stop to her shenanigans. Ngl, I think only Florian, a straight, American Romani man with a big platform could have stopped her. And I am so glad he did, because she really made being Romani on the internet very stressful. I was so scared she would come to Tumblr one day lmao. Anyway, I have a lot of bones to pick with Florian but that was his biggest W. Here is his tiktok btw:
