Unfortunately, as Erza studied her new neighbor, leaning against the counter in his kitchen with a pained grimace on his reddened face, she realized that it was indeed happening. She stood there, gawking at the poor man, before she finally set her half-finished slice of strawberry cake down and sidled up to him.

Touching his sleeve, she asked, “Are you all right?” while trying to keep the panic out of her voice.

Because, despite her question, she already knew the answer.

Her new neighbor, Jellal Fernandez, was most certainly not all right.

His golden eyes were hazy as he stared at her, his skin flushed and beaded with perspiration. “I’ll be fine,” he managed to say. “Just give me a little while.” A shaky hand lifted above him towards the cabinet over his head and he fumbled to open the door.

Erza opened it for him, finding a bunch of clear glasses. “Water?” she guessed.

Jellal nodded, his scrunched face wrinkling the intricate tattoo that covered his right eye. “Please.”

My favorite part of Adventure Time is just how well it captures the passage of time on a large scale. Finn and Jake go on crazy adventures and are well loved and celebrated in their time. They’re fucking celebrities in Ooo! But in episodes set hundreds of years in the future, no one remembers their names. Even immortal characters like PB or BMO eventually forget them. These characters we followed and grew to love are reduced to legends and I think that’s beautiful
