On Loyalty

Here is the thing about being accused of being a stan of William and Catherine. The accusation is absolutely true in my case. The truth is that have never been a fan of them.

Fan culture is transient. Fan culture is superficial. Fan culture will sell it’s mother down the river just for social media clout. I am not interested in being part of a mob that can be led by its nose based on bad takes. To me, there is nothing superior about fan culture.

There is a reason why I have devoted endless hours of my life to uplift William, Catherine and their children. The reasons have nothing to do with pretty frocks or shiny baubles.

My reasons have to do with their public personas being an extension of my personal value system. At the end of the day, when it comes to people who I choose to give my energy to, I am loyal to my core. You will never hear me publicly condemn someone I respect just to make myself look better, be it family or friends. The Waleses are neither family or friends to me, but they do mean something to me.

After four decades of lived experience, I have learned that having people in your life who will stand by you through thick and thin is rare.

Loyalty isn't for the faint of heart. Therefore to me, there is nothing sexier than Loyalty.

If all this makes me a stan, then my dears I will wear that label proudly.

i never understood ppl claiming percy has never suffered the consequences of his loyalty. you're talking about percy "i know the prophecy said my friend would betray me but these are my friends they wouldn't betray me" jackson, who walked into a remote part of the forest with luke and almost died in book one. you're talking about percy "kronos told me point-blank there was a traitor but i can't imagine any of these ppl betraying me" jackson, who decided to stop looking for the traitor and moved on. you're talking about percy "nico is acting suspicious and very clearly hiding something from me but he's my friend and i trust him" jackson, who walked into nico's very obvious set up and almost got himself held hostage during the titan war. percy is so loyal that he cannot fathom betrayal until it's happening, and it has nearly killed him multiple times.

The scenes of Luke training Percy were so expertly written. He wasn’t just training Percy, he was actively recruiting Percy. He fuels Percy’s anger and mistrust of the gods. He didn’t even need to alter how Percy saw the gods because he could already see the resentment Percy had of his dad, mirroring his own. He was absolutely sure he had Percy on his side but he didn’t account for one thing, Percy’s fatal flaw. Percy’s loyalty to his family and friends supersedes all else. Luke can’t betray Annabeth, almost kill him, Grover and Annabeth, put his mother in a dangerous position, and then expect him to be on his side. That is where he fails.

OBSESSED with the newest episode of percy jackson. percy knew he was going to die but did NOT want to let annabeth die on his watch. this man was DYING FROM VENOM but went to fight the chimera because that’s what he does and his fatal flaw is DEFINITELY loyalty. Your "non-confrontational" choices not to communicate hurt the people you don't confront btw. You're not a martyr for keeping everything inside and then running away when other people don't know what's going on with you. You just decided avoiding rejection and sparing your own feelings was easier than being honest and giving them the agency to respond and make their own decisions. You chose to hurt them so they didn't hurt you. You think your feelings are realer and more important than their own care and love for you. You were always just waiting for a sign to run.

"If they cared about me they would have–" did you tell them that? Did you let them know how you feel? How much importance you place on those requirements they don't know they have to meet? This secret criteria and secret signs for your secret feelings? Or are you making them play a game they don't know even exists?

Your choice not to communicate isn't cute. You didn't run because they didn't feel the same for you. You ran so you wouldn't have to risk rejection. You chose to prioritise your own self-protection over their trust in and love for you. At least own that.
