He will update your weapons more often than the other mercs, but that also means you guys sometimes have little adventures trying to fix your weapons or hunting down the occasional bread monster herd

Y'all have fun though, and your weapon gets updates, so win win?

He reads stories to you and Pyro too, mostly fiction ones though like the Grimm Brothers' writing.

Speaking of Pyro, you two are basically siblings now, good luck. Engineer has a little nook for you two to hang out in while he works into the nights. If you and Pyro fall asleep there, he'll walk you back to your room, maybe read you a silly bedtime story if Pyro's still with you two, and wish you a good night

He’s a questionable choice for a father figure, but he's silly <3

You’d probably be in the infirmary or calling him a lot if he starts feeling protective of you, but he thinks it’s sweet that you always get your injuries taken care of in this line of work. Like if you get a paper cut, you make sure to slap a bandaid on it, y’all know what i mean?

I don’t know how to explain in a way that doesn’t sound weird, but Medic is weird so eh?

During battles, when he knows the Heavy is safe, he’ll run off to top off your health, even if you’re only down 5 HP, and he saves his Ubercharges for you and Heavy <3

But since you’re getting injured a lot, Medic decides to teach you some first aid past the basics

If you’re interested, he’d teach you more advanced biology and even let you assist in surgeries! You guys bond over spinning Scout’s organs around, and Scout is not happy about getting his lungs switched around with his kidneys

All this time in his medbay got his doves quite used to you, so they now have favorites, you and Heavy. Although, now sometimes Archimedes tries to sneak away from their dad to follow you

Heavy always brings Archimedes back to Medic after you give them treats

And Spy doesn’t have the best track record with children, Scout and the kid from the Smissmas comic, however Spy does still care

Idia nervously paces his room while biting on the nail of his thumb. He isn’t sure why he even went through with asking you to spend New Year’s Eve with him. Well, actually he knows why, and that reason is happily pinning up decorations around his room.

Ortho had needled Idia into asking you to join in on a very small celebration. Literally so small it’s only the two of them; and now you. How could he say no to his cute little brother? And, if Idia is honest with himself, he wants to spend more time with you.

You’re what he would consider an extrovert. And oh does he hate socializing with extroverts! Yet, you’re not as draining as the other extroverts at NRC. You seem to understand when to step back and give him space. You’re patient with him and don’t mind when he would rather stay in his room while you talk to his tablet. You’ll listen to his tirades on the latest anime, game, or his favorite idol group.

How could he not develop a major crush on you?

Unfortunately for him, you’re also pretty popular. Somehow you’ve amassed a gaggle of friends. Some are just normies, like the two knuckleheads from Heartslabyul. But when he found out you managed to snag the ultra rare UR Malleus Draconia, he nearly fainted. Of course you of all people would befriend one of the most powerful beings in Twisted Wonderland!

With all these better people around you, Idia can’t help but think you’re only friends with him out of pity. He can’t offer you much beyond new gadgets or superior wifi. Hell, he can’t even go outside like everyone else. That usually isn’t an issue for him, but ever since you arrived, he kinda wants to do normie things with you. Not like you’d ever want to do anything with him.

“Big brother, stop overthinking,” Ortho orders, his voice breaking Idia out of his mental anguish.

Realizing he’s gnawed off the nail on his thumb, he stuffs his hands in his sweatshirt. “What if they don’t come? What if they’ve been invited to a party and decided they'd rather go. Someone like that is bound to be invited to multiple events and w-”

There’s three rapid knocks that interrupt his spiraling. “Idia? Ortho?”

“(Y/N), is here!” Ortho eagerly opens the door. “You made it!”

You’re grinning ear from ear. “Of course! I wouldn’t want to miss starting the new year with the opening of the newest MMO game server.”

Idia inwardly cringes as he remembers the reason he gave for throwing the impromptu New Year’s Eve celebration. He had hastily told you to arrive ten minutes before midnight if you wanted to get all the new login bonuses. Could he be any more lame?

Ortho hands you a silver party hat, which you gladly put on. Despite how goofy most people would look, you manage to pull it off. Now that all three of you are wearing party hats, you settle on the floor. From your backpack, you pull out a handful of snacks.

Thankfully Ortho had convinced Idia to clean up a bit. Most of the things were thrown in his closet or stuffed in the boxes that were now neatly stacked. His computer screens had been rearranged to accommodate the extra person.

“D-do you want a pillow?” He holds a cushion out.

Leaning against the frame of his bed, you accept the offered cushion. “I bought a few things. I wasn’t sure what would be fitting for a New Year’s Eve party, but I made sure to grab your favorites!”

As Idia sinks down near you, he hands a controller over. “T-thanks…” The intro screen to the new game lights up the room.

You hum along to the music as you both wait for the server to open. “So, what class do you plan to go for?”

A safe topic to discuss, Idia lets out a sigh. “Probably a mage reaper. Distant combat but also close combat just in case to cover your bases. Being able to heal yourself was life changing in the previous games. Plus, you can iframe attacks using reaper specials.”

“Hmm, good choice. I might go for paladin gunner. Plenty of defense while fighting midrange sounds sweet.” You happily munch on some cookies. “Ortho, are you joining us?”

Idia realizes his brother had been hovering the entire time. The younger Shroud smiles. “Actually, I need to make a quick stop at Sam’s. I forgot to prepare the necessary refreshments.”

Eyes widening, Idia can only manage to sputter out a few crumbs before Ortho leaves. The door closes with an ominous click. Suddenly, he feels like he’s too close to you. Every time you’ve hung out with him, Ortho has been there. Or you’re in a public place. Idia has never been alone with you.

Until now.

Eyes darting around the room, he wonders if he can spontaneously combust. It would be better than facing his very real feelings for you. Feelings that will definitely not be reciprocated. From the corner of his vision, he can see that you’re unfazed. You’re busy fiddling with the control settings. His tongue is stuck to the roof of his mouth.

The silence seems to drag on forever as Idia can’t seem to unfreeze himself. You set down the controller, before turning to him. “You can use your tablet if you want.”

He blinks slowly. You turn back to the screen. “Or if you want, I can go back to my dorm, and we can do this through chat.”

Ah, you’re trying to make him feel more comfortable. Always the accommodating one. You never seem bothered by it either. Most people would get annoyed or exasperated over his reactions. But you understand.

Slowly relaxing, Idia picks up his own controller. “N-no. I’m okay.”

Focusing on the screen, there’s a minute before midnight. “Hey, Idia?”

“Yeah?”

There’s a pause before you speak again. “Would you mind if I gave you a kiss for the new year?”

He swears he hears something crack. He’s suddenly very aware of you once more. “I-I…k-kiss? M-me?”

“There’s a tradition to ring in the new year by kissing someone. I just thought it might be something nice to do with you,” you explain, keeping your tone even and calm. “It’s okay if you’re not comfortable with that.”

Thirty seconds.

He can’t believe his ears. You want to kiss him? Of all people? Really???

Twenty-five.

Swallowing nervously, Idia decides to gather all his courage. This is a once and a lifetime special event. Who knows when he’ll ever get the chance. “Y-yes, I’d like that!” he manages to squeak out.

Eighteen.

He keeps his gaze glued to the screen, afraid he might pass out if he even looks at you. He can hear you shuffling. From the corner of his vision, he can make out your hand. You shift closer to him without a word.

Seven.

Just breathe. Just breathe. Just breathe!

One.

“Happy New Year, Idia. I like you alot,” you whisper in his ear. He instinctively squeezes his eyes shut at the last second. 

You press a gentle, warm kiss to his cheek; you linger before moving away. Eyes popping open as the game music opens, he turns to you. The tips of his hair have turned a shade of light pink. His mouth opens and closes like a fish as you smile back at him. Your eyes glimmer brightly with such emotion, it’s almost too much for his poor heart.

What a way to start the year!

As for worst and best hair in twst, I will write my thoughts below. I’ll go by dorm, so there is no particular order or ranking. Truthfully, I just wrote my thoughts and simped a lot. ^^;;;

Riddle - I love his hair!!! It’s very cute and red!!! <3 the little heart-shaped ahoge........ he’s the perfect man. The only man to ever exist. orz

Ace - a very fun hairstyle!!! It just looks so,,,, poofy???? Like if I pat his head, his hair will spring right back up because it’s so fluffy??? >_< it’s difficult to describe, but I like his hair a lot. The style suits Mr. Ace wonderfully!!!

Deuce - the color is so pretty!!! Deep navy blue... aaaa so beautiful!!! I don’t have many thoughts regarding his hairstyle, but I do think it fits a lot! It’s a clean, simple style that reflects how Deuce is trying so hard to keep a clean record and become a respectable honors student!! :D

Trey - he’s lucky he’s so good-looking and husband material and that I’m down astronomically bad for him, otherwise I would not be so prone to hyping up his hairstyle. It feels so plain, but then that’s the image Trey has at first glance and I think that's so perfect because you’ll never suspect he is actually quite mischievous!

Cater - I LOVE HIM AND HIS HAIRSTYLE OOOOOOO OTL it’s so fun!!!! The color is also very vibrant!!! But also I like picturing his hair down! All of the artwork I have seen of it... omg he looks so pretty aaaaaa!!! T_T

Leona - HE HAS THE MOST GORGEOUS HAIR AAAAAAAA there’s something about it that’s just,,,,, omg!!!!! Breathtaking. He’s beautiful. So stunning and show-stopping... orz I want to frame him in a picture and always admire him like the artwork he is.

Jack - at first I wasn’t very partial to his hairstyle, but it’s actually very pretty and pleasant!! I like the color (I am not immune to anime men with white/grey hair hehe) and I also like how nicely his ears are situated within his hair. :D it just works so well!!!

Ruggie - rugs..... aaaa he has a cute, messy hairstyle. <3 the sandy blond and the brown is too pretty!!! I could look at him forever hehe. Also his ears!!!! They’re just so adorable. I want to pat him on the head and give him a scratch behind the ears, but I think he would definitely bite me or swat my hands away. ;;;

Azul - ew. terrible tako. worst hair. lame. boo. tomato tomato. >:( (I need him. His hair is so pretty and fluffy and soft and angelic and he is a masterpiece and he has the best hair to run your fingers through while you're making out and the shaved undercut is really cool and I need him and he is so pretty and wow omg he is magnificent and beautiful and best hair.)

Jade & Floyd - I think they might break my ribs if I told them that in the beginning not only did I think they were horrendously unattractive, boring, and unflattering to look at, but I also didn’t like their hairstyle. LOL and now look at where I am.... ^^;;; I have since corrected my ways and now I find their hairstyles very appealing, especially the single dyed strand. It ended up growing on me. I like how even their hairstyles differentiate them and Jade’s explanation of how his hair strand forms a J so it’s easier to tell him and Floyd apart if you look closely at that detail… it’s actually quite cute. :D

Kalim - YES YES YES I LIKE HIS HAIR A LOT!!!!! Another man with white/grey hair who I adore. Every turban-like headband he wears for each of his outfits goes very well with his hairstyle. I just really enjoy it!!! It’s another one that’s hard to describe, but his hairstyle looks so nice and cute. <3

Jamil - his hair…. Where do I even begin? Omg it’s so so sosososososo pretty!!!! OTL the length and braids throughout and even the little metal hair ties(?)/accessories he wears in his hair!!!!! He is stunning. He is the moment. He is everything you could ever want. I’ve always loved Jamil’s hair, especially how long and pretty it looks!!! The color itself is very flattering as well.

Vil - of course I also love Vil’s hairstyle, but this is to be expected considering Vil serves in every outfit and style that ever graces his form!!! He’s so pretty. I understand why Rook hypes him up so much. The soft lavender dye goes so well with the blond!! He is indeed the fairest of them all in my eyes. He’s just so stunning… orz Vil, I am your number one fan and supporter.

Epel - aaaa eppy!!!! For a long while I had his exact hairstyle (and didn’t realize it until I was looking at card art for Epel and was left wondering why his hair looks so familiar), so naturally I love the style!!! His hair looks so soft and pretty, and the purple color is so nice to look at!!!

Idia - OMG HIS HAIR IS SO COOL (or maybe a better word is hot because it's fire)!!!!!!! It's an immaculate hair design... something about fire hair is so amazing, and it's blue and very long!!!! Seeing his hair in a braid in his applepom card continues to feed me. He's so cute. <3

Ortho - like Idia, Ortho's hair is also very cool because it's also fire!!! I find Ortho's entire design really interesting as well. Naturally, there's an explanation for why he is a robot (which is heartbreaking), but I still think it's a very neat character design. And his hair is so fun and bright!!! :D

Malleus - elegant... ethereal... he is beautiful... orz stunning. I bow before you and your beautiful hair, Mr. Horns.

Lilia - I have to appreciate Lilia and his beautiful hairstyle (even if the cut is,,,, certainly something). As someone who also loves to dye their hair neon pink, I must recognize his excellent hair. I also love the little hair strands that curl up to look like horns hehe!!

Silver - I am not immune to anime men with white/grey hair. Silver's hair looks so soft and gentle just like him. He's just so handsome and sweet. T_T like Kalim, Silver could do no wrong. The two of them are the biggest sweethearts in NRC.

Sebek - I genuinely do not know how to feel about his hair, but I think it's styled so cool. >:) he looks sharp. That's the only way I can describe my feelings. I feel as if I will touch his hair and it might cut me. >_< or Sebek himself will cut me before I dare lay a hand upon his head...

Che'nya - AAAA HIS HAIR!!!! Very cool!!!! He looks so scrunkly. No thoughts in his head except mischief. He is so :3c omg <3

Neige - the hairstyle makes him look so kind and gentle!!! I like the color as well. He could do no wrong. orz

Rollo - Rollo, I love you and I could defend you, but not when you're going out in public with that atrocious choir boy cut. But because his hair is white, he becomes even more appealing to me. Thus, I may be inclined to accept his hair. My friends may clown on me for liking him when he has that hairstyle, but he's cute to me. >:( he's lovely to me. He's boyfriend to me. >:(

But when during his character arc (lesson 10-11 ish?) he started to empathize with your situation and that it isn’t your fault

you’re sneezing all over the place. Every goddamn time he came from a cat cafe.

Walking home from RAD together, he comes across a BOX OF KITTENS.

“Are those kittens? In a box? Who’d leave such precious creatures behind? And in such a small and worn out box too.”

He goes up to the box and literally scoops them all up to carry them all

While he was playing with all those kitties u were just standing there like ‘bitch i cant play with the cats with you are fkin fr rn’

Satan notices this and apologizes then tries to come close to hug you

The key word was tried, your eyes started watering and you started to sneeze and try to sneeze (that struggle to sneeze but you cant do it last minute, ugh my eyes start to bring out a pool worth of tears

There was one time too Satan made his trained cats scratch Lucifer and his study, you were surprised when you enter Lucifer’s study to pass your tasks to be welcomed by that fuzzy, itchy feeling in your nose and your eyes felt like swelling

Lucifer was deep cleaning his study because he knew you had tasks due that day😭

“My apologies MC, it seems that Satan had brought cats in here earlier today to scratch me. Just leave the papers there.”

Poor guy and you

one of the hardest parts of dating him, he’d come home after playing or tending cats in the streets. And you? Pass the tissues you dont even feel safe from sneezing in his room.

He genuinely tries to hold back from even coming close to a cat now, since he would be probably taking u out on a date, want to cuddle, or anything when it came to bonding with you really. But cats. Cats!

Its the only thing keeping you both apartt~

Honestly at some point he’d get upset and conflicted then just gets a book and tries to find a spell for u allergies to go bye bye

In weekdays, you guys hang out as muuuuch as possible and you secretly hope from within that you both dont pass by a cat so he does not get you sneezin all over the place again

He once passed u a sticky note in class, you opened it and saw cute doodles of cats, just to play with him you draw yourself in a chibi version, sneezing and suffering from allergies

Once you gave the sticky note back to him, he smiled abit at your drawing and realized what it meant

He glares at you, and pulls you by your chair and side hugs you

“Would you look at that MC, no sneezing or such?”

He is smug and proud

“Haha then after recess you go tend to that box of kittens you found at the west tower of the office”

“…” “…okay..” “wait mc—“

I thought the Two Slow Dancers comic would be a fun opportunity to break down my process a lil bit cause this was a lot of undoing and redoing and adding so for any ppl curious it will be under the cut!!

So to start off I actually only thumbnailed what is now page five and six, the original image in my mind was them reaching out to each other in different seasons clothing, I considered just making an animated version of that but then I connected it to the two slow dancers scene I had imagined in my head a month or so back and wanted to make it part of a small narrative:

(I actually did page six first - u can tell by the way my writing is nearly incomprehensible that this idea came to me like a vision in the night)

But then looking at that i said - well surely that doesn’t tell the story enough. I need more. And then I played two slow dancers on repeat for probably an hour while I thumbnailed a surrounding narrative for those two pages and ended up with this mess:

And from there I actually started working on the lineart two pages at a time - I like working on freakishly large two page spreads because to me it helps the flow feel more cohesive, I don’t look at them as isolated pages until I get to the shading part of the process.

But once I sent it to some ppl for feedback and reread it myself a million times I felt like the story still wasn’t reading the way I wanted it to - two out of six pages were “flashbacks/memories” pages and that ratio didn’t really allow for the other four pages to read as a cohesive story in my opinion so I kept trying to workshop two more pages for the front and I went through a few iterations:

I thought at first I would show the outside of the garrison, give the audience more of a setting, and then show the flyer so we know Keith is getting ready for this celebration. But it was too literal for me (even though what I ended up doing was still pretty literal lmao). So then I started with the phone/text messages as a story telling device:

Also this is an example of how I almost always draw the comic panels before I decide what goes in them haha, unless I’m really sure what images I plan on focusing in on the panels almost always end up informing what goes inside if that makes sense. But I finally ended up here when I decided “that’s good enough”

I even did most of the lineart for this composition before I decided the imagery of the jacket was just too repetitive, like we don’t need THREE PAGES of keith putting on a jacket.

So i kind of just moved the left page over to the right, and left the right page blank for most of the rest of the comic process. I finished most of the lineart on the rest of it before I finally circled back and decided to go with a tweak of what I originally thought was a lame idea (I had this image in my head of the lions silhouette against the glow of the Earth for the first page, but with the lyrics “the ground has been slowly pulling us back down” I thought it was just too cheesy, especially because that’s not what the lyrics mean either in the song or in the context of this comic and I didn’t want them to be perceived as so literal)

So this is the thumbnail I landed on for that which eventually turned into the actual final page.

Once I had all of the thumbnailing done the rest was pretty fun work! Just lots of going back in and detailing out the scribbles I had first put down. Now in terms of color, I actually have a secret. Most times I don’t color much at all? It depends on the piece but for most of my comics what I do is this -

I flat greyscale color everything and then use a color curve adjuster inside of procreate to pick a color pallet:

color adjusters are ur friend for picking color pallets i'm TELLING YOU!! I used to have a lot of trouble with cohesive color comps but it's a lot easier for me even without using this method now. Anyway I usually leave it here, in my other comics I don't have any shading or background elements outside of the panels but I figured since I was working so much on this comic anyway, I might as well light it a bit. So I basically just scribbled over the whole composition with a purple marker set on a multiply layer and then erased out the places I wanted light to hit, and then added a soft light layer with colored lights to give it more of a party look:

The only hang up I had during the coloring process of all this was how to color the "memory" pages. I originally just wanted them to be more pastel/blue, I thought that would make them look distinct enough. So I painted/shaded this whole page before looking at it within the rest of the composition and deciding it didn't read well at all and ended up sliding the saturation down to zero and calling it a day:

But I'm happy with that decision because it allowed for the "coming into color" moment with the other memory page and I think it connects better to the rest of the comic visually that way. And that was the whole process! There were tons of other little adjustments I made along the way and other composition things I tried out but I do tend to erase instead of iterate in layers so this is the process I have to show you! would genuinely love to see your process for sketching out your comics!! ive wanted to make my own but i have never really figured out the process and end up overwhelmed- and you're one of the folks who makes stuff in a style that I kinda draw close to, and u do ur comics with pencil and paper- so if you wouldn't mind in the future, it'd be really cool to see how you actually get everything planned :)

SO FIRSTLY, I'd like to clarify I am in no way a professional or even close to one, I never even looked up how to do comics, I just kinda do them and use what I've read from DC comics and Pinterest tips.

But! Personally, I find that making comics is fun and that's what I strive on. I won't lie when I say my comics are pretty bland, the surroundings are empty and lame but I think the character's expressions and body language make up for it, and especially the script. So altogether in this post, I'll be breaking down how my comics are made!

1 - Scripting

In both dialogue and character detail/placing!

I use a notes app for when I get ideas!

* I usually don't do specific dialogue, only stating the idea and then coming up with dialogue in my head, but there are some exceptions where I do write down pre-thought-out dialogues you can see in the examples I put below!

With the idea / dialogue in tow, we can go to character detail / placing. I don't know the actual word for it but basically how the character acts in a specific scene / dialogue!

Character expression is especially important when it comes to any type of art, be it comics or animation as it can tell a story with little to no dialogue!

From here you can clearly tell their expressions well! Be sure to exaggerate!

2 - Limit planning

With Tumblr's 10 images limit, as well as Instagram if you post there, it's important to note that limit and know when to end the comic with a good panel where it doesn't feel like it's supposed to continue UNLESS you're making two parts!

I can't tell you how many times I've ruined my sketchbook papers trying to get a perfect script but I've been doing it long enough that my brain has adapted to the limit and every comic I've done since adapting had been a perfect ≤10.

But even if you decide to go with two (or maybe even more) parts, you should make sure it ends well still! Like a book! Those spaces between paragraphs and chapters and such!

3 - Panel placement

This isn't a necessity, but my personal way of drawing each panel is having it scattered around randomly around my sketchbook. I don't use strips or anything like that as it restricts me because using strips on paper is a whole lot harder than on digital. Because I have such a wide area to draw, I'm less restricted from drawing any excess things I want to add in case my dialogue doesn't fit the panel or so!

4 - Draw

Now to put it all together and make the comic! I usually already have my vision in mind so I can just go draw it without a light sketch layer, but I do recommend it!

What that is is essentially a sketch but drawn like.. your pencil is hovered above the page? Like you don't press down on it or something like that. Basically a guideline! So do that if you need it, and when you're satisfied with how it looks, you can draw it! And make sure it's clear!

After that, it's just picture and post! (Make sure you crop it right tho!)

4.5 - BONUS / TIPS

When I started posting Belos drawings, I never expected it to get any attention or even end up as a whole AU 😭 I just drew him in a babygirl hoodie and people ate that shit up so now it's an AU 💀 and because of that you need to prepare personalized tags!

Tags like pitmdau or sharing caleb au ! Very very useful for navigation

More important than tags, make sure you have a Masterpost!

I'm aware mine are unfinished and very messy and I'm trying to work on that right now but it's very difficult but people really need it so when making Masterposts, YOU HAVE KEEP UP WITH IT. I slacked of for ONE POST and now it's a mess.

Also another important note you can only put 100 links in one post so you have to make more Masterposts to navigate through the comics 😭

5 - Have fun!

When getting into comic making, I think really the most important thing to keep in mind is your enjoyment in making said comics. Sometimes some things can burn you out very quickly so when you're getting into things like this, especially when you're not getting paid, you gotta make sure you have fun doing it. It doesn't matter if it doesn't get a lot of traction or not, it only matters that you are enjoying making and posting them!

I've experienced MULTIPLE burn outs from making too many comics for my TOH AUs that at some point I just completely died and lacked motivation. But what drives me into making them are other people's enjoyment! Their enjoyment gives me enjoyment which gives me motivation to make more. Someday I'll know the AUs I've created will inevitably be over, at some point, but right now I'm just having fun with the small community I've built!

So make comics, and have fun!
