Lena has trouble sleeping. Kara Helps.
Can be read as a follow-up to day 6 (leaves) and day 7 (night) or by itself

Lena doesn't know how long she's been laying there, but it's long enough that she could tell you all the stars and all the constellations carefully reconstructed in the glow-in-dark stars on the ceiling of Kara's childhood bedroom.
It's been a long time since she tried to fall asleep without the sounds of a city nearby. And she knows it feels strange to think how there could be any kind of peace in all that restlessness, but somewhere in the fractured hum of streetlights and late night traffic, there is a comfort in the routine of such persistent existence, of allowing herself to fade into the background of it all night after night. But here, there is nothing to contend with but all the thoughts in her own head.
She turns over onto her side and looks at Kara, the outline of her face and the curves of her body. Matches them with memories of what they had felt like under her hands and against her lips
But then there's a rustle of sheets, and a warm body presses closer to hers, an arm wrapping around her waist.
"Hey," Kara whispers, "you okay?"
Lena nods even though it's dark.
"Just trying to fall asleep."
"Sorry, I know it's not always easy sleeping somewhere new," Kara says sympathetically.
"It's just- it's different."
Kara's arm slips a little further around her.
Lena takes a deep breath, fighting against the tightness in her chest. "It's too quiet, I think."
"I have an idea," Kara says, gently rubbing her thumb back and forth over Lena's hip.
"Okay." Lena nods again.
"Here" Kara leans forward onto her elbow and kisses her cheek quickly before turning onto her back and lifting up the covers.
And she must admit, she's a little confused at first, but then Kara slides her arm under her head and offers up a smile. "Well, come on up, I'm comfy, I promise."
So she does, leaning further into Kara's side with a sigh as she tries to let herself relax into the steady rhythm of her breathing. She shifts a couple of times, but it's still not quite enough. Kara's arm moves from underneath her head, asking permission with a gentle touch along her side. And in the next breath, she finds herself pulled on top of Kara's chest with a soft "there we go."
She settles into Kara's arms, and she starts humming, a soft and lilting melody that she doesn't quite recognize, but she knows she's caught pieces of before; it feels familiar in a way that parts of Kara always seem to become. And soon, the notes and the rhythm of her heartbeat together fill the too quiet room.
"Better?" Kara asks after a few minutes, fingers sweeping through Lena's hair and down the nape of her neck slowly.
"Mhmm," she hums. "Thank you."
"Of course." Kara kisses her forehead and holds her close. "Told you I was comfy."
"Very." Lena allows herself to sink further into Kara's embrace, feeling her eyes getting heavy even as her body feels lighter. And as she wraps her arms all the way around Kara's neck, something else about laying with Kara like this suddenly feels familiar too.
"Are we floating?" she whispers.
Kara's chuckle vibrates through her chest, and she presses a kiss to her temple "maybe just a little."
And Lena's brain needs a second to process that. Both because it seems a little too foolish to actually be true and because, even half asleep, she is questioning the science of it. In the end, she decides it's easiest to just accept how good it feels for now.
"It's nice," she says, words a little muffled against the fabric of Kara's shirt.
"Yeah, it is."
Kara chuckles again
Kisses her again.
And Lena feels all the lingering thoughts that had been holding on finally fade away into the comfort and the sound and the feeling not only of Kara but of the two of them pieced together.

"A story doesn't need a theme in order to be good" I'm only saying this once but a theme isn't some secret coded message an author weaves into a piece so that your English teacher can talk about Death or Family. A theme is a summary of an idea in the work. If the story is "Susan went grocery shopping and saw a weird bird" then it might have themes like 'birds don't belong in grocery stores' or 'nature is interesting and worth paying attention to' or 'small things can be worth hearing about.' Those could be the themes of the work. It doesn't matter if the author intended them or not, because reading is collaborative and the text gets its meaning from the reader (this is what "death of the author" means).
Every work has themes in it, and not just the ones your teachers made you read in high school. Stories that are bad or clearly not intended to have deep messages still have themes. It is inherent in being a story. All stories have themes, even if those themes are shallow, because stories are sentences connected together for the purpose of expressing ideas, and ideas are all that themes are.

i am not “redefining labor” i SAID that cops are not LABORERS (EXPLOITED WORKERS) unionizing to receive better working conditions for the betterment of their fellow workers. they actually DO participate in collective bargaining, and OTHER, ACTUAL LABOR UNIONS also use collective bargaining power to protect their members! if you argue otherwise, i’m sorry but that is a lie. and also NOT what i was FUCKING SAYING! that's not the point of this!! the derailing and misunderstandings of what a LABOR UNION IS that occurred in the short time this post was rebloggable was too insane not to shut off reblogs!

There's an adhd hack which I wanna describe but it's going to sound sort of fake and sort of like I'm saying "just do the thing" which I'm not.
Basically it can be impossible to start doing the thing, but once you've started it, it's actually fine right? It's just FUCKING IMPOSSIBLE to start it, especially because you don't want to do it.
So I've got this way where I start it "without meaning to" a bit like if you were standing on the edge of the cliff and unable to make yourself jump off but... but you can jerk your body violently-- then you're falling and you don't really get a say in the matter any more.
A good example of this is not wanting to make a call. So you'd sit there and plan what you want to rehearse and hit the button when you're ready... or not, because actually you'd put the phone down and run off to do literally anything else.
So instead, I just hit call really fast, with no actual intention to make the call. Oh shit I really don't want to but now it's ringing and oh shit someone picked up and now we're already rolling and it'd be worse to hang up than to just talk--
I do the same thing with timers and work tasks where I've trained my brain to only be 'winning' the 'game' when the 15m timer is running so now if I hit the timer I'm like 'oh shit work started and I'm LOSING' and I'll jump up to do exactly 15 minutes of work... Only now I've already started and I might as well keep going, right?
Turning tasks into "reactions" not "actions"-- And reacting is way easier.
It's kind of setting the "poor impulse control" part of ADHD against the "Procrastination" part and making them fight.
