The latest piece you made reminds me of like, portraits of people that my grandmother used to hang up in the rooms and hallways when I was kid. I remember profusely there was one REALLY BIG portrait of Marilyn Monroe that I absolutely loathed when I was a young'un, because I was terrified of it. I'd get up in the middle of the night wanting to go use the bathroom and then I'd peak my head out, in the dark hallway, and the only thing I could see at the end of it was the judgmental, dark eyes at the end of said hallway of the slightly illuminated portrait of her, staring at me. There were times I swore it moved, and it took a while for me to accept that it was just a portrait, because when you're a kid your imagination just can't get over it. I remembered many a night where I decided I could wait till the morning to use the bathroom because of how terrified I was of it That glare especially from Machete that in one frame is following the kid and in the next it isn't, really makes me vibe with them. With how imposing, cold and harsh Machete can appear, do you think any of the kids would end up afraid or at least unnerved of the painting by chance? I know as a kid I would've been. That those sharp reds filled with such malice would come out of the frame ready to judge me for my sins
Oh that picture of Marilyn Monroe at the end of a dark hallway is reanimating some long forgotten childhood memories in me. It's wild how random lifeless objects could seem so otherwordly and distinctly alive and dangerous when you were very little, especially at night. I was irrationally unnerved by a pair of reindeer antlers mounted on the wall of my grandparents' guest bedroom.
Realistic portraits, particularly when they're big enough to appear believably life-sized, can come across kind of uncanny even to a grown adult if the circumstances are right. I wouldn't be surprised at all if that painting was giving Vasco's pups major bad vibes when they were younger. Machete's severe expression, his sharp and elongated shapes, and the dark background of the piece wouldn't be doing it any favors.

Les Muses: La Musique by Paul Gavarni, 1839.
Slightly obsessed with this because she is listening to a mechanical device producing music—a real 1830s boom box!
It's a hand-cranked barrel organ, of course, but still small enough to be held in her lap!
Tumblr media
This c. 1830 barrel organ sold at auction plays eight songs!

Another barrel organ made c. 1835 is described as playing "four dance sections." Given the focus on social dancing at the time, and the need for dance instruction, I wonder if something like this small barrel organ was the sound system for dancing classes.

Illustration from an 1830s French social dance manual (Victoria & Albert Museum).

I recently had a conversation with a friend that made me realise that (maybe) people might not know that the Italian mafia still exists and actively operates all over Italy. Like, the general international public has this old-timey idea of the mafia that stops at the 1950s, with Al Capone, seedy bars, car chases with tommy guns etc. etc. or at least that seems to be the case for the people who don’t live in Europe, or otherwise close to Italy.
So, I made this poll. DISCLAIMER: this poll is NOT so i could judge people in any way. I can’t really fault anyone for not knowing about a problem so tied to Italian soil and culture, I was just curious.
NOTE: I’m not making a distinction between the actual Mafia, Camorra, Ndrangheta etc. etc. just pretend that all Italian organized crime is one big thing for the sake of this poll.

amber house parallel. asking Wilson to just Please do something for Himself. to buy whatever mattress HE wants (even if it’s a waterbed). to buy One piece of furniture HE wants. to ask Sam to use a coaster & put the milk in the door and to advocate for HIS needs.
they BOTH care so much about Wilson. they both see that he gives so much to everyone else, to the detriment of his own wellbeing, & beg him 2 keep *himself* in mind sometimes. of course amber does it with a touch of withholding sex & sweet eyes, and of course house pranks/scams/returns all his furniture but still. the motive is the same. the love is the same.

making mick deal with barry when len is in the “sabotaging things before they can get any more serious” stage of their relationship is truly one of my favorite things when writing coldflash… it’s like that part in pride and prejudice (2005) where darcy flees charlotte’s guest house after seeing lizzie there and charlotte asks lizzie “what on earth have you done to poor mr. darcy?” except mick knows exactly what barry has done to len and he thinks it’s hilarious, but he’s also just loyal enough to len to not say that to barry’s face

︵‿︵‿୨ a guide to cleaning your room ୧‿︵‿︵
start by gathering your supplies. you'll need a trash bag or bin for garbage, a laundry basket for dirty clothes, and any cleaning products or tools you prefer to use.
declutter surfaces. begin by clearing off any clutter from your surfaces, such as desks, dressers, and nightstands. put away items that belong elsewhere and discard any trash or items you no longer need.
make your bed. straightening your bed instantly makes the room look tidier and can help set a productive tone for the rest of your cleaning session.
tackle the floors. gather up any dirty laundry and place it in your laundry basket. then, use a vacuum or broom to clean the floors, paying special attention to corners and under furniture.
dust surfaces. use a microfiber cloth or duster to wipe down surfaces, including furniture, shelves, and baseboards. don't forget to dust any decorations or knick-knacks as well.
organize belongings. take a few moments to organize your belongings and put them back in their designated places. this can include folding clothes, arranging books, and sorting through miscellaneous items.
freshen up. if desired, spray a room freshener or light a scented candle to add a pleasant fragrance to your space.
admire your work. take a step back and admire your clean and tidy room. appreciate the effort you've put in to create a peaceful and organized space for yourself.
remember, cleaning your room doesn't have to be perfect—just do what you can and celebrate your progress. by breaking the task down into smaller steps and tackling them one at a time, you can make cleaning your room feel more manageable and even enjoyable.
