My review:

Let me set the scene: an up market candy store, one of those that makes aesthetic claims to history but isn't actually; dark wood pastry cases, gleaming brass fittings, the girl behind the counter in a striped canvas apron. The light, coming through the window is golden and thick as honey. A woman stands at the counter, dithering over a chocolate selection. She wears her dark hair up and off her neck, showing off tanned shoulders and the straps of her red sundress. She buys a dozen cherry liquor chocolates, the ones with the whole cherry inside. The box, when the shop girl passes it over to her, is tied with a piece of red twine.

This scent starts like a Birkin in a candy store - all candied fruit and soft leather, a sigh of alcohol, and a dark chocolate depth from the wood. From there it mellows out into sweet oud and true leather; eating cherry liquor chocolates in the passenger seat of a wood-panneled Bentley while driving through the wooded countryside. The last gasp is woody and smoky, less leather and the fruit is long gone from the fore but lingers in the background like sticky cherry liquor on your fingers.

Verdict:

5.5/10 - the vibes? Impeccable. The rest? Meh.

I was not blown away. It was very sweet on me and I definitely didn't get guava. On paper it has a lot more depth but on my skin It's delicious but not to my personal taste. Definitely worth a sample if you like gourmand scents or tend to lean more fruity but want something with more depth. Would make a good evening scent.

The Last Stand Exam

This file documents the questions administered to the adventuring party known as the Bad Kids during their Last Standard Exam, in their junior year at the Aguefort Adventuring Academy. This assessment was produced from a variety of class materials relevant to the curriculum of the Aguefort Adventuring Academy, as submitted to the principal Arthur Aguefort prior to the start of the school year. This list is accompanied by documentation of the creatures the party known as the Bad Kids was required to face as part of the exam.

The exam is graded out of 100 points; the scoring involves the students correctly answering the questions in the appropriate time interval as well as their heroic last stands. The students are expected to simultaneously fight off a horde of creatures and participate in the examination equally; each student in this party must answer two of the twelve questions.

Neither exam aids, nor outside interference are permitted during the examination period--this excludes clerical divine intervention, as appropriately performed by a member of the party in question. By standard, the proctor must be protected--death of the proctor results in a 30 point score reduction regardless of circumstance.

By Solisian School District Standards, this party reports excellent grades and a high level of competency with regard to independent adventuring.* They were allotted a grace period prior to exam initiation for preparatory spellcasting and review of the exam parameters. Based on prior academic achievement**, the students were allowed two chances to defer a question or utilize previous materials in their response. Shadowheart: Anything heady and lush. We're talking your jasmine amber incense bombs. Patchouli, rose, vanilla, clove and anise, chocolate, a touch of aldehydes for sparkle. She wears perfume to Turn Heads and Make Statements and it works.

Karlach: She likes cheap fruity body sprays and has no desire for anything more "sophisticated"

Wyll: Warm, sweet, woody, and spicy. Gourmands but the more sophisticated kind of gourmands. While he does not wear overtly floral-forward perfumes he DOES love when floral notes play a supporting role. Signature scent: Au Coeur du Désert by Tauer Perfumes

Astarion: Bracing greens. Scents that are so herbal they can edge into bitter/medicinal. Leather as a base note. He would put substantial effort into trying to find a mint perfume that Does It Right instead of smelling like toothpaste or vaporub.

Minthara: Understated and androgynous aquatic, ozonic, mineralic, soapy scents. Signature scent: Narciso Rodriguez For Him

Lae'zel: I honestly don't think she would be interested in scenting herself however she WOULD appreciate when someone else is wearing something bold and daring. If a perfume has a reputation of being "love it or hate it" she probably loves it.

Halsin: Okay this is probably gonna be my most controversial take on this list but I think he would wear macy's fragrance counter fuckboi scents BUT CRUCIALLY he inexplicably pulls it off and they always smell AMAZING on him.

What might Dan's characters smell like?

Gosh I can't believe I'm writing this😂Idk...this idea of imagining how different characters smell like just hit me today and I thought I should write it down. Well, it's probably because recently another fellow Dan fan asked me when I met him did he smell like anything and I couldn't give an answer...So umm...here we go.

※I'm a fragrance enthusiast so this is gonna involve a LOT of notes/ingredients...

※Imma just write my favorite characters first...

David Collins

Oh my...David. My favorite David. A mixture of light and dark. I love designing note pyramid for character like this. In the beginning of the movie he's...citrus, extremely fresh, bright, uplifting, probably bergamot and bitter orange, a tad bit of neroli for the gentleness. But then, also lavender and musk, for the universal charm.

When the suspense kicked in, there's wormwood...and oakmoss, maybe galbanum too. Just the hint of coolness that send chills down your spine. But on the surface florals aren't completely gone. Louder lavender with subtle, powdery orris root are still covering up the others.

Then finally, the identity was revealed, the florals gone, oakmoss grew stronger, vetiver and dark, damp patchouli took over. Patchouli was always there but you couldn't see it in the beginning. It's determined to stay. It'll haunt you on your sleeves and shirt collar for many days.

I haven't read the original novel but I'm just gonna write this part according to the tv series I watched. Edward is very reserved, so definitely not something too loud. Aromatic green/floral, possibly.

But the first impression he gave us was...quite refreshing, and..."balmy"? Idk if I'm using the right word but...sort of like that. His scent must open with adorable grapefruit and yuzu notes.

Then heart notes...maybe honeysuckle and narcissus. Please don't be mislead by their names, I only meant the scent themselves. Maybe a bit of jasmine as well, but very light, only a trace underneath other florals.

There should be the scent of grass. Or just the faint smell of freshly crushed leaf from a bitter orange tree. You know, the kind of scent that make you feel like "there's still good things on this world"...

Base notes are also very modest. Probably cedarwood. Plus a bit of sandalwood and vanilla perhaps. But the vanilla is very soft, not sweet at all, just smooth and creamy.

David's personalities and "aura" changed quite a bit through 3 seasons...I'm just gonna pick the Season 3 cult leader David.

David Haller

I usually don't prefer amber/resinous stuff but for this setting I might pick some...

For starters I think his cult base should smell like a mixture of incense, sandalwood, myrrh, oud, maybe some sweet smells like honey, benzoin, vanilla or even some spicy notes like cinnamon...just to make people feel "at home". And then for himself...

He's a cult leader after all. So there should be some...blue chamomile, chrysanthemum, possibly iris and violet too...added to a very smooth, soothing sandalwood base. But of course he has a pretty dark side. So let's say...a bit of leather and civet and castoreum and patchouli too. Not too much animalics though, just giving some depth to the leather note.

Sir Lancelot

A charming knight on the outside but a clueless cute little cinnamon roll on the inside. Man, this one is quite hard to imagine with scent...hmmm...

I'd say rose is his core note. Like, not the modern kind of overly sweet feminine rose, but more like, rose water mixed with scent of leather and herbs...However, if we took it out of the historical context, and focus on the character himself's personality, I would say that he just really reminds me of lychee and raspberry, especially lychee, like it's a bit of tart at first but mostly very sweet and juicy, and it matches perfectly with rose note...

Alexander Lemtov

Well, I think for such a glamorous and fabulous character the answer should be quite obvious...still lavender. But this time lavender is mixed with more sweet and alluring note, like vanilla and tonka bean, cinnamon and tobacco, and warm amber notes and musk, probably a dab of civet as well...oh and rose should be there too...

Lemtov is also extremely wealthy so who knows, maybe he'll just drop in some carnation and saffron just for fun...and it's not like they don't suit his vibe, he's quite spicy after all...🌶️But, well, even though oud is also very expensive, I personally don't think Lemtov is "the oud type of guy", it's too straight for him🤣

Well, that's uh...five Dan characters that I'm most familiar with, I might write more but I'm not sure how many people will be interested in this weird sort of fantasy-diary-essay-whateverthisiscalled-thingy so Imma just leave it here...😅

This is a gorgeous forest fragrance with notes of soil, green grass, oak moss, and whiskey. It smells like wandering too deep in the woods one night and stumbling upon something you were not meant to see.

This is a gorgeous, heady amber scent with the very slightest hint of floral. Lush and dark like fucking in a church surrounded by myrrh, resins, and roses left as offerings. Sacred filth.

Sunshine - Electric Sky by Tory Burch

This is a bright, ozonic scent reminiscent of standing in an herb garden just as it starts sun showering and the drops and beams of light hit your face. Notes of blue sage, violet, lavender are fresh and green while palo santo gives the scent warmth.

Middle notes: cactus flower, lavender

Base notes: palo santo, vetiver

Aurora - Black Currant Rose by Heretic Parfums

This is a grown up rose scent, a don’t fuck with me even though I’m 4’11” rose scent. A sexy “call me princess one more time I dare you” scent. Bergamot and geranium enrich damask rose and currant leaves, with just a hint of juicy raspberry.

Top notes: bergamot, grapefruit, geranium

My new fragrance obsession. This smells like a storm on a forested seashore, the ocean spray mixing with the berries and leaves of the wood as clouds churn above you. Patchouli and juniper berries blend with ozonic notes giving that fresh, almost aquatic scent.

Fragrance girlies: what do we think Scully wears?

I’ve been thinking about this a lot recently because I’m searching for my signature scent and have been learning about fragrances in the process.

I think Scully is someone who chooses how she presents herself very carefully. She would employ the scientific method to find her signature scent, doing research, testing dozens of samples, and keeping track of which notes she prefers.

Here’s how I imagine Scully’s signature scent, in the style of a fragrance review (which are, on the whole, surprisingly lyrical):

I think she wants her scent to be subtle but layered. Apart from simply liking the smell, she wants to evoke a scene, feeling, or memory. As we know, Scully is a family-oriented person who cherishes the gifts bestowed on her by her parents—notably, the cross necklace, but more broadly, her Catholic faith. As I suspect is the case for many Catholics, for Scully, much of the appeal of going to church is rooted in ancient traditions and worship aesthetics—think incense, smooth wood, gospel processions, tall beeswax candles, blood-red fabrics, chants, bitter Communion wine, textured bulletin paper. I think Scully would want her signature scent to evoke, if not a sense of Catholicism, something monumental, ritualistic, and purifying; a promise of salvation that science can never provide.

However, speaking of science, I think there must be something about the freshness and modernity of what you might call more “clinical” scents that appeals to Dana Scully, Medical Doctor. Even the pickiest of noses cannot ignore the allure of a good lobby smell, complete with a whiff of commercial floor cleaner, and as a star medical student, young Dana Scully was often in labs and hospitals, surrounded by chemicals. I think she likes the comfortability of the fresh, clean, and methodical. It feels like her, what she brings to the table.

Lastly, I think Scully has a deep reverence for nature, and judging by her behavior in episodes like “Darkness Falls” and “Detour,” she’s always been a forest girl. I associate The X-Files in general with foresty smells, and I think when Scully remembers the early days, she pictures all those times she and Mulder ran around in the woods together. Think fallen pine needles, miles of conifer trees wet with rain, damp, rich soil. Woodsy and earthy and rooted. Tethered to the ground, not flying around amongst the stars, fate unknown.

So, based on all of that, I think Scully would want a fragrance that’s traditional/nostalgic, fresh/modern, and woodsy/earthy, possibly with some of these notes:

Traditional/nostalgic: frankincense, myrrh, patchouli, elemi, benzoin

Fresh/modern: bergamot, cotton blossom, lemongrass, aldehydes, white tea, lavender

Woodsy/earthy: Cedarwood, cypress, pine, rain, soil, orris, petrichor, vetiver, oud
