hey so color out of space?
Lovecraft’s story about a strangely glowing rock that fell to earth then fucked everything up and killed EVERYTHING?
That’s just radiation isn’t it?
That’s just a radioactive space rock isn’t it?!

Hi! I finally got the chance to read Aurora a bit ago. It's a wonderful story--all I was expecting and better! I was particularly amazed and delighted by the artwork and visual mechanics used to tell the story, so I wrote a post to yell about how cool it is and break some of it down. (No criticism, just praise.) I'm mostly a hobbyist, so I'm hoping I've done it justice.
That said: zero pressure to read it or respond to this ask. Normally I wouldn't send it since I tagged, but I know Tumblr's notifs are a mess and things get lost very easily. I've been in both the "one (1) word of praise will feed me for a year" and the "oh gods don't talk about my writing/art because anything that seems Off will break my brain" modes before, and I absolutely don't want to push or make you uncomfortable!
If you are comfortable, however, I wanted to ask about your use of what I'm assuming are Screen and blending modes in sound effect words. (I'm only guessing that's the technique, though, so I could be totally wrong about how it's done! I'm mostly experienced in image manipulation in Photoshop.) Making them semi-transparent over the actions is genius :) What inspired you to do that, and are there specific techniques you use to make it work?
Same questions go for using specific colors to distinguish different characters' words and actions. I really noticed it in the cave sequence with Falst and Dainix, since their colors are so vivid in the dark (ex. Falst's little swats and Dainix's swooping kick at 1.20.9). It lends excellent clarity to busy scenes.
Thanks! Have a lovely day, enjoy your break, and happy holidays <3
You're correct about the technique! "Screen" is the blend mode I use most often for sound effects. I stumbled on it mostly through trial and error - I love how sound effects add depth to a comic panel, but it's very easy for them to obscure the art in a way I find counterproductive, so "Screen" lets me put the sound effect directly over the origin of the sound while still letting it be visible through the word. Early chapters didn't have it as much-
Tumblr media
Most of the sound effects in early chapters are just solid colors with reduced opacity if I'm feeling fancy. But I started figuring it out around chapter 8 and 9, because Falst is kind of a sound-effect-heavy guy, especially in his fight scenes.
Tumblr media
In order to make sure they don't impede the visibility of the action, I'll often soft-erase the top or bottom half of the SFX to reduce its opacity while still leaving it readable.
Tumblr media
I'll usually double that up with an outline on the SFX so it's still readable. This is an especially important consideration if the SFX goes over an area of the background that's very bright or glowing.
Tumblr media
Color-coding the speed lines and SFX to the character or force causing them isn't a hard and fast rule, but I like using it (in part because it's a habit from the OSP illustrations, where every character has a single pop of color in their lineart) mostly because it sort of codes every sound to make it clear where it's emanating from, or the general feeling of the sound. Since I normally do character-colors for SFX, something like this stands out more jarringly-
Tumblr media
Which it's supposed to, but a big lightning strike doesn't register as anything too worrying because it's just Tess up to her usual shenanigans.
Tumblr media
It's also very useful for magic effects, because each form of magic has its own associated palette.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And when I had a very complicated fight scene in a dark environment, I used the texture pattern I'd already made for the monster to color its SFX, so when I Screened them onto the panels they didn't obscure too much while still communicating "this is something else."
Tumblr media
Changing the weight, lined-vs-not-lined, and opacity of the SFX words also helps to communicate that not every sound has the same feeling. A strong motion is solid and aggressive, but a crackling, unstable sound is more ephemeral and staticky.
Tumblr media
It's definitely been a process of learning as I go - looking back at the earlier chapters I can actually see when I first tried various tricks I now use regularly, like doubling and distorting an SFX to produce the effect of a camera-shaking impact. I haven't really seen any other comics that do it like I do, probably because most other comics follow a more traditional production pipeline where text bubbles and sound effects get locked into the composition early, before the inking stage, because traditional physical comics don't have digital-art layers to play with. Adding sound effects to a page is almost the last thing I do before exporting them, and that only works because digital art and layers allow for a ton of flexibility.

As an avid consumer of Overly Sarcastic productions I will say that their vocab has been slowly slipping into mine I now use phrases such as.
"Not the sharpest knife in the Caesar."
"Strange color unlike any seen on earth!"
"If only (blank) wasn't such an absolute Dingus!"

I was rewatching the “Dragons” OSP trope talk, and I realized that we see so many different variants of dragons, but we hardly see different variants of other species, like elves. They’re all the same: tall, fair, thin, graceful (The Dragon Prince did a really great subversion of this). Elves are supposed to be mystical magical beings, right? Then why are they so boring? I want to see other types!! Elves with different skin tones!!! Elves with crazy characteristics that match their magic!!!
Fire elves whose hair is always alight and emits smoke when exhausted and sparks when energetic with black skin with veins running down their arms that glow a fiery orange!!!! Water elves with storm clouds for hair and webs in between their fingers and toes and always smell like sea salt or incoming rain!!! Earth and plant elves with as many skin tones and hair colors as there are different flowers and soils and can gain nutrients through photosynthesis and reproduce asexually and emit the scent of petrichor when they touch water!!!!
Tree elves that are impossibly old and their skin is rough like bark with circles that appear with age and their blood is sticky and sweet like sap!!! Winter elves with ice-cold skin with veins across their body that looks like shattered ice and leaves frost everywhere they touch!!!! Desert elves with gritty skin that slowly turns to glass with age and is hot to the touch in the day and cold at night!!!! Lightning elves whose voices crackle with electricity and hair that is constantly frizzy and standing up and that gives off static shocks whenever they’re emotional!!!
Elves with animal features!!! Owl elves covered in feathers and can turn their head 270 degrees and see wayyyy better than most others!!! Arctic fox and hare elves with fur that changes color with the seasons and have impeccable hearing and are resistant to the cold!!! Scorpion elves that are resistant to the heat and have naturally hard skin and a tail full of venom!!! Shark elves with multiple rows of teeth and rough skin and are sensitive to electromagnetic fields!!!
ELVES WITH DIFFERENT BODY TYPES AND ELVES WITH DISABILITIES!!!
WHALE ELVES THAT ARE LARGE AND HEAVY AND CAN MAKE THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SONGS!!! MUSHROOMS ELVES THAT ARE SHORT AND PLUMP WITH BIOLUMINESCENT SKIN AND CAPS THAT GROW ALL OVER THEIR BODY!!!! MOTH ELVES THAT ARE SMALL AND THICK AND HAVE A DEEP LONGING FOR L I G H T.
SKY ELVES THAT CAN WALK ON AIR AND ARE NEGATIVELY AFFECTED BY AIR POLLUTION!!! BEE ELVES THAT NATURALLY ATTRACT POLLEN TO THEM AND ARE AT A HIGH RISK OF DEATH DUE TO THEIR STINGER BEING THEIR ONLY NATURAL WEAPON!!! GEMSTONE ELVES WITH SKIN AND EYES THAT GLITTER AND SHINE WITH BONES THAT VARY ACCORDING TO THE HARDNESS SCALE!!! LEAF ELVES WHOSE HAIR CHANGES COLORS AND FALLS OUT IN AUTUMN AND GET SEASONAL DEPRESSION THE CLOSER TO WINTER IT GETS!!!!
There are so many possibilities!!! I know that Lord of the Rings and Dungeons and Dragons really laid down the foundation for much of the fantasy genre and characteristics such as magic systems and races, but that doesn’t mean we have to stick to the the same path. Branch out! Do something unique! You’ve got a river of creativity in you, let it loose! Let it break the banks and surge through you!!!
It’s my opinion, as an avid fan and writer of fantasy, that while we can appreciate and certainly build off what Tolkien laid down, we should take the initiative to start crafting our own fantasies, make our own contributions to the fantasy genre. Because in the end, “fantasy” is such a broad term, impossibly vast, there are so many aspects to the concept of “fantasy”, that we could never truly manage to run out of ideas.
I am, of course, not saying that people who enjoy the classical concept of fantasy are wrong or boring. If that’s what you enjoy, then go for it! Heck, I enjoy it, too! But I also think that there is a wellspring of potential in each of us, and I wholly believe that we can put some of the craziest and unique ideas into words and onto paper, no matter how it happens.

The Eighth Immortal Maiden
Sun Wukong x The Eighth Colored Immortal Maiden! Reader
A/n: This is an idea I had for a while after rewatching OSP of Monkey king and LMK. This fanfic came to mind and went through many rewrites to make it feel right. (At least to me). So I hope you enjoy it!
Chapter One
Summary: When the Queen Mother of the west, sends one of her colored coded maidens to inspect the fruits for the festival. She encounters a particular monkey who was giving her a hard time.
Another bright day in the celestial realm, sun shining, and peace in the air. If only it could stay like this for a little longer, but the sounds of boredom ranged throughout the immortal peach garden.
"This is so boring!" An irritated Wukong whinnied. Why weren't there any demons coming to steal? Or someone he can talk into doing this task? His mind was racing with thoughts of running to have some fun, not noticing a (H/C) maiden walking in to see the trees and their buds of peaches and flowers.
A maiden was sent by the Heavenly Queen, to see how the fruits were coming along. She carefully minded her own business, seeing the monkey guard in a frustrated posture, not even batting an eye to his muttering nonsense. He was getting tired of watching peaches and not battling or anything.
When the maiden strolled in a close range of him, his ear twitched, and he saw her. The (H/C) maiden examed the peaches carefully and wrote something down. Before she could finish writing, she heard a chuckle close to her ear. She turns to see Sun Wukong holding his staff close to her face.
"You are pretty picky if you came all this way to steal a peach." He said as the maiden huffed a bit before pushing his staff away from her. "I'm sorry to tell you this, but I'm not a thief." She said as she walked away from him. Wukong almost stood there, stunned at her boldness.
"Woah! who said you can leave?" He said as he moved in front of the maiden. The maiden furrowed her eyebrows in annoyance.
"I am here to see how the peaches are coming along. You should be focusing on guarding this place!" She huffed and moved away from him. "I am guarding this place!" He retorted, causing the maiden to roll her eyes.
"Really? Because I walked in here so effortlessly! Who knows what would have happened if I was someone else!" She turned to him, giving him a stern look. Only to see Wukong was picking at his ear and leaning on his staff.
"What you say?" He reacted unfazed. She realized he didn't even pay attention to her advice. She had to take a few deep breaths before she whispered, "why did the jade emperor choose you for an important task?"
"Because I am the great sage equal to heaven! A task like this needs to be taken by someone amazing like me!" He said with pride as he posed on his anubis cloud.
"I have never heard of you…Also, you were just whining about this!" (Y/n) said as she went back to look at the peach buds. He gasped loudly and sounded very offended.
"You never heard of Sun Wukong! And no, I wasn't! " She shook her head and bluntly replied, "Nope, I only heard that there was a menace in heavens court. Now I'm assuming that's you." She saw his eye twitch a bit before he said with a cocky grin, "Well, that is pretty rude coming from a peach theft!" His tail wrapped around her waist and forced her to turn towards him. She swiftly swats his tail off of her.
"Again! I am not a thief! I am one of the eight colored coded maidens from the empress. I was following orders to come here to see how things were going. It turns out they are going terrible if you're in charge." The maiden expressed as she scanned him up and down, shaking her head again.
"Hey, I am doing a great job watching these trees!" He said before he got off his cloud. "If you think I'm doing so poorly, then why don't you come and guard this place instead?" She thought about this but knew she wasn't much of a fighter.
"Sadly, I can't, but I will be coming by more. It would be best if someone kept an eye on you. At least till you understand how important this duty is." She said. It took a minute for him to process what the maiden had said.
"Wait, what?" He said before she walked away from him to the entrance again. She felt proud, now begin able to make sure the peaches were ready before the festival. "I don't need to be babysat!" Wukong yelled. She shook her head and ignored him as she walked away.
"At least tell me your name, peaches!" He yelled as he reached the edge of the garden. The maiden turned to him with a cocky smile.
"My name is (Y/n), the (f/c) maiden." She said before leaving to her majesty's side. He stared at her as she walked off with a smirk. "Well, I hope to see you soon, (Y/n)," he quietly spoke. He went back to the garden and complained again.
As (Y/n) walked back to her majesty's, she saw a pink warrior coming her way. "Nezha! How have you been?" The warrior looked at her with a soft smile. "better now that I see you." The maiden was confused, "What do you mean? Did something happen?" She asked him and saw him scrunching his face a bit.
"Yes, Wukong and his implosive behavior! I still don't understand why the emperor gave him a title." He started to get a bit red. He realized how loud he was becoming and calmed himself down. Before he could speak (Y/n) asked him.
"Wait, Sun Wukong? The Monkey King is guarding the immortal peaches?" His eye widens by her words. "What!?" She nodded to confirm his fear.
"Yes, I just met him. He is very energetic and unique." She said, rolling her eyes and smiling, but Nezha was angry. "That monkey! I have to tell the jade emperor before-"
"The jade emperor was the one who gave him the role. From what i heard."(Y/n) said hesitantly. She didn't want to tell him, but she knew she had to. Nezha mentally broke down for a moment before composing himself. "I am sure he has a good reason for 'this'," he said.
"Well, I sure it was to keep him from boredom." She suspected it, and he agreed. He realized that (Y/n) met him and wanted to know if she was okay."I hope he didn't harm you in any way."
She giggled and answered him. "No, he didn't. He needs to be watched for a while. Which I plan to do until the peach festival at least." Nezha's eyes widen, "What! No, stay away from him! He is nothing but a troublemaker!" He expressed.
"Don't worry, Nezha. I'll be fine." (Y/n) smiled only to be met with a blank face. He sighed and rubbed his temple before he spoke to her about the monkey king and his battle against him. Nezha heard his name called from the emperor's palace.
"I'm sorry (Y/n), I have to go." He said as he walked away but turned around and gave her a dead stare. "Stay away from Sun Wukong from now on. He's not good news!" He said. (Y/n) gave him a small smile as he left. " Sorry, Nezha, I can't fail the peach festival." She stated before heading back to the Queen.
A few days passed by since the maid had visited the mischievous king. (Y/n) knew she had nothing to worry about, but something ate at her mind. She decided one visit wouldn't hurt. As she walked into the garden, she saw no one there.
"Sun Wukong?"
(Y/n) thought nothing much of it, so she kept walking around and calling his name.
Nothing.
"Where is he? How can he leave his post!" (Y/n) expressed worry.
A bird perched on her shoulder as she walked around the garden. (Y/n) was a surprise because its color is similar to Wukong. She sighed as she walked around and still no sign of the Monkey King.
"Where could he be? You think someone who calls himself 'great sage equal to heaven' would be more responsible."
She said and looked at the bird. The bird seemed upset and turned away. 'great, first Wukong disappeared, and now I'm talking to a bird.' she thought and shook her head. The bird flew from her shoulder before she noticed it was gone.
"Hey, peaches," a voice came from behind her. (Y/n) flinched as he moved away from her. "Aw, you were so keen on seeing me." He smirked as he dusted himself and walked towards (Y/n).
"You do know," she said as she looked at him. "you can't leave in the middle of the day." Wukong waved his finger at her. "But I didn't leave. Plus it is rude that you would say I'm not responsible." He said in humph cause he was right in a sense.
(Y/n) was confused about how he knew what she said? But the bird popped into her head, and she realized. "Wait, you're the bird?!" She expressed as he nodded. "Yeah, that was me!" He smiled before transforming into the bird again. Wukong flew to her shoulder, giving a cocky grin. "pretty great, uh?"
(Y/n) was impressed but she didn't want Wukong to know so she just nodded. "I guess so," she said before shooing him off. He transformed back, not before giving her a small peck on her hand. "ow!" She said and saw him sticking his tongue out.
"Well, it seems like the garden hasn't fallen apart yet. I guess I'll be going now." She said before being stopped by Wukong with his tail wrapping around her waist.
"Aww, wait, don't leave yet." He said as he held her back. "It's so boring here! Please stay for a bit!" He kept whining.
"Fine, but please let go." (Y/n) said as she walked back. His tail lingered on her waist before he lets go of her.
"so what is your story, Great sage equal to heaven?" She said, looking at the monkey king smiling at her. "Well, where do I start?" He smirked as if he was in deep thought. he summoned his anubis cloud and sat on it.
He explained his origin and how he earned the title of great sage equal to heaven, excluding the stable boy part. He posed as he explained the fights he was in, becoming excited. (Y/n) was now invested in his travels as she sat down on his cloud as listened to the monkey king.
She creased her fingers over to the cloud. Her eyes widen in surprise. The cloud was soft, well as a cloud. "Ahh, I see you like my cloud. It's very comfortable to lay on!" Wukong exclaimed as he lay down on it. (Y/n) was a bit quiet before the monkey king asked her a question. "I think I said enough about me. So tell me about yourself, peaches?" She was taken aback by that.
"Well, there's not all lot to me. I am one of the seven peach maidens. We are all sisters and serve the empress. I go out of my way to have everything in order." She said it proudly, causing Wukong to chuckle, "is that it? There has to be more!" He said, confusing (Y/n).
"What do you mean? I believe that enough to know about me." She huffed and turned away from him.
It made him smirk, "Yeah, but your also a bit feisty and stubborn from the way I see it." he said as he stood in front of her.
"Plus, I mean you if it was just you." (Y/n) never thought of it, before she was always with her sisters. As she thought, Wukong was staring at her. The (f/c) flower in her hair, the (f/c) ribbon flowing around her, and her facial features looked stunning.
He found her radiant. He broke out of his trance when he heard her voice, "I guess I would say, I am determined to succeed, willing to help others even if they are a bit hard-headed," (Y/n) looked at Wukong and thought about Nezha. "And I want to do my best, no matter what. " She said as they sat in silence for a bit.
Wukong smiled and broke the quietness, "That's what I'm talking about. It's nice to see someone with the same ideas as me." (Y/n) rolled their eyes and smiled. She wanted to stay longer but knew she needed to be by the queen's side.
"Well, I have to go now. I'll see you soon, Sun Wukong." She grinned and walked out of the garden. "You better come back soon!" Wukong yelled at her as she walked off. He could hear her laugh at him before disappearing.
The weeks pass by so seamlessly. It felt like the time was slow and endless when (Y/n) was with Wukong. She would be amazed when he spoke about his adventure and his fight with Nezha, which would make her giggle.
When Wukong would want her to talk about her days, she would refuse. (Y/n) would say her days were the same and nothing too exciting, but he would insist on her telling him anyways. Wukong would be interested in every small thing she would say.
Soon (Y/n) would sneak out to be with him and just him. Using the excuse of ' Keeping an eye on Wukong.' she would say to other celestial sprites that would question her. Her mind would wander off in thought to the Monkey King as she did her task.
Her sisters would worry about her cause she was always on top of things. Now (Y/n) would be daydreaming. Wukong would be doing the same since nothing happened in the garden. He would be scolded by Nezha when he found him zoned out.
Wukong would be daydreaming about (Y/n) and then get smacked in the back of his head by Nezha. It wasn't long till the peach festival started to peek around the corner. Nezha had a terrible feeling about his dear friend falling for Wukong. He didn't want to see her hurt by him.

Dionysus Redesign
Tumblr media
I am not happy with the recent chapter with eggplant looking baby Dionysus. Here's just my take of a more grown up Dionysus with my own spin of his looks.
Semele in the comics had freckles so I'm adding it in his design.
Inspired by OSP's colour scheme with Dionysus, being violet/purple with the grapes.
Grape earrings since I found it to be cute. 🍇
Wine colored eyes.
Since he is described as androgynous, I made his features more feminine. If I had done a full body design, he'd have bigger hips as well.
I made a bonus look for when he's more angry.
His body and hair turns more of a wine red.
His hair starts to get more liquid-like and puddles up.
In some versions of Dionysus, especially in his portrayal from The Bacchanal, he had ram horns so I added them.

Hello! Lmk criticism curious anon back again!
Thank you for the in depth answer, it confirmed a lot of what I had guessed were the issues with it, but also brought up a couple points I hasn't fully considered. Your point about how in the west we tend to play with Roman/norse/etc gods freely was something I knew and was part of why I was confused why it seemed so frowned upon with Eastern religions, but I hadn't considered the fact that eastern religions tend to be sort of ignored anyways, so that same sort of dollhouse play would be seen as disrespectful.
I've been meaning to dive further into it, there's a lot there and it's all so interesting. But like you said, I definitely think I'm in the minority for wanting to look into it more. The fandom seems to take a combination of LMK and OSP's summaries as the only jttw media to look at and use, and refuse anything else (some of the stuff they do with ne'zha is exhausting), so I can definitely see where that combined with the much larger audience would make it hard to engage with.
The point about the much larger audience meaning more criticism just by more people is good as well. I've got rough anxiety and seeing so many people seem to rag on it was starting to make me feel bad for enjoying it when it felt like the consensus was starting to be 'anyone who actually knows jttw sees it as disrespectful' and I wanted to understand why that was - or even if it was entirely true in the first place.
But thank you again for the answer, it was helpful. Love your work by the way, both thr LMK and jttw ones. Your jttw wukong is such a shaped design, I love the colors and markings <3
You're more than welcome, anon! Glad I was able to clear things up for you <3
for what it's worth, i know a fair share of folks who adore JTTW and also enjoy LMK to some level, and quite a few who entered the more scholarly side of the fandom thanks to it!! you're not alone in wanting to learn more about the novels and the culture behind them thanks to LMK.
rest assured that you can enjoy LMK critically, doing so isn't the downfall of China or anything. we can always use more reasonable voices in the fandom, who can look at it critically without taking away from the good and genuinely entertaining things in it, and who can help invite more folks into some proper media literacy.
and i'm glad you enjoy my art!! <33 hoping to keep them coming, they bring me much joy and i'm happy sharing it makes people happy too :D

The Batman Part II: My Theories
Please take this with a block of salt because as of right now all we have are rumors. Maybe take that block of salt home to your cows :)
Theory #1: Clayface
So, word is that Clayface may appear as the main villain in Part II. I've noticed some people in various comment sections being doubtful, because a giant shapeshifting monster made out of clay is a sharp left turn from the "grounded realism" of the first movie. They make a good point, which is why I predict that, if Clayface is actually going to appear, he'll be based on the Golden Age version. This was Basil Karlo, a failed actor who took on the alter ego of Clayface, a villain he used to play, to kill various actors and was thwarted by Batman and Robin.
Now, having two serial killer villains in a row would be repetitive, so I theorize that this Clayface will take a different approach. Imagine Basil Karlo using his skills in impressions and makeup (maybe a cutting-edge prosthetic face mask called a "clay face") to impersonate celebrities in Gotham, only to purposefully get caught in scandals. The real celebrity insists it wasn't them, but it's too late, and they're effectively "killed" in the courtroom of public opinion. And Clayface didn't even need to lay a finger on them.
Meanwhile, Bruce Wayne is finally trying to develop his public image after ~20 years, only to discover a villain with the ability to singlehandedly undo all his progress in the eyes of Gotham. In the comics, this would be the part where Batman and Robin are on the case, which leads me to...
Theory #2: Robin
We haven't had a well-received Boy Wonder on the big screen since Burt Ward played him in 1966. If you're anything like me, that's pretty damn frustrating (Dick Grayson appeared in the comics before the Joker AND before Alfred!). So hearing this rumor of Dick Grayson appearing in Part II is both exciting and nerve-wracking, because writing a believable child sidekick in a "grounded, realistic" superhero movie is a challenge. Just logistically, it works in stories like Logan or The Last of Us, because X-23 is immortal and can shrug off most injuries, while Joel eventually taught Ellie how to shoot. But with Batman and Robin, you have a very-much-mortal kid wearing a colorful costume going up against the kinds of people who quite literally emptied their magazines into Batman's chest last movie. How do you make that character fit believably into the world you've made?
Obviously the only ones who can answer that question are Matt Reeves and Mattson Tomlin, the writers for Part II. But I'd be lying if I said I didn't notice some ways that Dick Grayson might've been set up in The Batman. First off: the mayor's son. Bats interacts with him three times throughout the movie. He saves the kid's life twice, once as Bruce and once as Batman. Furthermore, the mayor's son is the first civilian to trust Batman after the flood: he walks towards Bats first, and everyone else follows. In the wise words of Red from OSP, if you can't imagine your Batman comforting a scared child, then you haven't written Batman, you've written the Punisher in a funny hat.
Second: HBO's Penguin series. The fact that they're introducing other gangsters from the comics (Sofia and Alberto Falcone, Salvatore Maroni) gives me hope that they might take the opportunity to introduce Tony Zucco, the gangster who killed Dick Grayson's parents. There are quite a few actors cast in undisclosed roles, maybe one of them plays Zucco...? Either way, setting up Zucco's extortion of Haly's Circus in The Penguin and following it up in Part II with the Flying Graysons' murders would be a good way to tie those stories together.
Third: Bruce Wayne's reappearance. Part I was all about Batman discovering that he has to be more than vengeance, and Reeves has said we'll be seeing more of Bruce Wayne in Part II. Perhaps Bruce's first major public appearance is attending a performance by Haly's Circus, and he just so happens to witness the deaths of the Flying Graysons. And we know what happens next. What better way to force Bruce to take his image seriously (aside from Clayface's shenanigans) than for him to suddenly have an angry, traumatized, highly impressionable kid in his life?
Fourth: This is the weakest reason, but at the end of the movie Selina mentions she's moving to Blüdhaven, which also happens to be where Dick Grayson goes after growing up and becoming Nightwing.
That turned out longer than I thought it would be. Again, these are all just rumors, but I wanted to put my thoughts and theories down in writing in an organized way, and to see what anyone else thinks. Thank you for reading.

I bought myself a wallet to paint (I needed a new one). While I may be eyes deep in transformers, I still love Greek mythology.
The Artemis and Apollo designs are essentially OSP’s interpretations from memory, and I have Grace from Stray Gods on the other side with the three color choices from the game.
