for the character ask thing - gríma (Ik this is an obvious pick but I love him)

I mean I literally always want to talk about Grima so this is great. Any excuse is a good one.

How I feel about this character

Well I obviously love him. I enjoy characters who have been shunted to the margins in some way, shape, or form - or believe themselves to have been regardless of whether it is an accurate reflection of reality - who then make increasingly Poor Life Choices.

Also he is a great example of how isolation - whether self imposed or imposed by others - can lead to terrible things. In his case, it lead to despair in the world and the ability for people to defeat Sauron which resulted in being bedfellows with Saruman. Despair and the loss of hope and fear are such powerful feelings and I enjoy characters who go down those roads and the many iterations those stories can take.

For poor Grima it ended with him being horrifically mistreated by Saruman - like *horrifically* - then dying.

(I do resent that post by a Particularly Popular Tumblr which pitched Grima as the bad roommate that poor Saruman had to put up with as if it wasn’t Saruman who was browbeating and starving the guy, having him crawl on all fours like a dog, making him eat a hobbit etc. Grima is not a good man but Saruman is worse.)

He’s also a spooky snake man?? Who has some form of magical/words-are-power-becuase-we’re-anglo-saxons-on-horses ability?? Which is rad. And he’s so sassy in the books! He even sasses Treebeard which is very sexy of him. (You know, before he was broken down into a empty husk of a man by a certain wizard.)

All the people I ship romantically with this character

Eomer or no one. Depends on my mood. But I would say it’s 90% Eomer and 10% no one/he’s ace or thereabouts.

I know I’m the odd one out in this very tiny corner of the fandom who doesn’t ship him with Eowyn. But that’s because he is a tiny gay goth and she’s a non-binary queer and they should be friends but not lovers.

My non-romantic OTP for this character

Theoden. Hands down. Oh my god I love the idea of Grima just waltzing into Theoden’s office like YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE THE NONSENSE I HEARD TODAY MY LORD KING. The two just bitching about shit and side-eyeing Gondor.

‘Get your life right, Denethor,’ says Grima, middle earth’s messiest bitch.

If only he didn’t go and ruin it all by committing some light oath-breaking and treason.

For my Rewrite it’s obviously Legolas he’s bro’s with. They’re both uniformly strange. Legolas is 80% feral; Grima is just so messy. So, so messy. Together they’re an unstoppable force of “good gods who let them be friends? Is Legolas fist fighting that orc while Grima runs a book on it? Someone stop them.’

My unpopular opinion about this character

I don’t know that I have an unpopular opinion on him? I suppose, my view that he deserves understanding could be unpopular. Like Sauron, Morgoth, Saruman etc. he didn’t start out the way he became. I think it’s important to understand what made a person the way they are as if you understand that you might because to unpick the knot.

I personally have great sympathy for him but I don’t expect others to.

Oh - he and Gandalf are two sides of the same Odinn Coin. They’re both different aspects of Odinn, essentially. Do with that what you will.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

He should have lived! I’ve banged on about this from time to time but his living would have been a powerful note to end on with the final wrapping up of the war.

One of the tenants of the series is that love and friendship and kindness and generosity of spirit are powerful forces - as powerful, if not more so, than hate. So we have this whole thing about defeating Sauron, melting some nice jewelry, but only the Already Good People live. What about the power of these things to effect fundamental change in someone?

Wounds that make a person do dark things are not formed in isolation - they are born in relationship with others. Therefore healing also must happen in relationship with others.

Essentially, that moment of Frodo’s gesture: You don’t have to go with Saruman. You can leave him, stay with me, take what rest you need.

That gesture is the first step in providing someone the opportunity to take the road of redemption. But everyone who could actually benefit from such an offer (Grima, Denethor etc.) all die. Had a single one of them lived, that would have made for a stronger story.

Sorry for the deluge I just have 500 emotions about Grima and I drop them everywhere.

Favorite Character Type: the Steadfast

So. In watching the Untamed, suddenly I realized what one of my favorite character types is and why I like a lot of the media I like. I am just...all about the Steadfast character type. Loyal and patient in the face of sometimes ridiculous quantities of adversity, the one who will always choose their chosen when the chips are down. They will follow them into the goddamned dark (metaphorically, b/c the whole point is that they get through the dark together).

Honestly??? The Steadfast character might not even be my favorite character in a particular series/show/book/etc (though they usually are), and the loyalty doesn’t have to be actively romantic (though it’s always underlaid by some flavor of love). They’re usually a secondary character or co-lead, and if they’re a main character, they’re possibly in service to their chosen in some respect. (Service kink? What is this you say? Ahem, I have no idea what you’re talking about.)

This relationship dynamic. Just. This dynamic.

Here are all the examples I can think of off the top of my head from least obscure to most (more or less).

James “Bucky” Buchanan Barnes (Marvel Cinematic Universe) — Look at this motherfucker. Sniper-support, literally goes to hell for his faith in the guy who he loves. (Bro or Romo, he loves Steve, I will fight you.) Till the end of the line? Yeah, and beyond, even after he falls off the goddamned train.

Merlin (BBC Merlin) — Merlin and Arthur, shipped together by the dragon in the basement since the very first episode. Destiny, two sides of the same coin, etc, and so on. But the point is. The point is that Merlin starts by drinking poison for Arthur and he never gets any less ride or die, despite the trauma and his fatalistic love-hate relationship with destiny.

Utena Tenjou (Revolutionary Girl Utena) — Okay, full disclosure, I have never finished the series, and Utena only partially fits this trope since she is the hero of her own story. However, her goal in life was to ‘be the prince,’ the one who is deliberately Steadfast, ready to win/serve/love(?!) the Rose Bride. When I was sixteen, I watched as much of what I could scrape out of my local vhs rental place with my little heart in my little hands and went, “Oh. Oh this.” She’s half my favorite character type and half of something completely unique, but she deserves to be on this list because she’s right down there at the base of my love for this whole trope.

Hardison & Eliot (Leverage) (both of them, my heart, my heart) — Look, these two are 2/3 of the OT3 of my heart. Hardison, because he will wait for goddamned ever for Parker. Just...everything about the peanuts and giving Parker space to be herself. Eliot because he basically marries them both at the end with ‘until my dying day.’ They all go through so much for each other, but these two especially are just...there in the background doing their thing and holding each other and Parker up and it’s magnificent.

Lan WangJi, Hanguang-Jun (The Untamed) — This fellow right here made me realize exactly the character type I love the most. He does not start off as the Steadfast, but he comes to it after an arc, and makes a declaration that I’m crying about right now just thinking about. You and me against the world, baby, no regrets. The show goes for epic high romance, while the book goes for puzzle pieces fitting together, but both iterations give me this and I love it so much.

Grace (Terminator: Dark Fate) — A newcomer to the scene and say what you will about the movie, I’m fond of it for a dozen reasons. But Grace. Grace right here. The movie layers over and redefines the original Terminator in all sorts of fascinating ways, and THEN gives us Grace, who is ready to fistfight god and the Terminator and everyone in between for a profound and encompassing (familial) love.

The rest are book characters and I’m going further and further back in time, so the gifs are only relevant and not of the characters themselves. T_T

Joscelin Verreuil (Kushiel’s by Jacqueline Carey) — Joscelin sets aside his entire life for the sake of Phedre, to become her consort and her protector. He, in the words of the book, “will ... stand at the crossroads and choose, choose again and again...” to stay with Phedre even down into the most literal of hells. And just, he’s exactly this Steadfast trope. Exactly. He chooses, repeatedly and with full knowledge of what he’s following her into, and he still does it over and over.

Daemon Saetan SaDiablo (The Black Jewels by Anne Bishop) — These are my favorite books, but please do not read them without looking up the content warnings. Daemon, tho. He’s the embodiment of this steadfast loyalty and dedicated service. (And the series is This Trope: the Worldbuilding, so you have an inkling of why I love it.) There’s zero question he would carve his heart out upon request, and basically does so at the end of the first trilogy, breaking everything he’s tried so hard to build with full knowledge that that’s exactly what he’s doing.

Achmed (Symphony of the Ages by Elizabeth Hayden) — So. Achmed. Half of my first OTP before I knew what an OTP was. He’s not actually the romantic lead in the books, but he is the other side of the main character’s coin, the dark to her light. (And the first time I’d heard the coin phrasing, far before BBC Merlin.) He’s just...willing to give everything for her and it’s with this deep acceptance that yup, that’s how it is. Welp. He’ll back her up always, because the thing they have is legitimately described as something entirely different than her romantic love with the lead, and I have always loved that.

I think the thing that draws me to this trope is it’s mix of hopeful and stubborn and fierce. The reason each of them can be even called Steadfast is because they’ve been tested, often again and again, and they refuse to break faith. Even if it would easier. Even if they have competing goals. Even if remaining is to their own detriment. And yet they’re still there, still with their actions screaming their love even if they say absolutely nothing. And the person they’re dedicated to, maybe they’re not the most constant or they make mistakes or they cause suffering to the Steadfast for whatever reason. Still. Still. The Steadfast is there and will always be there.

And they choose to be there.

This is a GOOD QUESTION in that, y’know. What is a canon OTP? (What is a pairing? What is canon? What is ‘is’?) The answer, for this post, is “whatever made it easiest for me to split these into two sets of five”.

CANON OTPs

Aziraphale/Crowley, Good Omens

This is canon. “Fight me”? No need. Fight Michael Sheen.

Don’t say: Hey, have you thought recently about the fact that Crowley’s snakeskin shoes might actually just be his feet?

My “formative” tag on Tumblr is probably overused, but, like. Extremely. Formative. Truly the ur-fandom in terms of my future trope and fic interests. God bless you, weird mid-00s genre experiment broadcast at a particularly impressionable point in my teens.

Do say: Gene Hunt constructs intricate rituals that allow him to touch the skin of other men.

Don’t say: The ending of Ashes to Ashes is canon.

Genuinely wondered whether I should have included this in the canon list. Two sides of the same coin? Merlin's mum desperately trying to get them together about halfway through the first series? “I was born to serve you, Arthur”? As ever, in thinking about this, I’ve just made myself furious again that this objectively fucking stupid children’s TV show remains one of the most emotionally and erotically resonant pieces of media I’ve had the misfortune to consume.

Do say: “I could take you apart with one blow.”

Don’t say: “I could take you apart with less than that.” (It’s been nearly eleven years since this exchange aired on children’s TV and I’m still reeling)

I also have a passionately-planned and half-written epic about the ten years of their evolving relationship from boys 2 men (not the band), and its delicate balance between private interaction and public performance, which I thought I was finally going to finish for the ten-year anniversary of the show last year, but at this rate, might be done in time for the twentieth.

Fraser/Kowalski, due South

Surprise double-entry for JSMN! Except not at all a surprise, because I am into so many aspects of this book and show that I could probably have filled most of the ten entries with JSMN rarepairs. (Please, talk to me about the criminally underexplored sexy class politics of Strange/Childermass.) But anyway, Strange/Grant was, somewhat to my surprise, my takeaway pairing from the TV adaptation.

Do say: “There are any number of magical things my friend could do to prove it,” while looking like you’re about to combust from how excited you are by the prospect.

Don’t say: HE WENT TO VENICE IN A PUDDLE WITH NO GOODBYE (I know)

Again… IS THIS CANON. Explain any single thing that happens in any of the X-Men timelines if this pairing isn’t at LEAST unconsummated canon

Character headcanons for N?

1: sexuality headcanon

Bi/pan, but mostly really really demi. As an aside, I don’t think he ever had a reason to question his gender identity, but if he did he’d likely settle on he/them nonbinary.

2: otp

BWprotag/N. I do prefer isshushipping since that was my playthrough, but ferris is technically the same ship so. Anyway they got so much of ‘two sides of the same coin’ / 'two halves of the same whole’ / 'found the missing part of themselves in each other’ dynamic it literally kills me. Like c'mon you can’t put two characters before my eyes and give them the light and darkness dichotomy and expect me not to ship them. I was not prepared for it, and I never could be, not to say the s word but soulmates…

on the less 'poetic cinema’ note, and because my brain likes to make me feel sad, I keep thinking about N just genuinely liking the protagonist but not having any framework to process the feeling, and his… insistence that the protagonist should become the opposing hero coming from that rather than any actual future vision or whatever. Like, hm I keep thinking about that person, obviously they must be my archnemesis. For an extra punch in the gut: have to wonder how much Ghetsis fed into that line of thinking, and whether or not he was the one to start it even.

Uh that got sad real fast, tl;dr N and protag are soulmates, moving on

3: brotp

Listen N deserves to make so many friends… he deserves a big support network and a lot of people who like the same stuff as him and people who treat him like family and just people who enjoy to hang out with him! But just so I can finish typing this up today… I’ll pick one and give honorary mentions to others, if that’s okay.

So! N and Roark would make good friends and I won’t accept any different! N loves fossil pokemon (he has a bunch if you look at his teams) and has a knack for finding fossils, and coming to Sinnoh he would naturally gravitate towards Oreburgh museum (or Underground first, then museum) and therefore run into Roark, another fossil enthusiast. N also is interested in mechanics / engineering, so he probably would be curious about the mining equipment / process (especially once he makes sure no pokemon are hurt by it) and would love to hear about it from the person who is passionate about it. Basically… they are nerd friends :D it’s good for them both

I already mentioned N and Silver, and N and Gold is also very good, especially since my headcanon version of Gold actually has… quite a few similarities with N? They both trust pokemon more than people, for one. I think Gold would introduce N to Jasmine, and once they go past the initial 'introverts awkwardly waiting for each other to start a conversation’ phase they get along really well, especially when it comes to caring for pokemon. Then there’s Sabrina who has a bit of a similar experience with being different from childhood and people being scared of her abilities…

And then of course there are his Unovan friends, like I’m absolutely sure Cheren considers him a friend and probably so does Bianca, and then there’s BW2 protagonist… aaaand I should go to the next question if I wanna go to sleep today, sorry ^^“

4: notp

I’ve been on the good side of fandom it seems because I hadn’t stumbled into any ships that made me wanna log off yet, but I just wanna announce publicly that I do not want to see N shipped with anyone Plasma or Plasma-adjacent ever in my life and I will scream and bite someone’s ankle if I do.

5: first headcanon that pops into my head

He kinda wants to try changing things about his appearance to reflect his inner changes, but doesn’t feel confident enough to do so until after spending some time back at Unova and reuniting with BW protag. He starts out very small, like wearing jackets/cardigans over his regular clothes, mostly in shades of grey, but in a few years works his way up to bright colors. He still tends to stick with the same outfit for a while, and his taste in color schemes can be unconventional, but he’s much happier with himself as the result.

He also probably gets more stim jewelry because why wouldn’t he! He already wears like 4 stim toys on his body why would this absolute icon stop?

Also open question to everyone. N getting his ears pierced? And getting those long jingly earrings that sound great when you shake your head? y/n?

6: one way in which I relate to this character

I mean uh I still get the creeps when I think about that scene where Ghetsis tears into N because that was uh very recognizable… but let’s never speak of that again…

Other than that I think our speech patterns are fairly similar! Like abandoning one train of thought for another so fast people talking to me get confused… Only have two answer modes: one-word and three-novels… Will stubbornly defend my point of view, possibly in the course of multiple arguments, possibly to the point of combat, then just go 'nah I thought about it and you were right. my bad’…

Also to go back a bit: seeing N wearing all that stim jewelry made me realize that I, not entirely consciously, trained myself out of wearing stuff I could stim with and… I literally… don’t know what the heck did i do that for? So I’ve gone back to wearing it and it made me very happy and I’ve got N to thank for it, so.

7: thing that gives me second hand embarrassment about this character

Not exactly… about him but adjacent: i know ” oo maybe he’s actually… a pokemon :o “ thing comes from things like… some word of god stuff that called him 'a child of pokemon’ and that there are ways to support that theory with canon material but like… given how N is canonically a neurodivergent person (autistic-but-they-dont-actually-say-it-but-it-literally-couldnt-be-more-obvious), and the most visibly canonically neurodivergent character in pokemon (ok im not 100% sure about most but i think he is), arguing that he is actually an animal is…… like, people gotta understand how that’s… not a good look? like actually a very bad look? like. actually a bad thing? That can make someone uncomfortable and/or hurt?Like I wouldn’t call it a second hand embarrassment exactly just a sort of "uh how did this not cross your mind when you went to tackle that topic” feeling :|

8: cinnamon roll or problematic fave?

I’m going with the cinnamon roll. He did his best okay? With the way his situation was he could’ve turned out so much worse but he didn’t and that’s gotta count for something.

king and lionheart - of monsters and men - uhm this is as clear a case as any like eddie is the lionheart and andy is king; yooo like “his crown lit up the way as we moved slowly. past the wandering eyes of the ones that were left behind.” eddie always at andy’s six or in front of him, no matter where, andy guiding him and lighting the way naturally and eddie would follow him anywhere; to hell and back again and again, so long as his king fought, eddie would be there by his side; don’t even get me started on how i could write a dissertation on the lines “and as the world comes to an end, i’ll be here to hold your hand, ‘cause you’re my king and i’m your lionheart”; I MEAN?!?????!!!?; that’s pretty much them; together. forever. side of the same coin. ‘til the end of the line.;;;ffffffffffff i am raging with emotions rn!!!!!!

Why I like them

It is hard to talk about this character when I know so little about him, since he's very new compared to all the others. So be kind if I make assumptions bc it's mostly what we can do for now, I think. For me at least, to take what we canonically know about him for sure doesn't leave much to choose, so I'm doing my own thing a bit 🤷🏻‍♀️

Having said this:

Basically, I like him bc he's complex. He's conflicted, but that's something we've seen before. He's also unstable tho. Really unstable.

But I also like him because I feel like I have a hard time reading him. Like, we know he's unstable, but... Are his actions those of a conflicted (and traumatized and probably brainwashed) child grown up? Or not really? I mostly get the feeling he could be very determined and manipulative under that confused look. That he knows exactly what he's doing even if he looks like a mess with temper tantrums. That he's conflicted and he knows people know that, so he uses that as a disguise, like a wolf in sheep's clothing. Or maybe it isn't that at all. Maybe he's THAT misguided. I guess we'll have to wait for Episode IX to find out more, but for now I like that he keeps me guessing.

Then there is also the fact that troughout the Episodes, we are repeatedly told by the Jedi that one must resist the Dark Side. It is easy to fall and once you do, it forever will dominate your destiny. And I think it's fascinating how Kylo is permanently fighting to stay in it. For someone to show such a struggle with the Dark Side, it could mean an increadibly strong alignment to the Light and/or that he was pushed into the darkness by someone without his consent (hello Snoke) probably by means of an idea in his mind. An idea that was wrong all along: what Vader was supposed to be like. What he was supposed to be too. So he's holding onto the darkness on sheer determination to be that. (Which I find to be very ironic bc if you read my opinion on Anakin I always thought he was conflicted all along, Vader as well. Maybe not just like Ben, but he wasn't like Sheev, that kind of pure evil that Ben seems to think he was.)

To me it all goes down to: would he struggle as much to stay in the Light as he struggles to be in the Dark? How much of it was Snoke's doing? Walking the fine line between the Light and the Dark would make him even more interesting as a character. And it also brings something into the table that I've been waiting for many, many years: actual force balance/the Grey/etc.

So, essentially, what I love the most about his character is all the possibilities he brings to the table and the fact that he's not just a villian, not just a [insert other classic character tropes here].

(I could say the same about Rey in a way, since they are two sides of the same coin. But also not quite the same. And also I'm not here to talk about Rey haha)

Why I don’t

To me it makes no sense his name is Ben unless there's something I missed. I'm still waiting for an explanation that makes it fitting.

(oh and also he's supposed to be 29 and he doesn't feel like it to me? and sometimes I feel confused? lol idk how to explain it bc I don't really know what bugs me, but something feels off 🤷🏻‍♀️ but that's about it, no big deal at all haha)

Favorite episode (scene if movie)

Easy. When he kills Snoke in The Last Jedi. More like, how he does it. I'm a huge fan of the whole deception he plays on him.

And let me say I think he might have had it planned all along when he took that look at the guards while being in the room that time before 👀

Unpopular opinion

The anti's are not morally superior, they are just haters and bullies.

First of all, acting as if Kylo Ren was the devil is non-sense in GFFA. He's not that bad if you compared to so many others lol He's no saint, but why would he have to be? And even if it was denying someone a redemption before he can even claim it or whatever is really, really shitty. So there's no hope then for people to improve? Shouldn't they be encouraged to get better specially if they have been wrong and hurt others? Not discouraged? What kind of shit is that.

And second, shipping him with Rey or whoever is fine even if it was unhealthy. I have seen a million unhealthy ships (some in GFFA too) and no one ever made a big deal because it is no big deal. And this one should be no different. You just want an excuse to hate. Besides, many shippers actually ship them in AUs. So it's not necessarily an unhealthy ship. But in case it was, it's none of your business. And certainly no one deserves the shitty treatment these people give to the shippers. And on top of all of that, I find disgusting that they use something as detrimental as abusive relationships as an excuse to be bullying other fans. WHICH IS ABUSIVE TOO, HELLO. To use your (supposedly) superior morals as the reason to be rightfully allowed to discriminate others is by definition abusive behaviour. And this is real life, not some fictional character's. Really, really ugly shit smh

I hope they don't play the classic redemption arc and stick to the simple usual light vs. darkness thing. Give something more complex, something good, something different. GIVE SOMETHING INSPIRING.

Not bc of the relationship itself. Although I would prefer none of it, I don't know what they are planning and I don't think I know better than the creators, so it could probably be done right in some way if that's really the plan. And who knows, maybe I would enjoy it(?) Butr my taste, the balance of the force should be the plot and I feel this, even as a sub-plot, would overshadow it. So it's a no for me atm.

Sell your ship to someone who knows the manga but isn't invested. A casual fan. Only rule, you can't compare your ship to any other ship or mention another ship at all. This includes using characters to compare. The idea here is to promote your ship focusing only on YOUR LOVE for it. I'm curious how fans will go about this.

I am so sorry about how long it’s taken me to reply! This was something that I wanted to answer properly, so I was waiting for a chance when I was completely free to focus on it. Hopefully you’ll find my answer satisfactory despite the wait.

So I’d like to start this thing off with one simple statement:

Yume is intense.This isn’t a cutesy ‘boy meets the girl next door’ type of relationship, this is a couple with passion, with longing, and with a sensuality to it that I struggle to find in other mangas. It is a ship filled with love, and desire, and it is beyond captivating to see a couple so in love with each other, to the point that almost nothing else matters.

This ship is amazing because Kaname and Yuuki would do anything for each other. They would die for each other, kill for each other, forsake the world for each other… And this intensity and devotion is what makes this ship so enjoyable! Every one of their scenes is filled with such powerful emotions, with love and longing, and all the other feelings I’ve already mentioned, and you can see clear as day just how much they care about one another in each of those scenes.

And to add another layer of intrigue to this couple, their fates have been entwined from start to finish. Kaname saw Yuuki thousands of years before she was even born, and now, Yuuki resides within Kaname as he lives his new life. From beginning to end, whether that be in their lifetimes or in terms of the actual chapter narratives, Kaname and Yuuki have always been together. And as a Yume shipper, it’s a nice feeling to see Hino reinforce their relationship in that way. You start the story with Kaname and Yuuki in the snow, and you end it with Yuuki placing her heart inside of Kaname. Who knows how VKM will end at this point, but Yume’s connection is undeniable. They’ve always been together, and I think it’s beautiful that they always will be.

And that connection is something that you can see in their relationship, particularly in the way that they’re always drawn to each other, and always choose each other. When Kaname goes rogue, Yuuki was so desperate to follow him that she unlocked a new power within herself; after all the evil things Kaname had supposedly done, Yuuki still wanted to go with “[Her] Kaname”; when they were physically fighting each other, trying to subdue or cut the other down, there was a still a tenderness between them that they couldn’t escape. And this is something that is so heart-warming and fulfilling to see, because it doesn’t matter what the other has done, or how much has come between them, Kaname and Yuuki still love each other and will always come back to one another. It’s a devotion that you only see in those ‘classic great love stories’, and it’s what fills their scenes with this amazing sense of longing, and a genuine desire to be together despite everything.

There’s so much love between the two of them, and one really isn’t complete without the other. They’re two sides of the same coin, Yin & Yang, light and dark, and that duality is just so interesting to me, because although they have their differences, they really can’t help but be drawn to each other. And all of this just makes their romance all the more heart-breaking, because by all means, this is a couple that should be together. They love each other like we’ve seen no other couple in VK do, and even after a thousand years apart, that love and connection is still there.

Time makes no difference, other people make no difference; nothing can stop them from feeling the way they do for each other. And the fact that their feelings are so consistent is another thing that I really enjoy about this ship. From beginning to end, Kaname has always loved Yuuki, and Yuuki has always loved Kaname. And even when they’re furthest apart or at their lowest point, you never question their feelings for each other because nothing can break that bond that they share.

Yume is one of the most interesting and compelling ships I’ve ever come across, and it’s their complexity and intensity that makes them my absolute OTP. There’s so much to this ship, and I hope that somewhere in this mess of an answer, I was able to convey just how amazing and unique this couple is.

And whilst I know that there are a lot of haters for this ship, Kaname and Yuuki still love each other despite everything. So why should we give a damn about what the haters say lol.

I don't have to reveal myself to you--you've made who you are perfectly clear. You're scum of the earth.

Ok. I’m going to try to take this point by point.

I never, ever said that that rape was okay. I would never in a million years claim that, why are you putting words in my mouth? I specifically said that, from my reading of the scene, it was not rape. This is the transcript:

The balcony is basically deserted. Buffy leans on the railing and looks down. Shot of the dance floor full of happy dancing people, including the Scoobies.

Buffy watches them, with a sad smile.

SPIKE: (O.S.) You see ... you try to be with them...

Spike walks up behind Buffy.SPIKE: ...but you always end up in the dark ... (whispering in her ear) ...with me.

SPIKE: What would they think of you ... if they found out ... all the things you've done?

Watching that scene, I was trying to see if it reminded me of my sexual abuse. Honestly, it didn’t, but that doesn’t mean that it didn’t for someone else. That’s what we were trying to say that different people read the same scene with different eyes. I see it as Buffy being with one of the only people who actually understand her, but whom she knows will never be accepted by her friends in a million years, hence the perceived hesitation. If you see that scene and it reminds you of something completely different, that is your prerogative.

The bolded part is the one that makes the whole scene, in my opinion. He hit on her before this, in previous seasons, and she rebuffed him each and every time. She was not the most balanced in this season, which I mentioned before, but the fact that you claim that she was completely at his mercy and he was taking advantage of her for months is erasing everything Buffy is.

Buffy was traumatized. She was frozen. It is a scene that is paralleled earlier with her freezing while fighting. Spike is taking advantage of her and deliberately making her feel like shit.

Again, I’m sorry, but I just don’t see it like that. That whole season, Buffy was caught between two states, numbness and adrenaline, life and death, heaven and hell. You’re blaming Spike for everything wrong with her, without considering the fact that she was brought back from heaven by the some of the people she trusted most, and when she couldn’t turn to them because she didn’t want to hurt them, she went to him. If you want to see every action he makes as manipulative, then that’s on you. There are 4 seasons prior to this where their relationship was built, and I am not even talking about romance at this point. They are two sides of the same coin, but what strikes me most about this phrase as a non-native English speaker is that, in the end, it’s still the same coin.

There are so many parallels between them that I can’t even name them all. They’re both heavily influences by their feelings/desires, almost selfishly so in some cases. They both love to fight, to be challenged. They both let the people they love most influence their whole life, the Scoobies for Buff, Dru and then Buffy for Spike. They can both be assholes and complete vulnerable at the same time and, for me at least, they are some of the most real characters I’ve seen on the screen. They fight, they cry, they laugh, they feel so damn much.

And now, to the final points:

Throughout our “talks”, I have never called you names or talked in this manner to you. Again, I would appreciate if we could talk on private, if you want to debate some more. If not, that’s fine by me.

At the end of the day, we are talking about two fictional characters from a TV show that ended more than 10 years ago. It’s fine to have different opinions about them, but to attack me personally because I think differently than you makes no sense. You do realize that it doesn’t matter how many names you call me, I’m not going to suddenly see the light, right?

Spuffy was one of my first OTPs, I loved how they grew and developed over the seasons and reading fics or seeing fanart of them always makes me happy. They will always have a place in my heart, and them and the show helped me get through some personal stuff, for which i will always enjoy and cherish it. If you don’t feel the same, then there are plenty of methods to avoid it online. I just don’t understand what you gain from trying to make us feel like shit for loving something you hate?

Okay, so, since no numbers were indicated, I went ahead and did all of them. Get ready for 3k+ words of headcanons, lol.

Who is the most affectionate?Yang, especially at first. Blake and Weiss are more apt to be affectionate in private and they gradually become more affectionate in public as their relationship progresses. Yang still holds the title as most overtly affectionate, while Weiss and Blake tend for more subtle methods.

Big spoon/Little spoon?Yang spoons Blake, Blake spoons Weiss, if they’re all sleeping on their sides, which is usually the case in smaller beds not designs to hold three people. In their bed, however, they usually sleep with Yang in the middle, Blake on Yang’s right, and Weiss on Yang’s left. Not only does it allow them to see both of their partners first thing when they wake up, but they can all touch each other, which helps them sleep. (It’s a bit inconvenient when Yang has to pee in the middle of the night, though. She usually wakes up and debates whether or not to wake up one or the other, and then they wake up anyway because she’s squirming trying to hold it in.)

Most common argument?Transportation. It stems from them wanting to make sure everyone is equally part of the relationship and no one feels like a third wheel, but long drives can kinda put a hamper in that, so their method of transportation becomes more of an argument than a simple rearrangement. At first, they use Yang’s bike to get around, and while Blake and Weiss have no issues with the bike itself- it is rather nice- using it is hard for the three of them. Early in their relationship, Yang got a side car so it could transport all three, but that still left one sitting in the side car while the other gets to ride on the bike. Weiss and Blake then want to get a car, but that turns into a headache seeing as they all have different tastes when it comes to vehicles. Eventually, Blake and Weiss cave and the triad get a black McLaren F1 with yellow and white racing stripes, which works for a while until the twins are born, and then the hunt for a vehicle begins anew.

Favorite non-sexual activity?Yang’s a total cuddle bug, Weiss likes playing with Blake’s ears and Yang’s hair, and Blake likes reading to both of them, especially when they’re sleepy. Together, they like watching old movies, putting them on mute, and then ad-libbing lines in an effort to see who can make the others laugh first. They usually making it to about the thirty minute mark before someone breaks and then they just riff on the flick for the rest of the night; helps destress after a mission or when things are looking dark.

Who is most likely to carry the other?Much to their chagrin, Yang’s the only one capable of carrying the other two without stumbling. Yang’s almost pure muscle and taller, so it takes a bit of coordinated effort to pick her up, but she can lift Blake and Weiss no problem.

What is their favorite feature of their partner’s?Blake’s are Weiss’ eyes and Yang’s smile; both are incredibly expressive, but it takes time to really get to know both women to understand and tell the difference between sincere emotion and a facade, as Weiss and Yang are prone to covering their concerns, though for different reasons (Blake has the same problem but her ears often give her away). Weiss’ are Blake’s hands and Yang’s shoulders; she admires the metaphorical and literal strength in both and associates her partners’ attitudes with those features, Blake often taking control of things (even if her definition of ‘control’ sometimes means ‘running away’ and Yang shouldering blame and concerns to protect those closest to her). Yang’s are a bit bittersweet- her favorites are her partners’ scars; they’re constant reminders of the lives Weiss and Blake led before they met and eventually started dating and while she’s grateful the events shaped both of them into strong, capable people, it’s also a constant reminder that she’s not going to let anyone else hurt them like that. Meanwhile, they tend to have the same #2 slot; Blake and Weiss can agree they are both huge fans of Yang’s arms, Blake and Yang adore Weiss’ hips, and Weiss and Yang love Blake’s legs.

What’s the first thing that changes when they realize they have feelings for the other?lol, This is kinda the plot for Partners, no? Anyway, in contrast to my Monochrome reply, I think they’d become extremely conscious of how much they interacted with each other. The protectiveness would still be present- Blake and Yang would get miffed with anyone disrespecting Weiss’ opinion or voice (within reason, of course, because Weiss does say some shit every now and again), Weiss and Yang would take any slight against Faunus personally (they’d handle it in their own ways, with Weiss staring fuckers down or chewing them out and Yang punching them through the nearest wall), and Blake and Weiss would not tolerate any disparaging remarks about Yang’s looks or intelligence (the only reason Neon walks out of the doubles round alive is because there’s too many cameras around)- but Yang and Blake might distance themselves from each other a bit and Weiss would hang out with Ruby more often. Everyone has their own levels of perception, so while Yang might spend equal time with Blake and Weiss, one or the other might pick up on her feelings, and the last thing she’d want to do is catch one’s attention without the other even suspecting, because that would make the whole explanation really awkward, and the other two feel the same way. All three of them would turn into awkward dorks around each other, and Blake and Yang would try to minimize it because they’re partners.

Nicknames? & if so, how did they originate?For Weiss, Yang and Blake call her 'Princess’ because it does fit her personality quite well, but Ruby get credit for coining the name. They’d also call her something more intimate in private- like 'Snowfall’, something that acknowledges her family heritage and all the baggage that comes with it while affirming that it doesn’t change their affections for her and she still has the power to affect how that heritage is viewed. For Blake, 'Kitten’ is used only in private and 'Blakey’, though most often by Yang while Weiss prefers 'Love’. In the same vein, 'Kitten’ acknowledges Blake’s Faunus heritage and both of her girlfriends are careful that the moniker is only associated with expressing their deep affection while 'Blakey’ and 'Love’ offer the bit of discretion Blake is accustomed to maintaining. For Yang, there’s a lot, and they’re usually jokes of some manner- 'Pheonix’ for when she does something self-destructive but miraculously walks away from, 'Dragon’ when her temper gets the better of her, Weiss will use 'Muscles’ when she’s spending more time talking and less time accomplishing a task, that sort of thing. But, in an intimate setting, 'Sunburst’ and 'Fallen Star’ are often used, both referring to Yang’s abundant energy and bright personality.

Who worries the most?Weiss, of course. She has two separate lists for Blake and Yang alone, and then another list for when their together of all the things that could happen. Without them knowing, she often inspects their weapons and gear herself, just to put the doubts at rest.

Who remembers what the other one always orders at a restaurant?Blake. It makes her happy to remember little details like that whenever she’s down or missing the others, so she pays close attention whenever they go out to eat; she even notices when they use salt, pepper, or spices on which meals or which moods correspond with different types of food. She’s also got a hidden stash of Atlesian chocolate and those fireball candies for whenever her partners need a little pick-me-up.

Who tops?They take turns, to an extent, but it typically goes Weiss, Yang, Blake in terms of most dominant. Blake prefers relinquishing control to her partners, Yang’s more than willing to put her strength to use or keep herself still to aid her partners, and Weiss most often just wants to personally ensure both of her girlfriends enjoy themselves.

Who initiates kisses?At first, Yang, purely because she’s just too damn happy to have both Blake and Weiss with her that she can’t always control the impulse. Blake quickly matches her, with Weiss growing accustomed to it slowly. Still, even in the later parts of their relationship, Yang’s the most prone to go for a kiss without prompting.

Who reaches for the other’s hand first?Blake. She’s most inclined towards discreet methods of showing affection in public, so she’d be the first to interlace fingers. Weiss might beat her to the punch in private, though, and Yang would probably go for a kiss first instead.

Who kisses the hardest?Weiss, though it’s mostly because of the height difference. Blake and Yang like to tease her sometimes, so she’s gotten into the habit of pulling them down to her and giving them ample reason to not pull away. It’s quite effective.

Who wakes up first?Blake. The superb hearing in her Faunus ears means she’s a light sleeper already, so she usually is the first one to wake up while the other two try to stay asleep. Unless she’s exhausted, of course. Still, she’ll feign being asleep until one or the other wakes up and sometimes until they’re both up; she tries not to monopolize the first good morning kiss, though it is tempting.

Who wants to stay in bed just a little longer?Weiss always advocates for sleeping in when there aren’t classes or other pressing matters demanding their attention that day; she’d much rather stay in bed with her girlfriends than deal with the outside world, and there’s enough things demanding their presence independent of one another that any stolen moments they can get together is worth holding onto, in her mind. However, if they have to get up for something, Yang’s usually the last to relent while Blake plays the middle ground, usually striking a compromise to keep them all happy without making them late.

Who says I love you first?Yang. Blake and Weiss have their own personal issues with expressing affection but, if there’s one thing Summer’s sudden death and Raven’s abandonment taught her, it was that you can’t tell the people you care about how much they mean to you often enough. Especially with how crazy their lives have been, she wouldn’t want to risk Weiss or Blake ever doubting how much she cares about them, so she’d say it often and sincerely. She tries to downplay how much the lack of reciprocation affects her- she understands that both of her girlfriends need time to really be comfortable with saying those words- but she would still tell them she loves them often, just so they never have to question it.

Who leaves little notes in the other’s one lunch? (Bonus: what does it usually say?)Yang; she used to do the same for Ruby when she was younger and some habits are hard to break. She also gets a kick out of watching her girlfriend’s reactions. (“C'mon, Blakey, don’t frown! You can’t have tuna every day! But if you eat all your lunch, you’ll get a nice dessert tonight! ;)” “No, Princess, you don’t need a knife and fork to eat a PB & J, just use the napkin or ask me to clean you up! ;)” Blake and Weiss try to deny how much they enjoy Yang’s teasing.)

Who tells their family/friends about their relationship first?By default, Yang; Ruby is part of their team, after all, and would be the first person informed about their relationship. Between Blake and Weiss, though, Blake manages to get a message down to Menagerie… and then further explains herself two weeks later when Ghira and Kali show up, because like hell they’re just going to wait at home now that they know a) where their daughter is and b) that she’s dating.

What do their family/friends think of their relationship?Yang’s family is entirely supportive, though Qrow has some misgivings about Weiss. He mostly keeps them to himself so Yang can be happy; his beef is mostly with Winter, anyway. Taiyang’s warily happy that Yang’s found two people she cares so much about. He’s concerned she’ll make the same mistakes he did, despite their differing circumstances, but let’s her do it anyway. Only way she’ll really learn if things go south is to not interfere at all, he figures, and he treats Blake and Weiss like family until that worry fades away completely. Blake’s family is split at first; Kali is supportive but Ghira needs to be won over a bit. Honestly, Kali’s a bit too supportive and has to be told to stop with her 'suggestions’ while Yang gets Ghira’s approval after a bit of joking around and roughhousing and Weiss wins him over after the two butt heads over SDC policies- she turns out to be more progressive than he’d given her credit for, and manages to be both forceful and respectful, which will be needed when it comes to affecting change. Once he gives them the chance, Ghira becomes genuinely fond of Yang and Weiss, seeing as they both put in noticeable effort to make his daughter happy, and he welcomes them with open arms after that. Weiss, on the other hand, only has Winter for support; her father rejects the relationship entirely, her brother isn’t about to get in the middle of this, and her mother… yeah. We’re not going into that. Winter, at least, is glad her sister’s found her own way in the world that seems to be leading her to happiness. She could do without being indirectly related to Qrow, but, she’s willing to make that sacrifice for her sister.

Who is more likely to start dancing with the other?Weiss. She didn’t get a chance to at the school dance so, after one off hand remark about ballroom dancing, takes it upon herself to teach Yang and Blake a few different styles. She usually sings along with the music, too, and they eventually create their own style of dancing that works for most waltzing songs but allows all three of them to move together, and they’ll hum along with the music.

Who cooks more/who is better at cooking?Yang, mainly thanks to Summer and Ruby. She teaches Weiss and Blake some of Summer’s and Taiyang’s old recipes but usually takes on cooking duty herself; it’s as relaxing as going a few rounds against a heavy bag, but with a better result. She’s also more than a little proud when she can get one or both of her girlfriends to moan without even touching them, and good food is one way to make that happen.

Who comes up with cheesy pick up lines?Again, Yang- it’s like breathing for her- while Blake is prone to quoting her *ahem* romance novels. Weiss tries and usually fails to land the delivery just right, but Yang and Blake both think that’s too damn cute, so it works in her favor.

Who whispers inappropriate things in the other’s ear during inappropriate times?Weiss- and she’s gotten better at using the smallest amount of words to produce the maximum effect as time goes on. Yang’s too loud to try and Blake’s more tactile- a brush of her fingertips as they pass is more her style.

Who needs more assurance?All of them need assurance, for varying reasons, but Weiss needs slightly more. While she always expected, to some degree, that her relationship with her father would deteriorate at some point, losing the security of her family is still a blow that shakes her up. Add to that how often she feels like she’s playing catch up when it comes to expressing her emotions, telling Blake and Yang how much she cares about them, and allowing herself to be open and honest with them- it’s only natural for her to doubt her choices and actions, second guess herself, and have the worst outcomes plague her mind.

What would be their theme song?“Under Pressure” by Queen and David Bowie. (Yang will often joke that “3” by Britney Spears is their favorite song; Blake usually laughs while Weiss rolls her eyes and calls her crass.)

Who would sing to their child back to sleep?Weiss usually sings to the kids to get them to sleep; Yang’s singing usually makes them too hyper to go to bed, because she picks high tempo, driving rock songs instead of lullabies. Blake only sings very rarely, so they end up listening too intently to be lulled to sleep.

What do they do when they’re away from each other?Weiss tends to either spend her time practicing her combat technique or scrutinizing the business news but, when she’s looking to relax, she’ll put on some classical music or an old movie to unwind. Sometimes, Neptune will come over and they’ll joke about who’s more pretentious- the characters in the movie or Neptune himself- or they’ll mock depictions of stereotypes together. Blake usually reads, either at home curled up in her favorite chair by the window or down at the park, sitting in a huge tree and occasionally people watching. Every now and then, she and Sun will grab a meal to catch up or volunteer down at a homeless shelter. Yang goes out for solo rides on Bumblebee or takes a round with a heavy bag, depending on her mood. Otherwise, she and Nora will go clubbing just so they can be loud and have fun. If one of them’s busy and the other two are free, Blake and Weiss will usually find a book shop where Blake can find a new book and Weiss can read the paper, Weiss and Yang often play video games either head-to-head or cooperatively, and Blake and Yang go for a run.

one headcanon about this OTP that breaks your heartIn any universe where Yang loses her arm, she’ll feel guilty whenever holding/hugging/touching her girlfriends, because only one of them can feel her at any given time; the other just has her prosthetic, which isn’t the same. It really impacts her self image and her perceived worth as a good girlfriend to both of them, something that takes years for her to fully comes to terms with and tears her apart emotionally until then.

one headcanon about this OTP that mends itBecause of the way their respective histories have shaped them, all three understand that loving someone else- or two someones- means accepting the present and the past in order to build a future together. It’s an all-or-nothing package. Regardless of what each has individually lost, there’s two people who care about them, and those feelings are returned. It doesn’t replace what was lost but what emerges is all the stronger for it.
