because it's the perfect characterisation of my ultimate otp - a brave, feral snape whose betrayal of voldemort [weighed down by the long shadow of catholic guilt, which is relatable of him...] actually means something - told in spare, beautiful prose:

it was unlikely that lucius could contribute any advice to my problem. i was planning to betray a madman who wanted to kill a newborn babe. that i happened to fiercely love said madman contributed complexity to the case.

because it's an exquisite demonstration of what love actually is - not the grand sacrifices to save the world which harry gets up to in canon, but the bittersweet tenderness of choosing each other despite everything.

because what life must be like for the hogwarts ghosts - year after year stretching out before them - is something i love seeing explored in fics, and this does a remarkable job of linking the monotony of the bloody baron's existence to the loneliness and grief of snape's own. plus, it is, in its own little way, a story of true love:

"why weren't you afraid of me?" he asked, gathering that boy in his arms. he really would have to remember to start using his name; he couldn't very well call him "that boy" for the rest of eternity.

"you know why."

because i love prongsfoot and its inherent tragedy, and the growing horror as you realise where this piece is going - even in so few words - is visceral:

even on a cold autumn morning, everything about james reminds me of summertime. he’s tanned, warm and restless. he uses shampoo which smells like coconuts. it reminds me of that time in brighton, when the pebbles were hot with sunshine and smooth and hard beneath our feet. we ran into the sea while the waves crashed over us. i pushed him, and he pushed me back until we were both laughing like we’d never stop, and his kisses tasted like ocean spray.

Bright, early mornings in the summer always brought a calming solace for Liam. As he jogged along the coastline of the private, secluded beach near the Capital, the sunshine and cool sea breeze invigorated him and allowed for clarity of thought; a guilty pleasure that he took for himself. Listening to calming music through his ear buds, and with the steady pace of his jog, his thoughts eventually turned to the conversation that he had had with his brother the previous evening. Liam shook his head, remembering with regret how the phone conversation quickly got heated... 

‘Leo, are you trying to tell me that I need to give this woman, this stranger, the benefit of the doubt?”

All I am saying Liam, is that our father turned his back on his own daughter, on your sister, my half sister.

Oh, in that case you are trying to tell me that I am just like our father?!  

This woman threatened my daughter, stalked my wife, told you that she wanted my throne because she felt that I was not worthy of it. 

And what, I should just let her have access to me and to my family without consequence? 

Are you insane?! '

Liam stopped abruptly, not realizing his calming jog had turned into a fast-paced run. He bent over, slowing down his breathing as he swept the sweat from his brow.  

 The sunshine glinted off the bows of the yachts docked at the marina just up ahead as he looked up. Chuckling to himself, he realized how far and fast he ran. 

This argument had swiftly spiraled into a shouting match and ended with Liam curtly ending that conversation. 

Shaking his head, he chastised himself, thinking that when he returned to the palace, he needed to call Leo to further explain his reasoning and to apologize for the conversation getting out of hand.

Of course, he was curious, and wanted answers from this woman, his ‘sister’. What he really needed was answers from his father.  

Why did he not embrace his own flesh and blood? Why?  

Why would he knowingly abandon his child?  

Why keep this child away from him?  

Was his father’s paranoia the reason?  

These are missing pieces to this puzzle that confounded him. Should he give her the benefit of a doubt? Yes, he can. However, there are qualified Interpol Inspectors that are trained to vet situations like this.  

His responsibility, no... his duty was to protect his queen and family at all costs. Which makes it a critical priority to keep this woman physically away from Cordonia’s borders. 

Liam made a mental note to call back Olivia and Inspector Cossoy back to the capital, once Lena was secured in Lyon, France. 

Picking up his jog again, he continued at a steady pace, changing his thoughts to the upcoming celebration ball being held at the palace on Saturday. Deciding to formally invite Amalas, he was sure that his brother would follow her back to Cordonia. That would be the perfect opportunity to extend an olive branch. 

“Li, hold up.” Drake appeared walking on the dock, interrupting his thoughts. 

“Hey, Drake, good morning.” Liam slowed to a stop, turning to greet his friend.  

“Welcome back, how was your trip?” This being the first conversation that the friends had since their talk; Liam was curious about how his trip to the U.S. played out. 

“Pretty good, all things considered.” Drake acknowledged. 

“Delaney’s parents were very welcoming. Her older brother, not so much.” 

“Oh, oh! That must have been uncomfortable, what did you do?” Liam joked, clapping Drake on the back. 

“He was asking me more questions about my intentions than her father did.” Drake rolled his eyes, shaking his head. 

“It made me wonder what Laney told him about me.” 

“Why would she disparage you?” 

Drake ran his hand down his face, sighing, “we had an argument just before we left the hotel to meet her family at the restaurant. She seems to think that I am afraid of commitment.” 

Liam looked at his friend, “well, she may have a point there.” 

“Not you too,” Drake complained. “I just like my space.” 

“Yes, well, it sounds like she wants a future with you, Drake, and that means compromise.” 

Groaning, “I get that, Li, it's just that.... Drake paused and exhaled loudly, closing his eyes. 

Liam noticed the tells of Drake’s nervousness and stopped to look directly at his friend. 

For whatever reason, Drake was having a rough time returning eye contact. 

Without looking up, Drake reached into his backpack that was slung over his shoulder. 

“I have something for you. It is an invitation for you and Riley.” 

Surprised, Liam reached for the sealed envelope. “This? An invitation for what?  

Drake, speaking very quietly, “well, I don’t want to spoil the surprise... But it is something incredibly special from Delaney and I.” 

Liam’s eyes narrowed suspiciously, reading the look on Drake’s face as apprehensive. 

“Delaney and I have come to an agreement.” Drake looked everywhere but did not return Liam’s questioning gaze. 

“We have decided to set up roots, here, in Cordonia, as a couple.” 

“Really? What happened to change her mind about moving back to Austin?”  

“We came to a compromise.”   

This piqued Liam’s curiosity. “What exactly did you agree to?” 

“In your hand, Li, is a wedding invitation.” Drake revealed, his eyes not looking up from the ground. 

“Well, well, well...this is, a surprise. Congratulations, my friend! Riley will be delighted to hear this.” 

Still looking at the ground, Drake nodded, “thank you, Liam.” 

Furrowing his brows, Liam looked at his friend in confusion, not saying a word. 

“Watching you with Brooks, all these years.... I want that too.” Drake spoke hesitantly. 

It wasn’t lost on Liam; the meaning behind those words. Knowing that Drake had feelings for Riley, once upon a time, that had sparked during his social season. Confessed feelings that still lingered for Drake, but feelings that were never returned by Riley. 

“Pretending to be happy is pretty damn exhausting,” Drake confessed.

Royal Boutique, Cordonian Palace 

Eleanor squealed, “mommy, look at all the pretty dresses! I want that one! Oh, oh, look at this one! Mommy, pleeease, may I have both?” 

It was the Friday before the Celebration Ball at the Palace. Promising her daughter, the particularly important grown-up task of choosing her formal wear, Riley watched her little girl excitedly choose two dresses to try. 

“Well, Ellie, since you can only wear one dress to the ball tomorrow, the other dress you can wear to the next event. Choose the one that you think fits the purpose of having this ball.” 

Eleanor tapped her finger to her chin, debating her choice.  

“You handled that situation perfectly, your majesty.” Riley’s personal assistant, Claire, whispered. 

“Mommy, I have decided.” 

Riley looked expectantly at her daughter. 

“These dresses are wrong,” Eleanor answered. “These dresses aren’t blue.” 

Claire grinned watching Riley’s reaction, as Ellie plucked the blue dress from the rack to try on, leaving the other selections behind. 

Shaking her head with a smile, Riley resumed looking through the ball gowns in the boutique. It was time to find a gown that would fit her now rapidly changing body and her personal assistant suggested an A-line pastel yellow tulle ball gown with an embellished plunging neckline. 

Gazing at her reflection in the full-length mirror she smiled as she felt flutters in her tummy. The twins were very active in their daily movements tucked securely inside her body. 

“Claire, this is the one.” Riley called out to her assistant from the dressing room. 

Hearing the dressing room door click behind her, Riley was delighted when she felt Liam’s strong arms wrap around her; clearly not Claire. 

Riley closed her eyes, when she felt his lips kiss her ear. 

“Mm mm... what did you do with my assistant?” Riley tittered. 

“I sent her away. You have me to attend to your needs.” Liam responded, kissing down her neck. 

“In that case, what do you think of this gown? Do you think the bodice is too revealing?” 

“I love your curves. I think it’s one of the best things about you.” 

Giggling, Riley playfully swatted his arm. “Liam, I am serious!” 

“I am too, love.... You are ravishing.”

Monterrisian Royal Palace 

The unmarked black SUV passed through the palace side gate as Alex and Olivia watched. Lena was being transported out of the country by Interpol today. 

Once Lena arrives at the Interpol headquarters in France, she will be given a psychological evaluation and be officially charged for her crimes.

Alex overheard Leo's question for Olivia...

“She did not look happy, but at least she wasn’t resisting or trying to escape.” Olivia answered Leo on her cell speakerphone. 

"Good to hear. Amalas notified Liam this morning about the transfer."

"Are the two of you planning to attend the celebration ball tomorrow?"

Olivia was well aware of the 'conversation' between the brothers.

Agreeing with Liam, Olivia was very vocal about her position to Leo after their conversation ended.

"Yes, Liv, I will go but I am going solo."

Olivia looked at Alex, raising her brow, and answering Leo.

"This will be an interesting evening,"

Tagged by @messiahzzz – thank you! I don’t think I’ve ever really talked about Tynera on my blog, but I did promise myself I would share more of my creations in 2024, soooo...

A quick rundown – she’s a seldarine drow who turned her back on Lolth when she found her way to the cult of Lathander, and subsequently became a cleric of his.

In BG3, she chooses to see the tadpole as a test to show that she can persevere through adversity and bring light and new beginning to the darkness, as Lathander teaches. She made generally “good” choices and romanced Lae’zel. As of the epilogue, the two of them are living together close to where Shadowheart made her cottage, raising Xan as their son and supporting the liberation of the Githyanki people from afar.

- OTP: Lae’zel/Tynera — it started as a fling, but honestly neither of them is made for casual arrangements. Tynera fell very quickly for Lae’zel’s resilience and devotion. It takes longer for Lae’zel to allow herself to recognise her feelings, but once she does, she melts into Tynera's warmth like a cat basking in a ray of sunshine.

Lae’zel calls Tynera, as in canon, “zhak vo'nfynh duj” – my joy. Tynera calls Lae’zel “sussun ussta” – my light.

- Acceptable Ships: none.  

- OT3: see above – Tynera would probably be open to having sex with others, but she respects Lae’zel’s wishes for exclusivity. On an emotional level, she is also monogamous.

-  Gale/Tynera— they are both fairly passionate in their respective fields and are glad that they don’t have to hold back in the other’s presence. Gale’s more relaxed level-headedness helps Tynera shed some of her more impulsive and judgemental tendencies. Likewise, Gale basks in Tynera’s unwavering support and affection.

- Shadowheart/Tynera — In the beginning, they butt heads a lot, since their gods are explicit enemies. Over the course of the game, they start to realise that they have much more in common than sets them apart. Shadowheart helps Tynera find ways to incorporate her faith in their daily lives, when they are in the shadow-cursed lands, where it’s difficult to perform sun-related rituals. They also share a taste for the macabre.

- Notp: none, she gets along with almost anyone. Though, now that I’ve finished her PT, I don’t think it makes sense for her to end up with anyone of the companions but Lae’zel.

5. something you see in fics a lot and love

That's, ooo, that's tough, since I don't have much spare time and I mostly spend it writing mine instead of reading. Thinking back on my favorite moments, though, I think hurt/comfort is my jam. Heartache, heartbreak, hyperventilation, gimme pain, gimme panic, gimme people barely holding together putting one foot in front of the other even when the person they lean on isn't there, I wanna see what my faves are made of and I want it to hurt!

7. your favorite tropes to read/write/draw

Damn, might've blown my load a bit early there! X'D I'm not super familiar with the functionally infinite catalog of tropes, though, so... hm, had to ask my beautiful beta readers for suggestions - aaand we immediately got on a tangent about Wide Screen Farquaad and started cackling like goons, okay!! Er!!! Now that I think about it, Found Family is in everything I'm writing. My Animal Crossing story features a lot of Tom Nook's relationship with Timmy and Tommy, my MHA story centers around if Tomura was adopted by Principal Nezu instead of All for One, my Final Fantasy Tactics Advance story is all about Marche gathering a family of adventurers with Montblanc - it's an important part of everything I'm writing. Okay the giggles have stopped and one of my betas insists that "furries adopting children" is the Most Important but I don't think that's actually a trope, thanks sis-

9. a ship that isn’t your OTP but that you enjoy

Oh, um, hrm, fuck, I have. So many OTP's. So that complicates things! I love them all so much!! I think the best fit is Sonadow, thanks to @shadows-coffeebeans - I'm not totally in love with it (yet), but I do enjoy it quite a bit!!!

11. if you’re a writer or artist, what fic or piece of art are you proud of making?

I'm actually really proud of all the things I'm writing lately! =D Got three novel-length fics in the fire, really love how they're turning out!! None of them are er, out yet, though, besides an MHA one-shot I posted last April. I haven't started posting them because I don't want to be discouraged by lack of readers. I will once they're done (except the MHA one, I will start posting that when the final episode of the anime airs), but until then, they only exist as google docs for folks that wanna beta read.

14. the ship that always makes you smile

All of the ones I love do! But by far the one that gets the most content, and thus the constant deluge of smiles, is Sam & Max. Ship is called Freelance Husbands, I adore how dedicated the fandom is, and it always fills my heart with sugar and sunshine, especially even when it's angsty~!

Hanabi Hyūga/Konohamaru Sarutobi

Is Boruto good? Debatable. I'm not here to argue this point. All I'll say, is their drunk scene set sail to the ship for me and many others.

Their dynamic is just one I'm a fan of. Hanabi embodies gremlin, Konohamaru embodies golden retriever. Unhinged woman x man who is desperately in love with her is my absolute favorite. They're big bro and big sis. They're of the same generation. They undoubtedly hung out at some point, or even went to school together or on missions. They both love Boruto (and we have to assume Himawari) to death, as shown by this scene. Both come from powerful, prestige clans, held on a pedestal.

I just love them together. I just know Konohamaru is down bad for her and Hanabi is doing her best to not be the gremlin she is deep down and wants to give in to being crazy in love. This is my true OTP, I'll never give up on them <3 I hope you enjoy my works for them.

Three ships: Oh gosh, I'm not much of a shipper, but when I do, I ship HARD.

Entrapdak (Entrapta/Hordak) - Where do I even begin? They're perfect for eachother, the truest sunshine/grumpy ship, evil scientists in love, Entrapta teaching Hordak to have his own identity and that imperfrction is beautiful!! Hordak being somebody Entrapta can really connect to, that understands what she's saying and wants to hear more!! They love being around eachother so much, no wonder Hordak committed fratricide/deicide/patricide for her! Also the height difference and him being a monster and she's a human and just aaaaaaa I KNOW imperfection is beautiful but DAMN is this ship just perfect!!!!

Huntlow (Hunter/Willow) - If I had a nickel for every time I somehow ended up shipping a het-passing ship between a pathetic, menacing-at-first but-really-just-an-angsty-dork clone with an abusive creator with a strong and intelligent woman that struggles with vulnerablity and being othered and has pigtails in a show where the main ship isn't het, I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird that it's happened twice! Their dynamic makes me so happy!! I love their characters!! They're so cute together!!

Trobed (Troy/Abed) - Fuck it. Trobed time. Can be an OTP AND a BROTP!! I don't even know what to say these guys were made for eachother and I will forever be upset about them being separated. Community movie please just bring them back together again I'm begging. Troys got homing pigeon DNA now he must be compelled to come back PLEASE.

Shadowpeach for 1 and Sandy for 2?

When I started shipping it if I did: Probably when I first joined the fandom? I think I started shipping it pretty early on, and I watched the entire series with @skittlescripts within two days. I think I thought about it during the Macaque episode (and according to a pic i took, I watched it on Oct 7, 2022) and it probably got solidified in Shadow Play (which I watched either the same day or the next day) or during the s3 specials. So I've been shipping it fully since the second week of October 2022. Bet you weren't expecting an exact date lmao

My thoughts: I LOVE IT. I know a lot of people don't really ship it, and that's fine. It's not for everyone. But I've always loved their dynamic. ESPECIALLY with their history. Maybe that's just the angst writer in me tho

What makes me happy about them: Their bickering. Idk why, but I love the fics that have them going back and forth with no real heat in their insults. It's their love language <3

What makes me sad about them: Their history with each other. How both of them lost each others trust. How Macaque wants Wukong to hurt the way he does. How Wukong regrets what he did but doesn't know how to say it. They are both so extremely sad, and I love them for it.

Things done in fanfic that annoys me: Uhhhh I honestly have no idea? I've been thinking about it through the days and I just can't think of one. Maybe Macaque being purely bad? But I think that ties more into me liking soft mac and hating hurt no comfort. But idk.

Things I look for in fanfic: TEARS. FLUFF. FORGIVENESS. ANGST AND PAIN, BOTH PHYSICAL AND EMOTIONAL. Give me Wukong protecting Macaque without a second thought. Give me Macaque taking a hit for Wukong out of habit but not regretting it. Give me one or both of them going to MK for advice cuz they don't know how to handle their feelings. GIVE ME THE GAY MONKEYS BEING GROSSLY IN LOVE.

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other:  Macaque - Tang. Inkypages is very cute to me and I love it Wukong - uhhh... I don't really know, actually. I don't think I ship him with anyone else? Maybe Tang as well? I'm also chill with him and Tripitaka, but only sometimes.

My happily ever after for them: They finally talk things out and move on. Macaque moves back to FFM, they both don't use their glamours anymore (at the very least not around each other) and they just live the retired life they deserve. Getting fat off fruit till the end of forever 🥺

Who is the big spoon/little spoon: I think they switch from time to time. Wukong likes being big spoon though. And I hc that Wukong runs hot and Macaque runs cold, so Mac is def little spoon during winter.

What is their favorite non-sexual activity: Honestly, I can see them really liking just sun bathing in the grass together. Just them, the sunshine, and a slight breeze.

Sandy

How I feel about this character: I adore Sandy. I will protect him with my life. Sweet summer boy. Man? Sweet summer blue guy. I love him.

All the people I ship romantically with this character:  Him and Hunstman are def my fav, but I also low-key ship Lunartides (him and Macaque) and Fishballnoodle (i think that's the name? Him, Pigsy, and Tang)

My non-romantic OTP for this character:  The Sandwich trio of course. Him, Pigsy, and Tang all went to college together and I love them.

My unpopular opinion about this character:  Uhhhh I'm not sure I have one? The only thing I can think of is that he's my last fav of the gang. Not least fav, just... if I could get merch of everyone in the gang, I'd probably end up getting his last. I DO love Sandy very very much, but I also like other character way more. (I feel like I'm committing a sin when I say that I'm sorry Sandy 😭

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: SHOW ME COLLEGE SANDY. I want to see his healing journey. I want to see him having a falling out with Tang and Pigsy. I want to see all the flashbacks!!

My OTP: SILKTEA SILKTEA SILKTEA. Huntsman is so down bad for this dude it's insane. I also think Sandly honestly didn't realize Huntsman's feelings for him at first. Idk why, but I feel like Huntsman kept trying to drop hints and Sandy was just like ":D You want more tea?" and Huntsman has to flat out say "No, I want YOU! >///<"

A headcanon fact: I think there's one animal he's scared of. No idea what it is, but I feel like there is one single animal he will not go near. Probably something really obscure. Again, not a clue what it would be. But yeah. Oh, he also really likes scrap booking <3

The sun shone through the leaves, dappled shadows marking the mossy path. Water trickled from somewhere nearby, one of the dozens of streams rolling down the hill towards the river. The smell of spring flowers filled the air, a carpet of green and blue and white across the forest floor, only thin paths between the leaves to mark where others had been.

The Year of the OTP prompts for May include flower language, sunshine, and fantasy AU and those together sparked some ideas just from the glance at them.

It isn't actually an entire AU from start to finish, this is Iris walks into the Forest to save Irey and Jai from the fairy ring they've been tricked into walking into (there's a thing going on between Wally and Hunter Zoloman). And she calls in a favour owed to her by Barry.

It's sort of like a sequel to an unwritten start that would really have leant into the star-crossed lovers trope, two young people who want to be together but everything around them pulls them away from each other over and over. And then they reach the end and Barry's chosen by the Forest and not nearly as mortal as he was at the start, and there is a way he can share those centuries with Iris but there's Wally, there's this tiny boy in her arms, and choosing Barry means giving him up and she can't, he needs her.

But this isn't the end of that story, it's decades later, when two people who loved each other very much, who still do, see each other again for the last time
