I don’t have any kids yet but here’s a warning sign to my future partner how I’m raising them. Sorry but they’re going to be book nerds.

This has been sitting in my drafts for 7 fucking months lol.
So I was just thinking that The Pagemaster is like, a prime example of a movie with a good premise but flawed execution which would actually be worthwhile to remake.
The fundamental issue with it is that it’s a MOVIE trying to promote reading, which it seems to be attempting to do by just showing you characters you could watch in an actual adaptation of the work they originate from. But also the main character’s arc is supposed to be learning that he needs to spend less time reading and go out and touch grass.
I think a good way to remake it would be to have the main character be someone who just doesn’t like reading. They think it’s boring and time-consuming and they prefer to just watch movies because they don’t respect the craft of writing.
At the start they’re using movies, Wikipedia summaries, YouTube reviews, and TVTropes pages as a substitute for reading books for school, but when they get caught they’re forced to go to the library to actually read a book to do a report on. They get sucked into a literary fantasy world which has a magic system based on wordsmithing, and this is how you make the message actually work. Instead of just showing people things on screen and making them ask why they should read the book instead of finding a film adaptation, you show them the appeal of the language used to craft stories in a non-visual medium.
The way it would work is you’d use “magic words” to cast a spell that influences reality. But you don’t just say Latin-sounding phrases and shoot sparkles out of a wand. You have to write down exactly what you want to happen. When the main character tries to do this initially it doesn’t work because he just summarizes what he wants to happen. Like, he’s got two sidekicks who start bickering, and it annoys him so he writes “they stopped fighting and made up” but it has no effect. So he keeps trying until he realizes he has to actually write the dialog they have that ends the argument.
Over time he learns that the stronger his prose is, the stronger the magic. Bland, stage-direction-like writing is weak, but more reliable than trying to be more descriptive, but using the wrong words to convey the meaning he wants or arranging them with clunky flow. He learns from reading passages from other books and seeing other wordsmiths what good prose actually is and starts to get good at constructing sentences and paragraphs that have good flow and good word choices that convey what he really wants and it makes his magic more and more potent. At the story’s climax he composes a masterful passage powerful enough to resolve the main conflict. Having mastered the ability to express himself in writing, he is basically all-powerful within this world and can make anything happen. Naturally, learning how to write also helps him process feelings he didn’t know how to articulate before and he becomes more open, emotionally honest, and self-aware because of it. In the end, he returns to the real world, and maybe it was all a dream, or maybe it wasn’t. But his newfound appreciation for writing as an art form distinct from film is real. So he ends the movie happily checking out a bunch of books to enjoy and learn from as he hones his own newfound skills as a writer.

Sul Sul Readers!
I hope you're all doing well. I had a spell recently where my game wasn't functioning, and like anyone I spent 3 days in a panicked spiral digging through my program files and googling names of things.
I now have all of my important households updated and saved quietly to the gallery and I plan to update the households regularly. I hope you're all enjoying the end of fall.
The first post of Winter will start tomorrow, and I'm working on the spring chapter as it plays.
I wanted to stop today and take a moment to really appreciate how far this blog as come. Today (May 25th) is my simblrversary and marks me working on this blog for three years!
My readers have seen me through a vast amount of ups and downs in that time. I live an existence that could completely change in a day and a lot changed! From homelessness to major surgeries, to accidents, this hobby has kept me floating. It's given me a constructive focus (my counselor approves!) as well as a community of awesome people who also share the stories they play with their in game dolls.
I love seeing your updates and your legacies, I love being a part of this ecosystem. I'm looking towards next month and the month after to be hectic. My next surgery (hernia repair) is scheduled for July and I plan to keep updates through the process. It's safe to say I'm already having anxiety about it. There are days when it feels too real and I'm waiting for the piano to drop on my head. The ones in between I get rest, I create, I play. Life isn't horrible. The closer I get to it, the more in focus it'll become and there's nothing I can do about that. Which is why I feel like taking the time to appreciate the ways this blog has changed is so important. I've experimented so much with both my editing and my writing, the way I tell this story and the ones that are connected to it. I feel like this is a really special thing that I've poured a lot of myself into.
I hope you're all doing well, and if you're able, you take the time to donate to the Simmers for St. Jude fundraiser that's being held by lilsimsie on youtube. Our community has recently reached $500,000 donated for the month of May and this week is the home stretch.
I'm excited to see where we can all go from here.

Please, sir, that’s my emotional support non-Disney animated film from the 90s that was quickly pushed into VHS and is considered to be mid by online critics.

I think there’s a difference between a “favorite” movie and a “comfort” movie.
A movie can overlap into either but, if you’re looking for a particular feeling, your favorite movie may not give it like a comfort movie.
Example; a relationship comfort movie of mine is 500 Days of Summer vs. favorite movie Dead Poets Society.
My all purpose comfort movie would have to be The Pagemaster because I play the game of “how many book references can I find” every time I watch it.
I also like Midnight in Paris but that’s if I want to feel like shit about myself. Why I would want to feel that way beats me but dammit Hemingway! Why are his scenes the realest and most inspirational when I actually HATE HIS WORK???……. Because they’re real and feel like eternal high school drama? It’s probably because I’m an artist/writer by heart I get criticized while watching it.

Sul sul Simmers.
I have grave news under the cut. I am a bit distraught but the tl;dr is that much of what I had planned for this story has been broken.
Never Been Bitten has been canceled. There may be more side stories moving forward, but this one specifically has been lost.
The Nebula Legacy is still going in game. Much of the Venus generation will have to go undocumented sadly, due to a storage issue.
I had spent the last few months taking close to 8,000 screenshots of my gameplay, intended to go towards the depth of this story. Yesterday, I was attempting to move some of the files into a folder on the drive and it started running into errors. It required a reformatting of the SD card, which erased all of the data contained.
My heart was broken. There was so much in this generation that I wanted to say, and I feel as if I can't tell it without those images that are just... gone.
Part of me is in shock, these weren't just pictures, they were hours of posing the sims, finding angles, playing through the game, and taking endless notes in the long hours of the night, all for the actual joy of doing it and in a moment it felt like all of that effort is just gone with those files.
In regards to the generation that follows, Lucy gave healthy birth to two wonderful children. Cliff and Varsana Nebula.
Cliff is the result of Lucy seducing Father Winter (Clemont Frost) Varsana is the most recent of Darrel Charm's ancient spellcaster bloodline, which I may explore at a later time.
I refuse to believe that this legacy is cursed, in spite of something going horribly wrong with telling the story at every generation
Sun (I became homeless ) Mercury (I lost all my expansions in an email update and had to buy them all again) Venus (The screenshots were destroyed)
Over the last few years of trying to tell these stories, many of my followers have stuck by it. I'm doing my best to keep chucking along.
In regards to my health, I haven't gotten my surgery yet. Which made this all the more frustrating. That the reason I was collecting screenshots was so that I would have something to do while I was recovering in the hospital and in the time leading to that everything I was working on breaks.
Woo
I appreciate anyone who's still hanging out. I'm on a waiting list for surgery possibly next year, but for now, I want to pick up the story with the Earth generation. I plan on writing a decent summary of Lucy's life. It won't have the usual long form details it deserves, but I can accept that.
My story is flawed, but it will be complete.
The next post will be my best effort at detailing the major events of Lucy's life in summary.
I found a handful of screenshots backed up on my computer that contained Lucy's final days and I plan to do something special with those, then carry forward to the Earth generation and the last of the Venus generation trying to get their greedy hands on the fortune Lucy has left behind.
Thank you all for sticking around. <3

Here’s Horror, Fantasy and Adventure from 1994’s The Pagemaster and happy 30th anniversary to one of my most favorite movies from my childhood! 📚💙💜❤️✨
I can’t believe this movie just turned 30 and I’ve been rewatching this movie while I was drawing this. This underrated yet beloved film inspired me to not only love movies but also read books. This is one of the classic movies that many 90s kids will developed their love for books; made me a bookworm and I’m not an ashamed of it! 👏🤓📖
I highly recommend watching this 90’s classic film because it’s a beautiful blend of live-action and animation as it starred Macaulay Culkin, Christopher Lloyd, Leonard Nimroy, Whoopi Goldberg, Sir Patrick Stewart and Frank Welker.
Artist’s Note: This movie came out in November 23, 1994. I was originally going to post it a few weeks ago but I was too busy celebrating Thanksgiving with my family. Anyway, better late than never in 2024! 👌😆👍 I knew many 90s babies are going to love my colorful fanart featuring my favorite literary trio! This is all done by color pencils, thank you!
