Okay but imagine a workaholic with a physically active job who breaks/injures one of their limbs and literally cannot work for a few weeks or months. Their body comes to a screening halt, they're already crabby and hurting and then the LEISURE SICKNESS kicks in!! So now they're not only in pain, they're a sick, pathetic, contagious mess can you imagine the misery and the need for cuddling and coddling

Mad Scientist actually using control/double blind groups:
Victor Frankenstein: just a normal dead body struck by lightning, and a living person that he tells to pretend to be a dead person brought back to life.
Mr Hilyear: Guy is asked what he believes the future will be like.
C. A. Rotwang: just like hire a sex worker, idk man.
Dr Jekyll: A guy given a placebo and told it would boost his manliness, machismo, and executive function.
Hawley Griffin: basically the Emperor's New Skin.

what book I would give each current formula one driver to introduce them to the joy of reading
an intellectual exercise no one* asked for
Max Verstappen: Guns, Germs, and Steel by Jared Diamond - if you are nd and have read this book, you may understand me. otherwise just trust me. the impetus for this post
Checo Perez: The Trumpet of the Swan by E.B. White - this is an excellent read-aloud book for Sergio Jr.'s age, and there is nothing as wonderful as reading a compelling book to a kid you love, imho
Charles Leclerc: The Golden Compass by Phillip Pullman - he is on the record as a Potter enjoyer. also, I think he would enjoy having a little animal friend
Carlos Sainz: Priestdaddy by Patricia Lockwood - okay yes this is partially a joke about the title, but this is a hilarious and wonderful memoir, about weird families and Catholicism, and I think Carlos would enjoy it.
Lando Norris: Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett - in my mind Lando is a little bit like @bright-and-burning but less cool, so this fits. also, the combination of high number of jokes/page + action/mystery seems like a good fit
Oscar Piastri: Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie - this book has the kind of mystery that really draws you in, plus I think Oscar would dig the questions about AI it digs into. I choose to believe with zero evidence that he would be interested in the funky gender stuff
Fernando Alonso: Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell - look me in the eye and tell me this book wasn't written for Fernando Alonso
Lance Stroll: Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card - yeah
Lewis Hamilton: Die Trying by Lee Child - Lewis deserves to read mildly trashy thrillers <3 plus there's a Tom Cruise movie
George Russell: Changing My Mind by Zadie Smith - as a proud Brit, George should be reading one of the premiere English authors of the 21st century. her first book of essays is a fun and readable place to start
Yuki Tsunoda: Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel - I don't have a Yuki-lore explanation, I just want to give him one of my favorite books
Daniel Ricciardo: The Gunslinger by Steven King - The Dark Tower series is Lord of the Rings-esque in scope but Western-inflected in aesthetic and written by The Horror Guy, I think DR would enjoy
Alex Albon: The Emperor of All Maladies: A Biography of Cancer by Siddhartha Mukherjee - I say this with so much love in my heart, but Alex wants to be seen as smart. this book is brilliantly written pop science
Logan Sargeant: Bloomability by Sharon Creech - yes this is a book for tween girls, but it's about boarding school in Switzerland, and Sharon Creech is a genius. if I could convince him to read it, I think he would love it
Valtteri Bottas: The Fellowship of the Ring by JRR Tolkien - what are hobbits if not humanoid moomins?
Zhou Guanyu: Piranesi by Susannah Clarke - a fun, exciting, stylishly written book for a stylish guy
Kevin Magnussen: Watership Down by Richard Adams - rabbit warfare <3
Nico Hulkenberg: A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles - Hulk SEEMS like a Dad Who Reads Historical Fiction, even if he isn't yet
Pierre Gasly: Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo - I almost said A Game of Thrones but I don't think that would be good for him. so, Six of Crows. he likes heists!
Esteban Ocon: City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty - a superhero origin story of sorts for Mr. Spiderman
Bonus: Liam Lawson: Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir - lesbian from New Zealand. let me have this
*ro asked for it, take it up with them @oscarpiastriwdc

My Grimoire Research Library
this is a list of my major resource I've referenced/am currently referencing in my big grimoire project. For books I'll be linking the Goodreads page, for pdfs, websites and videos i'll link them directly.
There are plenty of generalised practitioner resources that can work for everyone but as I have Irish ancestry and worship Hellenic deities quite a few of my resources are centred around Celtic Ireland, ancient Greece and the Olympic mythos. If you follow other sects of paganism you are more than welcome to reblog with your own list of resources.
Parts of my grimoire discuss topics of new age spiritualism, dangerous conspiracy theories, and bigotry in witchcraft so some resources in this list focus on that.

|Chapter 18 | Find Your Way Back
Tumblr media
This past week had been relatively stress free after committing to the homework Dr. Mitchell doled out in our session. Outside of work I didn’t do anything that I did not have to do which meant I took time off from the gym and a break from helping out with Granddad. I needed a full break away from everyone. It wasn’t until this assignment that I realized that I was always on go, always running around, or exerting energy in some form. I had forgotten what it was like to be still and pour into myself. In this moment of stillness I found that what I really needed was to grieve. I needed to grieve Sabrina, who Grandad was, and who I used to be. I needed to grieve so that I could make space for the person I am now.
My eyes travel back to my phone for the umpteenth time in the last twelve hours. I know Mila read my text because she hearted it but I have yet to receive a written or verbal response from her. The heart was a good sign yet it wasn’t enough. I needed more because I missed the hell out of her. Did she miss me the same way? Right as I was about to pick up the device again to craft another message, the sound of my door opening followed by footsteps, caused me to stand up. It didn’t take long to see who was barging into my apartment unannounced.
“We let you have your lil Eat, Pray, Love moment but enough. We are going to watch this game and eat some wings,”  Aiden said, as he sauntered past the entryway armed with bags. Rah trailed behind him holding a case of beer.
“Bro, that key is for emergencies,” I said, shaking my head at them.
“It is an emergency. When was the last time you took a shower?” Aiden shouted over his shoulder, as he continued making his way towards the kitchen.
Okay, he had me there. I hadn’t actually left my apartment in the past three days and depression has a way of making you break routine. A quick lift of my arms, let me know that I needed to fix that immediately.
“Aight, it’s been awhile but I’ma get on it. Use coasters please,” I said, as I began walking towards the bathroom.
“You might want to tighten up that hairline while you at it,” Rah said, making a clipper motion with his hands.
“Fuck y’all,” I chuckled.
“And hurry up funky, we hungry!” Aiden yelled, over the sound of clattering plates and my drawers being yanked open with more force than necessary. I shook my head as I proceeded to the bathroom deciding not to prolong the journey by responding to him.
It takes me about forty minutes to shape up my hairline and then shower. When I saunter back into the living room it’s to a round of applause.
“Aye man, fuck y’all,” I chuckle, as I reach for a wing.
They had made use of one of the big bowls my mother insisted I would need one day and poured all of the wings into them. Beside that bowl was a plate full of fries and another of onion rings. There was also a box of pizza that Rah was currently inhaling half of.
“What y’all niggas been up to besides breaking and entering?” I ask, as I sit down on the other end of the couch.
“Nothing but the usual. This nigga need help with a proposal to Keisha but I told him that’s your lane,” Aiden said, eyes trained on the game on the TV like he didn’t just announce something important.
“Oh shit, you ready to propose? It’s about time,” I said, looking over at Rah.
“Yeah man I know, I’ve been ready but now it feels like we’re both on the same page,” Rah says with a small smile.
“I’m happy for you bro. She’s definitely going to say yes,” I said.
“Duh, they've been together forever,” Aiden tosses in.
We both give him a side eye that he doesn’t see because his glance hasn’t left the game and won’t. Shaking my head I continue, “Aight, let me hear your ideas so I can tell you if they’re good or not.”
For the next hour we bounce ideas back and forth until we get the best proposal plan that encompasses both Rah and Keisha as a couple. In a month’s time, he will be popping the big question and I couldn’t be more happy for them. Once that’s squared away, Aiden insists that we head out to a few bars to celebrate the fact that the Nets won. However, I’m not ready to be out and about just yet so I send them on their way after they make me swear to show up to the gym this week.
The moment I think I am about to get some peace after the guys leave, my phone starts to ring. I instantly reach for it hoping it’s Mila but when I see who it actually is, I freeze for a moment. The name ‘Pops’ flashes across my screen with a picture of us from my college graduation. It was a day neither of us thought I would see so we were especially happy to celebrate the occasion together. It rings out three more times but instead of answering, I watch it go to voicemail. He might be ready to talk but I’m not. Tossing my phone to the side, I’m on my way to the kitchen to get a drink when there’s a knock on the door. I swing it open without looking because I assume the boys forgot something but I’m in shock when I see who it is.
With her hair freshly braided and dressed in a cream sweater dress, Mila stands before me shyly. My eyes trace over her frame, it’s been so long since I’ve seen her in person that I instantly want to take in what’s been missed. It seems she is doing the same because when our eyes meet once more, a blush takes over her cheeks.
“Hi,” she says softly.
“Hi,” I replied.
“May I come in?” she asks.
“Of course, my bad, come, come,” I said, moving back so that she could enter the apartment. I have never been more thankful for the boy's intrusion like I am now because if she decided to pop up a few hours ago I would have been looking rough. I follow behind her until we’re both standing toe to toe in the living room. We resume eyeing each other again. There are oceans of words between us but none of them compare to the three that have been swirling in my mind nonstop since opening the door. She opens her mouth to speak but I beat her to it. “I’ve missed you.”
“I’ve missed you too. More than you know.”
That’s all we both need to hear before enveloping each other in a hug. I wrap my arms around her waist tightly and she squeezes my shoulders to bring me closer. It takes everything in me not to hoist her into my arms. As badly as I want to, I know there are things that need to be said before we fall back into each other. She nuzzles her face in my chest and inhales deeply. I rub her back slowly as she gathers her thoughts. After a few moments she says, “I’m sorry to pop up but I feel like I owed you an in person apology. I took my past out on you and that was so unfair.”
“Mila I’m s-
“No, let me finish,” she said, tipping her head back so that our eyes could meet. Her brown eyes were already glazed over with tears begging to spring free. “I have not had the easiest life and because of that it’s so hard for me to trust people. Like unbelievably fucking hard. Then you came along and made me question everything I thought I knew. You gave me the ability to open up and I have never felt so seen. I have never felt so free.”
The tears that she had been holding back crash down onto her cheeks but instead of hiding her face like usual she bares them for me to see. “What Trevor did to me…made me feel like the woman I was before you. Scared and angry. Beyond angry and when I saw you, in a way I was mad that without you around I couldn’t be free. That wasn’t right to put on you and it took me some time and therapy,” she said with a sly grin causing us to both chuckle. It was only a few months ago that she had been adamant about not talking to anyone. The strides she has taken in our weeks apart makes me so proud.“...to realize that I can’t rest my freedom or happiness on your shoulders. I have to own that for myself or else I’m always going to be left to pick up the pieces”.
Leaning down, I press my lips softly against hers, no longer able to resist the urge. “Thank you,” I say against her lips. “While that is true, I need you to know that I am here for you, to support your happiness and aid in it. To protect you. To cherish you. To love you because I do love you and I’m in love with you Jamila Cortez.”
“I’m in love with you-
I swallow the rest of her confession with my tongue. The last of my restraint has vanished with those five words. She mewls as I finally give into my other urge and hoist her into my arms. Her hands raise from my shoulders to cup my face as I continue to devour her lips. As we kiss, I can feel the color slip back into my life. That’s how vibrant she is, how potent. We end up against the wall, breathing heavy as my lips move from her lips to the hollows of her throat. She smells of jasmine and promise, I sink my teeth in and am rewarded with a guttural moan. The kind that can only be elicited when two people know without a shadow of a doubt that their kindred spirit is present.
We become an endeavor of sloppy movements fueled by an urgency to reunite as one. Her hands are fumbling with my sweats as I bunch her dress up to her waist. The thong she wears is easily ripped from her frame with one strong pull. The act causes her to push her hips against mine in excitement. Holding her tightly with my left arm, I use my right hand to slip myself against her folds.
“Damn,” I curse, feeling how wet she is for me already.
As if she can read my mind she says, “She missed you too.”
I lean in and nip at her bottom lip as I guide myself inside, stretching her walls. She cries out softly as I’m welcomed back to my favorite place. Digging her heels into my lower back, Mila uses the leverage to drop onto me fully, causing us both to moan out.
“Hold on,” I instruct as I grip both of her hips.
I wait until she interlocks her arms around my shoulders but once she does? I began to plummet into her warmth with abandon. My concentration is solely on the way our bodies work in tandem, each time I pull back, I’m covered in more and more of Mila. When I glance up, I catch Mila’s focused stare as she watches the way I disappear and reappear inside of her. Each time snatching more of her breath than the last. Feeling my stare, she drags me closer for a kiss. Her tongue flicks against mine until I capture and suck it slowly.
“Xayyy,” she cries, tearing her mouth from mine. Her back is flush against the wall as I alternate my strokes from deep plunges to a slow grind against her spot.
“What’s up baby? Talk to me,” I said, speaking directly in her ear before licking the outer shell. “What do you want me to do?”
“There, there, there. Stay there,” she panted, tightening her grip against me.
“Right here?” I said, grinding deeper towards the left.
“Yes! Yes!” she said, flinging her head back so it lands on the wall with a soft thud. Her hips are winding, meeting my thrusts eagerly. We are in this together.
“You really luh me?” I questioned teasingly, placing a kiss on her damp collarbone.
“I do,” she said, nodding her head fervently. “So fucking much.”
“You gon’ cum for me then?” I asked.
“If you listen and don’t move,” she whines, causing me to chuckle.
Placing my lips against hers, I said, “I got you baby. I got you.”
Slipping a hand between us, I rub my fingers across her clit in circular motions causing her hips to freeze as she succumbs to the pleasure. “Nuh uh, no one told you to stop. Keep going,” I said.
“That’s too much,” she breathed out, tears aligning her eyes again. This time from pleasure as she tries to rise up to alleviate the pressure she was chasing only moments before. I yank her back down not allowing the escape.
“You got this,” I said, stealing another kiss. “Fuck me back like a good girl.”
Licking her lips, she nods her head, my words successfully triggering her hips to continue meeting my strokes. Though they initially held steady in pace, the more I played with her clit, the more frantic Mila’s movements became. Her walls were starting to pulse against me and I knew it was only a matter of time before we were both on our way to bliss.
All that could be heard between us was heavy breathing and the sound of our skin slapping against one another. Catching her gaze again, I saw the vulnerability she used to try to hide. At this moment it’s all there for me to see and I have never been more appreciative. Leaning in, I rest my forehead on hers as our lips meet for another kiss. It’s as frantic as our lower bodies as the power of our connection drives us forward. We’re moaning together as we crash out at the same time. This orgasm steals our breaths as we slink to the floor entangled. From this day forward I knew we would always have each other. When I looked at Mila, it was like seeing my heartbeat outside of my chest.
Breathing hard against one another, we exchange soft kisses, and gentle touches as we come down from the intensity of our orgasms. She’s placing kisses on my chest while I play with her hair when I say, “Please don’t shut me out again. I know every day won’t be easy but I promise not to make it harder. I promise to have your back as long as you let me. I promise to choose you everyday.”
Raising her head up, she meets my eyes and I see the remorse in her gaze but it’s unnecessary because she was forgiven weeks ago. “I promise too. I promise to be better and to communicate instead of running away. I promise to choose you too.”
Lifting my index finger, I silently beckon her to come closer which she does by slinking her body up my torso. When she is close enough, I grab her throat and pull her towards my face. At the same time her hand finds my length. We sink into each other at the same time. Our promises are sealed.

My friend is trying to make Sun and Moon from security breach as a dnd character but it is definitely not the right system. is there a game that would work better with animatronics and stuff like that?
THEME: Dual Personalities
Hello friend, so I have a few routes that I’ve gone with this prompt. Finding a FNAF game is a bit of a tall order, but I think the most important of Sun and Moon’s dynamic is the switch in personality - with Moon being an inverted, terrifying version of Sun’s personality. There are two common tropes that exist in fiction that have that same dynamic - werewolves and the story of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. I took those as leads, but tried to find games where the setting might be flexible - or hackable. I’d also love to hear what other kinds of games other folks suggest!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Eat God by @prokopetz.
Eat God is a game where you take on the role of a small gremlin-like creature. Though you're just as much a person as anybody else, the setting's dominant human culture tends to regard your kind as clever vermin, which means you don't get a lot of respect – but it also means you usually aren't seen as a threat, which may occasionally work to your advantage.
Unfortunately for the people in charge, you're not just any clever vermin: you and your companions are God-eaters, wandering practitioners of an esoteric discipline – part existential philosophy, part martial art – which affords you a limited capacity to bend the laws of reality to your will. As its name suggests, the God-eater's creed also has serious objections to authority in all its forms.
Eat God is still in playtest, but there’s one character option in particular you might be interested in - Polycephalous. This gives your character a second face - and this might be a second personality, a second head, etc. It allows your character to attempt certain things that might usually require two people. Combine this with something like Fast Feet (that help you scuttle very quickly) Languorous Lure (which gives you glowing eyes) and you’re well on the way to having a double-personality.
A Modern Prometheus, by Mitchell Salmon.
A Modern Prometheus is a gothic horror roleplaying game for 2 players based on the Mobile Frame Zero: Firebrands framework by D. Vincent Baker and Meguey Baker (Lumpley Games).
Players take on the role of a scientist dabbling with dark forces at the edge of the natural sciences, and the creation that they bring to life as a consequence. Together, you and your partner will discover through play who is human, and who is monstrous.
This is a game where the relationship between the “Sun” character and the “Moon” character is the whole point of the game. The creation of the monstrous is explored through play, and the highlighted themes are vengeance, humanity, and rage. The game itself uses mini-games that you can order in whatever way you like - create a story of horror together one step at a time.
The Monster Within, by Felipemuky.
The Monster Within is a duo RPG where players play a human dealing with their monster within. They must fight for control of their body or cooperate to survive.
One player will be the Human, a person tormented with a monster living in their body, an the other is the Monster, a creature eager to take control of the body to satiate its appetites.
This game brings rules to emphasizes the conflict between the two parts and the tension of losing the control in difficult times.
This is a game for one game-master and two players, or two players using an oracle to facilitate GM-less play. It’s a one-page zine game, with some simple rules to and a few basic traits to determine for both the Human and the Monster. The players can fight each-other or work together to confront challenges, with the default state being that the human is in control, and the monster is trying to take control of the body. There’s no rules as to what the monster looks like, so if you were to pick this up, you could attach some Moon-like attributes to the monster character, and perhaps change something about the setting to make it make more sense for the kind of characters you want to play.
Cypher System (and Expanded Worlds) , by Monte Cook Games.
The Cypher System is the critically acclaimed game engine that powers any campaign in any genre. You may have heard of it as the system that drives the award-winning Numenera roleplaying game. Lauded for its elegance, ease of use, flexibility, and narrative focus, the Cypher System unleashes the creativity of GMs and players with intuitive character creation, fast-paced gameplay, and a uniquely GM-friendly design.
Cypher System characters are built from the concept up. A descriptive sentence provides not just an easily-understood overview of the character, but also the mechanical basis for skills, abilities, and stats. And the Cypher System gives players amazing narrative engagement, rewarding player-driven subplots and giving players resources to bear on the tasks and situations they most want to succeed at.
The base rulebook for the Cypher System has a character option (dubbed a focus) called Howls at the Moon which is typically a were-creature concept, but I think it could be used to create a threatening-yet-powerful alter-ego that has nefarious motives. There’s also an option in the Expanded Worlds supplement, called Changes Shape, which changes your physical form, without taking away your ability to think for yourself. Even if neither of these foci aren’t exactly what you are looking for, the Cypher system gives you tools to help you create your own custom focus that replicates the dual personality that Sun and Moon embody.
Apocalypse Keys, by Sword Queen Games.
The Doomsday Clock is ticking down and emotions run high as you and your team of DIVISION agents struggle to find the Keys before the villainous Harbingers unlock the Doors of Power and bring about the apocalypse.
As an Omen class monster, you are the only thing capable of holding back the apocalypse. Combat occult threats and investigate supernatural phenomena alongside your team of supernatural agents working for the shadowy DIVISION. But in a world that shuns monsters like you, only your deepest, most heartfelt bonds can grant you the power to stop those who seek to unlock Doom’s Door.
There’s a couple of different ways I think you could replicate Sun and Moon in Apocalypse Keys. One way could be to embody the Hungry, a character who houses a hunger for blood, souls, or something more. You could personify that hunger as an alternate personality, that surfaces every time your character has to feed. I’ve also seen something similar done with the Surge and the Fallen playbooks - with the Surge, the player could create an alternate personality that arises when they use their power, or use the Ruin move My Dark Patron to give their alternate personality more power over your character. With the Fallen, another playbook, the alternate personality was a fallen god, housed in a human shell. I think there’s a lot of untapped possibility in this game, as all of the characters are wrestling with a monstrosity that has great capacity for harm, but also empowers them to solve problems that threaten the world they all live in.

i am primarily a non-fiction girlie. i like reading about historical things. you could say i have a niche. can you guess what it is?
102 minutes that changed america by jim dwyer and kevin flynn. i consider this a must read about 9/11. it's an engaging read and i promise you will come out of it infuriated about new york real estate codes but also it humanizes the event. there were real heroes that day. the history channel also did a documentary of the same name.
the invention of murder: how the victorians revelled in death and detection and created modern crime by judith fanders. this one of not for the faint of heart. it's a beast of a book. but it's incredibly interesting and full of information. we've always been weird freaks.
stiff: the curious lives of human cadavers by mary roach. i will not lie i got this book due to a sterek fanfic and i did not regret it. if you ever wanted to know how cadavers have contributed to science and human safety this is the book to read.
this republic of suffering: death and the american civil war by drew gilpin faust. this is one of my incredibly niche interests. the american civil war fundamentally changed the american relationship with death (and religion) which is fascinating. men died far away from home and americans had to learn to cope with mass death.
working stiff: two years, 262 bodies, and the making of a medical examiner by judy melinek and t.j mitchell. dr judy melinek started working as a pathologist for new york city two months before 9/11 and a few other big events. i found this super compelling.
plague (black death & pestilence in europe) by william g. naphy and andrew spicer. i just want y'all to know i was reading this book in feburary 2020 (☞゚ヮ゚)☞. it's also super informative. who doesn't like reading about the black death and societal changes because of it?
assassination vacation by sarah vowell. i discovered this book due to the incredibles dvd giving sarah vowell a spotlight on it. she is the voice of violet parr and an essayist. i recommend any book by her and she was a semi-frequent guest on the daily show during jon stewart's tenure. by this one? it's about presidential assassinations -- a favorite topic of mine.
how to fight presidents: defending yourself against the badasses who ran this country by daniel o'brien. this is written by cracked alumn and now writer for the late late show daniel o'brien. he liked my tweet about it. pour one out for him not only having to read about mallard filmore but he also was spoken to by the secret service and not allowed to include any living presidents (at the time) in the book.
the witches: suspicion, betrayal, and hysteria in 1692 salem by stacy schiff. a really in depth look at the salem witch trials that i considered quite the page turner. i consider it a god forbid woman do anything tale. her book on cleopatra was also riveting.

Matricula of King’s College
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Page 18 and 19 of a manuscript volume entitled; “The Matricula or Register of Admissions & of Graduations & of Officers employed in King’s College at New-York.”, shows Alexander Hamilton's and Edward Stevens's signed names.
There are contradicting claims as to when exactly Hamilton started studying at King's, and unfortunately this document does not settle much of the matter. Hercules Mulligan claimed that Hamilton; “entered King's Colledge in the spring of 75 in the Sophomore Class & on the terms he had proposed at Princeton and boarded with my family.” [x] While Robert Troup recalled; “I became acquainted with the General in the year 1773 at Kings, now Columbia College, in New York, where I was a student [...] When the General entered College, he did it as a private student, and not by annexing himself to a particular class” [x] And JCH fails to mention a solid date as to when Hamilton entered college.
Upon writing about Hamilton's youth, Broadus Mitchell comments on the Matricula with AH's name saying;
Alexander Hamilton's presence at King's in the academic year 1773-1774 rests on the testimony of his intimate friend Robert Troup, who more than thirty-six years later recorded that “I became acquainted with [him] in the year 1773 at Kings... in New York, where I was a student... When [Hamilton] entered College, he did it as a private student, and not by annexing himself to a particular class. The President, and Professors, instructed him at their leisure hours.” Hamilton made studious progress in the languages and other branches and, having “originally destined himself to the Science of Physic he was regular in attending the anatomical lectures, then delivered in the College by Dr. Clossey.” Notices of Dr. Clossy's lectures appeared in the newspapers, and it may be that Hamilton attended them, as any member of the public, on payment of the fee, was privileged to do. If he first intended fitting himself for the practice of medicine he may have been led to it, as previously mentioned, because Hugh Knox, his clerical patron of St. Croix, was also physician and apothecary; in addition, his boyhood friend on St. Croix and fellow student at King's, Edward Stevens, was probably already intending for Edinburgh to study medicine. Troup had good means of knowing when Hamilton was first at King's, in whatever status; Troup graduated A.B. in 1774; consequently 1773-1774 was the only session when he and Hamilton could have been fellow students. He roomed with Hamilton in the college building and named the other “particular associates” of Hamilton in college Edward Stevens, Samuel and Henry Nicoll.
The redoubtable Hercules Mulligan, who met Hamilton at the boat, as it were, remembered differently. Writing, like Troup, a full generation after the events, he shifted the dates forward a year, saying Alexander first came to New York in October 1773, prepared for college at Barber's Academy, and “entered King's... Colledge in the spring of 1775 in the Sophomore Class” but on his own special plan. He “boarded with the Mulligan family.” The fact is that the register of students and faculty of King's College has in the hand of President Myles Cooper the name of Alexander Hamilton under “Admissions Anno 1774.” He was one of seventeen admitted that year, his name occurring next to last. This would seem to be definitive for the date of Hamilton's formal entrance, or matriculation, but several circumstances leave the exact date, or even the year, in some doubt. The list of this class and others, none alphabetical, may have been written in the book at a later time, not when the class entered or graduated, which would make room for error. The official roster was carelessly kept; Hamilton was doubtless at King's “as a private student,” as Troup said, in the academic year 1773-1774, and then formally entered, as per the Matricula, in 1774, perhaps “in the Sophomore Class” as Mulligan remembered. He no longer “destined himself to the Science of Physic,” because when actually enrolled he was not designated “S.M.” (student of medicine).

‘ I DIDN’T SEND YOU THE MANUSCRIPT, JACK. ‘ there’s a certain finality to june’s voice, a certain edge, warning a bad dog to just drop it already! ‘ i don’t know who did, or- or why, but that doesn’t matter. our … arrangement does not entitle you to my work, nor the subject of it. ‘
jack leans back in his chair, gaze dropping from the doctor to the manuscript. CONVERSATIONS WITH THE DEVIL printed in big, bold letters, and beneath it, BY DR. JUNE ROSS-MITCHELL. a book yet to be bound, to be published; simply a thick stack of pages, stapled in sections to assure nothing was left unread. a gift, almost too good to be true. he can’t let this one pass him by. he’s leaning forward now, elbows resting on his knees. ‘ think of this as an opportunity, june. ‘
‘ an opportunity to what? ‘ a scoff. ‘ exploit lilly for the paycheck? the exposure? your ratings? ‘
exploitation is a funny accusation coming from the woman planning to sell her precious research, planning to play the masses’ morbid curiosity of the occult. a gentle smile, instead. ‘ no, june, i’m not asking you to exploit her, that would be beyond cruel. ‘ he tilts his head, eyes probing, curious. ‘ this isn’t to drum up sales, or to boost my ratings. it’s to let you further speak your truth, speak lilly’s truth. it’s to show the world what you already know to be true. ‘
when june drops her gaze, when her posture looses, jack knows he’s got her.
‘ think about it, junie. ‘ voice is softer, now, gentler. ‘ when people read this book, they’ll be up in arms, calling you a phony, a fraud … this, your research, it’s impressive, it’s chilling, but the average person, he doesn’t care about credentials, he won’t understand the science. this- ‘ he’s swiped the manuscript from the table, gesturing to it with his other hand- ‘ i believe, got to me by some miracle. the opportunity to prove everyone wrong, june, is right here, on night owls. give them live video evidence to back up the science, a- a demonstration, if you will- ‘
‘ if you think even for a second that i’m going to let you toy with lilly for some halloween special - ‘
‘ i wouldn’t even dream of it. ‘ with his index finger, he traces a little ‘x’ over his heart. ‘ cross my heart and hope to die, june. you and lilly, you’ll be treated with utmost respect, like royalty, on my set. ‘ he’s taking her hand into both of his, now. ‘ come on, junie. if things get out of control, or if you or lilly are uncomfortable in any way, we’ll wrap your segment. your word is law. ‘
june withdraws her hand from jack’s and crosses her arms over his chest. though her brows remain furrowed, she all but deflates in her seat. ‘ she’s just . . . she’s been doing so well lately, i worry about this triggering her, making her regress . . . ‘ a deep sigh, gaze falling back to the mystery manuscript. who could’ve gotten ahold of this? she would inquire with her editor later. an attempt at a stupid publicity stunt, she’s sure of it. ‘ look. i can’t guarantee anything, but . . . alright, i’ll talk to her. i’ll talk to lilly. ‘
‘ you are incredible- ‘
‘ however. ‘ eyes hardening, arms uncrossing as june sits up. ‘ if you’re just pulling the wool over my eyes here, and truly planning to make a spectacle of my little girl, i will raise hell, jack delroy. i’m very serious. i don’t care about the money, or the exposure, i care about keeping lilly safe, and spreading her truth to hopefully help people like her. ‘
a solemn nod from jack, keeping a cool front despite the bubbling excitement. this will save your show. jack delroy, mr. midnight himself, back from the fucking dead! ‘ i understand completely, june. lilly’s well being will be the top priority, i can assure you. ‘

Love through the pages | Chapter 11
Tumblr media
Masterlist
The first thing that Bob could remember was the light, it was a piercing light. The kind that caused you to squint and shield your eyes. It was bright and white. The slow beeping of the machine was next, it entered his brain and stayed there, beeping incessantly. His body felt heavy, like it was being weighed down, Bob felt like someone was laying across his chest, restraining him. His eyes struggled to open, heavy eyelids twitching as his eyes adjusted to the light. He lay in the bleach-white room on the crisp bed sheets. Bob's eyes fluttered shut again and he fought to open them, trying to concentrate on his surroundings. A pale blue curtain hung limply on the chrome railing, encircling his bed. Bob’s eyes focussed and he saw you sitting next to him. You looked exhausted, face crumpled and tear-stained. He tried to reach across to you but his chest erupted in pain like someone had replaced his heart with a hand grenade and pulled the pin. The machine beeped violently next to him and he groaned again, desperately trying to ease his discomfort. He felt you stir next to him and watched as you shot bolt upright in the chair.
“Bob?” Your voice was barely above a whisper as you reached towards him. Your hand felt cold against his cheek and his whole face stung as you gently ran your fingers across his cheekbone. “Bob?” You asked again and he tried to give you a weak smile.
“Hey Love,” he croaked, his throat feeling raw and dry. Tears began to stream down your cheek and Bob tried to reach up to wipe them away, but moaned in pain. He’d always hated seeing his girl cry.
“I’m so sorry, Bobby,” you cried, voice straining with the effort as you tried to hold back the flood that was threatening to fall. “I’m so sorry.”
“It’s not your fault, Love. None of this is your fault,” he hated how weak he sounded. “If anything I should be… I should be apologizing to you.” He erupted in a fit of coughing, causing searing pain to spread through his body. Your face filled with worry as you disappeared from the room, Bob reached forward trying to stop you from leaving. “It’s ok, Baby I’ll be right back I promise.”
The nurses hurried into the room, followed by a doctor. They busied themselves, talking to you but never talking to him. “What’s happening,” Bob kept mumbling, but no one replied to him. Somebody stuck a stethoscope to his chest, the cold metal causing Bob to wince. One of the nurses checked his vitals while a doctor he recognised as Natasha was talking to you in the corner. Bob felt so confused, a dizzy feeling circling his head and his eyes began to feel heavy again. He soon slipped back into the peaceful darkness. ——————————————————————————
Bob lay peacefully in bed. His face relaxed and his heart beating quietly through the ECG. You watched as his eyes moved below his lids as he slept, waiting for him to open his eyes again. Natasha and Dr Mitchell kept coming in to check on him, but it was mainly just you sitting and watching his pulse spike up and down on the machine. Your mind was so busy concentrating on the beeping noise that you didn’t notice Bob was awake until he squeezed your hand softly. “Bob?”
“Hello, Love?” He smiled at you, this time a little brighter.
“How are you feeling? Do you need anything?” You stood up, placing your hand on his forehead and brushing the stray blond locks away from his eyes.
“No, I’m ok actually. I think whatever they gave me earlier is working,” he gave a small laugh but winced instantly. His voice was still croaky so you handed him a glass of water, which he drank gratefully. “That’s what Morphine does for you, My Darling.” You continued to talk to Bob softly, explaining what happened in the accident. “You gave me quite the scare, Bob. I thought I’d lost you.”
“You can’t get rid of me that easily.” Your conversation was interrupted by Dr Mitchell entering the room. He smiled softly at the pair of you as he approached the bed.
“Good morning, Mr Floyd. How are you feeling?”
“Like I was hit by a truck, Doc.”
Dr Mitchell smiled, “he’s still got his sense of humour then? That’s good to hear.” You tried to laugh at the joking but you knew Dr Mitchell had come to discuss Bob’s condition and you already knew the conversation was going to end in tears. You braced yourself as Dr Mitchell discussed the extent of Bob’s injuries with him. Bob nodded along with the small awkward smile he always wore when he was worried. You squeezed his hand reassuringly as the doctor spoke.
“Mr Floyd, I’m afraid to tell you that due to the severity of your injuries that you're unlikely to ever be able to walk again. Now when you feel better we can set you up with physio and hydrotherapy to try to help build up the muscles but I’m sorry to say you are never likely to have full function of your legs again.”
“Ok,” was all Bob replied and both you and Dr Mitchell looked at him completely shocked.
“Bob? Honey, do you understand what Dr Mitchell’s trying to tell you?” Bob nodded at you still with a small smile on his face.
“Sometimes it takes a while for the news to set in. I’ll leave you two to talk but if you need anything let me know.” You thanked the doctor, closing the door quietly behind him.
“Bob, I don’t understand. Are you not upset about this? Baby, you might never walk again, do you understand?”
“I understand. I already knew. When I woke up I couldn’t feel anything below my waist and the look on your face told me that my suspicions were right. I can’t remember exactly what happened. I can’t remember much from the past few days, to be honest.” You let out a broken sob and Bob reached forward for a hug. You placed your head gently on his chest and cried. How could he be so calm about this?
“It’s ok, Baby. Please don’t cry.”
“I’m sorry, I can’t help it.” You rubbed your eyes with the sleeve of your jumper, no longer caring if your makeup was smudged. “How can you be so calm?”
“Because I thought I was going to die and never see that beautiful face of yours again,” Bob said sincerely, a large smile gracing his lips. “Could you grab my coat, there’s something in there I want to give you.”
“Baby, you should be resting…”
“Please (y/n). Just do it. Stop going all nursie on me.” You both laughed at this. Whenever Bob was feeling slightly under the weather you always treated him like one of your patients, fussing over him.
You moved across the room, picking up Bob’s coat before taking your seat on the edge of the bed. He held it protectively against him, rummaging in the pocket, you saw him physically relax as he found what he was looking for. You cocked your eyebrow at him but he just smiled.
“So umm… I’m really sorry about how I acted the other night, it was childish. I was just upset but I shouldn’t have taken it out on you.” He had tears in his eyes and this caused you to start crying too, the events of the last 48 hours were catching up with you.
“It’s not your fault, Bob, it’s mine. If I hadn’t let Jared in, none of this would have happened. He said he just wanted to talk. I didn’t know he was going to kiss me.”
Bob grasped your hand as tightly as he could considering his frail state.
“I forgive you. It’s ok.” He beckoned you forward, kissing your lips gently. You tried to avoid the cut on his lip and you rested your hand carefully against the back of his neck, avoiding the bandage that was secured around his head. When you pulled back Bob gave you a crooked grin. “ I had something to ask you about and… well I guess the moment’s kind of ruined now,” he gestured to the room and you let out a soft laugh.
“But well, I guess there’s never going to be a perfect time because life is messy and it’s not perfect. Nobody is, I’m certainly not. I’ll always remember the saying from that film you like, ‘you like because and you love despite.’ I like you because you are an incredible person, (y/n) and I love you despite your obsession with the ‘Mission Impossible’ films.” You laughed, ever since your drive-through cinema date, you made Bob sit through all the films with you, multiple times.
“I love you so much and I don’t want to spend a day apart from you.” Bob took a deep, shaky breath, pulled a small box out of his pocket and presented it to you.
“So will you make me the happiest man in the world and say ‘yes’? Will you marry me?”
You gasped, your hand covering your mouth as you tried to contain your excitement. You tried to reply but the words just wouldn’t come. Bob sat there, his smile still on his lips but the longer it took you to reply the duller it became. You took a deep breath. “Yes,” you whispered but Bob heard you. “Yes,” you repeated a little louder, leaning forward and kissing him deeply. Bob laughed, pulling the ring from its box and pushing it onto your finger. It fitted perfectly. “I borrowed one of your other rings for size. I wanted it to be perfect.”
Bob was forever the hopeless romantic.
“This is perfect, Bob. I love you so much.” You kissed him again and he grinned widely up at you.
A knock at the door disturbed the comfortable silence that had fallen upon the room. Jake and Bradley stood awkwardly in the doorway, a large bunch of flowers in their hands and Jake had a small teddy bear in his other. You could tell that Jake had been crying and by the look of Bradley’s red face you could tell he was trying to stay strong for Jake.
“Sorry, are we interrupting?” Bradley asked awkwardly, looking between the two of you. You smiled at Bob as he replied, “ oh only my proposal to my girlfriend. SHE SAID YES!” Cheers erupted around the room and both Bradley and Jake hugged you tightly. Bradley shook Bob’s hand congratulating him, while Jake carefully hugged his best friend. Both men sat at the end of the bed, facing you both.
“Bob, I’m so sorry…” Jake began, choking slightly on his words. His eyes welled with tears again and Bradley held his hand tightly.
“Bob. I don’t even know what to say… I…”
“It’s ok guys,” Bob reached forward, taking your hand in his and squeezing it the best he could. “We’re going to get through this together.”
Jake sniffed loudly, wiping his nose in his jacket sleeve.”I don’t know how you can be so brave about this Bob. When (y/n) told us I couldn’t stop crying. This is so unfair, you don’t deserve this.” Jake gulped, struggling to look Bon in the eye.
Bob patted the side of and Jake moved to sit next to him. “Life isn’t fair, Jake. And yeah this is really shit but I guess I'm just glad that I'm alive. I'm glad I got to ask (y/n) to marry me and I'm glad that I'm still here with you all.” Bob looked at all three of you in turn. “I love you guys.”
“We love you too, Bob.” Bradley had moved round the bed and was now standing behind you with his hand on your shoulder. “And we are going to help you through this. Whatever you both need, we’re here for you.” You smiled weakly at Bradley in a silent thank you. Despite the good news you could help the painful feeling in your chest. It had numbed for a while when it felt like everything was ok but it wasn’t ok.
“Still congratulations to you both. I'm so for you both.” Bradley was admiring your ring and you saw him mouth ‘good job’ to Bob who was looking very pleased with himself. You should have known that Bradely helped pick out the ring. The room fell into a comfortable silence with Bradely and Jake occasionally talking while you stoked Bob's hair.
Bob’s parents and his sister arrived a little while later and you gave them some space, choosing to sit with Jake in the waiting room while Bradely went to find some coffee. You rejoined Bob in his room, talking to his parents. You had always loved Bob’s mum, she was one of the nicest people you could meet and you saw where Bob got his kind heart from. She was so pleased about the engagement and despite the heartbreak you had all gone through she gave you a big hug and a smile. Bob kept trying to crack jokes and you could tell he was doing it for everyone else’s sake so you tried to laugh along with him.
Dr Mitchell popped in again later to check on Bob and soon cleared everyone. “This is a hospital, not a circus.” But you could tell from the smile on his face that he didn’t really mind. He checked all of Bob’s vitals and explained that all being well and that if the tests all can back clear over the next few days Bob should make an almost full recovery. Dr Mitchell allowed you to stay the night with Bob, he wouldn’t normally but considering you were a nurse he thought Bob was in safe hands.
You curled up into Bob’s side, trying to avoid knocking his ribs. Bob sighed contently as you hummed to him.
“Is that Taylor Swift?” Bob asked quietly and you snorted, “maybe…”
“That’s ok, I’ve grown to love Taylor Swift too.” You soon heard soft snores from behind you and you tilted your head to see Bob, his eyes closed and his mouth slightly open. He looked so peaceful and at that moment it seemed like nothing from the last 48 hours had happened. You placed a small kiss on his cheek, smiling down at your fiancé. “I love you, Robert Floyd.”

"WANTED: MISSIONARY TO DO POLICE COURT WORK," Edmonton Bulletin. March 17, 1913. Page 1. ---- Public Meeting Held Yesterday in Empress Theatre - Number speakers are Heard - Chair is Occupied by Mayor Short. --- Robert Mitchell, of the Edmonton City Mission, urged the appointment of a police court missionary at a public meeting held in connection with the mission at the Empress Theatre afternoon yesterday.
"It is one of the worst jobs in the world," he said last night, "for any. body in my position to go to to the police station and interview any of the prisoners who may have been unfortunate enough. ugh to commit their first indiscretion. A policeman is always listening, and the prisoners won't talk under those circumstances."
In all probability the city council will be approached on the subject in the near future. If the council supplies the funds, Mr. Mitchell suggests that the ministerial association should be asked to find a competent official.
The suggestion was given strong support yesterday by Dr. Park, Dr. Whitelaw and Dr. Raymond Landry, who spoke from a professional standpoint; A. G. McKittrick, who is acting as business manager of the mi sion; and the Rev. J. E. Hughson, who voiced the favorable sentiment of the churches.Mayor Short presided at the meeting, and by his presence and words, showed the keen interest he took in the work.

#50 pretty please 😍
A soft one honestly, let's do this!!
101 ways to say i love you with actions
(50) Taking them on a surprise date
Chloe sighed heavily as she leant back in her chair, pinching the bridge of her nose as she tried to stave off the tension headache she could feel building behind her eyes. It had been a long, long day and Chloe was exhausted quite frankly. She loved her job, she loved being able to help so many people like this, but there were days like today when the strain of it and the reality of life in a busy ED really got to her.
A soft knock at the door to the lounge caused Chloe to lift her head, a tired smile gracing her lips as a familiar face appeared around the door. It was about the only face that could make her smile on days like this.
“Hey. You okay?”
Beca’s head was cocked as her own smile matched Chloe’s, blue eyes meeting bluer as Chloe nodded slightly, letting her pen fall from her hand to on top of the pile of paperwork in front of her.
“Yeah. Just tired.”
Beca stepped into the room, shutting the door quietly behind her before she walked over to Chloe, gently pulling her to her feet and into her arms.
“I know you.” Beca mumbled into her hair, “I know how you get when it’s kids. You don’t have to pretend with me.”
“I know.” Chloe sighed heavily, feeling the tears that she had been holding back all day start to come to the fore again, “I just... the day isn’t over yet. If I fall apart now I’ll have nothing left for the people that need it.”
“Okay.” Beca nodded a little, pressing a soft kiss into the crown of her head, “Want to get some lunch? We might not get another chance today...”
Chloe lifted her head, her forehead resting against Beca’s, smile finally reaching her eyes as she pressed her lips into hers, “That sounds nice. Really nice.”
Beca opened her mouth to speak, but what came out was a frustrated groan as the pager clipped to the waistband of her scrubs began to beep.
“God, I hate this thing...” She grumbled, pulling it from its place to read the message, “It’s been the biggest cockblock our relationship has faced.”
Chloe giggled, cupping Beca’s face in her hands as she pressed a soft kiss to her lips again, “Go. Go save lives Dr Mitchell. I’ll get you a sandwich to keep your strength up, we can have lunch together on our day off.”
“I guess.” Beca pouted a little, “You’d better finish those papers Beale. I want to sweep you off your feet the second our shift is done.”
“My aching feet are always grateful for that.” Chloe giggled softly, waving a little at Beca as she gave her a wink and walked quickly from the room to answer her page. She sunk into the chair again, turning back to her paperwork with her heart a little lighter and headache assuaged.
-----
“Chloe...”
Chloe had tears in her eyes as she continued her attempts at CPR, shaking her head a little as a pair of hands rested on her arm.
“Chloe she’s gone. Let her go.”
Aubrey smiled sadly at her as Chloe looked first at her and then back down at the young teenager beneath her furiously pumping hands.
“It’s been twenty five minutes since her heart stopped.” Aubrey continued to push gently, “Even if you get her heart going again...”
She trailed off as Chloe’s shoulder’s sagged a little, tears starting to roll down her cheeks as she faltered. Aubrey didn’t have to finish, she knew as well any of the doctors that there was no coming back from this. Chloe had to stop no matter how much she didn’t want to.
Sniffing hard, Chloe pulled away, wiping at her cheeks with the back of her hand, jaw clenched tightly. Aubrey rolled her shoulders back, clearing her throat a little to shake the lump of emotion from it.
“Time of death, 9:43 pm.”
Chloe swallowed hard as she shook her head a little, hands shaking a little as she glanced down and saw the blood on them, on her scrub top, her pants... there was so much of it.
“Chlo?”
Chloe barely registered Beca’s voice as her hands gently cupped her face, her eyes unfocused and searching as everything around her seemed to blur and buzz. Where had Beca come from, she wasn’t in here when they were...
“Hey. You’re okay.”
Beca’s thumbs gently stroked Chloe’s cheeks, Chloe’s breathing ragged as her trembling hands clenched and unclenched.
“It’s okay. I’m here now Chlo, you’re going to be okay.”
“T-there’s so much blood...” Chloe whispered, eyes closing tightly, “Beca...”
“It’s okay.” Beca pulled Chloe into her, holding her as tight as she dared as she pressed her lips into the crown of her head, “I’ve got you. It’s okay Chloe.”
Chloe let out a small sob as the world started to come back into focus again, her face buried in her neck as her arms wrapped tightly around Beca’s waist. God what an awful day it had been.
“I know.” Chloe couldn’t see the tears welling in Beca’s eyes as she held her against her, the gentlest of kisses pressed against her head, “I know. You’ve had a really shit day Chloe. But it’s done now. You’re going to shower, change, and then I’m taking you home.”
“Okay.” Chloe whispered, clinging to Beca still, “In a minute.”
“Of course.” A soft smirk tugged at Beca’s lips, “In a minute.”
-----
Chloe shut her locker with a sigh, letting her head fall against it with a soft thud. She closed her eyes, sniffing softly as the events of the day continued to replay in her mind. It had been one thing after the next, one awful accident after another that had left so many people in need of the help of her and her team, and she had been able to save so few of them...
“Hey...”
Chloe smiled softly as hands caressed her arms, turning as her eyes fluttered open and sinking into Beca’s embrace.
“You ready to go?” Beca asked, head resting against Chloe’s as she continued to caress her arm.
“Yeah.” Chloe nodded, “Take me home Becs.”
Beca smiled warmly, taking Chloe’s hand in hers as they wordlessly made their way through the ED, Chloe frowning a little as Beca lead them left towards the elevators rather than right to the exit.
“Becs?”
“Do you trust me?” Beca grinned, a twinkle in her eyes as she continued to slowly pull Chloe towards the elevator.
“With everything I have.”
Chloe nodded, biting her lip a little as she followed Beca into the elevator, head resting in the nape of Beca’s neck as it quickly sped through the floors. Chloe’s curious frown only deepened as the doors opened on the very top floor, following Beca out through the small series of offices and onto the rooftop terrace. They had been here so many times before, it was perhaps the only place in the whole hospital they could get any peace for a moment, but something about tonight felt different.
“C’mon.” Beca turned to Chloe, taking her hands in hers as she pulled her out onto the terrace, “I wanted to make you day a little less shit for you... I hope this’ll do, it was kinda short notice.”
Chloe’s eyes widened a little, tears welling in her eyes as she looked around her. God only knew how she had done it, but Beca had strung up a series of small fairy lights that twinkled alongside the stars in the sky, a warm glow falling over the picnic blanket that had been laid down. On it, was a bottle of wine and two glasses, and two takeout containers from the Italian place a few blocks away that Chloe loved.
“I know polystyrene containers don’t exactly scream romance...” Beca shrugged a little, watching Chloe carefully as she looked around at the lengths Beca had gone to, “But I just wanted to do something you’d like... something that might cheer you up...”
“Beca...” Chloe shook her head a little as she turned her attention back to her, “I- this is beautiful. Thank you.”
Chloe cupped Beca’s face in her hands, kissing her deeply, Beca’s arms quickly and easily winding around her waist. Chloe pulled away a little as the kiss ended, her forehead resting against Beca’s.
“Thank you Beca.”
Beca shrugged a little again, a sheepish smile on her lips as she gently brushed Chloe’s hair from her face, “Today’s been really bad, even by our standards. It’s the sort of day that has you questioning why you even do this job in the first place. I just wanted to remind you that it’s not always like that here. Sometimes things are actually pretty great.”
Chloe laughed softly, turning in Beca’s arms so that she was looking out at the picnic that she made for them, at the city that continued to move below them. She rested her head against Beca’s, her hand cupping her cheek.
“That’s true.” Chloe grinned a little, “Without this place, I never would’ve met you.”
“We’re trying to find good things about the hospital Chlo...” Beca teased, Chloe giggling as she kissed Beca’s cheek.
“Shut up.” Chloe shook her head a little, “You are the best thing this place has ever given me. I love you Beca, more than I could ever say.”
“I love you too.” Beca turned her head so that their foreheads were resting together, eyes locked, “Enough to do something super corny like this just to make you smile.”
“Well it worked.” Chloe stroked Beca’s cheek, “Thank you Beca. For always being there for me. I couldn’t do this job without you.”
“Are you kidding?” Beca shook her head, “You are the most kickass nurse practitioner I have ever met, that ED is held together only because we have you to keep us in shape.”
“And I’m strong enough to do that because of you. Because you make me feel strong.” Chloe cupped Beca’s face in her hands again, ensuring that Beca could see the deep sincerity in her eyes, “You, Dr Mitchell, are as much my life line as you are your patients. I’m so grateful you.”
Beca’s eyes were sparkling with tears as she swallowed the lump in her throat. Chloe had always had a way of making her feel better than she was, made her feel like a better doctor, a better girlfriend, a better person than she had ever hoped she could be. She would lost without her. Beca was never good with her words so instead she settled for a deep and loving kiss, hoping that it would convey even a fraction of what her heart held for Chloe.
“C’mon.” Beca cleared her throat a little, grinning at Chloe as she pulled back just enough to take her hands, “Dinner’s getting cold.”
Chloe settled down on the rug next to Beca, letting her head rest on Beca’s shoulder as they gazed out over the city, boxes of pasta in hand. It truly was a difficult job, perhaps the hardest one in their field, but moments like this? They made it all a little easier to bear.
