I love characters which are painfully human so so much. Especially characters who are non-human or treat themselves as if aren't human. Especially the second ones. Because no matter how much time you spend running from yourself, in the end you're still ultimately, painfully human. And I find beauty and excitement in that. I love being human.

Yesterday I came home with my mother. The road was scarily dark and the fog was making everything a little too dream-like, but every car we met turned off their main-beam headlights as my mother did and that felt painfully human. That we do not want to blindside each other; that we know the risks versus the comfort, and we always choose to lower the risk. The light of cars behind the hill of the road, between the rows of trees and never ending fields, felt something like divine.

I'd like to take a moment to point out to detractors of ships involving Laios who feel that "Laios wouldn't take any interest in people!" that he'd hyperfixated on Shuro so badly it was ruining the man's life lmao

Also I stole this ask just so I can post this fuggin weirdo I made smhh (I raise from the dead just to post an oc again LMAOAOAOAO)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hopefully this will be my last one in a long while I can live with 7 fuggin wh characters HHFHFUDJSNKSSJ- well- technically 8 if you include Betsy-
But to keep it (somewhat) short and sweet- my loser- a ye ol Milkman- Zachary Milksop (chronically lactose intolerant) and Betsy (a lil mascot moo sentient puppet)
Another character made almost spur in the moment again (like Mari) though thankfully not another bUG, but just some average human smhh. He’s a really simple guy, a loser, is as interesting as normal milk— he’s just the ye ol milkman who delivers you that gud shid smhh— enjoyer of the finer things in life (lunchables). A lil flirty and charming (in possibly the cringiest way possible) however he doesn’t really seem to pick up anyone besides the local cows that constantly harass him (and eats his pants). He enjoys watching them though, from v e r y m u c h afar——
hes just kinda, “that guy”
Also Betsy- a very sweet woman! She always greets everyone and has the friendliest extroverted personality ever! Always the type to bring (albeit tiny) gifts for her favorite neighbors and always leads when talking to anyone. Not like she would allow Zach to say anything anyway, she hates his polyester guts (and only him smhh)

I think one of the most surprising parts of transition, specifically going on testosterone, is just how... normal it felt to me. When I was watching other people go on testosterone and describe how they felt, I anticipated that I'd feel the huge emotions, the spark, I guess. But I didn't. If anything, I went from being a neurotic mess to being... normal. Almost painfully normal. It's like I've gotten a cloth and dusted off this thing I call my body.
I honestly think it's interesting how natural I feel on testosterone. I never really thought I could feel this normal, but I do. It's like I can stand in a crowd and not feel like eyes are watching me, like ants crawling on a log.

as much as I enjoy reading discourse on why this person and that person did that in mdzs, sometimes I feel like we think too much on them and it really is just… the characters are just… human… (referencing people in the main cast) They do things whatever they think is right and wrong, because of their own histories, upbringing and personalities. It’s inevitable that they clash with others, which escalates emotions and events. Their very superficial society doesn’t help at all. With everything coming together in a shitshow, this makes all their stories so damn painful and tragic.
This doesn’t mean that I excuse characters who inflict more harm on others. I acknowledge and don't want to take away whatever any character experienced. Being human doesn't excuse shitty behaviour. But still, I feel for them that they had to resort to/end up in their respective ways to make it through their loveless world. I want to focus on the greyness of humanity behind everything that happens in the story. One of the many thematic concerns that resonate with me is how much of us as humans are black and white (as such, we debate on the characters’ place on this spectrum, because of their actions). 不说黑白, Never black or white. Even if it nears the blackened end, it still never goes pitch black.
I say 人就是人,人就是这样 — People are people, people are simply like this. We all can be kind, we all curse out. We are all insecure about something. We laugh, we cry. We write love songs as much as easily as we write hateful messages. One day our loved ones and friends are around, and the next day, they aren’t anymore. There are times in our past that we can never return to and we can do nothing but move on with our own ways of coping, for what we think will be a better life for us. For better or worse.
Amidst all the viciousness and pettiness of the jianghu, mdzs touches on our tragedies and fallacies as people just trying to make sense of an unfeeling world, with unjust consequences and impartiality. Many of the mdzs characters try, and they fail. Isn’t this how our own reality is? How many of us have the privilege of a denouement to our own stories?
We can all have our personal opinions on the characters and their actions, but do not deny them their humanity or whatever shred of it is left.

Thinking about de-aged Bruce via magical shenanigans being a bit of a menace. He will bite you if given the chance, and will draw blood. Slippery as an eel to catch. Don't even think you can corner him in his own home, he knows every single secret room and deep tunnel in the manor. Your eyes are scratch-able to him. Try telling he's the future and he's demanding you tell him who killed his parents. Can't tell him? Alright then, you're lying. He would've found out by now if this really the future.

i see your “wu and garmadon started aging because they were separated/in different realms” and raise you;
its not just about them growing older. wu gives up immortality and becomes more human, less god, while garmadon starts turning into some sort of eldritch horror. into something inhuman. idk idk its just. such a wide divide.

I’m hesitant to wade into the potential discourse here, but I’ve seen a lot of talk about abusers and abuse and excusing abusers and who is enacting the worst violence against whom.
Here’s my thing. Anne Rice does a lot of work (in my opinion) in her novels to show how far removed vampires are from humanity and human morals. I think some of that is shown in relationships like Louis and Claudia’s relationship (post vampirism), or Lestat and Gabrielle’s relationship (post vampirism). I think some of that is shown in great acts of violence (Armand’s proclivity for dungeons, Lestat in That One Scene, Akasha…as a whole). There’s pages and pages and pages of Tale of the Body Thief where Lestat complains about how much being human again sucks ass.
These are beings who, more often than not, murder at least ONE thinking, feeling, sentient person each night to sustain their preternatural bodies. I’m not going to split hairs about their morality towards each other. They’re all mass murdering, blood sucking fiends. They were each conscripted into an inherently violent existence. And not ONLY is their existence inherently violent, the greatest pleasure they experience is intrinsically linked to literal murder. Their joy and their lives are explicitly sustained by death. And they propagate from loneliness and desire, which is frequently suggested to be of greater depths and intensity than the breadth of human experience. And they frequently commit abhorrent acts against each other for those same reasons.
I guess what I’m getting at is, I don’t know if it’s fair to use “who’s your favorite monster” as a litmus test for someone’s morality. Rolin literally described us as “beautifully unwell” like yesterday.*
And I’m not saying we shouldn’t discuss or explore these themes; I think fiction is (generally) a low stakes place to contemplate and analyze these themes. I think it can be a way for victims to explore their trauma in a safe and controlled environment. I think it can be a great opportunity for introspection. But at the end of the day, I’m not going to assume someone is an abuse apologist or something because they enjoy a character who did an awful thing or are a fan of a specific ship.
*((He also described us as “rabid” and I definitely recognize some people are using “I like this character” to condone, vehemently excuse, or deny wrong doings, which isn’t really what I’m talking about here. If you have a favorite vampire, your fave is problematic.))

what is it with trigun anime adaptations and having to dehumanise knives in order for him to be evil ,,
in tri98 hes just sorta not given much reason to be evil - yes he was verbally and at points physically abused by one member of the crew but not enough of that is shown for the big fall to feel justifiable . he just sorta went off the rails with very little reason to imo , although i cant really blame the show for this as the Tragic Childhood vol of trimax wasnt out yet so they had quite little material to work from
HOWEVER in tristamp they decided on this weird plot of him physically being ‘less human’ like he doesnt need to eat to survive , and personality wise seems very unconcerned with humans . a lot of the tristamp interpretations of the characters differ significantly from their maximum counterparts but this way of portraying knives as well as how his arrogance and superiority beliefs are portrayed … kinda makes my skin crawl . i just really dont know why they did this - a character doesnt have to be ‘not human’ to be evil , and i felt like it ruined knives’ character quite a lot because trimax knives is so different
trigun maximum shows that knives as a child was extremely nervous about being accepted by humans and even shows him crying from relief and happiness after he meets a human other than rem for the first time and he almost instantly accepts him . knives’ character is so interesting in trimax because he was SO caring as a child and that changed drastically because of the trauma he was put through , you definitely feel more of the impact of the tesla incident in maximum
and although knives IS non human , he takes a very human perspective on things , he feels very human emotions . hatred is an inherently human thing . evil is an inherently human thing . a character doesnt need to have inhuman emotions to hate humanity and this is where the anime adaptations miss the mark on knives’ character because they reinforce the idea that he needs to be MORE alien in order to hate humanity
