let's talk about El's queercoding because her calling women pretty was crazy and the first time she saw couples was on tv which were all straight so she probably thought that's what she was supposed to be, Millie said that in s5 El will figure out who she is without anyone else. so is she a lesbian? pansexual? idk but she's a sapphic

also the "try before you deny" in s4, Mike didn't want to try the pizza and called it blasphemous because he grew up in a conservative and homophobic town (but when he tried it he actually said it was good, when the camera panned back to Will) while El grew up in a lab so she doesn't have any internalized homophobia or bias and she tried it without complaining and said it was good

El turns toward Argyle and asks, "Argyle, are you gay?" She sounds the word out.

Hopper chokes on his drink.

"Oh my god I'm so sorry I just taught her what gay means and she doesn't know about-" Will clambers to apologize but Argyle speaks over him, "I don't really vibe with labels, but I guess so, little dude." He ruffles El's hair and she giggles.

Will's mouth drops open and he stares at him. Jonathan is watching the exchange with slightly raised eyebrows.

"Well," Hopper clears his throat. He doesn't follow that up with anything. He just looks a little stunned.

"You guys are cool, right?" Jonathan finally speaks up, sounding a little more nervous than Will expected.

Joyce smiles warmly at him. "Yes, of course. It was just unexpected." She chuckles.

Jonathan looks relieved. "In that case," he shrugs, "I'm gay too. Full gay."

Will drops his fork. Jonathan looks at him and grins. "Me too." Will blurts in a moment of impulse. No one looks all that surprised. Rude.

"Me three." El adds, eyes bright.

"Me four!" Mike says from under the table where he was catching scraps in his mouth like a dog.

"What the fuck?"

Scientifically Proven, Chapter 5: Analysis

Dating a girl was different then dating a boy. Or maybe dating Max was just different then dating Mike. Sure in a lot of ways the two were actually very similar, but there were also some clear differences. They both liked holding hands, but Max was more touchy, and it seemed to take a different form than it had with Mike. Of course they would kiss sometimes, but it wasn’t Max’s go to the way it had been for Mike. Instead her affection came in the form of a lot of smaller things, seeming to constantly want some sort of physical connection between them. Not that El was complaining. She loved the feeling of Max next to her. It was just interesting.

Only when they were alone though. In public Max wouldn’t do anything more then hold hands. She didn’t blame Max for being careful, it wasn’t like when she was dating Mike and he was being overly cautious. They’d talked about it extensively when Max had first proposed the idea. There were legitimate dangers if they were to affectionate in public. In private all bets were off, and eventually they would tell the rest of the party, but until then it had to be a secret. El understood why, and if that was the trade off for dating Max she’d take it in a heartbeat. Dating Max in secret was better then not at all. But that didn’t mean it didn’t suck sometimes or she never missed it.

We need more bisexual rep, which is why I headcanon Steve, Eddie, Lucas, Max, and El as bisexual. I'm still unsure about Mike. I think he wouldn't label himself, but I'm not sure. I sometimes lean toward him being gay. Sometimes, I lean towards him being bisexual, and sometimes, I lean towards him being pansexual. I can't get a read on him. He's definitely queer. I also could kind of headcanon him as aromantic like Nancy. I headcanon Dustin as asexual along with El, and I could also see Dustin being pansexual. For me, Argyle is a trans man and pansexual. Hop and Joyce are bi4bi like Steddie. Jonathan is definitely pansexual to me. Scott Clarke is gay to me. Wayne is another question mark to me. He might be one who doesn't like labels like my dad. There's something about Wayne who reminds me of my dad a little bit. Well, a mixture of Wayne and Hopper. Tommy H is gay and Carol is a lesbian. They're beards, okay? Karen Wheeler is a frustrated closeted bisexual (I refuse to believe she lusted after Bully. It didn't happen for me because it didn't add anything to the story.) Jason Carver is a deeply closeted gay man (I still hate him). Yeah, I definitely headcanon Chrissy as bisexual but I can see her being a lesbian or pansexual too. Hell, I could see her being someone who doesn't label herself either. The conservatives hiding behind their religious guilt hate Eddie because he's not afraid of hiding who he is. Anyway, no one in Hawkins is straight. Stranger Things? More like Queerer Things.

Canon: Robin Buckley is a lesbian, Will Byers is gay, and Vickie is bisexual.

them making Elumax canon would be everything because the "you touch her again and i will kill you again" was so romantic? and Max is the person who made El realize that to figure out what you like you have to try things (which was so queercoded) and she was the happiest with her and let's talk about El's queercoding because her calling women pretty (like Nancy in s1 and B*lly's mom in s3) was crazy and the first time she saw couples was on tv which were all straight so she probably thought that's what she was supposed to be and that's who she was supposed to like (so she might be pansexual? a lesbian? idk but she's obviously a sapphic) and Max saying "there's more to life than stupid boys" makes me think she's bisexual because Will got "a day free of girls" because he's gay and Mike got "boys only" because he's gay. plus Millie said that at the end of s4 El realized she's her own superhero and that in s5 she will realize who she is without Mike (probably after the break up)

and the fact that originally in the script she was the one who was supposed to hold Max in her arms?

STRANGER THINGS VOL2 SPOILERS

No, I never expected Steddie, Ronance or Byler or, hell, even ELMAX to happen. its a show in the 80s the fact that we have 2 queer (3 technically but Eddie was never confirmed, just severely hinted at) characters in the gang is INSANE on its own. God knows 4 queer ships would NEVER happen unless its a show/book/movie specifically about being queer.

El was the one who finally brought up. That was probably the least surprising part of the entire night, she’d always been the most likely to say when something was bugging her. She was always more direct, less likely to dance around a subject the way Lucas might or ignore it the way Max did. It was one of Max’s favorite things about her. One of Lucas’s too.
