I've had this idea in my head ever since I first played as a Dragonborn or Tiefling in BG3, and I have no idea why it isn't discussed more. But what if a Tiefling! (Or Dragonborn, whichever you prefer) Tav shows affection by coiling their tail around their s/o? Like they're close by and are just overwhlemed with love and adoration, and their tail just kinda wraps around their lovers leg? Or wrist or anywhere they can reach! Like Tav is hugging Astarion and then without really realizing it, their tail coils around him as well? Idk, I just think the concept is super sweet/cute. I would love to see this as a small story, or even just head cannons if you want to explore the idea as well. No pressure, obviously, ignore it if you wish to ❤️ hope you're doing well!

Many a time you’ve run into an old friend and accidentally lashed them in sheer glee, loosely wrapping your tail to whichever limb you can to keep them close as you agree to wander the local bustling market together

And so when you begin to bond with your fellow escapists as you search for a cure for your unfortunate parasite problem, it’s inevitable

It takes Astarion a little aback when the wine steers you towards him.

A few weeks in each others’ presence, sure. A night or two; possibly three, maybe even four at this point, of mutual enjoyment under the stars. Frequent back and forth exchanges while on the road, bantering like old friends. You give him your neck, he offers you moral support.

But on a night where the joy is positively spilling from every cup in camp, you step to him?

He’s unsure whether to be flattered or cautious.

If you’re to end your arrangement, surely tonight - where the conversation is so effusive, so effortless across your party - would be the optimal time to do so. Laugh it away as a lapse in judgement between ‘old friends’, as you often joke, and drift from him to a more viable prospect as the coming days pass. Leave him as the least amicable in camp once more. He’d understand.

Not that he’d like it.

But he’d understand.

Or, he’d try to. He might be a little upset if Lae’zel wins Lady Congeniality over him, but it’s not the end of the world.

He’d have to hope the group still would still want to keep him around of course. Be a little nicer to Gale. Offer to help Karlach carry your packs between camps. 

What is he offering you if not his nimble fingers? Maybe he went too hard on gunning for you. Or not hard enough, perhaps?

You quirk a brow as you snap your fingers in his face, wine sloshing gently in your other hand.

Clearly his face is now showing his displeasure.

“You ok? Hello?”

“Oh! Yes, my sweet. Lost in thought.” 

He waggles his fingers and lifts his goblet to toast alongside yours. To new friends.

“I must say - you being lost in thought is entirely unusual. Still wondering about the left handed tongs Gale sent you searching for earlier?” You laugh warmly. He scowls.

“I don’t eat! I haven’t eaten for two hundred years. What use would I have for tongs in a dungeon, darling?’

He sips.

‘A fool’s errand in very poor taste, if you ask me.”

You still. He pauses.

He’s feeling sour, and he’s ruined it for you. Sapped the joy from your evening. Gods.

He wracks his brain for ways he can come back into favour. 

Suggest other things he’d like to taste in order to clear his palate. He hasn’t eaten in two hundred years, and he’s absolutely famished. Whet your appetite a little. Win you back round.

“I can hear your brain whirring, you know.” You whisper, leaning close.

He freezes. Can you see it? Through the tadpole? His horrid scheming?

And you do the most unexpected thing.

Your arms come around his torso to envelop him in a tight hug.

You aren’t fervently clutching at his waist, running fevered hands over his abdomen or pulling yourself close just to feel his body against yours.

It’s soft. Clandestine almost. He doesn’t know how to react. 

“I do so adore you, you know? You make this sordid little adventure a little more enjoyable each day.’ 

You hum. Your head falls to his chest, your tail wrapping around his leg steadily.

‘You can talk to me about these things if you want to. If you figure out what you want to say. I’m here.”

He wouldn’t have anticipated a single one of your actions in the face of his sullen behaviour this evening.

Yet the one that touches him most is the tail now secure around his leg. 

A reminder of every tired day you flit joyously against him as you trek together, the curiosity and jubilee when he powers through a wholly trapped room with nothing but a single tool and a flourish - for good measure, of course.

Your little happy whips as you stumble on dire-needed pouches of gold alongside him. His lockpicking skill that you find oh-so enthralling, providing for the party in making use of his talent.

And every once in a while when you’re aside him, the way this happens.

A moment that reminds him of the beauty within bodies past their use for sexuality. How genuinely happy those little mindless touches make him. How his undead heart could maybe be cajoled into beating again over this one.

He coughs. Smiles. Brings his arms around you, though delayed.

Head resting atop yours. 

“You’re full of surprises aren’t you, treasure?”

Your tail flits against his leg in a happy shiver.

“Naturally, darling.”

You imitate him in a way that makes you both laugh like fools. Toast once again.

Maven! Small guy KEENLY aware of the crushing weight of responsibility. Director of Mission Control after Odyssey’s ‘retirement’. Doing their best.

-> Following after their mentor, Maven is the current head of Mission Control, a small team tasked with monitoring the status of expeditions, keeping the portal stable, and maintaining the technological systems that assist in these efforts. Maven’s the one calling the shots. In the case of a hazardous situation, Maven has to make an assessment with what information they have access to and decide what to prioritize. They’re inclined to recall the field team when faced with any untested issue, but the current owners/investors of the whole project aren’t too happy when supplies get wasted ‘for nothing’.

-> In practice they usually just go along with whatever Odyssey advises to the absolute best of their ability. And they Will Not complain.

-> They’re kind of usually too worried about have a personality for the entire duration of a mission. They fixate on the job and fret over it 24/7 until everyone makes it back in one piece.

-> When they can relax, Maven’s got some hobbies. They’re into embroidery, playing niche card and board games, and enjoys science fiction and mystery stories.

-> Their cousin, Perseverance, bullies them relentlessly for being a nerd </3. Even though Perse is the one who writes essays on oscillating genes, or the influences that parasites exert throughout an ecosystem, just for fun, so. >:(

-> Maven and Perse didn’t grow up very close in both a physical, spacial sense as well as an emotional one. Their teens is when they started to connect, when their families moved closer again. Maven babysat fairly often and helped her out with schoolwork, leading to Perse taking an interest in Maven’s aspirations and making them her own.

-> She’s a grown woman now and can look after herself, but Maven’s still worried for her now that she’s joined the team officially. They don’t want to get her killed. But then she goes and pulls some shit to make them reconsider all the effort they’re putting into worrying. Like showing Maven a big fuckoff moth she found by releasing it into their room. Again. (..it was a cool moth though)

-> Maven has to babysit Perse’s terrariums once she starts joining expeditions. Maven does not like crawlies.. but they are committed to upholding the highest standard of care for these creatures. They were reaaaaaally anxious about it the first time, but Perse said they did a great job, and they kind of grew to enjoy it? The feeling of being able to do right by these little animals and keep them safe. They don’t mind it, actually.

-> Maven was just stepping into the leadership role on that fateful day they lost contact with the field team. It was supposed to be straightforward, one of the first missions they’d be commanding with little input from Odyssey, up until it all went very wrong. When the storm hit, they scrambled to manage the crisis. In the time it took to restore communication, Maven was certain they’d gotten three people killed. Instead, they just got one person killed. Like it really makes a difference. They are quite certain that Opportunity’s disappearance and presumed death are their fault and they’re not dealing with it very well.

-> They look up to and respect their mentor a lot and honestly it’s just.. easier to let em overstep and take some responsibility away from them. Maven feels Complicated about it. Relieved, sure. Patronized too. They feel crushed that Odyssey doesn’t seem to trust their ability.. but is e really wrong? They’ve already proven to be inadequate. They’re not sure they’ll ever move past this.

EXPERIENCING TROUBLE SLEEPING?

The red neon of the sign flickers behind your eyes as green after image. You don't understand the problems of the "outside" until you realize, resting your head on a plush hotel pillow, that you are dreaming with your eyes open.

The starburst layers of plaster on the ceiling are there to hide building angle imperfections, and you see them clearly from your paralyzed state.

You can't move. The digital clock's numbers reflect off the television screen backwards: 2:00 AM witching hours.

You look around, because you know you are dreaming, and you strain your body to try and throw yourself awake.

A dry cracking sound from above you stops the fruitless attempts, plaster dust raining down on your skin.

The shapes in the plaster move.

They move.

You take a moment to focus your eyes, wide and unblinking to re-align your perceptions and make sure, but you watch one of the bursts move like bones under skin. You watch the lumps in the plaster slowly begin to squirm. It's a slow undulation that gets more and more reactive as the minutes tick on.

And you think of eggs hatching when one of the shapes cracks open.

You watch something heavy spill out of it, and hear a wet sound on your mattress, a thump that partially hits your paralyzed arm.

You strain to move your eyes, your heart racing.

The body on your arm is long, and thin. A dratini whose skin is slick with yellow filth, and whose scales move with worms creeping between their crevices'. You look back up, and you see more cracks in the ceiling.

Your dratini companion seizes, and you feel it still on you.

You hear more thumps, and you feel wet, infected shapes hit your body.

They pile high, the parasites slipping away from them, and onto you.

And the last thought you have before your alarm blares is that they have crawled into you too.

Clair is fast asleep, until she isn't.

Azure eyes fly open, but the tamer isn't really awake, and she knows it. Perhaps that's the worst part about this whole ordeal: her full and complete awareness that she is trapped here, caught up in a dreamscape that oscillates between the real and the imagined, until everything blends together. How nauseating.

Still, Clair has always been a fighter--often solving her issues with an overpowering use of force--and this predicament is no exception. She bucks, thrashes against the plush bedspread, fingers clawing into the sheets, but an invisible weight seems to pin her down with ease, crushing her chest and stifling her snarled shouts. (No one is out there, anyways.)

When the popcorn ceiling undulates, pulses, the proud tamer stares straight upwards, stubbornly refusing to bow towards whoever is running this twisted, tortuous game.

And then the plaster void seems to split open overhead, like a ghoulish portal, and the first diseased Dratini falls free, striking Clair in the face. The wheezing, shuddering dragon flops across her chest like a displaced fish, soulful eyes wild with pain and desperation.

It's mercifully undersized, but there are more. More and more and more.

The mutated, illness-racked Dratini almost seem to drip from their nightmarish source, their languid, serpentine shapes falling blindly onto their restrained savior. Clair groans, beginning to gasp as the living weight piles up, painfully pressing down onto her ribcage. She moves to push the little dragons away, but her shoulders stay stubbornly locked into place. A lashing tail finds feral purchase around her throat, and she chokes. This is hell.

Clair closes her eyes, shuts them tight, and that's how she avoids seeing the horde of approaching parasites that gleefully free themselves from the Dratini upon landing. She can feel them, though, skittering across her pale features, finding new sanctuaries everywhere as they voraciously examine their fresh host. (Better me than the Dratini.)

It's all too much, too much even for her. The relentless madness of this situation drains the remaining fight from Clair's resilient bones, and the proud tamer can only curl herself up miserably as the falling tangle of parasite-ridden Dratini continue to bury her alive. It's getting so hard to breathe. Enough. Please.

EXPERIENCING TROUBLE SLEEPING?

Back in the real, a slumbering Clair twitches within her cocoon of sweat-soaked sheets, her alarm ringing uselessly on the nightstand. Just outside the hotel window, the first vestiges of a merciful sunrise prompt a nearby neon billboard to power down for the day.

🗿 XII - The Hanged Man : Allowing what will happen to happen, accepting the future, pausing to reflect, sacrifice and martyrdom.

In baldur's gate 3 canon, Feilan is constantly oscillating between radical acceptance of the mindflayer parasite (which, mind you, has a distinctly fatalist quality to it, and is born more-so out of pessimism and a 'yanno? this might as well happen to me' mindset rather than a genuine love for the damned thing), and deep set existential panic and the feeling of being violated. She would absolutely try to paint herself as very nonchalant about it- 'allowing what will happen to happen', if you will, and only occasionally snapping, blowing up, having a panic attack, etc about the whole matter- she's absolutely someone who bottles up emotions until she explodes. In that sense, pausing to reflect is... not her thing very often. While she does tend to be incredibly cautious (to a fault, even, as it leads to inaction on her part), she's.... not as keen on reflection or looking at things too deeply. It would require her to look at her own emotions and motivations much too closely for comfort. Tldr; she pauses in matters of physicality and safety, but is entirely impulsive and non reflective emotionally.

Sacrifice and martyrdom are extremely tasty in terms of Feilan however, so they get their own paragraph. She would LOVE to die a martyr- truly. Her self esteem and sense of self worth are, frankly, abysmal- and while she tends to be overly cautious and keenly concerned with saving her own hide most of the time, she also inherently devalues her life in comparison to her companions. Her planned romance is currently Shadowheart, and I can already tell that Feilan would happily die for her (living for her? she would find that harder). This also gets into discussion of butch lesbian identity and perceived self worth, which is a whole other can of worms, but that undertone is... very present. Some of these themes come up in her backstory as well- being born to a half elven woman in Luskan, having her mother leave when she was still very young, being raised by her older sibling, and then later them leaving- while all of this counts more as 'loss' rather than sacrifice properly, it definitely has shaped her into her current form- how she loves, how she sees herself, how she knows to show love.

However since you are still archiving the events, I want to share with you what I sent to glassguillotine, who told me to kill myself. Is that okay? I said "Hello, it is Toki Cube anon. I wanted to apologize for the hurt I've caused this community and especially you. I know you've said in discord I ruined your birthday and I am deeply sorry. That said it hurts me that you would tell me to kill myself. I mean no harm and no hurt for anyone with my requests, but I have not done more than leave a like on any of the art because I fear people want to hurt me. I do not know why everyone assumes I wanted the pictures to be sexually explicit, I did not. I am fine with all the jokes, they are funny. I'm not sure how to feel about this from the archival standpoint, as on one hand, this does help unravel the mystery a bit, but on the other hand, I will admit this feels a little bit like unintentional triangulation. Which, honestly, I've used worse tactics in a self-unaware manner while completely emotionally wrecked, so I don't blame you. However, I will not let it go unacknowledged.

We do intend to publish this to have your voice be heard. And honestly, this mostly reads like... just a mistake? I don't know, even if it wasn't intended to be fetish-farming, it sounds like you got wrapped up in things and needed to dial it back a bit. Like you thought it'd make a good running gag or something and didn't realize what it came off as. ...Are you a minor, by any chance? Because that would explain it being intended as a joke, but unintentionally reading as fetish farming; something you were potentially unaware even existed.

But, in all honesty, if it was fetish stuff, general consensus - within our system and in the fandom - is to just commission as replied to in this ask you sent to pipartuuli.

It's because fetish farming is something artists really have to look out for, if this was fetish related, because like... you know, something more on the innocuous side like this when it's intended for fetish purposes isn't exactly something all artists consent to. DIY functional oscillators

Signal distortion induced by electronic devices, primarily amplifiers, could be either undesirable or useful.

When we play back an audio recording, we want it to sound as close to the original as possible. Or sometimes, we want to add just a smidge of tube distortion.

On the other hand, magnetic recording on tape and mechanical recording on vinyl, by their nature, significantly alter the sound; therefore, distortions are deliberately added into the circuits of recorders and playback equipment so that, in the end, the resulting audio signal turns out to be indistinguishable from what has been recorded.

In addition, volume controls are equipped with loudness compensation to account for human hearing abilities.

Mobile pocket audio devices have tiny speakers, and their power amplifiers are specifically designed to add bass and limit treble so that the sound is deeper and less squeaky.

Multi-way speaker systems have filters, and sometimes even separate amplifiers, that slice the sound signal into frequency bands for each dedicated speaker: subwoofer, low-frequency, mid-frequency, and tweeter. These can also be considered deliberately created distortions.

Finally, processing an electric guitar signal requires numerous fine-tuned distortions. They form a wonderful guitar tone. But if we simply plug the best electric guitar into a hi-fi amplifier, we'll be disappointed.

One can also identify a malfunction by the specific distortions of the signal and, by tracking the signal flow, specify the location of the malfunction in a complex circuit.

A device that allows you to see distortions is called an oscilloscope. But having an oscilloscope is not enough; we will also need a standard waveform signal generator. Today, we will assemble three such generators.

So-called standard waveforms are sine, triangle, and square. Devices that generate such signals are called function generators.

A sine wave is the simplest signal, but it is the most difficult to create without an LC resonant tank, using only RC circuits. A pure sine wave oscillates one frequency; it is needed to determine the harmonics the circuit adds to the signal.

For example, in this image from the post about the tube amplifier, we see that the upper half-wave is wide and rounded, and the lower half-wave is narrow and pointy. This indicates the presence of a second harmonic, which makes tube amplifiers sound so beautiful.

A triangular waveform could be created by a ramp voltage generator. Such a signal allows one to see nonlinear distortions as lines bend on the oscilloscope screen.

Bending them a certain way brings the triangle line closer to a sinusoid. This is exactly how the function generators on microchips that we are studying today are designed.

An ideal square wave consists of vertical and horizontal lines. Looking at the flow of such a signal, one can see the frequency-dependent deviations, interference, and parasitic processes.
