Phoenix! On-and-off member of the EEG field team. A self-employed mechanic and electrician otherwise (and local dilf)
-> Until recently Phoenix wasn’t a super official nor consistent member of the team. He maintains that he’s not one of The Scientists, he’s a maintenance guy and an outdoorsman and he’s good for lugging supplies around the strange alien wilderness. In recent years though he’s around a lot more often and participates in most expeditions. Can’t hurt to have more eyes looking out for them.
-> As a teen, Phoenix pursued sciences in school, taking some of the same classes as friends like Tune and Odyssey, but Phoenix ended up dropping out when he couldn’t keep up with the work. It stung at the time and they have a tendency to discredit their own intelligence as a result, but despite this they’re content with the path their life’s taken.
-> Generally a casual and laidback kinda guy. One of the only folks on the team who has a healthy relationship with their emotions. Dude knows how to cope. that one post like ‘dude i’m emotionally vulnerable as shit i’ll cry on any of you’ that’s Phoenix-core.
-> He enjoys the fruits of hard work as much as anybody else but he’s a big advocate for the importance of rest and leisure. Can’t be giving it 100% all of the time or you won’t have anything left to give. You gotta find time to take it easy and enjoy where you’re at.
-> Phoenix looooves camping and outdoor recreation. They try to rope their friends and family into joining him out in the wilderness a couple times a year. The normal wilderness, working in the Otherworld doesn’t count.
-> While he’s not one to butt in on other people’s problems uninvited, he’s always got advice on hand if asked. Sure, some of it’s bullshit. It can’t all be gold.
-> Phoenix has been broken up with an unfortunate number of times. Amicable breakups, no hard feelings, but man this guy is unlucky with his romantic endeavours. Two of his coworkers are past exes (but remain good friends with him thankfully).
-> Phoenix an uncle to Maven and Perseverance, through being friends with their parents rather than blood relation. Perse in particular he was able to spend a lot of time with through her childhood and the two are very close. She takes after him in regards to extroverted personalities and enjoying physical activities like hiking and sports. They’ve got a good understanding of each other and a very playful relationship. There’s more distance between Maven and Phoenix, but they still have a good relationship. Phoenix is less sure of how to interact with them, how to tell when Maven just needs a little prompting to get outside their comfort zone and build confidence vs when Maven really does not want to be involved and just wants time alone. Phoenix is just trying to do right by the both of them.

I am so the cause of one of these stories:
Fake Christmas tree needles…in late summer..
the thing about working as a housekeeper is that sometimes I will be called to clean a room that is in such a state that it gives me pause.
The thing about being a housekeeper at a Hospital is that it is not the things that would usually be concerning that leave me with questions.
Like if I go clean a room and it is just covered in blood, I'm not all "where did all this blood come from" that would be silly. It came from inside the patient and they were already in a hospital so they're probably mostly fine hopefully.
In fact "Inside the patient" is where most of the potentially concerning stuff I have to deal with comes from. Vomit? That's from inside the patient. Urine? Feces? Inside the patient baby. Needles full of unidentified drugs? That was supposed to go inside the patient but I guess they frogot.
But when I go to clean a hospital room and it is full of Sand... Did that come from inside the patient? I hope not. Why is there so much sand? Where did it come from? Was there some kind of terrible beach accident?
I have many questions and I'm scared of the answers.

hi omg i got so excited when i saw you were doing egon spengler x reader aaaa! could you do egon and an personality opposite reader? he's all serious and deadpan while she's happy and upbeat (it'd be cool if she was the new girl in the team and had a crush on him). sort of like a "she fell first, he fell harder" situation?
The Sunlight On My Spores (Egon Spengler X Reader)
Masterlist
Request Something!
Summary: The new addition to the ghostbuster’s team is a ray of sunshine, and she has her sights on a scientist with an interest in fungi and the supernatural.
A/N: AHHHHH ive been waiting for an egon/ghostbuster request!!! since i havent written for egon before, i hope i get his character right lol also idk shit about science/paranormal jargon. and idk if eegs is spelled the way it should but it’s pronounced ee-gs, like egon but s instead of on
***
Joining the Ghostbusters definitely brought amusement and hecticness to your daily life. Although you handled more of the office work, you had seen your fair share of the paranormal action. Namely Slimer, who would get ahold of your lunch every now and then.
Ray was the first on the team that you had met, being the one to interview you. You liked to call him ‘Sun-Ray’ for his bright and positive personality.
You were pretty much hired on the spot, mainly because Janine had been complaining about the lack of extra help. But as long as you had a steady paycheck, you didn’t mind. Ray had immediately showed you around the firehouse. You met Peter and Winston on the main floor, the former being flirtatious and the latter being more polite in his welcoming.
Then Ray took you up to the second floor, where the dining area, sleeping quarters, and lab were.
That’s where you met Egon Spengler. His tall frame was hunched over one of the lab’s many workbenches, doing some soldering work on a proton pack.
“Spengs!” Ray said with a wide grin, bringing you over to the scientist. The man in question set down the soldering iron and straightened up, adjusting his glasses as he turned around.
“What is it, Ray?” He asked in a somewhat monotone voice. He glanced at you, furrowing his brows slightly before looking back at his friend. “Who’s this?”
“This is Y/n, our new recruit!” Ray replied enthusiastically, patting you on the shoulder.
“Ah, so you’ve filled the new receptionist position.” He said, giving you a once-over. “Janine will be happy to hear that.”
“It’s nice to meet you, Dr. Spengler.” You greeted with a smile. He outreached his hand, which you grasped firmly and gave a few shakes. His hand was slightly calloused, probably from his work, but still felt nice.
“Egon’s fine.”
“I’ve read a few of your papers on paranormal studies; I think the whole thing’s fascinating.”
Some of his research papers weren’t the only thing of Egon’s you’ve seen. Ever since the Ghostbusters had gained some popularity, you couldn’t help but find him quite cute, spending an extra few seconds looking at him whenever a picture of the group was in your newspaper or on your television screen.
And he was definitely even more handsome in person.
“Well then, you’ve definitely come to the right place.” Ray grinned, but your focus was still on the spectacled man before you.
“Thank you, that’s very flattering.” Although his voice was a bit monotonous, the response was genuine. “Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to check on my spore samples.”
“Spore samples?” You asked with curiosity.
“Yes. I collect spores, molds, and fungus.”
“That sounds like fun!” Egon was a bit taken aback by your response. That wasn’t a reply he was used to hearing. And the fact that you sounded genuine and peppy was even more confusing to him.
Ray, wanting to show you the rest of the firehouse, started to pull you away. You gave a quick goodbye to Egon before bounding down the stairs after Ray. Meanwhile, Egon needed to take a second to get his befuddled thoughts straight before he could tend to his samples.
***
You fell into a routine pretty quickly. The job was mainly making appointments and ensuring the boys were ready for a call, scheduled or unexpected. Occasionally, you filed paperwork or got coffee for everyone at odd hours in the day. But because the job was shared between you and Janine, you often had at least a little bit of free time.
“Got another one!” Peter announced as he stepped out of the Ecto-1 that had just rolled into the firehouse, holding up a slightly smoking trap. As Winston and Ray emerged from the car, you wondered if Peter had been wearing a poncho because he was the only one not covered at least halfway in goo. “He was a real slimy one, too.”
“I can tell.” You laughed as Ray and Winston peeled out of their uniforms with a grimace.
“You’re back.” Egon’s voice almost made you jump; you hadn’t realized he had come down from the lab. He walked until he was standing next to you, holding his hand out towards the ghost trap. “I’ll take that, Peter. Ray, come with me, I want to discuss the containment facility with you.”
“What about it?” Ray asked as he closed his locker. Egon brushed past you to walk down to the basement, Ray close behind.
Not wanting to be caught staring at Egon’s leaving form, you whipped back around to the car. It seemed that Winston and Ray weren’t the only ones who got slimed. Poor Ecto.
“I think I’m gonna clean the car.” You thought aloud. “You guys don’t have any more calls until tomorrow.”
“Oh, you don’t have to do that, Y/n,” Winston said.
“Well, someone’s gotta do it,” Peter interjected. “We gotta ride in style, after all.”
“Really, Winston, I don’t mind.” You insisted. “I don’t have anything else to do.”
“Suit yourself.” He said with a shrug.
Patting you on the shoulder, Winston went upstairs to take a shower. While Peter hung up his jumpsuit, you looked around in a storage closet for car washing supplies.
“Y/n?” You looked towards the sound of the voice, seeing Egon peeking out of the basement entrance.
“Yeah, Eegs?”
“You, uh-” He cleared his throat, cheeks going slightly pink, and you wondered why. “You can wear my jumpsuit, if you want. So your clothes don’t get dirty.”
You grinned, straightening up from your slightly bent position. Peter raised a brow at Egon, although you couldn’t see that because you were also looking at the tall man.
“Thanks, Egon!”
He nodded once before going back downstairs, Peter hot on his tail.
“You sweet on her or something, Spengs?” He asked quietly, not wanting to gain your attention.
“Shut up, Venkman.”
***
Music blasted as you washed the soap suds of the Ecto-1. You were pretty sure everyone was out of the building, either getting lunch or just not wanting to be in the firehouse. You had taken Egon up on his offer, his jumpsuit fitting very baggy on you. You had to roll up the sleeves and pantlegs, but you didn’t mind. Especially when seeing the patch with his last name on your chest.
Over the music and your own voice singing along to Whitney Houston, you didn’t hear Egon walking down the stairs. When he reached the bottom step, he watched as you jumped around to the beat.
“I need a man who’ll take the chance, on a love that burns hot enough to last.” You sprayed the last of the soap off the front of the car before turning the hose off. “So when the night falls, my lonely heart calls. Ohh- Oh!” You yelped in surprise as you turned around, seeing Egon, who was still looking at you. His eyes trailed up and down your form, but it was so quick that you didn’t notice. “Hey, Eegs! I thought you’d gone out with the others.” Even after turning down the radio to hear his response, you still danced a bit. Although, your movements were a bit more subdued.
“I was up in the lab, checking on my fungi.”
“Oh! Was the music distracting you?” You asked, already sounding apologetic. “I can keep it down if you-”
“No!” Egon answered quickly, taking the both of you by surprise. He cleared his throat, adjusting his glasses. “No, the music’s fine. I wanted a snack and found that we were out of Twinkies, so I was going to get some.”
You nodded in understanding, moving to put away the car cleaning supplies that you were no longer using. And then you noticed that Egon hadn’t made any move to leave. You looked over your shoulder, seeing that he was standing in the same spot with eyes darting around the room, and turned back around to face him. You tilted your head with a questioning look.
“Would you, ahem, would you like to come with me?” He seemed a bit shy to ask, and it made you smile brightly. “Wouldn’t want to leave you here all alone and all.”
“Sure!” You answered enthusiastically. “Lemme just put all this away.”
Without asking, Egon helped you gather everything and put it in the storage closet. You unrolled the limbs of Egon’s uniform, and he couldn’t help but admire you in his attire, despite how much the fabric consumed you. It was hung back up in his locker with care before you grabbed your purse from your desk and skipped over to him.
“Ready?” You nodded, and the two of you walked out of the firehouse. Without thinking, you looped your arm through his. But before you could pull away and apologize for not asking, he was already pulling you along the sidewalk, the tiniest hint of a smile on his serious face.

Alright, let’s talk about Logan’s PTSD. People throw around the term “bad memories” or “scary flashbacks,” but for him, PTSD is much more than that. His trauma isn’t just something he can brush off or ignore—it’s embedded in him, in every single fiber of his being, and the triggers are painfully specific.
Imagine needles. For most people, needles are a brief discomfort. But for Logan, they’re a brutal reminder of the agonizing, torturous hours he spent during the adamantium bonding process. Think about it: needles didn’t just prick his skin; they drilled into his bones, pumping molten metal to fuse with his skeleton. It’s like he’s reliving those moments every time he sees a needle. It’s not just a shot—it’s the memory of lying on a table, helpless and immobilized, as they drilled deeper and deeper until he became Weapon X. When doctors suggest anything that involves needles—like an IV or drawing blood—he has to fight the urge to lash out because it throws him right back to that table.
And the thing is, it’s not just needles. Medical procedures, in general, set off alarm bells for him. Even something as routine as an EEG, where they place electrodes on his head, is a complete no-go. Why? Because it looks too much like the mind control helmet Stryker and the scientists used on him, the one that allowed them to twist his thoughts and make him an unfeeling weapon. It doesn’t matter that it’s safe; Logan’s mind is hardwired to associate it with the moments when he lost control of his own mind and body, forced to do unspeakable things.
Then there’s the ever-present sense of vigilance. Logan isn’t just “hyper-aware” like most superheroes; he’s hyper-aware to the point of exhaustion. He’s constantly on alert, watching his back, assessing threats in every room he walks into. His senses are razor-sharp, which makes it impossible to ignore any sight, sound, or smell that might bring a painful memory flooding back. Smells, in particular, can set him off. The sterile smell of hospitals, or the faint chemical scent in labs, can bring him back to moments he’d rather forget. And he can’t just shut his senses down, so every little trigger feels amplified, making it a battle just to stay grounded.
And let’s not forget nightmares. Logan’s sleep is a minefield of traumatic memories. We see him wake up in sweats, sometimes even with his claws unsheathed. He’ll wake up clawing, gasping, fighting off shadows of the past that linger long after he’s woken. For him, sleep isn’t rest—it’s another battlefield, where memories become physical sensations he can’t escape. And he’ll never fully let his guard down, even around the people he loves, because he knows that one misstep could mean hurting them, especially when his subconscious doesn’t recognize friend from foe.
Logan’s need to protect his food is something that catches people off guard. But when you’ve spent years in wars, surviving on scraps, and when you’ve gone hungry as a kid running through the wilderness, that survival instinct sticks. Logan has real food insecurity—even if logically, he knows he’s safe now.
Logan will often stash food in his room, even with Wade assuring him there’s plenty in the kitchen. He needs to see that food, to know it’s there just in case. And god help anyone who takes food off his plate; he’ll instinctively react, growling or baring his teeth. It’s not about being rude or greedy; it’s a primal reaction, a reminder of times when he didn’t know when his next meal would come.
So, no, Logan’s PTSD isn’t just “bad memories.” It’s physical, it’s mental, and it affects every part of his life—from how he interacts with doctors and hospitals to how he navigates relationships and even his own body. For Logan, trauma isn’t just something he “deals with” or “works through”—it’s something he lives with, in every moment.

last week, classes for the fall semester officially started! it's absolutely wild to me that i'm a 2nd year PhD student now... 1st year went by hella quick but it was such a fruitful year. i'm hoping my 2nd year is just as amazing and filled with learning.
this semester, i'm taking
clinical neuro
multiple linear regression (data science course)
biostats and bioinformatics
prodev seminar
the biostats class starts in october bc its a half session, online course so in reality, im only taking 2 real classes at a time.
pictured above
setting up an EEG system in our lab for my upcoming study
the loft at this amazing coffee spot in PHX
my typed up data checklist and protocol for my EEG study (i don't want to admit how long those took me to write)
i hope you all have a great start to the semester!

Oooh a mad scientist! What kind of freaky experiment are you doing. All hypnosis? Need a test subject? An obedient pet who helps carry them out? Both? Heheha-🧡
Both could be useful, indeed. Currently been thinking about active brain monitoring techniques. Sadly you can't really miniaturize fMRI gear, but EEG equipment is small and light. Trance states are visible on EEG, so you could theoretically set up a vibrator to provide more pleasure the deeper the subject goes.
Now, would you like to be the test subject, tied down and forced to stare at a spiral while wearing a headset and a vibrator, or would you rather be the obedient assistant who straps the test subject down, inserts the vibrator (and maybe other equipment), and then eagerly waits for praise, overjoyed to be of service?

Hi!! I just wanna say first that I absolutely adore ur writing :) and I've literally never done this before, tbh, so I'm so sry if I've done anything wrong or smth. :)
But I wanted to suggest maybe a reader thats also an engineer and scientist for the Ghostbusters, who Lars always considered less able than him since reader was quite quiet, and would run their expermients in peace, never rly interacting with people. Until one day reader is talking to lucky or phoebe or smth, and goes off on a tangent when talking abt smth they're working on, and it's a very sudden realisation to him that reader is actually rly knowledgeable, that their intelligence is much greater than he anticipated.
Totally fine if u don't wanna write it, remember to take care of urself!! <3
I always take care of myself <3 you did nothing wrong, a totally perfect request. I hope you like it
You were sitting across the room from Lars, absorbed in your work, headphones on as your head nodded in time to the beat of whatever music you were listening to. He hadn’t heard you arrive that morning. Not an unusual situation. He never heard much from you ever.
You seemed to be so unaware of his gaze on you, watching as your hands moved, fingers typing, adjusting your equipment, writing something down in a notebook. That was something he’d noticed. You kept paper notes.
Insane. Absolutely nuts.
Your head tilted up and he realised he’d been caught watching. His nose wrinkled and he looked back to his own work. It wasn’t as if he wasn’t busy. He had enough to get on with.
There was no reason for you to be there. He kept trying to figure out what it was you did, what you contributed to the lab. You kept to yourself and no one else could tell him what it was you did. You preferred to work alone, and while he could empathise with that as someone who didn’t love working in a team, he did enjoy leading a team of researchers. You’d never agreed to joining him.
He had to assume it’s because you knew you weren’t up to the task.
When he next looked up, you were gone. The workstation was empty and there was nothing to indicate where you’d gone. He couldn’t imagine you were rushing off to tell someone of a great discovery.
You’d never had one before now.
It wasn’t that he felt contempt for you. Surely there was a reason you’d been hired. He just thought everyone should be on his level and you just weren’t. The proof was in the output.
Stretching, arms above his head, he figured it was time for another cup of tea, the one he’d made earlier having gotten cold as he lost himself in his work. Taking the mug, he sauntered towards the small kitchen set up in the back corner.
“So if I can just figure out where the spectrometer has gone then I think I’ll be back on track.”
He paused outside the door. That was your voice. At least, he was pretty sure it was. From the few times he’d heard it he thought it probably was.
There was something there in your voice, not something he’d heard from you before. It was close to excitement. Lingering out of sight, he continued to listen. He certainly wasn’t about to offer the information that he had the spectrometer you were looking for. It would be put to better work in his possession.
“You really think you’ll be able to figure it out?” That would be Lucky. He didn’t realise the two of you talked. Lucky was meant to be his intern, not yours. He didn’t know why it rankled him so much.
“Sure. I mean, Nadeem keeps letting me study him to figure out where the source of his magic is so… I can’t see why I wouldn’t,” you said, “oh but you remember when I hooked him up to the EEG machine?”
“Yeah. You got those weird readings, right?” Lucky prompted.
“Right and I spent hours staring at them trying to work it out. And then inspiration struck. So I thought maybe there was some kind of electrical field going on. Which would be crazy because usually we don’t think the two are linked. But fire conducts electricity and so can humans. So what if the magic is connected to ions? Seems simple, right? Only, the electrical charge usually comes from the gas around the flame rather than the flame itself. So does he actually manipulate the gas? Or, is it this pyrotron subatomic particle we haven’t found yet? I mean, in order to prove that one I have to find quarks in isolation and I think that would rock the science community more than proving the science behind pyrokinesis,” you said, almost all in one breath.
It was easily the most he’d ever heard you say before.
“Because in order to prove that I’d need to show that Nadeem is manipulating pyrotrons with psychic powers, probably through the electric signals in his brain, and making them hit isolated quarks, which don’t exist so… I’m back to looking at electricity in flames because clearly it’s to do with the electrical activity in his brain,” you said, with a sigh at the end.
Lars felt his breath catch. There was so much going on in your brain, so many thoughts, so many theories, and you were investigating something he hadn’t even considered looking at. Maybe that’s why you always worked alone. Your projects were on things no one considered researching. You looked at the world differently.
It was… refreshing.
He’d thought you’d ket silent because you knew you couldn’t keep up with the rest of the scientists. Instead, it looked as if you kept silent because your research was so different from everyone else’s. They were so focused on ghosts. You were trying to understand everything in its entirety.
He felt dumbstruck. Everything he thought he knew was wrong. It wasn’t usual for him and he felt on the backfoot. It was like you’d been lying to him but for that to be true you would have had to have talked to him. This was so much worse. This was him lying to himself.
You were so much smarter than he’d thought and it left him questioning so many things.
Walking through the door, he felt combative, like he wanted to start a fight. Your voice died as he did, eyes widening when you saw him. He offered a tight smile, pouring out the cold tea into the sink. He glanced over his shoulder, finding you turning away.
“I’ll see you later,” you mumbled to Lucky.
You slipped out of the room, not even offering him another look. He scrubbed at the mug, not wanting to bother making another cup, taking his frustration out on it.
“Rough day?” Lucky asked, sliding up to him.
“I don’t want to talk about it,” he replied.
“No sweat,” she said, “but maybe don’t glare at people when you enter a room. It sure does clear it.”
He didn’t have a response to that, refusing to be shamed by a teenager. He left the mug on the rack to dry and walked out of the room, lips pursed, trying to work out how to feel about everything. He wasn’t used to feeling stupid and yet that’s where he was. He’d judged you because he never heard you talk. Because you kept to yourself. Because you didn’t feel the need to show off like the others around the lab did.
You were sitting in his sight again, the headphones back in place over your ear, pen tapping your notebook in time with your music. You didn’t even look up when he sat down, staring at you. If he allowed himself to admit it, you were lovely to look at. Even trapped in a world of your own, there was something there that he found pleasing. You were soft, like the worries of the world had never curved your shoulders, and your wide eyed gaze left him feeling like there was no pretence. You had never lied. He’d just been a fool.
He stood, hands already grasping the spectrometer he’d stashed in the storage behind his desk. trying to project confidence, he sauntered over with it. Placing it down in front of you, he waited a moment for you to notice. Your gaze dragged up to him and once again he was struck by how lovely your face was. You were slow to tug he headphones off, leaving them hanging around your neck.
“I heard you were looking for this,” he said.
You looked down at the machine in front of you then back up to him. There was a slight curve to your lips, an almost smile marred with a hint of confusion. Your eyelashes fluttered and you tilted your head down, looking back to the spectrometer.
“Thank you,” you said, voice sweet.
It was a sudden thought that he could probably listen to you talk for hours. Not that he’d ever be offered the chance.
“And uh, if you ever need help or want to talk through anything.” His hand came up, rubbing at the back of his neck. He hadn’t felt this awkward since his university days, “I’m just over there. I don’t know if you know. You seem to keep to yourself. So maybe you don’t want the interruption. But yeah, I’m just over there if you need anything.”
Christ, he was rambling. It wasn’t like you were the first pretty girl he’d ever talked to. He didn’t even have a crush on you. What was wrong with him today?
“I’m sure you’re too busy to help me,” you replied, voice quiet and far more put together than him, “you’re always working on something.”
“Oh,” he said, shoulders deflating. You were being polite but of course you didn’t want his help. Especially when you seemed to be a genius in your own right and more than capable of being brilliant without his input.
“Not that I don’t appreciate the offer. But you’re working on important things and I don’t want to bother you with my stuff. You’re probably working on some new weapon that will save someone’s life or something. My stuff is pretty silly in comparison.” Your head was bowed and he wished he could see the expression in your eyes.
“All science is important,” he said.
“No, I know but you know, my stuff isn’t saving the world like yours so, I don’t want to take time away from that,” you said, voice growing quieter the further along you went.
“I’m always happy to help,” he said, hoping it would be enough.
Your eyes darted up to him and he saw panic there. He took a step back, reeling from the look. He knew he wasn’t always the friendliest guy but this was a not the kind of reaction he ever expected from his words, especially when they were meant to be nice. He took another step back.
“Right, well, I’ll stop bothering you,” he said.
Thrusting his hands in his pockets, he wandered back to his own station, shoulders curved forward, trying to figure out what he’d done wrong. Other than ignore you, he couldn’t think of anything you would know about. It’s not as if his thoughts were broadcast over the tannoy system.
Only he hadn’t really been ignoring you, had he? He’d noticed you enough to form an opinion. He watched you. He’d grown used to your habits. He thought about you. Earlier that day he’d been watching you. There was no way he could pretend like you had been a non-entity in his life.
When he looked up at you again, your head dipped down as if you’re been looking at him just a moment ago. He found a flutter in his stomach, like a butterfly taking flight. The thought of you watching him was pleasing. Unless it was because you were wary of him and felt you had to keep an eye on him.
Finally taking the chance, he went to make himself another cup of tea, if only to try and ease you again. Maybe his presence made you uncomfortable. He didn’t like the thought that he made you uncomfortable.
He decided perhaps to keep his distance for a while.
A few days and he stayed away. He didn’t try to engage you in conversation, allowing himself to watch you when he thought you wouldn’t notice. The more attention he paid, the more he realised exactly how wrong he’d been. You kept to yourself, but you were confident in what you were doing. Something had alighted in him, the flame fanned by your confidence. Someone so capable at science was a turn on. He hadn’t expected that. He should have. But he hadn’t.
And he should have expected to hear you in the kitchen again.
“I just find him really intimidating,” you said, just through the doorway.
“Why?” Lucky laughed.
“He’s so smart and I know you’re going to make fun of me for this, but he’s really handsome. I’ve never been good around smart pretty people,” you said.
He lent closer, wanting to hear more. He didn’t know who you were talking about and the thought someone else in the lab was receiving such compliments made him feel disgruntled.
“Just talk to him,” Lucky said, “he’s not that scary.”
“I can’t,” you whined, “I get all tongue tied around him and he offered to help me and I just… I totally put my foot in it.”
Who else had been offering you help? He would hunt them down and make it clear to stay away from you. Or, no, that would just make you more scared of him. He had to gentle dissuade them from helping you.
“Yeah, trust me, he’s done that plenty of times,” Lucky snorted, “seriously, just talk to him again. Two awkward nerds deserve each other.”
You gave a small chuckle and he could imagine the soft smile on you face, small, underfed, and yet still there.
“I didn’t think he even know I existed,” you eventually said.
“Look, Pinfield is awkward and not always nice. But it sounds like at the very least he’s never outright insulted you. That’s more than Dan over in R&D can say,” Lucky said.
Pinfield. He was Pinfield. You were talking about him.
“Yeah, well, you crush on guys who actually give you the time of day. I crush on the silent guy who’s science is brilliant but who couldn’t be bothered with so much as a hello,” you said.
That wasn’t true, was it? He’d offered you help. And then gone back to not talking to you at all. He’d gone about this all wrong.
“Sorry, I shouldn’t take my frustration out on you,” you said.
“No, you should take it out on him.”
This was met with silence before Lucky’s laughter burst out, loud and long and he could inly imagine the look on your face. Not that he wouldn’t enjoy… He was sure it would be… Well, he was very open to it if the chance arose.
He slipped away to mull over what he’d overheard. He intimidated you. Because you had a crush on him. And you thought he didn’t like you in any way, that he didn’t even notice you.
Yeah, he’d fucked that one up. No one but himself to blame.
He paid attention for when you returned to your work station, across the other side of the room, quiet and focused. And beautiful. How hadn’t he thought that before? Or rather, how hadn’t he noticed it?
He was so caught up in his own assumptions about you he hadn’t taken the time to notice. He cursed his past self for being so caught up in his own ego to notice what was sitting right under his nose.
Steeling himself, he rose and made his way over to you. He loitered across the bench from you. You were still listening to music and hadn’t seemed to notice him. Tapping his finger on your notebook, he tried to get your attention. You looked up, startled, eyes widening when you laid eyes on him.
“I was thinking of going out for lunch and was wondering if you wanted to join me,” he said, trying to sound confident but also approachable. He realised he was treating you like an animal prone to startling.
“Oh, uh, I actually brought lunch today,” you said.
“Maybe tomorrow?” he asked, “I’d love to hear more about your work.”
“Why?” You sounded so bewildered it was almost offensive.
“I don’t know much about what you’ve been working on. Is it so odd I might want to know about it?” he asked.
“You’ve never asked before. Have I done something wrong? Because if I have I’m really sorry and I’ll stop doing whatever it is,” tumbled from your lips and he was reminded that you found him intimidating, “I really am sorry. If you just let me know what it is I can stop doing it.”
“You haven’t done anything wrong,” he was quick to say before you could continue rambling an apology for something that hadn’t happened, “I’m just interested in what you’re working on.”
“Why?” You sounded defensive now.
He sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. He was trying. He was really trying. And you just weren’t getting it. You were making it so difficult.
When he opened his eyes you were frozen, as if waiting to be told off. Taking a deep breath in, he offered you a smile, his best attempt as he tried to when he felt such roiling emotions.
“You’re an asset to our team and you’re working on things I’m not involved in. I’m curious. That’s all,” he said, desperate to put you at ease.
“Oh.” You voice was so quiet.
“If you don’t want my company I understand. I thought it would be nice to get to know one another a bit better. Whatever. I see I was wrong.”
He shoved his hands in his pockets and turned away from you. He must have misheard. Clearly you and Lucky hadn’t been talking about him.
“Wait,” you said. He paused, looking back at you over his shoulder, “lunch would be nice.”
His shoulders relaxed and he let the corner of his lips curl up in a small smile. Your answering one stole his breath.
“Come on then,” he said.
You hopped off your stool and he realised you didn’t even come up to his shoulder. He could wrap you up in his arms and you would be completely engulfed in him. He found that thought tempting.
Walking beside him as you left the lab, you weren’t looking at him, gaze turned towards your feet. His hand closed around your arm, steering you in the right direction. You looked up at him, eyelashes fluttering. His head dipped towards you, not able to stop himself. There was something about you.
He spent the entire lunch watching you, basking in your presence. You were slow to open up, answering his questions about your work softly. But once he got you going, your eyes sparked and the words tumbled from your lips faster than he could have thought possible. Your passion was clear and it only drew him in further.
“I dunno. Maybe’s its stupid,” you said, tucking some hair behind your ear.
“I don’t think it sounds stupid at all,” he said and noticed the way that seemed to turn you bashful. Your chin dipped and you couldn’t look at him. He lent forward again, over the table, trying to catch your eye, “you sound like you know what you’re talking about.”
It was a quick flash of a smile, that same piece of hair falling forward again. You reached up to tuck it back again but his fingers were already there, doing it for you. You looked up, mouth falling open but you didn’t seem to be drawing back from him. His fingertips brushed over your jaw before he retracted his hand, pulling it back to his side of the table.
“Oh,” you said, almost a whisper, practically nothing but the movement of lips without sound.
“I’d like to do this again,” he said, assuming honesty was better than beating around the bush.
The look of surprise that passed over your face wasn’t what he’d been hoping for. But then you softened, that small smile reappearing.
“Really?” you asked.
“Sure. I find myself fascinated by you,” he said.
“Like I’m one of your experiments?”
He hadn’t expected that.
“No. Christ no,” he said, perhaps louder than intended, “fascinated like I like you.”
“Oh.”
“Can you say something other than that,” he demanded, then realised that wasn’t a good idea, “please?”
“Okay,” you said, giving him a shallow nod, “we can do this again.”
“We can?” He brightened, “we can.”
“But only because I like you too,” you said, not looking at him again.
So he had heard right. He felt a sense of satisfaction hearing the words from you. He would never admit it, but it wasn’t often someone liked him. Maybe that’s why he’d been doing so badly with you. Or not so badly since you were going to go out with him again.
He led you back to the lab, hand resting on the small of your back, the material of your jumper soft against his skin. You were half a step closer, leaning into his touch more.
It was a good sign.
Thank god he’s listened in to your conversation with Lucky otherwise he never would have been able to find you. And he thought you might be changing his life for the better. Your smile was already capable of brightening his day.
He was excited to see what was to come with you.

Maven! Small guy KEENLY aware of the crushing weight of responsibility. Director of Mission Control after Odyssey’s ‘retirement’. Doing their best.
-> Following after their mentor, Maven is the current head of Mission Control, a small team tasked with monitoring the status of expeditions, keeping the portal stable, and maintaining the technological systems that assist in these efforts. Maven’s the one calling the shots. In the case of a hazardous situation, Maven has to make an assessment with what information they have access to and decide what to prioritize. They’re inclined to recall the field team when faced with any untested issue, but the current owners/investors of the whole project aren’t too happy when supplies get wasted ‘for nothing’.
-> In practice they usually just go along with whatever Odyssey advises to the absolute best of their ability. And they Will Not complain.
-> They’re kind of usually too worried about have a personality for the entire duration of a mission. They fixate on the job and fret over it 24/7 until everyone makes it back in one piece.
-> When they can relax, Maven’s got some hobbies. They’re into embroidery, playing niche card and board games, and enjoys science fiction and mystery stories.
-> Their cousin, Perseverance, bullies them relentlessly for being a nerd </3. Even though Perse is the one who writes essays on oscillating genes, or the influences that parasites exert throughout an ecosystem, just for fun, so. >:(
-> Maven and Perse didn’t grow up very close in both a physical, spacial sense as well as an emotional one. Their teens is when they started to connect, when their families moved closer again. Maven babysat fairly often and helped her out with schoolwork, leading to Perse taking an interest in Maven’s aspirations and making them her own.
-> She’s a grown woman now and can look after herself, but Maven’s still worried for her now that she’s joined the team officially. They don’t want to get her killed. But then she goes and pulls some shit to make them reconsider all the effort they’re putting into worrying. Like showing Maven a big fuckoff moth she found by releasing it into their room. Again. (..it was a cool moth though)
-> Maven has to babysit Perse’s terrariums once she starts joining expeditions. Maven does not like crawlies.. but they are committed to upholding the highest standard of care for these creatures. They were reaaaaaally anxious about it the first time, but Perse said they did a great job, and they kind of grew to enjoy it? The feeling of being able to do right by these little animals and keep them safe. They don’t mind it, actually.
-> Maven was just stepping into the leadership role on that fateful day they lost contact with the field team. It was supposed to be straightforward, one of the first missions they’d be commanding with little input from Odyssey, up until it all went very wrong. When the storm hit, they scrambled to manage the crisis. In the time it took to restore communication, Maven was certain they’d gotten three people killed. Instead, they just got one person killed. Like it really makes a difference. They are quite certain that Opportunity’s disappearance and presumed death are their fault and they’re not dealing with it very well.
-> They look up to and respect their mentor a lot and honestly it’s just.. easier to let em overstep and take some responsibility away from them. Maven feels Complicated about it. Relieved, sure. Patronized too. They feel crushed that Odyssey doesn’t seem to trust their ability.. but is e really wrong? They’ve already proven to be inadequate. They’re not sure they’ll ever move past this.

Boo-hoo update
I’m sorry to say I have an update I was hoping to not ever have to make. Some of you already know that I have some serious health issues, but I've been pretty quiet about the extent of what I'm dealing with.
The gist of it is that I have a rare bone disease called fibrous dysplasia that turned certain bones in my skull into tumors and then those tumors grew inward and started crushing my brain, so I had a craniotomy last year to remove as much as was safe and got a cool new titanium implant in my head to replace the removed bone/tumor. The unfortunate result was encephalomalacia, which is the end stage of liquifying necrosis, and now part of my brain is liquid instead of solid (it’s dead, in a nutshell). Most people don’t survive encephalomalacia, much less remain able to function, and most who survive the initial stage don’t survive the three year mark. Even when you do survive it, it often continues spreading. The last MRI showed it had already taken over about 1/3 of my brain. But I’m a stubborn asshole and am still hanging on.
Unfortunately, things aren’t getting better.
I have to have constant MRIs, EEGs, physical and cognitive therapies, and have been on more meds than I’d like to be in order to control seizures and various cognitive issues. I didn’t mention this before, but I had to go through a series of speech therapies just to learn to talk properly again. And the most unfortunate part of this is that my ability to write has been affected. Since the surgery over a year ago, I’ve only made 10 new posts in the Positronic Rivalry series, totaling around 87k words. For reference, I posted over 200k words in 2022. I’ve posted even less this year, and it’s not improving.
With that said, I have to take a step back. I’m not quitting and I’m not walking away from the fandom. I’d like to think I’ll still be able to post here and there. I just don’t know when and under what circumstances that will happen. I most certainly can’t handle the longer multi-chapter fics I once could. Maybe one day, but not this day. Since I started posting on AO3 back at the end of 2021, I’ve posted every Sunday more often than not. I’m sorry to say I can’t make that happen right now, and can’t say when I’ll post again or what it will be. I won't be able to continue with season 4.
But I’m most definitely not leaving the fandom and the people and the characters I love so much. I’ll still be here interacting and posting when I’m able. This fandom and the people in it are incredible and mean a lot to me. Data and Lore and Star Trek in general are integral to my life and general enjoyment.
But!! I’ve nearly completed compiling seasons 1-3 of Positronic Rivalry as well as 2022/23 Kinktobers into files that will be ready to print in physical book format (completely free, obviously), which I’ll make available for everyone to download in various print sizes, complete with covers, which you can then have printed at various POD sites if you’re so inclined. Digital versions will also be available (you can already download various formats from AO3, but they’re not compiled into seasons, don’t have covers, etc.).
I’m also continuing with the Trek-themed crossword puzzles because those are fun and my therapist thinks making them is good for my cognitive rehab.
This update is a massive bummer for me, but I felt it was better to just admit my limitations instead of constantly trying to convince myself that I could continue the way I had been pre-surgery and beating myself up when I couldn’t.
Lastly, I’ve finally taken the suggestion I’ve gotten repeatedly and set up a KoFi. If you’d like to buy me a coffee or toss a coin to your android porn witcher, you can do so right here and I’d be giggling and kicking my feet in gratitude.
Anyhow, I want to thank all of you for being amazing and coming along on this ride with me for as long as you have, and for as long as it might continue in whatever form it takes.

heh. . . request!! uhh cal Getz into some sort of accident and has brain damage :( now it's up to you to determine what will happen wit the zero day plans . . .
AHHH MY BABYYY 😔🙏 Your wish is my command! This was super fun to dew !! :3
What if Cal got a severe head injury before Zero Day?
Starting off, I think that Cal would suffer a serious blow to the head from getting in a vehicle collision with his parents. This is one of the most common ways people get a traumatic brain injury. The other driver was at fault for being under the influence of alcohol, and Cal’s parents ended up suing the man to cover his medical bills. The airbag had saved Mrs. Gabriel’s life, and she was only given a broken nose, while Calvin had hit the dashboard— his frontal lobe and temporal lobe sustaining the worst of the hit.
Following, when Andre found out, he was shocked. While Zero Day was at the back of his mind, he was extremely worried about Calvin. He wanted to know what happened in detail, if the guy he held so dearly was getting fixed up, if he was okay or if he’d be fine within a few days. He couldn’t imagine that the Calvin Gabriel he’s known for years… was temporarily incapacitated. He couldn’t stand it as he paced around his room, his worry turning into agitation while waiting for Cal to call him from the hospital, to assure him that he was alright. He never did. Andre almost didn’t want to accept how things were gonna be now. So, he decided to hop in his car and drive to the hospital himself. Andre’s parents wanted to wait a little bit, unsure if Calvin was even ready for visits. But Andre didn’t care. He needed to see him.
In the hospital, Calvin was in bed with some monitors hooked up to him. He had sustained a moderate traumatic brain injury (TBI) and had a large, puffy bandage wrapped around his head. He wasn’t in a coma; he just wasn’t even really awake. He’d been having sporadic seizures, so he had to get an EEG (Electroencephalogram) done, and then soon an MRI scan for his head. Overall, he wasn’t in good shape. When Andre arrived to see him, he’d greeted Cal’s parents, the somber atmosphere enveloping them. Then he went over to Cal’s side, absentmindedly placing a hand on his arm, then his hand. The sight of Cal in this state really made Andre want to break down— and he hadn’t broken down since he was a kid. Yet he didn’t, instead remaining stoic even though he was hurting on the inside. He just wanted Cal to be okay.
A couple days later, Cal’s seizures had ceased— though he still had to stay in the hospital for a few more weeks. Andre decided to visit him again, with his parents coming along with him. Upon arrival, he was relieved that Cal was mostly awake now; he looked down at him over his hospital bed, observing his features, and he tucked a strand of blond hair behind his ear. He wanted to show him some affection so badly, and while he previously didn’t want his parents to get suspicious of their close affinity, he didn’t really care at this point in time. He just didn’t want to hurt Cal. As mentioned prior, he’d experienced a gut feeling that told him Zero Day probably wasn’t going to happen anymore. He was okay with that, even when normally he wouldn’t really be able to dispose of Zero Day. But Cal meant more to him than their plans of violence, and he just wanted to make sure he was going to be alright.
After his stay in the hospital, Calvin was set to stay in bed for another week— except, he’d be at home now. His motor control was noticeably fine for the most part, but since he’d hit an area in his frontal lobe— which controls his executive function, impulse control, attention, and cognitive and motor abilities— he’d still gained a little head and hand twitch. In addition, he developed restless legs, and his ADHD was substantially worsened. He started getting migraines more often and he’s gotten short-term amnesia. He literally cannot remember what he did 10 minutes ago, even though it usually comes to him later in the day.
Also, his impulse management is now poor, and he blurts sentences out without meaning to. With his temporal lobe damage, sometimes it’s hard for him to hear certain tones of voices, so sometimes he has to ask for people to speak up. During the first week he was in the hospital, he suffered from dysphasia, often speaking slowly and incoherently. However, this has since improved. His ability to process given directions and language is around the same as it was from when he was in the hospital, but Andre has been trying to resolve these issues with him.
Andre has been staying over a lot more than he used to and working with Cal’s parents as well as his own to try and teach him what information he may have lost after the brain injury. He knows recovery will be difficult, but he wants Calvin to be like his old self again. It’s tough for Andre, thinking about what he went through and all. Cal remembers the accident, having described to Andre about what he remembered from it, and he has refused to get into Andre’s car ever since that day. Which— Andre has tried to push him to overcome these fears at first, but he realizes it’s easier said than done. So he became more understanding about it.
Also, he hasn’t brought up Zero Day to Cal. He isn’t sure if he even remembers their plans, but he’s pretty positive that he doesn’t— Cal hasn’t brought it up to him since he came home. Besides, even if he is able to recall their plans, he doesn’t want to be selfish. Losing Zero Day is upsetting, but practically losing Cal for a brief period of time was even more upsetting. It’s a big change for both boys, but Andre has recognized how much Cal means to him, Zero Day or no Zero Day. Sometimes he’s thought of what he would’ve done if Cal had gotten killed in the wreck. Andre knows he would’ve ended it or done something rash. After all, he can’t live without Cal.

I'll be honest I just want Egon smut lol. Maybe it could be them doing it in the lab after hours?
After Hours (Egon Spengler X Reader Smut)
Masterlist
Request Something!
Summary: With the uptick in ghost sightings, you and Egon rarely get to spend time together. But when the boys go out to get a late dinner and you find your boyfriend hunched over his desk in the lab, you see the perfect opportunity to make up for lost time.
A/N: porn without plot bc i couldn’t think of a plot sorryyyy
C/W: p in v sex, unprotected sex, blowjob, sex in lab duh
***
Egon shuddered, gripping the edge of his desk with intense force as you sucked him off. To say that your mouth engulfing his stiff cock was more effective in waking him up than coffee was an understatement. When you found Egon in the lab, he was slumped over, almost dead asleep.
But now, he was more alert than ever.
“Fuck…” Egon bucked his hips ever so slightly, reveling in the way your lips wrapped around him while your hand took care of the length you couldn’t fit in your mouth. But when his tip nudged the back of your throat, and your moans sent vibrations up his spine, he knew he was about to lose control. “You’re so, ah, doing so good.”
The compliment encouraged you to speed up your ministrations. Egon was slowly melting from your touch, and you wanted to see how long it would take to turn him into a puddle.
But Egon seemed to have different plans. “If you don’t stop now, I’m gonna come.” He let go of the table and caressed your face, practically covering you with how giant they were. To be fair, though, everything about him was giant. It took everything in him to not push your head further on him, but he managed to pull you away.
You looked like a mess. Lips and chin covered in spit, hair tussled, eyes lustful and tired. Egon may have been a man of science, but in the low light of his workstation, he was sure you were an angel. “That’s kind of the point, Eegs.” Your voice was low and sultry, only turning Egon on more.
Despite your protests, he managed to get you up on your feet before lifting you up to sit on the desk in front of him. Thankfully, Egon had only been taking notes when you found him. If he had been working with ectoplasms or fungi, he never would have let you get as far as putting your hand over his clothed crotch.
“Unfortunately, my refractory period is too long for my liking.” With the hand still on your face, Egon pushed your hair back before gliding his thumb over your swollen bottom lip. “If I had to choose, I’d rather come in your pussy than your mouth.”
You sported a wolfish grin, escaping Egon’s hold to lean back on your elbows. “Then get to it, Doctor Spengler.” He watched as you spread your legs apart, the hem of your nightgown raising up your thighs.
You didn’t have to tell him twice. In a matter of seconds, Egon was fully sheathed inside you, forever grateful that you decided not to wear panties before coming to find him in the lab. The pace he set was erratic and forceful, drawing out every moan and whimper that he could from you.
Egon knew he wouldn’t last long. He was already close to the edge when he first thrust inside you, so he put all his mental power into making sure he didn’t come before you. But luckily, it seemed like you were just as close. Your body writhed and shook with every hard thrust.
Exhaustion seemed to catch up with your boyfriend, who bent over to rest his head on your chest. He scattered kisses around your breasts, smirking when your nipples stiffened at the stimulation.
“Eegs!” You whined, hands reaching out to grab onto the back of his neck. “I’m so close.”
As if those words were a trigger phrase, Egon’s hand slithered down your body to where the two of you met to play with your sensitive clit. Your chest arched into him, and it wasn’t long before you were falling over the edge. Your cunt spasming around Egon’s cock triggered his own orgasm, and he huffed and panted as he fucked you through your highs.
When you both came down, everything felt still and peaceful. You weren’t exactly used to peaceful, so you did your best to savor the moment.
After a few minutes, Egon finally moved. He lifted his head from your chest, and you giggled at his askew and foggy glasses. You straightened them out for him before running your hands through his hair, the tall man almost purring at your touch.
“The boys are gonna be home soon.” You finally say, trying to give Egon the hint that maybe the lab wasn’t the best place to stay in the position you two were in, Egon practically laying on top of you, dick still inside you with his pants and boxers around his ankles.
Egon huffed like a child being told to stop playing with his favorite toy and go to bed. He looked at you for a moment, seemingly deep in thought. He didn’t want this moment to end, not when you rarely had time for each other.
“I’ll lock the door.”

Tomorrow is such a nervewracking day. I have a neurology appointment, and I'll be finding out the results of my EEG/finding out if we caught any epileptic activity on it. I'm freaking out because I've been having convulsive seizures, and I just want to find out the source of them and if they aren't epileptic in nature it honestly feels like it's going to set me back one step in recovery.
